Waching daily Jun 25 2017

Thank you. Thank you.

So, good news.

They say you can shack up here.

I didn't hear them say anything.

Oh, they don't speak too much.

When you've been here as long as I have, you start to understand. You'll see.

Wait a minute. Wait, wait, wait.

We can't stay here. We have to get off the island.

We have lives. I have a life.

Nieves, now is not the time. All right?

What lands here tends to stay here.

As far as I can tell,

this ship washed up about 10 years before I did.

- WEAVER: You've been here since '44? - Yeah.

What happened with the war? Did we win?

SLIVKO: Which one?

MARLOW: Uh-huh. That makes sense.

This is all hallowed ground to them.

So if you like your hands, don't touch anything.

Oh!

Look at that.

MARLOW: The way they tell it, for thousands of years,

the people on this island lived in fear.

That's a hell of a long time to be scared.

And then, one day, the damnedest thing happened.

Some of the things they were afraid of

started protecting them against the things that were eating them.

But nothing lasts forever, I guess.

And this is where they honor the last of their saviors.

Yeah.

That's Kong.

He's king around here.

He's God to these people.

Kong's a pretty good king.

Keeps to himself mostly.

This is his home. We're just guests here.

But you don't go into someone's house and start dropping bombs

unless you're picking a fight.

Wasn't Kong the one who killed your friend?

No.

One of them did.

Kong's god on the island,

but the devils live below us.

And what are they called?

The Iwis won't speak their name.

But I call them Skull-crawlers.

Why?

'Cause it sounds neat.

Okay.

Look, I just made that name up. I'm trying to scare you.

I'm fine calling them that.

- Are you cool with that? - Yeah...

- I like the name, so... - That seems like a great name.

I've never said that name out loud before. It sounds stupid now that I say it.

You call them whatever you want.

They're big lizard things. Nasty.

They come from the vents deep down.

That's why Kong got so mad.

(ROARS)

Those bombs woke up a bunch of them.

I tell you what. You're lucky he's out there, too,

or you wouldn't have made it this far.

They're crafty bastards. Mean as hell.

Now, he can handle them

as long as he gets to them when they're still small.

(ROARS)

You don't wanna wake up the big one.

- How big is it?

Kong's the last of his kind, but he's still growing.

And you better hope he does.

Because the Iwis say once Kong goes,

then the big one comes up.

Then it's, "Goodnight, Irene." (CHUCKLES)

Listen, there's a refueling team

coming to the north end of the island in three days.

You should come with us.

To the north end of the island?

- (LAUGHING) - We're gonna get out of here.

- In three days? - Yes.

(BOTH LAUGH)

You can't get to the north end in three days.

It's impossible. That's it. No way.

At least not on foot.(Cliptonite-CoolestClips4K)

How Apple Flies Changed the Way We Think of Evolution - Duration: 4:21.

Every living thing on Earth, from fungus to flying foxes, is descended from one single-celled

ancestor that showed up in the primordial ooze billions of years ago.

You probably knew that already.

But did you ever wonder how a single ancestor split into the 9 million or so species that

populate the world today?

It's a subject that evolutionary biologists spend a lot of time thinking about, for obvious

reasons, and they still don't agree on all the details.

But something that happened to a bunch of flies in the 1800s is helping them figure

it out.

The process of one species splitting into two or more is called speciation, and there

are two basic ways it can happen: allopatric and sympatric.

Allopatric speciation is the kind that's pretty straightforward.

It happens when a single species is split into two or more groups by a physical barrier.

Think glaciers during an ice age, a river carving out a canyon, a lava flow from a volcanic

eruption, or even the construction of a new highway.

Over time, each of the isolated populations goes off in its own evolutionary direction.

Either because they're adapting to the specific spots where they ended up, or just through

random genetic drift, they build up genetic and physical differences from each other.

Eventually, they become so different that even if they come into contact again, they

can't interbreed with each other - they've become separate species.

Biology is full of examples of allopatric speciation, like the different species of

squirrel on the north and south rims of the Grand Canyon, or finches isolated on different

islands in the Galapagos.

But there's not always a clear physical barrier that separates one species into two.

Sometimes a species splits even though the two diverging groups are still living side

by side in the same habitat.

That's sympatric speciation.

Like in the case of the apple maggot fly, an insect native to North America that split

into two very different groups around the mid-1800s.

For sympatric speciation to happen, something has to make different groups within a population

stop breeding with each other even though they're still sharing a habitat.

They don't just, like, spontaneously decide that they want to split up.

The process generally starts with disruptive selection, when natural selection drives a

population in two different directions at the same time.

Combine that with assortative mating, where individuals choose mates that are similar

to themselves, and you can end up with two different groups splitting off from each other.

If these forces are at work for long enough, they can cause one species to break up into

two, each carving out a separate niche in their shared ecosystem.

That's what happened with the apple maggot fly.

The fly used to lay its eggs only on the fruit of hawthorn trees, which are native to North

America.

But after domestic apple trees were introduced to North America in the 1600s, some flies

were able to switch over to using those instead.

By the mid-1800s, there were so many flies infesting apples that they'd become a serious

problem for apple farmers.

The flies look for mates on the type of fruit they hatch on, so over time, hawthorn-eating

flies and apple-eating flies have tended to stick to their own.

These days, hawthorn flies and apple flies have different genomes, even though they still

live in the same habitat.

They've gone through sympatric speciation in just a few hundred years.

Another example of sympatric speciation in action comes from Lake Apoyo, a volcanic lake

in Nicaragua.

The lake was colonized just once by a single ancestral species of cichlid fish, but today

there are two related species there, even though there's no way two populations could

ever have been isolated from each other in the small, uniform, conical lake.

They split up anyway: the two fish species that live there now have different body shapes

and different teeth and specialize in different food, with one eating insects and the other

eating plant material.

But even though we've seen sympatric speciation in action, it's still kind of controversial

among biologists.

The conditions needed for it to happen are pretty specific, and clear-cut examples of

sympatric speciation in nature are rare.

So much so that some biologists are still a little skeptical about the idea.

Cases like the apple maggot fly and the cichlids in Lake Apoyo have helped convince most scientists

that sympatric speciation really can happen, but we're still not sure how common it is.

Do species split up that way all the time?

Or does there need to be some kind of physical separation between two groups except in very

rare cases?

Since we often don't know what the exact geographical conditions were when species

split in the past, it's hard to tell.

All we know for sure is that evolution is a non-stop process: species are arising, changing,

diverging, and dying out all the time.

The Game Thinks Meek Mill and Safaree Need to Fight One-on-One - Duration: 1:47.

Hey guys for Complex News, I'm Natasha Martinez.

the Meek Mill and Safaree Samuels altercation that happened this weekend seems to have brought

out two sides from celebrity spectators.

On one hand, no one wants to get involved and would rather dissolve the situation, and

on the other, why not have the two settle this feud one-on-one?

Someone who is all for a face to face throwdown is The Game.

After BET's Celebrity Basketball Game on Saturday The Game was asked about his thoughts on the

beef between Meek and Safaree.

"Why not meet up and fight one-on-one?

You know what I'm saying?

It's only fair."

One artist that was seen in the footage of the altercation was DJ Self.

While he would certainly like to see the two move past this feud, he's aiming for a more

peaceful approach than what The Game had in mind.

In order to clear rumors of his involvement DJ Self took to instagram to share his message

of moving on and emphasizing on the fact that everyone there was in a place at the wrong

time.

As for Meek, he's continuing to appear unbothered by everything and staying focused on his music.

On Saturday Meek shared a powerful music video for "YBA" which portrays Meek advising young,

black Americans to be cautious in their decision-making, and to remember their actions can have life-altering

impact.

He captioned it with, QUOTE IG--"Stop paying attention to stupid

shit and catch a real message"

TMZ also caught Meek in Los Angeles Saturday night and when asked about a one-on-one fight

he simply said, he's a Don and Don's don't fight.

Recipe. Dessert. Kumquats filled with marmalade, with chocolat coating - Duration: 6:11.

Hello Friend, how are you?

We go today with a video of relaxation, it is not technology, it is a recipe, a dessert

If you do it you will love it

Are kumquats stuffed with jam with chocolate coating

Kumquat is also known as "Chinese orange" or "Dwarf orange"

The fruits are more or less of this size, and there are round shape and there are ovals like this, I prefer these ovals

A few months ago I uploaded a video to this channel, to the section of "urban orchard", talking about the transplant of one of these trees, now I have two kumquats and probably acquire two more. I am delighted with these little trees

But it is not necessary to have these trees. The kumquats are also sold in the supermarket although it is true that they are not easy to find

To "understand" this dessert I have to say one thing about kumquat, and that is ...

Unlike the normal orange, in the kumquat, what is good, what is sweet and tastier is the rind, while inside, the pulp and juice, have a taste too pronounced that may not please everyone

But this is not a problem, because in this recipe we are going to take out the pulp and the juice and leave only the rind as a container to fill it with (we'll see what) and then coat it with chocolate

And the contrast of the citrus with the flavor of the chocolate and the filling, this is rich, rich, rich...

The first of all, of course, wash the kumquats well. And then we are cutting the ends ...

We do it with all the kumquats

Now, with the handle of a teaspoon, in improvised knife plan... we are cutting to extract the pulp

Do not repel the rind much. Leave the inner white part of the rind which is also good

That is, ... pulp out, ... and it stays ... like this

to the ice tray...

Well, now we fill in the kumquat, of what?

Here the options are many. We can fill with a chocolate other than the coverage, for example chocolate mousse, or even chocolate custard, I'm going to use something that has been good for me other times:

Jam. And I suggest it's some kind of citrus. I'm going to use sweet orange jam. Let's fill the kumquats ...

And we leave them again in the ice tray

Now that all the kumquats are filled, let's make this operation with chopsticks

For the part that is open we cross with the toothpick and make it protrude on the opposite side, about two cms. We'll see what this is for

Let's cover the kumquats with that chocolate bath

To facilitate the chocolate melting, pour some water, or coffee, or if you prefer, some liquor. I'll pour coffee

there goes the coffee ...

I'm not going to use "water bath", but I'll put the "fire" to a minimum and I'll be stirring all the time so the chocolate does not burn or stick

Let's put the chocolate, some kind that is suitable for melting

the purpose of these chopsticks is clear, right?

We bath the kumquats with the chocolate ...

... and back to the ice tray

Now is the time to put them in the refrigerator to cool and the chocolate to solidify

Once the chocolate is solid they can already be consumed. You can serve them as they are, or get them out of here and make another presentation. Anyway, they'll be just as rich. By the way ... excuse me... xD

BREAKING: Tillerson and Mattis Team Up To Kill Obama's 'Pet Project' - Duration: 2:33.

Two juggernauts of the Trump administration are teaming up to eliminate the waste left

behind by former President Obama.

Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson, and Secretary of Defense, James Mattis, have teamed up to

eliminate the position of special representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan — a post created

by former President Obama.

(via Washington Examiner).

Laurel Miller was forced to step down as the special representative for Afghanistan and

Pakistan, as the Trump administration seeks to eliminate waste in the State Department.

Instead, the duties of the special representative will return to the South and Central Asian

Affairs Bureau, allowing for a broader approach to the problems in the Middle East.

The special representative position was created by Obama in 2009 to deal with the problems

in Pakistan and Afghanistan as independent and isolated issues.

The envoy position was widely considered to be redundant, as the South and Central Asian

Affairs Bureau was already responsible for leading missions in the region.

The post was eliminated because Rex Tillerson is attempting to reduce the budget of the

State Department by 32 percent, in accordance with President Trump's cost-saving initiative.

The decision was made as James Mattis planned to deliver 5000 more troops to Afghanistan

to train locals in the fight against the growing Taliban insurgency.

President Trump is committed to eliminating the wasteful positions created by Barack H.

Obama to reward his wealthy donors.

The duties of the special envoy will be consolidated into the broader State Department, thus saving

money, and increasing coordination across the Middle East.

The swamp continues to drain, as Obama officials are forced to step down.

Laurel Miller, who was recently fired, is planning to return to her post at the Rand

Corporation — a public policy think tank that receives its funding from private businesses,

and the United States Armed Force.

The effort by Mattis and Tillerson is part of the major change in strategy deployed by

President Trump.

Funding is being spent on troops, instead of special envoys.

Obama was the president of rhetoric, while Trump is the president of action.

Instead of talking to the Taliban President, Trump is bringing the fight directly to their

door step.

What do you think we need to win the War in Afghanistan?

Please share this news and tell us what you think!
