Ninh explains - Get everything you ever wanted!

Write your own story!

Imagine that you could have everything you ever wanted in life.

Fast cars, a nice home, a beautiful … oh.

Let's try that again.

Fast cars, a nice home, a beautiful significant other, money, lots of money!

Your own business, your own butler, fame – FAME!

I'm going to live forever!

And one of those dogs that no-one can figure out what breed it is.

You know what, you can have that and more!

It doesn't matter what your current circumstances - whether you're poor, in a crappy job,

living on the streets.

You can turn it all around and get whatever it is that you want.

Other people have created their dream life – and all they did was decided what it is

that they wanted and they figured out the steps they needed to take in order to get

what they wanted.

They wrote out their own story years before it even happened – and I'm going to tell

you how to do the same.

So how?

I want you to grab a sheet of paper and write down whatever it is that you want on the right

hand side.

Bullet point it, write it in a sentence, whatever.

Then I want you to imagine what steps you need to take before your end goal.

Work backwards here.

What's next, what happens befoee you need to do that, before you need to do that?

What's before that?

What's before that?

Pretty soon, you'll arrive here at the present day.

And take a look what you've written.

You've written a blueprint on the steps you need to take, to get whatever it is that

you want.

All you have to do now, is go out there and start doing these and tick them off one by

one.

Have some fun with this guys, you can ask for anything … literally anything!

Now this might seem like a silly exercise.

But by writing it down and drumming it into your brain, you'll start to feel that this

is achievable.

Especially if you've broken them down into small enough steps.

You and your goal will get closer and closer together.

It's obviously not going to happen on it's own, you have to put the work in here, but

the point is at least you know what it is you want, and what you'll need to do in order

to get there.

I'm not kidding guys, grab a sheet of paper … do it now.

Litterally do it now.

I'll stand here and wait .... ... still waiting ... …. okay I'm bored of waiting, but

the point is ... … at the very least, it'll be a fun paper exercise.

And at the very most, you'll actually get what you wanted in life .It's free?!

Where Will the Space Launch System Take Us? Preparing For The Most Powerful Rocket Ever Built - Duration: 10:04.

NASA is in an awkward in-between time right now since the beginning of the

Space Age the agency has had the ability to send its astronauts into space the

first American to go to space Alan Shepard did a sub orbital launch onboard

a mercury redstone rocket in 1961 then the rest of the mercury astronauts went

on Atlas rockets and then the Gemini astronauts flew on various titan rockets

NASA's ability to hurl people and their equipment into space to quantum leap

with the enormous Saturn 5 rocket used in the Apollo program it's difficult to

properly comprehend just how powerful the Saturn 5 was so I'll give you some

examples of the things this monster could launch a single Saturn 5 could

blast 120 2,000 kilograms or 269 thousand pounds into low-earth orbit or

send 49 thousand kilograms or 107 thousand pounds on a transfer orbit to

the moon instead of continuing on with the Saturn program NASA decided to shift

gears and build the mostly reusable space shuttle although it's shorter than

the Saturn 5 the space shuttle with its twin external solid rocket boosters

could put 27 thousand 500 kilograms or 60,000 pounds into low-earth orbit not

too bad and then in 2011 the space shuttle program wrapped up and with it

the United States ability to launch humans into space and most importantly

to send astronauts to the continuously inhabited international space station

that task is falling to Russian Rockets until the u.s. builds back the capacity

for human spaceflight since the cancellation of the shuttle NASA's

workforce of engineers and rocket scientists have been developing the next

heavy lift vehicle in NASA's lineup the Space Launch System the SLS looks like a

cross between a Saturn 5 and the space shuttle has the same familiar solid

rocket boosters but instead of the Space Shuttle Orbiter and it's orange external

fuel tank the SLS has the central core it has four of a space shuttles rs.25

liquid oxygen engines NASA knows how to use them how to use

them safely the very first configuration of the sls

known as the block one should have the ability to put about 70 metric tons into

low-earth orbit and that's just the beginning it's just an estimate over

time nasa will increase its capabilities and launch power to match more and more

ambitious missions and destinations with more launches look at a better sense of

what this thing is capable of after the block one is launching nasa will develop

the block 1b which puts a much larger upper stage on top of the same core

stage this upper stage will have a larger fairing and more powerful second

stage engine capable of putting 97.5 metric tons into low-earth orbit finally

there's the block 2 with an even larger launch fairing and a more powerful upper

stage it should blast a hundred and forty-three tons into low-earth orbit

probably NASA is developing this version as a hundred and thirty ton class rocket

but we don't know what the upper end is and with this much launch capacity what

can be done with it what kinds of missions become possible on a rocket

this powerful the main goal for SLS it's to send humans out beyond low-earth

orbit ideally to Mars in the 2030s but could also go to asteroids the moon

whatever you like and you'll see later on in this video it could send some

amazing scientific missions out there - the very first flight for SLS called

exploration mission-1 will be to put the new Orion crew module into a trajectory

that takes it around the moon in a very similar flight to Apollo 8 but there

won't be any humans just the unmanned Orion module and a bunch of cube sets

coming along for the ride Orion will spend about three weeks in space

including about six days in a retrograde orbit around the moon and if all goes

well the first use the SLS what the Orion crew module will happen sometime

in 2019 but also don't be surprised if it gets pushback that's the name of the

game after exploration mission-1 there's eeehm - which should happen a

few years after that it's only the first time humans get into an Orion crew

module and take a flight into space you'll spend 21 days in a lunar orbit

and deliver first component of the future deep space

gateway which will be the subject of future video from there the future is

unclear but SLS will provide the capability to put various habitats and

space stations into cislunar space opening up the future of human space

exploration of the solar system now I just introduced the Space Launch System

and what its first missions will be in a moment I'm going to talk about some of

the more exotic uses SLS could be used for it but first I'd like to thank Doug

bro Mason moody Charles white Scott Gumpert and the rest of our 760 patrons

for the generous support if you love what we're doing and you want to get in

on the action head over to patreon a calm plush

universe today now you know where SLS is probably headed but the key to this

hardware is if it gives NASA raw capability to put humans and robots into

space not just here on earth but way across the solar system

use Space Telescope's robotic explorers Rovers orbiters and even human habitats

in a recent study called the Space Launch System capabilities for beyond

Earth missions a team of engineers mapped out what the SLS should be

capable of putting into the solar system for example Saturn is a difficult liner

to reach and in order to get there NASA's Cassini spacecraft needs to do

several gravitational slingshot surround earth and one past Jupiter and took

about seven years to get to Saturn SLS could 10 missions to Saturn on a direct

trajectory cutting the flight time down to just four years block one could send

2.7 tons to Saturn while block 1b could LA 5.1 tons NASA is considering a

mission to Jupiter's Trojan asteroids these are collection of space rocks

trapped in Jupiter's l4 and l5 Lagrange points and could be a fascinating place

of study once put into the Trojan region a

mission could visit several different asteroids sampling of vast range of

rocks that detailed solar systems early history the block one could put almost

3.97 tons into these orbits while the block 1b could do 7.5 9 tons that's six

times the capability of an Atlas 5 a mission like this would have a

of ten years in a previous video we talked about the future Uranus and

Neptune missions and how a single SLS could send spacecraft to both planets

simultaneously another idea that I like is an inflatable habitat from Bigelow

Aerospace the BA 2100 module would be a fully self-contained space habitat no

need for other modules this monster would be 65 to 800 tons and would go up

in a single launch of SLS once inflated it would contain 2250 cubic meters which

is almost three times the total living space of the International Space

Station's one of the most exciting missions to me is a next-generation

Space Telescope something that would be the true spiritual successor to the

Hubble Space Telescope there are few proposals in the works right now but the

one I like the best is the Louvois telescope which would have a mirror that

measures 16 metres across the SLS block 1b could put 36.9 tons into sun earth

LaGrant - really there's nothing else out there that could put this much mass

into that orbit and just for comparison Hubble has a mirror of 2.4 meters across

and James Webb is 6.5 will be war you would have 10 times more resolution than

James Webb and 300 times more power than Hubble but like Hubble it would be

capable of seeing the universe invisible and other wavelengths a telescope like

this could directly image the event horizons of supermassive black hole see

right to the edge of the observable universe and watch the first galaxies

forming the first stars it could directly observe planets orbiting other

stars and help us determine they have life on them seriously I want this

telescope now at this point I know it's going to set off a big argument about

NASA versus SpaceX versus other private launch providers it's fine I get it and

the Falcon Heavy is expected to launch later this year bringing heavy lift

launch capability at an affordable price it'll be able to loft 54 thousand

kilograms which is less than the SLS block one and almost a third of the key

of the block to blue origins has this new Glen and there are heavier rockets

in the works from United Launch Alliance area in space and the Russian Space

Agency and even the Chinese the future of heavy lift has never been more

exciting and if SpaceX does get the interplanetary transport ship going with

300 tons into orbit on a reusable rocket well then everything changes everything

until then I'm still looking forward to the SLS what places would you like to

see the SLS travel to let me know your thoughts in the comments now I'm going

to anticipate arguments about SpaceX vs. NASA so please be civil in our next

episode I think I'm going to talk about really cool space programs missions and

Space Telescope's that got cancelled this one's going to make you really sad

today's playlist let's start with a cool video animation about the Space Launch

System from NASA then an episode of tomorrow about the SLS a really cool

video showing an engine test for us LS a promotional video from Boeing about

their involvement and finally a longer talk from NASA about SLS and that starts

right now the very first configuration of the SLS

known as the black one let's go back

How Do Glaciers Move? - Duration: 7:04.

Here's something we all take for granted: Liquid things flow like liquids, and solid

things flow like, well… solid things don't flow, right?

Not so fast.

Glaciers are cool, and not just cuz they're made of ice.

I'm here at Mendenhall Glacier, one of about 40 glaciers in the famed Juneau Icefield.

Glaciers are cool, because the way that they move, even the very fact that they move seems

to defy physics.

A solid structure, that flows like liquid.

How?

THAT is a question of glacial proportions.

[OPEN]

To figure out how a glacier moves, first let's go back to the beginning.

<Show the big bang> Ahh, not that beginning.

The beginning of the glacier, and first you've got to get up there.

I'm super excited, I've never been in a helicopter before

and we're gonna take this thing up to the top of a glacier.

This ice is born in the ocean.

Warm, moist air from the Pacific rises up coastal mountains, where it cools, condenses,

and falls as snow and rain.

30 meters of snow, sometimes more, falls on this icefield every year.

But you need more than a mountain of snow to make a glacier: you also need the right

climate.

Even in summer, temperatures in this region dip near freezing.

What this means is the accumulation of snow in winter exceeds snowmelt in summer.

So snow builds over time, with each layer landing on top of the one before it.

Now, a cubic meter of fresh snow typically weighs 70 to 150 kilograms.

That's about as much as an adult human or two.

Most of that volume is air.

But as it continues to pile up, collective forces on the fluffy stuff begin a transformation.

*First, those pretty snowflake shapes are totally shattered into smaller crystals; about

as big as grains of sugar.

And as they get squished, the air pockets between them start to shrink.

The snow gets denser.

*After about two years, ground snow takes a new form, called "firn," an intermediate

state between snow and glacial ice.

Firn is about two-thirds the density of water, and it can take decades to complete the transition

into its final form.

That final form is a big mass of dense, bubble-free ice.

The ice in Mendenhall is flowing forward more than a half meter every day.

Glaciers are often compared to "rivers of ice," and that's not wrong.

These giant solid structures behave with liquid-like tendencies.

*I know what you're thinking: "ice flows because it melts."

But glacier ice flows without melting.

Mendenhall fits the definition of a solid: I can stand – even jump – on it, and it

will hold its shape.

Short term stress doesn't affect that.

But long-term stress, like bearing its own extraordinary weight, will cause it to deform

and bend.

What we're told makes something a solid, rather than a liquid, is that its atoms and

molecules are so tightly bonded, they can't move past each other.

But this isn't the case with glacial ice.

Its water molecules are arranged in an orderly pattern, but under certain conditions they

can still flow.

Much of this has to do with the pressure melting point.

As pressure increases, the melting point of ice decreases.

When glacier ice stays close to – but just below – that point, it becomes malleable,

much like how you can bend and deform solid metal when it's heated near its melting

point.

*The deepest layers of a glacier are exposed to the most pressure.

This is known as the "zone of plastic flow," because the bonds between the ice crystals

can be stretched rather than broken.

Here, the molecular bonds between ice crystals actually stretch and slide past each other,

rather than break, like how a deck of cards deforms as cards slide past each other.

<Have the word MAGIC come up behind joe for a few frames as he tosses the cards>

When the bottom of the glacier needs to move around large obstacles, like boulders, even

higher pressures on the uphill side cause the ice to melt, flow around the obstacle,

and refreeze on the other side.

<Could show a cross section of a boulder to show this, check out Figure 2)

*As these processes repeat, the glacier creeps along, propelled by gravity, like a giant,

gooey conveyor belt.

*Up in the top of the glacier, things get a bit cranky.

The upper 150 feet or so – "the zone of brittle flow" – doesn't experience as

much pressure.

That makes it prone to cracking under stress, which is why you'll find deep crevasses

near the surface.

Imagine a candy bar warping around a curved surface.

The top has to stretch farther, faster, so it cracks, while the gooey bottom bends and

stretches.

Some glacier movement comes from slipping on sediment or a thin layer of water, but

most glaciers not at Earth's poles move by this process of deforming.

<let's take a quiet moment here for some awesome mountain/Alaska footage, musical transition>

But glaciers are a product of climate, and they change *with* the climate.

Mendenhall Glacier is currently slinking along a 13-mile journey to its lowest point, Mendenhall

Lake.

The terminal edge of a glacier is one of the easiest places to see its movement in action,

but it's also where we can see how much things are changing.

Glaciers never move backwards, and they are always melting.

But when mass melts away at the bottom faster than new mass is added up top, they can recede.

It takes about 200 years for new ice on Mendenhall to move from the icefield to the lake.

It's a slow process, but warmer summers combined with less snow in winter are speeding

things up.

The glacier is melting faster than it's growing – and it's already retreated miles.

Just a few decades ago, where I'm standing was covered in ice.

How glaciers move is incredibly cool, but for that to continue, they have to stay that

way.

Stay curious.

If you want to see more of Alaska's incredible wild life, watch Wild Alaska Live, a special

3-night live event brought to you by PBS and BBC.

GRENOBLE vlog#2 - BIG STORY TIME - Duration: 16:39.

Morning!

We are gonig to have breakfast

There are such a goog stuff, I cant believe!

Let's go to the lecture.

It will be about how music is used in cinema and films

Absolutely normal

For me it is still unbelievable that wherever you look, you can see the mountains around you here

Oh gosh, it is so nice

Like a fucking fairy tale, like in the film called 'In Brugges'

Here is the tram

It is soo cool, the whole platfom is coverd by grass

It goes through the campus

Through the whole city, cool

Up there, now you cant see because of the sun and the glow

But there is still snow on the mountains

It is 25-26 degrees down here

But up there, there is still snow

I am very courius how the view will be

Thug life is on :D

It is gonna be copyright content. You know, right?

The problem with the thermostats!

The first thermostat is in the scene when Emma Stone steps into the jazz club

YES YES

Next to her head, Like this

There is a lighting thermostat

[Noemi]: Because its a symbol

[MPM]: Yes you think this, but I prove it is not immediately

The camera is zooming to her head, the big love, while he plays on the piano

But I was still focusing for the thermostat

Which is getting bigger, because we are getting closer to her head

And the lighting white thermostat

There is a shot which actually stars on the thermostat in ryan gosling's flat. It is madness

I didnt want to believe it but bad weather has arrived

It is colder by 20 degrees from yesterday, 20 dergrees! How that is even possible?!

So today shooting is a rainy shooting. Lets go

Th last shooting

sooooo

so i should have to go to Victor, to cut the movie

He lives there, at the world's end

And he said it easy to go by bus from here

I tought it is close enough to us

I considered 10 minutes would be enough, the the bus was late, and i realised the the place is really far, more then 20 stops

It was a 30 minutes ride

When I wanted tou check on my phone the time and the adress

But the battery died totally

I was trying to find the place but I didnt remember the number, so I wanted to find a place where I could charge my phone, but every staircase were closed

I didnt know what should i do

When I saw a woman who threw the garbage away

I attacke her, like Tu parles L'anglais? And she could a little bit

And she invited me to her flat to charge my phone

She threw away the garbage

and started to run up on the stairs

while she was explaning me that sen always ran on the stairs

beacause she needs this activity

we went to the 3rd floor

the door was opend which was strange for me

come in come in, she said

ok, I stepped inside, when her husband jump out of a room, and he was very surprised

But we were shaking hands, and invited me

of course come in,

I give you a charger

when a door opened and a girl just stepped in front of me

she was also very surprised

but immediately gave me two welcom kisses

"My mother took up a stranger again, ok, doesn't matter" she would have tought :D

ok, but they were preparing for dinner

they told me to took a seat on the couch, and I started to charge my phone

ok, I was waiting, when a guy has appered in the room, he was speaking english, which was strange

I didnt know who he would have been,

I was waiting for my phone

but nothing has happend yet

then they started to have dinner, I was asked about joining them, 'would you like to drink water, coke, wine?'

soup? stake? something?

come on, check it out?

salad?

I said thank u and refused it

it was strange because we were talking half french half english

they were talking me as well during dinner

what is this filmmeeting?

what are you creating?

20 minutes have passed

nothing has happend with the phone yet

I started to be afraid about the battery died finally

it has been a piece of shit for a long time

I had to ask a laptop to solve the problem

The woman said, of course you could

but she wanted to found her facebook password before I would log out from her account

but it went successfully

I started to write you to aks some help about the adress

When I realised that at the dinner table the girl was trying to introduce her new boyfriend, the guy, to her parents

It was so strange

the were eating, smiling while I was sitting on the couch

and was typing as hel on a fuckin AZERTY keyboard

where every character were totally mixed up

You have to type SHIFT for the numbers :D

Then I finally got a telephone number

ok, i had to get a phone cause mine didnt work

So I asked about a phone :D

I called Victor

He was so confused about my situation

-I am 1 minute from ur flat

-Ok, but where?

-somebody's flat

-What??

But we could make it clear

So finally I started to leave

But they wanted to give me some food

They were happy for meeting with me and something like that

They said that they would check our films

They were interested about our script

Trying to involve me into their conversation

and the woman came after me, because she wanted to tell me a little anecdote

She was so happy about meeting with me

she hoped that it was a nice experience for me

because it is very important when u are in a new countra or place to get good experience

she hope that they could give me a king expression for me,

and she hoped that I enjoyed the time with them, and the time in Grenoble would be a nice memory for me in the future

I went to the street

When Victor has finally arrived for me

He asked me about the late :D

Yes I was in a 1 hour late

Then we went to the flat, which was fully of stuff like this high

Then we started to cut

And they realised I was just late in an hour

Then we were working till midnight

when the fire alarm immediately started to ring

They wantet to make toast in the microwave or at the oven I dont know in the room next to ours

There was a lot of smoke everywhere

Everybody was making the instagram stories

They didnt want to leave the building, insted they invited me to film what had happend in the kitchen :D

The a guy stepped out from the shower, through the smoke with a towel on his neck and he weared suit trainers, it was so funny

Then the surprised guy came from the reception and finnaly turned the alarm off

[Me]: Are we leaving?

[MPM]:Where?

[Me]:Home?

[MPM]: Yeaah, slowly

We are gonig to go to the bus

We will be in Paris till 7pm

on everything in the curiosity box. For this tshirt I asked Michael what is your current

favorite mathematical visualization and he said modular multiplication on a circle. I

said okay, basically what is that. He said, this is that The way this works is you have

a number of points and then you have a multiplier so this is forty points with a multiplier

of four. So one goes to four. Two goes to eight. All the way around, creating this cool

design. So we messed around for a couple of days on different designs and then Jake came

in and was like what if the design had a v for Vsauce. And we thought well, that would

be amazing. So we spent another couple of days with different numbers of points, different

multipliers and eventually it turned out that with forty and four emerges, the vsauce V.

So to round out the design, I'm a huge fan of seventies science fiction so the color

choices here and this typeface are actually based on the movie poster for Solaris so there

ya go. That's how this came together with Michael, Jake and I all putting our Vsauce

minds together onto a shirt. And everything in the Curiosity Box goes through the same

process so before this shirt is gone forever, go to curiositybox.com to get yours. Links

The Mystery of Fast Radio Bursts - Duration: 4:52.

[♪ INTRO]

In 2007, an astronomer named Duncan Lorimer discovered an oddly brief, strong radio signal

that seemed to come from an unidentified source in space.

Astronomers were baffled.

Usually, bursts of radio waves come in predictable, repeating patterns,

like the ones we've detected from stars called pulsars.

This was totally new.

At first, skepticism was high that this lone burst was important.

Sometimes weird signals turn out to just be glitches, or we find out that they're

caused by interference from communications equipment on Earth.

But with more research, astronomers confirmed that the signal wasn't just a glitch,

and it came from at least 3 billion lightyears away.

The question was: what caused it?

10 years later, we still have no idea.

Since Lorimer's initial discovery, we've found more of these signals.

They're known as fast radio bursts, or FRBs, which is actually a pretty descriptive name:

they're quick bursts of bright light in the radio wavelength range

of the electromagnetic spectrum.

FRBs last just a few milliseconds, and so far, we've only been able to

detect them from Earth by pointing telescopes in exactly the right direction

at precisely the right time.

But since we don't know where they come from,

we don't really know where to look or when to expect them.

Which is part of why we've detected less than two dozen FRBs so far.

In the past decade, astronomers have come up with a few ideas

about what might be causing them.

One option is that the FRBs come from collapsing neutron stars, the rapidly spinning,

ridiculously dense cores left over after certain stars go supernova.

If the neutron star is dense enough, it'll be overcome by gravity

and collapse into a black hole.

But if it's spinning fast enough, that can hold off the collapse for a little bit.

When the neutron star eventually faces its doom, its magnetic field will be ripped apart,

which could cause charged particles within the star to shoot out a quick,

bright burst of radio waves, in other words, an FRB.

Another possibility is that FRBs come from two very dense objects merging,

like black holes or neutron stars.

As they spiral in toward each other, the merger causes tons of energy to be

thrown out of the system, possibly in the form of a fast radio burst.

Researchers have come up with lots of potential explanations like these,

but they haven't been able to confirm any of them yet.

The other issue is that these explanations only fit single, isolated FRBs.

But in 2016, astronomers announced that they'd discovered 10 repeating bursts

that all seemed to come from the same source.

One possibility is that repeating bursts come from a magnetar,

a special type of neutron star that's super magnetic and spins especially fast.

These stars might produce FRBs when they send out flares.

But even though these explanations might make sense in theory,

they're all just educated guesses based on the types of things

researchers think could possibly send out brief, strong bursts of radio waves.

This whole field of research is still really new,

and astronomers don't have much data to work with.

But they're hoping to have a lot more soon.

Based on how the number of bursts we've found compares to

how long we've spent looking for them in different parts of the sky,

researchers think an FRB might reach Earth as often as every 10 seconds.

And they're trying to catch as many of them as possible.

Most of the telescopes astronomers use are designed to be really sensitive,

because they're trying to detect the faintest signals.

These telescopes can only focus on tiny areas of the sky at a time,

so they're not good at detecting unpredictable things like FRBs.

But FRBs are so strong that you don't need a super sensitive telescope to spot them.

Astronomers are planning to take advantage of that.

One of the most promising projects, set to start at the end of 2017,

will use the Canadian Hydrogen Intensity Mapping Experiment, or CHIME.

CHIME is made up of four, hundred-meter-long open cylinders with multiple antennas,

which will allow it to monitor much larger patches of the sky

than other, higher-sensitivity telescopes that can only monitor one small area at a time.

Using CHIME, astronomers think they'll be able to detect

more than a dozen FRBs per day.

Other projects are using telescopes that are even less sensitive, like one that will use

an array of ten 5-meter-wide dishes to search huge patches of the sky.

So, hopefully soon we'll be detecting way more FRBs,

which should help astronomers figure out which of their ideas are right.

Or maybe they'll find out that all their ideas were wrong.

Either way, we still have a lot to learn about what's out there.

Random Encounters - Duration: 12:37.

Hello, welcome to Dystopic Multiverse,

and today in a place considerably different from the usual one I want to talk about something I believe I commented upon, a bit,

even if it may have been superficially, which is random encounters.

And by the way it fits the scenery, you never know when a snake, or a spider, or something like that may show up here.

Anyway, Random encounters...

I, at least at first analysis, dislike using random encounters... Why is that?

Usually my stories, as a GM, have a path... or a webway of stories... that is somewhat previously determined.

This isn't necessarily good or bad, but I usually have an idea of where I want the players to get to,

with several ways of getting there. And this can be done in many ways, depending on the game and the situation,

but I very rarely use a table saying: in that region you may find bears, wolves, goblins or trolls, for instance.

However, I don't see this as always being something bad.

I've recently written an adventure for MYFAROG, which I'm still editing and all that, and only then I'll think about MMing it,

although I've kind of considered how I'd do it, but...

In this adventure, this story, not only because of the format of the story but also because of how the game,

how MYFAROG treats random encounters I chose to use this kind of content in it.

This gave me an opportunity to think about this in a deeper way than I had done thus far.

In games that have a more... Narrative focus,

I'm not sure this is the correct word, but a game that focuses more on what happens to the characters,

especially the interactions among themselves and with a previously determined antagonist,

there is little room for random encounters. You have a path, that either the players or the GM wants to follow,

like I mentioned about my games, and...

Something that appears out of the blue, with no links to the story being told, may do more harm than good to it.

You might kill a character unintentionally with a random encounter, for instance.

In settings, scenarios or games that are a bit more sandbox, random encounters allow the GM to improvise

reasonably well without giving up on having something somewhat prepared in advance.

This is the way I chose to use go for my MYFAROG story, and I think it fits well with the story I wanted to tell.

Evidently, it changes with every GM and group's tastes. But the way you can prepare in advance...

By planning the location, like "in here, this, this and that may occur... But you could also find nothing at all."

This possibility of suspense for the group is something interesting to have in the game, because when you put

an adventurer's group or whatever they are in an environment they don't belong to, there is always

the possibility of danger, be it snakes or spiders or whatever... Giant centipedes...

Or something a bit more dangerous, like a purple worm, or a werewolf, or the Tarrasque... Who knows?...

And this has appeal in specific types of story and with specific types of players.

Something I still can't consider as totally valid is taking the table from the book as presented,

and "in the book it says that in forest environments you may find this, this, this, or this", you roll and then the group meets them.

*sighs* To me, this sounds a bit excessively generic...

One option I considered very interesting, in the way it was presented by Mr. Varg Vikernes in MYFAROG

is presenting different behavior possibilities...

That creature has this much chance of being aggressive, or shy or friendly.

And especially along with the contents of "Travel & Treasures" (if I'm not mistaken) it brings still more options

in a random manner, so an aggressive encounter may happen like this, this or that...

A peaceful encounter may be several things as well, and you determine that randomly.

It sounds more natural than "You are walking in the woods and from the GM's roll you trip on a green dragon's tail!"

Kinda, you know...

Using as an example a game I played with Mr. Jeffrey Cape, using MYFAROG,

the group was walking in the woods after being asked to investigate what was going on in there,

our first encounter was a band of animals fleeing, so if I'm not mistaken that would be a shy medium game encounter.

and later on we found the cause of that stampede, which was an aggressive encounter with a giant poisonous centipede.

This was determined randomly, and Mr. Cape has a video on his channel, God Emperor Leto II,

where he rolls for these, and from these rolls he made in advance, he developed that one-shot's story.

This is interesting. This approach turns randomness into something... *sigh* Fun.

Something that awakens the group's attention and interest, even if it's just for a one-shot game.

"What's happening here?" There is a connection between events, a reason for them to happen.

Something I chose to use in this MYFAROG adventure I wrote was to consider the location, in that specific place

there is this much chance of finding a bear, or a mountain lion, or a... This or that kind of human,

each of them with different motives, interests and reasons to interact in various ways with the party.

So that sounds plausible like in a tailor-made story, an encounter specifically designed for that group,

the plausibility is there, but there is this random component, the...

Ha, birds!

So, there is this randomness that allows for... How can I say this...

This randomness keeps the suspense, the uncertainty even for the GM, if something will happen there or not.

Those are different narrative possibilities.

Of course having a delineated, specific path, like "behind door #2 there will be a troll,

and behind the next door there will be an Iron Golem",

this has its advantages, and if it pleases the group, great!

If you prefer more of a sandbox game, like for instance in a Werewolf the Apocalypse game,

by investigating this trail you find these events, and how you deal with them is your choice, as a player,

and the interaction between the choices made by the party and the GM determine how the story goes,

that's cool!

And if you know where you want the story to go, and have triggers in the fiction, so to speak, that will lead

the players from point A to B, but linking these points there are several paths with various possible events,

that's cool because, like I already said some 17 times, it feels plausible, it feels real.

If you go into the woods in a place you don't know, like where I am right now, not exactly here but going

some 500m, judging by looks, I may find snakes, maybe a jaguar, or something like that... Capybaras!

That's interesting as leisure for a regular person, or as an adventure for a group of adventurers.

Please tell me what you think of this, share your stories and experiences.

Something I need to say more often: check out Multiverso Distópico's page on Facebook,

also join the Torre do Mago pages, we've been working together on several things,

on translations and also developing content, which are gradually being made available.

Thank you for your attention and your patience, and I'll see you soon.

Hope you liked the song.

Great! So good bye for now.

And next time we have a surprise for you.

Surprise?

Yeah! A surprise for you also, Noah.
