Waching daily Oct 7 2018

you are now listening to the IELTS podcast learn from tutors and ex-examiners who are

masters of IELTS preparation your host, Ben Worthington hello there, IELTS podcast listeners

in this episode, Vera shares how she passed first time, her preparation strategies, and

where she got all her listening tests remember she did about a hundred, almost a hundred

listening tests okay this is a great interview and thanks for listening so Vera can I ask

you how did you prepare for the other parts of the exam, like the listening, the reading,

and speaking?

okay so first, I you know, I did -- I took some tests I mean, mock tests myself I mean

not in some you know, in some schools and I understood that I would have -- that listening

and writing parts you know, were the most difficult for me and then I focused on writing

and listening and on the listening, it's kind of weird, but actually I have problems with

listening even in my native language because sometimes I cannot catch the meaning of songs

in Russian even, and that is why I'm not really attentive and I'm sorry so that is why it

was my weak point and I needed to practice a lot and actually, I tried to yesterday,

I tried to count how many listenings I had done before the test, and I think I had done

almost maybe 100 actually, yes, right just yes and it was crazy because you know before

okay maybe in okay, in -- I'm just counting in April, May, June, and July, I did at least

one or two tests per day and then in August, actually I took two weeks off I took a vacation

and you know, I dedicated two weeks only to preparations I prepared just 24 to 7 and maybe

and I did maybe five or six listenings per day wow I know that it's kind of crazy but

still I need it and it's crazy it was crazy actually I don't advice to do that because

after the tests actually I had some ear issues because of the headphones I had some you know,

sore ears I can say wow you know, I like to go to the extremes it's just like you know,

personality okay and then so and I was happy and you know the funny thing was when I went

just – the test was finished the written part I called my husband and said that you

know, I screwed up the listening part I was sure that I screwed it up because they didn't

have the headphones they had the speakers and the speakers were only on one wall oh

just only on one side yeah and actually in one part of the listening, as you know it

consists of two parts and in the third part I just completely -- also the voice of the

speaker it was kind of loud and you know and it had you know some echo and that is why

I wasn't sure I wasn't sure in that part but still I got 8 and I was lucky to have wow,

that's an awesome score, that's an awesome score thank you yeah well done and actually

– and you completely deserve it because like a test a day for two months and then

you upped it up to five or six tests a day that is amazing that's pure dedication but

I love the perspective that you brought to this because it's like okay I'm taking – use

my two weeks holiday, and I'm going to lose these two weeks, but in the long term, in

the big picture of things if this gets me to Canada then two weeks is nothing you know,

if I can get to Canada in two weeks, it's absolutely nothing in the big, in the grand

scale of things so yeah very, very smart there Vera very smart yeah, yeah and actually for

speaking preparation as for writing of course I participated in your brilliant course and

yesterday, I threw all my you know, rough drafts and I counted them I nearly had written

nearly I think maybe 50 or 60 essays wow yeah, I was shocked myself just you know, writing

every day, at least I tried to write and then also as for speaking and reading actually

I did -- I didn't think that it was hard for me and I think that was kind of my mistake

or maybe not because I didn't get you know, the highest score for them I scored 7.5 both

for speaking and reading and I think that this reading it was something I don't know

I don't know how I managed to screw that up because I was preparing with academic tests

like you know, however I needed general I took general the general test but there are

more academic just materials right yeah yeah and I used to you know score at least 8 at

least 8, but I don't know what happened on the test maybe I was anxious maybe nervous

I don't know and as for speaking also actually I'm not very satisfied with my speaking because

I think that I could do better but okay I got you know, I think the problem with speaking

was just that I might – the topic the cue card was not really you know, great for me

and I just – but what's the cue card?

Oh it was about animals it was about something could you list -- it's something about an

interesting animal I don't know when I got that card I was really confused because interesting

animal, interesting, the word combination was for me a little bit weird because there

you know, and the funny thing was that before the test, I had prepared for the reading part

and I read, had read a text about fireflies and I don't know why on the test I decided

that it would be a great idea to tell them about the fireflies I don't know why which

is I think so it was very weird though it was a disaster the question that yeah which

is such a disastrous thing and I know it's like I should – it sounds like it – it

sounds like a logical strategy you've just read all this information about fireflies

and then they asked you to talk about an interesting animal but why didn't it work out? were you

not just that interested? did you not have enough material to talk about?

I don't know I felt that the examiner stopped me just long before two minutes passed and

I don't know I just I felt it felt like I didn't speak for two minutes I don't know

why actually now it's still a mystery for me you know and you know before because before

the test, of course I also you know prepared for the speaking part I booked a few lessons

with different teachers on my TOEFL I think I'm not going to promote it here but still

it's still with you if you're lucky so let's – there's plenty okay and one

of the teachers told me that I could score even 8.5 that my -- that I speak well that

I had that I have good pronunciation and good you know, I'm understandable, I'm capable

to speak at length I have a good vocabulary I was you know, I was really so encouraged

but what – I don't know I hope that I speak well because I enjoy speaking English

so and that is why so I don't know what went wrong but okay but I have a suspicion and

I have a suspicion that if you went back to the exam and did it again, maybe in a week's

time or even like maybe in a couple of weeks and you do another listening test, another

reading test, another writing, you know, and sort of like warm back up again, I think this

time if you did it well, the second time, if you do when you do it again, that now you're

more familiar with the exam you know and your -- it won't be as nerve-racking because you'll

be more familiar with the settings, you'll be more confident I think if you were willing

to do it again, you would probably see slightly better marks I imagine, I imagine, but it's

a lot of money just to you know for maybe a half -- half a grade, half a band score

increase so yeah but fortunately you've fulfilled your goal anyway you passed everything

first time no, is that right?

yeah, yeah it was my first time yeah actually it wasn't thank you you know actually I'm

not -- for me money I cannot say that it's not important of course, it's important but

for me the main concern you know when if we just you know considering the second attempt,

for me, my health is more important because you know when the exam started, I could hear

my heart beat louder than their text you know actually I thought that I would have a heart

attack like I said earlier so this is wise for me and my husband he said that okay please

don't because you know now in express entry we just -- we don't have you know the highest

-- the highest score and that is why he decided to seek the exam in order to get some additional

you know points wow and yeah, and now I'm learning French also to maybe seek TEF so

I'm not sure just but still you know, I've always wanted to learn French because I can

see that you know it's very beautiful and all that stuff so it is why IELTS is you know

re-seeking IELTS is not an option for me actually if anything but it the last thing that I would

consider to do in order to you know -- to increase my point got you okay okay in express

entry okay I'm sure you know and to a kind of I'm get -- I get anxious very easily yeah

yeah -- you have – emotional – you have a lot of -- I think I have similar traits

like if I do something I go in for 100% and I get obsessed with it – yes and then I

do it and then I walk away and I don't want to see it again for another two months or

so yes yeah that's -- I think you – weren't you born in June?

No?

Sorry?

Weren't you born in June?

I think that Gemini they have and then it be –ah okay no, no, no I was born in February

is it – okay – yeah, yeah and they say that is the trait of my – of Gemini that

we are just – and get obsessed when I like something, when I need something, I can just

you know, get isolated from the other words as you say and get obsessed with the idea

and nobody -- I even can't speak to people you know sometimes I'm just you know I look

at them and then just to – okay yeah, well me and my friends we got a -- we call it something

we don't relate it to Gemini but we call it shiny object, shiny objects syndrome where

you see like a shiny object and you've just got to go over there and everything else becomes

irrelevant and it was so obvious the other the day, we were on the bikes with my friend

and then I saw this tree and it was just full of apples and I just jumped off the bike and

I was like, apples I'm like and I say this kind of just drop everything, and just go

for the what obviously -- whatever you know, whatever the shiny object is or whatever's

taking my interest, but we're getting – again, we're going a bit off topic we're distracted

by shiny objects but what I wanted to say was regarding the listening test, that's it

where did you get a hundred listening exams from? which is like -- oh I'm sorry but I

used YouTube there are many channels right okay, okay yeah they post you know, videos

every day and I should admit that some parts they come compiled the media of different

you know, from different books and sometimes you come across the parts that you had done

before but still that's okay because you cannot remember every single detail and then later

also you know, amenable and it's okay I think so YouTube is the source and it helped

me a lot okay cool yeah and of course, and of course I've worked through all the Cambridge

books all the 13 books wow okay and so that was very – made it so maybe a month and

then I had to buy something else just on a mission though, just on a mission right ah

yeah okay I could just imagine I need IELTS materials ah okay all right but you know when

you really – I want to you know to assure everybody that when you really want something,

and when you really need something, you will find the way definitely that's true you

will find the sources, you will find the people, and sometimes you know I believe in that law

of attraction when you just believe in something and usually the funny thing is that you know,

you have to visualize this you say also they – your success, in order to be successful

in the future and when I was listening to your podcasts and some interviews, I used

to think okay when I pass the exam maybe I will do this thing really in this world of

course you know, I – there are such books one of my favorite books is written by Richard

Bach, and it's called something like illusions or something it's about the Messiah a very

cool book and he says in that book a character says that in order to attract something into

your life you should imagine something passionately that you really want it in every little detail

so this is why I didn't manage to you know to imagine a certificate it wasn't trying

the you know, something that I – okay eager speakers okay it – there wasn't much behind

those but I imagined the communication with you you know, the way I could be useful for

your for your students and that motivated me also so wow that is amazing – it is fun

yeah, that's amazing it's so inspiring as well that's fantastic and you may be surprised

but there's another student who did it a few like about a year ago now or two years ago

and he says yeah I think his name is Kevin it's just like yeah, I just imagined myself

being on this podcast and yeah sharing with the other students how I did it and it's wow

that's really inspiring and I love the way that you adopted this visualization because

a lot of people they find it quite hard to do you know and they find it quite hard to

believe but I used it and I've used it in the past, and I'm currently using it for something

else and yeah, also while we're on the topic, I mean I find that the visualization works

better with meditation and meditation using an app for the meditation that's really helpful

as well as I mentioned I get distracted easily with the shiny objects syndrome so having

the ability to sit down and focus on doing something is an absolute asset and meditation

helps me with that so yeah okay so Vera, just before we finish because I have to finish

in a few minutes okay do you have anything that you would actually tell us the result

what you got for the writing because I think we've mentioned all the results except for

writing okay okay I've got 7 7?

I got 7 for my writing 7 yeah super okay thank you and it was 7.5 for the speaking, 7.5 for

reading and 8 for the listening?

Yeah awesome well done, Vera well done with those scores thank you fantastic so before

we finish, what would you say to anybody who is on the fence and who hasn't decided about

joining the course what would you say to those people?

I would say to them that if they struggle you know they should okay it's not the right

word you should I think that you would find it useful for you if you struggle with the

structure and with you know with the ideas almost the main component of a successful

essay actually I was -- I could say that at the beginning, I was also very you know, skeptical

yeah about the idea of an online course to be effective and all that stuff also some

people okay let's face the music they're afraid of frauds okay on the internet on the

internet and I can say that I'm 100% you know not interested and not decided in the you

know in this course and I'm just -- I found it really helpful and I think that if you

participate in that and if you really you know the other important thing that not – there

are no teachers in the world who would you know who would make you successful it's your

effort, it's your work that can make you successful and I think that this course is designed really

smart and it can provide you with that valuable information in order to be successful and

also I should say that it doesn't teach you how to speak English I mean some basic grammar,

some basic rules, some vocabulary you should already have some -- you should already have

a good command of English at least like intermediate level and in order to you know to be successful

let's be frank okay yeah but still this course needs you know, structurizes your knowledge

and gives you the structure, gives you the structure I mean the most important thing

here and combined with you hard work, with your desire to you know, to be successful

I think it will work yeah it's my own opinion I would totally, totally agree with you there

like if you're coming in with a band 5 and you take the course thinking you're going

to walk out with a band 7, it's probably not going to happen you know it's probably

not going to happen yeah however, if you if you come in and as you say, you've got a good

control of the English language maybe a half a band off your score or maybe a full band

and you're willing to put in a lot of work but the onus is on you you can't buy the

course and just sit at home watching Netflix you know it's not going to happen you're still

going to have the same grade as before you do need to buy the course, do the work, do

the exercises, follow the modules and as you said if you put the effort in, there's going

to be you will get the -- you will get the results yeah, I totally I totally agree with

you there Vera and I'd just like to say to all the listeners, 100 listening exams

that is outrageous, it's awesome nearly, nearly okay nearly approximately approximately I

mean, maybe you know, 99 maybe not 100 99 99 that's pathetic that's pathetic Vera

I was so disappointed I thought you were a winner I'd get a badge on this okay that

is awesome it just shows the level of determination and as I said before okay right perspective

you know the perspective, putting in all the work in these three or four months now to

reap the benefits in the future you know to get yes to your goals and also can I just

-- the last remark for me you know I'm a working mom with a toddler and so that is why if you

don't have children, if you just come home after your work and just you have all the

time just for yourself you have no excuse oh gosh yes you know I like that so this is

why yeah, I think that also so there's everything – go ahead sorry, everything was what?

Everything is possible when we are dedicated and when you just know that every day's part

is just every day matters every day matters you should do a bit every day that matters

really you should be consistent with your studies absolutely, absolutely that's a

really good advice there Vera okay so thank you so much you've been a massive inspiration

for all the listeners and for myself thank you really really just listening to you and

just yeah hearing your situation, your goals, and I'm getting reminded about the power

of visualization and just the motivation it's yeah, it's really inspiring you should be

very proud of yourself and yeah never forget all the work you put in for this Vera it's

awesome thank you very much very impressive okay thank you I would like to say thank you

for your genius I think it wouldn't be just something you know pathetic to say you're

genius I think that is brilliant just your course and I think that you -- it's worth

participating in so thank you thank you, Ben you're welcome, Vera you're welcome and just

one last thing to the listeners why not set this as a goal to pass IELTS to get the band,

your target band score and come and join us on the call maybe we could have all three

of us Vera again and that's not – thanks for listening to ieltspodcast.com

10 habits of successful women! - Duration: 10:32.

MAIAH: Hi, I'm Maiah, and this is called…

Wow. It's been a while since the last time I was standing here.

But I had to take care of a lot of things first.

We'll talk about it later.

Meanwhile, I will take my makeup off using my Neutrogena Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes

(or wipes, depending on how you call it)

I partnered with them because they were who understood best the story I wanted to tell.

Wait, wait, wait…

Hi, I'm Maiah and this is called Visto Bueno.

Visto Bueno returns today

And to all of you who don't know what it is

Visto Bueno was a guide for girls from everywhere in the world to learn how to dress

do their makeup, understand their bodies, but overall, feeling good about themselves.

Those girls are grown-ups now.

They are women, professionals, women who love fitness

women who love to eat tasty and healthy

women who do their makeup in 5 minutes because they never have enough time.

They are women who stretch every little penny.

They are multitasking women like you and me, a little lost but capable of doing anything.

Visto Bueno returns because now more than ever we need a survival handbook.

First things first.

Humans are habits animals, so creating good ones is vital to keep it up in our lives.

Ok, so what is it with this door...

We're kind of wasting time here, right?

Next!

Let's move on!

Let's start with our largest organ: the skin

Wash and exfoliate your skin with a gentle exfoliator that you can use every other day

This is to avoid that dead cells stay inside your pores and cause blackheads or acne.

The product that never is missing in my daily routine is sunscreen.

There's no excuse for not using one.

Not only will help you with how your skin looks but even more important

it could avoid any medical problem that could end up in things like cancer.

Every new season of Visto Bueno will include an episode dedicated to skin care

especially for those women who don't have too much time…

I'm late.

Breakfast is maybe the most important meal of the day.

If you start off your day skipping breakfast and eating bad from the morning on

chances are you won't be able to keep a balanced diet the rest of the day.

I like to eat a have a small but nutritious breakfast that contains the 3 most essential macronutrients.

To me, that first meal should be light, because I work out immediately after eating it.

Here I'm making crepes with coconut flour and homemade banana jelly, but don't worry about it.

Every new season of Visto Bueno will have a full episode dedicated to nutrition

with more information and recipes to eat tasty and healthy.

I can't start my day without my coffee.

Since I bought a coffee machine that let me make my foam

I never wanted to buy a cappuccino with almond milk at a coffee shop again.

First, the almond milk they use in coffee shops usually is loaded with sugar.

Second: my coffee tastes better.

Besides ever since I stopped buying coffee at coffee shops, I've saved a lot of money.

Let's talk about money.

I drink one or two coffees each day.

A cappuccino costs around $4

So we're talking about $8 every day.

$8 x 30 days are $240 every month just in coffee.

Little things like these add up, and these little things are the reason why our budget fades away.

Today I've got zero time to work out so I'll do a quick workout at home.

On days like these I train from 30 to 45 minutes and try to do routines that work the most muscle the better

besides including some cardio

so that I can add value to the little window of time super busy women like you, and I have.

I do a simple circuit with several exercises.

I repeat every exercise for a minute and then rest 20 to 30 seconds in between.

I like to do any variation of planks because not only they work the core

but also lower back, arms, shoulders… and patience

Don't worry if you are not getting everything now.

Every season of Visto Bueno will have an episode dedicated to fitness…

Meanwhile, hold it… hold it…

RANDOM WORDS OF WISDOM

YOU DESERVE A HOT SHOWER AFTER WORKING OUT

HOT WATER FREES MUSCULAR TENSION

For every day what I usually do is just a corrective makeup to highlight my attributes.

Typically I correct using

foundation, concealer, contour, and give my skin some life again using bronzer, blush.

Then I use just a little bit of the same bronzer as eyeshadow.

To add a little more depth to my eyes.

Of course, I do my eyebrows. I never go out without doing my eyebrows.

Then my eyelashes, some highlighter, lipstick and there you go…

The keyword for this kind of makeup is time.

We've got to be efficient with the little time we've got.

It's a makeup I do every day to do everything, and it doesn't take more than 10 minutes to do it.

Simple makeup techniques

and advanced makeup techniques for going out

or going to a special event will be present in this new Visto Bueno

because I'll have the help of makeup professionals who will teach us the best techniques.

Now… Let's get dressed!

What I wear always depend on the activities I've got during my day.

Today I've got a business meeting with an investor, and then I'll do an interview to a super businesswoman

so I should look both professional and comfy, as well as ready for the camera.

Option one is a white blazer with a black top and shorts.

I love this look because though the blazer makes me look more professional

the short shows not only my personality but my legs.

I like to hide my arms when I show my legs and vice-versa.

Option two is this black dress with red print.

I love the fact that it's got a feminine vibe in it

and being very light, fresh and perfect for the hot and Californian endless summer.

My third option is this blue velvet jumper.

Here it looks darker than what is but it's more like a royal blue.

It's a very light fabric, and since it doesn't have sleeves

I've got the chance to show off my arms and being honest, I work on them to show them off, so…

I chose this option because it made me feel comfortable for both activities

and gave me that edgy touch that I love when I go to work meetings

so they know they shouldn't mess with me.

I've just finished my meeting.

Everything went really well.

If they go better, I could share more details with you soon.

Now I go to do an interview…

I won't do an Interview; I actually will interview Carolina.

She's the creative director and owner of Garota

and we will talk about her life and everything she does because she's a real superwoman.

So I know we will learn a lot from her.

But before going to Carolina's store, I've got to eat something.

I usually bring my food with me, but today I couldn't even pack my lunchbox.

You can find options for everyone when you're on the street.

I always chose meat, rice, and vegetables.

It's the perfect combination for me.

I always ask for the dressing on the side so I can control how much fat I eat.

This bread is delicious, but today I'd rather skip it.

I always drink water.

Not only it's the most healthy beverage you can drink, but also it's the cheapest option. Here its price is $0.

Yeah, I'm like you.

It looks like I've got my life in order but I'm just really trying to put the pieces of my life together.

I'm not expert in makeup, fashion, fitness or business.

I'm only an expert in taking off my makeup.

That's why I use the cleansing wipes most recommended by professional makeup artists

Not only they take off even the heaviest makeup, but they also leave your skin hydrated

They've got the perfect formula to take off even the most stubborn mascara without irritating your eyes.

You can have the Neutrogena makeup remover cleansing towelettes just next to your bed

in your bathroom, in the car, in your gym bag, literally everywhere

so there's no excuse for going to bed without taking off your makeup.

So why should you watch Visto Bueno if this woman doesn't have a clue about everything.

Well, fortunately, I'm not alone.

I'll have a little help from my friends.

Garota is a clothing brand that grew up from a 10 x 10 feet space in Venezuela

to have stores in Miami and Los Angeles.

Carolina Silva came from Venezuela with a clear vision in mind and work on it every day

while she's also a wife, mom, fashion blogger and still has time to have a fantastic figure.

She's one of the guest stars from the new season of Visto Bueno.

We learned a lot from her, but you'll have to wait

until you watch the full episode dedicated exclusively to her journey.

Here's a little sample of what is coming next.

You've got to have the guts.

Sleepless nights, stress, all of that it's part of being a businesswoman and it's the hardest part.

When you've got a problem and can't fix it because it's beyond your control.

Yes, it's a complicated life, most of the time.

But we like it!

Yes, nobody's got the formula to a perfect life, but it's going to be fun trying to figure it out.

It doesn't matter what Internet says or TV says.

Nobody says it's going to be easy being a woman who can do anything.

But even when we fail we learn something.

Never before have we had so many tools to try it at least out.

It doesn't matter what country you're in, the color of your skin

what language you speak, things that make you vibe.

There's a movement that's shaking off the world.

A movement of superwomen who need Visto Bueno back.

So, thank you Neutrogena for joining me to share this secret.

In the end, what connects all women

the successful ones and us trying to be successful

it's how proud we are of the journey.

This was mine.

Join me to discover what is yours.

My weird, embarrassing phobia - Duration: 6:43.

Phobias are...

interesting aren't they?

Some of em kinda make sense..

like heights

some of em don't really make sense..

like spiders.

They can't hurt you they're just

'Lil

'lil leggy boys

I don't have many phobias

I'm fine with heights

don't find clowns particularly creepy

and I find snakes and spiders pretty cute.

Particularly pythons with their cute lil puppy face

'dawwww

But I do have one phobia

one quite embarrassing phobia

that's been rUINING MY LIFE

okay it's actually more of a mild inconvenience

but I still wish I didn't have it

I have a fear..

of...

dead bugs

not live ones

just dead ones

It is.. incredibly pathetic

to be afraid of something that can't hurt you..

because it's DEAD

And this isn't even just a mild discomfort either

No

as soon as I see a dead spider in my room

my heart starts racing

and I instinctively try to get as far away from it as possible

And it's just bugs too.

Other animals..like

seeing a pigeon that got hit by a car or something

is pretty sad and I don't like seeing it

but it doesn't initiate this flight response I get from bugs

I guess it's the way that their bodies curl up all crookedly but

in that case

I can understand why it would be something you don't really wanna look at

but I don't understand what causes such an extreme sense of discomfort in me

I believe it all started this one time

where a butterfly had gotten into my room somehow

it was blue and really pretty

and I was like "aw."

Then it started to head towards the window

and in the window on the outside

was a biiiiiig spiderweb

sooooo the butterfly got caught in the spider web

and the more it tried to escape

the more it got stuck..

I freaked the HECK out

I actually surprised myself at how freaked out I was

the next day the butterfly was still there..

and I had to get it down if I didn't wanna keep looking at it

working up the courage to whack away the spider web was…

Jeez

it really affected me

even just talking about it now makes my skin crawl

I'm pretty sure that's the event that maybe caused my phobia

I don't recall any time before that where I had this problem

and if I formed a connection with the butterfly only for it to immediately…

Yno..

I guess that makes sense

But that wasn't the end of my traumatic experiences…

A year or something later I had…

THE WASP PROBLEM

So when I was living with my mum a few years back I had..

kind of a weird experience one summer

that amplified my phobia to extreme levels

Now, I'm not inherently afraid of wasps

I learned that if I just chill they'll go away.

When they start getting all up in my face is when I'm a bit like

"k dude pls back up"

cause I am afraid of them stinging

I've never been stung by a wasp

but I wonder if that makes me more scared of being stung than I should be

because maybe my brain is greatly exaggerating my prediction

of how painful a wasps sting really is

So, anyways

I'd be sitting at my computer and a wasp would just

appear in my room

And I didn't know how

The windows were closed

and I looked everywhere for some kind of hole

but I genuinely couldn't find any way that they were getting in

It was as though they were just..

teleported there

Like some wizard was just like

"Hmmm who's day should I ruin today…

ah yeah, perfect"

And it was as if they knew about my phobia because

the wasps would fly around in my window for a bit

then DIE

And I'd have to get rid of them..

And I did

Very reluctantly

But eventually I couldn't handle it

so I left them for a while

but then the amount of dead wasps on my windowsill

piled up until there were like 20 of them

that was a bad idea

In fact

that was probably the worst thing I could've done

cause I'm pretty sure wasps smell the scent of their dead buddies

and go and investigate

thus resulting in even more wasps on my windowsill

So at this point you're thinking

there's a nest somewhere right?

There has to be.

I thought so too.

So my mum called the exterminators

and those guys searched everywhere

- nothing.

This was very bad news for me

I thought this whole thing would finally be over

but instead I was just left more confused

Luckily though they did stop eventually

I think this went on for about 3 weeks

until the wasps just suddenly stopped coming in

and I never had that problem ever again

It was pretty bizarre

and felt like some higher power was teasing me over my stupid phobia

or trying to make me get over it by making me face my fear

Yeah…

that didn't work

In fact

Im almost positive that it made it waaaaay worse.

So, I initially didn't want to make this video

because I was scared that people who didn't like me

would send me a bunch of pictures of dead insects

but I've since learned that pictures don't really bother me

it's only when they're right in front of me when I get..

Y'no

It probably has something to do with having to get rid of it eventually

Once I saw a TV show about fears

and this one woman on it had a fear of knees

And i was like

WOW

how can anyone be afraid of something so ridiculous?

IT CANT HURT YOU

ITS A KNEE.

THANKS YOUNGER ME THATS PROBABLY EXACTLY WHY I HAVE THIS NOW

IT'S KARMA

Also, I tried to find out if this phobia was like a legitimate thing

Yno so you guys wouldn't be able to make fun of me

But all i could find was like 2 or 3 random forum posts of people being like

"yo is anyone else irrationally afraid of dead insects??"

and the reply's just

"uh, no. you're an idiot."

It's nice to know that there's at least more than just me with this weird phobia..

but it's still incredibly embarrassing.

So please tell me your strange phobias in the comments.

Please.

I need to feel validated at the expense of others.

Thank you for watching

I have been Chipflake

there are two dead crane flies in my room

Please help me.

China Secretly Places Microchips in U.S. Hardware & Chick-fil-A's Birthday Surprise | The Daily Show - Duration: 4:24.

China.

They make all of our computers, and it turns out

they've been throwing in a little something extra.

A shocking new report details how China used a tiny chip--

about the size of a grain of rice--

to infiltrate U.S. tech giants as early as 2015.

The chips allowed the attackers to create a stealth doorway

into any network that included the altered machines.

Investigators found that the chips

had been inserted in factories

run by manufacturing subcontractors in China.

Wow, really?

China has gone too far.

First they hide little notes in my cookies, and now this?

(laughter and applause)

And you realize this isn't about hacking our passwords.

No, that's basic. What they're doing

is they're putting tainted microchips

into the hardware at the factory,

which means there's nothing we can do. Passwords don't help.

I mean, we could move the factories to the U.S.,

but then it's like, "Introducing the new iPhone,

only $6,000."

And then we're like, "Yeah, tell me again

"about the phone with the chip in it.

I'll take that one. I'll take that one."

And here's my thing. If being hacked is inevitable,

which it feels like in this day and age,

maybe we shouldn't try to protect our information

on our devices anymore, right?

I mean, thinking about this, instead what we should do

is just surround our real information

with a bunch of other junk as a distraction.

You know, to throw hackers off the trail.

That's my pitch. That's what I do on my iPhone.

All right? Yeah, no, no.

I-I'm not gonna stop taking dick pics,

but what I also do is...

what I also do is I add a lot of other dick photos.

Yeah. That way if you ever hack my phone,

you don't know which one is mine.

It works. It really works.

(cheering and applause)

I'll-I'll give you a clue, though.

It's the one with the dimples.

(laughs) Moving on.

Last week, we shared a story

about people getting into accidents

because they were taking selfies while hiking.

But now we're learning that people die taking selfies

while doing all sorts of things.

The Washington Post reports on a study

that says more than 250 people worldwide have died

while taking selfies in the last six years.

News reports were analyzed

by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences.

The leading cause was drowning.

That was followed by transportation-related deaths

and falling from heights.

Okay, I get falling,

but how are people drowning while taking a selfie?

I don't... I mean, like, what,

do they fall into the water while taking the se...?

Or worse, are they underwater trying to get a selfie

and then, like, dying, because they can't get the perfect pic?

Like, is it just people underwater, like...

(cheering and applause)

What are you doing?!

In other news, if you take care of yourself and eat right,

you can live to be 100

and then you can eat whatever you want.

A Chick-fil-A throws a surprise 100th birthday party

for one of their top customers.

Until last year, Stephen Bellissimo stopped

by the Florida restaurant nearly every day for 20 years,

earning him free Chick-fil-A for life.

Mr. Steve, we want to give you Chick-fil-A

for the rest of your life.

So, no more 50% off.

You're getting free.

-I come here to Chick-fil-A free? -Mm-hmm. Yep.

-My God. -An-Anytime you want.

That is the best gift I could ever receive!

(laughter)

I'm gonna-- Instead of coming once a week,

now I'm coming every day!

-Aw, man! -(cheering and applause)

That is the cutest thing ever.

100 years old. He's grateful about that.

I wonder, is that the secret to living to 100?

Yeah? If it is, someone get Ruth Bader Ginsburg

some curly fries right away. Right away.

(cheering and applause)

I will say, I will say,

it's kind of a dick move from Chick-fil-A here, right?

Like, they're giving him lifetime free food at 100?

Because, let's be honest, there's an understanding

that he's gonna leave soon, right? Yeah?

Like, I hope he lives another 30 years.

I hope he lives another 30 years,

and then Chick-fil-A managers are like,

"Okay, that's it. We're cutting you off.

"You should've been dead by now. Get back into your car.

What do you mean you ran here? Who are you?"

Why The 2018 Midterms F*cking Matter | AJ+ - Duration: 8:49.

IT'S ELECTION SEASON SO LISTEN UP!

This is the most important election in our lifetime.

I mean, definitely mine, but probably so many other people's as well.

Every single election is portrayed as the most important election of all time.

I will say, for the 2018 midterm elections,

it really is the most important election of all time.

Yes, the midterms,

they fall between every presidential election, and we got one coming up.

The media generally portrays midterms as the day Americans have a chance

to send the guy in the White House a message:

either this finger or this finger.

But on November 6th, there's SO much more you're voting for that affects your everyday life,

more than any Russian collusion or pee-pee tape

or the latest, dumbest tweet.

[sighs] I'm still on covfefe.

Hey guys, I'm Kate, and this Sunday I'm giving you a cheat sheet

on the various things you might be voting for this November 6th,

from attorney general to senator to water board,

So his that subscribe button and let's get into it.

You've probably heard about the so-called blue wave,

in which Democrats are predicted to take back a bunch of seats in the midterm elections

because President Trump is …

not a popular person.

Well, there's no wave if there's no voters,

and traditionally, midterms are where democracy goes to die.

In the last midterm election, in 2014, the U.S. had the lowest voter turnout in 70 years.

In fact, look at this graph on voting rates since 1990.

These peaks are turnout rates during presidential elections.

And these valleys are midterms.

It's basically a doomsday graph in the shape of Bart Simpson's haircut.

Coincidentally, Bart Simpson ...

probably doesn't vote in the midterms, either.

The people that DO vote tend to be older, whiter and Republican-er.

And when it comes to 2018, a recent survey found

that only 28% of young people said they would certainly vote.

You guys ...

When voter turnout is low, it just means that people who don't have our same interests,

who don't have our same agenda and who don't have our same vision for our communities

are making decisions on your behalf.

Oh, and don't forget, everyone's ballot out there is going to be a little bit different

depending on where you live, so consider this video a primer for future elections, too.

OK, let's start with your national offices: First, the U.S. House of Representatives.

These are the people that represent your congressional district on Capitol Hill.

In November, no matter where you live, you will be voting on a U.S. rep.

Every single one of the 435 districts are up for a vote.

For Democrats to win control of the House, only about two dozen need to flip

– and these districts, some say, are on track to do so.

So why should you care?

Well, the U.S. House of Representatives is the chamber that begins

~*~*IMPEACHMENT PROCEEDINGS*~*~

But more importantly, the House passes federal laws.

And for the last two years, Trump has had his way with a majority Republican House.

So with a different party in control than the president,

his policy wish list, like tax reform and military spending,

wouldn't necessarily be an automatic pass.

And also, whichever party is in control sets the agenda.

Well, there are so many laws, so many easy laws

that our representatives in Congress can pass and can put forth to be discussed and debated.

The people that you decide to put in Congress right now, they're going to decide our lives

for the next however many years they're in office.

Then we have senators.

Thirty-three states will be holding U.S. Senate elections in November.

And experts think Tennessee and Texas could elect their first Democratic senators in decades,

and that seats in Missouri and Florida could flip to Republicans.

Why does that matter?

Because senators also pass laws,

and they also are the ones that confirm nominees to the cabinet and the Supreme Court.

[siren]

They also deal with possible ...

~*~*IMPEACHMENT PROCEEDINGS*~*~.

Cool. So those are the federal races, and those are ones that are covered a lot in the mainstream media.

But the reality is, these lawmakers' day-to-day actions

don't usually affect your day-to-day lives.

That's where state officials come in.

First, you got your governors.

Thirty-six states will hold election for governors on November 6th.

And whether it's union-busting in Wisconsin or slashing healthcare in Iowa,

every state's election is happening on the backdrop of some pretty important issues.

"Here in the state of California, currently you have two candidates, one Democrat, one Republican,

who have opposing views on immigration.

And if you look at what happened in California over the last couple of years,

we were the state that provided driver's licenses to undocumented immigrants,

we were also the state that provided in-state tuition for undocumented residents

and now, as of this past year, we are now officially a sanctuary state.

I'm super excited about Stacey Abrams in Georgia,

who will be the first black woman to ever serve as governor in the entire U.S.

Stacey Abrams wants to make sure that we dismantle the ways in which black people

are being overcriminalized in Georgia's criminal justice system.

The race that I'm most excited for right now is the governor race in Florida, definitely.

Andrew Gillum has been with us from the start, Parkland.

Then there's the state legislatures. 2018 is a big year for these races,

because 82% of those seats are up for a vote,

and state lawmakers are the people that set your state's agenda on things like marijuana, abortion, the budget

or whether or not it's illegal to throw poop out of a moving car

which is a real law in the state of Oregon, for some reason.

Illinois, where Chicago is,

there are really strict gun laws.

But in the states around Illinois, there are not strict gun laws.

So a lot of the guns that come into Chicago and cause the gun violence there

come from the states around them with lax gun laws.

So if you can influence your state legislature to put gun reform laws in place in your state,

then you make your state a safer place, and therefore states around you a safer place.

Before we go to more local races, let's do one more state-level office

you probably haven't thought a lot about: state attorney general.

Thirty of them will be voted on this November.

Attorneys general are the top legal officer in every state,

often called the people's lawyer.

They work on everything from environmental laws, labor protection, consumer rights and, perhaps most notably,

they deal with criminal justice.

They get to decide where money goes in relationship to policing and police,

but they also get to determine what is criminal,

what is not criminal, what the sentencing guidelines are.

While we're on the topic of police reform, let's go more local and go to county sheriffs.

The sheriff oversees what's happening with police and law enforcement in your county.

That's, like, really the community you live in.

And how your sheriff chooses to work with ICE

says a lot about whether your community is resisting or carrying out deportations.

The sanctuary state bill that was recently passed in California

essentially said that the state was not going to use any of its state or local resources to cooperate with ICE.

Certain sheriffs across the state have complained that this new bill has made their jobs difficult.

You have to ask yourself as a voter, do I want this person representing me?

And do I want this person leading the charge in making sure that my community is safe?

District attorneys and prosecutors are next.

They are the attorneys that represent the government,

and you probably have heard of them in the context of police brutality,

specifically when they choose not to file charges against officers that shoot people.

Listen to how Alicia Garza says that she realized the importance of DAs

when she was protesting police violence.

We were arrested and we were charged with issues related to civil disobedience.

Even though a district attorney may have been obscure to us before,

it became very clear to us when we were at the mercy of the district attorney.

Finally, let's talk about an office you probably didn't know existed,

the Water Board.

You look at those Water Board seats – people whose job is essentially to bring water into the community,

and how to manage it –

a large number of those seats go uncontested.

If you're a voter looking to make the biggest difference possible,

vote for your local Water Board person, because water is essentially a human right.

There are so many more races like this we don't have time to go into,

like School Board and mayor and judge.

And remember, you won't be voting on all of these positions in November,

because it depends on where you live.

So check your local ballot, read up on the candidates and the issues, and remember:

Don't be a Bart Simpson.

So when people say that your vote doesn't matter,

what I would tell them is, go talk to Dolores Huerta.

Go tell John Lewis. These are two civil rights legends in our community

who have shed their blood, sweat and tears just so they can go into the voting booth one day

and vote for a couple of candidates,

whether it's governor, Water Board seat or School Board.

Hey guys, thank you so much for watching Because Facts,

for the midterm election

and what you'll be voting on. So let us know in the comments, and we'll see you next week.

Interview with BAND-MAID - Duration: 11:16.

Please introduce yourself!

Welcome back ladies and gentlemen!

We are BAND-MAID and my name is Miku Kobato.

I am the vocalist and guitarist of BAND-MAID.

I am the vocalist Saiki.

I am the guitarist Kanami.

I am the drummer Akane.

I am the bassist Misa.

Which country you traveled so far did you like the most?

I think each of us has their own favorite place.

For me, Mexico made the most excited impression at our live.

What was special about Mexico?

The masters and mistresses... that is what we call our fans

The masters and mistresses in Mexico were super hyped and excited

It was totally different compared to Japan.

We really felt an extreme tension in Mexico! It was amazing!

Awesome!

So you have been to many countries by now.

So what we are going to do next is

that I say a word in a specific language and you have to guess what language it is from.

AH! A quiz!

Bonjour

I think that is French.

That's correct! So next is...

Guten Tag!

Guten Tag... German?

We think it is German!

That was correct!

Good evening

Good evening... English... What they speak in the States

Dzień Dobry

I have no idea... Dzień Dobry...

Give us a hint!

A country next to Germany.

Switzerland?

No, not Switzerland! That is where we are right now!

Mhm... Next to Germany... Italy?

It's Polish.

Polish! I see!

Even though we've been there we didn't know...

So the theme of this tour is called "World Domination"

What does "World Domination" mean?

For BAND-MAID "World Domination" means to create a world in which everybody knows about us!

So basically everybody will know about BAND-MAID...

They already do know about us!

Fantastic!

If you could rule over only one country on this planet, which country would you choose?

Which one...

Of course the United States Of America!

Why is that?

If people know you in the States the whole world will know about you eventually.

It is also a big country!

Of course Japan is also very important to us.

But it's an island so the space is quite limited...

So America after all!

Miku, you were working as at a maid cafe before, is that correct?

Yes, that's right!

Is that the reason you called your band "BAND-MAID"?

Yes, exactly!

Which other aspects of a maid cafe "Maid" did remain in "BAND-MAID"?

Obviously our maid clothing,

as well as when I, the MC is greeting our fans I say"Welcome back masters and mistresses"

and at the end I say "See you next time my masters and mistresses"!

These are very maid cafe like things.

Could you please show us how you do it!

That is how it goes!

Wonderful!

Anything else?

When sending them off I say

That's what I say at the end.

Also, during concerts we do something called "Omajinai time"

At a maid cafe that would be when the maid casts a spell on your food and drink to make it more delicious.

What we do is to cast a spell so that the concert becomes more enjoyable for our listeners.

Wow, really!? So do you cast this spell together?

The other members don't give a ****. It is just me who is trying her best to cast the spell.

It's just me. Everybody else is free to do whatever they want.

This time you performed in Switzerland. What was your impression?

Let me think. It is a very beautiful county with mountains and a lot of nature.

Also watches! Yeah, right!

It is the country of watches.

We climbed up a mountain!

Really? How was it?

The view was astonishing! Nothing we could see in Japan!

This times event also feature anime related culture.

I heard that you Saiki are a great fan of Sailor Moon, is that true?

Yeah, that is true!

Did you liking Sailor Moon have an impact on the decision of you joining BAND-MAID?

No, not really...

I watched the re-screening of Sailor Moon as a child. The original anime was a generation before me.

So I watched it as a child and fell in love with the anime!

That's how it was!

But it didn't influence me to join BAN-MAID.

What is your next goal as BAND-MAID?

Except "World Domination".

First, we would like to visit more countries which we have never been to before, just like Switzerland.

One by one.

It was your first time visiting Switzerland?

Yes, it was!

It even took place in Davos, the World Economic Forum. What a great place to start a World Domination tour!

Yes, it's a big step!

We just released our new album, World Domination!

Switzerland was the first foreign country we visited after our album release.

A perfect place to begin with!

By the way, which artists do you guys like?

Of course it is different for all of us.

Talking about favorite artists... I think Akane...

I love Japanese hard rock band Maximum The Hormone!

Their female drummer Nao Kawakita inspired me and was the reason I also started a band!

Maximum The Hormone is a very energetic band, right?

YEAH!

I think most of the people in the audience know them. Great!

What about artists from abroad?

I like The Smashing Pumpkins

What is special about the music of BAND-MAID?

That we get crazy on stage! Energetic rock but still very melodic.

That is our style!

Indeed, wearing our cute maid outfits but creating cool music!

This gap is the most important part of our band concept!

That is what we want everybody to enjoy!

Is there something you would like to tell the audience?

We BAND-MAID are cute maids, creating hard rock!

As such we want to become an even cooler band.

So please join us and let us dominate this world together!

Thank you in advance!

Running, playing bagpipes

Driving on my electric motorbike

Motorscooter. It's a scooter
