Waching daily Feb 1 2018

Hey Nicole Simonin here of Shape It Up fitness and so I am not feeling so hot today.

So I know I have to do a video for you guys today so I thought I would show you what I'm gonna eat for lunch...

ummmm.. well it's only ten o'clock in the morning so maybe it's brunch.

I don't know why I had this crazy idea but I decided to put some

yams and a turkey burger together...

that's not the bad part.

I decided to put an over easy egg on top.

I have no idea how this is gonna taste but if it tastes

good. I will share the recipe anyway 'cuz I'm sure somebody out there will

probably love it. I have a feeling it's gonna need a

little bit of bacon but I didn't have any bacon...

so but this is what I'm going to have for lunch today.

I'm going to show you.

okay so here's my final product

here I got my yams and a turkey burger... Applegate turkey burger and I have my

easy eggs and I will let you know how they taste.

Remember it's not so much of what you eat it's how much you eat and what the

quality of the food is.

I hope you have a wonderful day and I hope this

head cold goes away.

Remember to get fit to be fierce and have no limits.

I'll see you in the next Shape It Up video.

Oh my goodness this is really good!

it does need a little bacon a little salt maybe but this is pretty good.

Recipe listed below ;-)

The Big Game and Tooth Fairy Day - Lonely Holidays Episode 2 - Evite Original - Duration: 4:17.

- Sure, yeah, there are people out there

saying a sporting event isn't a real holiday.

But then every year, first Sunday in February.

What are those people doing?

They're getting together with friends.

Watching the game and celebrating me.

I don't know, sounds like a holiday to me.

- So, why invite another holiday to your party?

- Because, look man, I know I'm a popular day,

but I also know what it feels like

not to be taken seriously as a holiday.

So every year I like to invite a lonely

holiday over to watch the big game and have some fun.

I know it's my day,

but I'm just trying to spread the love.

- Hello everybody.

Are you ready for some foosball?

- It's football.

- This is very exciting.

- We got chips, dip, guacamole and the essential item for

every football party, especially the big game.

Is chicken wings.

- And confetti.

- We're you surprised when he reached out to you?

- Surprised? He's the big game.

He's one of the most popular days of the year.

Everybody knows him.

- I was happy to do it.

- I still can't believe it.

It's like a dream.

Pinch me.

- What?

- No seriously, pinch me.

No, don't do it.

- I wasn't' going to.

- Isn't this guy the best.

Nobody ever remembers tooth fairy day,

and he throws me a party on his day.

You're an absolute angel.

- Quit it.

I invited him to my party as a guest,

and I guess he thinks this parties for him.

- This is the greatest day of my life.

- So why don't you correct it?

- Look, a hundred and eleven million people

celebrated me last year.

You know how many celebrated him?

There was like one dental office in Connecticut that gave

away free toothbrushes or something.

And that was it.

I think he needs this.

Ah, happy tooth fairy day.

- I could do without the football though.

If you could believe it, I've never

actually seen a football match before.

I don't even understand what's going on,

but did you see how many people came to celebrate me?

Hazaaah.

- Boo.

- Yeah, oooooo.

It's harder than it looks.

It's dark, you're sneaking around.

Sometimes you grab the wrong thing.

I've mistaken quite a few buttons for teeth.

I took a kids glass eye one time.

One time it was a lady's wedding ring.

Why would you sleep with it under your pillow

if you don't want me taking your gun?

I grabbed a tooth from under the bed one time,

turned out it was a hamster.

What was the question again?

- Uh, what do you do with the teeth?

- Oh no, I'm not falling for that one. (laughs)

- Yeah.

- Dibs, that's a lateral incisor.

I heart football.

Also, I'm deeply in debt.

- I think it's safe to say.

He enjoyed himself.

- Oh yeah, I love football.

I even learned what a button hook is.

- Same time next year?

- It's a slam dunk.

- Touchdown.

- Touchdown.

Nailed it.

Slap hands?

- Wait, wait, wait.

Let's show em what I taught you, ready?

One, two, three.

Heisman.

- Heimlich.

- No, no, no.

You know, it's easy to forget that there are hundreds of

lonely holidays out there just sitting on the side lines.

I was happy I could give him some game time today.

And I think I made a friend.

He gave me this.

- What is it?

- It's the evite invitation.

He had it framed on his cellphone.

I'm keeping it.

Will Robots Take Our Jobs? - Duration: 4:33.

- Since the dawn of the Industrial Revolution,

fear of automation has been on the rise.

In the early-1800s, textile workers in England

got spooked by the rise of weeding machines

and sparked a rebellion so intense

that the military had to be called in to put it down.

When the automobile was invented,

people worried about what it would mean

for the horse industry.

And when the first computers were introduced,

office workers fretted about bookkeeping and other jobs

that had previously been done on pen and paper.

And who could blame 'em, really?

Those machines were coming for their jobs, man!

But if you think about it,

most of the great inventions of the past 200 years

have been designed explicitly to take our jobs.

And yet, the fraction of people in the workforce

is near an all-time high.

So, what gives?

If machines keep taking our jobs, and they do,

then why are there so many jobs left over?

What are we getting wrong?

The fear of machines goes back even further

than the Industrial Revolution.

When the printing press was invented in the 1400s,

people worried about the church scribes

that would be out of work.

Back in the 1500s, Queen Elizabeth vetoed a patent

on a knitting machine for fear

that her subjects would lose their jobs.

Whenever a new technology arrives,

we can easily see what jobs it might replace.

The problem is that we're really, really bad

at envisioning what kind of new jobs

might be born in the future.

For example, it's true that computers eliminated the need

for typesetters who used to place type by hand,

but they created demand for graphic designers

who set type, well, it's still technically by hand,

but it's fancier.

The idea is that when we passed off

some of the workload to machines,

it broadened the scope of what was possible.

We came up with new ideas,

new innovations, and new kinds of work.

In fact, many of the industries that are around today,

like electronics, health, medicine, finance, and insurance,

barely existed or didn't exist at all a century ago.

I mean, imagine trying to explain what an app developer does

to someone in the 1960s.

But focusing on machines that will replace jobs

doesn't appreciate how they might actually strengthen them.

For example, when ATMs started rolling out in the '70s,

they threatened to make human bank tellers extinct.

But banks quickly found that ATMs

made it cheaper to open new branches,

and the result was more branches and more tellers than ever.

Since the arrival of ATMs,

the number of bank tellers has doubled.

Why?

Well, once bank tellers were freed up from dispensing cash,

they started forging relationships with customers,

solving problems, and introducing them to new products

like loans and investments.

The net effect was that bank tellers

became more valuable to banking.

But that's the past.

What about the future?

Automation is accelerating and spreading

to more industries faster than we've ever seen before.

Machines are increasingly replicating skills

that we once thought were unique to humans.

AI algorithms are trading in the stock market,

recommending products to us,

and guiding airplanes through the sky.

Robots are being developed

that someday might be cooking your meals,

running warehouses, or performing surgery,

all by themselves.

So, is this time different?

Luminaries like Elon Musk seem to think so.

He's predicted that soon,

robots will be able to do everything better than us.

And Stephen Hawking has warned

that artificial intelligence will replace humans completely.

Lots of people seem to think it's only a matter of time

before these ever-smarter machines

make most of today's workers obsolete.

So, should we be worried?

So, it is different this time?

Well, yeah, it's different this time,

just like it was different

after the printing press was invented

or the assembly line or tractors or computers

or any invention that changed the world.

All of these new technologies transformed the way we work,

and adjusting to them wasn't simple, costless, or immediate.

But if the past is any indication,

this radical leap forward in technology

is at least as likely to create jobs

as it is to destroy them, even if these new jobs

might sounds as strange to us as an app developer does

to someone who's never seen a cell phone before.

Put simply, there's no way for us to understand right now

what those new jobs might be in the future

and, for many, that's a frightening leap to take.

So, what do you think?

Should we be worried?

Or is a fear of 21st-century automation

once again getting it wrong?

PO Box Unboxing | Unboxing Gifts From Viewers And PR Packages - Duration: 13:15.

(Marker scratching)

(Electronic video game chime)

Hello.

Please ignore mess - I am cleaning and decluttering

for when my PC gets here,

so I've been trying to get all the crap out from there.

So, I'm back in North Carolina

and I came home to a lot of stuff from my PO box so I thought

that I would open that here 'cause people like these videos so why not?

We'll go ahead and start off with some letters

because they're the smaller things.

I did actually get this letter

not too long before I left for Toronto.

I'm not gonna read, like, everything from the letters

because privacy but I just want to at least say thank you.

So, I got this Christmas card from Anna Morgan.

She is actually a pledge on my Patreon, so thank you very much for that, Anna.

I very much appreciate it.

This is another one from another patron of mine, Mark.

It's a cute little Christmas card. Look at that.

And there's some stuff inside.

What's in here?

It says "To Rikki" because who else would you be sending something to?

Winter wishes. Aww...

There's a little present inside. What is this?

It's like I'm having Christmas all over again.

Oh! How cute.

It's a kitty bookmark.

I don't know what you call them.

Is it magnet? Is it a magnet?

Ooh, I think it's actually a magnet.

But I could use it as a bookmark if I wanted but it's just a little kitten.

That's so cute. Thank you.

OK, so, this next one, I went ahead and opened it yesterday.

I didn't read it but I just opened it

because there wasn't a return address or even a name, so I got slightly worried.

So, I just wanted to open it.

Oh, I know who this is from. (Laughs)

Katie, hi!

Katie is a pledge

and she went to my YouNow streams very often.

So, now I know who you are, OK.

(Laughs) This is nice.

This is just a response to the other letter that I sent.

If you are a 25-plus patron on my Patreon, then you get letters.

We're basically pen pals.

And, for the longest time, people were not replying back

so I felt kind of sad but Katie's replying back.

That's awesome. Thank you, Katie.

We'll go with Taylor.

I recognise Taylor.

She is someone that likes

pretty much everything on my Facebook page, which is good.

Don't stop. (Laughs)

I don't mind at all.

Ooh, it's a Christmas card with a pug and a Maine Coon cat.

Aww...

This cat looks like one of my old cats.

Hope you have an amazing Christmas and a happy New Year.

Thank you, Taylor. This is adorable.

So, I have this next one from Chris.

Chris, did you take a picture of your house and then, like...?

Oh, you have a bunch of Christmas decorations.

ChrisGageTV.

So, if you want to go check him out.

Now I have packages. My favourite.

So, I got a couple of packages that came from Amazon

and brands and stuff like that.

It's a mixture of, like, gifts from viewers

which thank you so much and just brands.

So, I'm very intrigued by this.

Ai-Media sent me a package.

If you don't know who Ai-Media, aka Access Innovations is,

they are a closed captioning company and they have a Facebook page.

I make videos for them on their Facebook page.

So, they sent me a package and I had no idea I was getting sent a package.

Nobody told me.

The customs declaration says a notebook and a fidget spinner.

Oh, it's wrapped so nicely!

Look at this.

It's wrapped all nicely in, like, an envelope and it has a bow.

Oh, my god.

Ai-Media has their own fidget spinner.

Look at that. That's kinda cool.

And now for the most exciting part.

I'm sorry, Ai-Media.

It's not that I don't appreciate the fidget spinner,

it's just I love notebooks. (Laughs)

I have way too many notebooks.

In fact, I bought two.

And now here I am with another one.

And it's... Ooh!

It's their own branded notebook.

That's awesome and it's just black.

It has a red whatchamacallit

and it says Ai-Media.

I'm going to figure out what to use this for.

I think I need to use up my other 20 notebooks that I have, but thank you!

I have a package from Singapore from Ziming.

They are a...

They follow my YouTube channel

and they reply a lot on Instagram and I kinda know what this is.

On the customs, it says one Pokemon set of stationery.

Oh, look at that!

Ooh, there's a letter.

"Hope this package reaches you safely." It did.

Watching a few of your videos, it seems you like Pokemon very much.

This camera surrounded by all the Pikachus and Eevees

and a Growlithe did not give that away at all.

I wanted to send you this that I bought in Taiwan.

Ooh, I love Taiwan too.

OK, so, ooh!

This is a Pokemon phone ring so you can put it...

You know how you have the pop socket?

You have it in a ring form.

You know, like, that's so cool.

I really like that.

Ooh, it's a power bank for the phone.

They got chargers and then what the heck is this?

Is this a microphone? Dude.

Thank you so much.

These two things I'm very excited for,

especially this because I'm getting another phone soon from Apple.

So, I told myself I don't want to keep any more boxes

but I kinda want to keep this box.

And now we have...

Let's open some brand packages, I think.

So, I have a skincare package.

There is a girl that I fol...

A woman that I follow on Twitter named Nayeon.

And...Nayeon, Nayeon.

And I have been following her for quite some time.

She posts a lot about cruelty-free and vegan make-up and skincare.

And she's supported me every once in a while, you know,

by Ko-fi jar and all that stuff, so I've always been very appreciative of her.

And she just got a job being a PR for a skincare brand.

And she emailed me, asking if I wanted to try anything

and, well, skincare is expensive, so I said yes. (Laughs)

Yeah, so, Nayeon just asked me what I wanted to try and let's see.

So, this brand is called Klarif

and it was made by a man whose son had a skin condition

that was very hard to treat, I guess,

with what's on the market right now,

like, your mainstream products, so he made his own.

It doesn't say exactly what this is.

Oh, the black sugar face and body polish.

So, it's an exfoliator.

Oh, by the way, this video is not sponsored by any of these brands.

I just received these things for free and I wanted to do an unboxing.

The 2,000 years natural remedy hand and body cream.

This has coconut...cocoa butter, black cumin and rosemary.

I asked her what's good for dry skin

because my dry skin is terrible right now

'cause it's winter and I've been going to Canada and then here and oh, god.

And then I got one more thing, I think.

Let's open this before we do anything.

"Rikki, hope you love the samples.

Can't wait for your feedback.

Thank you for your support, Nayeon."

So, let's open this baggie.

Oh, there's a couple of things.

This is their...

This is a soap. Is this a soap?

Black magic premium Klarif original charcoal soap.

Lather into wet hair or between hands.

Oh, you can wash your hair with it? That's cool.

OK, this is the purifying pure hydrator.

You just spray this on your face and then it's supposed to help moisturise.

Oh, and this is the blood orange one.

This is the one I was most excited for because I love anything orange-scented.

And then this is the purifying facial cream, so another moisturiser.

I think this one I wanted more for my face

and then the 2,000 years one I wanted it for all over my body.

Thank you to Nayeon and Klarif.

I can't wait to try them.

I probably...

I don't know if I'm gonna do a whole video on it

because skincare is not really my thing here,

although I have talked about veganism a little bit so maybe.

But I will likely post something on Instagram.

If you want to follow me, @rikkipoynter,

and then there'll be an update on there if you're interested

or on Twitter or both.

So, if you've been following me long enough,

I had a guest on my channel for a really quick video

and she was offering free caption phones, Crystal,

and she emailed me a little while ago, a couple of weeks ago,

asking me if I wanted to support her new project called Smile and Nod.

And basically it's like a hat shop.

And I'm probably gonna do a whole separate video on it

but let's just open this.

OK, this is cool.

So, this says 50% of profits donated to Smile...

The Smile and Nod project is a movement

to create and promote awareness of hearing loss through a funding project

that assists in expanding the minds of communities

all over the country and perhaps one day the world.

There's two different colours.

There's this one and an olive one, I believe.

I think this might be a little too big for my head right now but...

Doesn't work too well when you have a bun.

But thank you, Crystal.

I will get a little more into detail about this in the future.

But, for now, let's move on to the next one.

So, the rest of my packages are from Amazon.

I do have a couple of Amazon wishlists.

I have a personal one.

I have one for books, which is also personal.

And then I have a YouTube/Twitch wishlist.

They all go together.

And I just have that for, you know, people like to look at Amazon wishlists

and people ask and they're like, "Do you have a wishlist?

"You know, in case I want to give you something or whatever."

But, you know, for the record, nobody's ever obligated to do anything.

You don't have to click on it.

You don't have to purchase anything.

It's just there.

I buy from it from my own pocket sometimes so just so you know.

So, let's start off with this package.

That sounded and felt breakable.

Actually I did look at...

I always look at my purchased section on the wishlist,

so I don't know which is in what.

Actually one of them I do because it's so thin

and I know what the packaging of the particular item looks like

but I'm not sure...

"Hi, Rikki, and enjoy your gift. From Shari."

Thank you, Shari.

So, these are the Tombow pens.

These are the mono-drying pens.

I use these to write letters with, write in my planner.

These are fantastic pens.

I have the third and the fifth point but I lost the first one,

the number one, the 01 point

at Canadian border control.

So, I don't know what happened to it.

So, thank you so much.

I love to have these. There are some of my favourite pens.

And then we have another one.

I'm going to assume these are all from Shari

because they were all bought at the same time.

So, oh!

Oh, what the heck is this?

OK, I had no idea about this.

Calm the F*ck Down - an Irreverent Adult Coloring Book.

What the hell?

What is this?

Who bought this?

"Hi, Rikki. Seems like something you'd appreciate.

Merry Christmas. Shari."

Oh, my god. It's so funny.

Oh, there's a colour test page.

That's pretty awesome.

"Calm the F*ck Down by Sasha O'Hara.

Also by Sasha - "Chill the F*ck Out",

"Happy Fucking Holidays,"

Cheaper than Therapy and Calm the F*ck Down.

This is so fucking cool, so thank you so much, Shari.

I had no idea that this was coming to my PO box.

So, that's awesome.

So, I'm guessing the other two things are in the next package

but this is perfect.

This is my first adult colouring book ever and this is a perfect...

This is so awesome.

And now the last one which I'm going to assume has two things in it

which is why this is so long.

So, here is a double pen case.

I needed a new pen case because I was using,

like, you know those mesh packing cubes?

I was using that as my pencil, my pen case and it was terrible.

I don't recommend it.

So, I got... I put this in my wishlist.

So, you're probably wondering why the hell

do you have pencils and stuff in your wishlist?

Well, I like to handwrite letters for, you know, to YouTubers with PO boxes,

especially when VidCon comes around and I like to ask them to caption.

I do both emails and handwritten letters

so it's just nice to have all my pens and stuff in one case

that's also pretty small and easily able to travel.

This is cool. Thank you so much.

I also write letters to, like, police stations and hospitals

about accessibility, so I print those off.

Like, I type those and print those off for professional.

So, I have a lot of envelopes and stamps in my wishlist and stuff, you know?

So...

There's also, you know, the Ko-fi tip jar

in case anybody's ever interested in helping out with stamps.

But, again, you don't need to.

And then this is what I was also extremely excited for.

The Sharpie Art Pen 12-pen thing with the case.

It has a case in it.

I saw these on Boho Berry's channel.

I've wanted them ever since but, as I stopped bullet journaling, I just...

I kept them on my list and stuff for one day but...

I'm betting these are to go with the colouring book

which I could use them for that too.

That's fantastic. I'm so excited.

So, that is everything.

Thank you so much to Ai-Media, Crystal, Nayeon, Klarif,

to Shari, to everyone who sent a letter.

To the viewers, thank you so much for all of your support

and the fact that you want to do this.

If you want to follow me on my social media, I have my usernames down here.

If you want to send a letter or anything,

I have my PO box address right up here.

Patreon and last video over there.

Ko-fi tip jar down there.

I upload every Monday and Thursday and I will see you later. Bye.

Tourette Syndrome: What Makes People Tic? - Duration: 5:40.

[INTRO ♪]

When I say Tourette's, you might picture someone

swearing, like, explosively.

Like, fountains of colorful four letter words,

in response to…like, nothing.

This is called coprolalia, which comes from the Greek words

that mean "poop" and "talk," which I guess is fitting.

And it's one of the most obvious symptoms of Tourette's,

but it is not the most common one.

This disorder is a lot more complex than people might think,

and scientists are still trying to understand

what's going on in the brain to cause it.

The DSM-V classifies Tourette syndrome, also known as Tourette's disorder,

as a neurodevelopmental motor disorder.

It was named after the French neurologist who first described it in a patient.

To be diagnosed with Tourette's,

people need to experience two or more motor or verbal tics—

a sudden, quick movement or vocalization.

Tourette's is described as having these tics multiple times daily,

consistently or intermittently for at least a year.

And there are other diagnoses for fewer tics or different patterns over time.

More often than not, tics are described as being

extremely uncomfortable or impossible to resist.

Think of being told to, like, hold in a sneeze, but instead of sneezing,

you're saying something pretty mean about your friend's cat.

These verbal tics aren't always swears though.

They could be repetitions of words that other people say,

or sounds from nearby, known as echolalia.

And similar to verbal tics, motor tics can be vulgar

or echo the movements of others.

They can also be just a movement with no reason behind it,

like someone smacking their own forehead

or having an uncomfortable facial twitch.

In some people diagnosed with Tourette's,

these verbal and motor tics can be quite dramatic—

like hitting or yelling at inappropriate moments.

But many people's tics are so small that they

might not even realize they have Tourette's.

They can fly under the radar for diagnosis their whole lives.

Some estimates say that around 1 in 100

to 1 in 1000 people worldwide may suffer from Tourette's.

A study of 3500 patients in 22 countries suggested that

men are 4.3 times more likely than women to be given the diagnosis.

The average age of onset is thought to be around 6 years old,

and research from the Yale Child Study Center

that followed 36 young patients throughout their childhood

placed the peak of tic severity at around age 10.

By the age of 18, nearly half of the patients involved

in that study were basically tic free.

But even though it's more common for children

to be diagnosed with Tourette's and grow out of it, many adults suffer from it,

and can experience their first symptoms later in life.

It's also worth mentioning that people diagnosed with Tourette's

more often than not have comorbidities.

In that same study of 3500 people, only about 12% didn't.

Comorbid disorders are those that commonly occur alongside it,

like Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

or Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder.

Now, Tourette's is a pretty intrusive illness to have

when it comes to everyday life.

A study from Canada conducted in the 1980s

found that 40% of respondents had problems with dating,

making friends, and keeping either kind of relationship.

So, besides trying to spread awareness of symptoms,

psychologists have been trying to figure out what makes people tic.

Biologically, we know that Tourette's has a strong genetic component,

meaning parents have a chance of passing it on to their children.

But we're not exactly sure what genes are involved.

But research has also shown that around a third of patients

didn't inherit the disorder.

And several cases have shown Tourette's surfacing after head trauma.

Right now, scientists aren't too sure exactly what happens

in the brain to cause Tourette's.

Many resources point toward dysfunction in the basal ganglia,

which is a brain region responsible for voluntary movements,

and areas in the frontal lobe that are responsible for impulse control.

But there are a lot of structural and functional differences

across the whole brain in patients with Tourette's.

So it's hard to pinpoint what networks are really to blame.

To study what happens in the brain when tics occur,

some researchers have used fMRI machines

to analyze participants with the disorder.

In one 2014 paper, for instance, scientists observed a wide range

of active brain areas in the seconds leading up to a motor or verbal tic.

Around two seconds before it happened,

several areas in the cortex activated,

which are toward the outer part of the brain.

Then, at T-minus one second to the tic,

a bunch of regions deeper in the brain activated.

Like the putamen, the amygdala, and the cerebellum…

just to name a few of many.

These various regions are involved in all kinds of things,

from receiving stimuli, to processing information,

to sending movement signals.

So the researchers analyzed the timings of these activations,

and compared them to other ideas about brain networks.

And they concluded that Tourette's patients may have

an abnormality in the resting state network—

a system made of many brain areas working together

at a particular rhythm while your brain is just doing its normal thing.

They suggested that something abnormal in this network

might nudge the supplementary motor area,

which is a key part of motor control in the cortex, into generating tics.

This nudge could potentially spread to linked motor areas,

resulting in a really strong urge to move or vocalize.

But this is far from the only hypothesis,

and it doesn't have a way to explain what might cause

someone's resting state network to become a bit wobbly.

Different studies have noted changes in a lot of different brain areas.

So it may be some time before we have

a definitive answer as to what causes Tourette's in the brain.

But we do have a lot of information coming in,

and we're narrowing it down a little bit at a time.

And, who knows, maybe in a couple years

we'll be able to make another video with some new updates.

How Fast Can Humans Go? - Duration: 4:32.

Hello and welcome back to Life's Biggest Questions, I'm Ron McKenzie-Lefurgey.

LBQ is on Patreon now, linked down below, stay tuned to the end to hear more about how

you can help out!

Since the beginning of the human race, speed has been a rather important factor.

It helped us get around, travel to other areas, and most importantly, it helped us to survive.

But as the years go on, we continue to break past speed records, both in athletics and

with the use of technology.

Today we'll delve into the limits of human speed, and ask the question: How Fast can

Humans go?

Let's start with the simple stuff: how fast can humans go on their own?

Well, when it comes to running, one name likely comes into your mind: Usain Bolt.

Usain Bolt has become a household name with his effortless victories on the track, running

at speeds of up to 28 miles per hour.

While technically Justin Gatlin has beaten his time of 9.58 seconds for the 100m dash,

he did so with the help of giant fans that gave him a 20 metre per second tailwind.

He's also been twice banned for the use of drugs.

So in the name of saying no to drugs and giant fans, let's give the win to Usain Bolt.

In the water, humanity has another champion: Michael Phelps.

Phelps holds the world record in both the 100 and 200 metre butterfly, the 400m individual

medley, and several 4 man relays.

He is undeniably a powerhouse in the pool, even representing humanity in a race against

a shark.

However, Phelps' 6 miles per hour in the water are nothing compared to the many fish

in the sea, not to mention human technology.

Which brings us to our next point.

Humans are clearly not the most physically capable of animals.

We're slower than most animals our size (and many smaller), both on land and at sea.

But we have one advantage: Our brains.

Our cognitive ability has allowed humanity to reach speeds unheard of anywhere else in

the animal kingdom.

The invention of the automobile brought the world closer together.

The plane allowed us still more freedom.

And now, in a world of fighter jets and rocket ships, the numbers have started to get pretty

intimidating.

Currently, the fastest speed clocked in an automobile is 435.31 km/h, clocked by the

Hennessey Venom GT.

The fastest manned jet is the X-15, that reached mach 6.70, roughly 7200 km/h.

And if that sounds impressive, Apollo 10 will knock your socks off.

During the return from the moon, Apollo 10 set the record for fastest manned vehicle,

at 39,897 km/h. Yowza.

But now we come to one of the important implications of this question: Light speed travel.

That's right, it's time to get physical.

For decades, science fiction has delved into the possibilities of near-light speed, light

speed, or even faster than light speed travel.

If we want to explore the galaxy and beyond, we need to find a way to travel vast distances

extremely quickly.

Many find themselves asking if humans can travel close to the speed of light.

As of now, this seems to be physically impossible.

The speed of light seems to be the universal speed limit, allowing nothing to exceed it.

It's a bit complicated, as is common in physics, but it boils down to this: Particles

with mass need energy to cause them to accelerate.

However, the faster an object moves, the more mass it gains.

So, as an object approaches the speed of light, it needs more and more energy to speed up,

to the point where an object would require an infinite amount of energy to move at the

speed of light.

And considering that amount of energy doesn't exist in the universe, it seems rather unlikely

that we could harness it here on Earth.

But that doesn't mean humanity will forever be stuck in this solar system.

There have been many other theories put forth that could allow us to effectively travel

faster than the speed of light, such as theories surrounding the bending of space or creation

of wormholes.

This, however, is a story for another video.

And now we return to our question: How Fast can Humans Go?

Well, slowly but surely humanity is learning new ways to optimize our bodies to run and

swim faster than ever before, but that's just the beginning.

As we continue to improve our technology, humanity continues to prove that our brains

are our most powerful organ.

As of now, the highest speed we've reached is 39,897 km/h, but each technological milestone

brings us one step closer to the ever-elusive light speed travel.

However, it seems that our technology is somewhat limited by the speed of light, that acts like

the surly state trooper of the universe.

But who knows?

Maybe we'll find a way around it.

Only time will tell.
