Welcome back to the 8-Bit guy.

So, when you watch documentaries about early computer innovations, particularly the late

70s, early 1980s, most of the documentaries tend to focus on Apple and Microsoft, and

maybe IBM as the big innovators.

But, I think often companies like Commodore, and Atari, and Tandy don't get nearly enough

credit for the role that they played.

Now, most of my viewers are familiar with the Commodore 64, one of the best selling

computers of all time.

Well renowned for its great graphics and sound, but Commodore history didn't start with

this machine.

So, let's go back a little bit to the late 70s and figure out where it all started!

It all began in 1974 when Chuck Peddle and a group of engineers started up a chip fabrication

company called MOS Technology.

Most of these guys had worked at Motorola on their 6800 processor, and so they set out

to develop a compatible CPU known as the 6501 that could simply be substituted for the much

more expensive Motorola CPU.

As you might imagine, Motorola sued and to make a long story short, the 6502 was born,

which was pretty much the same chip but changed just enough that it was no longer completely

compatible with the 6800.

Of course, once it was no longer compatible with the 6800, customers would need some way

to test the chip out.

In 1976 Chuck Peddle also designed the KIM-1 development computer.

This was a single board computer that used the 6502, and could be programmed in machine

language from the keypad on the top.

However, later it was possible to connect a dumb-terminal display and actually run BASIC.

Programs could be saved to a cassette tape.

And, the computer proved to be popular with hobbyists as well as engineers.

The 6502 would go on to be a huge success and eventually found its way into the Apple

II series, the Atari 2600, the Nintendo Entertainment System, The entire line of Atari 8-Bit computers,

the BBC Micro, and of course the entire line of Commodore 8-Bit machines too.

But, going back to 1976 for the moment, MOS Technologies was bought up by Commodore Business

Machines, who at this point was primarily in the calculator business.

Chuck Peddle managed to convince Commodore Boss Jack Tramiel that calculators were a

dead-end business and that they needed to produce a computer to compete with the upcoming

Apple II.

So, in 1977 the Commodore PET 2001 was born, using much of the same design as the KIM-1.

Much like the Apple II, the PET was all inclusive, having an integrated monitor, keyboard, and

cassette tape storage device.

1977 was a big year for the personal computer revolution.

With the market introduction of the big 3, the Apple II, Commodore PET, and TRS-80 computer,

this was the first time that a regular person could buy an affordable computer without having

to assemble it themselves.

So one thing that is cool about the PET is that it was actually designed by the same

guy who designed the 6502 processor.

And if you look at the prices of the big 3, you'll see the PET was competitively priced.

Although the Apple II did have superior hardware, which we'll get into later, the PET did

have the advantage that it came with a monitor and tape drive, where the Apple II required

those as separate purchases.

So let's take a closer look at the design of the Commodore PET.

The first thing I want to draw your attention to is the keyboard.

It's insane, and it will drive you insane if you actually try to type on it.

One thing that isn't communicated well by video is just how small this keyboard is.

The main part, excluding the number pad measures 6 inches by 2 and 3 quarters.

Just to put that into perspective, my iPhone 6 will essentially cover the entire thing.

If you take this apple mini keyboard, because, yeah, this is supposed to be a miniature keyboard,

it is actually huge by comparison.

But the size isn't the only problem.

They layout is crazy.

While the keys are technically in a QWERTY arrangement, normally the rows are offset

creating these diagonal lines like this.

Not so on the PET.

They are squared up.

But the weirdness doesn't end there.

Look at this tiny space bar.

And look at the top row of keys.

Normally you would expect numbers to be here, but there aren't any.

Instead you have just symbols.

If you want to type a number, you have to use the number pad.

But what is even more infuriating is these symbols.

For example, if I want to type a Dollar sign or a number sign, I would instinctively press

shift before the key.

However, when I do that I wind up with a totally different character instead of the one I wanted.

And then there's the cursor keys.

Notice that there are only 2 of them.

One key goes down, and the other key goes right.

If you want to reverse that, you have to hold down the shift key.

So by using the combination of the cursor keys and shift you can cursor anywhere on

the screen.

Oh and see this little back arrow here, you might think that's a backspace key.

But, it's not.

It actually prints that character on the screen, and so when you make a mistake, and believe

me you will, you'll going to go to push this key and it's not going to fix your

mistake and you're going to go even more insane than you were before.

The actual delete key is all the way over here at the other side of the number pad.

So, to be fair, when this computer came out in 1977, most of the customers had never even

used a personal computer before or a computer of any kind.

And so, they didn't have any pre-conceptions for what a keyboard layout should be like

we do today.

And so, it probably wasn't quite as weird for them as it would be for us.

Let's take a look inside the PET, it opens like the cab of a semi truck, and even gives

you a little kick stand to hold it open.

Looking at these 16 RAM chips, you might think the PET came with a lot of RAM.

But, you'd be wrong.

The original PET only came with 4K of RAM.

These are 1K by 4-bit static RAM chips.

Being that cost was such a consideration for this computer, you might be wondering why

they didn't use the cheaper dynamic RAM, or DRAM?

Well, static ram was and still is today much more expensive than dynamic RAM.

However, DRAM has one drawback, it requires that it is refreshed every so often, which

requires additional circuitry to handle that.

So, when you're dealing with only 4K, it actually ended up being cheaper just to use

static RAM.

So, 4K is a ridiculously small amount or RAM, but it's worse than that because the operating

system actually needs at least 1K of that, leaving about 3K left over for the user.

So how much is 3K of RAM?

Well, the screen on the pet is 40-characters by 25 lines, meaning you need 1,000 bytes

of RAM, or almost an entire kilobyte just to store one screen full of text.

So, essentially you had enough RAM for about 3 screenfuls of text.

So, to be fair, though, the Apple II and TRS-80 only had 4K when they came out as well.

This particular PET has been upgraded, that's what this little daughter board is here, it's

an aftermarket 32K RAM expansion module, and that's why it shows 31K available to BASIC

on the boot screen.

Let's take a closer look at this cassette drive.

This was actually just an off-the-shelf cassette recorder that Commodore bought and slightly

modified.

You can see the whole unit is actually mounted, in a rather clunky way in my opinion, right

here on the bottom.

The cassette drive was really the only storage device available for the PET at first.

And with 4K of RAM, this wasn't much of a problem.

It wasn't until 1979 that Commodore came out with a matching disk drive.

Now, since the PET was never really designed to use a disk drive, they decided to use the

IEEE-488 parallel port as a means to connect the disk drive.

Now, unlike the Apple II, the Commodore PET has no card slots inside so there's nowhere

to add a floppy disk controller card.

So, what they had to do was essentially design an entire computer inside the floppy drive

unit, which would handle controlling the floppy drives as well as an entire disk operating

system.

So, if you take a look inside the disk drive, you'll see it's quite sophisticated, having

it's own 6502 processor, RAM, ROM, and I/O controllers.

The PET didn't really interact with information on the disks directly, rather it would send

commands to the disk drive, such as telling it to fetch a file, and then the disk drive

would take care of all of the work of finding the right data on the disk.

In fact, it could even copy files or even entire disks from one drive to the other all

by itself, just with a single command.

The PET was popular with schools and found its way into many computer labs.

And while the disk drive was expensive, one of these floppy drive units could actually

be connected to multiple PETs at the same time, thus saving space and money.

In fact, you can see this arrangement being used in this photo from a computer lab where

each table has 8 PETs connected to a single floppy drive and printer.

Let's talk about the screen on the PET.

The original model here is black and white.

A lot of people assume it's green, but that actually wasn't until later models.

The original one was in fact black and white.

In fact, there's not even any grayscale.

It's just literally two colors, black and white.

The screen was controlled by a clone of the Motorola 6845 CRT controller, which was also

used in the IBM CGA card, among other computers.

However, there was no circuitry here for color.

There's also no graphics modes.

I mean, literally, none.

No way to put graphics on this machine at all.

And what's worse is that the character set is in ROM and it cannot be moved, so there's

no way to modify what the characters look like.

So, you are pretty much stuck with putting characters on the screen and only the characters

that came built into ROM.

And that's it.

However, there are 256 characters using a special character set called PETASCII or later

just shortened to PETSCII.

The character set contains a lot of custom symbols and can be used together to create

rudimentary graphics.

There are also a set of 16 block character patterns that can be used to create rudimentary

pixels.

In fact, I wrote a program a while back called PETDraw, which actually runs on the PET.

It allows you to pick characters and place them wherever you want on the screen.

Of course, you don't actually need a special program to do this because the different characters

are on the keyboard itself, all you have to do is use the SHIFT key to type them.

However, my program makes it easier, especially if you're using an emulator with a regular

computer keyboard.

Plus it has a special pixel draw mode that automatically figures out which of the 16

block characters to use and allows you to freely draw in a matrix of 80x50 pixels.

This program is available for free on my website.

The PET actually does have two character sets.

I've been showing you the default, but if you type POKE 59468,14 then it will switch

to an upper/lower case set, which looks better for typing, but has fewer graphics characters. The

PET also had no sound..

I mean, like, literally none.

There is no speaker and there's no audio output anywhere.

However, early PET users figured out that they could use two wires on the user-port,

which connected to a handshake register on one of the I/O controllers and it could essentially

operate as a one-voice square wave generator.

Soon after, many software programs started using this method as the default method for

sound production on this computer.

Interestingly enough, the same concept will actually work on any of the Commodore 8-Bit

machines that has a user port, which is all of them.

However it was generally not needed because all of these machines already have a sound

synthesizer built in.

Eventually Commodore redesigned the PET.

For example, this 4016 model has a very similar look, but you'll notice the screen is quite

a bit larger, and now uses a green phosphor display instead of the black and white of

the original model.

The keyboard is redesigned so that it's easier to type on, however most of the weird

key arrangement I mentioned earlier still remains.

The cassette drive is gone.

At this point you'd have to use an external cassette drive like this one, or a floppy

drive.

The case opens in a similar manner, but the stand is in a different place.

Also the case is now plastic, instead of the metal found on the original PET.

Also, they have included a speaker inside the computer so it can produce sound without

needing to connect anything to the user port.

Notice this is a 4016, which basically means it has a 40 column display with 16 kilobytes

of RAM.

Although this one has been upgraded to 32K, which seemed to be the standard on later PETs.

But they also had several different models in this numbering scheme, with the high end

models having 80 columns display and as much as 96K of RAM.

There were also some other weird variations including one called a SuperPET.

The PET would later evolve into Commodore's CBM line of business computers which kept

a similar form factor, but much more ergonomic with a detachable keyboard.

I've never actually seen any of the CBM line in person, as I think they were mostly

sold in Europe.

However, the 40-column PETs seem to have the most software available for them.

And, generally speaking, software designed for the 40-columns won't run on the 80-columns

and vice-versa.

Next I want to show you a cool feature of Commodore BASIC.

Using the screen editor, if I press a the reverse key, it will change the text to reverse.

I can press shift and reverse to disable that feature.

If I press the clear/home key by itself, it will return the cursor to the top of the screen.

If I hold down shift and press that key, it will clear the screen.

Now let's see what happens if I use these commands in a BASIC program.

Once I type quotation marks, when I press the clear key, it just leaves this little

symbol.

Then, I can type some text.

Maybe use the reverse key.

It leaves another little symbol.

I can even use the cursor keys."

Now, when I go to execute this program, it will actually remember all of the screen commands,

which is cool because it makes formatting text in your BASIC programs very simple!

Speaking of BASIC, the PET used Microsoft BASIC right from the beginning.

And while the Apple II and TRS-80 did eventually offer Microsoft BASIC, they both used proprietary

forms of BASIC during the first year or two on the market.

And being that Microsoft BASIC was only design in 1975, just 2 years before this machine

came on the market, you could pretty easily make the case that this was probably the first

mass-market computer anyway, that actually shipped with Microsoft BASIC.

In fact, in the early PET models, if you typed in WAIT 6502,1 it would show an Easter egg

from Microsoft.

In fact, if you change the second argument in the command to a different number, it will

display the Microsoft logo that many times.

I've actually looked at the code and it is clear that Microsoft essentially encrypted

their name into this so that it could not be easily found.

Apparently Commodore was furious about this, mostly because space was very limited on this

machine and those Easter egg routines took up precious space on a machine where every

byte counts.

Despite the limited graphics and sound capabilities, there are no shortage of games for the PET.

Most of the games were designed for the 40-column version of the PET and there seems to be a

lot of incompatibilities between PETs with different keyboard types as well.

This version of millipede is surprisingly playable and enjoyable.

As is this version of space invaders.

Some of these graphics are so cleverly designed using the built in character set, that you

could almost be tricked into thinking these were bit-mapped graphics.

My friend Robin Harbron ported his RPG style game minimae over to the PET as a fun project.

There's also a pretty darned good version of Tetris available, and it even uses digitized

sounds, but it requires a digital-to-analog converter connected to the user port, similar

to the Covox system that was available for the IBM platform.

The Commodore PET has also made it into the demo scene a few times.

Most notably this demo by ORB, which exploits a new found way to display graphics on the

PET.

What they're doing here is using some critical timing to reset the video chip every scan

line so that it only displays the top line of every character.

So by carefully using characters who's top row of pixels more or less match up with what

they need, they can almost do pixel-perfect bitmaps.

This demo also exploits the use of a SID chip if you happen to have one installed in your

PET and then it would sound like this.

Of course, Commodore never put SID chips in the PET, but it is certainly possible to wire

one in yourself if you want.

Not that there's a lot of software that will support it, though.

So, one mantra I've always had when talking with inexperienced computer users who are

afraid to try things on their computer.

Is, I'll aways tell them "Look, there's nothing you can do.

Nothing you can type on this keyboard or click with your mouse that can possibly damage the

computer.

The worst thing you could do is erase or corrupt some data, and that can always be restored.

However, it turns out in the case of the Commodore PET, that advice is not always true.

It was discovered that on certain models if you typed the command POKE 59458,62 it would

throw the CRT display out of sync, and after a short time could actually damage some of

the circuits and burn out the display.

This was referred to as the KILLER POKE.

So apparently my mantra doesn't always hold true after all.

I think I'll go ahead and test the killer poke right here on this machine.

After all, this isn't mine, it actually belongs to the Obsolete Geek.

I'm borrowing it from him.

Surely he won't mind.

Steve Gray decided to modify his PET so that it could display color on an external monitor…

and eventually integrated the color CRT inside of the PET.

This required extensive modifications to the logic board and Kernal ROMs to make this possible,

but it is certainly a neat project.

The Commodore PET has also been featured in countless movies and TV shows.

Just to show a few of my favorite, you can see one in Star Trek II, the wrath of Khan.

It's apparently part of Captain Kirk's antique collection.

You can also clearly see one in many episodes of the IT crowd.

Apparently Steven Hawking used one as shown in the movie The Theory of Everything.

At the end of Terminator 3, when they arrive at the fallout shelter, you can clearly see

a Commodore PET behind John Connor.

And in the movie Wayne's World, the local TV station has a Commodore PET in the office.

So, the PET makes a great collector's item.

And, if you have room for one in your house, they make a great thing to put on display.

And it's definitely a good conversation starter when people come over to visit.

But, truth be told they're really not that great of computers to actually use.

And, I know a lot of vintage computer enthusiasts and I don't know anybody who really wants

to spend hours on end sitting in front of a PET.

I mean, they're pretty cool to look at, and they have a really cool place in history,

but they're not really all that much fun to actually use.

So, in the next few episodes I'm going to be covering the Commodore VIC-20, and the

64, Plus/4, 128, etc.

And one of the things that you're going to see about those designs is that they were

not revolutionary, rather they were evolutionary from the PET.

And you're going to see a lot of technology carried over to those machines.

And so, many of the characteristics of those machines can be traced back to their origins

here at the PET or perhaps even further back all the way to the KIM-1.

So anyway, stick around for those episodes and thanks for watching!

Makeup for Beginners : What Is A Face Primer? How to Apply + Why to Use It - Duration: 16:56.

today I'm gonna teach you guys everything you need to know about makeup

primers now I know as a makeup artist makeup shopping in general can just be

extremely extremely extremely overwhelming like literally I can go

into Sephora get lost and not go out with any products because I can just get

so freakin overwhelming like I have all these products saying that they're gonna

change my life and do all these miracles for me and then they just end up lying

it's like a bad boyfriend you know it's mmm I don't even know how I even got

through it being a makeup artist like two years ago I literally knew

absolutely nothing about makeup I you couldn't even tell me that there was a

difference between an eyebrow pencil and eyeliner like I I knew nothing but now

I'm internationally certified Beauty and special effects makeup artist oh yeah

that's me in two years I'm not saying that I'm an amazing makeup artist but I

am saying that I'm working on becoming the most educational makeup artist out

there for you guys so first of all we're gonna talk about why you really need a

makeup primer yes you need a makeup primer why because I want you to think

about your face as a wall if you've ever done any painting if you've only ever

done any home decor or rehab like home read has like rehab you might know a

little bit about painting so if you don't know anything about painting come

with me okay we're just going over here don't

worry don't worry so like here's my face here's the wall let's think of these two

things like in similarities because in this situation we're going to think

about how my face and they ball both the primer okay well I'm talking for a

second and I'm going to show you here there's holes in the wall and there are

some imperfections in this wall and I really hope you can see like there's

this and all these small little imperfections same thing with my skin I

have a whole bunch of pores I have red spots I have dark circles I have a coily

days I have pores I could go on and on about all the imperfections of my skin

have let's come back Alizabeth world okay so my skin

and the wall both have a lot of imperfections before putting on it base

coat on this wall I will put on a paint primer because a paint primer will help

to smooth out the imperfections it'll help to smooth out all the holes in the

wall so that when I paint when I put the paint on you don't see those

imperfections or they're a lot easier to cover up the same thing with a makeup

primer the same exact thing no make a primer and paint primer don't ever use

paint primer and your face like they aren't actually the same thing but they

do the same thing to have the same action so in that same sense a makeup

primer will help to cover up and fill in your pores it will help to hide any

redness if you have oily skin it will help to diminish or absolutely reduce

the amount of oiliness that your skin produces throughout the day if you have

dry skin and the correct primer will help to add some life and lumina

Illuminati some Lumosity to your skins all you'll have more life into you and

you won't look so dry and dead skin ish if that makes sense so there are a crap

ton of different primers out there there are lovin area primers there are primer

masks there are drugstore primers and any section there's a whole bunch of

thousands of different sub sections you could go through certain brands are

certain like some primers make for its getting some primers that for dry skin

like there are so many to choose from so how do you know which one is the right

one for you well that's when we're gonna get to in a hot second so first of all I

just want to show you my collection of primers I don't have a whole lot of

primers and a lot of the partners what I have I've gotten through subscription

boxes so I have a primer mask that I've never used because I wouldn't talk about

it in this video so this is from bio Belle and this is supposed to enhance

radiance minimize pores and even my skin tone with this primer mask

I have Rimmel stay matte primer one of my favorite primers all time I have

maybelline baby skin primer which are that's it for my drugstore then I have

color effects illuminating primer I've makeup for ever step one

skinny equalizing primer I Smashbox photo finish primer I have to face

hangover RX primer pore fessional it's from well it's supposed to be from

benefit but I bought it off Aliexpress it's from kiss Beauty it's supposed to

be a pore reducing primer and last but not least I have Make Up For Ever step

one skin equalizer primer one of all those primers each private does a

different thing each primer has a different use for different skin

problems and that's what you're really using a primer for is to fix some of the

problems your skin has for example I used to have or actually I can talk

about this one if you make up forevers step one skin

equalizer is great to use if you have redness for example I have a lot of

redness around here I have acne so if I'm looking just to cover up the redness

on my skin I would use a skin equalizing primer you may also find primaries that

are marketed as helping to fight redness because they have a tint of green to

them if you're looking to fix your redness you'll want to use something

like that on the other hand we have oily primers that help to reduce the oily of

your skin my favorite drugstore primer of all time because I have oily skin is

the Rimmel stay matte primer I love this I've had this for good while this is

always always always my go-to primer for myself and my makeup artistry credit

clients then you have things as as masks these I don't even know these are work

but they're out there so I'm gonna answer your questions so each of these

primers all have one thing in common they all have a consistently thickness

to them some of them will be white some primers will be on the greener side just

depending again on what you're looking to change about your skin you want to

use a makeup primer because if you want a smooth makeup application using a

primer will help to give you that it will have to give you that flawless

finish that not one looks good but also stays on all throughout the day if you

spend half an hour putting on your make we're gonna want it to stay on all

throughout the day right well if you don't use a makeup primer that's not

going to happen so here's the Rimmel stay matte primer this is a thick almost

looks like lotion um this is $4.99 in the drugstore it's a little candy cane

is so cute but as you can see it's very white I also have the Too Faced hangover

found the primer which comes in a pump bottle that I just dropped yes I did

let's see how this looks okay can you click new like thank you so

as you can see this looks a little bit more liquidy than the stain matte primer

now the reason why is because they stay matte Franco which is this one right

here helps to also fill in pores which in turn will help to stop or minimize

the reduction production of oil this on the other hand is not meant to do

anything like that it's helped to bring back some life into my skin the hangover

RX primer is really meant for people who have more dry skin so this is a little

bit more moisturizing because it's meant for people who have dry skin if you have

dry skin you're looking not to keep yourself matte but to bring some life

back into your skin and that's exactly what this primer does so as you can see

these two are both white then we're gonna head over so they make up forever

step one skin equalizer primer let's see how this one looks now as you can see

this is a lot more nude looking it's got a tan color with some green undertones

to it why does it have green undertones to it you may ask because it's meant to

help equalize your skin or give you a nice smooth blank canvas if you will to

start putting on your foundation with this is also a little bit on the thicker

side it kind of looks like play-doh in a sense if you think of it like if you do

the wands it looks like play-doh a little bit we

also have the Make Up For Ever step one skin and equalizer this one is to help

hydrate your skin this one is very very watery you can even see it moving down

my hand and as you can see the consistencies between the makeup forever

and the mega proof know that you faced what a hydrating prior are very similar

in a sense that there were watery because they are meant for drier skins

we have the Porefessional which is clear this is also a thicker side you can't

even really see it but it's on a thicker side as well as the Rimmel stay matte

primer that's because they're meant to fill in pores and order to fill in pores

needs something that has a bit of thickness and consistency into it to

pack into those pores to get everything nice and smooth the Smashbox photo

finish primer is obviously clear but it has a bit of a fog to it if you will but

that as well is Omni thicker side and then last but not least we have two

maybelline baby skin primer which is supposed to be a dupe for the Smashbox

photo finish primer these two are right next to each other this is Maybelline

this is Smashbox so these are all different primers they all almost look

different to each have their own consistency to them that's because no

product is ever exactly the same they're all made and marketed for their own

specific fixes like that makes sense I hope that made sense but can you mix

primers together like can you totally you totally can I always mix my Rimmel

stay matte and these Smashbox photo finish primer because I have large pores

especially in my t-zone area but I also need oiliness

I need like less oil on my skin so I'm just gonna get a little swatch of each

one and show you on my skin how they appear and how to properly apply I

probably shouldn't be using my finger but that's okay because my skin is clean

my hands are clean so I don't really have to worry about spreading acne so

here is my Rimmel stay matte primer I always always always if you are using a

pore diminishing primer tap it into your skin because just by smearing it on your

skin you can do this at first but once it starts getting a little tacky you

want to tap it into your skin you're going to want to tap it into your

skin because your pores think of your poor as AC or au this is your paw right

here by just smearing your primer on top you're only getting in the first top

layer into the poor by tapping it in you're getting into that pore which

means your pores by tapping it in are going to be completely reduced by the

size of their appearance that was backwards but you're also helping to

remove the oil production because you're getting everything in there nice and

like patted in so this is the Rimmel stay matte found it a primer as you can

see I already look less oily the side of my face does not have any primer ends

and right here does I look less oily but it's clear or white actually this is

white so you can only see that I'm wearing primer doesn't really look like

I'm wearing anything at all on the other hand I have the makeup forever primer

and this one has some color to it this one definitely does feel a little bit

sandy which is strange I don't know why I feel sandy feeling but you can't see

that I'm wearing anything it doesn't even look like I'm wearing anything at

all but the reduction of this pimple right here the redness to that is

definitely you can see a little bit of very adduction to it I didn't use a lot

of primer would be makeup forever I didn't put a whole lot on but by having

that reduction there and then putting on a foundation on top you'll have a

flawless finish and that's like the whole point of wearing primers to give

yourself a flawless finish and to have makeup stay at one all day on the other

hand we have the Too Faced hungover primer hangover primer as you can see is

very shiny and very wet on the skin you see how easy my hand is sliding around

I do like using a two-faced a hangover primer because it really brings a

certain life back into a face with my face so here's my face split down in

half here's the Rimmel stay matte primer and here is the Too Faced hangover

primer you can really see it the difference in my skin I have a lot more

low if you will call it to my skin a lot more luminous why can't I say that word

Lumosity to my skin and a little bit brighter looking this

is very dull looking but that's okay because I'm not wearing any foundation

but this side however looks a lot brighter more lifelike now last but not

least we have our silicon based primers which are meant to fill in pores I

always use the crap out of these in my nose area so I'm gonna get all nice and

close I have to look in my viewfinder because

otherwise I'll put myself in my face if you can already see it my skin already

looks smoother so again the same situation with the silicon based primer

for the pores your first might want to rub it in but once you're done rubbing

it in it gets a little tacky or you don't feel as much primer on your skin

you're gonna want to tap it in the same reason why that I talked about with the

Rimmel stay matte primer they really really like if we can get all nice up

and close you can really see a difference in the size of my pores and

the appearance of my pores now a pore of reducing primer does not always reduce

well if you're looking for a primer that reduces oil and the appearance of pores

you're gonna have to look for when this market as both of them I do not have a

single primer here that reduces both of them things both of those things

a primer usually is only marketed to help diminish the appearance of one

specific thing or to help hydrate your skin but I have all these different

primers on my skin and you can really see the difference like look very

luminous and glowy very matte a lot less red my nose doesn't look like it has any

pores on it whatsoever and then I kind of just mixed all of them right here and

put that on my chin area you can really see if you'd hunt hangover RX really

coming through and giving me some life but you can mix primaries and that's

exactly what I did here by mixing primers I'm kind of taking and making

one formula to fight multiple things you're not going to want to mix a

hydrating primer with a primer that helps to reduce

oil because that's kind of just combating you're like X&Y you're kind of

just doing like the same thing that wouldn't really make sense a primer mask

on the other hand this one says to enhance radiance and minimize pores I

have no idea if this works I can't really test it out but I would really

recommend a primer mask for somebody who has extremely dry skin and you're

looking to bring some life and like life and glow back to you because a mask is

really a great way to deliver a lot of hydration to your skin immediately not

have to take on a lot of moisturizer and cake on a lot of primer so that's it

that's everything you need to know about primer yes you can apply primer with

your hands you can apply it with a Beauty Blender or a makeup sponge or a

buffing brush you can apply a primer with whatever you so want as long as you

apply primer now I'm not saying that you have to because makeup is whatever you

want to do it's your thing that's how you have fun but applying primer can

really help make your makeup stay on all day as well as reduce the appearance of

blemishes fine lines in the same sense I use silicone based primer to reduce the

appearance of my fine lines um and just to smooth out your skin and give you a

great base to start applying your makeup hey everything you need to know

something's up in 17 minutes I hope you enjoyed this video and I'll see you in

my next one

DIY | How To Make Silly Putty (JUST LIKE THE ORIGINAL!!) - Duration: 6:23.

hey guys so we welcome back to my channel so for today's video I'm coming

to you with another DIY video because DIYs always work out for me right

DIY How To Make Silly Putty (Just Like the Original)

Hashtag Zoe

How to make silly putty

anyway today we're gonna be making DIY silly putty so as you can see I have my

eggs here they kind of resemble me cuz I'm an egg anyway um we're gonna make

easy, quick, fast, awesome, extravagant, weird, cringy, I'm just kidding we're

gonna be making DIY silly putty today so without further ado let's go ahead and

get into the video. so all you need for this DIY silly putty is 4 cups of water

which I have right here in my measuring cup conveniently placed and I also need

a 1 tablespoon of borax, which is the big spoon if you didn't know of or ox and you're

gonna make a solution and you're also going to need some Elmer's glue or not

on this but just glue just white glue so we're gonna be mixing 1 tablespoon of

borax into our 4 cups of water let's do it

okay so I have my tablespoon here and you're gonna be mixing it in to create

movement okay now I'm gonna take my glue and hold it a little bit higher a lot of

it hot now like this hot this much higher than the water solution borax

solution thing and you're just going to be putting it in

then I'm going to be taking this straw or any stick that you might have and

you're just giving you and mixing that and make sure to get the glue around

your stick then you're gonna take the stick out of the water and it should

look a bit like this I'm gonna take it off your stick and you're gonna knead it

together until all of the water comes out you're just gonna continue to knead

it and this is a really small one but obviously you can make bigger ones and

it's gonna eventually turn into lit af silly putty because who doesn't love

silly putty and obviously who would want just a boring white slime silly putty

people like color so you can make it whatever color you want but let's make

some more okay so now that we know how to make the general diy silly putty we're

gonna be making colorful diy silly putty which is way better obviously so I don't

know if you can tell but I really like the color pink today

really feeling the color pink so I think I'm gonna make pink silly putty so let's

do that so basically you're just gonna have a cup doesn't have to be pink but

like if it's pink Li like you're you're cool so basically I'm just gonna put

some glue inside this Cup okay or a lot of glue inside this Cup that works too

and then you're just gonna take whatever color food coloring you want obviously

I'm using pink like I just said a billion times and I'm just going to be

coloring my glue

now that we have peak glue which is actually really cool we are going to be

doing the same thing that we did with a regular white glue earlier so I'm gonna

mix my solution one more time just to get it in motion then I'm gonna be wide

it got remind me of the Charlie Charlie pencil challenge throwball okay so I'm

just gonna be pouring this in just like we did for the white I'm gonna make a

lot so now we're gonna be mixing it yeah this is gonna be nice I don't like it

already

so um all right so now I'm just gonna be

meeting it oh this feels so disgusting but it's

worth it when it turns into like the actual honey keep meeting okay honestly

after playing with this for a little while I can honestly say that this is

better than slime I know big deal because slime is like the trendiest

thing ever in life right now but seriously guys you should seriously like

seriously seriously try this it's so cool it's not

even and also it was so easy and it actually worked

that's a pretty big deal so anyway the final step in this DIY is of course the

eggs so if you don't know actual silly putty usually comes in little eggs so we

are gonna make our own I just got these from like the dollar store or something

they're just Easter eggs and I'm gonna put my silly putty inside of the egg

there you go your own DIY silly putty it fits perfectly and then inside and when

you're done playing with your silly putty to put it back in the egg and

store it for later I know it's crazy amazing if you guys try this out at home

make sure to tweet me pictures my twitter is just at hashtag Zoe and also

share this video to your friends your friends friends your mom your dad your

cat your dog your cousins and everyone I'll be really cool and appreciate your

help so much anyway I will see you guys in my next video

Seattle Taxes The Rich - Duration: 5:21.

A shout out of approval to the City of Seattle, Why? Because in recent days the

city of Seattle's City Council has taken a remarkable step. It has passed the bill

for an income tax to be applied to residents of Seattle:: 2.25 % on all

income over two hundred and fifty thousand dollars for an individual or

over five hundred thousand dollars per year for a married couple who file

together. Nine to zero was the vote of the City Council. So it's not only

happening in Seattle, it's happening unanimously and enthusiastically. What is

this about? The state of Washington is notorious across the 50 states for

having one of the most regressive tax structures in the country. What does that

mean? Regressive taxes, that's simply a term, means a tax that makes no effort to

take account of the person's ability to pay, who's required to pay the tax. We

have in the United States many such regressive taxes. Washington relies on

regressive taxes. It doesn't have an income tax. Income taxes have often, not

always, but have often been progressive, that is, the tax you're asked to pay,

takes account of, your ability to pay. So what the City Council of Seattle is

doing, is saying: we're not happy living in a state that taxes people without

regard to their ability to pay. We believe that to be fundamentally unjust

and unfair, which is what many members of the City Council said in their comments

about this decision. We would like to correct the unfairly regressive

structure of taxes in Seattle, by having a progressive income tax. The city of

Seattle estimates that the tax would raise about a hundred and forty million

dollars a year, allowing that city to improve its schools, its parks,

to relieve the burden of taxation on those least able to pay, to make the City

of Seattle a much better place than it is now. And how? By taking 2.25 percent of

the money over two hundred and fifty thousand dollars that a person earns, or

over five hundred thousand. A minimal burden on those at the top, for a maximum

benefit for the vast majority of Seattle residents, in fact, including those at the

top who will also get benefits from a better school system, a better park

system, and a less divided community. But of course, immediately a cry went up from

the Republicans, from the business community, from all those who stand to

lose, and they are going to fight it in court, and they're going to make propaganda

against it. They've already begun to do that, so it will be a fight. The people

in Seattle who've pushed for this know it. But a unanimous City Council and the

supportive mayor, indicate that the majority of people in Seattle want this,

which is one major reason why all of these politicians support it, and that

means the courts will be under all kinds of pressure, to allow the sovereignty of

the City of Seattle to be played out in this way that the majority of people

want. For those of you who may not know it, when the progressive income tax for

the country as a whole was passed over a hundred years ago, it too was an income

tax that exempted the vast majority of Americans from any tax on their income,

and was only intended to be a tax on those at the top. Over the last hundred

years, those at the top worked very hard to use their money to move the burden of

income taxation off of themselves, and on to the middle class, which the middle

class permitted them to do, since the middle class of the vast majority and

those above were a tiny minority, it was clear that the way the

minority got the middle class to buy it, was to buy the politicians so it was

difficult, if not impossible, to push against it. It is in a way, an enormous

step one of the things it ought to do, is to inspire, motivate, to create an

incentive to cities and towns across the United States to pass such a law, to get

such a law effective in the society. The question is whether this fight will be

won or lost. But our hats must go off to these people and to the City Council, and

to the mayor who've taken an important step in

correcting a fundamentally unjust tax system, not only in Seattle and

Washington, but in many other parts of the United States as well.

iPhone X: First Look - Duration: 6:18.

It's time for the world to meet the iPhone 10 just don't call it the iPhone

X the true successor to the iPhone is here and there's a lot of technology

packed into its 5.8 inch OLED package also getting announced today was the

iPhone 8 and the iPhone 8 plus so poor one out for what would have been

the iPhone 7s and the iPhone 7s plus the leaks were right the phones look like we

expected them to look it looked like this available in space grey or silver

but there's a lot of Technology perhaps we didn't know about first the screen

technology it's OLED and Apple said they waited on OLED for sort of obvious OLED

reasons it wasn't the best in direct sunlight wasn't the best for brightness

they said they fixed all of those issues creating a really bright and vibrant

display and they are dubbing this new display super Retina display and I think

most exciting and probably most importantly we finally have a true

higher resolution display from Apple this thing has a resolution of 2436 by

1125 you can do the math it's got a 458 PPI now it's by no means the highest

pixel per inch of any 5.8 inch phone out there but it is the highest PPI that

Apple has ever announced and they claim the screen looks absolutely beautiful at

least it appears to look really nice and it's got the same design that we

expected it is edge to edge with the cut out on the top for the cameras we're

gonna talk a lot about those cameras Apple is calling that whole cut out the

true depth sensors that they do a lot with the phone but the cutouts on the

left and the right are gonna do a few things so first one on the left is where

you're going to see your time on the right you'll see notifications like

your Cellular strength you'll see when it connects to Wi-Fi we're

also gonna use those for the UI as well our initial thought was that those areas

are going to be kept for only those notifications but actually that area the

screen is gonna be used in a lot of apps so if you're viewing a video there's

gonna be a cut out your video picture is the same way third party apps as well

so we're on the home screen only we see those notifications up at the top so

bear that in mind no matter what you're doing already have a little bit of a

cutout doesn't look to be a giant issue with the phone but the cutout is

definitely going to be there this is something I've been screaming at for

years and we finally have it from Apple we now have wireless

charging and I give Apple credit for using the Qi standard so any Qi

chargers but not you've got a wireless charger from Samsung or LG or Belkin or

Mophie whatever you want you can now charge your iPhone 10 and also be able

to charge your iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 plus but of course it wouldn't be Apple

without sort of their own spin on it so they announced something new called Airpower

the new technology it's gonna go in conjunction with a new piece of

hardware that can charge multiple i things at once you can charge your

iPhone you could put your AirPods on it and your Apple Watch series 3 which

got announced on it no kind of charg it all at once with a cool animations on

the phone that's not gonna ship till next year but you got to know at least

it's Qi wireless charging is here powering this whole phone is Apple's new

A11 Bionic chip in Apple's first in-house design to GPU should get 70%

better performance then last gen that's the same chipset that's gonna be found

on the iPhone 8 and the iPhone 8 plus there's new sort of neural networking

processing being done because thing doesn't have a home button and without

a home button don't have touch ID so enter face ID this is facial unlocking this

isn't like the old-school Android facial lock and we sort of looked at your face

and unlocked apples doing crazy stuff with the cameras here Apple's using

infrared and dot projection to actually make a map of your face and using that

reference when you want to unlock your phone so the way it works you'll pick up

the phone pull up to your face and it will presumably unlock now the demo the

Craig Federighi did didn't work the first time didn't appear to be overly fast

either perhaps that was just jitters or pre-release software but I'm hoping it's

going to be fast cuz a success of the iPhone 10 is gonna rely on face ID if

you want to unlock your phone aside from just looking at it you can now swipe up

from the bottom in fact that's where you're going to get home any of your

apps it's just a swipe up from the bottom multitasking is kind of similar

you swipe up from the bottom and then yeah sort of wait a minute and then

multitasking will show up and you can go wherever you want to go and you can use

the bottom to swipe between apps you can go swipe to the left to get different

apps or swipe to the right to go back if you want to launch control center you go

ahead and just swipe down from the upper right and that's where control center is

going to live it's a new way to interact with your iPhone Apple talking a lot

about a new experience with the phone how the user is going to interact and

it's all centered around that camera system centered

a lot around face ID so the cameras on the iPhone 10 went from this way to that

way but in that transition they gain dual optical image stabilization the

apertures changed a little bit they got support for of course the

portrait mode of the new lighting portrait effects which will work in real

time or after the fact and the front-facing camera now supports both of

those portrait things as well so you can take beautiful bokeh selfies or do

studio lighting with your portraits and pricing we knew this wasn't going to be

cheap it's gonna come in two configurations it's the same as the

iPhone 8 and the 8 Plus 256 or 64 GBs you're going to be starting at 999 dollars

you'll be able to place your pre-order on October 27th and it's going to ship

on November 3rd so in time for the holidays but after the iPhone 8 and the

iPhone 8 plus so I'll leave this question to you what do you guys think about the

iPhone 10 this is clearly the best that Apple has to offer it's a competitive

phone with a compelling feature set to compete against the best of Android but

is it enough to make you stick with Apple are gonna go for the lower price

iPhone 8 or iPhone 8 plus I really want to hear your thoughts on this one I'm

excited for the iPhone 10 I want to try face ID I want to see how it works and

if it works as promised it might lure me back to Apple I can't wait to get my

hands on it gotta wait a few more months to do so give the video a thumbs up if

you appreciate it for subscription always helps as well till next time

Saving Hellbender Salamanders | Joe's Big Idea | NPR - Duration: 2:56.

Feels like I'm holding a very animated ball of snot that's been working out on the weekends.

Hey guys I'm Maddie Sofia from Joe's Big Idea at NPR.

We are here at Yellow Creek in South Eastern Ohio relocating hellbender salamanders.

Look at that pretty face.

Hey buddy, are you ready to find a new home?

Greg Lipps, salamander whisperer?

Is that, what do you go by?

What's your street name?

My title is amphibian and reptile conservation coordinator.

Right, so salamander whisperer.

What are we doing here?

Well, we're putting hellbenders back in the wild.

They've been around 160 million years and now they're not doing well?

That should be a real concern for us.

So getting them back into the system, getting them back established, getting them off of

the endangered species list, that's really what we're trying to do.

We have a plan for the hellbender and that plan has two big components.

One is we have to protect the good habitat and restore the good habitat.

The second part of it is, take these babies and release them back into the wild

to bolster those populations.

And the two things are kind of useless without each other.

Look at that little cuddle puddle.

So are you going to let me release one of these hellbenders?

If you're careful sure absolutely, we'd be happy to.

I'm gonna do it.

So what we do is we start at the downstream end of the rock field.

We have a few folks in snorkel and masks and wetsuits and they're going up and and they're

finding these big rocks and then we're delivering hellbenders out to them and we're sliding

hellbenders underneath those rocks and they're free from there

that's going to be their place.

So what is actually causing these species to be endangered in this area?

What we're seeing in most of these populations is no youngsters.

And we think that's because of the habitat

and that habitat is being lost mainly through siltation.

It's all about the land use occurring around the creek that's really the largest driving

factor in the suitability of the habitat for the hellbender.

What keeps you coming back to these salamanders

and working day after day after day on this kind of stuff?

I absolutely love them.

They're fascinating creatures to be around but, the real driver for me is

I want to see them better off than when I started.

I feel this need that we've got to do something and we can do something.

We know the major problems with our creeks, we know how to rear animals in captivity,

we know how to do a lot of these things so it seems to me like, I'd feel irresponsible

if I wasn't out here doing this kind of thing.

The first time we did this and when I went back and recaptured one of those animals

and realized, that's an animal that lived its life in a zoo, we put it out here

and a year later I'm catching it and it's grown and lived on its own.

I wasn't ready for the impact that would have like wow this animal is now at home

this is where he's living.

And it's a great feeling, it's a wonderful feeling.

Maddie did you see the cake?

Unbelievable.

Unbelievable.

BREAKING: Mueller Asked to Resign | Top Stories Today - Duration: 3:43.

Slowly but steadily, people are beginning to see through the façade of Mueller's

supposed impartiality.

Recognizing that the special counsel is hardly conducting an "independent" investigation,

some representatives have requested that the special counsel resign.

Republican Arizona Rep. Trent Franks says that, "Bob Mueller is in clear violation

of federal code and must resign to maintain the integrity of the investigation."

His reasoning includes the reported friendship between Mueller and Comey which creates a

conflict of interest regarding the investigation, according to the Daily Caller.

Franks has accused Mueller of violating the federal law, which prohibits any special counsel

from having a conflict of interest and, as such, should resign from his position overseeing

the Russian interference investigation.

Trent Franks, a member of the House Judiciary Committee, as well as one of the most respected

conservative politicians in the nation, has made a number of comments questioning the

validity of this investigation, and says that Mueller "must resign to maintain the integrity

of the investigation into alleged Russian ties."

He elaborated, "Bob Mueller is in clear violation of federal code and must resign

to maintain the integrity of the investigation into Russian ties.

Those who worked under them have attested he and Jim Comey possess a close friendship,

and they have delivered on-the-record statements effusing praise of one another."

Mueller was Comey's predecessor from 2001-2013, and the two of them have had a personal and

professional relationship that heralds back to the Bush administration, where they worked

hand-in-hand.

"No one knows Mr. Mueller's true intentions, but neither can anyone dispute that he now

clearly appears to be a partisan arbiter of justice.

Accordingly, the law is also explicitly clear; he must step down based on this conflict of

interest," Frank continued.

If Mueller genuinely had a close personal relationship with Comey, it is more than justifiable

to ask the special prosecutor to resign.

Currently, Mueller is investigating Trump for potentially obstructing justice for firing

the former FBI Director, regardless of the fact that Comey had already planned in advance

to pardon Hillary Clinton.

Franks also brought up another important point, stating, "Already, this investigation has

become suspect – reports have revealed at least four members of Mueller's team on

the Russia probe donated to support Hillary Clinton for President, as President Trump

pointed out.

These obviously deliberate partisan hirings do not help convey impartiality."

It's impossible to maintain an illusion of impartiality with such biased and deliberate

hiring tactics.

In fact, seven out of the 13 identified lawyers that Mueller hired donated to Obama and Hillary

Clinton in the past – something that our president called out.

Judiciary Committee member says Mueller in violation of federal code.

Should Mueller resign immediately?

"The people that have been hired are all Hillary Clinton supporters.

Some of them worked for Hillary Clinton.

I mean the whole thing is ridiculous," said Trump.

He also mentioned that he was aware of the close connection between Mueller and Comey,

something which he described as very bothersome.

Sadly, many Republicans still haven't been convinced by Franks' statements.

Sen. Lindsey Graham said that it "could be the beginning of the end of the Trump presidency,"

should he fire Mueller.

Regardless, with these details, it's impossible to see how any person can see this investigation

as anything other than a political witch-hunt.

Should Mueller resign immediately?

what do you think about this?

What It's Really Like to Go Through Menopause - Duration: 2:20.

Hot. Hot. Hot.

I'm not ready!

No. Not me.

I'm not old.

Literally flames coming out of my vagina.

So dry.

It really is the end.

Like, it's like the last hurrah.

You better get it while you can, girl, because this is it.

I went to bed one night and woke up the next morning

in a totally different body.

I was a little depressed.

You just sort of fall into this little bit of a funk.

Who said there were any good

things about menopause?

I wear more white outfits than I ever wore before.

You don't have to worry about getting pregnant.

No more menstrual cramps.

No more headaches.

I immediately called my mom and said,

"What is going on?

You should have warned me about this."

She said, "I tried to tell you."

Like mija. That's la menopausia.

You know?

I talked to my mom. My mom didn't even tell me

that I was going to get my period.

And so, that was a surprise.

I would try to talk to my friends about menopause

and the changes that it has on your body,

on your sex life,

but unfortunately, people feel really uncomfortable

sometimes, talking about it.

It's almost like this shameful secret.

I definitely talked to my husband about it.

He totally understood, and he said, "It's OK."

My husband's reaction was,

"Sorry. I can't help you there."

My sex drive was definitely impacted by menopause.

I did want to have less sex.

Sex became more painful because

of the vaginal dryness.

A lot of lube.

Well, menopause definitely causes some pause, but

it's not the end.

So at first I hated it, and then I realized

there were things to love about menopause.

Relieves vaginal dryness.

Yay!

Looks like a tampon.

I haven't seen one of these in a while.

That's cool.

Oh. That's actually really nice.

I can add it to my collection.

Yay!
