Regiunile istorice ale României
Romania's historical regions
Hi, this is Mihnea.
Welcome to Romanian Hub, the Ultimate Romanian Language Learning Portal.
A comment on my first video in the Learn Romanian History series correctly pointed out
that to truly master a foreign language, also means immersion in "the history, culture, and
traditions of the people who speak it."
This made me think about my long-term mission here at Romanian Hub and the necessity of
expanding my Romanian language lessons in such a way that they can incorporate all the
areas needed to help my viewers become proficient in Romanian,
both from a linguistic and a cultural point of view.
So I'm starting a new series entitled Learn Romanian Geography in which I will focus on
the names of various places in Romania, both current and historical.
And, I believe there's no better way to start this series than with a lesson on
Romania's historical regions.
The information I will be introducing in this video corresponds to the geography of
România Mare, or Greater Romania,
during Regatul României, or Kingdom of Romania,
when Romania reached its greatest territorial extent.
The map used is an administrative map of Romania in 1930.
Hai să începem.
Let's start.
Regiunile istorice ale României sunt situate în sud-estul Europei.
Romania's historical regions are located in Southeastern Europe.
The 10 historical regions of this time are:
- Banat
- Crișana
- Maramureș
- Transilvania
- Bucovina
- Basarabia
- Moldova
- Oltenia
- Muntenia
- Dobrogea
Now, let's look at five considerations about these regions:
1.
Sometimes Banat, Crișana, and Maramureș are encompassed in the "wider" Transylvania,
which includes the region itself called Transilvania.
2.
Bucovina, was historically part of the region Moldova but is now divided between Romania
and Ukraine as, in 1940, the nordern half of Bucovina was annexed by the Soviet Union.
3.
Only the western half of Moldova is now part of Romania while the eastern side,
mentioned here as Basarabia, belongs to the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine.
4.
Together, Oltenia (known as Lesser Wallachia) and Muntenia (known as Greater Wallachia)
form Wallachia, or Țara Românească, a historical and geographical region in the south of Romania.
5.
Dobrogea is a historical region that has been divided between Romania
and Bulgaria since the 19th century.
Now, let's go over the names of the 10 historical regions once again:
- Banat
- Crișana
- Maramureș
- Transilvania
- Bucovina
- Basarabia
- Moldova
- Oltenia
- Muntenia, and
- Dobrogea
I hope this video lesson familiarized you with the names of Romania's historical regions.
Regiunile istorice ale României.
I hope that my viewers in Moldova, Ukraine, and Russia won't get too wound up over this
map and the historical facts presented here.
