How do you raise enough money to
throw an annual UTV party?
Simple throw a party! Today on At Your Leisure we will ride
UTV Utah trying to establish an annual event in Tooele County.
Then Reece says that this ribbon cutting is for the birds.
in a good way at the Eccles Wildlife education center.
And Reagan is taking Mat to the Mat. As they compete in the
Camp Chef Pizza Cookoff.
AYL is Next!
Chad: Hey this is so much fun it ought to be a party. Hi everybody I'm
Chad Booth welcome to At Your Leisure. As a matter of fact it is a party
and its one to raise money to make this an annual event and that is what
we are about today as we travel the road between Jacob City and Ophir Utah
near the Quirch Mountains let's find out about this ride and the fun that
sits behind it.
Man: Rides like today are very important to allow people to enjoy nature
and those types of areas and one of the goals we have had in Tooele is to
have the largest trail system in the state. We have great opportunity the
prospectors trails are over 700 miles of trails out there and people do not
realize it goes all the way down to the sand dunes comes all the way up to
Utah County and you can have challenging areas to ride today as we go up
into the Jacob City area come down Chandler which is very challenging but
then you also come down other roads down in Jacob City where it little less
challenging.
Chad: It doesn't get no matter what turn you take across the old Quirch
mountains young and old alike will not have to go far until their UTV journey
finds plenty of tall trees awash in the fire colors of fall or a few tall
tales of the trail from trail legend Nolan Steadman whose family has been
selling and telling about Tooele County for generations.
Man: Trails that are for hiking biking equestrian non-motorized motorized
and we reach out to all that use the trail system and and have and have something
available for everyone.
Chad: Whether you like to go it alone a long a long stretch of country trail
with no one else in site or caravan with your best buddies to see who can get
their rig the dirtiest autumn days and mountain trails will make you feel alive
you can follow the sign to adventure if you have a whole day or just a couple
of hours. The extensive trails of Tooele County stretching through 5 mile
pass to the Knolls from mountain trials to fast desert stretches or even from
your driveway from the Salt Lake Valley if you have a street legal rig and you
can find Butterfield Canyon that way you don't even need to crack out the trailer.
While any time is a good time to ride but an event like this gives you a good
chance to brag about your paint job or compare notes
with the next guy.
Chad: As you can see when you get together with your friends the possibilities
are endless out here in the Quirch Mountains We will continue with our UTV Utah
ride to raise funds for the annual Tooele County ride but right now we are going
to our travel adventure which also involves UTV Utah Utah's largest group of side
by side riders as they got together to ride in the Wasatch mountains to help the
victims of the Dollar Ridge Fire.
RIA: On July 1st 2018 the Dollar Ridge Fire began to burn its way across the
Strawberry Pinnacles. Within 6 days it exploded into 42, 000 acres and ended up
destroying almost 69,000 acres of land just to the east of Strawberry Reservoir.
Before the fires could even be contained the rains came flooding roads trails
and structures in some places it even changed the course of the river itself
rendering several bridges useless. This area once a treasure of snow mobile and
ATV trails summer homes and cabins now all lost most of them without adequate
insurance. The UTV enthusiast group UTV Utah Eastern Utah broadcasters KVEL
radio Cable channel VTV6 Vernal along with AYL put together a series of events
aimed to raise as much as money as they could to help those affected by those
affected by it.
Man: So what they are doing is they are getting together for the Dollar Ridge
Fire and they are getting support together UTV has done this a couple of times
we get the folks together to let them understand the importance of reading and
what we need to do to stick together to keep our roads and our designated trails open.
RIA: Riding out of Heber City the group headed out chasing the sun, and bound for
twilight.
Man: We left out of Heber at Carl Malone Polaris and coming up over the Wasatch
and trails here Tibble Fork it's a little dusty by probably the biggest ride I
have ever been on it's a lot of fun and its beautiful out the leaves are changing
right now it's gorgeous.
Man: So far a lot of fun amazing how tall the mountains were when we went up it
was a long ways down and looking back into Heber I have never been on this trail
before I want to come back.
Man: Being out here with a bunch of likeminded people family seeing all the
different UTV's just being out here in the mountains.
RIA: Over 100 people lined up to hit the gas in a parade a parade of support
of Dollar Ridge.
Man: Great event group aspect of it, its fun to take a break like this and
talk.
Man: I've never done an event this big there are so many people here it is
awesome they are doing a great job of keeping everybody in line and together
usually I have been in small groups in jeep clubs and usually have 8 to 10 people.
Man: It's going to get a little dark and do a little night ride and head back.
RIA: The return trip cast a different hue on the ride as the headlights pierced
the indigo of the Saturday night.
Man: Anything that helps other people in need is what we like to do.
Man: Any fire is important but that area is where we also snow mobile
And stuff like that they need the support and you look at the fires down by Strawberry
and our state needs a lot of support and it's good to help everybody and it's good
to have that pay forward thing so we might have to help them this time and they might
be down in our area helping us next time if we have a big fire.
RIA: The UTV event contributed over 1900 dollars towards the 50,000 dollar overall
goal of the fund raising coalition. Almost closing the gap to the goal UTV Utah is

Chad: 30 bucks a piece right, I emptied out my piggy bank for this.
Man: well we are just about ready to start with some live entertainment on the stage
over there Carver Lewis will be performing on the stage with us and then we are going
to have a beautiful dinner prepared for us by a caterer and then for now in the
evening we will have some drawings and raffle off some of the prizes and then we will
be the lucky person who wins the RZR.
Chad: This one is for you.
Reagan: We are in the wild outdoors and we are making pizza today but we are doing
it outside we have Matt here from Camp Chef Stoves and Pizza is my very favorite thing.
Matt: Mine too
Reagan: I usually make it in the over or sometimes even in the microwave this is an
outdoor contraption we can throw it in and make really awesome pizza.
Matt: This is one of our newer products as well the Italian artisan pizza oven
fantastically designed it with one of our pizza maker in Logan Jacks pizza.
Reagan: Matt are you an expert at this?
Matt: Trying to be. We are going to stretch these out to about 10 to 12 inch rounds.
We are going to have a little completion here. What are you going to make?
Reagan: I want to do the Margarita you don't have crushed tomatoes but I will do
it with the sauce.
Matt: I'm doing a classic cheese bread.
Reagan: This is just make your own whatever you want to do right?
Matt: Yes however you like it.
Reagan: This is fun.
Matt: We have Parmesan Mozzarella Smoked Cheddar for my cheese bread.
Reagan: The thing that is fun I think Matt is being able to do this with the kids you
get it ready if you are out camping get it all ready and they can take it away and
gets the kids excited.
Matt: We slide these right into the oven bake for 7 minutes at about 500 or 550 degrees
it bakes quickly.
Reagan: It's an amazing oven and you can use it for more than pizza too, how do you
get this?
Matt: You can, we have done cedar plank salmon, cinnamon rolls just log on to

Reagan: super excited they look beautiful and it was only a few minutes' smells delicious.
Matt: if you are not into making your own pizza you can do frozen pizzas too.
Reagan: I think we should cut these open and dip into it.
Matt: absolutely.
Reagan. Let's try this out this is really good.

Chad: Welcome back to At Your Leisure we are out here in Tooele County on a fund
raising ride to help generate funds for trail activities and the trail committee here
in the county. Now anytime you have an event half of it is the ride which we already
covered half of it is the party afterwards joining us is Bud Burning who is the
President of UTV Utah club or group that has really been behind this event so Bud
is this the second year you guys have hooked up with Tooele.
Man: it is this is our second annual event these guys are awesome. People do not
know this but Tooele County has hundreds if not thousands of miles of OHVs so its
overlooks as we also have the Piute Trail and and all these others but Tooele County
have so many trails and they have trails all the way up in the Pines all the way out
to the Desert. We love to come out here and play.
Chad; That's true last year we had a double edged party because we were celebrating
with Tooele County and a road victory.
Man: right it was a good event last year we just passed the street legal law opening
the roads up to OHV's we threw that event as a celebration and people from Salt Lake
County can come over here to Tooele County gas up and hit the trails right from your
house from Salt Lake County so that's pretty cool.
Chad: Yes, quite a few people did that today I would imagine.
Man: They did.
Chad: Tell us about UTV Utah.
Man: UTV Utah started off by a group of guys that had side by sides we go out to the
Dunes every weekend we wanted a way to host the events it started out about 12 people
and then more people started joining and then we realized we have a big group and we
are now more than just an off road group we help with keeping trails open and opening
new trails and all kinds of stuff.
Chad; so you become opposite of an environmental group and you are an activists group
for trail access?
Man: we are we are activists for trail access. So ATV's, motorcycles, OHVs we fight
to keep trails open.

Now while we are on the subject of web pages. I am going to let
you in on a little insider information, or should I say outsider
information! We are bringing back a new high tech version of the
AYL outsiders club. The club is free to join and will have outsider,
information on every one of our destination adventures. Each
trip we take on AYL will have an interactive "real time" video map
of the entire route that we took. It will work in conjunction with
an overlaid map that shows the route. Drag the cursor to any point
and the video of that part of the trail will appear. You will be
able to preview the entire trail to see if it is the right adventure
for you and your family and friends. You will also find links to
"AYL approved" places to get fuel, food, supplies and sleep for your
adventure. Now all the things fans ask us about when they see a
story are all right there on one single page. We will also share
information about special sales, buys, accessories and other things
that we don't have time for during the show. There will be some

Chad: All that talk about activity makes me hungry for this part the food. Right now
it's time for us to go to our trail head adventure we are off to join Reece Stein who
is discovering a wet lands trail but I promise you his feet are dry but the trail is
fun it's called the Eccles. Let's find out about it.
Reece: I'm Reece Stein with At Your Leisure on the shores of the Great Salt Lake at
the new Eccles Wildlife Center. If you are looking for a place close to town by a million
miles away from civilization this is the spot.
Man: I think the neat thing about this place is that it is so close to our urban area.
Reece: The pristine wetlands of the Eccles Wildlife education center looks to be in the
more than 5 minutes off interstate 15 just west of Lagoon its
300 acres sit right next to the 18 thousand acre Farmington bird refuge off of the shore
of the Great Salt Lake that is mainly for the birds.
So we have water fowl lots of ducks shore birds black stilts variety of song birds the
majority of birds will be shore birds that will be in spring migration and fall migration
fattening up they use us as a stopover as they continue north to breed and on the reverse
migration heading south for the winter.
Reece: Division director Mike Folks opens the new 3 building education center that
includes classroom, auditorium and exhibit hall several major trails lead from the
wetlands at especially camouflaged blinds you might see
white pelicans feeding on the ponds. Turkey vultures flying high above or red wing
black birds flying below or in the spring large families of Canada geese.
Man: We raise a lot of geese here we have hundreds of thousands of geese.
Reece. Local Billy Fennimore as the director he points to the center piece of the preserve.
Man: So we have area that is an artificial nesting area so we have great blue herrings
nests and raise about 2 to 3 young and we have a platform that
will hold about 15 nests sites. Great blue herrings use it as a roost when nesting so
they can stay up off the ground into safe areas so predators cannot get to them. Special
guests of the opening is a huge female bald eagle for Hole Zoo and a cute little screech
owl on the Ogden Nature Center. Birdwatching is reported to be the nation's fastest
growing natural outdoor activity and the birds flock to the opening of the Eccles center.
Man: We do a Wednesday board walk every Wednesday this is part of our day to come down
here and see all these birds that come into the wetlands. Great Place. Great Place.

for a fundraiser for their trail committee for trails all around the county and every
this with a big club we obviously have one problem, everybody
