VR Outdoors! Onward, Pavlov & Co. tested in World Scale![english subs] [Samsung Odyssey][WMR] - Duration: 27:55.
Whats up guys, welcome back to the advanced virtual reality!
As you perhaps know I got a new gaming laptop now
I want to show you "World Scale" now.
Ok, we got a backpack and inside this backpack we got a laptop.
On our head we have a mixed reality headset that has so called inside-out-tracking.
That means we can use the roomscale tracking without any sensors on the wall.
The difference is that we go outdoors and then its called World Scale, because we dont have any natural borders anymore.
We will test this now!
Here I want to say thank your to my colleague Kiwi who showed me a good place to test this.
So I packed my stuff and drove to this location together with my girlfriend.
If you dont know "Zitronenarzt" you should definitely take a look at his channel, I linked it under this video. He also produces this kind of World Scale videos.
We will use the Samsung Odyssey.
So lets take a look at the first game: Onward! Onward in World Scale VR! Have fun guys and lets go!
Ok guys we are now in Onward.
I hope you can see me here on the lawn!
As you can see I can walk around in this virtual garden.
Nearly, nearly..
Lets try to walk this way.
With the weapon in our hands of course.
Hmm...
Whats now?
That is strange...
Seems to get black, lets go this way.
Lets see where I am in reality.
Not good, to close to camera.
We cant go this way, lets try the other way again.
However the screen get black here and I dont know why.
Arent we supposed to go here?
Ok that doesnt work, lets try the other way again.
It seems that the game doesnt support this...
That is strange...
Here I can walk along as you can see...
but....
Here goes the screen black.. so...
Seems that Onward doesnt support walking outside the maximum space the game is designed for...
Lets try to walk with trackpad....
Lets go to the street there and check it out again...
Shooting is possible of course. Ok we are on the street now.
Lets walk along this street.
Lets check my real position.
Lets walk the street... ok... screen is black again...
The game doesnt seem to support this.
Here I can walk without problems.
That looks nice.
We can go futher, so I think the game locks a maximum area for gaming.
As you can see, the tracking works, I can walk around here...
However the game blocks walking outside this area. Its a pity, but it nice to know.
I could ask the developers if they can implement something that it isnt blocked anymore.
Ok.
Lets end this game now.
Ok guys that was Onward, you saw it...
The game locks it, we cant play Onward with World Scale.
Technically it would work, you saw I could walk around everywhere.
The Samsung Odyssey recognized everything even the tracking of the controllers.
However you cant play it outside of an area of 10x10 meters, the screen just gets black.
Thats a problem with the game, so the developers should take care of it perhaps.
I always thought there is only a minimum play area and not a maximum play area.
Ok guys, next game... We will paint something now!
We take a look at Google Tilt Brush World Scale VR.
Ok guys this is Google Tilt Brush.
Its a paint software where we can paint some small pictures.
However lets try...
..to walk outside of this range and paint a bigger picture.
Ok, that seems to work.
What will we paint now...
Lets paint a big house.
Wow guys, that works! It works!
Oh man, thats so cool!
That looks great!
Lets see if the tracking works..
Its not 100 percent smooth...
I hope you can see it in the video...
How should I paint the roof now, I'm too small!
I hope my laptop isnt broken now!
Haha, that is unbelievable...
Ok, here has to be a line.
Here another line down...
Ok and here
And here... oh... whats now?!
Ok the game just crashed guys!
I cant tell you why.
Didnt the game expect me to go that far away or was it the performance of my laptop? I dont know!
Or perhaps the recording software, I really dont know.
However World Scale worked in this game.
You saw I could walk much more around outside this 5x5 meters area.
The tracking worked as well.
If you got a high performance laptop with a GTX1080 then its another thing perhaps...
I think this game needs too much performance.
I cant tell you, but the borders we've seen in Onward are not present in this game.
Screen didnt get black.
We could walk out of the marked area that you can see in Tilt Brush.
I mean the room scale area.
That worked, however the game crashed und I cant really tell you why.
The next game will be Pavlov, a first person shooter
Lets see how this works with World Scale VR, have fun!
Welcome to Pavlov guys.
Will this work? It seems... Oh... no, it doesnt work either...
Strange guys...
Looks like its not supported in most games.
Let start an offline match.
Lets test Datacenter without bots.
I dont want to die the whole time.
We just want to check if it works.
Lets take my favourite rifle.
Lets check my surroundings... oh ok there we are.
Lets continue..
Looks like it works until now.
And here is the border again, the end of the room scale area.
Tracking works.
You can hear this sound...
The game just locks the outside area and so we cant use World Scale for the moment.
Now we are in this area.
Lets check my surroundings.
Can you see me over there? Up down up down.
lets go straight forward.
And thats it... thats it!
It would work....
but its locked.
Lets check how big the area is.
Ok lets check... We will walk some steps.
One, two, three, four, five, six, seven eight, nine, ten.
Ok thats it, so we got an area of 10x10 meters.
So the games that I checked can use more than this area.
Its a pitty that it doesnt work.
However its very cool to walk around here.
Tracking works fine. I can walk around this thing here.
Its really cool.
The problem is not the VR headset, but the games!
Area will be locked now I think..
Its not so bad, its fun.
However we cant play Pavlov and Onward in this way.
If you dont have a big play area at home, you could go to your garden.
Then you need to clear a 10x10 meters area and it will work.
That works fine.
Its pretty ok.
Of course we have to check our surroundings.
Here it ends again.
Doesnt work this way with Pavlov and Onward.
We will check other games as well.
Lets get back to the studio.
Ok guys, you've seen it, the same problem as Onward.
Technically it would work, tracking is perfect.
Controller working as well.
However the game locks the screen outside of a 10x10 meters area.
Then the game locks it, so its not a problem with World Scale but with the game.
It just locks the screen.
In Pavlov you can even hear a warning signal if you leave the area.
Thats a pitty.
Its only a matter of programming I think.
Developers could fix that.
It really depends on the game.
Next game will be Space Pirates Trainer, its a wave shooter.
We will try to walk around this platform, lets see if World Scale works here, have fun!
Welcome to Space Pirate Trainer guys!
Lets try this!
Ready to rock...
Lets try arcade.
Now the question is: How far can we walk!
Can we walk to the space ship?
Haha check this out, we can walk to the space ship!
Haha awesome! Oh man where am I?
Check this out! Awesome!
Seems that it works here!
I think there are no borders.
I can walk around the whole place here.
However I cant shoot here? Oh here it works.
Oh guns are locked here!
We cant shoot here, but lets walk around.
Check it out!
Can you still see me in the camera? I dont know.
Guns are locked but I can walk around.
So in this game not the screen is locked but the guns, when we leave the 10x10m area.
I hope you can still see me.
I dont know how far the camera angle is, perhaps I ran out of the camera area.
Lets try to walk around the space ship.
Oh its locked here!
Here is a virtual wall.
Awesome!
Here I am again.
Just awesome!
Lets check what happens when we walk down there.
Guns are locked as well here.
Game runs pretty smooth on the battery
There is much more freedom when you play the game like this!
What is that? I dont know it.
Oh man, I'm playing a wave shooter in room scale.
We are dead...
Lets enter this, Voodoo is on the highscore list with world scale.
Ok guys as you can see, even in this game you cant do everything in world scale. Lets get back into the studio and talk about it.
Space Pirates Trainer. Here it looks a little bit better, you saw it.
I could walk to the space ship, the game didnt lock the screen.
However in this game the guns are locked!
If we walk outside the 10x10 meters area, guns are locked!
I think no one of the developers did thing about the case, that s freak like me will try something like this!
However there are some guys like me trying this and its a pitty that its locked by the developers.
However I cant change that.
However I had a lot of fun just walking around.
Very cool.
Ok we've seen a lot now, but finally I want to show you a special, where my girlfriend uses world scale as well with Space Pirate Trainer.
She didnt care about the guns..
Instead she tried to walk around the whole time. Have fun with that guys!
You have to shoot those drones!
You may not walk that far, you cant shoot then!
You have to come back, I said you cant shoot there!
Can we jump down there?
I didnt try this.
Just walk over that thing,
World Scale premium. I think she is the first girl on this planet testing this!
Awesome!
Arent you dead already?
I dont know but I dont care.
You are going to run towards the real wall!
It looks so nice here!
There is a street!
There is a street? In Space Pirates Trainer? Did you change to another game?
What when I walk straight there?
Its so deep!
Where are you going?
I think she looks down the platform, I cant see it myself now.
I dont know what you're looking at!
That looks so awesome with this backpack, I didnt realise that before!
Can I look down there?
I dont know!
Oh guys, its getting dark here, I think the tracking wont work much longer!
It justs stops here.
Isnt it so deep? I think the developer didnt think that someone will do this with their game!
Nice that I can watch this here.
Freaky!
What is that door, can we open it? What door?
A door in Space Pirates Trainer?
Yes, here is a door and a card slot!
A trashcan!
If you cant move that perhaps the game has a virtual wall?
It doesnt work, I'm moving but the picture isnt moving anymore.
Ok, as I already said, its too dark know and we lost tracking!
Its sunset now and its getting darker, so I think we have to stop our experiment now.
Its important that its daylight without direct sunlight.
Perhaps it should be daylight, but cloudy. Lets get back to the studio!
Ok guys, that was my first World Scale experiment with my new gaming laptop and the Samsung Odyssey.
I hope you liked it! If so, I'd really appreciate a thumbs up and a sub!
So what can we say? Pavlov and Onward didnt really work.
However the games are the problem, they lock and area outside 10x10 meter.
It worked outside this area in Google Tilt Brush, but there my Laptop crashed.
Normally that doesnt happen in this game, perhaps its because my laptop is too slow or the game doesnt like this experiment.
It worked best with Space Pirates Trainer.
You've seen it in the video with my girlfriend, she could walk arount the whole platform!
That worked nice.
You've seen that it got darker outside, so that was the problem here when we lost tracking.
I brightened the video of us walking on the lawn, so that you could see it better, in real it was much darker!
When the sun goes down, it doesnt work anymore!
So you need daylight and not direct sunlight.
Perhaps a little bit cloudy.
Finally you need some got spots for the camera!
You've seen in the video there are trees, a street, a house and some sports equipment.
Here the WMR headset can orientate.
I was on a farmers field before and here it didnt work!
Mustnt me too big!
If you choose a sports field, it will be best!
OK guys what games do you want me to show in world scale as well?
Dont tell me games like Doom VFR or Fallout 4 VR!
My laptop wont do that with the batteries.
I need some games that dont need too much performance to test.
I have some ideas so there will me more videos.
However of course not every week, because its a lot of work to record these videos.
I hope you liked it!
Subscribe to me and I promise I will test the coolest VR stuff!
I'm testing nearly all VR games, every VR hardware, weekly news and giveaways.
Vive, Rift, WMR, PSVR.
Thats it guys! My first video of World Scale VR, I hope you liked it!
See you next time in advanced virtual reality, cheers guys!

DIY Ep 4: How To Paint Amphora Art On Vase | #CeramicArt | Mahnoor Rizvi | YouTube. - Duration: 6:57.
Hey What's up guys my name is Mahnoor Rizvi and welcome back to my channel.
Today I have decided to do a painting on an old ceramic which have been sitting in my
home quite a long time.
I have decided to paint amphora art as I have been fascinated with amphora art all of my life.
Those of you who aren't familiar with the word "Amphora" Well it's a term of Greek art.
Amphora were used in vast numbers for the storage of various products, both liquid and dry,
but mostly for wine. They are most often ceramic So, let's get started..
So, here I am measuring the center of this vase as I want to paint a war scenario in
the center and leaving a inch both from up and the bottom of this center.
After measuring, The most important part is drawing.
So, the design is 0.5 inch and it will be the borders of the handle.
And the drawing of horses is about a inch it will go on top and bottom of the center.
And my main focus will be this drawing where the Greeks and the city of Troy are actually
fighting..
Because I am picturing the war of the trojan.
In Greek mythology, the Trojan War was waged against the city of Troy by the Greeks.
This war is one of the most important events in Greek mythology.
After completing my drawing on paper I have transferred the drawing on the vase with the
use of transfer sheet (carbon paper).
Now the final and most important step painting. For painting this ceramic I am using Fabric Paints
I am using two colors black and golden yellow.
Alright guys our amphora vase is ready.
I hope you guys like it.
If you like this video your friends might like it too.

Disturbing Things In Pitch Perfect Only Adults Notice - Duration: 6:43.
Pitch Perfect star Anna Kendrick might not have thought that the now-iconic film would
be a success, but a legion of fans quickly proved her wrong.
However, there's a lot more to this movie than catchy tunes.
Many of the most intriguing - and disturbing - details in Pitch Perfect will likely only
be noticed if you're an adult.
Old actors playing young
If you thought that the main stars of the film look way older than the characters they're
portraying, you're right!
The core of the cast was well into their twenties when Pitch Perfect was filmed.
Anna Kendrick was roughly a decade older than the college freshman she was playing.
In fact, all of the other main cast members, Skylar Astin, Rebel Wilson, Anna Camp, and
Brittany Snow were all born in the 1980s — several years before their characters were even alive.
Unrealistic cash
It's easy to sympathize with Beca's desire to follow her dreams.
However, considering how prohibitively expensive a college education is, her dismissive attitude
reeks of ungrateful entitlement.
"... study on the grass!"
"I dont wanna study on the grass, Dad.
I need to move to LA and get a job at a record label and start paying my dues."
In this economy, anyone would jump at the chance of getting a free ride.
In 2016, the average college senior graduated with $37,000 in student loans.
"I want to produce music, I want to make music, Dad."
"But you're going to get a college education, first.
For FREE, I might add."
And speaking of money… who's funding the Bellas?
That bus the Bellas are riding costs hundreds of dollars to rent…
PER DAY!
If the competitions are held far enough away that the acapella groups need to rent a bus,
it's probably safe to assume that the trips are overnighters and they'll need hotel rooms,
too.
Who is forking over all the money for these competitions?
We never see the Bellas fundraising… not that they have the time.
So, seriously!
Where's this cash coming from?
Fat shaming
There are way too many fat jokes in Pitch Perfect for comfort.
It's a shame that actress Rebel Wilson is never allowed to show much of her comedic
range, considering that all of her scenes and character gimmicks are centered around
her weight.
"What's your name?"
"Fat Amy."
"Um, you call yourself Fat Amy?"
"Yeah, so twig b---es like you don't do it behind my back."
Her first scene in the film, where she introduces herself as Fat Amy, was actually cut short.
The original clip had even more cringe worthy lines about her size.
"Well, it used to be Medium-Sized Amy, but you know…
Freshman 50."
"Freshman…
50…."
But it's not just Amy joking about her own weight.
When the Bellas go to their first competition, the commentator makes some nasty remarks about
how they look.
"Wow!"
"Huh…"
"This does not look like the fresh-faced, nubile Bellas that we have come to know."
That statement seems to be directly linked to the two plus-sized women who have been
added to the group.
"It's, uh, refreshing yet displeasing to the eye."
Those commentators
Honestly, the commentators at the acapella competitions are the worst.
They've clearly been inserted to add yet another element of humor, but there's no way their
level of unprofessionalism would ever be allowed in real life. The male commentator, who is
shown to be demeaning towards women, is especially terrible.
"Women are about as good at acapella as they are at being doctors."
His sexist comments would get him fired in real life.
Acca-BYE.
Style over substance
Anyone who's ever worn a form-fitting pencil skirt knows just how tight and uncomfortable
they can be.
They might look stylish, but they're not really the best choice for a singing group's uniforms.
In order to support their voices, singers need to be able to take deeper breaths than
a tight pencil skirt would realistically allow.
As put-together as the Bellas look, it just isn't a smart choice.
"Is it me or are those skirts just not working anymore?"
Cut the sheet
Also, when the Barden Bellas are recruiting new members, they specifically ask people
if they can read sheet music.
"Can you read music?"
"...yeah."
While there's no denying that this is an important skill, in no scene do we ever actually see
a Bella actually reading music.
They seem to learn most of their numbers by ear, and are also shown to be great at improvising.
There's really no reason that they should need to know how to read music.
Racial insensitivity
It's undeniable that Hollywood has a problem with diversity, and Pitch Perfect is a prime
example of this.
Upon meeting your Asian-American roommate, your first question should not be about how
well they speak English.
"No, English?"
"Yes, English?"
"Just tell me where you're at with English."
Making assumptions about people based on their physical appearance is not only offensive,
but also horrifically ignorant.
After that rough start, you can't really blame Kimmy Jin for never quite warming up to Beca.
"Kimmy Jin is my friend."
"Nope!"
While Lilly, the film's second Asian-American character, is given more lines than Kimmy,
she is shown to be very quiet and very strange, more of a caricature than a character.
Cynthia-Rose, an African-American member of the Bellas, has a powerful set of pipes, but
most of her storyline consists of the rest of the Bellas making not-so-subtle comments
about her sexual orientation.
"This is hard for me to admit to you guys..."
"Bet we all know where this is going.
Lezzz be honest."
While she's given considerably more character depth than the film's other minorities, perhaps
Cynthia-Rose's storyline would have felt less problematic if the cast wasn't so overwhelmingly
white.
With so few people of color in this film, the fact that they always seem to be used
as comedic punchlines is a problem.
What's up with this college?
Here's the first thing that happens when Beca arrives on campus.
"Your campus map.
And your official BU whistle!
Don't blow it unless it's actually happening!"
The moment is played for laughs, but actually illuminates the very real assault problem
plaguing college campuses - and the fact that authority figures don't take it seriously.
There also seems to be a lot of drinking going on… in public places.
Considering that Beca is a college freshman, one would expect to see some underage drinking.
However, the open-container situation on campus is another story.
Is no one worried about campus security catching them?
Or is there no campus security?
Is the extent of security provided by Barden University just that whistle?
Clearly, this school is not invested in the safety of its students.
And speaking of university, the Barden Bellas have no class...
Literally!
While the intense acapella group holds their rehearsals in what we can assume is a music
classroom, you have to wonder if they're actually enrolled in college.
Their rigorous practice schedule hardly leaves any room for going to class, let alone studying
for exams or writing papers.
How do they fit in two hours of daily rehearsals, plus cardio, plus actually getting a college
education?
They don't seem to be worried about grades at all.
Neither, it seems, does their school.

Underrated Action Movies On Netflix You Need to See - Duration: 5:55.
Unlike other genres, action movies don't need to be filled with nuanced performances or
a watertight plot.
If anything, those things just get in the way of the face-punching.
All a good action movie needs is a sky-high bullet budget, some flippy kicks, and kerosene
burning through its veins from start to finish.
Fortunately, Netflix is jammed full of underrated action movies.
If you'd rather see bruised chins than Oscar wins, this action movie roundup will be right
up your alley.
Skin Trade
Dolph Lundgren, Ron Perlman, Michael Jai White, and Tony Jaa sounds like a dream action movie
cast if we've ever seen one, and Skin Trade delivers on that promise in spades.
Granted, the plot is pretty flimsy—it's basically cops and robbers in Thailand—but
the thrill of seeing these action legends all in one place doesn't wear off.
Lundgren manages to keep up with the much younger and more agile Jaa in some wild action
scenes, and Jai White is, as always, a magnetic on-screen talent.
Come for the talent lineup.
Stay for the insanity and fist fights.
Savage Dog
Scott Adkins is pretty much the undisputed king of direct-to-DVD action movies these
days, and Savage Dog is an impressive entry in his filmography.
We rarely get to see Adkins in a period piece, and even though he still mostly just beats
people up, he gets to do it in different costumes this time.
But beyond the unusual setting, Savage Dog is still something special.
The movie opens with Adkins' character digging his way out of a shallow grave, which is the
only way to start a movie like this.
The film then goes back in time, catching us up to the moment of his burial and then
sending him on a brutal path of revenge featuring some stunning fight sequences.
Adkins' filmography is littered with cool action hits, but Savage Dog is a clear high
point.
Bullet to the Head
Released in 2013, Bullet to the Head comes from Walter Hill, director of the 1979 cult
classic The Warriors.
It's pure grindhouse fun, which is exactly what a Walter Hill action flick starring Sylvester
Stallone should be.
Bullets fly, bodies drop, and cars are blown to bits over the course of the movie.
It's a great time, solidified by Jason Momoa's role as the film's villain.
You don't want to miss it.
Boyka: Undisputed
Scott Adkins headlines the later installments of the Undisputed series as Yuri Boyka, a
prison inmate who participates in a brutal underground prison fighting ring.
Boyka: Undisputed sees Boyka released from prison and fighting professionally, but the
fight scenes are just as stylish and brutal as any that came before this in the series.
Four movies in, Undisputed is as fun as it's ever been.
Bring on the next one.
Small Soldiers
Children of the '90s are likely to remember the toys that spawned from director Joe Dante's
Small Soldiers, along with the crushing disappointment that they didn't actually come to life and
try to blow up your house.
"Let me see that weapon.
Standard issue is insufficient."
The film itself is something of a forgotten gem—and one that's definitely made for a
younger audience—but an action movie is an action movie, and this one is actually
a lot of fun.
Small Soldiers is weird, campy, and features action figures going to war with each other,
which, for most kids, was the best toy-based combat outside of Toy Commander for the Sega
Dreamcast.
Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow
In a just world, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow would have been a box office smash
and ushered in a new era of elegant, stylistic action cinema.
Drawing heavily from pulp cinema and comic books, Sky Captain is a wild romp through
a steampunk reimagining of a pre-World War II world.
The titular Sky Captain is a charismatic ace pilot who leads the daredevil Flying Legion.
Played by Jude Law, he's joined by reporter Polly Perkins and a brief appearance by Angelina
Jolie as the eyepatched Royal Navy officer Franky Cook.
It's a great cast heading up a fun, visually inventive action film that deserves a far
larger fan following than it has today.
Officer Downe
Want to watch the craziest movie on Netflix?
Officer Downe has you covered.
Adapted from the comic by writer Joe Casey and artist Chris Burnham, there shouldn't
be a way to translate this insanity from page to screen.
And yet the film manages to pull it off.
Starring Kim Coates of Sons of Anarchy fame, it's a hyperkinetic neon thrill ride that
plays out like Judge Dredd in a fever dream.
This movie has everything: nuns with guns, an immortal super cop, and a hidden government
conspiracy.
What more could you ask for?
Fighting
It's kind of hard to remember the days when Channing Tatum wasn't a megastar, but back
before Magic Mike and 21 Jump Street, Tatum appeared in this little-seen gem.
Tatum plays the tough-as-nails Shawn, a hustler who discovers he's a prodigy as a street fighter.
The fight scenes are brutal, no-holds-barred affairs that translate the intensity of street
fighting to the screen very well.
Fighting was never going to win any Oscars, but it's a very interesting, and often overlooked
entry in a talented actor's career.
Death Sentence
Modern horror master James Wan — of Saw, Insidious and The Conjuring fame — took
a brief hiatus from the genre in 2007 with Death Sentence, a Kevin Bacon vehicle that
follows the tried-and-true narrative of a regular man out for revenge.
When his son is stabbed in a gang initiation ritual, Bacon's Nick Hume decides to take
the law into his own hands, waging a one-man war on crime in his city.
It's nothing action fans haven't seen before — but you haven't seen this kind of film
directed by a wiz like James Wan or with an actor so effortlessly good as Kevin Bacon.
Bacon channels Nick's relentless drive, grief, and rage in stunning, understated fashion.
Throw in John Goodman as the film's villain and you've got yourself a good time.
It may be familiar action movie territory, but sometimes that just means it's worth the
journey.

Did Michigan State Become A Hotbed For Pedophilia? - Duration: 7:56.
Larry Nassar was sentenced to 175 years in prison for sexually abusing underage girls
for decades, but now the parents of those victims are joining civil lawsuits against
the organizations that kept Larry employed throughout that entire period.
Joining me to talk about this is attorney Matt Schultz.
Matt, start by telling us, exactly who is Larry Nassar and what are the charges against
him.
Then we want to talk about how did it get so crazy.
Sure.
Well, to know Larry Nassar, you have to understand the USA Gymnastics Association, which is a
private organization that essentially selects, looks for, and trains up talent in the gymnastics
world for the US Olympic team.
Mr. Nassar, Dr. Nassar eventually, came to the US Gymnastics Association in the mid '80's
as a trainer, and eventually went to medical school and became a team doctor, if you will.
As it turns out, over the past 20, 25 years, there have been a series of sexual assaults
on young girls, and thankfully it's all come to light here recently.
He has been charged criminally.
He was charged by the federal government with child pornography in a separate issue, and
then eventually charged with destroying child pornography off of his computer, but he was
charged in state court with initially three sexual assaults on these young girls, and
then additional charges were filed.
And as you mentioned, Mike, he was recently sentenced to 175 years in prison for that.
We're now seeing a movement toward the civil lawsuits beyond the criminal charges.
Matt, you've tried cases all over the country.
You've been involved in some of the most complex cases in America.
And every time you go to trial, every time you engage in discovery, you usually see a
trend where we start early on in the case, you start hearing things.
Somebody says this about a product.
Somebody says this, a scientist or a doctor, and all of a sudden you keep hearing it again
and again, and typically what we see is corporations ignore the things that they think might interfere
with their profit margin.
Tell me what your take is on this in that regard.
Were there no signs that for more than 20 years he sexually abused women through his
work at Michigan State University and the USA Gymnastics?
These organizations had to have some warning signs, didn't they?
I think clearly they did.
We know there were complaints going back at least to the year 2000 with Michigan State.
There was a retrospective investigation done where they actually found cause.
In other words, found that he had molested one of these young girls back in that time
frame.
You know Mike, I looked up the budget of the USA Gymnastics organization.
We're talking about an organization that has somewhere around 28 million dollars in assets
on an annual basis.
This is not a small mom-and-pop operation.
They have a vested interest.
The university had a vested interest in seeing that this didn't come to light.
Now, I have not seen the evidence.
We will certainly have a lot more come to light between the attorney general special
prosecutor investigation, and of course, civil lawsuits, which are the greatest engine ever
invented for discovering corporate malfeasance like this.
So I predict that by the time we get into discovery on these cases, you will see that
there was a lot of knowledge from the top down.
Matt, we've seen this same scenario play itself out with the Catholic Church where, gee it's
like the three monkeys.
See no evil, hear no evil, and speak no evil.
We don't know what's going on.
I'm sorry.
We saw it with Penn State.
We see it again and again, this same scenario where somebody intentionally makes the decision
that profits are more important than the lives of those children that are being affected.
Now, is this civil suit, as you point out, civil suits are being filed against both the
USA Gymnastics and the university.
What do you think are the chances of these suits being successful?
What do you anticipate in understanding how a lawsuit evolves?
How do you typically see these things evolving to where we get one little bit of information
and that leads to the next, and then somebody blows a whistle.
What is your take on how you think this thing will evolve, based on the facts that you've
seen so far?
Well, we have seen that, Mike, you and I both in our work, whether it's tobacco companies,
pharmaceutical companies, Monsanto, who you were just speaking of.
You get in early into the investigation.
You have bits and pieces of information.
Once you can actually put somebody in the hot seat, get documents, start asking hard
questions of people when they're under oath and have nowhere to run.
Then you eventually get to the truth.
You mentioned the Sandusky affair at Penn State.
I think that's a good example.
You know, Louis Freeh, the former FBI head, did an investigation and revealed that Paterno
had knowledge, the university president, university vice president, the athletic director all
were implicated in that affair.
And you're going to see a similar investigation here, both from the attorney general and through
the civil lawsuits.
And I do believe we will, just given our experience in years of doing this, that we're going to
see you can't have this level of, frankly, depravity.
This consistent course of malfeasance, misconduct, without anyone knowing about it.
And we already know there are complaints lodged that the university and USA Gymnastics apparently
swept under the rug.
And of course, this story seems to fit into the same pattern of schools and other sports
organizations that are making money.
Understand, the university made a lot of money.
They look at the, what is the totality of the money coming in to the university.
That is going to trump every time.
It's going to trump the best interests of athletes, if they're affected, or students,
if they're at risk.
Always the pattern has been, we're always gonna opt for the side of our bottom line.
This really is a bottom line analysis, isn't it?
Don't you think by the time this is over, we're gonna see that this is all about dollars
and cents again?
It's not about children's welfare.
It's about dollars and cents.
What's your take?
I think that's right.
I think that's where this will end up, and that's why we have punitive damages under
our laws.
At least, most states do.
Punitive damages are to punish specifically corporations, whether it's universities or
again, pharmaceutical companies, tobacco companies or what have you, that put profits over safety
or, in this instance, over the emotional and physical welfare of the people in whose care
these organizations were vested.
And so I predict that by the time discovery is over and the full truth has come out, if
the universities and USA Gymnastics don't successfully settle these cases, that we will
see punitive damages on the table because I predict there will be that level of misconduct.
I agree.
One other prediction I have is that the NCAA as this goes forward will not do much to really
help.
NCAA is such a money machine.
They are an absolute cash cow, and they're gonna do everything they can do to make sure
that this is minimized as far as the impact.
Matt Schultz, thank you for joining me.
I want to stay with you as these cases develop.
Thank you for being here.
Great.
Great to be here, Mike.

[MUSIC PLAYING]
My friends are the worst.
Oh my god.
Blair, I'm the worst, but I had to cancel brunch today
because I'm getting married.
The rest of my year will be devoted to planning
my storybook wedding.
You are totes a bridesmaid, though.
And don't worry, I will let you wear a tux.
Oh my god.
Blair, I'm a garbage person for canceling,
but I actually can't make brunch.
The baby is teething, so sorry.
Oh no, Blair.
I'm like the worst garbage person who
ever garbaged slash was a person,
but I actually can't make brunch.
No excuse, just flaking.
But I know you'll forgive me and be my friend no matter what
I do to you, so it's all good.
Garbage person, it me.
[LAUGHING]
So I'm breaking up with them.
And actually, it's pretty easy to abandon a friend group.
But no one tells you how hard it is to start new.
Like, it's hard to make new friends.
So in an effort to make new friends,
I'm befriending a coworker.
[MUSIC PLAYING]
Hey Karen, want to grab drinks?
It's actually Carol, and yeah.
How about tonight?
Nah.
I love making new friends.
Um.
Tomorrow?
Ah.
Thursday?
Nah.
Want to do Friday? I can do Friday.
- No. - Next weekend works too for me.
Crap, no.
OK.
I'm the worst.
