The Mind of a Boat Builder - Lady Dew - Duration: 25:50.

the mind of a boatbuilder Don and Sarah my friends actually came out here and

help me work on seeker here but people think I'm crazy because I'm building a

boat in Tulsa Oklahoma most people know Tulsa is in the middle of the country

but we actually have a waterway that makes it all the way to Tulsa they are

in Pueblo Colorado there's no waterway so it's gonna be one

of their issues and they already know about it but Don and Sarah are father

and daughter and together they are building lady do which is a modified

George Bueller design diesel duct steel with a small diesel engine and going to

travel the world my name is Sarah I in Pueblo Colorado I

am 31 years old stay-at-home mom and I work with dawn on the boat all right my

name is dawn Patterson I'm 51 live in Pueblo Colorado born in Oregon my

profession is designing microwave radio networks for telephone companies here oh

oh my goodness I would definitely same weirdly enough

he's definitely my hero he's been through a lot in his life and he's still

going really really strong and he's able to figure out some amazing things and

he's my my wisdom Albert Einstein he was his teachers told him that he wasn't

willing to amount to much he didn't speak an actual language until the age

of five they thought he was slow then it turns out he just worked inside his head

and he figured out some great stuff just working inside his head

we're building a hybrid so to speak diesel duck 44 by the late great George

Bueller it's 44 foot long the original one came in two versions the original

and then an ebow the Evo was for steel boats so mine is more like the Evo

version but with the transom and pilot house of the original so I kind of did a

hybrid of a bowl to get the boat that I want

it'll be 44 foot long 14 foot beam draft of about five foot I've got a John Deere

4045 diesel motor put into it that has no electronics no turbo on purpose and I

plan on couple laps around the world

in my case I picked steel because I can work with steel if anybody's ever seen

my woodworking they understand why I've never built anything about out of wood

I don't tread water well steel I can work with I understand it I can beat on

with a hammer whatever the case is and I'm much better with steel why they pick

this boat George Mueller the late great designed it as or patterned it off of

what is called a Northwest fishing troller not a trawler patroller is a

longline fishing boat that will put a fishing line with hooks and bait on it

and they will troll around and catch fish the fish are in much better

condition than what comes out of a trawler trawl has large nets the nets

turn the fish into hamburger so they're basically going to be fish

fingers and stuff a troller can bring in very nice-looking fish and

those are the ones they're gonna be on your plate in very nice restaurants they

get a higher price form so they don't need as big as a load in my opinion a

live aboard boat doesn't need to be a trawler does it mean to carry huge

amounts of weight what it needs to be and this is what a Northwest mission

controller is a very efficient very seaworthy and handleable by two people

because typically those boats are mom-and-pop fishing boats to me that

seem to fit more what I'm going to be doing also I like the fact that it looks

like a fishing boat so if if and when I end up in pirate waters I don't look

like million-dollar yacht that they can

attack I look like a fisherman and so it's like the first line of defense for

me is not look like I'm rich

I've got two answers of that the first one is is capital outlay I can build

this boat paycheck to paycheck you know bonus the bonus whatever the case may be

whereas if I bought a boat I'm going to have payments and I don't want payments

also I even sell my house just to get above so the other reason is is when I'm

done I will know every weld every bolt every piece of pipe and every electrical

fitting if I get into trouble out there in the deep although I look boat well

enough that I can solve the problem quickly and efficiently and safely well

I'd have to ask you what how do you define working on it because I've been

planning thinking and everything for 20 years about what I want to do

I bought the prints literally from George 12 years ago and it wasn't until

and I was always playing I was always saying I'm not ready to build it I'm not

ready to build I'm ready not ready to build yet and then I started watching

your videos and went oh no I'm ready to go and I got started last November

mm-hmm and we were pretty much consistently from then on until we hit

this just horrible heap out there that we got now then we had yeah

the boat will be ready when it is done when we get done and we will take our

time we will do it right we are not going to rush ourselves we are going to

solve our problems so it'll be done when it's done the short answer is ten years

Cynthia or 10 years I can say in 10 years for 20 years from now so

background of boat building absolutely none none whatsoever he's taught me to

well he's taught me everything I'm doing as we go so whatever I've learned it's

visits to remember my backyard her background in boat building is I've

built a few single ship models from kits

no idea it's gonna cost what it costs I'll keep

tripping oil till it's done I'm hoping to keep it under 150 but I got an elated

I don't care actually paycheck-to-paycheck I make a decent

living I live alone so I put my money into a boat what led me to doing this

whole thing I I am going to retire one day and I'd love to see how the rest of

the world lives I know how we live I'd like to see how the rest of our lives I

would like to be able to go to a small village sitting the the barbershop and

listen to the gossip and listen to the people and what what their concerns

what's important too and I decided this you know 20 years ago that's what I

wanted to do but I couldn't figure out how to afford it because you fly

somewhere it's a big expense Dave that hotels and everything while you're

sitting there and who can do that you're gonna have to take off from work once a

year to do a three-month trip it wasn't feasible so I racked my brain about it

trying to figure out a way that I could do what I want to do and stumbled across

you know a little more boat which I didn't know they really had and

discovered that with that I can do what I really want to do which is learn the

rest of the world's people see the rest of the sites and if I'm taking my mouse

with me even better

well I started watching YouTube videos and seeing what everybody else was doing

and how popular was for them lots of people which I would have never

thought that many people would be interested in watching somebody else

build a boat but here I was watching other people build all kinds of things

and I thought well I'll start making YouTube videos if anybody's interested

great they can watch if they're not then I have video documentation of different

parts of my build for later reference and then I can use it and YouTube will

store it for me for free so there you go that's what I'll do

so start making videos they start it up pretty horrible I'm still trying to make

them better and better and you know but that's not my skill set so it'll get as

good as I can get it and method ain't Hollywood style sorry

generally the amount of time it is is I I wake up at 4 a.m. whether I like it or

not so from there I start editing videos

until the Sun comes up and I have to go to work or I can go out and work on the

boat now that Sun's up so I'm probably putting a couple hours everyday into

editing videos and then when I'm getting ready to actually post the video I

probably got another four to five hours finishing it up to get it ready to to a

post and that's weekly I've been doing weekly posts up and telling me got this

temperature and I just can't there's nothing to post right now it's actually

difficult for me because I'm a very focused person so when I'm tuck into a

project it's all that's on my mind and I forget about the camera I generally set

it up with tripods try to get it to where it's far enough back that I can

still see it all as I'm bouncing around not really paying that much attention

but the reality is is I forget about the camera I'm trying to be more mindful of

it but as I'm more mindful of where the camera is I feel like my work quality

goes down so it's a bit of a struggle for me I use an annular 4k for the main

camera I have a JVC HD for secondary shots and I use CyberLink

power producer Pro and all of its little gadgets that are given whether it's the

best one or not and no idea this is all beyond me so I just picked one and with

it as Melvin Vil said the watery parts of the world at all my first trip I

actually want to go up the Amazon as far as I can go and then turn around

come back I I have to hit Scotland most of Europe I want to see quite a bit of

Africa and South Pacific one of my bucket list items is I would like to

winter in the Antarctic once but yeah we'll see you're coming with me on yeah

I would love to go see sloth Scotland I want to go see mountains I want to go

see landscapes I want to see everything unless the cultures just anything that's

not here we've seen here yeah you're sucks it's boring here is boring I

couldn't say I don't know I don't know what would be the hardest part none of

it has been really hard I mean there might be a problem that needs to be

solved but none of it's been hard per se it's just learning how to do it I have

to agree I don't see any of it part with the one exception the hard part is

happening to go to job and not be able work on the boat yeah because I'd rather

be home working on the boat and you know there's problems to be solved there's

things to think through I'm trying to think way ahead on okay how if I do this

now how will it affect me the you know what do I need to handle now those those

are all fun things for me to do so going to work and instead sitting in front of

a computer coconut stuff and not making work on the

boat is actually my hardest part

oh goodness it kind of depends on who's here who's around if we have cousin my

cousins and nephews nieces that would stop by and help us grind a little bit

or weld a little bit we'll teachings will majority of it is Eni data which we

do get help it's a lot of thinkI easy stuff I'm mostly unskilled which not

that we can say much because we're unskilled to hand them a welder I'll let

him weld and I'll let them do little stuff but I can't count on their welds

on some of the more significant things so it's lifting its grinding its plasma

cutting water gofer one of my friends she was she's considered the site

manager so she watches up for safety and then and it's actually very much

appreciated she stands over us and yells at us when we do stupid stuff and that's

actually more help than a person realizes because like I said I get

focused and you know I broke a finger for a reason

buddy listen here I don't know volunteers are fine

you know like anybody else think I need to pre-plan that and I need to know what

they can do whatever it is they can do I will find something that fits yeah I do

not have a lot of tools I I came into this building you know I'm gonna build a

boat so I have one really good welder the other ones mostly for you know to

tack things together until it can be welded properly so I don't have a lot of

tools so I'm collecting them as people come around but right now it's mostly

what I've collected these grinders yeah because there's just so much grainy to

be done on a metal

slowing down I am such a go go go rush rush rush person and especially well

then you've got to slow down and I skip over things like cut corners I'm not

paying attention I get yelled at quite often you need to slow down

I wouldn't say yelled no hey but still step so yo that you know the hardest or

the biggest challenge for me has been not thinking of the whole project in a

whole I have to look at what is done today because every time I start looking

at the whole project it becomes fairly overwhelming and you know like the old

proverb says how to eat an elephant one bite at a time and so I got to take it

at today's bite but I still have to think a hit on some of the parts so how

is this going to affect me later so it's finding them balance of how how much to

think of all at once and how much not to this way don't get over well getting it

in the water the greatest challenge is gonna be getting it in the water

what Stefan point we already possibly have stuff to play let's just even get

it down to the water right so right now that's that seems to me to be the

biggest challenge it's how we're going to get this beast in actually in the

water once it's good yeah yeah so we're in public Colorado there isn't a decent

waterway within 500 miles of us I'm still getting the knowit jokes because

so I'm gonna be trying to move a 44 foot long 14 foot wide 50,000 pound on both

down the highway to Tulsa Oklahoma where there's an inland waterway to go the

rest way to the Gulf of Mexico we've driven that trip and there's bridges in

the way from the bottom of boat to the top of the pilothouse is it

foot six not counting the trailer so we're going to have to find some way of

getting that boat to Tulsa and it may be that I've got to cut off the ball the

the pilothouse and figure out a way of bolting it back on or welding it on once

I get there or we found trying to wrap I can't go west because we've got the

Rocky Mountains right here there's no way out when it pull this boat over

monarch pass there is Galveston but Galveston's

further away than Tulsa and they think well the shortest route I'm still gonna

have a little bit of a pass to go over so Tulsa is it Tulsa vibs

and we they're gonna find the route that doesn't have bridges in our way or that

we can bypass the bridges or I gotta cut off the pilothouse that's always down

the road so it's not bothering me so much right now but I know it's going to

be a problem what short term what's I think is going

to be a big challenge as I've got a wrap four inch schedule 40 pipe around the

shear line in this hall and I've got some ideas on how to pull it off but

until we get out there with ropes and chains such it's it's it's intimidating

me a little bit but there's been so many pieces that have intimidated me in one

way or the other then we get to them and we work through the problem and it turns

out again so bad so I'm hoping this way the shear pipes will be we'll see oh I'm

going I don't know I don't have a special lady or whatever you're going

with me right now I'm in the market yeah but right now it's just me and I'm okay

if it's just me because that means the occasional when friends and family want

to go for a little John's I can take them with me but right now it's just

mean weather changes or not who knows

if you start over you fix the mistakes and the mistakes are what makes it

unique that shows that you've tried that you've gone through it that you've

worked through it there was a problem you solved it no way would I change that

it's a learning experience differently I wouldn't do anything different either

it's the same thing it's a learning experience I like showing look what we

did oh yeah might look like crap but look

what we did knowing what I know now I would do it again if that's what you

mean I would definitely do it again it's is it work you bet has it been a

learning experience you bet what would I do differently I would

start sooner much much sooner I have people say you know I'm thinking about

it and and I'll get Iams or emails and all I'm thinking about doing the same

thing quit thinking about it start that's the biggest thing is get started

I kicked myself every day for not starting years ago now that I know what

I know it was all intimidating I kept being scared and once I got over and

just jumped in I can't believe I waited as long as it

go go do it go watch your videos get YouTube certified read your books just

go and do it do what you want to do it's okay I would agree if you want to do

what we're doing the first thing you have to do is is admit to yourself that

you can admit to yourself that if you run into a problem you can google it you

can YouTube it you can you can solve the problem you can ask questions there's a

bunch of people out there doing whatever it is you want to do and they're all

very supportive you ask what's making it you know look down on you they're gonna

go oh yeah hey yeah I've been through that do this but until you start you

even know what you're up against so get started don't be intimidated

don't think you're gonna get finished tomorrow or next week or even next year

it's gonna be a long term process and it's so worth it if if I die before the

boats done this has been so worth it I mean our phrases is happiness is a

journey not a destination and I'm quite happy with this journey okay so I wake

up at 4 o'clock in the morning whether I like it or not

I usually edited edit videos if it's a weekday I edit videos or do research or

work on cat work so that when the weekend comes I'm ready for it

and I have in my mind clear what I need to get done after work I don't work

that's that's my time when the weekends come again I wake up at 4 a.m.

I'm usually printing out the prints or going over it in detail what needs to be

done for that day until the Sun comes up generally the only reason I wait until

the Sun because running grinders and such at

four o'clock in the morning with my neighbors isn't gonna go over well so

it's more of a wait until I see them up do you know you know a hair grinder yeah

then I work on the boat I probably overwork people because like

I said I get focused so I will probably be out on the boat by 6:00 or 7:00 in

the morning and I go and tell I'm just about exhausted because I'm obsessed

with this mode it's that much fun to me then I come in

shower collapse he started in the next more boy I eat occasionally if she makes

me then I start again the next morning now does it require that kind of sense

of compulsive work nope nope that's just my personality and

it's really I mean I don't find it so Saturday by Saturday morning then waking

her up with grinding noises and banging noises maybe some customers what's your

weekend bye we get over up to the sounds of grinders and screaming children kids

feed the fed dressed rate goes their date old husband here's your chive

children and I run out the door to go help him with the boat now you generally

spend all day out there with him once in a while yes I got my little chitlins

running out there told me go by get away we don't want you there buddy they do

dad back in the house of him maybe he's some dinner collapse during the week

it's just all kids that's all I do if he's not working on the boat I'm not

kids I hope you enjoyed that it gives you a good idea of what building a boat

is all about it's about commitment to task and Donna and Sarah certainly have

I've never been called a "Nazi Jew" before but it's an interesting expression.

Well it would be strange because my dad barely escaped alive from a burning synagogue in 1938.

And I tell people: You're talking to a Jewish German person

whose father lost more than 50 people in Nazi death camps.

You should be a little more intelligent not to talk such nonsense.

We met last year at the Munich beer hall

and your event seemed to attract many Jews to become Nazis!

What do you think about that? Are you happy that Jews are now Nazis?

Well, you see, I'm a refugee from Cczechaslovakia

And since I joined the AfD, I am a Nazi, you know.

And now we are experiencing that also Jews who are joining the AfD, they are all Nazis.

So, we are all Nazis.

It's amazing! The Nazis underwent a makeover. A huge makeover.

Good job!

Good job. Yeah, you see. The best Nazis will be those guys here with the kippah now.

Terrible. How could this have happened to me?

Quite simple: The AfD is the most pro-Israel and pro-Jewish party of Germany!

That's how it happened.

(It's a camouflage kippah!)

Very interesting, Elena.

It seems the Nazis went through a process, they brought Jews on board to improve their image.

I even spoke to a few gays.

Gays?

Yes!

Gays is already ok, but did you see the black one?

There was a black one?

Really black.

No way?

Totally black.

No way!

Way.

Wow. We must find him.

This is unbelievable! You're a black Nazi!

In the AfD.

Exactly. That was very simple.

When I was twelve years old, I read Mein Kampf for the first time...

No, nonsense. Of course not.

As you can see we are not Nazis.

We have many people in the party who come from different religions.

Also from different ethnic backgrounds.

How do you feel about there are also being Jews in the Nazi party?

Oh yeah. So one of my best friends in the party is a Jew, a Russian Jew.

You have a Jewish best friend? Wow. You're antisemitic!

Yeah, so I'm antisemitic because I have a Jewish best friend.

It's so funny. No matter what we say or do we're always "Nazis."

Or always "racists."

A newspaper actually wrote about me, that I'm a "neo-Nazi."

Let me explain, for the people who don't quite understand how the press in Germany deals with people.

Once you're in the party, you're either a Nazi or a racist.

No matter if you're black or Jewish.

Black racists are actually very rare.

So racism against foreigners by blacks is actually quite rare.

Antisemitism by Jews is also very rarely seen.

But the press doesn't care. Because hey...It's 2018. We don't give a shit about facts.

[VIETSUB] EP 6 - Big Picture (빅픽처) IN VIET NAM - KIM JONG KOOK VÀ HA HA - Duration: 5:16.

[Big picture in Vietnam]

[EP06 Variety show war among non-celeb] Park Kwang, ready ?

[Lawyer vs interior designer] You did this all?

[All alone][The latest resort interior style] - This is the going trend now. - Right?

[Never] We cannot do this.

[ Prepared in color to tell you to know yourself]

- Not even a dream. - Not even.

- Start it all over. - Good.

[Huh] Why?

[Even if it is a resort that you can dream of]

[I am going to live in the dream]

[My style] This is amazing.

[Amazing] This is a picture!

- Picturesque. - So pretty.

Open the door and the pool right there!

Right on.

Leaning in the pool.

[You are in the pool and your eyes are on the ocean] - Looking over the ocean. - Right.

Wow great shots there!

[Perfect photo shots] - Take it this way and horizontal to the ocean. - Right.

[Gotta do this]

[Want to have] [Adrenalin running through] So cool here.

[Adrenalin running through] - Not even wishing for this. - Pretty.

[Firm] - This is not working. No. - No.

[Not even] - Never. - Why?

- Why not? - We can do this.

[No, Never!] - No! - Why no!

- No! - Not even this?

[Not even this?] - Then why do we even bother?

One full villa...and we cannot even do this?

[ Depending on how much investment we get] Depending on the seed money.

[Ha....really want to have the pool]

[Just get it] Hey. How much does it cost to build a full villa?

[Construction and operation] Per position,

[The key is the labor] Labor cost is the largest portion.

[Right] In Vietnam and Bali,

[Labor is cheaper in South East Asia] The labor cost is really cheap,

In Korea,

80~85 % occupancy rate...

Then we can make the profit.

[In South East Asia] In Bali,

With 40%,

You make profit.

[Wow] The labor is so cheap,

And one more,

Building it with wood in Vietnam,

[Pros in Vietnam] The duration of building,

[The weather is pretty consistent there] You can get it done quicker.

[Better in terms of material cost and the duration] [Good] Let's go to Vietnam.

[Vietnam investment] What do you think, lawyer?

[Nope] I....

[ Not a good option] Well.. I am not the expert in this.

[ Not allowed by the firm?] Not allowed to do this by the firm?

[Well] - No. - Why?

Why not? Investment?

Not even the stock investment.

[Really?]

There are many information internally.

- Really? - Blocked the investment.

[Can't trust] Not even buying a house? Building?

[ changing words] [Building is ok] Building is allowed.

- Okay. Buying a building in Vietnam. - Buying a building is okay.

Under my name?

[How did you get the comment?] Really?

[Thinking about it...and yes] Right.

[Thinking about it...and yes] Right.

[(Want to get the ownership) Resign?] What...

What is my name?

[Joint ownership] Fighting over it with the 3 joint ownership,

[A word as a lawyer] Better use my name alone.

[AH......I should have got that] I thought about that.

[Park lawyer is stealing the show]

Right this one doesn't really have the back supporter.

[In times of damage] There could be a huge damage.

Joint liability or solo liability?

Better not to put your name under.

Specially in other country.

You could take the risks.

[Good comment] [ Park lawyer..full of gag vibe]

[ Gag bot..trumping the celeb] If you put your name and signature,

Confident..

[Why didn't I do that?] Confident in those issue, right.

[Calculating]

[Great of you] Great!

[Kwang....you do something]

[Right!]

[Hey][ Look at Kwang!] His life itself is a comedy.

[Life is a comedy] - Life itself is the show. - Kwang and Hodong were drinking...

[Just to expand the show] Kwang said " Cool watch"

[Hodong, Parkkwang, Haha drinking story] Can I try this on?

[Kwang gave the watch] Put it on.

[Even more sexy when it is on] It looked so cool.

[Went home with the watch] And then I forgot about it and went home with it.

He kept calling me and I thought it was fun.

Ikept it for a week.

One day someone was knocking the door.

[KnockKnockKnock] [Give my watch back]

[Haha Please] - Haha... Donghoon. - Richard Mill?Richard Mill?

[Haha being a goofball] I didn't open the door and he texted me.

[What?]

[My treasure no.1]

[Bring it back to me asap] Get it back to me..and I said.

[I put something in the case and gave it to him] In the package,

I put a watch and gave it to him.

[Something else?] - Different one? - Ye...

He took it.

[Why did I do that?] - One hour later... - Did you see it?

[So regretting]

[1 hour after receiving the watch] All of sudden.

[Ya .....$%$#%59348234] Swearing words...

[What did you put?]

Open the door.

[ Beautifully packaged cooling patch!] Cooling patch!

[Laughing]

Talked to Hodong.

[Help me][SOS to Hodong] Hodong finally,

"Haha, Kwang really needs it"

"Stop pulling his legs and give it back to him"

"Cute Kwang"

[Just thinking about it....losing weight] He was really worried.

He is such a good bro.

- Tell them that story. - When Kwang was hit?

[Stop it] [I am not even here]

[Right! Kwang loves his wife so much!]

Hodong.

[Excited] Kwang called me,

- Donghoon. - Yes.

I got hit.

Igot hit.

You were hit?

[Hahahaha] Look.

[I am thirsty] Okay...come out.

[MYSTIP head who has been listening] Anh Jongoh...who has been listening to it,

Stupid....

[He thought of us so stupid] That's why people hit you.

A month later, he called again.

Get together.

[Park Kwang &Anh. No love]
