Waching daily Jun 28 2017

Om Shanti !

Today's Murli Date Is 29th June 2017

( Sweet Sweet Baapdada showers divine knowledge on us and makes us pure. Also Baapdada spiritually intoxicates us with Knowledge )

Essence: Sweet children, always have the intoxication that you are being showered with the rain of knowledge by the Father, the Ocean of Knowledge,

and that you will become pure by this and return to your great home.

Question: On what basis will the faith of you children continue to become even stronger?

Answer: As chaos increases in the world and your divine tree continues to grow,

the more your hearts will move away from the old world and the stronger your faith will continue to become.

Service will happen at a very fast pace.

If you continue to pay attention to dharna, the enthusiasm will increase in your intellects and you will stay in limitless happiness.

Essence for dharna: 1. In order to become free from the suffering of karma, stay in remembrance of the one Father.

Don't waste time by remembering any bodily being. Keep the line of your intellect very clear.

2. Eat very pure food. As is the food, so the mind.

Therefore, do not eat food prepared by impure people. You must make your intellect clean.

Blessing: May you know the deep philosophy of karma and experience alokik pleasure in Brahmin life.

( by understanding deep philosophy of karma, we will perform elevated deeds, resulting in alokik pleasure of Brahmin life )

Brahmin life is a life of pleasure

but staying in pleasure does not mean that you can do whatever you want and remain intoxicated.

The pleasure of temporary happiness and pleasure of temporary relationships and connections

are different from the pleasure of a constant stage of happiness.

"I say whatever I want, I do whatever I want; I am always in pleasure".

Do not please yourself with temporary pleasure in this way.

Stay permanently spiritual and alokik pleasure: this is the real Brahmin life.

Together with this pleasure, also be aware of the deep philosophy of karma.

Slogan: Instead of being caught up in the ego of "I" (Ahem) and doubts (veham), have mercy (reham) for everyone.

To the sweetest, beloved, long-lost and now-found children, love, remembrance and good morning from the Mother, the Father, BapDada.

The spiritual Father says namaste to the spiritual children.

We spiritual children convey to spiritual Baapdada, our love our remembrance, our good morning & our namaste namaste

Om Shanti !

What Would It Take To Build A Teleportation Machine? - Duration: 5:02.

Hey there, and welcome to Play Noggin.

I'm Julian, your brain's Player Two.

I, like a lot of you, have always been fascinated by the idea of exploring another world.

The problem right now is the length of time it takes to travel to a distant planet or

solar system.

And, I guess, the fact that the technology hasn't been developed yet.

But that's never stopped me from dreaming.

Ideally, I'd like to visit another world of my own free will, and not be yanked from

the earth in an instant, along with a chunk of a national park.

That's the inciting incident of Obduction, the latest game from Myst creators Cyan Worlds.

See, it's a play on words.

"Obduction" is a geologic process in which the edge of a tectonic plate consisting of

oceanic crust is thrust over the edge of an adjacent plate consisting of continental crust.

"Abduction" is what happened to you, and the aliens responsible used a form of technology

that has been a mainstay of science fiction for years, technology that's actually existed

in real theoretical science for longer than you might think: teleportation.

Teleportation involves scanning something at a subatomic level and sending the data

gathered from the scan to some distant location, where a perfect copy is reconstructed.

When I say "copy," I mean copy.

Since 1993, when quantum teleportation was first deemed a theoretical possibility, we've

understood that the act of "scanning" an object fully destroys that object, to the

point that the copy created is the only thing that remains.

So, great, not only are aliens ripping me away from my home, but they're also obliterating

my original body?

Could they at least give my new bod super speed or something?

It's not too much to ask.

Now, maybe the thought of having your body as you know it obliterated in the name of

a convenient commute squicks you out a bit.

Me too.

But the question of "How many of my subatomic particles need to be originals for me to be

who I am" isn't the point here.

In 1998, researchers successfully sent a single photon approximately one meter along a coaxial

cable.

And just as everyone had theorized, the moment the photon appeared at its destination, the

original ceased to exist.

It didn't travel.

It was copied, destroyed, and cloned.

In order for quantum teleportation to be possible, scientists had to find their way around something

called the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle.

Now, I looked it up, and surprisingly it has nothing to do with blue crystal meth.

I worry I might watch too much TV.

Anyway, it's the idea that you can never know both the location and the momentum of

a particle.

The more we nail down data on one of these things, say, a photon's location, the less

we end up knowing about the other, its momentum.

And vice-versa.

They succeeded by using a phenomenon called entanglement.

That's the principle which allows two particles to stay connected to each other, even over

great distances, so that what happens to one directly affects the other.

So, one photon in a lab could be spun, and its entangled photon hundreds of miles away

would also start to spin.

Even Albert Einstein referred to this phenomenon as "spooky action at a distance," which

is genius-scientist speak for "Whoa, stop the ride, I want to get off."

To teleport a single photon, they actually needed three: one, the original to be teleported;

two, a photon used to transport the information from the first; and three, a photon entangled

with Photon 2, upon which the information was written.

See, if the researchers had tried to get up close and personal with Photon 1 to read its

information, they would have altered it, thus making it impossible to teleport in its actual

state.

That's because subatomic particles exist simultaneously in all states until they are

observed.

To interact with the particle directly would require them to observe it.

Observing a particle locks it into one state, which wouldn't be representative of the

actual particle.

With Photon 2 acting as a sort of buffer, they can copy the info onto Photon 3 over

a distance, thus successfully teleporting Photon 1.

Is your head spinning?

My head's spinning.

Now, unless we want our heads to spin straight off, we've got a lot of work to do before

teleporting humans is feasible.

Did you know there are a ton of atoms in the human body?

Okay, yeah, you knew that of course, but do you know how many?

There are around seven billion billion billion of them, because when we start talking about

numbers that big, even scientists sound like kindergarteners.

In Obduction, we can buy that aliens have this incredibly powerful and complicated technology,

because they're aliens, and aliens can be as scientifically advanced as the story demands.

In the real world, keeping track of seven billion billion billion atoms, copying them,

moving them over vast distances…

It's just not feasible.

Some even argue that quantum teleportation and the sort you see in Obduction or, even

more popularly, in Star Trek, shouldn't even be considered the same thing.

In the latter, you're deconstructing and transporting matter over distances and reassembling

it perfectly; in the former, you're merely copying the "state" of one quantum particle

to another.

Maybe we'll get there someday.

In the meantime, I'll continue fantasizing about teleporting to a strange new world.

Or at least dematerializing out of my car when I'm stuck in traffic.

Thanks for watching.

Vipshan Sakya - No Restraints - Duration: 6:10.

It's getting crowded up here

But I don't see anyone around me

With my eyes open

Still it's good to see you everyday

It's nice to talk to you everyday

I'm glad I find you in a haze

To know there's no one in our way

But I wish just that you were real

Oh and I just wish that I could feel

When you're around

If there's more love

Then there's more pain

If that's why I imagine you

To keep me sane

If all these feelings

All those before me

If they're not real

I must be lucky

Oh and I just wish that it's all true

Oh and I wish I could come up to you

If the sky's never ending

Then so is time we'll always carry on

I drew your picture

And put it on my memory wall

I don't fear of loosing you

You'll always be safe in my memories

On my mind

Lost myself in all of you

Found myself in all of you

No restraints when I'm with you

Divine intervention

I'm all you

And I wish that you were real

Oh and I wish that I could feel

And I wish that it's all true

Oh and I wish I could come up to you

When you're around

How to Breathe Yourself Out of Fear and Anxiety in 8 Minutes or - Duration: 7:14.

How to Breathe Yourself Out of Fear and Anxiety in 8 Minutes or Less

When youre stressed out you hold your breath.

You likely dont mean to, but stress causes a physiological demand on your body which

results in a cascade of responses changing your brain, your hormones, and even how you

breathe.

Oddly though, just changing your breath, you can slow the release of cortisol, epinephrine

and norepinephrine so that you start feeling more like a cuddly lamb and less like a rhino

about to charge a bullseye.

The way we breathe can determine if we add to our current level of stress, or turn it

around, literally changing our physiology, and reducing a state of hyper-vigilance resulting

from the ancient fight-or-flight response.

If we dont learn how to mitigate this stress, it can contribute to auto-immune diseases,

diabetes, depression, substance abuse, and cardiovascular disease and make us, well,

not so fun to be around.

Conversely, deep breathing, and other pranayama exercises practiced for centuries throughout

India, have proven to slow aging, reduce stress, and can even induce a mild, euphoric high.

Whether youve heard about the importance of breathing from practicing meditation and

yoga, or you just notice that you feel better when you take a deep breath, it should be

evident that the way you fill your lungs, holds some deep secrets for changing your

physiological state.

Funny then that the 17,000-30,000 breaths we take each day are usually taken for granted.

We hardly notice how we go about breathing, and most of us do it all wrong due to a conditioned

response to stress.

As Children We Knew How to Breathe

When we were small, we breathed like we should we took deep, expansive breaths.

We screamed with joy at the top of our lungs (with a fully supported, diaphragmatic breath)

that no one had to teach us.

Over time, our breath became contracted and small, as we learned to make ourselves small

in response to stress, and anxiety.

We literally started to hunch over, closing off the pathway of the lungs and trachea,

and began to unconsciously contract our muscles so that even a full breath couldnt

fill a tiny carnival balloon.

Slow Oxygen Deprivation

Most adults now take what is called a stress breath a constricted breath that only

takes place in the upper chest.

If you ask them to take a deep breath, they will likely do so by lifting their shoulders

into their ears, and hardly expanding their abdomens so that the diaphragm can drop and

the lungs can fill completely.

This style of breathing amounts to slow-torture, or low grade oxygen deprivation.

Our blood literally becomes choked with toxins, and lacks enough oxygenation to fuel healthy

decisions, joy, or elevated emotional states.

One-Nostril Breathing

If you do a little test, you will also notice that you likely are only breathing through

one nostril often the right or left, dependent upon your dominant personality traits.

If you only breathe through one nostril, you also arent using your whole brain.

This means you are cheating yourself when it comes to problem solving, meditation, and

even just having the energy to get up every morning.

For instance, a study in 1988 showed that breathing through your right nostril significantly

increases blood glucose levels, while breathing through your left nostril has the opposite

effect.

It is speculated from this that abnormal nasal cycles, such as breathing through your right

nostril for many years without a switch, may be one contributing factor in certain cases

of diabetes.

Other studies have shown that there is a marked increase in peace, equanimity, and lower levels

of cortisol, and reduces toxins, just by making sure you alternate your breath from one nostril

to the other.

If you want to practice this method of breathing, called Nadhi Shodhana

Pranayama to Control the Emotions

Bhastrika paranayama, another breathing practice can help to control yo-yo emotions.

Most of us are slaves to our emotions they control all our actions, which become reactions,

instead of a mindful choices in the moment.

All the subtle channels throughout the body (more than 700) become cleansed when we practice

Bhastrika, allowing our chakras to function as they should, and not become clogged with

old, worn out emotional responses.

This breathing exercise can also revive you when you feel sluggish, replacing the need

for coffee, even.

It is named after the old bellows used to pump oxygen into a fire, and translates

from the Sanskrit to mean Bellows Breath. This is an energizing breath that you will

want to practice before a workout, when you wake up in the morning, or during a mid-day

slump, not when you are about to retire at night.

Baba Ramdev explains how to practice Bhastrika properly:

Turn Your Stress Around in Eight Minutes or Less

It doesnt matter if you are practicing energizing breathing or deep, calming breathing

in a slow and smooth manner, you will increase oxygen to your brain, fight the bodys tendency

to dump stress hormones in your blood when you are feeling overwhelmed, and counteract

the fight-or-flight response.

Just a few minutes of mindful breathing, even when you are sitting in your car in traffic,

in a business meeting or just after you rise in the morning can set you up for an entirely

different experience of your day.

Every breath we take, every step we make can be filled with peace, joy, and serenity.

DON'T WASTE YOUR LIFE (Les Brown, Casey Neistat, Brendon Burchard, Steve Harvey) - Duration: 17:01.

[Music]

there are two rules that I always adhere

to and that is to work hard and be brave

and I think the essence of hard work is

one that's pretty straightforward is

that you'll never be the best-looking

you'll never be the tallest most

talented most capable you'll never have

the most money there will always be

someone who's better at whatever you're

doing them with what you then you are

but you can always be the

hardest-working person in the room and I

think the hardest-working person will

always win stop comparing yourself to

others

so the first thing you do is stop

focusing on other people instead focus

on being the best version of you that

you can then you'll recognize that you

deserve to sit at the big table with

everybody else

after you've become the best that you

can be now once you've accepted that you

have as much right to success and much

right to succeed as anybody else the

next step is learning how to talk the

talk you have to get fluent in the

language of success so you speak it with

ease

surround yourself with people who've

accomplished their dreams and immerse

yourself in the culture of achievement

and before you know it you're going to

be speaking the life of your dreams into

existence and like I said before we each

have a guilt but too many people miss

out because they refuse to find the

least on their guilt you keep looking

for it outside of you stop think with

yourself what is it that you do the

absolute best with the least amount of

effort that she'll give

but if you are constantly looking

outside of yourself and you don't latch

on to your guilt you will never find

your perfect if you want to succeed you

must commit to your whole gift and

embrace it the first step is getting

completely and rudely honest enough to

say I am tired of myself when you say

I'm sick and tired of being sick and

tired

that's the facilitator of change that's

when you're ready to say these words no

more excuses no more excuses I believe

there's a huge difference in the way

that successful people and unsuccessful

people think and I believe that success

itself is not some big mystery that

people haven't figured out before even

though when we are struggling and we're

fighting and we're just trying to make

it through day by day and get better and

better and better it can feel like this

arduous unknowable process but success

has been figured out and we all know

it's a mindset game I mean most of

success is just about how we use our

psychology I remember when I was going

to start my business and I really wanted

to be good at it you know I was trying

to become an author and a speaker and do

these types of videos and do some online

training for people on the topics of

motivation and marketing and you know

some all these people are saying well

Brendan you know you may or may not be

successful of that you're you know blah

and I thought weird thing it's not like

there's a trait of successful people you

look across history and successful

people it's not they're not from a given

background they don't come from a

specific economic stature they're not in

a position where you know they're their

one demographic or another demonsaw

louver I mean we've got thousands of

collective years of history people

succeed some people do some people don't

and I think it more comes down to how do

we manage our mind and how do we manage

our days and I think that there's a

difference between successful people and

unsuccessful people in the way they

particularly think about approaching

something new you know I think

unsuccessful people when they have a big

dream and they start thinking about

what's going to be required to

accomplish that dream they get very

limiting in their beliefs about

themselves

as possible and specifically they say

three types of things you know the first

thing they often say is well you know I

don't know how to do that so they stop

they say you know I I don't have those

things so they stop or they say I don't

know you know I'm not like those people

I'm not like that and so they stopped

but successful people have a different

way they have the same thing everybody

dreams you dream I dream successful

people dream people just starting out

everybody dreams everyone has the vision

everyone if they can just take five

minutes today and think about their

lives we could all come up with ways to

improve our lives and reach another

level of success joy happiness

achievement contribution fulfillment

soul you know we can all elevate but the

challenge is that some successful people

they keep stopping when they think of

what they currently know have or are but

successful people say well I want to do

that but I don't know how to do that but

instead of stopping they say well then

my job is to go learn that they take

their current limitation and they put it

on their agenda as a job to do as a

thing to figure out a thing to make

happen instead of saying well I don't

have that they say well then my job is

to go build that or I'm not like that

then they say well then my job is to go

become more of that become that person

who could accomplish those things you

know when I was starting to do online

marketing for the first time and and I

don't know if you know how much of my

story you know but when I started doing

online marketing I was literally

bankrupt and I went from place of

bankruptcy to the point where I've

really committed to becoming successful

at it and in 18 months I made four point

eight million dollars four point six

collected and he was a huge leap right

in in indifference from bankrupt to

multi-millionaire in the span of 18

months but what made that breakthrough

was it that I had new opportunity it

wasn't that I had new technologies it

was like wow there's the internet now

those things were already there it went

I went from this level of thinking to

this level of danger I used to say well

I I don't know how to build a web page

so I said agenda figure out how to build

a web page and I spent hours and hours

and hours at night on weekends from my

job figuring out how to do that and I

said well I don't have one of those

lists you know I don't have any

subscribers nobody knows who I am so

it's a job go build a list go get

subscribers go add value and content now

the marketplace and they'll come I mean

just keep putting stuff out there and I

also didn't say oh my gosh well I have

that dream I can't have that because I'm

not like that because I was in a public

speaker I didn't know how to do video I

wasn't like well I'm not one of those

video people well I'm not a public

speaker so I said you know what I have

to go learn that art I have to go become

a better speaker a better communicator I

have to go become more confident I have

to go become a person capable of doing

these things I have to change myself to

get there I can't wait for circumstances

to change so I can have my dream then

our dreams will never happen we have to

get to the point of maturity in our

lives where we say okay two things are

going to change my life something new is

going to come into my life and make me

lucky and blessed and maybe I can't

count on that forever and maybe now

instead I have to consciously design my

life and say okay now if I want to

change if I want my dream something new

has to come from me I'm going to become

a better person I'm going to become a

person who is more optimistic who is

more confident who is more driven not

because I am that now but because we can

grow that you can become the type of

person who needs to you need to be to

achieve your ideal life you can start

today living from your highest ideals

your highest sense of self your

strongest sense of self you don't need

permission you don't need a guy like me

to look at the video camera say you have

now permission but it's been waiting for

it you have permission it's like at some

point in your life you just say okay I

have permission to become my best self

and by becoming your best self you start

to achieve your best things you start to

contribute better things you start to

become a better human being you can do

that now today so next time you're

thinking about a big dream don't think

about the things that well I don't know

how to do that and stop think I don't

know how so set it up on your calendar

to go

learn those things I don't have that

then set it up step by step to go build

that I'm not like that then set it up

step by step to go develop those skill

sets and those competencies so you can

become that and ultimately you can

achieve that dream it's there it's

waiting for you don't stop birds of a

feather flock together you run around

with losers

you will end up a loser unconsciously

unconsciously you will pick up their

ways you'll pick up their habits you'll

pick up most importantly their attitude

about life if you around cynical

negative people all the time you will

become cynical and negative so you got

to watch yourself many of us are living

out the lives of other people living out

their conclusions living out of their

consciousness the other thing is that

you begin to look at looking at your

life and looking at what it is that you

want to achieve another crucial thing

that you must do is align yourself with

powerful people align yourself with

people that can encourage you people

that can empower you people that you can

learn from people that you can grow from

that's very important if you have people

around you that can contribute to your

growth when I want to become a speaker I

join the National Speakers Association I

wanted to be around the doctor Norman

Vincent appeals the zig Zigler the

Dwayne dyers because I want to be around

people that were doing what I wanted to

do I want to learn from this and you

want to do that too you want to align

yourself with people who think like you

people who dream like you people who one

water like people that are stretching

and searching and seeking from a higher

ground in life as opposed to the

majority of people somebody said always

tried to get on top in life because it's

the bottom that's overcrowded and so you

don't want to be on the bottom so it's

easy to be on the bottom it doesn't

taking the effort to be a loser doesn't

take any motivation any Drive in order

to stay down there on a low level but it

calls on everything in you ladies and

gentlemen you have to harness your will

to say I'm going to challenge myself

sometimes I have to pull myself out of

insuk come on

I think I knew I should do I don't do

things that shouldn't do I do I found

that the biggest enemy you have to deal

with is yourself as an old African

proverb that says if there's no enemy

within the enemy outside can do us no

harm so think about that so if you begin

to look toward making this your decade

as you begin to look to what making your

life different you begin to look at

yourself you got to redefine yourself

who are you right now

and who must you become in order to

create what you want what has to change

about you what is it that you're doing

right now that would be a liability for

you as you begin to look toward the

future and take inventory of yourself

what is it about you right now that

you've got to leave this behind because

this no longer fits looking at where you

want to go and the kind of person that

you must become the kind of standards

that you have for you what is it that

you must do differently repeat after me

please if you want to keep on getting

what you're getting keep on doing what

you're doing see that doesn't take an

Einstein for them all right

that makes sense unless you change your

pattern unless you change the way you're

thinking unless you change your behavior

you're going to continue to produce the

results of your life see all of us the

winners but some of us are producing

results that we don't want and so all

you have to look at your game plan look

at your strategy however that you have

been be what is it that you've been

doing to produce this so you have a

director you are the producer you're

writing the script you're the star of

your life and as you begin to look at

your life you can decide whether or not

it's a smash and whether or not it's a

flop that's in your hands look at your

life look at where you want to go don't

worry about your circumstances don't

worry about your age have a print it was

up in age over 70 and she wanted to

build a multi-million dollar complex the

name is dr. Johnny Coleman lenders and

Baker say you can't do that you're too

old she ignored them that building now

stands ladies and gentlemen a multi

million dollars structure but there are

a lot of people who would have listened

to that a lot of people that would not

have even gotten to that point they were

to talk themselves out of even going

down to the bank to ask for it because

they've already said no to themselves

see is time now if you want to make this

your decade you've got to start saying

yes to your life you've got to start

saying yes to your dreams yes to your

unfolding future yes to your potential

as opposed to saying no see 87% of our

self talk is negative so you've got to

make a conscious deliberate determined

effort to say yes to your dreams why not

why not me don't spend time like most

people going through life complaining

don't try and get on talk shows to tell

everybody how life is done you wrong

here's what's happening in the audience

80% don't care and 50% gladdy to you

all right so so when you know that

you're go around cook growls you know

what they did to me who cares get away

from me buddy come back

[Applause]

[Music]

had a friend of mine that said

that's all that matters okay lights

knock it out what do you want to joke

you know what they did to me come on who

wants to hear that racket use that

energy to get up from then move on and

get on with your life you got to learn

to let the past go so you can grow many

people never act on their dreams because

they allow their past experiences to

determine what their possibilities are

whatever you've done in the past that's

not a reflection of your possibility

that's just a reflection of your

consciousness that's just a reflection

of your development and your growth the

future is unfolding for you right now

the future is unlimited for you right

now no one knows where you can go no one

knows what your path what you're capable

of what's possible for you you don't

even know that I had no idea ladies and

gentlemen no one could have convinced me

that I was able to do this I never

forget I was speaking and Detroit in a

high school friend of mine saw me

afterwards that he was backstage he said

I can't believe it's the same person and

I thought for a moment and I said it's

not the person you know he told you have

liver in law we have the power to change

our personal history changing the

direction of our lives changing our

thoughts changing where we want to go

exploring new horizons so you begin to

look at this decade and affirming that

this is your decade as you said goals

that will make you stretch that will

bring out the best in you as you begin

to remove the negative toxic people from

your life as you decide to take some

chances in life and that's one of the

things that's very important this car

that if you're not willing to risk you

cannot grow and if you cannot grow you

cannot become your best and if you

cannot become your best you cannot be

happy and if you can't be happy and what

else is there

I'll never forget when I reach my first

major goal of buying my mother lat home

I never forget what it was like and

you're going to have this experience

when you reach some major goal when I

drove up to the house and I got out and

I gave mama the key I said mama this is

for you I'll never forget the look on

her face she said she thought oh my god

no one could have convinced me when I

got the job that this would happen

she said thank you she said and you

called me so many damn problem

[Applause]

Feelings lost again, Settling for friends with you

Doesn't seem to end Unsure as to cut you off, move on and cut

the cloth, 'Cus now.

You're shrugging at the shoulders again Harder to speak the truth than pretend

That this is calm So easily done

Don't Risk being wrong Let the silence speak for itself as we end

Cus I can't go on like this Breaking up over the little things

And if I don't get over it At least I tried

(Out of love)

'Cus now Feelings growing older again

Acting with the heart not the head But this is calm.

So easily done Don't Risk being wrong

Let the silence speak for itself as we end.

Cus I can't go on like this Breaking up over the little things

And if I don't get over it At least I tried

Authoritarians vs Libertarians (Explained by Star Wars) - Duration: 3:57.

So Monday was my fourty first birthday, and a helium inflated Stormtrooper showed up at

my door, and I couldn't pass up using him as both a prop and a metaphor for this week's

Direct Message.

One of the ideas which keeps popping up in the discussions we're having on The Rubin

Report is the old political labels are becoming more and more meaningless by the day.

The terms "Progressive" and "liberal" have virtually nothing to do with each other anymore,

and if you're a "classical liberal", you're certainly not a "leftist".

"Conservative" and "Republican" don't have much to do with each other today, as Trump,

a "populist", who doesn't focus on social issues such as gay marriage and legalizing

marijuana, is now the leader of the GOP.

For these reasons, as well as the real time crumbling of our mainstream media, the battle

for freedom now is between the authoritarians and the libertarians.

That is, the battle over the soul of America, and the West in general, is now about people

who want the government to have more control of your life vs people who want the government

to have less control over your life.

I think by now you know that I fall solidly in the camp of people who want the government

to have less control over your life.

And thats brings me to the trusty storm trooper behind me.

In the original 1977 Star Wars, the storm troopers were the foot soldiers for the Galactic

Republic: a massive, evil, military regime who wanted to control every star system in

the galaxy.

This would qualify as authoritarian.

The empire and the stormtroopers were not keepers of the peace as the Emperor had promised,

but authoritarian rulers who wanted to endlessly expand their power, hence their building of

the Death Star to blow up any planet which didn't fall in line with their desires.

Blowing up a planet is a pretty good way to get people to do what you want.

Now dare I talk about the prequels, but trust me, it works for this metaphor.

2002's Star Wars Episode II - Attack of the Clones takes place about 20 years BEFORE the

original Star Wars.

In this film, the storm troopers, at that time known as the clone troopers, were the

good guys.

They allied with the Jedi in defense of the democratic Republic.

Eventually, Chancellor Palpatine, who had consolidated power himself and secretly ordered

the creation of the clone army, took control of the storm troopers and the Senate, used

Democracy against itself, and he went from a Chancellor to the Emperor.

In 2015's The Force Awakens, which takes place about 20 years AFTER the original trilogy,

the Storm Troopers are again the bad guys, this time in the form of the soliders for

the authoritarian First Order, which has risen from the ashes of the Galactic Republic.

One of the heroes of the story, Finn, is a storm trooper gone rogue, who suddenly realizes

he as an individual can chart his own destiny.

He puts his collectivist past as a stormtrooper behind him, and becomes one of the heroes

of the story.

The point of all of this, is that it isn't this stormtrooper you should fear, it's the

power which commands him.

Any ideology can be used as a force for good or for evil, and that's why we should be reigning

in authoritarianism of any kind, even when it's YOUR sort of authoritarianism in charge.

This whole metaphor took place in a galaxy far, far away, but the lessons it presents

are ones we can use right here on Earth.

Joining me to discuss authoritarianism v. libertarianism is author, professor and podcaster

Thaddeus Russell.

Our friends at Learn Liberty have sent him our way and to loosely quote Obi Wan Kenobi,

"This is the episode you've been looking for."
