I started working at East Driefontein in 1979

I first operated the Winch and then after became a Special Team Leader.

We were retrenched in '98.

I was not feeling well in the chest and when I was checked it was discovered that my chestis damaged!

When I stopped working I did not get any money since then.

Even now I live here. Because of poverty I decided to come to Cape Town. When I got here there were no jobs but the illness continued and my chest would close up!

As of now I am here I stay in Nkanini since then.

It's a squatter camp with shacks I never had a house!

I never worked anywhere I came and stayed here.

I tried driving taxis but failed because they said I was already too old.

They'd ask where I was all this time. I was also aware that I was old because I had spent most of my time working at the mine.

and for many years I only worked at the mines and I only worked at East Driefontein there is no other mine I worked longest at except all these years I was at East Driefontein

as a Winch Driver thereafter a Special Team Leader until retrenchment.

I survive here sometimes attend church there is nothing special I do because there is no job that I can be able to get because of my chest.
