The urban golfers
meet for one of the most important tournaments of the year.
Didi Keller has played urban golf for 17 years
and founded the first club in Switzerland in 2000.
Where should the ball go?
It would be great if it landed in front of PKZ,
so I could play the second stroke.
Golf in the city centre -
special softer balls make it possible and prevent
windows from being broken or people from being injured.
The target: a rubbish bin, a basket or a fountain.
The scene is constantly expanding.
There are now eight urban golf clubs in Switzerland.
Conventional golfers also play.
Christoph Kummer is a golf pro
and has played urban golf for several years.
It's good for a laugh.
It's really fun to play.
And compared to everything you know about golf,
it's completely different. A splash of colour.
Urban golf and conventional golf:
Actually the same sport and yet worlds apart.
Christoph Kummer practises regularly on the grass for the pro tour,
like here, at the Aaretal golf course near Bern.
Jeans are frowned upon, polo shirts requested,
and it's essential not to make a noise.
A sophisticated technique, after years of training, is his key asset.
I always compare it to an instrument.
If I now learn to play the piano,
I may soon be able to play a little song.
But I'd need to invest much more in order to play a really fine melody -
several years and lots of time.
Not so for the members of the Frauenfeld Urban Golf Club.
Their practice area: the school grounds in Wetzikon.
Here, the focus is on fun.
The special site leaves room for creative strokes.
Technique is secondary for these golfers.
Technique would probably be important for us too,
but some of us are not so good at it.
And for us, it's more about
everyone having their own technique, I think, and, yes, everyone tries
to get by with their own method and making the best of it.
So anyone can join in urban golf -
regardless of how experienced he or she is.
Back at the urban golf tournament in Frauenfeld - even the golf pro
is tested to the limit, despite well-honed technique.
Oh, go on!
Christoph Kummer doesn't view urban golf as competition,
but as an enhancement.
Conventional golf could learn from urban golf.
The informality is definitely a plus.
They really cheer each other on, that's great.
And yet very fair.
The ambition of the urban golfers has grown:
there are now European and there will soon be world championships
and an umbrella organization.
And, if Didi Keller had his way, things would continue like this.
We're really hoping
that we can achieve the status of a regular sport in this way -
elite sport is perhaps exaggerated right now,
but a regular sport
and a certain amount of recognition among other sports enthusiasts.
In the meantime, however,
it's about taking aim and hopefully hitting the target.
