Waching daily Oct 7 2018

sooh does Julia Widow wait and I hereby promise to never put out a trash quality

video ill a donation it's yo-yo it'll wait ends a day we're doing something

different oh wait oh wait nation joy went away and today we're gonna be doing

something a little different as you all know I consider myself to be a part of

the use of animation community so I'm subscribed to a lot of animators

but recently I have been noticing in my suggested feed yeah we're trying to tell

you all animations are trash a lot of these the problem with YouTube and

amazing and I like getting criticism I like another perspective of my work and

I never respond angrily to those comments so I've been watching a couple

of them hopefully being able to take information and better my content and a

lot of you guys make some pretty weak points dog and there's a lot of

hypocrisy in what you guys say so I know this isn't an animated story

I don't care fam we don't even watch your stories like that I hope you still

enjoy whole lot Burnett John's kind of hidden

though just about every animation critique channel I've seen uses this

point somewhere in their video they all collab with the odd ones out for views

in its garbage okay let me just put the odd ones out in the thumbnail like you

do it to bro like you always either have the man in the title or in the thumbnail

like this one guy even got him to record a line then put man's in the title isn't

that right James Yi the what he said about it was I'm showing you how stupid

to do just to prove I stupid it is that people actually do this and I get it

like even if that was the point you still got mad views off of the

featuring odd ones out in your title my guy G collabs a stupid Brad look look

how stupid this is see see I shouldn't make a random thoughts video and claim

it was only to prove us stupid that point was the thing is YouTube is a

search engine so the key to getting views is having the right title that

will attract the most views and my channel proves that on the fact that my

art tutorials get a lot more views than my actual animations even when I had

that realization a month ago and started optimizing my titles my channel has been

growing faster than ever cuz with how to draw videos I can just search up how to

draw and boom there are suggestions with the most popular searches with story

times that's not the same case I can't make a story about my life that is a

popular topic that everyone is talking about taken out without subscribers they

don't watch the odd ones out for specific stories no one who doesn't know

about the odd ones out is searching up growing up without cable animated story

but you know what they are searching the odd ones out rapper wouldn't get views

if they made a song called Marvin but they would give use if they made a

song featuring Drake that's why featuring the odd ones out or

any other big animator gets mad views well but hey maybe there's a story I can

make that can get me views without having to make you mad I'll just make a

random thoughts video already made that video we don't have a choice

we can't collab and we can't make random thoughts videos what do you expect us to

do to grow bruh make an animation critique video yeah I said a lot of you

guys's most popular videos or even the videos that caused your channel to spike

and blow up are because of your animation critique videos come on now

one of the main points a lot of you like to make are oh it's not real animation

no it should be called storyboard don't call yourself an animation channel and

yes while I can definitely agree a lot of us don't do actual animations the

name is already set in stone bro we didn't choose it I mean we did I mean

the name of the genre is already set in stone roads mainly known as the

animation community we don't really have a choice like what type of use do you

think I would get if I called my videos storyboard stories or animatic stories

actually let me hit up my boy to buddy and show you and you guys's videos you

like to claim a lot of us are the same

is cuz I am able to make beats and make jokes like the one I did earlier sir

please do not copyright me I got a link to the creator of the original sample in

the description even though no one's gonna really view it because I have

three case subs what I mean

while I do agree a lot of us pick the whole corny introvert persona that's

only because you forget a lot of these animators are children and yes when you

make the introvert point you mainly use the super young animators come on so

either one they actually are introverts because they're mad young or be there

just impressionable kids who pick the introvert persona

I'm the animators that they watch even I was guilty of this when I first started

yo so you remember that embarrassing thing you did like six years ago

well now you do Hey look another animation critique channel let me see

what I can gain from this video and apply to my extra channel hey guys today

I'm showing you why the animation community is mad cringy one of the

reasons is because they always use these bland avatars if you don't get you you

like to clown us for using quote-unquote bland avatars I myself can't relate

because I put hours upon hours into making my habits or in hours upon hours

and to draw into frames and my videos when in your own videos you do the exact

same thing Braille like now I will admit some avatars are a lot more trash than

others but like the point I made earlier a lot of these channels are just kids

trying to be like their favorite animators and if this is the only thing

they have skills that drop the moment not a lot of people are willing to wait

like I did until they were good at art to start a channel that's why even I

would like to say my first OC wasn't garbage I'm pretty sure they will grow

and then a redesigning their character more and more like many other animation

channels including myself have done in the past at the end of the day making an

animation channel and growing it while keeping up with the algorithm isn't easy

my guy I would venture to say making quad

storytimes by yourself is one of the hardest YouTube videos to make one of

not the hardest but easily top ten especially if you make two of them in a

week like I do so not all of its gonna be full animation and honestly it

doesn't even really matter as long as your video is funny not bland and

visually appealing it shouldn't really matter also making this video was way

easier than making a story time I'm a wrap it up here I'm sure there are a lot

of animation channels that they're also a lot of critique channels too you claim

that we're all the same but a lot of you guys are also the same as well you say

the animation community is doomed but it's quite the opposite it's easily one

of the biggest jhanas in YouTube and I don't see a dying anytime soon and

honestly it was a lot easier and less time consuming to make this video rather

than an animation story time so cut some slack sorry there was some sodium

chloride in there at the end of the day before you can critique saw it I did

there with the parenthesis before you can critique us do some personal

soul-searching no beef though that's not my bike hey we back on this end card and

I hope you don't mind me making this video I just felt some of this needed to

be saved because I've never seen an animation channel make a rebuttal to

these set of videos so I figured I might as well add my unwanted two cents into

the mix anyway that being said shout out to the Twitter

gang be sure to join it's a fam and if you yes you want to join the newest wave

on the way to the YouTube animation destination be sure to subscribe to an

808 nation peace you claim that there are a lot of animation channels but

they're also a lot of can we you climate they're a lot of animation channels but

they're also a lot of critique channel oh you claim that there are a lot of

animation channels but there are also a lot of critiques little oh my gosh

Neil deGrasse Tyson - "Accessory to War" & Arming Society with Knowledge | The Daily Show - Duration: 11:28.

-Welcome back to the show. -Hey, man.

Thanks for having me back.

-First things first. -What's that?

-Happy birthday. -Oh. This week is my birthday.

-Happy birthday. -(applause and cheering)

So-so, but everybody has a birthday every year,

so just to specify, this is my sixtieth.

-60? -Yeah. Yeah. -(applause and cheering)

I-I'm the same age as NASA.

(laughter)

-We were born the same week in 1958. -Right.

And how are you both doing?

(laughter)

-We-we have our ups and downs. -Right, right, right. Right.

We're trying to keep 'em mostly up.

-Things are looking up. Uh... -Yeah.

We-we got Neil a little cake from the show, and, uh,

I was like, "We should make it like a planet-type thing."

And then we're like, "Well, the planet doesn't, like, balance."

-So we got you, like, half a planet. -Yeah.

Then we're like, "Is it a planet?

Is he gonna judge us for it?" It was so much stress.

It's-it's a pro... It's a planet somewhere in the universe.

-Right. -Not one of ours, right.

Yeah. Well, like, can I ask you a question? Do, like...?

-What? -Are people intimidated by you,

because, like, they don't want to say the wrong...?

Like, for instance, I-I'm just hanging out with Neil.

I always ask him a random question

about what's plaguing me

about what's happening in the universe.

And now, I was like, "Hey, man, what's going on with Pluto?"

'Cause I read a thing where they said, like,

Pluto might be a planet again,

and then you're like, "No, it's not a planet again."

-What's going on with Pluto? -Just-just get over it.

It's-it's had...

Get over it which way?

(laughter)

So it's a planet, it's not a planet?

-Which way should I get over it? -No, no. I think there's

a push right now to try to get it back,

-but it's gonna be really hard. -A push from whom?

We... There are people. There are planet...

There are Pluto... plan... Pluto lovers out there

that have not... not given up.

You're telling me there's, like, a Pluto lobby out there

-that really, like...? -Yeah, and they're all...

and they're all mostly American,

'cause in 1930, when Pluto, the cosmic object was discovered...

-Right. -...Disney first drew Pluto the dog.

So, Plu... Yeah, the dog and-and the former planet

have the same sort of tenure in our hearts and minds.

The... Did you just say "the former planet"?

(laughter)

What? Like, man, this world.

You know what? I... What I've always enjoyed

about your work, um, and, you know,

I mean, a testament to that work is how

your book is still on the New York Times bestseller.

-Oh, crazy. My other book? -Yes, your other book.

-Yes, it's still on. -Right. New York Times.

And this showed up next to it

-on, like... -Right, right, right. Because...

-(applause and cheering) -No. We... Wait... Hey.

Yeah, because you-you make... you make...

Let me just say. Let me just say.

We cheer any science book

that lands anywhere near the bestseller list.

And so... 'Cause there's always the political books that...

-Right, right, right. -...that tide waters bring in and out.

And an athlete book and a celebrity book.

And if a science book shows, everybody's like: Whoa,

maybe finally someone will be talking science

-at the water cooler. -Right.

And so, so my first one is still... in its 73rd week.

-It's-it's ridiculous. -And this one,

-and so it's two books. -(cheering, applause)

-Two science books. Yeah. -And I say it's because you

make it so accessible-- you try and tie astrophysics

to what's happening in the world.

-I mean, this book... -Wait, wait, I could do that,

but someone still has to be interested in it.

-And for me, it's a sign... -No, no, no, no.

-it's a sign... -It's the other way around.

I think it's the other way around.

I think you make us interested in the... because you go...

Interest, I think, is created. We're interested in everything.

-That's very sweet of you. -Yeah, people are

always interested in interesting things.

-But you have to make it interesting. -(cheering)

And that's what you've done with this book for me.

Right? This book is a really interesting book.

Because you talk about the relationship

between astrophysics and the military...

-Going way back. -Right, going, like...

-but, like, way, way back. -Hundreds, thousands, yeah.

So, people have always been using...

like, the military has always been using astrophysics

-to move forward. -Well, before the...

late 19th century, just the term "astronomer" was it.

-Right. -Later on, we started doing spectroscopy

and much more physics came a part of it.

-Uh-huh. -So we use the word "astrophysics."

But basically, people who understood the universe

were handmaidens to military conquerors from the beginning.

-Right. -And part of it is,

you want to know-- especially the seafaring nations--

you want to know where the people are

who you want to conquer.

How do you know where you are on Earth?

You got to go to the astronomers,

'cause we know what the sky looks like

-from all different parts of the Earth, -Uh-huh.

and you take that information

and infer where you are on Earth from it.

-Right. -And when you do that, you control the seas,

you control the undiscovered lands,

you control the lands that people are living in

that you are more powerful than.

When you finally land on the...

-Like, Columbus did this. -Right.

Columbus, he... he, on his fourth voyage,

he-he... he landed on Hispaniola,

does what he does, he tries to get back to Spain.

He doesn't have enough supplies.

He goes to the natives and say, "Give me some of your supplies."

They said, "No, we just have enough for ourselves

-to get through to the next harvest," -Right.

and he knew that a total lunar eclipse was coming up

a week later, and he said,

"If you do not give me your supplies, I will...

"my God will make the moon go away.

I'll make it disappear from the sky."

And they freaked out. But some of them were skeptical.

A week goes by, the moon starts disappearing.

They rapidly got their supplies, gave it to him.

He stayed... he stayed in his cabin

till halfway through the eclipse.

He then comes out and says, "My God is merciful to you

"for-for giving me supplies.

We will now have the moon returned."

-(laughter) -And halfway in the eclipse,

the moon comes out the other side of Earth's shadow.

So he exploit... he used knowledge of the universe

-Right. -to exploit people not as knowledgeable

-or as powerful as he was. -That is a hilarious story,

but I feel like we're skipping over the part

-where these people died. -(laughter)

'Cause they don't have food now.

Right, right, right. There's nothing written about that.

But Columbus successfully gets back... back to Spain.

That is a wild... I feel like you could still use

those techniques today, because a lot of people

don't think like that-- like, I feel like I could use that

with, like, my taxi driver in New York.

And I'd just be like, "I'm not gonna pay." And he'd be like,

"You have to pay." And I'll be like,

"My God will remove the moon!"

I feel like it could still work today.

Yeah, it could for some, it could for-- It ain't work--

-Who follows the moon right now? -It ain't working on me,

-but it-it could work. -Well, you're not my taxi driver, Neil.

I mean, if you were my taxi driver, it'd be like, "Neil,

what happened to the best seller? What's going on, Neil?"

No, but the thing is, think about it.

If you have knowledge of natural phenomenon,

and of the universe, and you have nefarious motives,

you can exploit anybody who does not.

And so for me, science literacy

is so important in modern civilization.

So it is inoculation against people

who would otherwise exploit your ignorance

of the phenomenon of the world.

We've come a long way from the days of Columbus,

and we're looking at the modern day military today,

who are still in a relationship

-with astrophysicists. -Yes, we are.

So, you know, Donald Trump has promised us

one of the greatest promises a president ever has,

and that is the development of the Space Force.

-Space Force. Space Force. -Space Force.

-And the... -(laughs)

-The idea... -Here, calm down.

-(grunts) It's okay. -You cannot calm down

-It's okay. -when you're talking about Space Force.

You cannot calm down when you're talking about Space Force.

-Plus, the way he talked about it. -Right.

It was like, very-- It was, it was bicep flexing.

Now, I want to know from you as an astrophysicist,

how feasible is a Space Force?

Like, can you fight wars in space?

Fighting wars against other countries

when the aliens come-- where would you say

we wage the war against the aliens?

Just looking at the planet and how things work?

Yeah. Aliens, I think, just give up all hope.

If the aliens come across the galaxy in a ship,

and we haven't left... (stammers)

-We haven't been past the moon since 1972. -Oh.

They are smarter and more powerful

-and have better machinery than us. -Right.

And every example of when that happened in our own species,

the one who had less tech-- who was less technologically able,

ended up-- it was bad for them. (laughs)

They were enslaved, they were put on reservations,

they-- So, in fact, all the movies

that portray aliens treating us that way,

I think it's-- not from act-- It's not from knowledge

that we ha-- We won't have any knowledge of the aliens,

it's how we know we've treated each other.

It is a mirror to our culture and our civilization,

how aliens are portrayed in all of these sci-fi movies.

So, anyway, Space Force, yeah,

it would be nice if it could swat aliens out of the sky,

that's not what the goal.

The-the-- So the goal-- So the Air Force has a branch

of itself called the U.S., um, the U.S. Space Command.

So there's already military activity in space.

It was just sort of an accounting shift--

it shifted all out, got its own branch.

And if you're gonna do that, I'd throw in...

asteroid defense, why not?

Throw in-- Why don't you clean up the debris,

-the space debris, okay? -Right.

Now, you're thinking there's, like...

-'Cause there's the junk in space. -There's junk in space

that would be bad for our space assets.

What's a military to do?

You want them to protect your borders, of course.

-Right. -And the normal things a military would do.

But how about your assets?

There's assets in space that are worth far beyond

-the value of the hardware itself. -Right.

There's-there's satellites that enable business on the ground.

-So the GPS satellite, for example. -Uh-huh.

They were put up by the military,

and we figured out how to tap into it.

We-- I mean, people-- figured out how to tap into it

and use it for conducting business.

The entire business model of Uber

runs off of GPS satellites.

(laughs): Tinder runs off of GPS satellites, okay?

You-you want a mate in the next 48 hours

and get a coordinate system for that?

(laughs): That's... This is how that works.

So, now, what-what I'm enjoying...

And-and, wait, so, in the old days...

(both laugh)

-What I'm enjoying... what I'm enjoying right now... -What?

What I'm enjoying right now

is that... is this relationship.

So, you had a natural physicist like yourself who was like,

"I think I've just figured out a way

"to use space to launch a satellite

that can tell us exactly where we are on the Earth."

And the military was like, "We can use this to conquer people."

And someone was like, "Oh, now I know how to smash."

-That was basically... -(laughs)

-Is that evolution, or is that the opposite? -I...

-What is that? -I don't know what that shows.

-The creat... The boundless creativity of people -Right.

when confronted with a new means of conducting business.

So, is it important for astrophysics

to be part of the military?

Is this something that is a luxury,

or do you genuinely think

that this will determine the future of the world?

Here's what happened. We make discoveries,

and the military looks over the picket fence.

-Says, "Hey, we want some of that." -Right.

And then they do things of much higher budget

that we couldn't otherwise afford.

It emerges out, and it gets declassified.

Say, "Hey, we want some of that."

Project Keyhole was an idea

-to put telescopes in orbit that look down. -Right.

With masterminded telescopes, beautiful telescopes.

We said, "Hey," after that got declassified.

"We want one of those."

Became the Hubble Space Telescope.

-Looking up. -Right.

This is why we-we...

we care about the same things the military cares about.

Are you ever worried, though, that the military would use

one of your discoveries as an astrophysicist

to do something really horrible on Earth?

They might do that, but I have no control over that.

And so what this book does,

it-it is a discussion.

It's-it's an exploration of all the ways

we have each crossed each other's street.

Either blindly, say, "Oh, give me that.

"I don't care what you did with it or how many...

I want that 'cause it'll help me learn about the universe."

-Right. -And vice versa. I don't judge it.

I just... I-I present it, and I observe it.

Because not all wars are bad.

I used to think war was bad 'cause I grew up during Vietnam.

But the Second World War? You're not gonna sit idly by

-and just let Hitler run ramshackle over Europe. -Right.

You're gonna say, "Let's rise up."

War memorials have soldiers standing proudly,

astride a steed, brandishing weapons.

And-and I looked at that, and I said,

-"Why are they doing this? 'Cause war's bad." -Right.

But then I realized no, not all conflict is bad.

Sometimes you have to stand up

and fight enemies of civilization.

And so we have been a handmaiden

to that enterprise ever since the beginning.

And this is why they're best sellers.

You make it interesting. Thank you so much

-for being on the show, my friend. -Oh, yeah.

Top 7 INCREDIBLE Places in NEW ZEALAND you WONT BELIEVE EXIST - Duration: 10:03.

Erik Conover here coming to you from the middle of the rainforest in New Zealand

I'm here in New Zealand for only five days working on a partnership with

American Airlines and my mission in this video is simple I am scouting out the

best locations on the North Island to film a full send at travel series

sometime in the spring or the fall if you're in the southern hemisphere in

2019 without any ado this is traveling to New Zealand

you're going to start your trip on the north island in the most populated city

in the country number one on my list is Auckland in a country where there are

more sheep than people Auckland is a vibrant bustling city scape it felt like

Tokyo San Francisco and Seattle all mixed into one

based around two large harbours and in the center of the city the iconic Sky

Tower for the first activity on my list we are going it to the top of this guy

right here sky walk Auckland is the best way to get a full 360 degree panoramic

view of the city no handrail or anything you're just secured in with a harness

I'm not afraid of heights but when you leave the gated area it's the ultimate

shot of adrenaline and it's guaranteed to kick the jet lag I'm joined on this

trip by my manager Jared who well Jared is deathly afraid of heights but he was

a champ in one out on the Skywalk anyway and for

the more daring there's the sky jump which is a base jump by wire off the Sky

Tower 1,000% worth it Auckland is known as the city of sails with more boats per

capita than anywhere else in the world with that said I recommend learning how

to sail in an authentic America's Cup yacht it's very hands-on you're working

those grinders to hoist the mainsail and if you're lucky you might even see a pot

of dolphin riding the wave in the bow or maybe someone doing a full send bungee

off the Harbour Bridge and of course stunning views of Auckland from the

water leaving the bustling city life of Auckland I drove two hours south through

the lush countryside next up on my list is the sleepy surf town of Raglan now

Raglan is at the top of every surfers bucket list the peeling left handbrake

is said to be one of the longest rides in the world ever since I was a kid I

have dreamed of surfing perfect left hand bombs at Raglan

as you can see though it is a stormy day onshore winds kind of chop and slop out

there so we will see if I get the surface or if I just stand here like a

sad wet dog in the rain there Conover reported from Raglan wet cold and I'm

not gonna lie a bit defeated I did not get to surf Raglan on a positive note I

stayed at this eco-friendly resort called Sol scape the place had an

on-site kitchen with fresh produce from the garden on location the most

interesting part were the accommodations consisting of old train carts

refurbished as rooms and they had these dwellings that they called earth dome

this pretty cool stuff very sustainable and conscious of the environment I

highly recommend it I wish you can see it though in its full

glory with a blue sky but sometimes life isn't all blue skies they say here in

New Zealand you can experience all four seasons and one day it's now the next

morning and we have a beautiful sunny sky the rain has stopped the wind is

kind of died down and all of that you know how I said four seasons in one day

welcome to New Zealand a short 15 minute drive from Raglan through the lush

rainforest brings us to the next location on my list Bridal Veil Falls

the spectacular 55 meter plunge waterfall is only a short 10 minute hike

from the road through the bush lined with silver ferns all over the forest

floor the Falls have multiple vantage points one at the very top and the other

at the bottom of the falls first impressions I didn't realize how lush

the rainforest was here in New Zealand it really reminds me of Kilimanjaro

earlier this year I was in Tanzania and the base of Kilimanjaro is a rainforest

it's very similar to that I highly recommend this short trip from Raglan

for some relaxation in nature and of course the iconic Instagram shot

what is any trip to New Zealand without visiting the Shire

next on my list is the Hobbit movie said growing up I was a massive fan of the

Lord of the Rings and to see this movie set in person in real life it's kind of

like a childhood dream come true just to see the level of detail at this

place there are 44 hobbit holes dug into the hillside the film set covers 12

acres of pastures and is an actual working farm covered in sheep and tons

of little lamb roaming around the property and one piece of advice I have

when you come here you should know in advance that this is a major tourist

destination for the country of New Zealand

our tour guide Luke was saying that it's more popular now 20 years after the film

than when it was first open to the public as a tourist destination it's

actually pretty packed right now but in no way will that stop you from stepping

back into middle-earth so New Zealand is a geothermal Wonderland and has a

spectacular showcase of colorful and unique geothermal attractions sculpted

by thousands of years of volcanic activity I recommend checking out

wai-o-tapu I have never seen anything like this in nature they don't add any

colouring to this there's nothing artificial about this that colour you

are actually seeing is how it is in nature

it looks like a radioactive dump site but the neon water gets its color from

the deposits of sulfur that rise to the surface and float on top the main

attraction at wai-o-tapu is the champagne pool

it is about 74 degrees Celsius and it's said that it goes down to the Earth's

crust the reason for the crazy colors is from the minerals which are gold silver

and arsenic and a little bit of mercury not that I many geologists or anything

all this information is actually on the nice pamphlet that they give you when

you walk in here but it sounds a lot better when I read it off to you after

wild tap whoo head on over to hell's gate that is

right hell's gate which is Rotorua's most active geothermal area with

erupting waters pools of boiling mud the largest hot waterfall in the southern

hemisphere and of course the mother volcano could you imagine being the

first human to be walking through the bush then all of a sudden you come

across this for over seven hundred years the married people have regarded Hell's

Gate as a place of healing so I came here to take a geothermal mud bath to

cleanse my sins is mineral enriched geothermal mana you

see this Jared get a close-up of that very fine it's like a silt almost you

can see all my hands it kind of smells sulfur II this is where the geothermal

water is pumped in to these man-made pools the mud is collected from sulfur

Lake and then is transported into these metal holding containers works then

heated up by the water the mud is just fun to play with I mean it is such a

fine texture it's almost like a like a stress ball you keep this on for 20

minutes and I can already feel after the first five minutes that the mud kind of

just relaxes you I highly recommend if you are in Rotorua

A Song of Ice and Fire: Unseen Westeros - Duration: 11:11.

In January of 2019, over 80 new and unseen illustrations from the World of A Song of

Ice and Fire will be on display in Berlin Germany, for a four day exhibit, free to the

public.

These images were created by 40 men and women from around the world, who worked as concept

artists for the Game of Thrones tv show, and the exhibit was organized with the full blessing

and support of George RR Martin.

Those in attendance will also have access to an audio guide, exploring the background

of the regions on display, with unique music composed for each room.

As a preview to the event, we can explore some of the history behind the beautiful locations

revealed in the trailer.

During the reign of King Harwyn Hardhand, the Ironborn went to war with the Kingdom

of the Storm and took possession of the riverlands, to form the Kingdom of Isles and Rivers.

When the King's son Halleck came into power, he chose a modest tower in Fairmarket for

his seat, however when his own son came into power, a new project was undertaken.

Harren the Black, as he was known, sought to build a monument to himself, in the form

of a colossal fortress with walls so tall and thick no army could ever hope to breach

them.

In the Construction of Harrenhal by Sven Sauer & Greig Howitt, we see the five mighty towers

and colossal walls off in the distance, with a long line of people, perhaps workers, approaching.

Desiring the highest hall and tallest towers in all Westeros, King Harren's slaves and

servants laboured for forty years in terrible conditions, with thousands dying before its

completion.

Built along the northern coast of the godseye, it's construction drained the resources

of both the Iron Islands and the Riverlands, and led the King to plunder neigboring kingdoms

for stone, lumber, gold, and laborers.

And yet despite all of his efforts, Harren's dream was never truly realized, as the very

day of the Harrenhal's completion, Aegon the Conqueror of House Targaryen landed an

army in Westeros which included 3 large fire breathing dragons.

When their fiersome armies arrived at the gates of Harrenhal, they were joined by an

alliance of rebel Lords from the Riverlands, who had turned their backs on King Harren,

despising him for all the years of suffering he inflicted upon their lands.

Despite being betrayed and surrounded by enemies, Harren refused to surrender, retreating into

his fortress where he and his sons were burned alive in a torrent of dragonfire.

Due to the horrors commited in its construction and the fate King Harren the Black, many believed

Harrenhal was cursed, and as if to lend further credence to this belief, every family who

ruled the fortress thereafter, eventually presided over the demise of their House, seeing

the hold given to six different families throughout the reign of the Targaryen Kings.

In the Great Tourney at Harrenhal by Sven Sauer, we see a party of knights on their

way to the great fortress in 281 AC, where House Whent was host to an event of enormous

significance for all of Westeros, in which the seeds of civil war were planted.

Though there were a great many interesting occurrences throughout the festivities, the

tournament was remembered primarily for the actions of Prince Rhaegar Targaryen, son of

the Mad King Aerys II, who competed and emerged as Champion, earning the right to crown a

woman of his choice as Queen of Love and Beauty.

Yet much to the surprise of those in attendance, he passed over his own wife Elia Martell,

to give the crown of blue roses to lady Lyanna Stark, the betrothed of Lord Robert Baratheon

of the Stormlands.

This was later described as the moment when all the smiles died, as Rhaegar had in one

action insulted the Houses Martell, Stark and Baratheon.

A year later, Rhaegar was accused of kidnapping Lyanna Stark, and when her brother, the heir

to Winterfell rode to King's Landing seeking vengeance, he and his father were executed

by the Mad King, leading the Starks as well as their allies in House Baratheon and Arryn

to raise their banners in Rebellion.

Built along the rivers of the mountains of the moon, Strongsong by Rene Aigner, depicts

the seat of House Belmore, one of the most powerful families of the Vale.

The Belmore's of Strongsong were sworn bannermen to the Arryns of the Eyrie, who first rose

to power during the Andal invasion of Westeros, thousands of years before the Targaryens took

power.

Though the First Men kingdoms of the area attempted to unite against the invaders, the

Andals under Ser Artys Arryn were eventually victorious, founding the Kingdom of Mountain

and Vale.

Though most of the First Men then surrender and bent the knee to their new king, some

few refused to submit and retreated into the mountains, forming clans who survived by raiding

nearby villages and vulnerable travellers, though their poor weapons and ragged armor

made them less of a threat to the Lord of a mighty fortress like Strongsong.

Built in a land once ruled over by three petty kings, The Golden Tooth by Manuel Grad reveals

the seat of House Lefford, who served as vassals to the Lannisters after they conquered the

Westerlands to form the Kingdom of the Rock.

House Lefford itself traces their lineage back to the marriage of an Andal Warlord to

a Lady of the First Men and under the rule of House Lannisters were charged with the

defense of this vital strategic position, as most armies had to pass by the Golden Tooth

to attempt invasion from the east.

The area also held significance for their gold mines, which helped make the Lannisters

one of the richest families in all of Westeros.

Originally founded as a military colony by the Dragonlord of the Valyrian Freehold,

Tyrosh by Claudio Pilia, depicts the rich and prosperous city which developed upon an

island in the stepstones, becoming a popular center for commerce in the area.

The merchants of Tyrosh grew rich from the slave trade, and continued to thrive even

after the Doom of Valyria, using their wealth to hire mercenaries to fight their wars.

In their time as an independent city state, Tyrosh was involved a great number of conflicts,

such as the unending wars against Lys and Myr for the Disputed lands and their repeated

attempts to conquer the stepstones.

They also defeated an invasion by Volantis, and became a refuge for House Blackfyre of

Westeros, a family determined to their Targaryen kin and claim the Iron Throne of the Seven

Kingdoms.

Once known as a home to a race of diminuative forest dwellers, the Kingdom of Ifequevron

by Chris Sanchez reveals a hauntingly beautiful scene in the ruins of a once thriving settlement.

Named Ifequevron by the Dothraki, meaning those who walk in the woods, the inhabitant

of this northern forest were said to be shy, and gentle folk who wielded powerful magic

may have been kin to the Children of the Forest who once populated Westeros.

Yet while nearby conquerors like the Dothraki respected the Wood Walkers and left them in

peace, the Ibbenese from an island to the North had no such restraint, and eventually

swept through the territory, leaving behind only one ruined settlement, thereafter known

as Vaes Leisi, meaning city of ghosts.

In time, the Ibbenese lost much of what they'd won in their wars with the horselords of the

south, however the wood walkers largely vanished, leaving behind carved trees, haunted grottoes,

and strange silences in their absence.

When the Westerosi adventurer, Bryan of Old Town journeyed aboard the spearshaker to visit

the forested lands of the Ifequevron, the local ibbenese told him stories about the

ancient creatures, claiming that some still existed, and blessed those who left offerings

of leaf, stone and water.

Once known as the festival city, Chroyane by Falk Boje, depicts the richest and most

powerful of the Rhoynar cities who ruled over much of western Essos before the conquest

of the Valyrian Freehold.

Described as olive skinned with dark hair and eyes, the city states of the Rhoynar were

fiercly independent but also united by culture, language and religion, devoted to the worship

of the Goddess Mother Rhoyne.

Though conflict with the Valyrians was avoided for a time, while the Dragonlords conquered

the Andals along the northern and western coasts, war proved inevitable, leading Prince

Garin the Great of Chroyane to unite their Rhoynish armies, raising 250000 warriors accompanied

by powerful water wizards.

Yet in the end they could not contend with dragonfire, seeing their final defeat in the

Second Spice War around 700 years before the Targaryen conquest of Westeros.

With the army defeated, Prince Garin the Great was captured and locked in a golden cage where

he was to be forced to watch his beloved home of Chroyane destroyed.

But legends say Prince Garin resisted, calling upon the Goddess Mother Rhoyne to curse these

lands and destroy the invaders, resulting a violent flood which drowned everyone in

the area.

In the years that followed, the ruins of the sunken city became known as the Sorrows, a

land of darkness and disease, where some say a mysterious Shrouded Lord rules over Stone

Men, praying on those who become lost in the grey mists.

Far to the east of the known world, beyond the Bone Mountains of central Essos, the Bleeding

Sea by Sven Sauer & Greig Howitt, depicts the infamous lake whose waters appear red

due to a type of blooming plant in the area.

Yet despite the modest origins of its coloring, the suggestion of violence in the name of

these waters is not out of place, as stories say it is surrounded by lands of war and wicked

magics.

To the west lay the plains of the Jogos Nhai, ruled over by a nomadic warrior race, famed

for their ferocity in battle, while in the south there is the Golden Empire of Yi Ti,

the most powerful realm east of the bone mountains constantly trying to expand or defend their

borders.

To the north there is secret city of Nefer, believed to be home to necromancers and torturers,

as well as Mussovy, a great grey forest populated by shapechanger and demon hunters.

To the east there are the raider of a cold desert known as the Grey Waste, the Land of

Shrykes roamed by Shrieking monsters, and the city state of K'dath, where the inhabitants

perform horrific rituals to feed the hunger of their mad gods.

How to be creative in difficult times - Duration: 5:28.

Hi friends,

These last weeks have been a lot, haven't they?

How are you doing?

Are you doing okay?

I'm feeling kinda worn down as you might be too.

It's left me not knowing really how to create or what to create.

So I was just sitting in bed the other night doing that thing where you cycle through twitter

youtube and instagram, and then you close the tab for youtube and you open up a new

tab and type in youtube.com without even thinking of it?

Well this time I'm glad I did because Hallease shoutout to hallease, was having a casual

Q&A livestream.

So if you don't already know hallease, she's is putting out like two or three really

beautiful, cinematic, thoughtful vlogs a week So I jumped in the livestream and I asked

her how.

Like how in this time where everybody on youtube is burnt out, and the news got us burnt out,

and we're just drained.

Just empty.

Like how, when the state of the world's so ugly,

do you keep on making beautiful things?

She told me when one thing isn't working she just falls back on other types of content.

Like if you're burnt out on one thing try something else that you're not yet, or at

least something you know you can produce.

So when I'm not telling stories or asking you to participate in democracy,

I like to talk about creative processes, so here we are.

The other advice Hallease gave me was that she likes to take in art—like making a point to

go to museums or just going outside and taking stills with her camera,

just going and finding inspiration in the art of other people.

And that really resonated with me because while ideas are not a finite resource,

they don't come from nowhere.

Never have I been sitting with my notebook in hand and just had a magic bolt of inspiration strike me

from some magic art angel in the sky.

I need to feed it something.

Which means that I've got to put at least as much into my brain as I'm trying to get

out of it.

That means if I want to write I've gotta read.

If I want to play music I've gotta listen to it, if I wanna make videos I've got to

watch other people's videos

I also make a point consume kinds of art that are different than the ones that I make-like,

One thing I really like to do when i'm trying to write a story about my past is I'll make

a playlist about that time in my life.

Like, what was I listening to then?

Or what evokes the same kind of feelings?

What does the background to that story sound like?

Even just experiencing something really dope that somebody else made at least gets me in

the spirit of making something.

So like, I like to read books about making art—here are a couple of my favorites.

Or if I'm really in a rut I'll start with a graphic novel or book of poetry—they're

usually pretty quick to get through but so packed with story and feeling that I'm like

I wish I'd made that.

Wait, let me try and make that.

And that's where you turn creative input into creative output.

Like if there's something you really like in the way someone edited a video, or illustrated

a picture, instead of looking up a tutorial or texting them to ask how they did it, just

try to do it yourself.

I've been doing this a lot over the past several months.

Like you could go through the last 6 months of my videos and be like oh this is

where Taylor was trying to copy this other creator.

Like, go take guesses, in the comments because if you're right I'll be thrilled because

it means I kinda did it.

But only kinda.

Because inevitably, I will mess something up because I don't know what I'm doing,

or I'll change a technique slightly, or parts of my writing style which is I think

kinda the closest to my signature thing at this point will change the way that it all comes across

to you.

you have the place that you're trying to get to and where you are

And you end up in this third really interesting place

The trick is you've gotta do it with a lot of

different people otherwise you never get to that third place.

You just end up becoming part of the genre of people who are all trying to copy the

exact style of whoever is hot right now.

Like if you realllly wanna edit like casey neistat fine, he's not a bad guy to learn

from, just pick him and four other people.

Please.

Because you get to try on all the styles and techniques and collect the ones you like and

suddenly you're your own thing.

Just like everybody else you admire and look up to who think is really unique—they're also a product

of the environment they create for themselves.

And that environment can be filled with twitter notifications and despair.

Or it can be filled with hope, a little rage, and a whole lot of art.

In the comments, tell me what or who inspires you to create.

Or you can tell me who's style you'd like me to take a stab at next.

If you liked this video, you can subscribe, you can share it with someone you think might like it,

You can also support me on Patreon because we're really really close to my goal of starting

a monthly livestream where we all get to workshop projects together and I'll answer your questions

and share my advice about writing. so it's like this, but interactive

So if you want that, there's a link to my patreon.

I will see you SO soon!

Bye!

[clap]

Gamer Glossary | Carry - Duration: 1:35.

Welcome to Gamer Glossary, where we break down the phrases and memes seen throughout the gaming industry.

Today's episode: Carry

One of the most crucial terms in MOBAs like League of Legends or Dota 2, carry gets tossed around a lot during

streams, but what does that term actually mean, and what are the different types of carries?

Generally speaking, a carry is a hero designed to get stronger and stronger as the game progresses,

until late-game when they can literally carry a whole team with their power.

Much like idiots chasing a wheel of cheese rolling down a hill,

carries start slow and just keep on picking up speed as time goes on.

Carries late-game monsters capable of changing the tide of a game almost single-handedly,

but there are generally two distinct types of carries: AD carries and AP carries.

AD carries are attack-damage carries

These are heroes whose primary strength is physical damage, which gets incredibly strong late-game.

Their physical attacks can decimate enemy heroes in just a few hits and they have massive late game damage potential.

AP carries are ability-power carries.

These are the more magic-based carries that typically deal out huge damage from spells and abilities.

Often times, they are the burstiest kind of hero in a MOBA, but they have to keep their distance because they have so few defensive options.

So the next time you hear someone announce that a player has picked a carry hero, just sit back and wait for the mayhem.

That's all for this episode of Gamer Glossary. Thank you for watching, and as always another entry is on the way.
