Borderline Personality Disorder vs Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (Signs Symptoms Explained) - Duration: 12:18.

I got an amazing question over on patreon asking about the difference

between borderline personality disorder and complex post-traumatic stress disorder and

that's exactly where we're gonna be talking about in this video we talked

about the focus on the solution to increase awareness and focus on this

specific topic but all of my patrons just know I'm going to try to answer all

of your questions it's just this really deserves a dedicated video bundle some

of the other questions together so don't you worry I will be getting all of them

squeezed in so this question came from what am i right

longest subscribers Luana okay she's been around here like she's oh gee the

rewired soul like that that was still like recording videos on my cell phone

alright she asked me you know because someone in her life is struggling with

BPD and CPTSD and she's like what's the difference so I'm like huh

that's a great question and it's a great question I think it needs a dedicated

video cuz I know a lot of you a lot of you will come to my channel for my

borderline personality disorder of videos okay it's a point that we talked

about this so I'm gonna be completely transparent with all of you completely

let's eat some like people like trying to like expose people for like

plagiarism in style right before making this video I watched

Katie morons video on BPD verse CPTSD and a lot of the information from her

video is going to be in this video I will link to her video down in the

description below I mentioned throughout my Shane Dawson

video like Kati is a very very good therapist myself on certain mental

health topics so yeah you're gonna see some similarities but one thing I can

make a whole nother video on this like one thing I will say is that sometimes

we teach things different and explain things different so like it's good for a

bunch of different people to teach or explain a different topic because

sometimes it's more well received from other people like sometimes you know

when somebody tells me something it makes perfect sense so like don't knock

on people for like you know using other people's information do we give credit

which I'm doing for Kati Morton alright so first I'm not covered on this channel

yet is CPTSD this is complex post-traumatic stress disorder alright

so I've talked about PTSD post-traumatic stress disorder but CPTSD is a little

bit different the way they differentiate these two is somebody who experienced as

CPTSD and has that diagnosis and somebody who had a repeated trauma so

typically this is this is somebody who repeated like continuous like for

example child abuse right or when they were a kid or they were in an abusive

relationship and these are traumas that happen over and over and over and over

again but I would say you know people who have been you know a victim of like

human trafficking these are people who might have see PTSD

or somebody who has like a relative or a family member or you know whoever it

might be who traumatized them over and over and over again okay so this is this

is like a reoccurring trauma alright with PTSD it could be like one specific

event so some of the issues that somebody with CPTSD might struggle with

include problems with emotion regulation which we're gonna talk about again in a

second when it comes to borderline personality disorder not remembering the

trauma so there when we talk about repressed memories

and things like that there are a lot of people see PTSD where they don't

remember okay now one of the other issues that they have is their

perception of themselves okay perception that you know they're not good they're a

bad person and different kind of like negative self-talk one of the other

issues is is a distorted perception of the abuser okay and this is very

important to discuss because you have people who will defend the abuser

especially if it was like a parent right there are some people who will take care

of this person in their old age even though the person who's struggling with

the see PTSD is the victim in the situation that's very important this is

why you need to get help for this kind of thing one of the issues that they

show the whip is a lot of trust issues with other people like somebody with

PTSD necessarily have trust issues depending on their trauma so now as far

as borderline personality disorder I have an entire BPD playlist and this

video is going in that but I highly recommend you go check out my BPD

playlist videos about the nine symptoms you have to meet five of them to be

diagnosed with borderline personality disorder I have a video talking about

the emotional dysregulation issues I have a video about what causes so I've

already done this video like a bunch of times in different ways so make sure you

go check that out but some of the main things that people with BPD so what is

emotional regulation right extreme highs and extreme lows but it's different than

bipolar disorder I talked about it a little bit in my video about social

Paytas we're in oh and Jason that sat down with actually they have issues with

impulse impulsivity because when these emotions are going up it might do risky

behaviors right this can be substance abuse promiscuity just other dangerous

things the other one is is this like intense fear of abandonment and many

times it's more imagined than it is real

and then feelings of emptiness like one of the reasons it's called borderline

personality disorder is that people with BPD have a hard time finding a sense of

self okay so that's a little crash course in BPD so as you can see there

are some similarities between C PTSD and BPD all right this is why it's important

to never diagnose yourself Manford diagnose yourself okay I make these

videos for educational purposes like the main reason I make these videos is

because if if you can relate to some of these symptoms if you're like huh that

kind of sounds like me go talk to a professional go talk to a professional

do not let them do this stuff do not even go and buy one of these DSM's or

anything like talk to a professional because mental illness is very very

difficult because so many disorders have overlapping symptoms and that's one of

the reasons Luana asked me this question because BPD and c PTSD have a lot of

overlapping symptoms alright so let's talk about some of the main differences

so as far as the overlapping goes check this out this is a stand I pulled from

Katie Boyd's video okay so 24% of people with PTSD also have borderline

personality disorder okay 30% of people with BPD also have PTSD alright so if

something I talk about all the time and this is why like I try to make these

videos or try to teach people how to improve their mental health most people

not all the most people with suffered some kind of trauma when they were

younger okay but it's important for us to realize that like adults as parents

as humans we can cause mental illness in other people that's why I try to

decrease the stigma like it's it's terrible that people like blame somebody

for their mental illness when there are many times where a traumatic event

outside of somebodies control helped cause that mental illness alright now

one of the main differences between BPD and C PTSD is somebody with C PTSD had

to have had a traumatic event okay someone with BPD

it's not always a traumatic event could be other things and trauma is very

subjective it's different for everybody it's two different people one person

might have been traumatized with one situation and the other person same

situation not traumatize all right so I think that's like very important to

understand about people who understand what PTSD like I saw some nasty comments

on the recent video about PTSD and abuse and people like toughen up toughen up

like I hate that I hate how people think that their reality is everybody else's

reality drives me nuts anyways the way that treatment and recovery is for SI

PTSD and BPD is also different so somebody with Si PTSD they're their

primary focus and goal of treatment is to process through the trauma right to

heal the brand to work through that pain to help the brain heal and not be so

reactive to triggers okay one of the best therapies but go google this one of

the best therapies is EMDR therapy for people with any type of

PTSD whether it's PTSD or C PTSD it is like eye movement reprocessing wait no

decision and we process fix this and look up the definition for me it was

very very very effective for India I know dozens of people who have PTSD or

see PTSD and they've done EMDR therapy and they've said has been life-changing

for them and do me a favor too if you've ever done EMDR therapy for my future

video let me know down in the comments below like did it help they did not help

let me know down in the comments below okay so now BPD BPD since it's not

always necessarily about a trauma BPD is more about learning how to regulate

emotions so for people at BPD one of the best therapies for that is dialectical

behavioral therapy okay DBT all right I have a subscriber here who is always up

in the comments and he's talking a lot and being him if they're talking about

grounding techniques so DBT uses a lot of grounding techniques slash

mindfulness to help you become more aware I talked

about this in my video that Trisha Paytas and Jason Astor with Kati Morton

like a lot of this like stopping your behaviors and controlling your impulses

comes from grounding techniques mindfulness meditation DPD all that kind

of goes together ok so one of the last and final differences between these two

is that people with BPD are more likely to have self harming behavior and

suicidal thoughts okay a lot of them struggle with you know themselves that

interpersonal stuff so while somebody with C PTSD may have like a poor

internal dialogue it gets much more extreme for people with BPD okay so

anyways let's talk down in the comments below did you learn something did this

help you out in any way shape or form alright but again I'm going to do more

patreon Q&A s so if you're one of those people who is always telling me in the

comments do a video about this do a video about come over to patreon you can

sign up for as little as $1 a month it helps support me and do what I love

to do we just help people with their mental health you get more personalized

content because I love answering questions and rewarding the people who

are helping to support the channel you can't you can't do that like don't

worry I love the fact you're just here anyways alright but that's all I got for

you with this video if you like this video please give it a thumbs up if

you're new make sure to subscribe and ring that notification but these are all

the beautiful members of patreon it keeps growing I love you all so much and

My Foot Got Stuck and A Custody Case - Duration: 7:09.

(upbeat music)

Kyle Graham.

Morning, your Honor.

Morning, sir.

Mr. Graham, you're charged with going through a red light

on North Main Street and Branch Avenue.

Yes, sir.

This was at 6:16 in the evening.

I don't know if it was me.

I don't know if it was my son.

Because I go to Miriam Hospital for treatments

for my legs

and at that time, I might have had to rush or rush home

or my feet might have got stuck on the gas pedal.

'Cause my legs are not that great.

At that time, I was doing a lot of treatment

and my legs was not that great.

They get stuck.

I couldn't drive that well.

I couldn't function that well.

Your foot got stuck on the gas.

No, it's my leg.

It was my legs. Your leg got stuck.

It might have, I don't know.

I don't remember what happened, to tell you the truth.

Suppose somebody was crossing the street.

That's what I'm saying.

I don't even remember 'cause my legs--

No, you don't remember.

You got memory loss

and your foot gets stuck on the gas pedal.

Anything else you wanna say to incriminate yourself?

No one was crossing the street, I know that.

Oh, no one was crossing the street.

No, no one was crossing

the street. Thank God.

Glad I wasn't in the area.

No one was crossing the street.

We're gonna take a look at it.

Okay.

Okay.

He's in the middle lane Your Honor.

Which vehicle is his?

What was the time on that?

0.3 Your Honor.

The statute provides that if you

pass a red light on camera,

and the time is 0.2, they don't charge you.

That's 2/10 of a second.

You were 0.3.

The difference between 0.2 and 0.3 is so infinitesimal,

that I give a break on it.

Okay.

So, I'm probably gonna give you a break

but I'm concerned about what you just, seriously,

I'm concerned about what you just told me.

I don't want you to place yourself in jeopardy

or anyone else so you have that issue

where your foot, your leg

gets stuck or you can't control it.

You should not be driving.

That was at that time.

I'm okay now.

Oh, you've rectified the problem?

Yes, sir.

Oh, I'm sure, you've rectified the problem.

Yes, sir.

Alright.

Fully in remission now.

Oh, it's because of a medical condition you have?

Yes, 'cause of a medical condition.

And you really don't have to

tell us your medical condition.

That's very private with you.

Okay.

But, we're all wishing you well

and hope that everything works out,

whatever the medical condition is.

Based on the time, the matter will be dismissed.

Good luck to you.

Thank you, sir.

Have a good day.

I was happy to hear Mr. Graham is in remission

and hopefully headed for a full recovery.

But his case does bring up an important issue.

Safe driving demands your full concentration

and complete control of your motor skills.

If you have a medical condition,

please, take the time to heal your body

and clear your mind.

Trust me.

Your family, friends, and fellow motorists

will all appreciate it.

(guitar solo)

Counsel, you identify yourself for the record?

Susanna Koetter for the defendant.

Alright.

This is point number 15-115 charges Jasmine Pacheco with

disorderly conduct.

The matter is,

in my judgment a serious matter

because it involves two young children.

Evidently Ms. Pacheco has two children,

Tristan who is five years old

and Avery who is one year old, not one yet.

The children have been staying with a grandmother

and according to the police report,

Ms. Pacheco went there last night to get the children

and the grandmother wouldn't release the children.

According to the report, the grandmother alleges

that the children have been there for several weeks

and she hasn't been there to pick them up.

And it's a question about custody

and Ms. Pacheco said she had custody

but she went to her house, she couldn't find the papers.

So the police arrive.

The police had to make a decision.

They called DCYF.

DCYF says we don't have a case on this

but we'll look into it.

In the meantime, they advised the police to

have the children stay where the police thought

it would be in the best interest of the children

for the night.

Well the hour was late, it was after 9:00 last night

when all this happened.

And so the police determined that

because the little baby was sleeping

that the children would stay with the grandmother.

And then Ms. Pacheco became somewhat irate

and as they were leaving, she attempted to get back

into the house and disobeyed police commands

and they couldn't stop her

and she broke a column outside on the porch.

The grandmother wasn't interested in filing charges

for property damage but because of her unruly conduct,

police had to restrain her.

The charged her with disorderly conduct.

Yes, Your Honor.

This case is much more serious

than a disorderly conduct case

because it involves two young children.

How do you plea?

Your Honor, my client admits

that she was overly emotional last night.

She is going to DCYF today to begin the process

of dealing with this in a more formal channel.

But she will admit that she was a little bit disorderly

last night and she pleads no nolo Your Honor.

By my inclination,

is to plea her a not guilty.

Okay.

And I wanna sit her down for trial.

Okay.

Because I'm concerned with that what's gonna happen now.

Because right now, the situation is unsettled.

Yes.

The children are still with the grandmother.

She wants the children.

I really don't know

what's in the best interest of the children.

Yes Your Honor.

Other agencies that will make that decision.

I understand DCYF will get involved.

Yes.

At that point, DCYF or the family court

or some other agency that is empowered to make that decision

will make that decision.

In the meantime, if all of that gets resolved

and there's an amicable solution

and I am satisfied that the channels are followed,

the children are being properly being cared for,

then I'll dismiss this.

But until that happens,

I don't wanna make a decision on this case.

Okay, that's fair.

Is there anything else you wish to tell me?

No, Your Honor.

That's fair.

She was planning to go to DCYF after this anyway.

Good luck to you.

As you saw, the public defender recommended that

her client plea nolo to the disorderly conduct charge.

The term nolo is short for nolo contendere,

a latin phrase which means I do not wish to content.

The nolo plea means that the defendant neither admits

nor disputes the charge.

But it has the same immediate effect as a guilty plea.

In this case, I felt that it would be better for Ms. Pacheco

and her children if she pleaded not guilty.

Then we could set the case down for trial.

Hopefully, that will allow time for the custody dispute

to be amicably resolved

and I will be able to dismiss the charges

which in the long run, will hopefully be beneficial

to her and her children.

SCOTUS Steps In To Protect Government From Lawsuits - Duration: 1:30.

Finally tonight, some good news, which unfortunately is immediately also followed by some bad news.

Early last week, a US district judge ruled that the 21 children and young adults suing

the federal government for an action on climate change had presented enough evidence and proved

that they had the necessary standing to sue the government, and therefore, the case could

head to trial, possibly by the end of this month.

Now, this is a lawsuit that's been working its way through the legal system for more

than three years now.

It was finally going to land in the hands of a jury to determine the fate of climate

action here in the United States.

Here's the bad news, late last week, the US Department of Justice petitioned the US Supreme

Court to intervene.

The SCOTUS did exactly that by issuing a stay on the lower court's ruling, meaning that

the trial is now delayed indefinitely.

Chief Justice John Roberts issued the stay, even though the Supreme Court itself, in July,

unanimously ruled that the case could proceed.

The same thing that every other court who has looked at this case has said.

Now, this lawsuit was filed against both the Obama administration and the Trump administration

for their failures to protect citizens from the effects of climate change and pollution.

It was perhaps our best hope to force the government to take action on the issue.

Now, thanks to our corporate friendly Supreme Court, this case might be put on ice indefinitely.

Will Daniella & Lilimar ESCAPE?? ⏰Haunted House Challenge Pt. 4 | Nick - Duration: 5:03.

[screaming]

[screaming]

[screaming]

- Hey, guys! It's Lilimar. - And Daniella.

And this is the last bit of it.

We are back at Nickelodeon's Ultimate Haunted House.

Like, it's the last one. We don't--

- What do you expect? - I don't know.

Honestly, there's been a lot of surprises so I don't know what's gonna happen.

I'm hoping it's not the scariest. I really hope it's not going in levels.

- Yes, that's what we need! - Let's do it!

We need to end it on a strong note. So yeah, let's go get scared.

Oh, Lilimar.

[moaning]

Can she not talk to me? She didn't say one word.

Who does that?

I know you-- I know. I know.

I'm expecting it, come out now. Come out, I saw you. Come out.

[screaming]

Don't touch the curtains either! Remember? Ha-ha-ha!

- Keep that in mind. - OK!

When you get scared, maybe just scream like this, ah!

- Ah! - Hold yourself at a certain, like...

- I'll just stand there. - Keep your stance.

I'll you know, complete-- Ah!

I hear giggling.

Ew, where's the bathroom?

Go against the wall. I'm going against the wall, I'm doing it.

I gotta get through real fast.

- Are you gonna go first? - Sure.

- Someone broke through here. - It's my shadow.

No, no, no. The stairs are not OK.

When you go upstairs, you know something's about to go down.

You just know it.

[screaming]

[laughing]

Let me show you what I've been working on.

- I'm good. - No!

I don't like your art, I'm sorry. I'm not a fan.

I'm OK with everything.

Yeah, I feel like-- Yeah, I picked up on that.

I feel like you'd still be scared, but then at the end you'll be like I loved it!

It was so much fun!

I have my contacts in, but I can't see, OK.

No, I see something.

[moaning]

[screaming]

I'm already crying! I'm almost crying!

[moaning]

Ah, finally!

[glass breaking]

It's a wizard!

I didn't like that.

[yelling]

[laughing]

Run while you still can!

I don't know where I'm supposed to go.

I'm almost a fearful god!

What I like to do is I freeze up.

So it kind of makes it seem like I'm not scared,

and then they kind of go away.

Ah.

[yelling]

[moaning]

[growling]

Oh.

Gotta go, so...

No. No, no.

Follow the guy with the big camera.

Ew!

[screaming]

Come, meet my relatives.

Or maybe you want to meet this one? Do you want this one?

- No, I don't want that one. - This one's the best one.

That's the best one. That's nice to know.

Are you sure? Well, what about you?

Oh, no!

[screaming]

Ya!

Oh, no!

I'm trying to look like a strong, independent woman.

- I'm a strong independent woman-- - That doesn't need no zombie.

I hate curtains.

I really do, especially when they're ugly.

Make me want to sneeze.

- Come here, my pretty! - No, no, no.

Ew, they're so gross. Don't hold that!

No, why are you holding it?

I don't like bugs, OK?

Stop. Stop. Stop.

I don't trust-- No!

OK...

[screaming]

[yelling]

- Oh boy. - I hate-- I hate all of this!

We have to do it.

[screaming]

[screaming]

[screaming]

- Go, go, go. - No!

No!

[screaming]

OK, I am so happy we made it out of the house.

Thank you guys so much for watching. Make sure to comment down below

what was your favorite part.

Haunting.

- Happy Halloween! - Woo!

I started crying in this one, because I got scared three times in a row.

[laughing]

I did, I was like--

No, yeah I had like a tear coming down.

I was like guys, there's a tear.

I was at camera and I was like, I'm crying.

Horribly Unhealthy Things That People Used To Think Were Good For You - Duration: 5:06.

When your doctor is hovering over you with a huge needle, it's natural to be nervous.

But it could be so much worse.

In the not-so-distant past, the treatment was often worse than the disease.

Here are some horribly unhealthy things people used to think were good for you.

This'll get your goat

Never underestimate the desperation of a man whose manhood isn't doing what it's supposed

to.

While impotence treatments today are safe and commonplace, it used to be a pretty dicey

field.

And it doesn't get much worse than when a quack "doctor" in the 1920s pitched the idea

of transplanting goat testicles into human scrotums to restore male virility and fertility.

This quack was John Richard Brinkley, whose story was made semi-famous in the acclaimed

2016 documentary Nuts!.

Brinkley - who had zero legitimate medical education or training - scammed countless

men into coming to his hospital and having their genitals mutilated, partly by buying

a radio station to advertise his 100% ineffective and dangerous surgeries.

While battling what ultimately amounted to more than a dozen wrongful death lawsuits,

Brinkley ran two unsuccessful campaigns for Kansas governor, but his cons eventually caught

up to him.

In 1941 he was sued into bankruptcy, and he died penniless a year later.

Give it a rest

Rest is a good thing, sure, but the so-called "rest cure" pioneered by Dr. Silas Weir Mitchell

in the Victorian era was anything but restful.

Mitchell's supposed cure was primarily used to treat women who were perceived as "hysterical"

or too "independent" - basically any woman who wasn't being docile and subservient to

men.

Free-thinking women were at high risk of being prescribed a rest cure, and some of the more

famous victims included The Yellow Wallpaper author Charlotte Perkins Gilman and novelist

Virginia Woolf, famously played by Nicole Kidman in The Hours.

A woman prescribed to a rest cure was mandated to at least six weeks of enforced bed rest

without visitors.

Some patients weren't allowed to talk, read, or write, and were bathed and fed by a nurse.

A near-constant diet of fatty milk products were often force-fed, essentially turning

adult women into infants.

Blowin' smoke

Brushing your teeth and flossing every morning and night might be annoying sometimes, but

at least our mouths are not festering cesspools of rot, cavities, and disease.

Toothpaste is the dental industry's magic bullet, and whatever brand you squeeze onto

those bristles, you can be reasonably sure it's helping preserve your teeth.

Unless you're using an old tube of tobacco toothpaste.

Yep: tobacco toothpaste.

According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine, there was an unfortunate misconception

in India for decades that tobacco was somehow a beneficial ingredient to put in your toothpaste

or tooth powder.

Not surprisingly, the practice of using tobacco toothpaste - better known as "creamy snuff"

- proved just as addictive as cigarettes, particularly among male schoolchildren.

Tobacco toothpaste was finally outlawed in India in the 1990s.

Meth malpractice

In the mid-1930s, a Berlin pharmaceutical company started selling a popular medicine

called Pervitin, which was said to boost your alertness, make you perform better, and generally

supercharge your day.

Sounds great, right?

Pervitin was sold across Germany as the best coffee substitute ever, and Nazi soldiers

loved the tablets so much they fondly nicknamed it "pilot's salt."

The problem?

Pervitin was actually meth.

But Nazi Germany was so enthralled with Pervitin that the drug was freely distributed to the

troops, meaning quite a number of Gestapo soldiers became hooked on the stuff.

The biggest meth fan of all, though, might've been Adolf Hitler himself.

Hitler's manic hypochondria led to him doing a lot of weird treatments, and by the end

of his life, he received daily pill cocktails and hard drug injections, including methamphetamines.

In too deep

Today, people diagnosed with schizophrenia are generally treated with a combination of

medication and psychosocial therapy.

However, from the 1930s until nearly 1960, the dominant treatment was deep insulin coma

therapy, where patients were induced into a coma on a near-daily basis through heavy

injections of insulin.

The scary practice was famously depicted in the 2001 film A Beautiful Mind, which shows

mathematician John Nash undergoing the procedure.

Even at the height of its popularity, insulin coma therapy never produced effective results.

But there were enough confirmed deaths and brain injuries that a brave doctor named Harold

Bourne finally sounded the alarm in 1953.

Bourne's demand for more evidence put him at war with the powers-that-be, and though

he was blacklisted at the time, his criticisms eventually led to the treatment falling out

of practice, saving thousands of lives.
