4 Tips On Raising Money For A Movie by Darroch Greer and Ron King - Duration: 6:46.

Film Courage: In keeping with the $25,000 initial grant when did you realize you needed more and

then how did you end up getting more funding what was your process well we we

knew we needed more and we got to know two grandsons of the first unit members

Harry Davidson in Manhattan and Mike Davis in Atlanta they're cousins and

share a grandfather Truby Davison and we asked them to be on our fundraising

committee and for I think three and a half years every Thursday morning at 6

a.m. West Coast time we would talk to them about you know people they knew

foundations they might be aware of to raise money and we wrote a lot of

letters and Ron and I we'd go to these coasts to interview people and do

production and film planes or whatever we do and then we'd go to New York and

we'd show what we had at the Dolby screening room there and try to get

people to write checks for us and you know we'd get $100 here $100 there and

it just it just really wasn't doing it but Ron started writing a quarterly

newsletter and we started collecting email addresses and sending this out and

letting them know it was going and gradually it got out to more and more

foundations we we learned that there was a level of of money and foundations that

you don't really hear about but but that wealthy families you know have to give

away X amount of money every year for for tax purposes and so there were

people that had some relation to the story whether it was through Yale

whether it was through the Navy or whether they just wanted to hear a

patriotic see a patriotic story being told and then and we kept trying for a

corporate sponsor we we worked on JP Morgan for for over two years because

originally Truby Davis and young guy who founded the unit his father was JP

Morgan's business partner and JP Morgan had given the four CEO unit $100,000 to

get started and buy airplanes and so we knew some people working at Morgan and

we went to them and said we'd like the same amount of money adjusted for

inflation we were asking for $200,000 but all that

time we were working out every week in the news there just be horrible reports

about their corporate behavior and Jamie Dimon and they've done this and they've

done that and and but you know what we still wanted the money we still kept

trying to get it and the end it fell through and and I think sort of out of

embarrassment and kindness they gave us $25,000 which which helped but in the

end our corporate sponsor was FedEx and we had been wanting to go to them for a

long time because Fred Smith the founder went to Yale he started the Yale Aero

Club and I think he was a marine but he flew he flew with the Navy I think in

Vietnam or at least during Vietnam and so we were all but sure he'd be aware of

the story and indeed the story was something that really meant something to

him he was also a member of skull and bones the way probably five of these

first Yale unit guys were as well and so in the end gap they came through with

the last hundred and fifty thousand dollars that we needed to finish the

film yeah I mean in terms of the other little bit on fundraising that I'll

mention is that our fundraising was always driven by necessity so it wasn't

like we were just trying to raise money randomly for you know to say oh we would

like to raise you know twenty two hundred fifty thousand dollars or

something like that never was like that it was always based on necessity so we

as we were developing the script and we started editing we'd realize there was a

big chunk that we needed to go somewhere to film or a group of people that we

needed to interview and just and then we budget for those particular parts of the

film so we yes we had an overall budget for the film but as we went along over

those seven years we kind of did mini budgets where we said oh we need to do

that particular shoot how much does that particular shoot gonna cost okay it's

going to cost and we break it all down travel whatever else was involved and

and then we been our fundraising efforts would drive toward fulfilling that

particular chunk so in the newsletter we would say we need twenty five thousand

dollars to film a sopwith camel or we need twenty thousand dollars for our

composer right those were two things that we really put out there saying this

is the next big thing we need and you know we would be out of money you know

at each of each of these stages yeah and this was a quarterly newsletter you said

that you uh it was intended to be a quarterly newsletter and most of the

time it was quarterly but a couple times it was off schedule but generally it was

a quarterly yes so you it does I find that fascinating so you would weave in

like your own stories or different things and then you also had information

on what was next for the final yeah as a matter of fact the first thing that we

did before we even started fundraising seriously was that we actually put our

website together first which was kind of a little weird way of doing it you know

and what we did as part of our website is we put up the imagery that we already

had and we started to create kind of a historical online museum as it were and

and the the website that we first put up is actually still up there today

but that gave us kind of somewhere where our potential contributors followers

could go and see you know what we were about and what we were trying to do over

time and then as people got on the on the email list that you know that there

was the added reach out reach with the newsletter actually the very first thing

we did after we put together the nonprofit organization and got our board

together which were friends of ours is Ron and I put together a PowerPoint

presentation yeah what the story was and they all fell asleep was this that like

some type of a mixers no is it my house here's the story and I applied them with

wine and you know fell asleep

On my last video about a flashlight... you're like "didn't see it."

Oh maybe it was about a knife.

Who gives a shit.

Kyle Miller asserted without sources that somehow expensive purple knives are basically

a sinister sign of being part of a secret knife cult.

I don't like sources anyway.

Don't trust em.

Now we all know that We knives are the ultimate purple knives, but also that you need half

a rent check if you live in Missouri or an 8th of a rent check if you live in the government

parts of Virginia to buy one.

This applies to renters only because a home owner wouldn't buy a $400 purple knife.

But Gear Best being the sugar daddy they are somehow knew all this, and didn't take no

for an answer.

They don't carry We's but they carry other purple knives that are titanium and like a

$100 with air quotes D2 steel.

So what I'm trying to say is the purple knives find a way, even if you refuse at first.

And while we ponder when exactly I'll buy a $400 purple knife while Tactical Center

Elite says… hey isn't that a clone of the Dmitry Sinkevich Full Custom Leaf Pattern

Knife?

Let's look at the overall length and weight.

They also make these in gray and blue.

Handle size and grip area.

You know what maybe I have a blue and not a purple one.

Spine thickness and handle thickness.

It's a very purple blue.

Maybe Violet.

Tallness Height, you know the side length when it's like this.

And flipper protrusion.

So this knife looks to be a copy of a Sinkevich custom knife that only 2 or 3 or 5 were made.

I searched for about half an hour and couldn't find buyable versions other than the Chinese

ones.

The main difference between the 2 or 3 available and these are this one has no spine jumping

and the colors are different.

Also D2 steel.

So let's look at the drop point D2 steel blade.

My experience and some stuff I've read online is that D2 is one of the more rust discoloration

prone of the stainless steels.

Cedric and Ada has done some tests on D2… and one Brous Razorback blade I use for some

steak one night became discolored a bit, which is a terrible story.

The blade is sharp as shit out of the box, and the satin fished blade long and comes

to a nice point.

The blade pivots on a ball bearing system and is deployed via a flipper stud or tab.

I'm the only one who calls it a stud.

As an American I find it my right to stay willfully ignorant about whatever I choose.

Deploymennt is very consistent and fluid.

As smooth as a lion steel clone or maybe even a real lion steel.

The tab ain't got no jimping, which is nice because you don't need it.

The blade is locked into place by a frame lock or Reeve Integral Lock if you'd like

to call it by it's proper name- by it's proper developer Chris Reeve's ex wife.

If this were made in America she'd get .25.

You're like where did you get that information.

Sorry the source document is classified.

The frame lock has a hardened steel insert as not to damage the beautiful titanium of

the fame lock.

It covers 'bout this much of the tang.

The handle the handle is made from two pieces of #d milled titanium.

It may look like each side is made from several layered pieces but they ain't.

As we all know titanium can be as strong as steel in theory but weighs more than aluminum.

However when it's milled out like this you save a lot of weight.

A 3 and 3/4 inch blades knife with a weight well under 4 ounces is actually impressive.

This is a fairly large knife.

The handle grip area fits my hands very well- like they made it for me.

It might crowd the digits of hands larger than mine, but I still have a bit of room

to spare.

As far as hot spots go… nothing jumps out whilst cutting cardboard of my new power tools.

You know these only cost slightly more than this knife.

One even "assembled" in the USA and the other in Hungary.

I often wonder about where along the chain of raw materials and knife making the hustle

lies.

I feel like the steel dudes are the ones making the money…

I have no evidence to back any of this up but it's something I think about.

The handle has an open backed design with some pins and a back spacer.

All to save weight I assume.

The knife comes in it's own case with a skull bead sculpture and a pivot adjustment

tool.

So you don't even have to hit up Bud K to make your knife extremely fashionable and

tactical.

By the way a skull bead makes anything tactical- even your purple knife.

Or your Chris Reeve.Blade retention when closed is fairly good you have to fling it real hard

to get it to open.

Like real hard.

Like you've been drankin hard.

Pocket clip.

Molded weird shaped pocket clips either just suck like my Benchmade 765 or are just ok

like this one.

This one sometimes has problems going in the pocket smoothly, but ones you get the proper

pocket clip bend down it's alright.

It ain't deep carry however it sticks out much less than it might look because of the

handle the pocket clip is mounted.

About a 1/3 sticks out if it's nestled in the corder of your pocket.

If I had my way every pocket clip would be a spoon style like a spyderco even if it made

the knife uglier.

It's why I review knives and don't make them.

Ok are we at comparison time yet?

First up the TC4, sometimes it's called a Vespa on places like DH Gate or wherever

fine Chinese knockoffs are sold.

I have no idea if any of these companies paid for the right to make knives like this…

however since there's only two or three examples in the world.

I guess they traced their computer screens.

Next up the Chris Reeve Sebenza 21.

A nice integral folder.

About 5 times the cost, and I feel generally the same about them.

They're both good… the Reeve deploys much slower, and is a much more dubious financial

decision.

Now the Para Military 2.

This one is from a company called Spydercos.

It's good an considered one of the finest examples of an every day carry knife.

It deploys fast, is reliable, has a nice lock, a nice handle, and is also purple.

If you had to buy one knife here this would be the one.

How about the full sized crooked river.

It's bigger and clippier.

And heavier.

It looks like a knife also.

you might think the TC4 here has a slick handle but the leaf pattern adds some hand friction,

non of it is sharp.

However during extreme prolonged use there are a few blunt areas near the flipper and

front of the handle that may wear on the dangers.

Let's see?

How about the quartermaster Strickland.

Ha ha just kidding.

Any others?

I think we're done here.

The TC4 is actually a very fine well made knife.

I had no idea it would be this light and I really see no reason why it wouldn't make

a fine every day carry knife for people who carry knockoffs.

Ok or even real knives.

It fits all of my requirements for every day carry knives.

Like being purple, being under 4 ounces.

Larger than 3 inch cutting edge.

Deploys and closes easily.

The butt of the knife does wear on the hands if you fidget with it more than use it- which

can be said about things other than knives too.

With knives that are as open as this, I'd think twice about putting things like keys

in the same pockets.

I have dinged up blades of open back knives before when I carry change or metallic things

in my pocket.

And theres a lot of room for stuff to get wedge within the webbing.

we need to pay for them.

The knowledge of it weighing down on us is in itself a form of punishment.

But this is only one way of looking at it.

Varied interpretations exist.

The Mystics tell us that there is always a cause and an effect.

This is the very foundation of our reality and our consciousness and hermits everywhere

will tell you the same.

When we become a part of the all pervading wisdom, we will see that karma isn�t the

soul penalizing itself but rather an attempt at expansion.

Trying to experience everything, even failures and mistakes are only chances for us to expand

our learning.

This is something that continues throughout each lifetime.

When you clear your karma, you can ascend to a higher level of consciousness that is

free from all constraints.

Till you break free, you�ll be stuck in the same old pattern of births and deaths,

without much difference in each life.

You need to find out how to expand in the life that you are living now and keep pushing

on despite all the challenges that you face.

Whenever you feel like you�re stagnating because of some hurdles just move on to something

else.

Struggling with the same issue for too long will only energize it so just turn away from

it and focus on the vastness of the Universe.

Let your radiant self rise out of the turbulent seas of life and run like a rippling brook.

In the beginning, you will think that it is coming from some higher plane but you will

soon realize that it is coming from inside you.

Integrate and consolidate yourself.

Find the divinity that exists within and everywhere.

Don�t think that you are a victim of destiny.

Take destiny in your hands and you�ll realize all that you can do.

Make love the foundation of all that you do and share it with

the world.

Jay Z's Company Arrive Just Made a Big Investment in the Stock Trading App Robinhood - Duration: 1:43.

//// Jay Z was not joking when he talked about getting "financial freedom" on 4:44.

The Roc Nation-owned company Arrive just announced it would be investing in Robinhood, a free

stock trading app.

Speaking on the app's co-founders Baiju Bhatt and Vlad Tenev, Arrive President Neil Sirni

said:

"We believe in Baiju and Vlad's mission to make the financial markets more accessible

and cost-efficient for customers of all sizes.

Robinhood will have our support as they execute the long-term vision of their company."

Robinhood debuted in 2013 and has amassed more than 3 million users.

It's currently valued at 1.3 billion dollars.

In January, the company announced Robinhood Crypto, which allows users to partake in commission-free

Bitcoin and Ether trading as well.

In 2017, Jay Z and Roc Nation launched Arrive with a mission to invest in start-ups.

Since then, Arrive has invested in French audio technology company Devialet and a location

sharing platform, InSite Applications, which is scheduled to launch in 2018.

Jay Z isn't stopping there.

S. Carter Enterprises recently filed trademark paperwork for Hovino.

The paperwork claims that it will be used for "goods and services" related to "restaurant

and café services, carry-out restaurant services, pubs, cocktail lounges, wine bars, and more."

S. Dot Carter is also looking to take his Paper Planes brand into athletic gym bags,

tour books, jewelry and a possible cosmetics line.

The paperwork claims Jay may expand Paper Planes into department stores, an online shopping

site, and musical recordings as well.

There's no stopping Hov ever, and we're definitely here for it.

Hello everyone, this is Jeff from the Overwatch team.

We're here to talk to you today about our Lunar New Year event

called "Year of the Dog."

We're super excited for it this year because we have a lot of awesome

stuff coming.

The biggest and best part of the "Year of the Dog" celebration,

in my opinion, is a brand new map that will be bringing you.

This map takes place in Thailand is absolutely gorgeous.

One side of the map is ancient and shows some temple that's

very gorgeous and the other side is bright and beautiful and very modern.

We think you'll enjoy it, but the coolest part, in my opinion, is it's the

first map that we've ever built specifically for Capture the Flag.

As you guys know, we introduced Capture the Flag last year during

the "Year of the Rooster" event and we wanted to bring it back

this year, but make a custom map specifically for Capture the Flag.

We thought we could do a lot to improve the game-mode.

We also took a lot of feedback and advice from you guys

and we looked at the game rules in CTF and we made a bunch of changes.

So, let me walk you through those as quickly as possible.

First off, there's no more draws anymore.

We know historically every time we've had draws in Overwatch, there has been

discontent in the player base and we want to get rid of draws.

We know that they're not very exciting and they can feel very anticlimactic.

So, we've added a Sudden-Death mechanic if the two teams

are tied at the end of time; what will happen is both teams flags are moved

closer to the center of the map and then the map resumes at that point and the

teams will go for the flags and then they only have

a very short distance to cap.

The other thing that's very exciting is we've changed the flag pickup roles.

So, now picking up the flag is instant, but if you use

certain abilities and these abilities are limited to things that either

give you invulnerability or give you great mobility, those abilities

will drop the flag.

We call these "restricted abilities."

So, certain abilities, I'll give you an example: Winston's Leap.

His jump pack will drop the flag when he uses it.

We found that by doing this that the rate of capture is much higher,

the games are now much more offensive, and much more action-packed and it's

actually very rare for games to even go to sudden death now.

So, we think it's really exciting.

Capture the Flag plays fantastically on the new map.

There's something else very exciting coming for "Year of the Dog" and

that's that we will be having a four week Competitive Season for Capture the Flag.

So, we think this will be a lot of fun if you get in the Top 500 you'll get a

special spray and player icon.

Anybody who places will also get a special spray.

So, that should be very cool and just playing CTF at a competitive level

we think will be fun for a few weeks.

Now as I just mentioned, I corrected myself, I said four weeks.

This Lunar New Year event, "Year of the Dog", is going to run for

four weeks this time.

And something we learned last time when we ran the event is

because a lot of people are traveling during Lunar New Year they actually

missed part of the event last year.

So, we wanted to extend it to give more people a chance who were traveling

to experience the event.

So, we think that should be awesome.

Some other things that I think you'll be very excited about

I know that you all love skins and there are six amazing

legendary skins as part of "Year of the Dog."

To give you a small hint and a teaser of two of the heroes that

will be getting skins.

Now I know that there's some of our least played heroes,

but mercy and Genji will both be getting skins and I think you'll find

them to be pretty awesome.

I was totally kidding about them being least played by the way.

We also have a really cool highlight intro for one of the heroes coming

and a lot of other really great content.

So, we think you'll find that to be a lot of fun.

All-in-all we had a ton of fun making this event.

We hope you has have as much fun playing it as we did making it.

Small Youtubers To Watch - Between 500 and 28,000 Subscribers - Duration: 8:16.

Hey, friends.

Welcome back.

For those of you who don't know me, I'm Courtney and I have my two standard poodles, Phaedra

and Nyx in the room behind me so you may see them walking around.

Today, I'm bringing you a video inspired by Jen Luvs Reviews.

She recently did a video about YouTubers under 5,000 and this video is basically about different

YouTubers that I like to watch that are between 500 and 5,000 subscribers.

There are a couple towards the end that are just under 30,000 but I wanted to go ahead

and talk about all of them with you and I'm going to kind of run through this quickly.

They're in no particular order.

First up is Clumps of Mascara.

This is by my friend Brittany.

She has 11,000 subscribers.

She's a local friend of mine who's in Orlando and she talks about beauty and lifestyle.

She also talked about more serious issues like being black in America.

She was recently flown out to LA to be at the Black Panther premiere on the purple carpet,

which was amazing.

She looked so good.

Then, we have my friend Eugenia.

She has about 2,400 subscribers.

She mostly focuses on hair and makeup.

She's got a lot of really great video videos of her at Monaco Salon, which is a South Tampa

salon.

She has Asian hair and so it's very dark and thick and so she has taken it through a whole

bunch of different colors.

She went blonde.

She went light pink.

She went hot pink and most recently, she has pink and a bright purple.

It looks amazing so you should definitely check her out.

Then, we have my friend Emily from Emily Wolf Beauty.

She makes makeup tutorials and she just recently shared a really cool video about having eyelash

… What was it?

She just recently shared a cool video about getting her eyelashes permed and tinted, which

makes me want to give it a try but I'm going to see how it lasts for her.

It's supposed to last for about two months.

I like that she's doing videos like this.

Her tutorials are amazing.

She is so talented like I feel like I have no skill compared to her because she is so,

so good.

She's a total sweetheart.

She's cruelty-free and she also does some, I think some fashion and lifestyle too.

Next, we have Jen, my friend Jen from My Beauty Bunny.

She has around 7,000 subscribers.

She does makeup reviews and tutorials and our friend Roxy used to be on her channel

but Roxy blew up, Roxette Arisa.

Jen is one of my biggest influences for why I went cruelty-free so she's somebody definitely

to check out.

I think you'll really enjoy her.

Next up, we have some of the girls from the PhyrraNyx Facebook group, we have Dizzy Girl

Makeup and she does a lot of really fun stuff.

She'll cover indie brands.

She'll do hair tutorials like how to style your hair and she's also done some wig reviews.

She's around 1,300 subscribers right now.

Next up, we have Eyes on Allison.

She has 4,400 subscribers right now.

I've mentioned her before as a channel that you should watch.

She does makeup, decluttering, crafts, different kinds of stuff and she's a real sweetheart.

Then, there's Geek Out of Water.

She has around 3,300 subscribers and she does a lot of makeup over 40, skincare over 40,

foundation over 40, and she has dry skin similar to mine but not exactly like mine so I really

appreciate her videos.

Then, we have my friend Kath from the Fabzilla.

She has around 2,200 subscribers and she just recently went all vegan.

I think she's had a vegan lifestyle but not been vegan with her makeup for like 10 years

but she covers how to transition on her blog, as well as on her YouTube channel.

She's also been doing a lot of vegan fashion reviews so I think that you'll find her very

interesting especially considering her background.

She does work in the medical industry.

Next, we have Ashley and she's better known as Lipstickitty.

She's a real sweetheart.

She's part of the Kat Von D Collective Artistry.

She has around 4,000 subscribers right now but she's been cruelty-free for a very long

time.

On her channel, you'll see cruelty-free and vegan makeup reviews and tutorials and

she is super skilled obviously or she wouldn't be working for Kat Von D.

Next up, we have Makeup Struggles.

Now, she's got like 18,600 or probably almost 19,000 subscribers right now and I love her

videos because she gives you something that you're not really going to get anywhere else

because she's just very frank with you.

She is explicit and she warns in her video that she's going to be swearing because that's

just how she is and I appreciate that but she does a lot of like fun makeup talks.

She does really, really cool, "Let me redesign these palette videos."

I really enjoy her anti-hauls.

I love her taste in makeup too because she likes a lot of similar colors to me.

She likes cool tones and she likes grays, so yeah, I think she has great taste and I

think she's really funny.

Next, we have Mariam and she has around 500 subscribers and she does a ton of indie beauty

so if you like Fyrinnae or Silk Naturals or Aromaleigh or anything like that, if you're

looking for duo chrome eyeshadows, she is your girl.

She does all kinds of swatches and she also does tutorials too.

Next up is Rebecca Shores.

She has around 11,000 subscribers and she does beautiful hooded eye makeup tutorials.

I had the pleasure of meeting her when I was out in LA for Jen Beauty and she is a total

sweetheart and she just recently had a baby but she is still at it making very beautiful

and creative eye shadow looks.

Next up is Rina Reviews and she has around 600 subs.

She's also in the PhyrraNyx Facebook group and she does a lot of like indie beauty and

she does reviews and she does tutorials.

She does like anti-haul and declutters, so she's a lot of fun.

Next up is my friend Miranda of Slashed Beauty.

She has around 12,000 subscribers.

Now, she does a lot of drugstore beauty.

That's her focus.

Sometimes, she'll work in some lifestyle and she just recently got married and went on

her honeymoon but mostly, she focuses all on drugstore beauty and she does a lot of

great swatches.

She has great reviews and I really like her makeup tutorials as well.

Plus, I have total hair envy.

Her hair is so gorgeous and thick.

I wish mine was like that.

Next, we have Smacy.

She does a lot of really fun, colorful tutorials.

I like her tutorials.

I think that they're fun to follow.

She also has some really interesting chitchat videos that you might like as well.

Next up is Sofie U.

She's also in the PhyrraNyx Facebook group and she has around 3,400 subscribers.

She's a UK-based makeup artist and she just does a lot of great tutorials.

Next up is Vegan Beauty Review.

You may know Sunny because she has a pretty big blog.

She has around 4,400 subscribers on YouTube and she focuses on cruelty-free and vegan

beauty.

Next up, we have Tashina from Logical Harmony.

She, like Jen from My Beauty Bunny, were two of the biggest reasons that I went cruelty-free

in 2012.

I love Tashina.

She is amazing.

She's got about 23,500 subscribers on YouTube at the time of this video and she really does

focus on cruelty-free and vegan makeup.

She does tutorials.

She does hauls.

She does basically stuff like that and I find her very enjoyable.

Her video quality is really high.

She has two different cameras, so she can shoot different angles when she's doing tutorials

she's got a really great sound equipment, really great lights.

I feel like she puts out very high quality videos.

Then, we have Kailey Baute and she's got about 24,000 subscribers and she does a lot of really

cool makeup reviews and talk videos and I think that you'll really enjoy her.

She also does some indie.

My video camera shut off and I didn't realize it didn't record this section about Ivy.

Ivy's another member of the PhyrraNyx Facebook group.

She's awesome.

She does a lot of different types of reviews like she does a lot of great wig reviews.

She also does makeup reviews and she does tutorials.

She's a lot of fun so please check her out.

She's got around 23,799 subscribers.

Last but not least is Angelica and I will butcher her last name so I'm not going to

do that.

I'm very sorry but I don't know how to pronounce it.

It's Swedish.

She has around 28,000 subscribers.

She does the most amazing, beautiful, colorful looks like really colorful eyeshadow tutorials.

I have total eye envy over the shape of her eyes because she's got so much lid space.

She does a lot of indie brands.

She does a lot of really interesting fun tags, just … and she's very creative so I think

that if you like color, you will love her channel.

She just recently did a really cool channel on how to make your own Jeffree Star Blood

Sugar palette.

Rather than buying Jeffree Star, instead she gave suggestions on some really great colors

and ways to shop your stash, which I thought was brilliant.

It kind of reminded me a little bit of my makeup geek DIY palette series.

Anyway, those are my picks for people that you should check out that are all under 30,000.

I will put everybody's name and links to other channels in the description box below.

I already have it all written up, so there's no way I will forget a link when I put this

into the description box of this video.

There are a lot of great small YouTubers out there and I know that YouTube's algorithm
