Waching daily Feb 13 2018

Welcome to Ranger Reviews, a webseries where we look at episodes of the tv show, Power

Rangers and then discuss it!

Today, we're exploring the ninety third episode of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers as

well as the thirty third episode of Season 2, titled "Lights, Camera, Action".

We begin in class where Aisha is giving some boring ass presentation about how television

came to be on a television that's like 30 years old even in 1994.

Ms. Applebee says that it was such a good presentation, and Bulk says "Captain Kangaroo?"

That is almost dated.

According to Ms. Applebee, the Power Rangers are going to be on TV tonight, and they're

going to discuss it the next day in class.

Adam is nervous about being in front of cameras, and Billy, Aisha, and Rocky tell him he's

going to be morphed, and it's fine.

Skull invites Bulk over to watch the show, and Bulk says "no, we're going there,

and we're going to unmask them on national tv", making them rich and famous… somehow.

Zedd sees what's going on, and he wants the Power Rangers kidnapped and replaced with

evil twins to give out his message on television.

We see the teens walking through the park, talking about how they're going to be on

the Harvey Garvey Show.

Jesus Christ.

Goldar and putties show up in front of them, and the six morph, fighting off their assailants

with relative ease.

Then Rocky goes after Goldar, hits him literally once, and he just disappears.

The Rangers talk about how Zordon didn't warn them at all about this, like Zordon would

know what the hell is going on on the moon.

Zedd says "screw this, we'll just do a monster".

At the Harvey Garvey Show, Harvey Garvey comes out, and we see b-roll footage of the Power

Rangers, involving a lot of footage we haven't even seen yet.

Then, of course the Rangers flip out as giant sparks go off and the audience claps in this

tiny studio.

They're about to hotbox this place.

The Rangers all sit down on couches, and for some reason, Tommy get a chair all to himself.

They talk about how staying in school is super cool.

Bulk and Skull are backstage, and Bulk asks for powder, and Skull hits him.

Yup.

Anyways, the Rangers say they're Power Rangers because they've developed their minds.

And Kim gives the example of Pudgy Pig.

You know.

That monster that literally only two of you dealt with.

Oh look, it's time for a flashback.

Anyways, Bulk tells Skull to release rope 3 so he can rip off the Power Ranger heads,

but it looks like 3 is in the 4th spot while 1 is in the 3rd spot.

Don't worry, we're back to this flashback.

Skull releases the wrong rope, almost killing Bulk.

Now, it's time for a kick demonstration, and yeah, Harvey Garvey ends up on the ground.

Bulk pulls a rope instead now, getting a bag of… feathers stuck on his head?

Zedd decides that since they're near a camera, he's going to make…

Showbiz Monster.

Wow.

That was lazy.

The alarms go off in the Command Center, and Alpha needs to alert the Rangers.

Then, Harvey asks them what happened to the Green Ranger which is hilarious.

Then, Alpha contacts them, and they leave right away as Bulk crashes through the set's

fake window as they accidentally tackle Harvey Garvey.

At the Command Center, the teens see the monster on the viewing globe, before Tommy says "lights,

camera, we're morphin into action" in the stupidest piece of dialogue this show

has ever seen.

Showbiz Monster sicks putties on them because he's clearly off screen in Japan somewhere.

Zedd sends down Goldar to handle the White Ranger, who is apparently just watching the

others fight.

They fight a little bit before the Rangers defeat the putties.

Zedd makes his monster grow giant, so they call out their Thunderzords, forming the Thunder

Megazord, and suddenly, it's super sunset.

They pretty much instantly kill the monster, letting us know that this Megazord doesn't

do a single cool thing.

Now, Goldar retreats for no apparent reason.

Zedd is angry.

Do you feel how repetitive this is?

Anyways, the next day, Ms. Applebee is talking to the students about the Power Rangers being

on TV, and some mullet wearing extra says that school is cool because the Power Rangers

said so.

Then, Rocky says that the Power Rangers really reached out and touched him like he liked

when they touched him.

Ms. Applebee also has a fax from Jason, Zack, and Trini, which is surprising, and it says

that basically, they saw what the Power Rangers did on TV, and they thought it was cool.

Also, here's their headshots.

They will literally do any work you have.

Bulk and Skull come in, acting all famous because they assaulted a famous person before

they hit on an extra that tells them to shove it, and then Ms. Applebee said that they have

a week of detention due to being 10 minutes late to class.

That's… kind of hefty.

The end.

This episode is painful.

I don't know what is going on with Season 2, but it feels like they're just spinning

the wheels, struggling to find anything to put on the screen to keep going.

Before the three original Rangers left, it was getting better acting wise and even story

wise, but not anymore.

Now, it's just getting more and more vanilla with each episode, which is pretty upsetting.

Luckily, I know we have some decent things coming eventually, so let's hope some random

episodes are cool enough to keep my attention.

Until then, may the power protect you!

1 Simple Skill to Beat a Defender (Soccer Tips) - Duration: 2:59.

Hi my name is Jason from best soccer tricks dot com and today I'll show you guys

one simple skill to beat your defender. So this drill is very simple, I'll be

using my SKLZ rebounder and added extra weights on the side so that it

doesn't move. So I'll be passing the ball on this side and then, I'll take a touch though the cones

and with my opposite leg, I'll

bring it back in a "V" motion and then I'll pass it back and do it again between

So this is great when you're on the wing or on the line and your defender is coming

at speed. When he's coming, you just take it back push it front and you'll be able

to beat them all the time. So the motion is simple, it's just like that in a "V".

[Soccer player doing an exercise to beat a defender]

I hope you like the drill and once again this is very good an effective drill to

mimic game situations when you want to get away from a defender. One tip is to

just start slow start getting familiar with the movement, once again it's a

simple "V" and what's good to add is just maybe a little fake like if you're

shooting and then you bring it back.

This is going to be useful in a game when you're on the line where a

defender is coming quick unexpected turn and you'll beat him every time.

Hope you guys like the video and don't forget to subscribe.

The Battle is About To Begin | The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003) CLIP - Duration: 4:55.

Old Greybeard.

I have a token I was bidden to show thee.

Frodo.

Frodo.

- Silence. - No!

Silence!

The Halfling was dear to thee, I see.

Know that he suffered greatly at the hands of his host.

Who would've thought one so small could endure so much pain?

And he did, Gandalf.

He did.

And who is this?

Isildur's heir?

It takes more to make a king than a broken Elvish blade.

I guess that concludes negotiations.

I do not believe it.

I will not.

Pull back.

Pull back!

It's gone, Mr. Frodo.

The light's passed on, away towards the north.

Something's drawn its gaze.

Hold your ground! Hold your ground.

Sons of Gondor, of Rohan, my brothers!

I see in your eyes...

the same fear that would take the heart of me.

A day may come when the courage of Men fails...

when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship.

But it is not this day.

An hour of wolves and shattered shields...

when the age of Men comes crashing down.

But it is not this day.

This day we fight!

By all that you hold dear on this good earth...

I bid you stand, Men of the West!

Never thought I'd die fighting side by side with an Elf.

What about side by side with a friend?

Aye.

I could do that.

Wooden Business Card (English Subtitles) - Duration: 3:27.

Business cards are a useful way to promote your products or services.

If you do it right, you may increase the chances of remembering you,

but also help you differentiate yourself from your competitors.

So I will show you how to create special wooden cards.

First of all I will cut plywood in dimensions that I want my cards to be.

Then I will sand them.

Then I will cut out the design of the cards I have printed on laser printers in mirror form.

Then I will spread the "transfer glue" onto the pieces of wood and place the card design on them.

After about 24 hours I will moisten the wood with water and rub the paper lightly to reveal my printed design.

Finally I will apply varnish to protect the card.

I hope you like the wooden cards.

I think that is a very easy construction and give a very special result.

Don't forget to press the "like" button, make a subscribe and leave your comments.

See you next week with a new video.

I wish you a pleasant week, take good care of yourself and let your imagination run wild!

Bye!!

Celtic Zenit, Nice Locomotive, Marcel Braga, Forecast Betting From Your Phone - Duration: 1:16.

HOW TO CHARG: FROM THE PHONE OR TO GO TO THE OFFICE?

Soon the Champions League, WE SUPPLY READY

Hello everyone, this is the betting from your phone and forecast for

3 matches of the League of Europe.

Nice - Locomotive and in this the match I put on,

that Nice will not lose + total match will be less

2.5.

Locomotive

wins on departure already in 5 games in a row.

I think Nice is the one, the team, which is able to interrupt

this brilliant

a series of victories.

Yuri Palych grinded kalach and in the match on the road, yes even

after fees will not fly forward, rushing headlong.

Loco

quite satisfied and a draw with a focus on home

match.

Coefficient 2

Celtic - Zenith.

And in this match I put to win Zenith with a handicap

0.

The Celtic again powerful series of victories and

draws at home stadium.

But, as a rule, all these series and records Celtic

interrupted in European competition.

Besides,

that the Scots are injured many key performers.

This is a great chance for Zenit in order to at least

not to lose.

Coefficient 1.85

Marcel - Braga.

These are commands with a powerful line attacks, many are slaughtered

in the last matches.

Therefore, the goal in the first

time at the Velodrome Stadium looks quite logical.

Coefficient 1.7

AGAINST THESE BETS, POKERS, LOANS.

AGAIN THE WOMEN'S PASTES.

YES GO YOU.

ONE OTHER EVER NEVER GETS AND AZERT IN THE SOUL

Am I Gay? | Christian Girl Advice - Duration: 17:18.

Hey girls, Tiffany Dawn here, and today I want to do a video on the question, "Am I

gay?" I've actually had several people write in this question recently and it's

something that I actually asked too when I was in my 20. I think it's a much more

common question than we realize, because no one really talks about it. So if we're

asking it, I think it can feel like scary and feel like we're the only person

who's been there, but I I think it's actually extremely common of a question

to ask. So I'm just gonna share my own experience with it, not because your

experience will be the same as mine, but just to help you know like you're not

alone, you're not the only person asking this question, and kind of like talk

through a little bit of it. We're not gonna talk about the morality of the

question in this video. I think that's a really big topic right now and a really

important discussion to have as a Christian, but instead of-- I'm not gonna

talk about it, but I do have some resources for you guys. So if that's a

question that you've been wondering about, and I've had some of you ask about

that too, and the morality of, is it okay to love Jesus and be a Christian and be

in a gay relationship, or is that, are those two different things? That's a big

question I hear. um If that's something you're wondering, I would point you to

these four resources. And these are four resources that are on both sides, like

have different answers to that question, they're on both sides of the debate

that's happening in the church right now. But what I-- what's really cool about

these four resources, is they are all by people who are coming from a place of, I

want to love Jesus and honor Him with all my heart and I want to honor what

the Bible says, I just have different ways of understanding what that is. And

so I think that these are incredibly helpful resources and I would encourage

you to really check them out, especially the resources that are contrary to how

you tend to think. So here's the thing. I was raised-- my parents really instilled

in us the value of hearing the other side of the perspective. It's not

something I've always been good at, but it's something that I want to constantly

get better at. And I remember like my dad would come home from work at night and

he'd bring a hot topic to the table. We would all discuss it and we'd take

different sides and one day I remember him bringing to the table the topic of

abortion and I was like 11 years old, and I was like all, "I got this one,"

and I start going off all about pro-life and stuff,

and then my dad kind of jumps in and he starts totally playing devil's advocate,

asking all these questions that just throw me off guard. And I remember being

so confused and being like, "Dad, what do you believe? I thought you were pro-life!"

And he just-- I don't remember his words, but the message I got was: "It doesn't

matter what I believe, Tiff, what matters is that you can think for yourself and

you don't just take for granted what you've always heard growing up, whether

in school or in church or in society or in your family, but that you know how to

think through an issue, looking at both sides and thinking it through for

yourself." And so I think part of being able to really know what we believe on

any certain topic means we have to look at the other side; we have to listen to

people who think differently than us. It's so important. Otherwise what we

believe is very one-dimensional and black-and-white and doesn't have a lot of

compassion. But when we actually listen to the other side, sometimes what we

believe changes, sometimes it doesn't, but it's more nuanced, it's more

two-dimensional, and we have a whole lot more compassion in the process. And so

these are four topics, two on each side of the argument. They all I think do a

quality job of expressing where they're coming from in their perspective. So the

first one is actually a video series by That Christian Vlogger. You might

remember him and his wife coming on here for a video series that we did

about marriage a few months ago. So That Christian Vlogger

um is someone who does believe that it's not biblical to be in a gay relationship,

but he had a friend come on who is a Christian and is in a gay relationship

and does think that that's okay and lines up with Scripture. And so That

Christian Vlogger had him on his channel and interviewed him, had him share his

story, asked him all these questions, and I think that the conversation from two

people who think very differently on this topic

but were able to realize like, "We have common ground here;

we both love God want to honor Him and we can have this conversation in a

loving way"-- like it blew my mind. I thought it was one of the most amazing

resources for the church today to have that conversation out there. And they

both did such a good job expressing themselves. It was really focused on his

friend though, his friend's story, um hearing what that was like for him,

how he came to those decisions that he did, how he came to what he believes

today, and so that's very much an explanation of I guess someone who

thinks it is okay to be in a gay relationship and be a Christian and

honor the Bible. Do then the second one is also an interview with somebody from

kind of the opposite perspective. Do this one is from Java with Juli, which is

this ministry, this marriage ministry out in Denver, and she interviews

different people on her show. So she interviewed a lady who also was

attracted to women and was in gay relationships I believe, but then when

she became a Christian decided to no longer be, and what that decision was

like for her and why she believes that, how she came to that belief. Then the

third one is from a guy who was a missionary, very conservative thinker, and

then he ended up really looking at this issue and coming to a totally different

belief about it, thinking that the way he'd always interpreted what the Bible

said might not actually be accurate. So he has a whole series of blog posts that

kind of just lay out for you exactly the study process he went through on each of

the verses in the Bible that talks about homosexuality and how he now believes

that it is biblical and okay to be in a gay relationship. And then the final one

is from a pastor who's on the other side of the spectrum. He actually studied with

Billy Graham and now he owns-- doesn't own lol-- now he is the pastor of a large

local church where we live, and a lot of people in his congregation started

asking this question, like what do you think about gay marriage? And so he did

he did a message about it and I think he does a great job explaining his

perspective of saying, "I think it's not biblical to be in a gay

relationship and, and live the way the Bible says to live." So I think those are

four tremendous resources for you and I know that they might make us

uncomfortable because no matter which side of the debate we're on, two of them

are gonna be different than what we think. But I think it's so important to

kind of become comfortable with the discomfort. Actually my little sister

called me the other day. We were talking about this issue and she's like, "I feel

like God is challenging me to just be okay with being uncomfortable sometimes

and having those uncomfortable conversations and hearing another side

of the story." And I think that's so profound and like wise

beyond her years. And I just think it's it's so important to take the time

to hear that other perspective and then figure out what do you believe. And I

think the way to do that as a Christian in my opinion, is to look at: What does

the Bible say? What does the Bible mean by what it says? And then we're hearing--

hear another side of the story. And then find someone who's older and wiser that

you trust and talk with them about it, bounce your opinions and ideas off of

them and hear what they have to say. And I think those are the four things

you can do that kind of help you figure out, what do I believe on this topic? So

I'm not going to share what I believe today; we're not going to talk about that,

but if you want to think more about that, check out the resources linked below. So

now let's move into what this video is actually about, which is that question,

"Am I gay?" So I think that this question is actually asked by a lot more people

than we realize, and I think it's easy to think that only people who are attracted

to someone of the same sex would ask this question, but I actually don't think

that's true. So I have asked this question and a lot of other people I

know who have asked this question, actually decided, "No you know what, I am

attracted to someone of the opposite sex." So I think that this question is way

more universal than we sometimes or realize. So I just want to share my own

experience, just to kind of, I don't know, normalize it maybe, or just let you

know like if you're asking this, you're not alone. So I grew up always

daydreaming about boys. Like I was definitely a very boy crazy girl, but

when I got to my 20s um I wasn't in a relationship for a long time. Like I'd go

on dates with different guys but I was always like, "Man I don't really like this

guy." So I spent a lot of my 20s very single.

And I guess maybe people aren't used to seeing that in our culture; maybe

they're not used to someone being like, "I don't really-- I'm waiting for something

and I don't know exactly what it is, but when I know it-- when I see it, I think

I'll know it. And I'm just gonna be single till then." And I don't think

that's normal in our culture. And so friends of mine-- both Christian and

non-Christian-- started asking me, "Tiff, do you think maybe you're actually gay? Do

you think you're actually attracted to girls? Maybe, maybe you're kind of doing

this all wrong; maybe you should try dating a girl." And several

people mentioned this to me, several close friends, and so that really started-- the

first time you know, you're like, "Oh that's weird that you asked me that, but

okay," but after a few times you're like, "Is there something here? Like why are all

these people asking me this?" And I started kind of like really

questioning in my head like, "Do they see something that I don't see in myself?" And

then on top of that, I didn't have a lot of really close guy friends. I did have

some over the years, but for the most part that people I really deeply

connected with were other girls, they were my girlfriends, and I just had this

deep connection; I just loved being with them. And so then I started thinking like,

"Oh my goodness, like are the people I really connect with gonna be girls? Like

does that mean that I am gay?" And I think for that in specific, that actually came

up in my counseling recently by accident almost. So I was talking with my

counselor about how I have such a hard time being myself around guys who are in

relationships because I'm so afraid and so worried that anything I do or say

could be misconstrued as flirting. And I don't ever want their wives to go

through the pain that I have gone through when ex-boyfriends have flirted

with other girls and the girls have flirted back, and all this. So I told my

counselor like, "I get so anxious, I like can I cannot be myself around guys if

they're in a relationship, even though they know I'm married and I know that

they're in a relationship. But if they're single, I'm like totally fine,

totally natural." And my counselor was like, "It sounds like you kind of

romanticize or sexualize intimacy. So you don't know how to just have intimacy

as a friendship and say like, 'This closeness to this person is a gift as a

friendship.' It doesn't have to be more than that. It doesn't have to be

construed as sexual or romantic; it can just be a friendship." And as we were

talking about that, I was like, "That's so interesting because when I was

in my 20s, I wondered if I was gay because most of my close girlfriends--

most of the people I really connected with were girls." And my counselor was like,

"Yeah that's a great example of another way that you kind of see that closeness

and intimacy as automatically meaning, this must be a romantic connection." And I

think that's just so profound for our world today.

Because I think with social media, we're so used to like

connections at arms-length almost, and we're not used to that real intimacy of

friendship. And I think that's true for girls and for guys, like um, you know,

my sister-in-law works with some teens at her church. And she was saying

that there's this guy and this girl and they've started hanging out and the more

they see of each other, the more they're like, "Wow you're really cool! Like I want

to get to know you more." And my sister-in-law was like, "Now they're kind of like

dating, but I wish they just knew that they could just be friends; that that

kind of connection doesn't mean, 'Oh we should date,' it means like, 'Oh you can be

friends and have that connection.' You don't always have to date a person that

you have that connection with." So I think that that's like really-- that was really

profound for me to realize that that's what I was doing. So those two things

really contributed to that for me. I mean if someone suggested to you, even if

it's a guy, you know my friends asking me like, "Do you think maybe you're gay?" Even

if that happened to me with guys - like they'd be like, "Oh maybe you like him,

maybe you like him," and all of a sudden I'd be like, "Maybe I do!" I think like when

things get put in our heads like that, it's easy to question if what we're

hearing is true and also it's easy to kind of not recognize that you can have

friendships that are deep and intimate in a non-sexual way and it doesn't-- just

because you really have a connection with someone doesn't necessarily mean

that you have to date that guy or girl. So that was my experience. And my

experience is gonna be different from everybody else's. Everyone's experience

with this question is unique to themselves. Some some girls will realize,

"You know I really am attracted to other girls." Some girls will realize, "You know

I'm really not attracted to other girls." It's gonna look different for each

person. But I know like my husband actually asked this question - he told

me that in high school he wondered if he was gay because no girls paid any

attention to him. He was kind of like not very cool in high school,

and so now he's amazing, but girls didn't really pay attention to him.

And the only people that did pay any attention to him were guys who were gay.

And he was like, "I really enjoyed having someone pay attention to me, so I started

wondering like, am i gay, because of that." So I think that this question,

am i gay, is way more universal than we realize. And if you're asking it, you are

not the only person asking that question. There are so many other people also

asking it. And so as you ask it, I think there's two things that are important to

keep in mind. The first is, find a safe person who you can talk with about the

question. And what I mean by a safe person is this. I never shared that

question with anyone because I was too scared of what they would say. um And if

I had shared it and the person had immediately said, "Well you know it's

wrong to be gay and a Christian, right?" I would have just shut down and never

talked to anyone else about it. On the same token, if someone had said, "Oh

yes you're definitely gay," I would have also shut down and never talked to

anyone else about the topic. What I would have needed is someone who just kind of

was a listening ear; had the maturity to just kind of like be quiet with me and

sit with me and help me explore it and help me ask the right questions to

figure out what I believe about this, what I feel about this, what's happening

inside me, and just kind of guide me gently along that process so that I

could come to my own conclusions. But um they would help me know what questions

to ask to get there, if that makes sense. So I think finding a safe person like

that, who's a little older a little wiser, can be a great way to kind of process

that question if it's something that is really kind of sticking with you and

you're really wondering about. um The second thing is, I would just say, don't

let anybody tell you that God doesn't love you because you're asking that

question. To put it bluntly, that is a lie from the pit of hell. Jesus loves you, and

whether or not you're asking this question. And there is no question that's

too taboo to bring to God. You can bring that question to Him and you can talk to

Him about it and ask Him about it, ask Him to just guide you through it and be

with you through it, and He's going to. He delights in His children asking Him to

just guide them through these things. And so don't let anyone tell you that you

can't take it to God, that you can't talk about it, that it's taboo or that God

doesn't love you because you're asking this, because that is not true. I really,

with all my heart, believe that God wants us to bring these questions to Him.

I think sometimes they scare us and so we think that they must scare God, but

God is way bigger than that. He's not scared by any question we could ever

throw at Him. So bring this to God, share it with Him, and share it with some safe

people-- if this is something that's really like bothering you and on your

mind and you're just really confused by it. For some people you'll realize, "Oh,

yeah I-- I asked that question, but it's not really a big deal." But if you're-- if

you're asking that question and it is a big deal, share it with God, share it with

people you trust, and know that you are loved by your Father God; that He sees

you, He knows you, and He loves you, and asking this question does not separate

you from that love. So girls I hope that this can really encourage you in some

way. um Please feel free to comment your own thoughts below, but please do so in

love. I know we often quote that verse from Scripture where it says, "Speak the

truth in love." And I think as Christians we can be really good at speaking the

truth, or what we think is the truth on a topic, but we're not always great at

the "in love" part. So if you want to know how to write a comment, read

1 Corinthians 13 before you post it, and then go back and look at your comment

and say, "Does this fit that definition of love? Is this patient, is this kind,

is this believing the best about other people even if they think differently

than me? Is this loving?" Like look at 1 Corinthians 13 and then ask

yourself, "Is this a comment that fits with that verse?" before you post it.

Because this is a very personal, very vulnerable and scary topic for people

who are really wrestling with this question, and so please write your

comments-- you can, you can come from any perspective; that's the beautiful thing

about YouTube is you can have people from all perspectives, but please write

your comments in love, lining up with 1 Corinthians 13. So I love you girls,

and I'll see you next week. Bye.

Consumer Alert Air Fresheners - Duration: 19:29.

Consumer Alert Air Fresheners

by Edward Morgan

An astounding 19 pages of chemicals go into making one commonly used brand of air freshener,

representing just how poorly regulated and toxic this increasingly popular class of consumer

products is.

Youve probably seen pictures of people navigating urban cityscapes, their noses and

mouths covered by medical masks to safeguard against toxic air quality. You might be surprised

to learn that its actually indoor air quality, permeated by chemical air fresheners,

that is a top concern for public health officials.

Consider for a moment, the toxic chemicals an average urban dweller is exposed to each

day upon leaving the home. Limiting scope to just airborne toxicants, its still easy

to produce a long list of offenders: exhaust fumes from vehicles, chemicals used in manufacturing,

emissions of dry cleaners, common cleaning products including the greenwashed brand Simple

Green, second-hand smoke from passersby and thats not counting the sneezes

and coughs of people on the subway. This is just a sampling of the many vectors of toxicity

affecting air quality; most of which emanate from sources that are largely beyond our control.

Now think of an average home. All surfaces are cleaned once per week with a name-brand

spray cleaner. Carpets are sprinkled with freshening powder and vacuumed (the vacuum

cleaner bag gets changed every few months). Fabric-covered sofas and chairs are spritzed

with Fabreze to mask pet odors. Finally, the scented plug-in in the bathroom keeps

it smelling guest-friendly at all times. To make sure the house stays fresh, the

windows are sealed tight to keep the polluted outside air from entering. Sounds really clean,

right?

It may shock you to learn that the EPA found levels of common air pollutants to be up to

five times higher inside homes than outside, even in highly industrial areas.[1] In homes

like the example illustrated above, indoor air can reach levels up to 100 times more

toxic than outside air.[2] And its the effort to create freshness that is largely

to blame.

The United States EPA recognizes indoor air quality as a top environmental risk to public

health. Problems such as asthma, chronic fatigue, breathing problems, allergy, and sinus infection,

among other serious concerns, are often directly attributable to breathing contaminated indoor

air. With some individuals, particularly the elderly who can spend nearly all of their

time indoors, its easy to see how poor air quality can quickly devastate ones

health. But breathe easy! A little bit of knowledge and focused action goes a long way

towards restoring your home to the safe sanctuary you intended it to be.

The Unseen Pollutant

The primary pollutants inside of our homes are VOCs: volatile, organic compounds, that

get released in gaseous or particulate form, from furniture, paints and varnishes, cleaning

products, flooring, air fresheners, and even clothing and personal care products. These

dangerous chemical emissions remain trapped in the air of a closed home, where they are

inhaled by inhabitants, causing untold damage to cells. Thanks to medical research, we know

the damage that can occur when people come into contact with the 182 known toxicants

on the EPAs list of Hazardous Air Pollutants. The ugly truth is, most of these chemicals

are not banned from use. Rather, they are allowed into our homes, offices, and public

transportation, under what the EPA deems safe, allowable limits. These limits, set on

known carcinogens and genotoxins, are largely based on hypothetical data, since testing

for actual harm to humans would be unethical to perform. Even if every product in your

home was under these arbitrarily-set limits for known toxins, what are the levels when

you combine ten or twenty such products in the same room? What happens if you close that

room for a long, summer weekend with no A/C running? Your home can quickly become a toxic

soup of VOCs that are literally hanging out in the air and on surfaces, waiting for your

return.

As with any toxic chemicals, the amount to which we are exposed is a critical factor

in health outcomes. With so many products coming together under the roof of the average

home, its a safe bet that multiple contamination sources are lurking. When these toxicants

converge, not only do the overall levels of each chemical increase, but volatile organic

compounds can bind with other VOCs, forming new and sometimes more dangerous compounds

that are so limitless in their potential formations, its virtually impossible to study them

and ascertain their risk. Even if your favorite spray cleaner has been tested for safety and

passed, it hasnt been tested for how it combines with your favorite scented lotion,

which you apply several times a day. Or how it mixes with the toilet cleaner, vinyl shower

curtain, soap scum remover, and Glade plugin in a tiny bathroom, where the door is usually

shut. The types of emissions coming from these and other household products are serious enough

to warrant concern on their own merits. The potential toxic combinations that can form

should seal the deal when it comes to evaluating if these products deserve a place in your

home.

The Problem with Synthetic Freshness

One of the biggest and most deceptive sources of VOCs are freshening products, meant

to instill a sense of confidence in clean surroundings. Freshening products of all types

have been identified as containing VOCs, specifically formaldehyde, benzene, toluene, styrene, and

phthalates. Sprays, powders, plug-ins, diffusers, sachets, potpourri, scented candles, and car

vent clips, have all been found to contain these chemicals, despite no mention on most

product ingredient lists. Lax regulation allows manufacturers to omit these chemicals from

labels in many cases, opting for the catch-all term fragrance that is less likely to

set-off consumer alarm bells. What fragrance means in these products, is a chemical cocktail

that can be comprised of literally hundreds of ingredients.

A recent post by Dr. Kelly Brogan titled, Is Your Uber Making You Sick, reveals

an astounding 19-page list of chemicals used in the making of Proctor & Gambles Febreeze

Car Vent Clips, with the first page reposted here below:

Page 1 (of 19) of potential fragrance chemicals in Febreze air fresheners.

A November 2015 investigative report by Womens Voices for the Earth called Unpacking the

Fragrance Industry, found a shocking lack of oversight for fragrance products due to

an inherent conflict of interests. According to the group, RIFM [Research Institute

for Fragrance Materials], the body responsible for determining the safety of fragrances,

is governed by a Board of Directors made up of the worlds largest fragrance sellers.

They have a vested financial interest in making sure that fragrances are deemed safe. Some

of the conflicts uncovered in the report include:

The vast majority of scientific studies on fragrance materials are generated by major

fragrance manufacturers or the fragrance trade associations own laboratories. Largely,

these studies have never been published or peer-reviewed, and are not publicly available.

The RIFM Expert Panel, the independent review board which helps oversee the Fragrance

Safety Program, operates in secret, without the benefit of public oversight.

There is no evidence that the RIFM panel has reviewed the safety of several of the most

controversial fragrance ingredients, such as hormone-disrupting phthalates and musks

or carcinogens, including styrene and pyridine, in the last 30-40 years.[3]

The International Fragrance Association (IFRA) has compiled a Transparency List of

more than 3,000 chemicals used in the industry. Many of these are what the EPA deems chemicals

of concern, with regards to public health. All of the VOCs commonly found in fragrances

are chemicals of concern that also appear on the EPAs list of Hazardous Air Pollutants.

Also known as air toxics, These are chemicals that are known or suspected to cause cancer,

reproductive or birth defects, or other adverse human and environmental effects.[4] Lets

examine the five worst chemicals of concern, and understand why a simple vanilla candle

can be a serious risk to your health.

Chemicals of Concern in Air Fresheners

In 2005, the European Consumers Organisation, or BEUC (Bureau Europan des Consommateurs),

commissioned a study to understand the real dangers presented by indoor air fresheners.

In this study, 74 popular consumer air fresheners were tested using a chromatographic method

for total VOCs, as well as emissions from allergens. The study identified VOCs

that are common to most types of air fresheners, including incense, scented candles, gels,

aerosols, and diffusers, even products labelled natural and organic. Their findings

were among the earliest alarm bells to ring, as these products proliferated across the

globe. Since then, numerous independent studies have confirmed their findings.[5] Of the hundreds

of VOCs that have been found in commercial air fresheners, the following represent some

of the most dangerous and prolific chemicals of concern.

Formaldehyde

Besides smoking and exposure to second-hand smoke, contaminated indoor air is the largest

source of formaldehyde exposure for most individuals. Classified as a human carcinogen, epidemiological

studies have linked formaldehyde inhalation to a variety of negative health outcomes,

including leukemia, vomiting, spasm, and death at high concentrations. Even short-term exposure

to relatively low levels (>0.1 ppm) may cause watery eyes; burning sensations in the eyes,

nose, and throat; coughing; wheezing; nausea; and skin irritation in some individuals.[6]

Formaldehyde has been observed in animal studies to achieve greater than 90% absorption by

the upper respiratory tract when inhaled. Long-term, repeated inhalation is linked to

the development of multiple forms of cancer.[7]

Benzene

Benzenes naturally sweet odor makes it desirable in fragrance products. Colorless,

it evaporates quickly into the air, or lands as an imperceptible film upon surfaces in

the home. Benzenes are easily inhaled, with animal studies showing that around 50% of

inhaled molecules are absorbed via the respiratory tract.[8] Benzenes primary impact is on

the blood, with long-term exposures (>one year) causing a decrease in red blood cell

count and damage to bone marrow.[9] But that is far from their only bad effects. Benzenes

are a known carcinogen, linked to leukemia and lymphomas in cases of long-term exposure.

Benzenes damage human DNA, and have been linked to genetic mutations (genotoxic). Other observed

health effects from inhalation exposures include reproductive and developmental defects.[10]

Toluene

Toluene is an aromatic hydrocarbon most frequently associated with paint thinners.[11] Harmful

if inhaled, the tragic choice to huff paint products has led to spontaneous renal

failure and even death, in some cases.[12] Toluene can appear on labels (IF it appears

on labels!) as Methyl benzene, Methyl benzol, Phenyl methane, or Toluol. Symptoms of accidental

contact can present as irritated eyes or nose, fatigue, muscle weakness, confusion, euphoria,

dizziness, headache, excessive tears, and dilated pupils.[13] Studies of exposure to

airborne toluene molecules have shown as much as 93% is absorbed via the respiratory tract.

Once toluene makes its way to the bloodstream, it is readily distributed throughout the body,

with primary effects noted to the brain, liver, and blood. Long-term exposure can lead to

permanent kidney, heart, and neurological damage.[14] Toluene has caused reduced sperm

counts in animal studies[15], and cases of spontaneous abortion have occurred after high-dose

exposures.[16] Due to a benzene-like sweet smell, toluene is a frequent contributor to

fragrance products.

Styrene

Styrene, a derivative of benzene, is another sweet-smelling, colorless liquid that evaporates

easily into the air. Both animals and humans readily absorb styrene when it is inhaled,

with as much as 70% being taken up by the bloodstream.[17] Short-term exposure to styrene

can induce nausea and gastrointestinal effects, impaired balance and vision, and allergic

reactions.[18] According to OSHA, chronic exposure primarily affects the central nervous

system, with symptoms such as headache, fatigue, weakness, and depression among the most common

side-effects.[19] Studies of furniture industry workers, commonly exposed to styrene contamination

from the many solvents used in their work, demonstrated acute neurological effects

such as brain abnormalities, delayed reactions, and impaired color vision. Long-term exposures

produced an increased risk of cytogenetic effects, such as lymphoma and leukemia.[20]

Phthalates

Phthalates are one of the most frequently omitted ingredients from fragrance labels,

due to sudden awareness among consumers about the dangers of this all-too-common product

additive. A plasticizer found in many consumer products, phthalates can be inhaled and absorbed

through the skin, and have effects that simulate hormones in the body. The Natural Resources

Defense Council (NRDC) published an alarming report, Hidden Hazards of Air Fresheners,

which tested 14 popular air fresheners sold in the United States. Researchers found that

12 of the 14 products contained phthalates, yet none of them listed this on the ingredients

list! Common side effects of phthalate exposure included hormonal abnormalities, birth defects,

and other reproductive problems.[21] While the EPA has concluded that reproductive risks

from phthalates are negligible,[22] researchers found exposure to phthalates can

lead to endocrine alterations in women who have been exposed. Health problems such as

increased risk for endometriosis, reproductive and other endocrine-related cancers and

well as impaired ovarian function and menstrual cycling have been demonstrated in other

studies.[23] Observed health effects in men include disturbed gonadal development, reduction

in semen quality, infertility, as well as an increased risk for testicular cancer.[24]

Perhaps the most troubling aspect of the BEUC report was the concentrations of these toxins

that were observed after normal use of these products. Total VOC concentrations were determined

and then compared to international exposure guidelines for the general public. For most

of the products tested, the emitted total VOC values exceeded the proposed maximum limits

set for indoor air in several countries, and the emissions contained the aforementioned

chemicals of concern, classified as carcinogenic, at rather high concentrations. The health

implications of the BEUC report were deemed strongly conclusive, with authors recommending

wider testing of these products, better definition of the exposure harms, and evaluation of the

interactions between the compounds.

An even broader study was conducted in 2016, the first study to examine the multiple avenues

by which people are exposed to fragranced products in the United States, and the effect

of these exposures on US populations. Using an online survey method, a nationally representative

population sample was queried to ascertain four key points:

prevalence and types of fragranced product exposures

associated health effects awareness of product emissions

preferences for fragrance-free policies and environments

Results showed an overwhelming preference for safe and unscented environments:

>50% of the population prefer that all public spaces are fragrance-free

>20% leave a business as quickly as possible if they smell air fresheners or some fragranced

product. More than two thirds of the population say

they fall for greenwashingthe false belief that green and organic

products are safebut over 60% would stop using a fragranced product if they knew it

emitted pollutants. Nearly 35% of the population reported health

problems, such as migraine headaches and respiratory difficulties, when exposed to fragranced products.

>15% have lost a job or some workdays due to exposure to fragranced products in the

workplace. Researchers concluded,

Results from this study provide strong evidence that fragranced products can trigger

adverse health effects in the general population. The study also indicates that reducing exposure

to fragranced products, such as through fragrance-free policies, can provide cost-effective and relatively

simple ways to reduce risks and improve air quality and health.

While we must wait for regulatory agencies to catch up to public awareness, there is

much we can do to ensure that the air in our home and workplace is as fresh (really fresh!)

as possible. Rely on natural home cleaning products, and use only natural beeswax or

soy candles that are scented using essential oils. Looking for another ancient air microbial

disinfectant? Read about the science of herbal smoke/smudging in our previous article: Killer

Germs Obliterated by Medicinal Smoke (Smudging), Study Reveals. And dont forget to regularly

vent your homes to allow VOCs a safe escape.

Medley Q2 Abi'18 LMG (More than you know) - Duration: 3:36.

I just need to get it off my chest

Yeah, more than you know Yeah, more than you know

You should know that, baby, you're the best

Yeah, more than you know Yeah, more than you know

I saw it coming, from miles away I better speak up if I got something to say

'Cause it ain't over, until she sings

You had your reasons, you had a few But you knew that I would go anywhere for you

'Cause it ain't over, until she sings

I just need to get it off my chest

Yeah, more than you know Yeah, more than you know

You should know that, baby, you're the best

Yeah, more than you know Yeah, more than you know

I just...

Your good intentions are sweet and pure

But they can never tame a fire like yours No it ain't over, until she sings

Right where you wanted, down on my knees You got me begging, pretty baby, set me free 'Cause it ain't over, until she sings

Come a little closer, let me taste your smile Until the morning lights

Ain't no going back the way you look tonight I see it in your eyes

I just need to get it off my chest

Yeah, more than you know Yeah, more than you know

You should know that, baby, you're the best

Yeah, more than you know

I just...

I just need to get it off my chest

Yeah, more than you know Yeah, more than you know

You should know that, baby, you're the best

Yeah, more than you know Yeah, more than you know

Danke an die beste Stufe der Welt (und ganz besonders an Anton und Lutz)
