Hello everyone. I am back again!
Why are you wandering right and left?
I'm waiting for a package to arrive.
I was supposed to receive a collection of Mega Man games
and the audience has been asking me for long to review it.
Now you mention it. The 20 fish-guy is late.
Oh please! This 20 fish-guy?
Look at him first! He is like a rice sack.
The package has arrived you Doraemon face! Did you think I didn't hear you
and the narrator who get his words from Google Translate?
Watch your mouth you 20 fish-guy!
Hand over the package and the get out of my face!
Calm down. Any way, let's see the package.
Easy easy. Oh wow!
I waited for long.
You brought the Japanese versions?!
Didn't I tell you to bring the US versions?
Dude. The US versions are expensive and rare.
Manage yourself with the Japanese games. Or, I tell you what.
Here!
A collection! in one cartridge!
This is good and it will save space.
Other packages will arrive today. See you later.
OK it will be a long time and long marathon.
I suggest you bring pop corn
and sit on a long sofa and relax.
We will hopefully have fun.
Medusa?
Even in this timeline there is Medusa?
What do I do?
What's wrong with this stupid shotgun??
Wait wait
By the way, my name with this suit will be Nostalgic Man.
Any way, let's get started now.
Argh OK.
Mega Man,
This ancient character in the video gaming industry
and was also an iconic character for Capcom.
This unique series which caused hype
and unprecedented success
for the special style it presented in the video games world.
This character was designed by the famous Kenji Inafone
and the first appearance for the character was in 1987
on NES or Famicom as known in Japan.
It's worth mentioning is that the character's Japanese name is Rockman
and the idea behind it was to include music references
such as Rock, Roll and Bass as main names for the characters.
However, Capcom realized that the name, Rockman was not suitable in the USA
which made it change to Mega Man.
The series's story in general revolves around Mega Man,
The kid robot who fights evil
with his own arm canon which is know as Mega Buster.
This robot was designed by Dr. Thomas Light and Light
treated him like his son and Mega Man's name at that time was Rock.
Rock was a normal boy serving humanity with loyalty,
but under some unknown circumstances, he started to fight evil
and his name changed to Mega Man or Rockman in Japan.
Also, Roll and Proto Man characters are considered Mega Man's sister and brother.
Porto Man is the oldest and Mega Man is the youngest
although all of them are originally robots
and most of you don't know this shocking information.
Any way, Mega Man's goal is to fight Dr. Wily and stop his plans
for world domination
just exactly like what Sonic does against Egg Man.
It is known that Dr. Wily was a close friend of Dr. Thomas Light.
Worth to know that the names Thomas Light and Albert Wily are inspired by the scientists
Thomas Edison, the inventor of the electrical lamp
and Albert Einstein, the famous physicist.
Albert Wily used to assist Thomas Light in creating robots and technologies
that helped mankind,
but he turned against him because of jealousy
and he turned against the world and decided to dominate it.
Too bad that he adjusted the robots
that were supposed to serve humanity
and made them against humanity.
However, Mega Man stops in his way as always with the help of Dr. Light.
Dr. Light also created Mega Man X,
but this is out of our topic.
What we want to say is that the series's story is very deep and very exciting
in case you want to explore it in details.
Unfortunately, most gamers don't pay attention to it except the fans.
Any way, in this episode
we will review the series completely
and Nostalgic Show will do a marathon for the series.
We will certainly review the main series in its numerical order only without mentioning the sub games
and we will give you our opinion on this wonderful series.
I wish things go as peacefully as possible,
because I expect I will interfere in the reviews
just like what happened in the Double Dragon episode.
Let me stay quiet.
Mega Man.
The first appearance for Mega Man was in this game
and this game was released in 1987 exclusively for NES.
As the years pass, the game was re-released on many consoles along with the following games.
In general, the game's genre is shooting while jumping on platforms or in other word shooter platform.
We were used to shooters like Contra,
but this game presented it in a special and unique style.
It didn't only focus on shooting or jumping on platforms.
One of the original ideas that this game introduced and amazed gamers
with it was choosing a boss among these
giving the player the freedom where he would want to start from.
It was not linear like other known games.
I thought in the beginning that I would choose a character from the displayed bosses to play with
until I realised that I was choosing a boss.
As for the gameplay, it is very simple.
A button for jumping and a button for firing via the arm canon which is known as Mega Buster.
The graphics are good and the movement and the animation are smooth,
but there aren't a lot of backgrounds in the stages.
The soundtracks are excellent and iconic.
The environments are in an advanced technological world.
An epic robotic environment
except some stages that have some natural environments.
The enemies are mere robots.
There are items you collect such as health replenishers, score increasers
and ammo to replenish energy which we will talk about later.
Of course, you will face a boss at the end of the stage and you have to beat the first boss with a strategy
and what's innovative about it is that once you have defeated a particular boss, you will acquire his special ability
which you can use against enemies as sub-weapons
as if you are controlling a boss in indirect way.
Not just this, some bosses have weakness spots against a particular weapon which you get.
It's up to you whether you want to play with a strategy or by discovering the weakness spots.
After you defeat all the bosses, you will enter the last stage
and it consists of 4 parts. Before you enter the stage,
you need to pick up an important item which is in the previous stages
which is the canon which creates platforms.
Everything will be fine for you once you get it.
In the last stage, you will again face the same bosses that you have defeated before and some new bosses
at the end of each final stage's part.
The annoying thing is that first boss of part 1 who is Yellow Devil
is extremely difficult and he is the most difficult boss in the series.
The annoying thing is that he splits into many pieces
and you have few seconds to hit his eye.
Hold it! It seems I have to interfere in your review as usual.
There is a glitch that can help you beat him.
Choose the lightning weapon and once you shoot his eye,
wait until the lightning touches his eye.
At this moment, press start rapidly
and he will hit in every press and you will easily beat him.
OK. This is a very beneficial glitch.
Anyway, there is a boss which I really liked in one of the last stages
It's your clone.
The idea of fighting a clone character is something new and special at that time.
Any way, once you reach the last part of the final stage,
you will face Dr. Wily at the end. Fight him with the fire weapon or any weapon which you like
and you will beat his easily and clear the game.
If we talk about the game's cons, the biggest disadvantage is in the disappearing platforms.
They are very annoying and need focus. They may not seem that difficult,
but are very annoying sometimes. Also, the moving platforms
which require perfect timing to jump.
Finally, the exaggeration in spikes placement which kill you instantly once you fall on them.
In general the first Mega Man original is still an excellent game.
Mega Man 2 or Rockman 2.
The second game was released in 1989
after the huge success of the first game.
Just to be clear that will not mention that same basic elements in order not to take long,
but we will explain the differences and the improvements between each game.
Any way, the second game is considered the most favourite for most gamers
and it is really an excellent game.
It uses the same elements of the first game with changes in the bosses, the stages and music.
As for the additions and the new improvements on the gameplay,
the level design is better than before
and secondly they added the energy tanks which can be found in the stages
which completely refill your health and they are very useful.
Thirdly, they added 3 tools for assistance which help you throughout the stages.
Fourthly, the game has become more generous
meaning that rations will fall from enemies at higher rates.
Finally, a password system was introduced to continue playing after switching the game off.
As for the flaws, they are the same as in the first game. Another flaw is the boss prior to the last one.
He is formed of laser canons that shoot through walls.
The only way to destroy them is weapon C to blast the walls protecting them
and his the canon with the same weapon.
You only have seven shots which you must not waste.
If you make a single mistake, everything is gone and if you die, you will return
with the amount of ammo which makes it hard to refill ammo.
Therefore, you have to pay attention.
Another problem is the technical errors in the graphics because of too many things appearing at the same time. Any way,
this boss is not difficult. He is not like Yellow Devil from the first game.
After you beat this boss, you won't face much of problems in the game. You will face Dr. Wily
and when you beat him, he will beg you just like the first game.
Any way, Mega Man 2 is another good game and definitely better than the first.
Mega Man 3 or Rockman 3.
The third game was released in 1990 after the huge success of the second game.
It seems they didn't want to give gamers a break from the series. Or usually gamers were eager for a new game in the series.
Any way, I have nice memories with the third game. In my opinion,
it is better than the second, but it has some flaws and we will talk about them later.
As usual, the third game has the same elements of the previous games
with differences in the music, stages and bosses,
but the biggest addition here is the slide move which makes you enter tight places
and run away from big bosses and it increases your speed which is a good addition.
Moreover, this you can carry eight energy tanks instead of four.
Finally, Rush is added as an assistant in place of the tools from the second game.
He is more useful than them. The sub weapons here are better than the second game in my personal opinion,
but let us talk about the flaws. First of all, there is a mini boss in every stage
who is Proto Man and this is the first game for him to appear in.
He only jumps, shoots and moves in every direction. He is a cheap boss.
Any way, another flaw is that after you beat the main bosses, you will face robots called Doc Robots.
You will play the same stages, but at higher difficulties with more traps.
Once you reach the Doc Robots, you will notice they have the abilities of old bosses from the second game.
With little patience, you can beat them after long suffering, because if you die,
you will start from the beginning of the stage and this is an exaggeration.
In general, these are the game's flaws, then you enter the final stages. You will notice the return of an old boss in one of them,
The Yellow Devil...
Don't tell me that you can not beat him!
Don't worry! I've played this game and I know the strategy. Don't worry! Everything is fine.
OK then.
This time you can beat him thanks to the energy tanks.
Then you can go all the way until the end of the game. It is just a matter of time
until you discover the strategy for Dr. Wily. You will beat him and finish the game.
Mega Man 4 or Rockman 4.
The forth game was released in 1992. This time it was delayed for two years in the US.
Unlike the Japanese version that was released a year before.
Any way, it is true that the forth game wasn't as successful as the previous games, its sales figures were good.
There was no reason to discontinue the series.
The first thing you notice in the game is the introduction of cinematic scenes which is nicely presented.
The presentation highly improved this time. Aside from this, also the graphics were improved too
and there were many details in the backgrounds. Also, they introduced a total new thing in the series
which is Dr. Cossack.
The new feature in the gameplay is the ability to charge shot in the Mega Buster. This is a great feature
and you can kill enemies that lineup easily instead of shooting rapid shots.
There are stronger enemies, of course and they don't die from a single charged shot. Aside from this,
the assistant tools are back in addition to Rush. If we talk about the flaws,
the sub weapons are not as impressive as the sub weapons in the previous games. I don't see any other flaw from this.
You will face Dr. Cossack in the final stages and later it will be clear that he was forced
to carry out evil acts because of Dr. Wily who kidnapped his daughter and forced his fight Mega Man.
After Proto Man's rescue of the Dr. Cossack's daughter, Dr. Wily's plans were ruined.
Anyway, you will later face Dr. Wily and it is a matter of time until you discover his strategy, beat him and clear the game.
The forth game is good in general, but you don't feel it introduced a lot of things except the charged shot.
Mega Man 5 or Rockman 5.
This game was released in 1993. It is very natural when a famous games become successful,
they make a new sequel for it. For you information, this game was my favourite as a memory,
because I skipped some games when I was a child. Any way, the presentation this time is not as great as the previous game
and the only improvement is in the gameplay. As for the story,
Dr. Light is kidnapped by Proto Man. Hmmmm!
I think I know what's happening and I knew it when I was a child.
Any way, the gameplay wasn't improved that much. Even the level design was not as great as the previous games.
The Mega Buster is stronger this time and you won't feel you need to use the sub weapons much.
The additions are in the rare health and energy tank which refills them.
Also, there is an assistant bird-like robot called Beat
which is very helpful against bosses. To have him, you will need to collect all Mega Man letters from the stages.
You control a jet ski in the some areas, but very less. Aside from these, this game didn't introduce much.
When you reach the final stages and face Proto Man, you will discover he is fake.
The real one appears and reveals who the fake is. I expected this from long time ago, because we knew Proto Man was a good guy.
Any way, you will play the other final stages against Dr. Wily. With time, you will reach him,
learn his strategy and beat him.
I know what this scene reminds you of.
Any way, I feel the fifth game in general to be simplified for normal gamers.
It is not even difficult, but this doesn't mean it's a bad game. It is a good game
targets towards those who don't want to experience complications and hardships.
Mega Man 6 or Rockman 6.
The last game in the series to be released for NES in 1994
and the Japanese version was released a year before it and it is considered among the last games on NES.
Strange enough that Mega Man X on Super Nintendo was released one year before it.
Why couldn't they release this game on Super Nintendo. Could be because they didn't want gamers to confuse between the 2 series. Who knows?
As for the story, this time a new evil is introduced who is Mr. X
and I have a strong feeling that he is not a new evil.
What's unique is that the bosses you encounter represent a particular country
not just an element from the environment like what the series is used to.
It seems they have used every element on earth. Any way, the sixth game
has the same elements of the fifth game, but the nice additions here are that Mega Man can fuse with Rush
and wear a special suit. There are 2 suits: Power Mega Man
and Jet Mega Man.
Power Mega Man uses fists to shoot the enemies and break some walls,
but his advantage is that he doesn't let you slide yet he remains very useful.
As for Jet Mega Man, he can fly temporarily and reasonably and he is not so bad.
The sixth game honestly feels like the fifth in terms of simplicity and not being so hard.
It is slightly better than the fifth. Any way, after you beat the main bosses, you will enter the final stages as usual
and gradually reach Mr. X. Then he will reveal his true identity.
As expected since it is obvious from the intro.
Any normal person will know that he is Dr. Wily in disguise.
I'm sorry Wily, but next time wear a proper disguise.
Any way, the final stages in general are not that difficult
and you will learn the strategy of each boss along with the final boss.
After you beat him, Mega Man finally thinks about it and arrests Dr. Wily, because he always lets him go in the previous games.
This is everything for the Mega Man original series on NES
and I don't know what to say honestly.
Mega Man is a stupid character. Why? Because he doesn't learn from his mistakes.
He always forgives Dr. Wily and lets him escape.
Really, really stupid!
I can come up with a story for Mega Man,
but I will call it Mega Man Watermelon.
I can say there is Dr. A who plans to dominate the world
and the bosses are inspired from food this time.
Let's say there is Machboos Man,
Biryani Man,
Meat Gravy Man,
Shawarma Man,
Sushi Man
and Falafel Man.
When you reach the final stage, it is revealed that Dr. A
is just a robot created by Dr. Wily and you face him in the end.
I really don't know what to say.
Stop this overly stupid analysis you idiot reviewer!
Who cared about stories back then???
As long as the gameplay system was excellent, that was all what mattered.
Do it! Go and review the remaining games!
OK! OK! I was just kidding.
Mega Man 7 or Rockman 7.
The first Mega Man game from the original series on a 16-bit console and at the same time the last game
in the US at least.
Mega Man & Bass was released in Japan only.
Any way, The seventh game was released in 1995
and good thing it took a break from the 8-bit and we would see something more advanced this time.
As for the story, they display a flashback from the sixth game and how Mega Man arrests Dr. Wily finally,
but he somehow manages to escape the prison.
You start the game in an introductory stage and there is more dialogue this time.
There is a candid moment in the intro where Mega Man wears a labor helmet by mistake,
then he wears his helmet. It seems they wanted the game to have a little comedy.
This game marks the first appearance for Roll and Auto
and the first appearance for Bass as well. After you finish the introductory stage, you will be able to select bosses.
Four only?
So kind!
Any way, the gameplay is similar to the previous games and very excellent as usual.
You can slide, charge your shot, obtain sub weapons from the bosses and use Rush for assistance.
Let's talk about the additions in this game and what makes it special from the previous games.
There is a new element you find in the stages which is the screw which is a purchase currency.
In the boss or stage select screen, if you press select you will enter the shop to buy items.
The problem is that they don't inform you that there is a shop in the game and this is one of the flaws.
Any way, another advantage is that Rush can dig
and the third advantage is the hidden letters which you need to collect. They form the word "RUSH".
If you collect all of them, you will get the Power Mega Man suit from the sixth game.
The good thing is that Power Mega Man and Jet Mega Man are fused
and you don't need to alternate them like in the fifth game. After you beat the 4 bosses,
you will enter the final stage you will have to beat eeeehh...
There are four more bosses?!
Hmmm OK! Now I understand.
The concept was that they didn't want you to suffer when you beat one boss with your skills
and then try the sub weapon on each one until you discover his weakness point.
They made a shortcut for you. The series always has eight main bosses.
After you discover their weakness points and beat them, you will reach the final stages.
It is a matter of time until you reach Dr. Wily. You will fight him in two forms.
The second form is difficult in comparison to the previous games,
but you have the energy tanks in the end. As times goes by, you will be able to beat him.
As usual,
either Mega Man will let him escape
or will arrest him and he will run away from prison.
As usual! Let's see.
hehehehehe. It seems he heard your silly comment.
Mega Man! Calm down a little!
I'm telling you to calm down. Calm down!
OK.
You stupid!
Thanks God nothing happened. Mega Man 7 is an excellent game and mostly focuses on exploration.
Until now this is the best game I've played although it's not difficult.
Mega Man 8 or Rockman 8.
The first game on consoles that used CDs
and at the same time the last. I don't know why Mega Man was so misfortunate. He got one game on each generation.
Until now at least. The game now uses cutscenes in anime style and is well presented.
Unfortunately, the English voice acting was disastrous and made me skip the story entirely.
You start in an introductory stage just like the seventh game. The graphics are excellent
in comparison to the seventh. The environments look amazing and very colorful along with the backgrounds.
The same goes for the animation and the movements. Once you clear the introductory stage, you can select the bosses.
Let's mention what additions they included in this game. First of all, Mega Man can swim in the water.
Secondly, if you equip the sub weapon, you can use the Mega Buster at the same time instead of suffering in switching between them.
Thirdly, you can use some sub weapons to hang and not just as weapons.
Fourthly, when you die a lot and run out of all lives, you can continue from the checkpoint.
Fortunately, the game is very fair from this point. Fifthly, the game has replay value in return to stages
and discover new areas that are not accessible from the first time. Let's talk about the flaws.
First of all, you don't utilize Rush much.
He can transform inform into a bike and it is somehow acceptable
and he can provide you with useful items which means that Power Mega Man is not available.
Yes, not available! Secondly, there are side-shooter stages with auto scrolling.
I don't know what I'm exactly playing. Mega Man or R-Type? Aside from this,
there are stages on jet ski and they are the most annoying. Your timing has to be perfect or you will fall.
I'm here to play a platform game and I don't want to be distracted from the main events.
Also, I personally didn't feel the level design was on par with the previous games. Some may argue with me on this.
Fourthly, the energy tanks are removed entirely. It is true you can restart from the checkpoints after you lose your lives
and you have Rush's ability to drops items for you , still the energy tanks are more practical.
Fifthly and finally, the disastrous voice acting like I mentioned earlier. Just listen!
*Sarcasm* What is this game with this rubbish voice acting?
Don't even think about provoking me? Just continue your review.
Seriously! You can't stand jokes!
Another scene where Mega Man shouts exaggeratedly out of pain.
Any way, when you reach the final stages, you will face difficulties in them and there are some annoying places.
When you reach Dr. Wily, you will face him in two forms. The second form will be a challenge for you,
because you won't have energy tanks, but Rush is there to help you.
After you beat Dr. Wily, he will beg you forgive him as usual.
Something strange will escort Mega Man to safety and they game will be finished
Mega Man 8 is an acceptable game in general and good in comparison to previous games.
I don't know, but I didn't make me feel it made that big transition like the seventh. It is not a bad generally speaking.
I heard that the Sega Saturn version is better than the Sony Play Station version and has exclusive content,
but this is what's I currently have.
The package is missing some games.
I was supposed to get Mega Man 9 and Mega Man 10.
It seems that Sack-face brought me an incomplete package. Let me call him. I will show him.
"Half an hour later"
What do you wan...
What are you wearing??
Huh!? I am eeeehhhh
I am Eeehhh
I'm talking about Mega Man. Today's episode is about Mega Man like I told you.
Any way, you brought an incomplete package. Where are Mega Man 9 and Mega Man 10?
Oh really!
Didn't you know that these two games were released digitally only??
Huh?!
Released digitally?
How will I be able to access the old store and download them?
Here!
A Mega Man collection?
Why didn't say there was a collection instead of ordering this expensive collection?? I'm wasting money for nothing!
I only bring what the customer orders.
I don't have time for you. Good bye.
I don' know what I'm so jinxed.
I am the one to feel jinxed for being with you in this episode.
Anyway
Mega Man 9 or Rockman 9.
Wait! The game is 8-bit?
Maybe the Title only. Now we will see
Even the gameplay is 8-bit? Atop from this, you can't charge your shot or even slide?
What made them use this style. Why couldn't they develop?
Is the game really 8-bit?? What were they thinking???
You complain a lot!
The ninth game's idea was to reboot the original classic series to its origin
and it was mainly targeted towards the series's fans
and it is heavily inspired by the initial games
which didn't have the charge shot and the slide.
It was known that the second game was the favourite game for most gamers and me too.
That's why the ninth game is inspired from it.
Stop complaining and continue reviewing!
OK. It is known in the Mega Man series after 8, it was put in a long hiatus
and it returned on Play Station 3, Xbox 360 and Wii. Like what the narrator said.
It is a return to the classic games and how they originally were, but we can got used to original stuff
like the charged shot and the slide.
The ninth game is difficult and very challenging like the old games, but it is not ridiculously hard.
This depends on the quality of the gamer himself. You need to learn from your mistakes.
The graphics are generally good and the soundtracks are very good. The main disadvantage is that it didn't offer many additions,
but gamers didn't feel the lack, because this game was released after more than ten years from the eighth game.
Therefore, they wouldn't feel. Unlike me as I'm in the middle of a marathon.
You can obtain sub weapons from bosses and for the first time, they included a female boss.
The sub weapons are excellent and useful at most times. There is even a shop where you can buy items.
Thanks God they returned the energy tanks. You can use Rush and he is very useful this time,
but Power Mega Man is not available. You know why and we mentioned it earlier.
The rhythm is like usual. Beat the 8 bosses, enter the final stages and face Dr. Wily.
What's funny here is that after you beat Dr. Wily in the end,
Mega Man shows him flashbacks when he was begging him to tease him.
I feel this is worse than arresting him.
Dr. Wily gives it back to him when he shows him that the captive Dr. Light
is a dummy and electrocute him to escape. Proto Man saves Mega Man and the game ends.
Worth noting that you can play as Proto Man as a hidden character.
He can charge his shot and slide. He has special abilities, but his defense is weak.
He initially was in a package that you had to buy, but he is available in Legacy Collection as a hidden character.
Honestly, Mega Man 9 in an excellent game. I see it to be better than the eighth game. It is on par with classic games, but it is targeted towards professionals.
Mega Man 10 or Rockman 10.
After the huge success of the ninth game, Capcom continued it with releasing the tenth game in the original series
and it was released on the same consoles that the ninth game was released on. It is also an 8-bit game
and follows the same style of the classic games. It is also difficult and has challenges.
What's special in this game is that you can play as 2 characters: Mega Man and Proto Man.
If you like the classic style, choose Mega Man. But if you like to the modern style
like charging the shot and sliding, pick Proto Man.
It is nice that they try to satisfy both audiences. The gameplay remains the same.
Jumping on platforms and shooting. The sub weapons are useful.
The game in general is at the same level of the ninth game and this is a good thing.
If you are a moderate gamer, don't worry. There is a difficulty option
and you can play it on easy mode. What's also special is that you can unlock a hidden character who is Bass
and his feature is that he shoot in different directions and use dash which we see in Mega Man X series.
He fuses with his robotic wolf, Treble. This feature will substitute Power Mega Man.
Let's talk about the final stages. You can pass them with little patience. When you reach Dr. Wily,
his encounter will be easy and you will be able to differentiate between the real and the fake.
After you beat him, he will beg for the millionth time and will get sick. Mega Man will take him to hospital
and guess what will happen there.
Exactly! I don't need to say it.
Now we have reached the end of the Mega Man marathon.
Most of the games are excellent, some are good and others are acceptable. However, the series as whole is perfect.
I personally prefer the seventh game. It is the least complicated and offers exploration. The level design in it is nice
with reasonable difficulty,
but whoever wants to start the series, he can start with the second game.
It has a good challenge and the level design is excellent, too. The soundtrack is also great.
It is true that I preferred some classic games to it, but in the end, it is my personal opinion. You can judge from your personal experience.
Now we are done from the Mega Man series which is a great and legendary series.
Mega Man as a character is as great as other characters from other platform games.
Thank you for watching and good bye.
Now you arrived you lazy boy?
Get lost. The package got delayed.
Fine! Put it here and we will leave it for the next episode.
OK!
"To be continued..."
