So if this is your first time to this channel.
Welcome.
This channel is all about helping you play better golf.
And one of the best ways to lower your score is to improve your short game.
And a lot of people spend a lot of their time practicing thier short game and they are hitting
multiple shots to the same target with the same club.
It's one way of doing it.
I prefer to do it a bit differently.
I think we should be trying to re-create what we feel on the golf course.
We want it to feel, smell, taste like golf.
So one of my favorite chipping games and I have already set this up here.
I have got a junior class starting here in a few minutes.
So I have got down here early.
And you can see I've got 6 cones set up all around the green here.
So I have an uphill shot breaking a little bit left to right.
I have got a straight up hill with a little embankment.
I have got another one that's a little bit uphill.
Then I have got another one that's a little bit down hill with a right to left slope.
I have got this one here which has quite a severe right to left slope.
And then I have got a shorter one with a little right to left down hill slope.
So we are saying it.
The rules of the game are.
We have got these little ah ring set up which is a 1 meter around the hole.
And then I've got another lot of these red hats that are another 2 paces in diameter
from there.
So they are effectively 3 meters from the hole.
So the rules of the game and there are a few different options we can do when we play the
game.
With the kids tonight we are going to say if they get it in the hole they get 100 points.
If we get it inside the inner circle they get 50 points.
If they get it inside the bigger circle of red hats.
They get 25 points and obviously if it's outside the circle they get nothing.
One thing I have learned about with kids is they can be awesome in hitting the golf ball.
But until such time as their fine motor skills develop they will be terrible at this.
I have run 5 classes already this week and it amazing how the kids just don't quite get
it.
The moment they start writing their name better.
The moment they start drawing pictures that look like pictures.
They start chipping and putting better.
So that is just a little foot note for kids.
So for us adults we are going to change that a little bit.
We are going to try and make it feel real.
Now this green isn't the greatest to putt on.
So what we are going to do is say is if we can get it inside that little circle it's
going to be a chip and we are going to give you the putt.
If you get it inside the next circle we are going to say its a chip and 2 putts.
And it might very well be that you do 1 putt it.
But for this exercise we are just going to say it's a mandatory par.
If it finishes outside the circle we are going to have a bogey.
So every single shot here requires a different club.
You need your full set of clubs.
The last thing I want to see is a whole bucket of balls down here and you are hitting multiple
shots.
I just want to do it with one.
Have a score card.
Write your score down.
So I have got 6 holes set up for our junior class because we are only doing this for half
an hour.
But you could do it for 9 holes or even 18 holes.
If you wanted to we could even include it in the bunker.
I think it's a really good practice method.
Now I am way out of practice.
We will see how I go.
I need to really work on my short game.
Because I am spending too much time on the bike at the moment and not enough time on
the golf course.
So the ball is rolling.
It has just hit the cone which stopped it a little bit.
It's finished inside that circle so I am going to give myself a birdie for that one.
I think I got a little bit lucky hitting the cone.
But who knows it might have hit the flag we don't know.
So if I was playing this game for real I would move to one of the other ones.
There is no flow we can go to any other one at random.
It doesn't have to be the same next one in sequence.
I think random works quite well.
And then you tally up your score.
You write it down and keep a record of it and you see what your PB is.
Great chipping game.
Really good for the short game and it does smell, taste and feel like golf.
Thank you for letting me help you with your golf.
