Waching daily Sep 20 2017

Hey guys this is Veronica from behindthecake.com and in the past videos

I talked about dummy cakes and how you can use them to build your portfolio

your cake portfolio and I'm going to present to you this time on how to cover

a dummy with fondant and this is going to help you also to understand how to

cover our real cake with fondant. Okay the very first thing I'm gonna do is I'm

gonna grab my dummy and I'm gonna put some tape on the

bottom of the dummy and then I am going to put it on a cardboard

and the reason why I do this is so my foam or dummy doesn't run

around my area so this is going to prevent and also because when I'm

covering with a fondant I can move this and and firming around very easily okay

so I have the dummy here and what I'm gonna do is that I'm gonna have a

shortening

now that it's covered with shortening I'm gonna start rolling out my fondant and

I'm gonna put it on top of the cake or the dummy

okay so I got the fondant here and I'm add some shortening and

this is going to help me to condition the foam so it doesn't dry out that fast

we're gonna fold and pick up the fondant move the dummy and I'm just gonna drape it.

the very first thing that I have to do is get rid of that air on the top and

start glueing the top, the edge of the cake so it doesn't create an

elephant skin or any tear off over here

what you have to do is to pull the sides of the skirt, that is how it is called

and you start, you don't pull like this because you can tear it but you go

around it and you just kind of like push in the fondant

And there you have it okay so I have the two dummy cakes here and what I'm gonna do next is

just not put one on top of the other one because I want to create a two-tier

cake and if you want to glue them you can put a little bit of royal icing here and

then just place this one like this on top and now you have a two tier cake.

Ok so now that you have the cake you can decorate half of the cake or the front in a style and then you turn it

around and you have the back part of the of the dummy cake and you can

decorate it with a different style. Okay so I'm gonna stop right because

this one I am going to start decorating it with a fall theme so

yeah this is how you do it okay you guys I hope this is of help to

you if you liked the video please give it a thumbs up share with your friends

Samsung Dex Station Review - Duration: 4:07.

Samsung Dex Station Review

what's up guys my name is Mario and on this video we're going to take a look at the

Sam's index station we're going to cover what a deck station offers the design

how it works so make sure to stick around the video to this channel because

this is crabbing to a weekly tech video

you're probably wondering what is a tech station and what does it do for me first

of all let me get started by saying that as the release of this video the deck

station is only compatible with the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 the Samsung Galaxy

s8 and the SI plus if you look at you on one of these phones you will be able to

turn your mobile phone into a desktop computer before we move into the user

functionality let's take a look at the physical design starting from the back

deck station will offer to use reports that will allow you to connect an

external device like a mouse or a keyboard it will also come with an

Ethernet port in case you want to connect using the Ethernet cable for

faster speeds also it will come with an HDMI port to connect to an external

monitor or your TV towards the end you'll have a type C port to connect to

the power supply by the way the type C and the wall charger come already with

the deck station moving to the top it will have a pretty cool sliding cover

which will work for easy storage the built-in fan will help you keep the

phone cool that the sign will allow the phone to stay up by the viewing angle

while the phone lines up with the type C input located on the bottom which will

connect your phone to the deck station and it will also keep it charged up when

you dock the phone to the deck station it will automatically launch the

interface on the start of the screen it will prompt you for the security access

if any are set up on the mobile device you can still use the finger reader

sensor but it is not convenient having to reach out to the back of the phone

without disconnecting the phone from the deck station once you're in if you look

in the bottom of the left hand side you can find the apps button the recent

button and the home button in the bottom right hand side you will find a

notification bar in the miscellaneous settings as you will see on the top of

your mobile device moving into the users functionality the decks session will

allow you to launch your apps on a bigger screen using the keyboard and

mouse this will allow you to increase your productivity if you need to surf

the Internet work on multiple documents at the same time or even remotely access

your home computer you will be able to have multiple applications open and

display at the same time on the screen when it comes to sound you will be

listening to the phone speaker or the display itself if it has a speaker or

audio output you can also connect to bluetooth speakers or headphones you

won't be able to connect the audio using the audio jack as a

station will be blocking the audio output from the phone it will not allow

you to play any advanced games as a performance of the Dex session is

limited to the performance of your phone in fact even many of the mobile games

won't be compatible but many of the apps that you currently have installed should

be compatible and work pretty good overall it works good and is responsive

I'm able to launch multiple applications to navigate with no issues that doesn't

mean you should expect the same performance as when you do when you're

using the phone I do notice a lag if I start multitasking heavily if I try to

open many applications at the same time and start switching from one to another

I can see an impact on the performance when it comes to compatibility there's

some apps that work better than others some apps I'm able to open in

full-screen or change the viewing angle and access all the features while all

the apps are limited when you open an app you will get a message letting you

know if the app is compatible or if it some of the features are limited I'm

pretty sure that many of the apps will continue to get updates for better

compatibility especially if Samsung continues to push

the deck station in the future phones on the bright side it offers apps for decks

this is similar to the Play Store but it is only dedicated to apps that are

compatible with the tech station at the moment there's only a few apps that are

available in the apps for Dex but hopefully the list will continue to grow

as time goes by the purpose of this video is not to do a full review the

apps but if that is something that you interested on make sure to subscribe and

check out my other videos as I plan to do a detailed review about it I can show

you that I find it productive reading replying to emails texts and comments on

my YouTube videos but I'm more interested on what your thoughts in the

next session are or if there's anything specific that you would like to see on

the future video make sure to leave your questions concerns opinions in the

comment section below thanks for watching and don't forget to hit the

like button and subscribe to this channel for will to take

The LEGO Ninjago Movie Review! ** SPOILER FREE! ** - Duration: 2:30.

Hello just2good here,

and by chance I was able to attend an early LEGO Ninjago Movie screening at Disney Springs.

There will be no spoilers in this video, but as a whole,

I enjoyed the movie about as much as I did The LEGO Batman Movie.

It has the same structure, where the first act is fantastic

and filled with great laughs, and then the next two acts

never top that first act, but are still good with some nice humor

peppered throughout.

My favorite part of the movie was Garmadon.

Honestly, he might be the funniest LEGO Movie character.

Just about every joke hit with him

due to Justin Theroux's fantastic over the top voice performance.

If it was a different actor, the character of Garmadon

could've fell completely flat.

Dave Franco's Lloyd Garmadon character gets the most screentime besides Garmadon.

Franco does the necessary job of the straight man of the film,

I mean it wasn't anything incredible but it fit.

Besides Lloyd and Garmadon,

none of the other characters are fleshed out,

besides a bit of characterization for Lloy'd mom Koko and Master Wu.

The other five ninja are stuck to basic archetypes,

and Kai in particular has NO archetype or anything to him at all.

I'm fine with them focusing on Lloyd and Garmadon primarily,

but these other ninjas needed a bit more character.

They just... sort of felt... there.

I don't care if they stay close to the source material or not,

but in a way, the other ninja felt like dead weight.

The movie continues the LEGO Movie trend of having gorgeous animation,

but unlike the last two LEGO movies,

this uses a lot of none brick elements.

I'm not talking about the kragle - but rather,

the mountains, dirt, water, and leaves were all not made out of LEGO.

In a way, this felt confusing and out of place

when placed next to the brick structures.

However, the movie provides some great action scenes,

moreso reminscent of the LEGO Batman Movie,

with a touch of the Kung Fu genre.

As a whole,

the movie serves as a nice tribute to old school kung fu movies,

which I appreciated.

Without spoiling, a glaring flaw was something at the very start

and very end that just felt out of tone and unnecessary.

If anything, this choice limited more than it helped,

and seemed like a last minute tack on that hinders the resolution.

You'll know what I'm talking about once you see the movie.

So overall, while I liked this as much as the LEGO Batman Movie,

I think the quality was just one notch below LEGO Batman.

It lacked the necessary character development and touch of self awareness.

Either way, if I had to assign a number rating,

I'd end up rating LEGO Ninjago an enthusiastic 7/10.

This may either go up or go down on my second viewing this friday,

so stay tuned for a spoiler discussion after then for my final thoughts.

That's it for now, and I'll see you guys later.

Peace out.

Bye.

Successful Growboxx plantation with Prosopis and Cypress trees in Baja California, Mexico - Duration: 3:17.

We're here in Baja California, Mexico, where we planted in January 2016

10 Growboxx® plant cocoons with 5 Mezquites

and 5 Cypress (Mezquites are var. Prospopis).

We only gave water while we were planting, for the rest they never got any maintenance

Look how extremely hot it was here, this year

It's now September 2017, only a month ago the whole area was burning

We were very lucky to find that our trees have not died

So with this video we demonstrate that no matter how hot

you can always plant with the Growboxx® plant cocoon

This is a Prosopis

This is a Cypress

The trees have been planted with a length of about 25-30 cms

Most of them are now almost 1 meter

and they look very healthy

although you can see, that the fire came up to about 2 meters of our trees

And of course there was some damage

because it was so hot, some trees even burned

Here is a Cypress that suffered

On one side it's burned, but the other side is still green

It's incredible how resistant the trees get

if you don't give water artificially, but they have to find it themselves

which is the basic thing of the Groasis Technology, when we plant trees

After the planting one of the trees was attacked by a gopher

This is an animal that lives below the soil, and it eats the roots.

We left the tree in order to demonstrate what happens, if that happens.

Also to give more credibility to our video

This is again a Mezquite, it is almost more than 1 meter

Another Mezquite

And at last we have a beautiful Cypress

The Cypress really was very close to the fire

It's amazing that it was so strong, that it didn't suffer

The Growboxx® is still in good shape

and of course when it rains, it even still catches the rain

Look what happens if the tree is healthy, and survives with a good root system

This is the result of using the Growboxx® plant cocoon

It is now for sale and I hope that you are happy using it

if you want to avoid using drip irrigation

Thank you very much, this is Pieter Hoff from Baja California, Mexico

Subscriber Milestone Video! - - - A Quick Update - Duration: 16:55.

Oh ho ho ho. gotcha! yeah this isn't gonna be quick at all... sorry mates. today we're

celebrating an oddly specific YouTube milestone, and going incredibly in-depth

into the channels past, present, and future - with details on how you can be a

pivotal part of this whimsical YouTube journey. - before I begin I want to make it

clear that every youtuber and creator that I mentioned in this video will have

their respective websites linked down below. please give them some love and

tell them I sent you. I'm sure they'll appreciate it. sooooo. let's

begin. but first, some context. it was just over 11 years ago that I found myself

enthralled with the idea of getting into the movie industry. back when I was 14 I

was a microcosm of the Creator that I would eventually set out to become;

drawing and thinking up ways that I could make things for a living.

I loved mechanical things and cars and I toyed around with the idea of becoming

an industrial designer - or something along those lines but I've never really

nailed down what I wanted to be; always tearing things apart just to see how

things worked and several times I had piles and piles of skateboard bearings

apart on the floor just to see how swapping parts around would affect how

things worked. what pushed my interest towards the movie industry was the

onslaught of 3d CGI that had began barreling its way in people's homes and

piqued my interest in becoming an animator. you see I had a bit of a

rollercoaster of a childhood and these movies were my escape from what had

become my daily reality (we didn't really have a lot of money) one movie in

particular that jump started it all was 2007's release of Surf's Up

(so why are you guys here to interview me?) it's what we do... we're a reality film crew. (Should I know some of

the questions before we starte? just so i don't...) nahh, just... you know.. they're easy.

what with its crashing waves and paradise landscapes, it was the original spark that ignited

the flames. it was this thing, this idea that you could create any world you

wanted, and inject the details that simply didn't exist in the real world

that drove me mad. (I want to be there) sooooo... Autodesk Maya here I come! (oh boy) Maya

was such a challenge for me back in the day that after horrendously failing to

make a simple face I gave up on it entirely. no more movies for me here

folks! I I didn't really have the best computer

in the world and I was trying to use student versions of text tutorials to

make it. (not exactly the greatest resources in the world but what what can you

do) mum on the idea of being an industrial designer, I was getting closer

and closer to getting my driver's license and needing to buy my first

car so that I could get a job and maybe just maybe ease some of the family's

financial burden. I took the money that I had been hoarding and saving up since I

was 13 to try and purchase a vehicle and with just around 700 dollars to play

with my plans were just to buy a clunker and fix it up myself.

instead, my complete surprise! my mother had saved money over the years for this

very moment. a sacrifice that I'm forever grateful

for. my first vehicle, this 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee, began the start of

something new. I would spend countless nights at my grandfather's garage - my

hands stained with gasket material and nothing but the soothing clicking sounds

of a ratchet. it was these many days with my grandfather and this old vehicle that

sent me into what would be a passion that I'd see through for the rest of my

life. or... so I thought. ah graduation time a grand time for all yes. at the beginning

of 2010 I made the difficult decision to forgo an art career in favor of

something that I thought might bode best for me both in the short and long term

you see all of those hours turning wrenches and fixing things that were

broken had become sort of a thing that I never seemed to get tired of and I

decided the best course of action would be to make that my career I knew that I

couldn't possibly afford to put myself through a four to six year period trying

to earn an engineering degree so I opted for the next best thing to become a

mechanic it was something that I could get a job doing pretty much immediately

and it could always go back if I tried to go a different route and things

didn't quite work out as planned so I left my dinky little hometown of 550

people remember that number 550 to go to school in Wyoming where I got a job

while I was still attending graduated and was a master mechanic for quite some

time but I quickly realized that something was a bit off the industry was

not looking good in the tug of war relationship between the consumer and

the business was something I no longer wanted to be a part of and I began to

feel that creative itch again in 2012 I was introduced to a game called League

of Legends and by 2013 I found myself streaming the game nearly

every day I made a successful guide that reached a couple million views and was

generally feeling pretty good I thought I might have found something that was

looking for something that could be big something meaningful but that wasn't the

case after nearly four years of streaming I lost all motivation and

decided to call it quits I wasn't good enough at the game to be notable and

with my daily job I couldn't be consistent enough to warrant a good

following and rightly so and honestly I'm kind of glad I did not

because I failed but because I was doing it for all of the wrong reasons I was

chasing numbers fame fortune viewer accounts and followers all of the kinds

of motivation that I now know are unsustainable by the end of it I was

just completely drained I'd lost the will to go on you know something I

learned throughout my career and screaming tenure is that one of the

weakest links of the whole ordeal is the fact that both choices require a time

commitment that was very rigid and not in a good way

both my career in streaming required me to physically be there otherwise nothing

would be accomplished and I get paid if I'm physically at work and stream

viewers only get the experience they're looking for if I'm physically online

when they are which puts things in the bit of a pickle and no not the disguise

so in 2016 I was looking at the ways I could continue the fun that screaming

brought without that strict time constraints and thus began a

revitalization our brother had gotten me an old PlayStation 2 as a gift and I

decided to clear my mind by going back and playing the old titles that I didn't

get through as a child all right let's load this game thing up let's get it

started the games that looked amazing but I didn't have the coin to purchase

them and a whole man hope was that a good decision

I started playing a game series that I had somehow missed that completely felt

like it was made for me I mean look at this game it couldn't be more perfect

for the mechanic protagonist and he's a determination you go out and see the

world and all the attacking of the sick gadgetry oh this the space travel I

rejuvenated me decided to start something new and to begin creating

again after the release of the remake of said game franchise I decided that I

should stop waiting around for something to happen and begin doing what I wanted

to do this time for an entirely different set of reasons and so on May

22nd 2016 this YouTube channel was born originally named route 1 reviews this

channel didn't really get any content at all for months I found some old footage

from a friend from high school and then piece together a throwaway video using

movie maker just for the funds wasn't until my 25th birthday that I've really

decided to put my foot down and get to work

inspired by the YouTube channel regular cars we're a regular dude makes

straightforward and cynical reviews of cars cars that aren't very spectacular

at all I'm not taking my tail off it's Who I am

here I go

I started to make game reviews that did just that because I don't know about you

but having every single review be upbeat and happy when the game isn't very good

just seems and genuine now this one just assaults the air I made a promise to

myself that I would come out with a video every week no matter what so I

bought the dhobi Premiere Elements and began stumbling my way through learning

how to edit October 11 2016 began the official start of the channel I released

the first three reviews first of which being a way to drawn-out review of who

guessed it a Ratchet and Clank game these videos would be accompanied with

some behind the scenes stuff which turned out to not be very popular but

again I've quickly found out that doing game reviews was very time constraining

and doing a video week was just simply unsustainable

I had just purchased a new camera for behind the scenes stuff but I wanted to

keep getting better at making things so after talking to a co-worker who also

had a youtube channel about movies and such decided to go together downtown on

a very chilly night and just film some stuff we had no intention of what we

were going to film we just wanted to try out some things that video turned into a

silly cliche movie trailer spoofing the fountain footage horror genre which I

called ambiguous I felt like I had learned a ton in the few months that I

had my camera and decided to make a set of videos based off to the hours and

hours of research they had done in between work and making videos and

little did I know these would be the videos that would set my channel into

motion you see a lot of online tutorials have this problem of rambling on and on

about what they're going to talk about and the like subscribe follow shoutout

etc dragging on endlessly without talking about any of it so that you have

to skip the first 10 minutes to get anywhere you know kind of like the video

you're watching now except those videos are actually supposed to be like helpful

and teach you something this video was literally designed to be useless and so

I decided to try and make my tutorial videos as clear and concise as possible

quickly tell you what you're going to learn and then get right to it a final

game review was released on March 28th 2017 and I began the rest of my video

series on how to use a camera since I found the lack of videos that were

beginner-friendly that also went in depth

was about a month later when I was visiting a friend back home that was

introduced to the video series Marble Hornets which was a very cool concept

based on the Slenderman online mythos the concept was really cool and

intriguing and proof that you don't need fancy cameras or equipment to make

something amazing it took what they had and just rolled with it creating

something captivating and totally watchable rolling their equipment into

the story concept I basically told him my friend that I wanted to spoof the

series and began my new video series the connection moving the Slender Man series

in a serious not so serious kind of way there's no key today I have over 550

subscribers why is that significant well you see

here's the thing when I created this YouTube channel I didn't really expect

anything at all I didn't even know the direction the channel was heading or

what kind of content that I wanted to make I just knew what that I wanted to

make stuff for months and months and months I made videos and had pretty much

no one watching I could upload a video and not have ten people watch it I began

carrying about the numbers the time I was putting in but then in June of 2017

I was playing a crack in time when I had an epiphany

it was then I realized I had to stop wasting time I realized that we only

have so much time and we don't even know what that is why wasted comparing

ourselves to other people who cares how many subscribers that other person has

or how much better they are than me our circumstances and experiences are

different the only person I should be trying to win against is me

with this newfound motivation I began finding other things that would inspire

me on a daily basis and following some heroes of mine that turned out to be not

so far away I found a lot of inspiration and voice actors because their passion

for the craft is unprecedented and they got to where they were by pursuing the

craft the most notable ones being James Arnold Taylor rob paulsen and David Cay

I began reading Brian all gyres book directing video games 101 and things

really began clicking once I realized that I should make videos for the rush

that making them brings and not the rush of the numbers is when everything fell

into place and out of nowhere came what I had been asking for the whole time

first 40 subscribers then 100 and a few weeks later now I'm here 550 550 amazing

people my home town population sign used to say 550 but now it's down to 500 550

subscribers is significant because it's a place I'd never thought I'd be and I

never would have dreamed of as a child living in that small place with a

population of 550 so what am I going to do now you ask well since my epiphany of

sorts I've turned on the afterburners and I've been working on many things at

the end of the day I want to tell stories stories that can be told with a

visual medium that is movies and videogames recently I've decided to try

and pick up unity so I can create my first video game I've decided to pick up

coding and found it terribly difficult to find any tutorials that were for

complete beginners until I found a youtuber named clever programmer who

teaches Python in the exact way I was looking for since I started the program

I realized the lack of videos for the complete beginner for cameras so I'm

currently working on a video series that does just that starting with the super

basics with exercises to put what you've learned into practice before moving on

to the next video alongside those I'm working on a couple inventions which can

be disclosed in detail but are currently being worked on the connection is still

an ongoing thing and get squeezed in between the various other videos I'm

working on at the moment I'm also working on a portfolio website to house

everything in a concise manner as well as provide a space for the blog that I'd

like to work on going along with this website will be some other videos I'm in

the process of making namely a channel trailer for the YouTube channel as well

as welcome and thank you videos for my patreon

there's a motivational video on the way I've got several music videos I'd like

to work on outside of the tutorial Slenderman spoof Welcome videos learning

coding and teaching myself unity and the rest of the Adobe suite I'm trying to

work my full-time job so things can be a little bit hectic so where does that put

you well if you made it this far into the video I'd like to congratulate you

on your efforts this really was supposed to be a quick update and at this time

I'd like to take a moment to thank all of my viewers including you for taking

the time to watch and subscribe it really does mean a lot to me that my

hard work is appreciated by so many people

you're wondering in what other ways you can support the channel and help shape

the future there are several things that you can do I'm looking for constructive

criticism on my videos both the good and the bad and the best part about YouTube

is that it's relatively anonymous I've asked friends and family in my

circle to give me feedback but of course most of them want to be nice and say

it's really good I like it it's a nice gesture but it really doesn't help at

all fastest way for me to get better is to

know what I'm doing right and what i'm doing wrong and getting unbiased

opinions are really hard to come by so i'd like you to do me a favor and grill

me in the comment section tell me what you like and what's trash and don't be

afraid to hurt my feelings as long as you're not viciously attacking me which

i expect on the internet anyway some other ways you can get involved is on

social media I practically update everything I'm doing via Twitter and

then it gets posted to the channels Facebook page so if you're interested in

frequent updates you can find me there reason I don't scream to like and

subscribe and all the other blowup Facebook yes reviews just because that

would rather have people watching because they wanted to watch and not

because I asked them to I also feel like I still have a long way to go as a

creator before I can confidently consider myself top quality material and

that if I make enough quality stuff things will work out in the end anyway I

don't advertise this often horsley because I don't want to be that guy but

I do have a patreon page and every bit helps patreon is a place where creators

can get backing for what they do don't pay for hidden costs of being a creator

trust me there's lots of it kind of like tipping your waiter after a nice meal I

don't have lots of rewards on there because I want people doing it just for

the rewards I would much rather people subscribe and become patrons because

they enjoy what I'm doing and not because I told them to so consider this

whole thing a bit of a one-off the Curtis 550 how things have changed let

me know how I'm doing is the Creator your feedback is greatly appreciated and

thanks for sticking around for this long-winded video be sure to remember to

check out the links below for the other creators this video was inspired by all

of the gaming Brit show's content he's wrote over the years is inspiring

and I encourage you to check it out there's a bright future ahead and I'm

glad to have you along with me on the way

What is dragon and lion dance ? - Duration: 1:38:25.

Hello everyone, I am "Peanut" from Kwok's Kung Fu & Dragon Lion Dance Team

today we are practicing the Southern-style lion for a competition in upcoming Macau.

because we won champion in Hong Kong Open

and will behalf of Hong Kong for this competition

as we practice now, I can explain you about the lion props and costume

as you see, both players for "lion head" and "lion tail" have slightly different trousers

for lion head trousers, have a higher level decoration

when this player "lion head" put on the head's prop, his leg parts will be shown more

whereas, player "lion tail" will be covered by the "skin blanket" most, secondly the head player often step on tail player's thigh

the reason for lower decoration design, first easy wear out, second no slippery when head player sits on

this is Foshan-style head prop

it looks bigger and fearsome

the lips move upward

most people feel interested of the eyelid blinking

actually, there is a rope inside this head, when you pull the eyelid blink and the ear also move

there is skill for pulling this rope with right timing and strength in order to make it facial expression

faster pull will more smarter look

when you look inside, a pillow here for the player head cushion

and these are the handle position

you see a handle bar and a hole on both side

just similar to pick up a pen, people who is right hand side or left hand side

one hand for handle, another hand control the month open and close

modern style comes with a LED device inside the front head

now let's talk outside, you see two feather balls decor

in old style, there are many these balls, and they look so vivid when head shake

why so many in old time and only with two now?

it is all about the competition nowadays

if any of these decoration parts fall out on the ground during the competition, score will be deducted

and these feather balls are most likely fall out first

and a horn above, with a Hydrangea, a ball made of strips of silk

also called "Red"

instead of red, now modern golden color for old traditional ceremony

behind is the group name of where you belong to

besides the cute blinking eyes, the tail does too

most people think the tail is vibrated by motor

in fact, it is a stick

it is all about the tail player who hold the stick and shake it behind

people are very excited and like about it

when this trousers appear ? and why ?

it started around 80's 90's of southern culture

it original from the north part of China, and mostly will refer back its movement and prop where look more realistic

in contrast, southern-style lion were only stayed in kung fu mean of training

where it didn't look like a tiger appearance

with these trousers and shoes, now it becomes more like an animal

head player is holding like this

and tail player is wrapped to the "skin" which it easily fly over when jump

again this is the stick of the tail

when the player bend, his hand shakes it like this

and cover the "skin"

we talked earlier about the low decoration of trousers, now you can see the skin will cover it up

where the head player needs a high decoration, otherwise the thigh will be shown

the textile of this trousers is very common, except some feather decoration are added

so will increase thickness of it and I feel uncomfortable in hot weather day, compare normal days

we head and tail player wear common black shoes

and put on a claw decoration, made with cotton, sequin fabric and feather, look more realistic

we are not decided which lion prop go for competition, but we will soon make the decision

hello everyone, we are students of Kwok's Kung Fu & Dragon Lion Dance Team

I am Irene

I am CoCo

we are prepared well and ready to Macau competition

let's go

we are departure from Tai Kok Tsui headquarter

go to China Ferry Terminal and to take jet boat to Macau

attend 4th Asian Dragon & Dance Championships 2017

this is a big competition, includes southern, northern-style lion and dragon dance

and we are behalf of Hong Kong to compete all these 3 items

we are now in the departure level, because of many bulky luggage we have, we need to pay more extra cost

hello, I am "ah Chiu", welcome to 4th Asian Dragon & Dance Championships 2017

what you see is the practice of northern-style optional routine

people may not know the different of northern and southern-style lion dance

the first common is how to show the movement and its expression

both have many jumping

but the "jump place" have different

common is started on the ground

then move on equipment

for northern-style is the 3-table-pile-up setting

where southern-style have column-set

second there are different in move

northern-style have third player, a lion guide

southern-style do have "Big Budda Head"

however he does not involved in competition

in contrast, northern-style need a guide to take part of movement, and his skill score is counted

but southern-style don't have this part, only rely movement and expression

in order to get points

we are prepare for dragon dance, optional pre-arrangement maneuver

the dragon dance, optional routine, we just checked by the judges

why need check? it's because the judges make sure there are difficult stunt movements in the maneuver

in order to get difficulty score 2.0, you need 20 sets of these stunt movements

otherwise points will be deducted

so that we need to show judges per stunt set

whether the difficulty is counted or not is based on the judges

for the southern-style, optional routine, was passed this morning with 10 difficult stunt movements

and approved for the difficulty score 2.0

first, all players have to complete the difficult movement as a whole

second, the dragon body has to be round and smooth body when move

let's have a look

of course, there is mistake, so we need to adjust the timing and speed

let's see our dragon prop closely

how about the dragon body first

simply a textile with color

and sequins attached

it look pretty when spot lights shine on it, and twinkle

inside, there is a "dragon frame"

10 players dance the dragon, include a "dragon ball"

there are 7 of these frames

with the ball, head and tail, total of 10 players

this frame is made of plastic, able to dis-assembly

tight by screw

also with a aluminium pole

after assembly the pole thru the hole in the body

then there is a cord of the "skin" to tie up for position

to avoid the frame move around 360 degree

and bend the iron wire to a circle shape

to support the body looks even more fat when the skin cover on it

material contain of the head are:

paper

bamboo strip

bamboo stick

and aluminium frame

first the bamboo and aluminium make up the frame

then cover with paper, 4 - 5 layers for last longer

after dried, paint with color

inside the head, there is a rope

didn't see this at the body part

for what purpose?

between the head to body, the tension is very high when dancing

so the rope is extended all the way to body from the head

this may keep the tension on this rope only

it won't keep tension on the "skin"

the skin will last longer

( is this textile with any elastic ? )

there is no elastic of this fabric, it is a satin, very thin

if we choose thick fabric, i.e. denim

it is very heavy indeed

it is very difficult to dance

because it is a competition, we have to minimize the body weight

but overall keep the color and in shape

the tail structure is also same

it is similar to the head

the frame is composed of bamboo and aluminium

then covered with paper and fabric

painted with color and sequin attached finally

very alike

haven't weighted the whole dragon but the head standard weight of competition is 2.5 Kg

( do judges need to weight it ? )

yes, before and after the competition, we will discharge the head for them measure

( how about the body weight ? )

no required, but the length is limited to 7 feet from "dragon frame" to "dragon frame"

for luminous dragon dance, it is 7.5 feet each section

because the requirement of its dance movement higher, the longer body would easy to perform the dragon-look

however the regular dragon dance need more piggyback ride and human pyramid stunts

the shorter body would make easy to dance smoothness

( what is the total length ? )

it is around 70 - 73 feet long

the head can't lighter the standard, but you can weight over it

( do they have standard minus or plus ? )

can't lighter than 2.5 Kg, but you can have 3 Kg, even 4 Kg, as long as you can capable

here is the venue, Macau Forum

in this big competition, there are 3 big sections: dragon dance, southern-style and northern-style

within these sections, there are subdivisions: Compulsory and optional routine,

speed and obstacle race

there is addition of luminous dragon dance

and one addition of traditional southern-style lion dance

for dragon dance, we attend the optional and obstacle race

for southern-style lion dance, we attend optional and speed race

for northern-style lion dance, we attend compulsory and speed race

total of 6 items

the length of the pole-set is 14 meter long, width is 0.65 meter

the shorter column is 1.2 meter high

the tallest is 2.5 meter high

the step plate diameter is 0.32 meter

column to column distance is vary from 0.7 to 1.4 and 1.8 meter long

now is 6:30 pm, it is finally our practice time section

this question is often being asked: head player and tail player, who is hard ?

it seems head player always hold and dance the head prop

and tail player seems not too moved much

but always bend his body

the head player jumps with head prop but tail player brings both weight at the same time

who play more harder ? each player dances with each job

when both have to jump over the column-set, the head player must replies and trusts on the tail player

" given my life to his partner ! "

tail player must have a good responsibility because he takes care every movement

secondly is the safety, when tail player holds up head player above high, head player has the higher risk

so that tail player must protect head player in all kinds, can't throw him away if fall out

that is why a good personality with responsibility heart is a must

( I've seen you carry something in bag )

this bag is our Kwok's souvenir, the Pennants

to exchange with other teams ....

up-side-down

to get know each other

the upcoming competition is northern-style lion dance in compulsory routine

you can see 3 tables in pile right there

the different between compulsory and optional rountine is

compulsory is following the International Dragon Lion Dance Rules with rountine sets, includes line and movement etc., no alterative

whereas, optional may allow to pre-set 10 difficulty lines and movements

for compulsory, music must follow International Dragon Lion Dance Rules

the first team is Macau, then Hong Kong after

chief judge, Mr. Law

for this northern-style lion dance part, I would like to explain and show you the prop and its structure

before the competition, judges request to check the props at the entrance check-point

to check and measure the prop if meet the requirements or not

simply, you see here are the "skin", Lion head" and "lion ball"

there is requirement for each item

lion ball is very simple used by the "lion guide"

it's little complicated of the lion head where it is different from southern-style lion head

the head prop is smaller, and...there are 5 bells around the neck

mainstream with lion feather on side and 2 balls made of strips of silk on top

lion head can be made of carbon-fiber, and this one is made of plastic foam

carbon-fiber is harder, heavier but it is able to perform certain movement with it core head feature

whereas foam is lighter and however you can't use it for certain roll-movement because it is too fragile

for us, we chose this foam-make lion head, it is because lighter and easy to maneuver

now is the "lion skin", it is all covered with lion feather

it is heavier than southern-style lion's skin

because it original comes from north, more feather and very thick, hard to move, but it looks more like a lion

for inside, you can see two openings of sleeves for player hand and arm get thru

also there is a belt for tail player fasten

no limiation of the length, it is short and non-elastic, so it is limited to move

for the player's costume, no big different between head and tail

except head player comes with one extra costume because both arms will be exposed which looks un-realistic

that's why the head player need a long sleeve to cover his arm up and look more realistic when playing

it feel so hot because arm and whole body covered by feather

this trouser is also covered by lion feather, and there are two strips on shoulder to prevent falling off it

the decoration is DIY, made of glove and stuffing with cotton

it is a common flat black shoe, and decorate it like a claw

it doesn't function too much for jumping

a shoe insole is added personally

let's talk about the lion head inside

some people may interested to know

two type of material were mentioned previously, the plastic foam we used now and more lighter

second is a harder carbon-fiber which make noise when knock on it

the internal is similar, with rubber bands, bamboo or metal frame to make eyes blinking

if I pull here, the rubber band trigger the device to make eye open and close

usually hand grips on here to make easy to control eye blinking

the feeling is soft of this foam material and good for control with its light weight

but carbon-fiber is much harder

the appearance is similar, a mouth with a lower jaw for head player who can open or close it

this opening is even let head player to see outside, and allow to grip the lion ball or throw the lion ball to "lion guide"

in tradition, this head is made of bamboo and covered with paper skin, stickers feather and then painted with colors etc.

now it is less people doing so, because too complicated

where carbon-fiber or plastic foam is manufactured by a mold in mass production

if made of bamboo, time consumption and cost is higher as we know

we are at the athlete's waiting area to match out for the opening ceremony

we will form a line and hold high the Hong Kong Flag

we just checked our southern-style lion dance, optional pre-arrangement maneuver

the head prop is measure the size and checked internal if any device is installed, e.g. stop-watch

because timing is counted during the competition

also to avoid people put communication device, e.g. walkie-talkie

I don't know high-tech camera in future use or not

that's why the inspection is needed, if everything ok, then go ahead

this is our music instrument set, many different instruments are used, e.g. suona, flute, wind gong

among all teams, we have most vary instruments

the lion usually jumping at the beginning when first notice this pole-set, most likely refer as a high mountain or kind of difficult barrier ahead

the lion discovers the "vegetable food" ( Chain) above on the mountain also, and try to over come this barrier to get it

the lion is looking for a suitable place to climb up this mountain

actually the head player only sees outside environment thru the open mouth or while lift up the head prop

on the other hands, the tail player keep bending over and can't see anything ahead

so that it is very difficulty to jumping on the pole-sets because both players don't see much, so they have to know this sets' layout very well

in fact, tail player always looking down on the floor, his job is to work in coordination with his teammate's movement

head player shall be good at jumping and light weight

tail player shall be strong and response fast

in case the head player doesn't jump sufficient or in correct direction,

then tail player gives the last adjustment

we called this stunt movement "drift twist 360"

tail player is hanging over and rely on head player to twist him around

the head player now can see very little, he mostly can't see any from this angle

while tail player is looking down the pole-sets bottom

after first set of movements, the lion now is attempting to move forward

the lion character is careful but skeptical, in other words is intimidated

if the lion is very brave, there would not have a story, then lion could go straight ahead for food

this imitates a cat movement , rubbing body and neck etc..

the following music instrument special background is a suona, other teams are less likely adopt it

you can see the difficult that both players step on the same small plate, the space is limited and very precise to "touch down"

and now head player steps on the pole itself

must be very precise because the surface area of the pole even smaller than the plate

tail player doesn't hang him on air, instead a skillful technic keep him in place

now the lion finds out the food actual location and look aroundv

the background music instruments are special used in northern-style lion dance and dragon dance, called metal cymbals

this jump is 2.8 meter long and step backward

actually both players don't see the plate behind, players must know the layout very well

the lion is finding...... take a big breathe and get the food

holding head player up above direct from below to tail player's thigh is very skillful and strength

and this tail player falls down and grips the head player's belt

the lion now gets the food, and check with any poison or hunter nearby, so search around more few times

the bad thing here is the "skin" flip over and tail player can be seen

this is a "throw up" of the food, the lion supposed is a gentle animal, long story but in short, the lion just taste the food instead of eat it up

now downhill after "eat"

just like a cat, lick up its claw

feel happy now

this is a "kowtow" gesture at the end, also make kowtow in beginning as politeness

point can be deducted if not doing this kowtow

players are also giving a salute

( how do you feel of your performance ?)

ok

the competition is just over, our team and Thailand are same score

so what to do ? the score will be counted on highest difficulty points

and the judges are re-calculating and let's hear the results

southern-style lion dance on column-set, optional routine, the results are:

1st place is Malaysia 9.23

2nd place is Thailand 9.11

3rd place is Hong Kong 9.11

( 3rd place )

I am very satisfied, not even think of it, mission is completed

because both team are same score, one of the judge parameters is to count the most stunts

because Thailand team does more stunts number than us, so they will be ranked higher

( is this a cheer hug from Sifu ? )

yes, Sifu isn't happy for the pass weeks, we just tried doing best and made him happy, turn out that we did so well, we are happy too

( does he hug people often ? )

he doesn't, he should feel very emotional

you should interview to him too

make a wish

don't cry !

cut all the way, best wish from year begin to year end

1, 2, 3, happy birthday to Irene !!!

upcoming is a dragon dance in obstacle race

you can see it is setting up now

there are some poles, bridge, and fence, like Equestrianism but in dragon dance form

to cross the column, and jump over the bridge steps

jump over and cross under the fence

dragon body pass some stick-out without touch them

all about to count time, the fastest the winner, time is added if one's make mistake

speed race is similar to this, except less barriers but more movements replace, also counting time

upcoming is northern-style lion speed race

first have a "stand-up" formation before move on the excerise

also counting time

instead of crossing the finish line, the lion guide hits the metal gong to end the race

now is nighttime and it is dragon dance

there are (1) Compulsory and (2) optional routine

we attend the optional

while it was the southern-style traditional routine in afternoon section

Hong Kong team didn't attend for that

this is the player for "dragon pearl"

the costume reflex on the character

dragon always chases the pearl, it refers as the spirits of dragon

this is the story why explain dragon always chase the dragon pearl

there is a distance actually between the dragon and pearl, but it looks both move simultaneously in speed and timing

it makes illusion that dragon head is following the pearl, however the pearl is corresponding the dragon

therefore the dragon pearl's player should know the movement well and move in advance

this is a new creative move, all players make cartwheel side-by-side

it is hard to make the dragon body look smooth while doing the stunts

you can see no concave/convex at each "body joint", all smooth in curve shape

you can see a player holds 2 body joints "double-pole WuLong"

a pause occurred here, which is not good, not smooth

sometimes dragon pearl may not appear in front of the dragon, depends on the coordination

this is a jump over stunt where all players can't step on the dragon body and body even can't touch the ground at the same time

head and tail both move simultaneously direction

instead of following front player, 9 players coordinate and know the pattern well, so that they know where to go next

again head and tail are simultaneously

1 player lies down on one's shoulder and 2nd player lies down on one's thigh by hug one's waist

when the players jump over the dragon body fast, the dragon must keep in shape, no convex

this jump doesn't look smooth

players rolling on ground while dragon keep dancing

one hand push up and another hand support the dragon

can't use the hand to support stand up, otherwise points will be deducted

this is an ideology form where the dragon is looking for the pearl

here again a pause, not good

this is a new creative stunt that 2 pair of players slide down to one's player thigh at the same time

this is "enhance" of jump over that 2 players work as a team, reverse the jump position, one at a time

the dragon dance is most likely harmony with the music, however, the maneuver is slightly moving faster,

so that they are waiting for music, this is no good

make a floor flip here

dragon in salute

again a player holds 2 body joints (double-pole WuLong)

need a good technique to get on ground with smooth dragon dance

"8 shape" formation laterally, each player must get into the exact spot in right timing

this is "4 in a roll", difficult is that all 4 players have to get into position fast

here is a mistake, a player knee down on floor, instead he should be sit on one's thigh

a fold

this is last formation

our head player did a mistake himself that a number badge was fell out,

this number badge is attached on each player's thigh that marked the position 1 - 9

you can't change position during the competition

this fall out number badge causes point deduction

BREAKING: Obama Slips Up, Exposes His Own Corruption | Top Stories Today - Duration: 3:33.

Now that he's left the White House, Obama is starting to show some interesting colors

his supporters may not have been aware of.

According to The Washington Examiner, now that Obama is no longer in the political spotlight,

he's been sidling up to the rich looking to cash in.

Last month, he was paid $400,000 to deliver a speech to Wall Street and has another speech

lined up for next week.

For former presidents, giving speeches to Wall Street executives, titans of industry,

and other such individuals is a huge cash cow that can be milked for a long time.

CNN reports that Hillary and Bill Clinton were able to make more than $153 million for

speeches given for 15 years, and they were only making $200,000 a speech, half of Obama's

going rate.

Despite Obama's perceived irritation with Wall Street for not paying its "fair share,"

he doesn't seem opposed to tapping into some of the profits through that venue.

Robert Wolf, an executive for UBS Group AG, says Obama's experience as president is

in demand and he never had an issue with Wall Street anyway.

"He was the President of the entire United States – financial services are under that

umbrella.

He doesn't look at Wall Street like, 'Oh, these are individuals who don't want the

best for the country.'

He doesn't stereotype," Wolf said.

His speeches may be an attempt to further the Left's financial agendas and cash in

at the same time.

What would be more troubling is if these speeches are somehow compensation for special treatment

during his time in office.

After all, according to Daily Beast, this was the same president who bailed out banks

and failed to prosecute those who caused the recession in 2008, while simultaneously supporting

the Occupy Wall Street movement.

The movement stated it was, "fighting back against the corrosive power of major banks

and multinational corporations over the democratic process, and the role of Wall Street in creating

an economic collapse that has caused the greatest recession in generations."

Obama wholeheartedly embraced this view, adding in his own two cents against lobbyists and

special interest groups.

Now that same President who vilified many on Wall Street is gladly accepting $400,000

checks from them.

Even fellow Democrats have turned on Obama, saying his paid speeches are "distasteful,"

reports CNN.

Former presidential candidate Bernie Sanders condemned the cash grab: "Look, Barack Obama

is a friend of mine, and I think he and his family represented us for eight years with

dignity and intelligence.

But I think at a time when we have so much income and wealth inequality…

I think it just does not look good."

It's ironic that any business would have an interest in Obama's financial opinions

considering he's the first president since the Great Depression to have created less

than 3 percent GDP growth, according to CNS News.

Admittedly there's nothing wrong with former presidents looking to make an income by giving

speeches.

Everyone would like to have a lucrative side hustle, after all.

The issue here is that the inherent hypocrisy of the man who vilified Wall Street to get

elected who would later cash out once his political career was over.

It also raises the concern of what back alley dealings he had going and how much crony capitalism

he engaged in during his time as president, and what new issues his financial dealings

and advice may cause.

what do you think about this?
