last week we installed the soil cement subfloor on the upper section and finished
smoothing out the walls with sheetrock mud on Shae's earthbag bedroom

before we
start work on the ceiling, we need to plan for the lights

we're starting to run our wires now for the electrical

every year we take the winter off from milking and dry
the goats up
and so now with the new babies, we'll be able to get goat's milk

it's amazing how when we have goats milk in the house how much the
grocery bill drops
saving us money as well as bringing health into the family
his eyes are so beautiful

getting ready to put the can lights in
it's matter of finding out where at in this bay
it's gonna shine down on the floor
so I imagine we are going to have a light here and light here
I'm trying to
pre-think the building a little bit, figure out where the furniture is gonna go
it's going to shine down from here which is good because we have the stairs coming down
so that'll help to light the stairs
and then that way when we put our lights in
that everything will just work together

so Garen, this is his motorcycle and that is our flooring so he has clearly mixed
the two very nicely
mom laid out all the woods so we can see them more
clearly now
this is the one we want to use here
I got some paints out
a lot of
different maroons and blues
see if we could make some purple ourself and we
will just see how it goes
I should have been more strategic about that

it actually is a gradient
in itself a little bit because it's got the light here and then it goes to this
really bright yellow and then the darker down and the smaller
it's cool

Bryson is starting on the ceiling down there

we used laminate flooring in my room
the first boards of goodness
we're going to use laminate
flooring for Shae's room
the first boards of boadish goodness
and the insulation
the
way we do this is really just putting the floor in but reverse on the ceiling
and it's kind of weird but it's basically the same thing as you would
put in a little laminate flooring

you just pop in the boards
except the only thing different is we use a nail gun to nail it up because it
won't stay up there
and we also put insulation up there for insulation
I'll get started on it this weekend hopefully we'll finish it next week
I got the
opportunity to go to Alaska and see a friend
Joey's up there working the Chena Hot
Springs Resort
the land up there was just really beautiful
you could really
tell that it was cold all the time there
wasn't just snowy for a week
and then it you know got into the 50s again
it's like minus 26 when I got
there
surprisingly, the daylight wasn't too bad
it was just kind of like a
little bit more than a dusk
the snow, because it was so cold up there and it
never really hit temperatures where the trees could even heat up and they start
really drooping and hanging
they have these really cool military vehicles
track vehicles - that they would bring people up to the top of this mountain
that way you could get a really good view of the Northern Lights up there so
I was able to see those
turns out I got pretty lucky to see them
at the top of
Charley Dome, which is where the vehicles took you up to to see the lights
they had a couple yurts up there that way you could warm up while you're
waiting for the lights to come out
they looked really solid and then
there's snow just built up all the way around except for the door
they cut that out so you could get in and out
I actually didn't even think reindeer
existed
I found out they were real
our car got a crack in the windshield
all the way across and needed replacement so Shell and I drove down to
get a new windshield and while we were there, we're looking at how they
were doing the window placement, the types of glues, the types of things that
they were using and of course that gave us the same ideas that we're gonna use
today to put up the skylight
those suction cups look like Spiderman
I'm gonna be building the curve for the skylight
that's gonna be put up there
eight pieces - sixteen pieces actually to cut
here for a curb that's about three and a half inches tall

cut them one at a time, I think is more acurate
[music]
I'll be using this flashing here to go around the edges to keep the water out
and give ourselves a little bit more waterproofing up there
and this is easy
I need eight of these
the flashing here is gonna go down in eight pieces all the way around
[music]
then once we have it all down, we'll pin down the corners and that'll give us
our flashing to keep water out
[music]
gotta make three rings with it
so make it last
[music]
then I have a double stack of two by sixes that'll go here for three inches
fit for a curb
[music]
we mentioned this before about this glass but this glass I
picked up at a garage sale and the guy had like 50 of them that he had sold
over the course of time and he said that the ones that had broken had stayed
together - all in one piece - so we feel pretty confident that it's a nice piece of
glass for up above
and the glass will set right on top of the curve
and it'll be
glued together
get the hammer and bang on a little bit
