We are back with another controversial video! BALANCE!
Yes it's back.
Before we begin, I'll explain the basic format of this video
We will go over the opinions of the top 50 in KR arena who responded to a survey
Then we pick a representative of each class to interview them with the same questions in the survey.
Wrap it all up and discuss about the balance of each class.
Today's main protagonist is
Blade Master
In our previous video, Blade Master ranked 7th place based on the opinions of the top pro players of KR
It's… depressing..
But
do you remember Maksym of RMB Gaming who took 2017 World Championships by the storm?
They guy who demonstrated explosive plays and showed how a real Blade Master is supposed to be played.
So for today's interview, we bring in Maksym of RMB Gaming!!!

the guy who was standing behind him as a referee. Lee Jaejoon!

It seemed he had a lot to say. Other classes only ended up with about 4 to 5 pages of scripts.

Anyways
Lee Jaejoon is a person who showed up in many BnS Tournaments as a player and referee.
Many of you may know him as a referee. But know that he also participated in many tournament preliminaries as well.
We will never know what the future holds.
He may be a referee this year but he could possibly be a champion the next year. Like Jung Yoonjae
But probably not since he's a BM.
Anyways on with the first question.
First question. How long did you play BM in the arena?
For the arena?
For the arena well.. long time ago, I was a PvE player.
I was a PvE player during the 1.0 days who occasionally went on the arena.
But I really started to play the arena after the Clan Battle tournament.
It should be about 3,4 years
But during the first 3 years I just played how I felt like. Just instinctively, reactively
So just for fun?
Yeah just for fun.
But then they started teaching me on how to win.
Sim Sungwoo in my clan taught me on how to win and from then on I started to work harder
So I'm like so that's how you win and now here I am.
So virtually 1 year?
That's right.
You know that moment when you start to get it? When did that moment come to you?
What I saw is.. I didn't know any arena tips and knowhows.
I would make the same mistakes any beginners would make and don't know things like strafing after blocking
I used to log on a lot especially during that time I took a month off from work.
I think I started to see things after about a month
I concentrated really hard on looking for those things
like knowing when to iframe a pull or block a pull or how to make him waste a Knee.
And just like that I started to add one skill after another during that month.
Although it's still not enough
Let's see how other top 50 BMs responded
Since we're talking about the top rankings, a good portion of the players that responded played since the open beta 5 years ago.
Most answered 2 ~ 3 years
And about 3 answered less than 1 year
And now the important part!
Second question. What are the 3 easiest class to face, ranked 1,2,3 from easiest to hardest?
Let's see what Lee Jaejoon has to say first.
1st place would be Soul Fighters
SF?
SF is 1st place because BMs won't go in unless SF initiates first.
The system is set up so that the SF has no choice but to go in first.
Even if they are Earth and increase their damage
They have to close the distance to use Frost Nova, Ground Ripple or do any damage
But even if they try to close the gap, we can just use Backstep to get away.
And that smack (Howling Blast) can easily be strafed as long as you're at least 5m away.
So I would hold down strafe and just watch as he uses QE by himself from afar, fearing Soaring Falcon, Rush or Five Point Strike.
So I just wait for him to use Left/Right Advance and SS Five Point would usually hit
Even if he somehow manages to counter it, I would strafe and Rush him instead.
So facing SF is easy as a BM.
Next would be Summoners. IMO
Since facing Summoners is mostly about the burst
I think it mostly depends on whether if I have strafe when the Lunge comes in or if I can iframe the knockdown of Beckon
Even if I do get hit by that, BMs these days does a lot of damage
Honestly, if you can Rush, Draw, Lunar and Dragontongue 2 times, the Summoner would usually be left with half health
And since DT is an AoE skill, the cat usually dies too.
If the main body escapes away but the cat is still stunned,
You can just kill the cat… There are a lot of options to choose from.
Both can win with pure damage but Summoners have the disadvantage.
And the 3rd is?
If I have to choose, Kung Fu Master?
These days you can't say one has a definite advantage over the other.
But in terms of Windwalk battles, BMs are definitely better
If a BM wins the windwalk, and manages to force an escape from the KFM it's an easy game.
If the start ends neutral, then it's 5:5 with BM maybe slightly at a disadvantage.
Here are the results from the survey.
The easiest class to face as a BM is
KFM
Next is SF and Summoner tied at 2nd place
Ironic. No matter which class you ask, everybody puts Summoners as the easiest to face.
Which brings the question.
Are Summoners that weak?
Or is it because there are not that many top Summoners in the arena. Hmm..
We'll explore more of that in the Summoner episode
For now, let's ask what are the top 3 classes that are hard to face as a BM.
Firstly Warlocks
Since they virtually have 3 escapes total.
Escape, Void Walk and another escape with Time Distortion
If they time it well, they can even use it 4 times.
On the other hand BMs only have 1 escape
So they are at a disadvantage when facing classes with more than 2 escapes
Imprison is also unblockable and you have no choice but to get hit.
Even if you have Shoulder Charge, good Warlocks would mind game you and never use it until you do.
They know they have the advantage.
It's not too late for them to wait for me to use Shoulder or Backstep before using Imprison
If I'm coming in, they can cut me off with Tether Blade.
If I use my escape from one of Leech, Imprison, or Tether Blade then it's over after one more CC and Time Distortion.
It's hard to deal with their CCs
2nd place is Assassins.
It was always difficult to knock them out of stealth.
And maybe it's because I'm bad but unless I'm using the wall, they are really hard to deal with.
And as I said before, they have 2 escapes so it's impossible to get the upper hand in mind games.
You would have to get hit first
Assassins can hold down their Q and strafe out charge or counter with Decoy.
But even if we do manage to win a mind game...
Let say we won a mind game with a strafe.
The problem is the next mind game after they stealth.
It's very difficult to play mind games with them.
And the last is?
Blade Dancers
Rather than Force Masters
It's the same thing for Blade Dancers.
We just can't get the upper hand.
During the neutral game
If we use the iframe Shoulder Charge, then we can't kill them in one shot.
One of the fun aspects of BMs is that you can kill your opponents with one combo.
Blade Dancers only have one escape right?
But if we use the iframe Shoulder, we don't have enought CC to kill them
So I use the daze Shoulder Charge.
At the start I would iframe their Soaring Falcon with a backstep but then I can't use Block because of Blitzblade.
So then all I can do is to hold down strafe.
But they have their Five Point Strike which cannot be strafed 80% of the time.
So I will lose the neutral game.
Even if I have my daze Falcon, they have a lot of iframes
So if they just hold on to at least one iframe, it becomes really tough for Blade Masters to use their Soaring Falcon.
Warlocks comes in at 1st place as the hardest match up for Blade Masters
We will take a closer look in the Warlock's episode
but I think it's possible that the survey responses for the easier classes to face as a Warlock would reflect this.
In the BMs case,
the reason why Warlocks are so hard to deal with is because it's extremely difficult to trade skills.
If they use Warding Spirit, then it's impossible to survive Time Distortion
If they try to hold on to it then they could possibly just die
It becomes a real headache
2nd place is
Assassin
There used to be a time where Assassins and BMs fought on equal footing.
But then one day, the scales started to tip until BMs became Assassin food as we all know today.
3rd place was difficult to determine because there were many varying opinions.
Many even suggested Summoners, Destroyers, and Soul Fighters as well.
This time, we will ask a slightly different question. What are the classes you hate going up against.
1st place is Warlock. You would really want to throw your keyboard.
Next is Assassin
That's the same as before.
But I'm honestly fine going against Blade Dancers since it's mostly about big combos.
I would rather not face Force Masters?
They have 2 escapes and it's fun to play against.
It's fun to keep track of your chill stacks. But in the end, I end up losing.
I find myself in many situations where I'm out of iframes and frozen with my back showing.
Let's see what the other BMs think.
Unfortunately, Warlocks and Assassins rank 1st and 2nd place.
3rd place, strangely enough, is Blade Dancer even though they weren't really mentioned in the hardest class to face.
Then again, they could be a bit annoying to play against considering they are fellow sword users.
Next, I asked for opinions on how you would change the arena. Let's see what answers we got.
How would you improve the arena? (excluding rewards)
They should first remove dodging.
They should penalize like LoL.
Don't you think it's a bit strange?
Right now we can't queue again for 5 minutes if we force quit the game.
I think it should be increased to like 3 or 4 hours.
If you dodge a game, your points just disappear into thin air. Nobody else gain the points you lost.
At least losing on purpose would transfer your points to the other person.
Right now we don't have that many plats and a lot of golds.
I think this way we would have diamonds once again.
Let's see what the other BMs think.
1. Revamp arena rewards
2. Revamp all unblockable skills that have grown quite numerous
This is probably the most applicable to BMs
You still have to stand still to block.
But because they kept adding more and more defense breaking and penetrating skills, you can't use it freely like you used to.
I think that's probably what makes BM difficult to play in arena. Quite unfortunate
3. Add more ways to use beans
4. Revamp the matching system
It wouldn't be very fun to go against pro players at just 1600

They should definitely buff BMs
Although they are not a bad class there are a lot of similarly disadvantageous matchups
It's not like it's 9:1, 8:2 or anything,
but there are so many matchups that are like 6:4 or 7:3.
I know its a difficult class to balance but I wish they would do something about it.
There are not a lot of BMs and I think they should be stronger to attract more users.
Like Warlock or Assassins.
I hope they would change that. Though nothing specific.
