Waching daily Oct 15 2018

In low peat areas was earlier of the peat soil often made peat.

That was heavy manual work. With a bracket they got the peat from under the

water surface and threw it into a drip tray and there it became

mixed in water. The thick knit was collapsed on the land

to dry. If the mass was dry enough then there could

peers from being stung. That after that

still had to dry for a few months.

Immediately north of Heerenveen this hard work did not lead alone

that carloads turf for in the heater

but also digging it up to rich nature peat area is now a mosaic of water, reed,

marsh bushes and small narrow grasslands.

Those grasslands are the legacies, on which the peat was laid too dry.

You can also see the dike that the polder

had to protect against the waxing water from the Middle Sea. A sea arm

that in the Middle Ages through Friseland walked.

in spite of the dykes the through it

the polders regularly with a layer sea clay

was deposited thus created a landscape that is reminiscent of the salt marshes

along the Wadden Sea and that in the heart of Friesland

De Deelen has the status of wetland and is therefore

a nature area of international allure and it is a protected nature area

autumn and winter thousands come ducks and geese

including wigeons, colgusta, shoveler and barnacle geese to the Deelen.

Rare species such as the black tern, purple heron and brown harrier live

in the area. If you listen carefully you may be in the spring

hear grasshopper singer singing

Organize with Me: Under the Guest Bathroom Sink - Duration: 8:31.

Hi lovelies! It's me, Simply Cherie, helping you make home and entertaining simple. If

you're new to my channel and you like organizing and decluttering videos,

please consider subscribing. I love doing those things on my channel. Today i

am going to refresh, reorganize, declutter under the sink in the guest bathroom. I

decluttered and reorganized under the guest bathroom sink I think about a year

ago. It was right after I had the new vanity put in because we had a little

flood in her house and insurance took care of it. So I was going through it a

couple weeks ago and noticed that it looks a little bit untidy. So let's tidy

it up, declutter some things, and I saw some things in there that we're really

not using. So I'm probably gonna get rid of those. This is what it looks like.

If you want to see my other video of how I organized and refreshed the medicine

cabinet, I'll put it in the i-cards above. I think it's the Home Depot brand. I

forgot the name of it. Something like Home Decorators. And I just switched out the

knobs. They came with a chrome one about a year ago. We got a new cabinet and

vanity both from Home Depot. So you can see it's relatively organized. I'm just

gonna take everything out, wipe it down, and then reorganize it. Take anything out

here that we're not absolutely using or need for guests. And then this is the

other side yeah so I do do that sometimes like I got these

put a nice place for that and then this drawer has some cleaning rags some more

supplies there and these are like they look like books you know they're like

little boxes and I use these a lot too before you can put like here I have hair

bands the other one I have the hand sanitizers you can put remote controls

if you put it in the family room liquid hand soap there and some more soap I

guess I will change that you know I get some slack from calling it feminine care

so maybe I'll just put what should I name it leave me a comment below okay

then here are some bath supplies which aren't completely all back supplies I

have lots of sunscreen and that's been an issue because I would buy sunscreen

and I'd have them in different areas so this is where I keep the hair dryer be

there I need to fix that cleaning caddy stays relatively organized I need a new

one of those I just gotta fix this I've probably wash it

all right so I'm gonna keep this extra off I might let go of this okay this

goes with the other bars of soap keeping that shower gel okay so this is

gonna go up to my room I'm keeping all the sunscreen here okay this will also

go to my room I use that and here's another sunscreen and then let me just

wipe out the inside drover

so I'm gonna bring this up to my room we'll use that one up all right this

will go to my room also we'll use that up and we are pretty good at using up

products those things are all going up to my room to be used and this one will

be put in its proper place I will put here with the soap because that is part

of the best supplies here I'm gonna organize it pretty much the same as I

did before that will go on top there I like this material and I'm just gonna

keep it like that instead of putting a shelf liner there were two other

containers in this drawer and I opened them just now this is my dog she's a

dachshund Molly I'm gonna put this with her stuff and then here are some more

sunscreen again so I think I'm gonna put all the sunscreen in here these are

gonna go with my first-aid kit that's upstairs

I'll keep this with bath supplies and so I'm going to get all these sunscreens

I'm trying to fit them all in here if they do okay they don't all fit so I

put one there that's bad supplies in this container I put all the extra

sunscreens in here so now I know how much sunscreen I have to buy more and

then those three full bags of Epsom salt and the one that was opened are in here

I know that I can fill that up that would go there and then the cleaning

rags are here so that's what the drummer looks like then this bag has the

original knobs for the cabinet I'm gonna go ahead and donate these because it's

been a year and I'm not switching out the knobs for the cleaning caddy I went

ahead and just tidied it up like that I think it might be better here since the

cleaning rags are here in the drawer I'll have the towels here so these

towels are from Target and then the hairdryer basket will be over here to

the right so I just tied up the cord there hair spray

these are all the things that came out of the cabinet there so the rags I'll

just be washing that's donate this will go to Molly's

stuff all those will go to my bathroom to be used up this will go to the

cleaning supplies in the laundry room and this will also go to the laundry

room and then I sell that coupons those are still good till the end of the year

this is what the gifts bathroom sink looks like I'd like it to be as tidy as

possible and then when you go to open this it's all nice and tidy and

refreshed and organized now everything has a purpose and I know where my extra

supplies are and there's nice breathable space there and then for the guests they

know that the hairdryer is here in this basket and extra towels will be in here

I hope you enjoyed this video please leave a comment below and let me know

what you absolutely have to have under the sink in your guest bathroom and I

will see you in the next one bye okay I looked out my front window because I

thought somebody was peeking in that's scary that's scary

Löyly Parallel Squonker l by Löyly Mods from Stancia.PRO l ENG SUBS l Alex VapersMD review 🚭🔞 - Duration: 12:01.

Hello there!

Today our guest is Löyly Parallel Squonker by Löyly Mods from Finland

Let's roll!

Hey hey hey! Hello everyone! Alex VapersMD is here and I'm glad to welcome you on my channel

And today our guest is squonk box mod by Tomi Lehto, straight from Finland

I know Tomi for a pretty long time, we even had a live stream together

And at one time Tomi made an exclusive box mod with parallel connection for me

But it was a long time ago, Tomi was just getting started back then and it looked not as cool as it look now

So, friends, what's the main feature of this device?

Well, first feature, in my opinion, is the fact, that this mod can fit 24mm atomizers

And second feature - this mod is powered by dual 18650's in parallel connection

Overall, let's not delay the moment of close up. Let's dive down and look what kind of box mod it is

Let's go

So, friends, standard case, which we've seen before in a variety of ways

It was mostly with mechanical mods

Here we have a sticker, which says that manufacturer of the thing inside is Löyly Mods

And a lot of interesting things wait for us inside

This is Tomi Lehto's business card with his contacts

And here we have authenticity certificate and it's filled by hand

Model Alex, Serial number is 1, I guess

Date of manufacturing and signature of a maker

Of course in the kit we have a mod itself with pre-installed bottle

A bag with two extra button locking parts - so overall there's three of them - one is pre-installed

And two keys for connector disassembly

Of course I was very surprised, because this mod was sent to me by Stancia.PRO and already had my logo on it

Turns out, guys from Stancia informed Tomi that they are going to send me the mod for review

And Tomi decided to make a gift for me - my logo on the battery. Thanks a lot Tomi, it's very nice

But let's talk about specs of this device

This mod is made out of nylon AKA polyamide and available in 9 colors

Black, White, Blue, Red, Green, Pink, Orange, Yellow and Purple

And in Stancia.PRO it's available only in two colors - Black and Red

Mod features landing of atomizers with diameter up to 24mm and has a famous English made connector MM510

Contact group is made out of beryllium copper, that is cut by a laser

And this mod is powered by dual 18650 batteries in parallel connection

It comes with 6ml SJMY silicone bottle

Also this mod can be fully disassembled for cleaning and maintenance

Height of the mod is 72.5mm, width is 63mm, thickness is 26mm and pure weight of the device is 74 grams

But let's go in order. At the top we have that MM510 connector

Metal connector with squonk pin and landing for atomizers with diameter up to 24mm

As you can see - you will not have any issues if you screw down 24mm RDA, since there's plenty of room

Also, from the top we can see the main feature of design of this mod - this rounded angle and due to that this mod is very ergonomic

Even despite the fact that it is powered by two 18650 batteries

On rear side of the mod we have a logo of manufacturer - Löyly Mods and a dwarf

Also you can see 7 vent holes on that rounded part

On this side is plastic Fire button, which is very protruding and you'll never miss it upon pressing

Bottom side is blank and you already saw the battery door

I think you noticed, that Black is the main color of this mod , but there's a white attritions all around the body

It looks cool and unusual and it's kinda like this mod already been used

But it is looking great

And before we'll take a look under that door and what's inside, let's talk about the door itself

A hole for a bottle is very well made. Edges are rounded, so it'll be convenient to use it

On the inside there's 6 big magnets which will be holding the door by sticking to the batteries

And now is the most interesting part - how it's made inside

Here's the pre-installed 6ml SJMY bottle. It's standard, but nice bottle which is proven itself from a good side

So overall this bottle do it's job and there's no issues with it

It's made out of silicone, moderately soft, moderately hard. Overall this is a great bottle

I'll remind you, that initially you need to cut the tube to suit your needs, in my case it's like 5mm long

Manufacturer implemented 3 compartments inside - one compartment for the bottle and two for the batteries

As I previously said, contact group is made of copper. As you can see the contact has bulges to hold batteries in place

Copper plate itself is held by a plastic clip

Also, on the side it's held by one of the compartments

And small curve on top which will be making a connection

Upper contact group is look like so

As you can see, there's also bulges for holding batteries in place

There's a locking mechanism on the nut - to make it possible to carry this mod with you and prevent accidental firing

Also, this mod can be fully disassembled. We've seen similar system before. In the kit we have a key

This key will unscrew this nut if you turn it counter clockwise

By doing so, you can release the upper contacts to clean and maintain it after long period of usage

Also there's a correct polarity marks for gifted people. Both batteries go positive side down and negative side up. It's important

Be very careful and pay attention to this! Otherwise you can damage your batteries and things may go wrong

So insert your batteries correctly - both positive side down

So, friends, I think I showed and told you everything. Now it's time to try this device in action

Okay, everything is ready to get back to face-time and talk about this device and give it pros and cons

But there's one very important thing - after inserting of batteries bottom part of box mod has bent and gap between door and body appeared

And this will be one of a cons about which we'll talk in the face-time

Thanks for your attention in close up

Let's roll up top

Friends, on the top I have a Paradox RDA by Dragosh. It's a single coil RDA and it's look awesome here

But today we'll be talking about box mod

Let's discuss its pros and cons

And as always we begin with cons. First con will be standard for such box mods - no matter what you do - you will be have to take care of contact group

Sooner or later black dots(arcs) will appear on contacts

Also, the contact group itself is made of copper and it will oxidize(patina) and you will need to clean it to please your eyes in the first place

And second - so it didn't morally pressure on you and of course don't affect the performance of a box mod

So you will have to clean it anyway. Get prepared to it

Next and pretty vital con is visual and aesthetic - when you insert the batteries the box mod is slightly bending out

Because the material itself from which it's made of, is very light and flexible

Of course it'll be bending out when you install something rigid inside

And as a result we're getting small gap on the bottom because of this bending out

It's not look cool, but if you don't look closely you will not see it. But I'll give a con for that anyway

Next con I'll give for the fact, that it's very inconvenient to extract the batteries. You need to hit it on your hand to shake the batteries out

Not the most comfortable situation. It's lacking some kind of a ribbon, maybe

And last con I'll give to this box mod for the fact, that you can damage your battery wrap during inserting the batteries

It happened with me. Not the greatest moment of my life, so be ready for this

And it was last con

So, friends, now let's discuss pros. There's plenty of them

First pro to this box mod I'll give for awesome quality of manufacturing, for awesome quality of machining

There's no sharp edges, everything is smoothed out. Everything is made good, quality and cool. And it's a pro

Next pro I'll give to this box mod for ergonomics. Due to this rounded side box mod is lying great in the right hand

It'll be not that comfortable in the left hand, because this side will be resting against the palm

But when you hold it in the right hand you don't feel any discomfort, even though there's two 18650's

And even in my average palm this box mod is laying good, firm and comfortable. So a pro goes for ergonomics

Also, I'll give it a pro for a full disassembly option for further self-maintenance

It's convenient, it's good and it's important

Another pro I'll give for a Fire button locking feature. It's convenient during carrying the box mod, when you put it in your pocket or simply don't use it

Next pro to this box mod I'll give for universal landing for atomizers with diameter up to 24mm

Such atomizers will be highly relevant for this box mod, since this mod utilizes dual 18650 batteries

And due to this you can even use dual coil RDAs without any harm to battery life

It's good, it's versatile and I'm giving a pro for that

Of course, I'll give it a pro for battery life. After all, it's dual 18650's. If you're using a single coil RDA - maybe it'll be enough battery life for a whole day

Well, of course it depends on how you vape and how often you vape

And last pro I'll give for performance. Box mod is hitting hard

Voltage delivery is great, contact group does it job on all 100%. So a pro goes for performance

That was all regarding the pros, now let's talk about price

And before I start to discuss the price I would like to clarify the situation

And smoothen a bit these sharp angles regarding the price. High prices of European manufacturers

Friends, everything plain and simple - no manufacturer is obliged to adapt to our realities

For European manufacturer price above 100 euros is normal price. It's acceptable and logical price for mods that are not a mass production

Overall, on Stancia.PRO website this box mod costs 12500 rubles(190$ at the moment)

And this price is not for everyone, obviously, this isn't mass-price at all

And it'll be bought only by people who like the squonk box mods, who understand what they want from it and why they need it

So it's a manufacturers price tag and for Europe it's pretty relevant

Of course the link where you can buy this box mod will be in the description

And I want to say big thanks to Stancia.PRO vape shop for sending me this box mod for review

I wanna thank YOU for your attention

Don't forget - in this corner we have a voting going - do you like this device or no(да-yes/нет-no)

Leave a comment - what do you think about this box mod? Your opinion is interesting not only to me, but to people who watch this video as well

And people are trying to find someone else's opinion

And I'll be saying farewells at this point

I wish you a delicious vape and let the vaping come into your life and stays there for long

Take care of yourself and your mods

Plant Based What I Eat in a Day | Starting My Weight Loss Journey - Duration: 10:34.

good morning and welcome to the Kirrane Family Diaries I'm Caitlin if you're

new here I have a family of a husband Eddie and a son Eddie Og and a daughter

Noinin there at work and later today today is a mommy day and which really

consists of me running around like headless chicken but today I am starting

my weight loss journey so anyways for that I need to visit best

long and the short of it I am heavier than I need to be and it's

all fat it's not muscle so today I'm gonna do what I eat in a day but I'll

also show you a little bit about the meal prep um I've been doing for the

week just to kickstart my health journey no I'm not I'm not like a dieter what

I'm doing is cutting out to the fried foods wine I'm just trying to eat as

healthy as possible I I'm not uh so this morning I'm not actually having

breakfast and I'm not like a biscuit MS Gibbs on the breakfast to lose weight or

I'm not going to force myself to have breakfast to do that because to be

honest there's studies that dis kind improve when you should eat rice tea I

think personally that if I just go with my body I'm having feeling then

that'll work so this is what I'm starting off with a big glass of water

and I shoulda put a slice of lemon out squeeze of lemon oh yeah I'll go about

my day I've just done my work right and I wanted to get that out of the way it's

done I want to do for next I'm just gonna do one of these videos a week on

my weight loss so next thing I'm going to do like a week diary of what exercise

I'm doing for myself to no one for anyone hurt else who is interested so

that at the end of it I can look up see okay that works that didn't but yes part

of my preparation for starting my weight loss journey I did today I wrote out a

meal plan for the week I did Monday to Friday because I will probably towards

the end of the week look up some new recipes that I want to do outside like

trying out new stuff at the weekends and I'll go and do a chop up shop so I did

my meal tonight I slipped in the cupboards and seen one I have to use up

and then kind of based mainly of kind around that and then went to the shops

to do a weekly shop and then I knew that what I was given any for lunches or what

I was making for me for lunches and dinners and I knew exactly what I needed

so that I shouldn't have to go to the shop now until Friday maybe if I just

want to do a top-up shop an adenosine I need to get for our

weekend meals I might actually do my meal plan for the following event as

well so that I want to go one Friday did you just do a big massive shop I might

do that on some it worked kind of well I needed to run Sunday so we'll see but

yeah and I also then I bought in my shop I bought some organic carrots and

Beatrix and a whole thing of oranges so that I could make my favorite juice so I

do stuff yesterday I had a glass of that and Eddie has taken one to work I've got

one here and then the next one is fridge so tomorrow I'll probably in another

batch of juicing again or maybe I'll have some smoothies tomorrow see but

yeah so this is what I'm having it is like the ratio is like two oranges to

one carat of one beat but make sense but I could get a hold of it so going to few

me and then I'm gonna have another I am just making my lunch I'm making quite a

bit

I made it King quite a bit because I'm going to make enough for Eddie's lunch

for tomorrow as well I try and make any conscious firm as much as possible

because he just doesn't have time like he works so many hours and if I don't

make a lunch from he more often than not just by Sudanese art which is usually

not healthiest so I'm going to throw up some red pepper and onion with some

spices and then I'm gonna make a big salad and I'm gonna put that all in a

rack with but in the salad I'm gonna put about baby cosmetics I've got some baby

beetroot and so

color tomatoes cucumber I'm also going to braid a carrot and just that I'm

gonna put my hummus in a Lebanese bread

okay that rap was delicious I didn't film me eating it because it's very

messy a hand no one needs to see that but it was so young I also put some

kimchi in it I didn't mention that when I was um permit it was a last-minute

decision and it was a good one I made a second draft for Eddie for

lunch tomorrow and I just made one because quite substantial sum no no put

that in the fridge and I'm gonna make myself a coffee nap before I go along

with my work I protected the kids we are having vegetable stir-fry for dinner and

Eddie is gonna work on a bit base today so I'm just gonna have my dinner with

the kids and shoot the vlog here so this is what I'm miserable stir-fry with

noodles and crease off you know what savetti and if I have a snack this

evening it will probably just be like a rice cracker with some peanut butter and

actual peanut butter something like that something small

so next week's video on the weight loss will be what my fitness diary or my

perfect story my exercise Oh what I'm doing gracefully and get healthy yes so

if you like this video please give a thumbs up subscribe to allens haven't

already please give me some encouragement and comment

oh yeah thanks for watching I'm getting you noodles now bye

How to improvise over a STATIC diminished chord - Jazz Fusion guitar lesson - Scott Henderson Style - Duration: 15:03.

what's up everybody this is Luca and today we're gonna talk about how to

improvise over a static diminished chord and going from this to this

after one day of practice

what's up everybody this is Luca welcome to my youtube channel once again

if you didn't do already please subscribe to the channel and turn on the

notification bell today we're going to talk about how to

improvise over a static diminished chord so a good friend of mine his name is

Pawel Orlow is an amazing bass player I will put the link of his youtube channel

down in the description below he sent me this track and he wanted me to play some

guitar parts and a guitar solo the guitar solo happened to have a long

section over a C diminished chord and actually I was like okay I don't really

know anything about I mean I know I know like the C diminished arpeggio I think

everybody knows that and I know that the mainstay

but I didn't have any leaks any phrase anything so I thought well I don't know

anything but maybe I can make a video about my process of build some leaks and

some structure that I can actually use to perform a solo over a chord that I

never practiced before I started to messin around with this scale but

nothing was coming out from it like it really was sounding diminished and I

couldn't relate to anything you know that I actually knew so I started to

look at this problem from another approach I broke down the scale and then

I was trying to figure out if I could extract something from it that I knew

already or something similar and I got lucky because try to harmonize the scale

and I saw that okay on the first degree you have a C diminished arpeggio and I

already played that mean not really that great but on the second degree you can

have either a D minor 7 arpeggio or a d7 arpeggio

I was like okay that's interesting and then I since that the scale is a

symmetric scale I knew that everything I could build on the D I could use also on

the 4th and on the 6th grade of the scale and even if the 8th one because

the C diminished scale is a a log scale so wow that was great I know more stuff

related to D minor 7 or D 7 so I started to figure out on the guitar a shape that

for me is familiar and I found out this shape that for me is really common and

the shape is this one on D

so yeah this is like the d7 arpeggio and then I realized that I could play the

major third and the minor third at the same time so I can have these well like

the bottom two strings are kind of tricky so I was was focusing more on the

top four strings and this shape actually

was really useful and also I knew that I could use this shape also on F and on

a-flat

and on be

so I started to build some leaks inside of this box of this shape using the

mechanics that I had already and so I could relate something that he was out

completely of my comfort zone to something that I knew already after

spending some time with it I came up with ten leagues so I want to show you

guys some of these Nick's and the first one goes like this

so okay the first slick that I'm playing I'm using the shape of b7 mixolydian

okay so the basically he has seven the route the minor third the major third

the fifth and the seven so it's something that most of you guys know

already you know because some b7 it's really common so I used also downward

pickslanting mechanics to to play this lick

but for me it's easy I can reach like high speed with these mechanics and

without thinking too much about the picking okay so that was pretty cool the

second lick I want to talk to you about is this one and this lick for me is a

really interesting mechanic I'm playing the sake of the F mixolydian shape just

the top two strings okay and the cool thing that I noticed that I can switch

from this particular shape to actually the Dorian shape so from the major third

route minor 7 and fifth to the minor 3rd root major sixth and fifth so the nice

mechanic for me is having the ability to use a downward pickslanting here

okay that's certainly that I want to talk you about is this one this looks

pretty much the same as the first one but I included the the jazz way you know

to connect different patterns so the lick goes like this and yeah basically

from here then I can repeat it so I can do something like this

and this is cool you know you can create some longer lines if you want to and you

don't really have to be mental about it because it's always the same shape

you're just connecting them okay then I wanted to have something with more like

a bebop character so all right on this lake

okay so this leak yes it has more the diminished flavor this is a chromatic

this is not a plug into the diminished scale but this is something that a lot

of jazz players would do and so yeah why not

and for me like sounds more like a deeper phrase and I can imagine like

saxophone players plays this kind of stuff and yeah so since like the track

is jazz fusion style I thought that having some bebop leagues would help for

my vocabulary you know so yeah that's why I brought down this one the next

league is this one

and this leak actually I started to think about B minor pentatonic in the

lick that I usually play it's this one

so yeah again downward pickslanting it's Eric Johnson flavor and I knew that I

had to change some notes so instead of the fourth I would play the that's 5 + 5

v so goes like this and from here I can like the lick before and then connect to

the B shape so yeah I connected here again something that I know - something

that you already build you know and this is pretty much that this is the logic

behind it you can't create something out of the blue but you have to relate all

the time to something that you know already ok

then the last lick it's more complex lake is no longer lick and goes like

this

so this lick is technically less challenging but it has more interesting

rhythm I was inspired by a Chick Corea concert an early one where Scott

Anderson was playing and I remember the he was playing something like that so I

didn't go to check out the detail but I remembered kind of the shape and and the

rhythm was something like that I was I started to mess around with this

particular shape 7 and thinking about like I'm thinking about B 7 right now so

- Evan Road major 3rd and sharp 4 so it's kind of a Lydian sound so I started

to play around with

also here you know this is always that minor third and so I came up with this

lick this is the first part in the second party okay and also here I wanted

to create a polar rhythm it's not really a polyrhythm it's just like a phrase of

six notes or I don't know I have to count them but and then truck you know

trying to move it around the beat to create more interesting flow I can I

relate this particular thing to something that I knew already or

something that you know I was listening before so again I also mentioned these

kind of techniques in a previous video that I made like how to improvise the

five tips to improvise yeah this is wasn't actually improvisation it's lick

building but if you want to improvise for real you have to build some material

some nice things because otherwise as I mentioned before when I was trying just

to playing the C diminished scale I couldn't play anything that was

interesting the purpose of this video is to share with you the process sharing

the approach that I have when I have to start to improvise over a track or over

something that I don't really have anything ready for it it's kind of like

trying to get demystified the improvisation as a thing that you have

to know like everything out of the blue it's not like that you have to be

prepared for something then of course over the years you have a huge lickbag

and you will be used to improvise over so many different situation

so maybe you will you don't have the need to

create your own leaks again because maybe you will have plenty of that but I

do not at that level yet so I don't know this is the way I'm doing it and I hope

you guys like find it useful so if you want guys to check the final solo that

we record on the palace track please pick the link in the description down

below and subscribe to his channel so you know when our track will be ready so

guys thank you very much I hope you like this video if you have

any questions please write down in the comments below tell me if you do this

already or if you didn't understand some of the things that I've mention in the

video all the links are in the description if you want to check out my

gear and everything thank you very much guys and see you soon bye

Ubicoustics: Plug-and-Play Acoustic Activity Recognition - Duration: 4:40.

Today, microphones are found in many consumer electronics.

Despite sound being a rich signal, these devices don't utilize their microphones

to understand what is going on around them. A smart watch on your wrist has no

idea you are vacuuming, typing or brushing your teeth. We developed a

real-time sound-driven activity recognition system called Ubicoustics.

To tune our deep learning model, we needed lots of high-quality labelled

data for very specific activities. We found professional sound effect

libraries, employed in the entertainment industry, to be an ideal source of high

quality data. First, sound effects are atomic. A sound labeled as a telephone

ringing is tightly segmented and contains only that sound. Clips are also pure,

generally recorded in professional studios and devoid of artifacts like

background noise and echoes, as they are meant to be composited into richer sound

scenes. Third, sound effect libraries are diverse, containing hundreds of

variations of the same sound effect.

Sound itself also has three important properties. First sound data can be

easily scaled, both in amplitude and in time. Second, sound can be easily

transformed, projecting them into synthetic environments by altering their

reverb and decay. An effect can be made to sound like it is in a bathroom, or in

a living room. And finally, sounds are additive, allowing two or more effects to

be trivially blended together. We can take the same sound effect, and combine

it with a background track of a bustling market...

office... or peaceful forest. These properties mean we can take a single

sound effect, transmute it into hundreds of realistic variations, and then project

those into hundreds of synthetic environments. This volume of data is

perfect for training and tuning deep learning models, while retaining the

benefits of a highly curated and well labeled corpus. We show that our system

works across different contexts and devices.

Overall would believe our work demonstrates a promising approach for

robust context and activity recognition, which could enable many new applications.

For example smartwatches could monitor a greater array of health indicators.

Office computers could estimate workers' interruptability. IOT sensors

could track equipment utilization and help schedule maintenance. Smart phones

could detect tool and appliance use, and automatically display relevant

information or launch complimentary applications.

It is also possible for users to tell devices what sounds to listen for. This

could be used, for example, by smart speakers to proactively assist users

following a recipe. Alexa: chop the banana into the quarter inch portions. Alexa: now that

you're done shopping place the ingredients into the blender and liquefy.

Alexa: finally add hot chocolate and enjoy!

User: Alexa, can you notify me when the microwave is done? Alexa: I'll text you when the microwave

is done. Please see our paper for more details. Thanks for watching! Alexa: the

microwave is ready...
