How To Change Your Mindset and Reach Your Fitness Goals - Duration: 4:06.

Hey guys and welcome to another edition of Body Masters Coaching

so what am I going to talk about today?

there's a fitness company out there and they have

one of the most powerful phrases when it comes exercise, diet, achieving your goals

and pretty much everything that sets you in a position where you want to get

anything done okay and that companies Nike or Nike doesn't matter which way you say it

the company with the big swoosh and their phrases just do it

just get it done

today we we live in a society where we overanalyze everything

and the problem with over analysis is that it takes you down the

path of negativity way too easily you know and you know oh if I'm going to the

gym should I do my legs or should I do my arms or should I do cardio or should

I do this if I'm gonna follow a diet should I go low carb or should I go high

fat or should I call high protein or I'm gonna join this club which club do I

join do I joined Weight Watchers do either you join and I can't think

slimming world

guys it doesn't matter just do it alright whichever way you

know as while you're you're a busy analyzing of which one is the best one

to do you're actually moving backwards alright you're not even stationary

you're actually heading in the worst direction just get on with it and do it

alright and worry about whether it's working or not while you're actually

doing it okay it doesn't matter just you know and I was talking to a client the

other day about business coaching you know and you know she was thinking with

what if they say this or what if that doesn't matter just pick up the phone it

doesn't matter what you do when you get to the gym

just get to the gym all right do a workout you'll feel better for it okay

it really doesn't matter what you do when you get there in the initial stages

I mean of course it matters what you do when you get there but before you

actually get to the gym all right there's an old phrase the hardest thing

about going to the gym is going to the gym okay just get on with it and do your

workout just get to the gym get on your diet and you know whatever that's going

to be and start easy start simple you know if the idea of going to gym and

doing an hour's bodycam/combat work out you know terrifies you and go and do

ten minutes all right if the idea of going low-carb for the rest of your life

I mean you're not going to be a low carb for the rest of your life that's the the

humorous thing about diets and you know if you're gonna go low-carb then start

by cutting out a few basic carbohydrates don't over complicate it don't

overanalyze it just do it and make it easy because the easier it is the more

like you're going to stick to it you know and then you'll feel good and the

more you feel good the more you want to do it and then all of a sudden you're in

a habit and it's not a stress to you know just avoid a few potatoes and bit

of bread here it's not a stress to go to the gym and do 20-30 minutes you know

just do what you can okay and I make an agreement with yourself

that you're gonna make it easy for it to do to do those things because while

you're making it too complicated and watch making it too hard you're not

getting the results you want

so make it easy

and just do it

LGR - The Need For Speed Special Edition - Duration: 14:18.

Road & Track Presents: The Need For Speed Special Edition, or just NFSSE because who

has time to say words.

As much as I adore and appreciate the original 3DO game from 1994, NFSSE from 1996 for the

PC holds an irreplaceably special spot in my mind.

It was not only the first retail PC game I bought completely on my own at eleven years

old, but it was my first CD-ROM game period.

And I didn't even have a computer that could play it yet, I was just that excited.

At the time all I had was this Packard Bell Legend 486, with a 66MHz 486 CPU, 4 megs of

RAM, a couple floppy drives, and no sound beyond the internal PC speaker.

But dang it, I knew one day we would have to get a new PC with a CD-ROM drive.

And one of the biggest reasons I wanted one was for games like The Need For Speed SE,

which I lusted after every time I went to the local Software Etc store.

So I just jumped the gun and bought it when this cheaper CD-ROM Classics re-release showed

up in spring of 1997.

I'd stare at the back of the box over and over, imagining what it'd be like to play.

I'd stare at the disc emblazoned with my name in Sharpie ink and wonder how cool it'd

be to plop it into a CD drive.

Finally, for Christmas of 1997, this brand new computer showed up under the tree and

augh, the excitement!

Say hello to the Acer Aspire model 1280, with a 233MHz AMD-K6, 32 megs of RAM, and most

exciting to me: a 24x CD-ROM drive.

And naturally, the first thing I installed that Christmas afternoon?

The Need For Speed Special Edition.

I'd had it for months just sitting there in my closet, waiting to be installed.

And dude, the first time seeing this sound and video test brought tears to my eyes...

*tear-inducing sounds play*

But beyond regurgitating some happy, nostalgic memories, I want to explore NFSSE in a way

I haven't done before on LGR.

While I covered the original game and its various spin-offs years ago, I don't feel

that I provided SE the spotlight it deserves.

And let's be honest, the video quality left a bit to be desired...

So I'm ready to give a proper look at The Need For Speed Special Edition for DOS and

Windows PCs, developed by the Pioneer Productions team within EA Canada in 1996.

There are six things we're gonna touch on that I find important for evaluating NFS games,

and really racing games in general: vehicles, locations, visuals, sound, driving, and community.

What these entail can change with each game, but overall I think these categories bring

together what I feel makes each title in the series stand out -- for better or worse.

Let's start with the vehicles, which in the case of NFSSE is a

goldmine of mid-90s greatness.

"Eight purebred exotics," states the back of the box, with each of them only being available

in one color: the black Lamborghini Diablo VT, the polo green Corvette ZR-1, the dark teal Porsche

911 Carrera, Rosso Corsa Ferrari 512TR, silver Acura NSX, yellow Mazda RX-7, red Toyota Supra

Turbo, and the entire reason I bought this: the blue Dodge Viper RT/10.

I've always been a bit of a car nut, but as a kid my whole automotive world revolved

around the Viper.

And The Need For Speed was the only game at the time that had a Viper in there officially,

so it was a must-have.

Plus, being a tie-in to Road & Track magazine meant they included interactive showcases

for the Viper and every other car.

It wasn't the first game to do this, with 1992's Car & Driver being another magazine-based

PC game that proudly displayed detailed car stats, but NFSSE was

certainly the more technically impressive example.

They went all out with the multimedia aspect, including voiced descriptions of each car's

specs and history, as well as their own radical music videos.

*radical music videos play*

*still playing, still radical*

And finally, if you happened to win in Tournament Mode you unlocked the fictional Warrior PTO

E/2, a 240 MPH bonus car that was new to these later releases of The Need For Speed.

It's jet-powered and purple and absurd and I love it.

But what are the cars without somewhere to drive them, and thankfully NFSSE includes

a pleasant variety.

Starting off the locales are City, Coastal, and Alpine: three open-road tracks divided

up into three segments each.

*engine revving and tires screeching*

Each one provides a point-to-point race and the best two out of three

wins the overall course.

These were always my favorite tracks in the game, mainly because they included traffic

and police vehicles to spice things up.

Granted, the police chases were nothing too involved, it's as simple as "if they get

past you, you're forced to slow down."

Still, getting ticketed, arrested, and seeing that FMV sequence

was more than exciting enough at the time.

Cop: "You're just cryin' out for some rehabilitation, aren't you?"

*rehabilitation noises commence alongside rock music*

Oh yeah, and that Planet of the Apes reference at the end of Coastal 3, that excited me too

since I'd only just discovered those movies back then.

But while I played those three segments over and over, the bulk of the game's tracks

are closed race courses: Rusty Springs, Autumn Valley, and Vertigo Ridge make a return from

the non-SE DOS release, and Burnt Sienna and Transtropolis are new to the special edition.

You could also change the time of day settings before playing, although it doesn't do much

beyond apply a filter on top of the gameplay that doesn't look very appealing in my opinion,

especially if you race in the cockpit view where it really clashes.

And yeah, I'm not a huge fan of circuit racing, in this or any other racer where you

also have the option to race through traffic.

I don't know, it's just that boyhood fantasy of being able to drive an exotic car on the

wrong side of the road and skirt danger that appeals to me.

At least the circuits all look distinct here, with environments and layouts that stand out

more than the modern day tradition of recreating true-to-life raceways

that all kinda blend together in my mind.

They're also charmingly mid-90s, with a mix of 2D and 3D elements that really tickle

my fancy at the moment.

Heck, you can't even turn around and drive the other way due to the limitations of the

engine, it'll just show an overhead view of the front of your car.

And then once again, if you beat the tournament mode you unlock a bonus track: Lost Vegas.

This was absolutely a favorite of mine, especially paired with the Warrior car.

Not only does it look nothing like the other tracks in the game, but its design is absolutely

absurd with dangerously high embankments and jumps that have no place in reality.

But enough about racetracks, how about that soundtrack?

*NFSSE rock soundtrack plays*

While the original 3DO game lacked music while racing, NFSSE more than made up for it by

including both a techno and a rock soundtrack you could choose between in the options menu.

These were composed by Jeff van Dyck and Saki Kaskas, who were in a band called The Heavy

Lounge at the time, which apparently mixed prog rock with jazz, funk, and metal.

And it shows in the soundtrack here, with a unique blend of styles going on with each

song, all of which only improve the racing.

The rock tracks especially stand out to me, which were all existing songs that

Kaskas recorded years earlier for a demo tape he described as "pretty cheesy stuff."

Well hey bring it on, I love me some cheese...

*gloriously cheesy metal soundtrack plays*

However, I'm truly sad to say that Mr. Kaskas passed away

in late 2016 at just 45 years old.

It bums me out, the guy was prolific and talented and I always enjoyed his work, not just here

but on the next four NFS titles and dozens of other games.

It wasn't just music either, he also did a bunch of sound design later on too.

Not on SE mind you, even though the sound design is on-point here.

Each car has its own separate sounds for engine, horn, and even the gear-shifting.

That kind of attention to detail was not the norm at the time.

*cave ambience plays, followed by car sounds and waterfall noises*

And on top of that, I always found the overall sound selection to be quite enjoyable, from

the peaceful spray of waterfalls to the crunchy mangling of sheet metal when you crashed.

*sheet metal twisting and car crashing noises*

The driving also pleased me to no end, specifically due to the physics and handling models implemented.

Granted, it wasn't as grounded in reality as the 3DO original, or even the non-special

edition of NFS for DOS.

But I didn't know that back then and it still had a leg up on any other racer I'd

experienced to that point.

Whether played from an external camera or inside with a view of the dashboard, each

car felt like its own beast to be tamed.

Although I always found it odd that they removed the company and

model branding from the steering wheels.

Maybe there's a technical reason for that but it just looked weird.

Still, the fact that these photographed interiors looks so believable and multiple gauges moved

made it feel awesomely realistic.

Well, realistic to an 11-year-old who'd never driven before could imagine, at least.

And even though I was driving using an analog flight stick back then, it truly felt like

a simulation rather than the more arcade-y fare I was used to at the time.

That is what made The Need For Speed SE stand out to me: cars felt heavy, yet nimble, precise,

yet on the verge of spinning out if you apply too much power.

Each one had their own characteristics you could feel by driving, like the Diablo's

all-wheel-drive traction and the 911's weighty read end sliding around corners.

And of course, there were the crashes, ahh the crashes.

Half the time my friends and I would just play the game to see who could wreck the most

spectacularly, ramming traffic head-on and flipping end over end.

Extra points to whoever could take advantage of the boxy car physics

and land a crash balanced on the front end.

We'd especially like to target specific cars and pretend they were people in real

life we didn't like, haha.

Like, "oh man, that looks like so-and-so's car, WRECK 'EM!"

In the days before GTA, this was our adolescent catharsis.

We also loved trying to knock down the scenery.

Not just road signs, but pretty much everything on the side of the road could be knocked over

if you hit it, like these trees holding up the checkpoint banners.

NFSSE also had a robust replay editor and highlight reel, which was extra handy for

reviewing and saving our best crashes to prove they actually happened how they did.

And all that was just screwing around in Head To Head Mode.

When you wanted more there were Single Race, Time Trial,

and Tournament Modes to choose from.

Time Trial was boring to me since it was just racing against the clock, Single Race was

like Head To Head but with a full pack of opponents, and Tournament Mode was where it

presented groups of cars together to race through every track in the game with the goal

of accumulating the most points.

I think I did this a grand total of once before going back to Head To Head Mode and crashing

into everything again, hehe.

But whatever, it was still fun to play against friends in these extra modes, even if it was

just taking turns to see who could win the most races in a row.

There was also an 8-player multiplayer mode over modem or LAN added to Special Edition,

but nobody I knew had the hardware or the know-how to set that up so we never even tried.

There was also the increased difficulty mode, No Mercy, available by pressing the "End"

key, and unlockable mirrored and rally-style versions of each track.

The rally tracks in particular were quite fun, coating every bit of tarmac in gravel,

and making it extra fun to challenge my friends to powerslide

around turns at higher speeds than ever.

Speaking of friends, that brings me to the final point of analysis: community.

And what I mean by this is the following that built up around it, mostly online, in the

form of websites and modding.

NFSSE never really built up the kind of community that later games in the series did, especially

in terms of mods and shared content.

But there were certainly a fair number of sites dedicated to providing cheats and help

with modifying the game.

I remember reading through these file format specifications with awe, wondering what could

be done to bend the game to my will.

And while I never saw any custom cars made for it, you could at least modify the track

layouts with TRACK-ED, or TRACKED.

This charmingly cumbersome DOS program mostly let you add insane jumps and turns to the

existing tracks, making for some game-breaking

silliness that was fun to play with in short bursts.

But that was about as deep as it got, and by the time there were some decent editing

tools and mods popping up, people were already moving onto the next game in the series.

Although personally my friends and I continued to play it off and on for years.

And that about sums up The Need For Speed SE experience for me.

It's still pretty darned fun to play to this day due to the handling, art direction,

music, and the fact that it's so straightforward in its approach to racing.

No grand story or campaign, no upgrades, you can't even change the color of your cars.

It's just a way to toss some realistically-modeled exotics around a track, with a few concessions

to the physics to allow for some devious fun screwing things up on top of that.

The Need For Speed was a landmark racing game that spawned a gigantic franchise that's

somehow still going to this day, and this Special Edition will always be special to

me regardless of it being called special or not.

It may leave a thing or two to be desired in terms of physics and odd technical quirks

getting in the way, but compared to the next entry,

well, I think it did okay for itself.

And what I mean by that will have to wait 'till next time.

And do let me know what you think of this video because I'd like to cover the next

several games in the series in a similar fashion.

But in the meantime, I've got plenty more LGR already made

and more coming every Monday and Friday.

And as always, thank you very much for watching!

Emotions - Part 1 - Enjoying Everyday Life - Duration: 28:33.

ANNOUNCER: THIS PROGRAM HAS BEEN MADE POSSIBLE

BY THE FRIENDS AND PARTNERS OF JOYCE MEYER MINISTRIES.

JOYCE: YOU KNOW, THE GREAT THING ABOUT GOD

IS NO MATTER HOW MANY MISTAKES YOU'VE MADE IN THE PAST

YOU DON'T HAVE TO KEEP MAKING THEM.

AND THE MORE WE CHOOSE THE RIGHT THING,

THE MORE WE GET OUT OF THE MESSES THAT WE'RE IN.

[MUSIC]

JOYCE: EVERYBODY HAS EMOTIONS.

WELL, AT LEAST, MOST PEOPLE DO.

SOME PEOPLE YOU THINK COULD USE HAVING A FEW MORE BUT--

[AUDIENCE LAUGHING]

JOYCE: WE'RE GONNA START WITH THE PEOPLE WHO JUST

HAVE AN ABUNDANCE OF THEM AND THEY TEND TO BE LED

AND GUIDED BY THEM, RATHER THAN BEING GUIDED

BY THE SPIRIT.

SO OUR EMOTIONS DO NOT TELL US THE TRUTH.

THEY TELL US HOW WE FEEL.

YOUR MIND DOESN'T NECESSARILY TELL YOU THE TRUTH

UNLESS IT'S BEEN TOTALLY RENEWED BY THE WORD OF GOD.

YOUR MIND AND MY MIND TELLS US WHAT WE THINK.

AND SO PROBABLY MORE THAN ANYTHING ELSE,

PEOPLE TELL ME AND THEY TELL YOU AND WHEN YOU'RE TALKING

TO EACH OTHER YOU TALK ABOUT AND I TALK ABOUT WHAT WE WANT,

WHAT WE THINK, AND HOW WE FEEL.

I WANT, I THINK, I FEEL.

WELL, INTERESTINGLY ENOUGH, ALL OF THAT,

UNLESS IT'S CLOSELY GUIDED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT,

IS PART OF WHAT THE BIBLE CALLS "THE FLESH."

WHAT I THINK DOESN'T NECESSARILY TELL ME WHAT GOD THINKS

OR WHAT HIS WORD SAYS.

WHAT I FEEL DOESN'T NECESSARILY TELL ME WHAT GOD

WOULD HAVE ME DO IN A SITUATION, AND WHAT I WANT MAY NOT BE

WHAT GOD WANTS.

NOW, WE IMPROVE IN THOSE AREAS THE MORE WE STUDY THE WORD

AND THE MORE WE LEARN TO WALK ACCORDING TO THE WORD,

BUT I CAN TELL YOU EVEN AFTER BEING IN CHURCH

MANY, MANY YEARS, BACK IN THE '70S WHEN I GOT INTO

WHAT I CALL A MORE SERIOUS RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD,

AND I LOVE TO TALK ABOUT THAT BECAUSE, TO BE HONEST,

YOU CAN BE A CHRISTIAN AND YOU CAN GO TO CHURCH

A COUPLE OF TIMES A WEEK AND YOU MIGHT READ YOUR BIBLE

A LITTLE BIT AND STILL NOT BE REAL SERIOUS

IN YOUR WALK WITH GOD.

WHEN PEOPLE GET SERIOUS ABOUT THEIR RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD,

THEY'RE NOT JUST INTERESTED IN WHAT GOD CAN DO FOR THEM,

BUT THEY'RE INTERESTED IN WHAT THEY CAN DO FOR GOD.

THEY WANT TO BE THE KIND OF PERSON

THAT GOD CAN USE, THAT GOD IS WORKING THROUGH THEM

TO HELP OTHER PEOPLE.

YOU KNOW, I LOVE DOING THINGS FOR MY KIDS

AND I WILL ALWAYS DO THINGS FOR MY KIDS BUT I'LL TELL YOU,

I REACHED A POINT WHERE I JUST THOUGHT,

"I'D LIKE YOU TO DO SOMETHING FOR ME."

[AUDIENCE LAUGHING]

JOYCE: AND YOU'LL GET TO--

NOW, ALL MY KIDS ARE GREAT AND THEY DO A LOT OF STUFF

FOR US BUT IT'S JUST THE TRUTH.

YOU DON'T--YOU KNOW, THAT BABY STAGE OF CHRISTIANITY

IS ALL ABOUT ME, ME, ME, ME, ME.

WHAT CAN YOU DO FOR ME?

BUT MATURITY BEGINS TO SEE THAT IT HAS A RESPONSIBILITY

AND IT BEGINS TO WANT TO KNOW WHAT IT CAN DO THEN FOR THE ONE

WHO'S HELPED THEM SO MUCH.

SO THE BIBLE SAYS THAT WE HAVE EMOTIONS,

WE HAVE THOUGHTS, WE HAVE A WILL,

AND WHAT GOD'S DESIRE IS FOR US IS THAT WE USE OUR WILL

TO CHOOSE HIS WILL.

HE'S NOT GONNA MAKE US DO WHAT'S RIGHT.

HE'S GIVEN US FREE CHOICE BECAUSE HE DOESN'T WANT ROBOTS

WHO HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO SERVE HIM.

HE WANTS US TO COME TO THE POINT WHERE WE CAN EVEN SAY,

"YOU KNOW, GOD, THIS IS WHAT I WANT

BUT IF IT'S NOT WHAT YOU WANT, THEN PLEASE

DON'T GIVE IT TO ME."

HAS ANYBODY STARTED PRAYING LIKE THAT YET?

OKAY, THAT'S THE WISE WAY TO PRAY.

AND WE ALSO GROW TO THE POINT WHERE,

EVEN THOUGH WE HAVE OUR OWN THOUGHTS

AND WE HAVE OUR OWN FEELINGS, WE KNOW THAT WE CAN'T BE LED

AND GUIDED BY THAT IF THEY DON'T AGREE

WITH THE WORD OF GOD.

SO LET ME JUST SAY THAT YOU'RE NEVER

GONNA NOT HAVE FEELINGS.

YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE FEELINGS.

YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE EMOTIONS.

AND SOMETIMES THEY'RE GOOD AND SOMETIMES THEY'RE NOT.

SOMETIMES THEY'RE THERE WHEN YOU NEED THEM.

THEY--OR THEY'RE THERE WHEN YOU NEED 'EM;

SOMETIMES THEY'RE THERE WHEN YOU'RE--THEY'RE THERE

WHEN YOU WANT 'EM; SOMETIMES THEY'RE THERE

WHEN YOU DON'T WANT 'EM.

YOU MAY FEEL LIKE DOING SOMETHING

WHEN YOU GO TO BED AT NIGHT.

GET UP THE NEXT MORNING AND NOT FEEL LIKE DOING IT ANYMORE.

AND SO WE HAVE TO LEARN THAT WE HAVE FEELINGS

BUT WE CANNOT LET THEM HAVE US.

THERE'S A DIFFERENCE.

WE HAVE TO LEARN HOW TO MANAGE OUR EMOTIONS.

AND BECAUSE EMOTIONS ARE SO PREVALENT,

I READ AND STUDY IN THAT AREA A FAIR AMOUNT,

AND I RECENTLY HAVE BEEN READING A BOOK BY A GENTLEMAN

WHO'S PROBABLY GONE HOME TO BE WITH THE LORD

100 YEARS AGO BUT I LOVE THE FACT

THAT THE WORD NEVER GETS OLD.

MATTER OF FACT, A LOT OF THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS

I'VE LEARNED, I'VE LEARNED FROM PEOPLE THAT LEFT THE PLANET

YEARS AND YEARS AND YEARS AGO.

SO THAT'S ONE OF THE REASONS WHY I WANTED TO WRITE

SO MANY BOOKS AND LEAVE THAT LEGACY

AND THAT HERITAGE TO PEOPLE THAT WILL COME AFTER ME

BECAUSE I KNOW THAT THE THINGS THAT I'M TEACHING NOW

WILL BE JUST AS VALUABLE 100 YEARS FROM NOW

AS THEY ARE RIGHT NOW.

AND SO--

[AUDIENCE APPLAUDING]

JOYCE: BUT ONE OF THE THINGS THAT THIS MAN SAID

AND IT'S NOT ANYTHING THAT I DON'T KNOW

BUT IT JUST WAS SOMETHING THAT I NEEDED TO BE REMINDED OF,

AND MAYBE YOU NEED TO BE REMINDED

OF THIS TOO TODAY.

HE SAID, "WATCH YOUR EMOTIONS AND NOTICE HOW EASILY

THEY ARE AFFECTED BY SO MANY DIFFERENT THINGS.

IF YOU DON'T SLEEP WELL, YOU'RE LIKELY TO BE MORE

EMOTIONAL THE NEXT DAY.

IF YOU DON'T FEEL WELL, YOU'RE LIKELY TO BE

MORE EMOTIONAL THE NEXT DAY.

IF THE WEATHER DOESN'T SUIT YOU--

[AUDIENCE LAUGHING]

JOYCE: MY POINT IS, IS THAT THINGS THAT PEOPLE DO

OR DON'T DO CAN AFFECT US EMOTIONALLY.

HOW OTHER PEOPLE BEHAVE CAN AFFECT US EMOTIONALLY.

WHAT KIND OF APPRECIATION PEOPLE GIVE YOU

OR DON'T GIVE YOU CAN AFFECT US EMOTIONALLY.

SO BECAUSE OUR FEELINGS SEEM TO BE SO AFFECTED

BY SO MANY DIFFERENT THINGS, I THINK IT WOULD BE JUST

A GOOD LITTLE STUDY CLASS TO TAKE A WEEK AND JUST MAYBE

PAY A LITTLE BIT OF ATTENTION TO WHEN THEY'RE UP

AND WHEN THEY'RE DOWN AND WHAT SEEMS

TO BE CAUSING BOTH.

SOME PEOPLE ARE MORE EMOTIONAL THAN OTHERS.

SOME HAVE, YOU KNOW, MORE CONTROL

OVER THEIR EMOTIONS THAN OTHERS.

THEY SAY THAT WOMEN ARE A LOT MORE EMOTIONAL THAN MEN.

YOU KNOW, THAT'S TRUE IN MINE AND DAVE'S CASE.

IT'S NOT ALWAYS TRUE IN EVERY SITUATION.

I MEAN, SOMETIMES I WONDER IF DAVE'S GOT ANY EMOTIONS.

I MEAN, HE'S LIKE--

[AUDIENCE LAUGHING]

JOYCE: I MEAN, YEAH, HOW MANY OF YOU

ARE MARRIED TO SOMEBODY THAT JUST NOTHING BOTHERS THEM?

GOOD, ABOUT 20 PEOPLE.

THERE'S NOT TOO MANY PEOPLE IN THE WORLD LIKE THAT.

[AUDIENCE LAUGHING]

JOYCE: SO WHAT GOD WANTS US TO DO IS LEARN TO LIVE DEEPER.

EVERYBODY SAY "DEEPER."

BECAUSE THE FLESH, WHAT I THINK, WHAT I WANT, AND WHAT I FEEL,

IS MORE PART OF MY EXTERIOR LIFE

AND IT DOESN'T REALLY OR DOESN'T HAVE TO HAVE

THAT MUCH TO DO WITH MY DEEPER LIFE

WHICH IS MY LIFE IN CHRIST.

BUT IT TAKES US QUITE A WHILE TO LEARN THAT.

HOW MANY OF YOU, IF YOU'VE BEEN WALKING WITH GOD,

NOW LET'S SAY, 10 YEARS, YOU ARE LESS AFFECTED

BY YOUR CIRCUMSTANCES NOW THAN YOU WERE 10 YEARS AGO?

OKAY, SEE, AND THE LONGER YOU WALK WITH GOD, THE MORE

THAT'S GOING TO BE THE CASE.

YOU KNOW WHY?

BECAUSE ALTHOUGH YOU ARE A SPIRIT,

YOU HAVE A FLESH WHICH IS YOUR SOUL AND YOUR BODY,

THE BIBLE TELLS US THAT IF WE WALK

BY THE SPIRIT WE WILL NOT FULFILL THE LUSTS OF THE FLESH.

IT DOESN'T SAY THAT THE FLESH WILL STOP SCREAMING AT YOU.

BUT IT SAYS THE MORE THAT WE WALK IN THE SPIRIT,

GALATIANS 5:16, THE LESS WE WILL FOLLOW

OR SUBMIT TO THE LUSTS OF OUR FLESH.

YOUR FLESH IS ALWAYS GONNA BE SCREAMING AT YOU,

ALWAYS GONNA BE SCREAMING AT ME, BUT WE CAN MAKE DECISIONS

THAT WE'RE GONNA DO WHAT GOD WANTS US TO DO.

NOW, DEEPER.

THE BIBLE SAYS TO BE ROOTED DEEP IN GOD'S LOVE.

DO YOU KNOW, YOU CAN COME TO A PLACE

WHERE YOU ARE SO CONVINCED THAT GOD LOVES YOU

THAT NOTHING CAN EVER TAKE THAT AWAY FROM YOU.

NOTHING CAN TAKE THAT AWAY FROM YOU.

[AUDIENCE APPLAUDING]

JOYCE: BUT HOW MANY YEARS OF MY LIFE

AND PERHAPS IN YOURS TOO, AND THANKFULLY

I DON'T DO THIS ANYMORE, BUT HOW MANY YEARS OF MY LIFE

DID EVERY TIME I HAVE TROUBLE THAT WAS LONG-LASTING

I WOULD SAY, "WELL, GOD, DON'T YOU LOVE ME?

DON'T YOU LOVE ME?"

YOU KNOW, WE THINK THAT IF GOD LOVES US

THEN EVERYTHING SHOULD TURN UP ROSES ALL THE TIME.

BUT THE BIBLE ACTUALLY SAYS THAT WHEN GOD CHASTISES US

IT'S A SIGN OF HIS LOVE.

IN REVELATIONS IT SAYS WE SHOULD BE ENTHUSIASTIC

AND FULL OF ZEAL WHEN GOD CORRECTS US AND

SHOWS US WHAT'S WRONG WITH US.

I DON'T KNOW ABOUT YOU BUT I'VE THOUGHT SOMETIMES,

"GOD, YOU COULD JUST LOVE ME A LITTLE BIT LESS TODAY.

I REALLY--"

[AUDIENCE LAUGHING]

JOYCE: "I DON'T WANNA KNOW ANYTHING ELSE

THAT'S WRONG WITH ME RIGHT NOW.

JUST BE--FEEL FREE TO GO LOVE SOMEBODY ELSE," AMEN?

[AUDIENCE LAUGHING]

JOYCE: BUT WHEN YOU'RE ROOTED DEEP IN THAT LOVE THEN YOU KNOW

THAT YOU KNOW THAT YOU KNOW AND NOTHING CAN EVER TAKE THAT

AWAY FROM YOU.

THE BIBLE SAYS THAT WE'RE TO BE ROOTED AND GROUNDED IN CHRIST.

AND THAT MEANS THAT YOU GROW TO A POINT

WHERE YOU--YOUR IDENTITY IS SO ESTABLISHED

IN WHO YOU ARE IN CHRIST THAT ALTHOUGH

YOU DON'T WANNA BE REJECTED, IF A PERSON REJECTS YOU,

YOU CAN STILL BE OKAY BECAUSE YOU KNOW

GOD NEVER REJECTS YOU.

IF YOU GET TURNED DOWN FOR A POSITION AT WORK

THAT YOU WANTED OR A PROMOTION YOU WANTED,

YOU DON'T HAVE TO FEEL INSECURE AND FEEL LIKE YOU'RE NO GOOD

BECAUSE YOU CAN GO BACK TO YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD

AND SAY, "IF THAT WAS WHAT GOD HAD FOR ME

THEN IT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED, AND IF IT DIDN'T HAPPEN

THEN GOD'S GOT ANOTHER PLAN FOR ME,

AND MY WORTH AND VALUE IS NOT TIED UP IN THE TITLE

I HAVE AT MY COMPANY."

[AUDIENCE APPLAUDING]

JOYCE: I THINK ONE OF THE BEST THINGS

THAT HAPPENS AS A RESULT OF OUR RELATIONSHIP

WITH GOD IS THAT WE CAN BECOME SECURE IN WHO WE ARE IN HIM.

DO YOU KNOW WHAT A NIGHTMARE IT IS

WHEN YOU'RE INSECURE AND EVERYTHING ABOUT

HOW YOU FEEL ABOUT YOURSELF IS AFFECTED

BY HOW OTHER PEOPLE TREAT YOU AND WHAT YOUR CIRCUMSTANCES ARE?

THE BIBLE SAYS: "DEEP CALLETH UNTO DEEP."

AND I WANNA JUST ASK YOU A COUPLE OF QUESTIONS.

HOW MANY OF YOU MAYBE YOU'RE AT A POINT IN YOUR HOME

WHERE YOU NEED TO DO SOME DEEP CLEANING?

[AUDIENCE LAUGHING]

JOYCE: OKAY, WE'RE GONNA TALK ABOUT THAT FOR A MINUTE.

[AUDIENCE LAUGHING]

JOYCE: AND WE'RE GONNA GET A LITTLE ANALOGY.

SO ARE YOU THE KIND OF PERSON THAT JUST,

WHEN SOMEBODY IS GONNA COME OVER YOU JUST QUICKLY STRAIGHTEN UP?

[AUDIENCE LAUGHING]

JOYCE: OH, THIS IS A GOOD EXAMPLE.

[AUDIENCE LAUGHING]

JOYCE: "OH, WE GOT COMPANY COMING, C'MON."

ALL THE KIDS HAVE TO GET IN GEAR.

WE'RE THROWING EVERYTHING IN CLOSETS.

WE'RE SHOVING EVERYTHING IN DRAWERS.

WE'RE PICKING EVERYTHING UP.

THE DISHES ARE THROWN IN THE DISHWASHER.

[AUDIENCE LAUGHING]

JOYCE: AND THE COMPANY COMES IN AND WE'RE BUSY,

LIKE, IMPRESSING THEM WITH OUR LOVELY HOUSE.

[AUDIENCE LAUGHING]

JOYCE: BUT WE KNOW WHAT'S HIDDEN BEHIND THE DRAWERS

AND THE DOORS.

OKAY, WELL, YOU KNOW WHAT?

THE SAME THING CAN BE TRUE IN OUR LIVES.

WHEN SOMEBODY COMES AROUND THAT WE KNOW

AND WE WANNA IMPRESS, ARE WE QUICK TO STRAIGHTEN UP?

OR HAVE WE INVITED GOD TO COME INTO OUR LIFE

AND DO A LOT OF DEEP CLEANING ON THE INSIDE OF US?

HM, YOU KNOW, WELL, LET'S JUST SAY THIS.

IF YOU WOULD BEHAVE AT HOME ALL THE TIME

THE WAY YOU WOULD BEHAVE IF I SHOWED UP

AT YOUR FRONT DOOR--

[AUDIENCE LAUGHING]

JOYCE: C'MON, WAKE UP.

I'M TIRED TOO.

[AUDIENCE LAUGHING]

[AUDIENCE APPLAUDING]

JOYCE: SEE, OUR BIG EXCUSE IS, "WELL, I JUST CAN'T HELP IT.

I JUST CAN'T HELP IT.

I JUST LOSE MY TEMPER.

I'M JUST AN EMOTIONAL PERSON.

I JUST CAN'T HELP IT."

[AUDIENCE LAUGHING]

JOYCE: THAT'S ONE EXCUSE THAT WE NEED TO GET RID OF.

THE "I CAN'T HELP IT" EXCUSE.

"IT'S JUST HARD. IT'S JUST SO HARD."

WELL, YEAH, IT'S HARD FOR EVERYBODY.

WE ALL JUST THINK BEING OUT OF CONTROL IS GREAT

BUT THAT'S NOT THE WAY GOD WANTS US TO BE.

SO YOU KNOW, I DID A LOT OF SCREAMING

AND YELLING AT MY KIDS IN MY FRUSTRATED YEARS.

I MEAN, I WASN'T ABUSIVE TO THEM BUT I JUST WAS--I WAS UPSET

A LOT, YOU KNOW, ALL THE TIME.

[GRUMBLING]

I KNOW NONE OF YOU WERE LIKE THAT BUT I WAS.

I ALWAYS SAID I GOT ALONG WITH EVERYBODY

'TIL SOMEBODY CAME HOME AND THEN IT WAS A DIFFERENT STORY.

[AUDIENCE LAUGHING]

JOYCE: AND HONESTLY, I HAD THIS HAPPEN TO ME ONE TIME

AND IT TAUGHT ME A GREAT LESSON AND I SHARE IT OFTEN

IN MY TEACHINGS WHEN I'M TEACHING

ALONG THESE LINES.

ONE DAY I WAS UPSET WITH MY KIDS AND THEY'D MADE A MESS

AND, YOU KNOW, BACK THEN I WOULD SAY, "GO PLAY,"

AND THEN THEY'D GET THEIR TOYS OUT AND I'D SAY,

"CLEAN THAT MESS UP."

[AUDIENCE LAUGHING]

JOYCE: SO PEOPLE THAT ARE UNHAPPY INSIDE,

THEY'RE KIND OF LED BY THEIR EMOTIONS

AND THEY BLAME A LOT OF THEIR UNHAPPINESS

ON OTHER PEOPLE.

LIKE, "I'M GONNA BE HAPPY NOW IF YOU GO PLAY.

WELL, NOW I'M GONNA BE HAPPY IF YOU CLEAN YOUR MESS UP."

AND SO I WAS HAVING ONE OF MY UPSET SPELLS

AND THE DOORBELL RANG AND I PEEKED OUT

AND IT WAS MY PASTOR.

[AUDIENCE LAUGHING]

JOYCE: I TELL YOU WHAT, I GOT CONTROL OF MYSELF SO FAST.

[AUDIENCE LAUGHING]

[AUDIENCE APPLAUDING]

JOYCE: I MEAN, I STILL REMEMBER,

"OH, PASTOR!

WOW, IT'S SO NICE OF YOU TO STOP BY.

OH, THE KIDS? OH, YEAH, THEY'RE PLAYING.

THEY'RE--"

[AUDIENCE LAUGHING]

JOYCE: "THE LITTLE DARLINGS, THEY'RE JUST

IN THEIR ROOM PLAYING."

[AUDIENCE LAUGHING]

JOYCE: YOU KNOW WHAT?

IT'S AMAZING WHEN THERE'S SOMEBODY AROUND

THAT WE WANT TO IMPRESS HOW FAST WE CAN GET CONTROL.

[AUDIENCE LAUGHING]

JOYCE: WELL, THAT WOULD BE WORTH YOU COMING

IF THAT'S ALL I SAID.

[AUDIENCE LAUGHING]

JOYCE: BUT I'M GONNA SAY SOME OTHER STUFF.

'CAUSE YOU KNOW WHAT?

UNTIL WE TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AND STOP JUST SAYING,

"WELL, THAT'S JUST THE WAY I AM, I JUST CAN'T HELP IT."

YOU KNOW, WE'VE ALL GOT EXCUSES BUT ALL THEY ARE

IS REASON STUFFED WITH A LIE.

THEY'RE NOT THE TRUTH OF GOD'S WORD

AND GOD HAS GIVEN US A SPIRIT OF SELF-CONTROL

AND IT MAY TAKE A WHILE TO GET IT DEVELOPED

AND TO LEARN HOW TO WALK IN IT BUT THERE'S NO POINT IN ME

OR YOU OR ANYBODY ELSE SAYING, "I JUST CAN'T HELP IT,"

BECAUSE GOD IS NEVER GONNA TELL US

TO DO OR NOT TO DO SOMETHING AND LEAVE US

WITHOUT THE ABILITY TO DO IT.

[AUDIENCE APPLAUDING]

JOYCE: WE CANNOT HAVE SPIRITUAL MATURITY

IF WE DON'T LEARN HOW TO LIVE DEEPER IN GOD.

AND WHAT THAT MEANS IS WE DON'T--WE HAVE FEELINGS

BUT WE DON'T LIVE BY THEM.

WE HAVE THOUGHTS; WE DON'T LIVE BY THEM.

WE HAVE THINGS WE WANT OR DON'T WANT

BUT WE DON'T LIVE BY THEM.

I THINK TOO MANY OF US, WE'RE GOING TO CHURCH

ALL THE TIME TRYING TO FIND A WAY

THAT WE CAN GET WHAT WE WANT AND THAT'S NOT EXACTLY

GOD'S PLAN FOR OUR LIVES, AMEN?

WHAT IF I SAID TO YOU TODAY AND I--WE'LL JUST PRETEND

'CAUSE I WOULD NEVER SAY THIS 'CAUSE YOU'D PROBABLY

NEVER COME BACK IF I DID.

SO WE'LL JUST PRETEND THAT WHAT IF I SAID TO YOU TODAY,

"YOU KNOW, THE THINGS THAT YOU WANT IN YOUR LIFE

YOU'RE NEVER GONNA GET 'EM, SO WILL YOU LOVE GOD

JUST AS MUCH AND SERVE HIM ANYWAY?"

I THINK THAT'S A QUESTION WE ALL NEED TO ASK OURSELVES:

"AM I SERVING GOD FOR WHAT HE CAN DO FOR ME?

AM I JUST WILLING TO SERVE HIM WHEN I'M ON THE MOUNTAINTOPS

IN MY LIFE?

OR AM I WILLING TO SERVE HIM WHEN JUST NOTHING IN MY LIFE

IS MAKING SENSE?

AND I SEE OTHER PEOPLE GETTING WHAT I WANT

AND I DON'T THINK THEY'RE NEARLY AS SPIRITUAL AS I AM

AND SO I DON'T KNOW WHY GOD IS NOT GIVING IT TO ME,

AND GIVING IT TO THEM."

WELL, IT MAY BE THAT ATTITUDE THAT HE'S AFTER.

"WHY ARE YOU GIVING IT TO THEM, GOD?

THEY'RE NOT NEARLY AS SPIRITUAL AS ME.

I AM SO SPIRITUAL."

[AUDIENCE LAUGHING]

JOYCE: ALL RIGHT, ROMANS 8, VERSE 8:

"SO THEN THOSE WHO ARE LIVING THE LIFE OF THE FLESH,"

AND I LIKE THE AMPLIFIED BIBLE, OBVIOUSLY,

I'VE USED IT FOR YEARS.

"THOSE WHO ARE LIVING THE LIFE OF THE FLESH [CATERING

TO THE APPETITES AND IMPULSES OF THEIR CARNAL NATURE]"

SO HE'S SAYING THAT LIVING THE LIFE OF THE FLESH

MEANS THAT WE CATER TO OUR FLESH.

WHATEVER IT WANTS, THAT'S WHAT WE TRY TO GIVE IT.

NOW, I DON'T KNOW IF YOU HAVE EVER HOSTED

A CATERED EVENT BUT IT'S SO MUCH FUN

WHEN THE EVENT'S GOING ON.

I MEAN, YOU'VE GOT ALL KINDS OF PEOPLE WAITING ON YOU.

YOU KNOW, YOU GO TO A REALLY, LIKE, TOP-NOTCH RESTAURANT,

YOU MIGHT HAVE THREE WAITERS OR WAITRESSES THAT ARE JUST

ASSIGNED TO YOUR TABLE.

I MEAN, EVERY TIME YOU GET A CRUMB ON THE TABLE,

THEY'RE COMING AND WIPING IT UP AND ANYTHING YOU WANT,

THEY'RE GONNA GET IT.

THEY, "YES, MA'AM; NO, MA'AM."

THEY KNOW YOUR NAME.

I MEAN, IT'S JUST AWESOME.

BUT YOU KNOW WHAT? YOU WILL GET THE BILL.

[AUDIENCE LAUGHING]

JOYCE: C'MON, AND MAYBE SOME OF YOU

ARE IN A PLACE RIGHT NOW WHERE YOU'VE GOTTEN THE BILL

FOR CATERING TO YOUR FLESH IN THE PAST

AND GOD WANTS YOU TO KNOW THAT THAT CAN TURN AROUND

SO YOU'RE NOT CONTINUING TO PAY THAT PRICE IN THE FUTURE.

YOU KNOW, THE GREAT THING ABOUT GOD IS NO MATTER

HOW MANY MISTAKES YOU'VE MADE IN THE PAST

YOU DON'T HAVE TO KEEP MAKING THEM.

AND THE MORE WE CHOOSE THE RIGHT THING,

THE MORE WE GET OUT OF THE MESSES THAT WE'RE IN.

[AUDIENCE APPLAUDING]

JOYCE: YOU KNOW, WE GET IN TROUBLE--

WE GET IN TROUBLE ONE DECISION AT A TIME.

EVERY TIME WE MAKE A DECISION THAT TAKES US

FURTHER AWAY FROM GOD, THINGS GET WORSE AND WORSE.

AND MAYBE YOU'VE SPENT 40 YEARS MAKING A MESS IN YOUR LIFE.

WELL, DON'T GET MAD AT GOD IF HE HASN'T FIXED IT IN A WEEK.

[AUDIENCE LAUGHING]

JOYCE: YOU MAY NOT BE WHERE YOU WANNA BE

BUT IF YOU'RE STARTING TO MAKE RIGHT DECISIONS

IN YOUR LIFE NOW, THINGS ARE GETTING BETTER

AND BETTER.

AND EVEN LIKE CHOOSING TO BE HERE THIS WEEKEND,

IT'S GOING TO MAKE YOUR LIFE BETTER.

YOU MAY NOT FEEL ZIPPY DIFFERENT WHEN YOU WALK OUT OF HERE

BUT I CAN TELL YOU THAT NEXT WEEK OR THE WEEK AFTER

OR THE MONTH AFTER YOU'RE GONNA REMEMBER

SOMETHING THAT WAS SAID AND IT'S GONNA KEEP YOU

FROM GETTING IN TROUBLE ON THAT DAY.

AND SO WE DON'T ALWAYS--

[AUDIENCE APPLAUDING]

JOYCE: WE DON'T ALWAYS REAP IMMEDIATELY,

THE MOMENT THAT WE SOW, BUT IF WE SOW WE WILL REAP

IN DUE SEASON AND AT THE RIGHT TIME.

SO WE'VE GOTTA BE CAREFUL ABOUT CATERING TO OUR APPETITES

AND IMPULSES.

1 CORINTHIANS 3:3.

PAUL SAID, "YOU ARE STILL [UNSPIRITUAL],"

AND HE WAS TALKING TO CHRISTIANS.

YOU KNOW, WEAK--

THERE'S CARNAL CHRISTIANS AND THERE'S

SPIRITUAL CHRISTIANS, AND OUR GOAL SHOULD BE

NOT TO BE A CARNAL CHRISTIAN BECAUSE CARNAL CHRISTIANS

ARE THOSE WHO WALK IN THE FLESH.

THEY ARE THE ONES WHO DO EVERYTHING

THEY FEEL LIKE DOING, GO AFTER EVERYTHING

THEY THINK THEY SHOULD HAVE, AND DO WHAT THEY WANT.

HOW MANY OF YOU ARE WITH ME OR YOU'RE STILL

TRACKING HERE WITH ME?

HE SAYS, "AN UNSPIRITUAL CHRISTIAN

IS SOMEBODY WHO IS UNDER THE CONTROL

OF ORDINARY IMPULSES."

I LIKE THAT.

YOU KNOW, THAT'S WHY EMOTIONS CAN COME ACROSS

LIKE SOMETIMES LIKE A...

YOU SAY SOMETHING I DON'T LIKE, I FEEL LIKE TELLING YOU OFF

SO I DO.

YOU SAY SOMETHING I DON'T LIKE, I DECIDE

TO SHUT YOU OUT OF MY LIFE AND I'M NOT EVER

GONNA TALK TO YOU AGAIN.

WELL, YOU KNOW, SOMETIMES WHEN PEOPLE OFFEND ME

I STILL FEEL THAT WAY BUT NOW I'VE LEARNED

I DON'T GET TO DO WHAT I FEEL LIKE.

I HAVE TO DO WHAT THE WORD TELLS ME TO DO

IF I WANNA HAVE THE LIFE THAT JESUS WANTS ME TO HAVE.

SHALL I SAY THAT AGAIN?

[AUDIENCE APPLAUDING]

JOYCE: ALL RIGHT, NOW, HERE'S ONE OF THE SYMPTOMS

OF BEING A BABY CHRISTIAN, A CARNAL, UNSPIRITUAL CHRISTIAN.

"AS LONG AS [THERE IS] ENVY AND JEALOUSY AND WRANGLINGS

AND FACTIONS," WHICH IS STRIFE, "AMONG YOU,

ARE YOU NOT UNSPIRITUAL AND OF THE FLESH,

BEHAVING YOURSELVES AFTER A MERE HUMAN STANDARD

LIKE (UNCHANGED) MEN?"

DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH STRIFE THERE IS IN THE CHURCH?

HOW MANY PEOPLE GO TO CHURCH AND LISTEN TO SOME MAN

OR SOME WOMAN PREACH EVERY WEEK AND THEN LEAVE AND

GO TO LUNCH WITH THEIR FRIENDS AND DO NOTHING

BUT GOSSIP ABOUT HIM?

C'MON, DON'T LOOK AT ME LIKE THAT.

[AUDIENCE LAUGHING]

JOYCE: THERE CAN BE STRIFE ON THE WORSHIP TEAM,

STRIFE AMONG THE NURSERY STAFF, STRIFE ON THE CHURCH STAFF.

AND SEE, WHERE THERE'S STRIFE, GOD CAN'T BLESS US.

BUT WHERE TWO AGREE ABOUT ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING,

WHATEVER THEY ASK FOR, GOD CAN DO IT.

THERE'S POWER IN AGREEMENT AND THAT'S EXACTLY

WHY SATAN TRIES SO HARD TO STIR UP STRIFE.

I WONDER HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE SITTING IN HERE TODAY

AND YOU'RE MAD AT SOMEBODY.

WELL, YEAH, I DON'T KNOW.

YOU GUYS ARE LOOKING TOO INNOCENT FOR ME.

[AUDIENCE LAUGHING]

JOYCE: MAYBE YOU DON'T HAVE THESE PROBLEMS IN SEATTLE.

MAYBE YOU'RE TOO BUSY WORRYING ABOUT THE WEATHER,

I DON'T KNOW.

[AUDIENCE LAUGHING]

JOYCE: YOU KNOW, A.B. SIMPSON, WHO'S THE MAN

I WAS TELLING YOU ABOUT THAT WROTE THE THINGS

THAT I SAID ABOUT HOW EASILY OUR FEELINGS CHANGE,

HE SAID HE ALWAYS LIVES BY THIS FORMULA:

"FIRST IN IMPORTANCE IS THE FACT OF GOD'S WORD.

THIS IS THE STANDARD.

THE NEXT THING IS I CHOOSE TO PUT MY FAITH

IN THE FACTS OF GOD'S WORD.

AND THE LAST THING THAT WE PAY ATTENTION TO

IS OUR FEELINGS.

FEELINGS ARE FICKLE.

THEY'RE EVER-CHANGING AND, BOY,

HOW QUICK THEY CAN CHANGE.

HOW SUDDENLY THEY CAN CHANGE."

HOW MANY OF YOU HAVE EVER GOTTEN EXCITED AND BOUGHT SOMETHING

AND, BOY, YOU SPENT THE NEXT 10 YEARS

WISHING YOU WOULDN'T HAVE?

[AUDIENCE LAUGHING]

JOYCE: HM-MM.

WATCHMAN NEE, WHO WAS A GREAT CHRISTIAN WRITER,

SAID THAT "EMOTIONS ARE THE BELIEVER'S

NUMBER ONE ENEMY."

WHOO.

"THEY KEEP PEOPLE WALKING IN THE FLESH.

THEY KEEP PEOPLE OUT OF THE WILL OF GOD."

I THINK IT'S JUST GOOD TO TAKE A LITTLE TIME

THIS AFTERNOON JUST TO REMEMBER HOW EASILY WE'RE LED AROUND

BY OUR FEELINGS.

JOYCE: WELL, ALL OF US HAVE EMOTIONS

AND THEY CAN DICTATE OUR LIVES IF WE LET THEM.

BUT WE CAN BE SECURE IN WHO WE ARE AND WE CAN LEARN

TO FOLLOW GOD'S WORD AND NOT FOLLOW

HOW WE FEEL ALL THE TIME.

Implement Hybrid Identity Governance - Duration: 8:00.

Oracle Identity Cloud Service integrates with Oracle Identity Manager to create

hybrid solutions that extend the advanced features of Oracle Identity

Manager to the cloud. In this video I'll show you how to integrate the Oracle

Identity Cloud Service with Oracle Identity Manager. Once integrated I'll

use Oracle Identity Manager, or OIM for short, to implement segregation of

duties, user certification and hybrid reporting. In this example I'll use

segregation of duties in OIM to restrict access to an Oracle Identity Cloud

Service administrative group. The policy will ensure that users can only be in

the Java Cloud Service administrators group if they're also in the IT

department. Next I'll configure certification in OIM to implement a

cloud access review process that allows us to certify or revoke access to the

cloud. Lastly I'll view certification and segregation of duties reports in the OIM

self-service console. Let's get started! Before the hybrid scenarios can be done

I need to integrate OIM with Oracle Identity Cloud Service. I'll complete the

integration by configuring the Oracle Identity Cloud Service connector in OIM.

The connector is used automatically and continuously provision and reconcile

users and groups between OIM and Oracle Identity Cloud Service. After I install

and configure the Oracle Identity Cloud Service connector I configure OIM as

an application in Oracle Identity Cloud Service. The application configuration

provides access to the Oracle Identity Cloud Service administrative API's. Next

I configure the Oracle Identity Cloud Service IT resource. The IT resource is

configured with OAuth authorization details to allow access to Oracle

Identity Cloud Service for OIM. The Oracle Identity Cloud Service and OIM

integration relies on the HTTPS protocol. I need to configure the certificates

used for the encryption to be in the OIM trust store. Once the integration is

complete I can then reconcile Oracle Identity Cloud Service groups and

managers. In OIM the reconciliation process results in the

generation of events that are applied to OIM based on changes in the target

system, which in this case is Oracle Identity

Cloud Service. The events in this scenario will contain information about

Oracle Identity Cloud Service user accounts and group membership. Next I

expose Oracle Identity Cloud Service in the OIM catalog. I create a new OIM

sandbox with a new form for Oracle Identity Cloud Service users. Next I

enable the new form by publishing the sandbox.

After the sandbox is published I need to run the catalog synchronization job.

Synchronizing the access request catalog allows users to search for and request

access to the Oracle Identity Cloud Service in the OIM self-service console.

After completing the OIM and Oracle Identity Cloud Service integration I

test it by requesting Oracle Identity Cloud Service access for OIM users. I

do this by requesting access to Oracle Identity Cloud Service in the OIM

self-service console and activating the account in the confirmation email. I'm

now able to login to Oracle Identity Cloud Service as the provisioned user.

Next I'll configure a hybrid segregation of duties scenario. This scenario

illustrates the use of specific OIM policy enforcement in Oracle Identity

Cloud Service. First I create a rule to start the policy configuration. In this

case the rule requires that only members of the IT department can be members of

the Java Cloud Service administrators group.

Next I add the rule to a new audit policy. The identity audit feature of OIM

detects segregation of duties violations in two ways. One way is by scanning all

users in detective mode to detect violations. The other way is by

preventing users from requesting access that would violate the policies. I

perform a scan with the new policy to check for segregation of duties policy

violations with the detective mode feature of identity audit. The results of

the scan are that the Kenney Westerdal user from finance is in the JCS

administrators group in violation of the policy. The policy also proactively

prevents a policy violation. In preventive mode the user can't gain

access to both groups from Oracle Identity Cloud Service. Next I'll show

the configuration of the OIM certification

feature in our hybrid scenario. The OIM certification feature allows the users

manager and also the owners of roles, applications and entitlements to either

approve or deny requested access. In our integrated environment we can extend

this OIM feature to Oracle Identity Cloud Service users. Certification is

configured by assigning risk levels to catalog resources in OIM. In this case we

assign a level of high to JCS administrators, medium to marketing cloud

users and low to the Oracle Identity Cloud Service application. Next i create

a certification definition. Identity certification is the process of

reviewing user entitlements and access privileges. Managers use this feature to

either certify that the user can have the access or revoke the access if the

user isn't authorized. For our scenario I create a policy called Cloud Access

Review to allow for managers to review all access to the Oracle Identity Cloud

Service instance. With the certification policy in place we can now perform

certification. The results of the certification show all users with Oracle

Identity Cloud Service access. I certify all the users with the exception of one

user who I'm revoking. This user isn't authorized for cloud access. Now let's

review the results of the certification actions in the dashboard. The OIM

certification dashboard displays the result of completed certifications. The

users we approved as well as the one revoked user are shown. Next I'll show

how the OIM and Oracle Identity Cloud Service integration allows for various

hybrid reporting scenarios. With the Oracle Identity Cloud Service user

entitlement configured in OIM, we can now produce a report of all Oracle Identity

Cloud Service users. The report shows the users name, user ID, status, organization,

manager and date of last change. A separate report also shows deleted users.

The user resource access report contains an individual users access. This report

shows all provisioned resources for a particular user. Per the report this user

has access to the Oracle Identity Cloud Service.

Since I configured identity certification and identity audit

policies, I can also access reports showing the results of the policy

enforcement. This is an example certification report. The report shows

that a user had requested access but was denied by the approver per the

certification policy. This report shows a policy violation for the segregation of

duties policy I implemented earlier. The user in this report violated the

segregation of duties policy for the JCS administrators group. Only members of the

IT department can be members of the JCS administrators group. In this video I've

shown you how the Oracle Identity Cloud service could be integrated with Oracle

Identity Manager. After completing the Oracle Identity

Cloud Service connector configuration in Oracle Identity Manager, I extended

several OIM features to the Oracle Identity Cloud Service environment. These

features are segregation of duties, user certification and hybrid reporting. This

video is based on Oracle By Example tutorials in the Oracle Learning Library.

What is a Megajournal? - Duration: 2:42.

Hi there.

I am John Bond from Riverwinds Consulting and this is Publishing Defined.

Today I am going to talk about megajournals.

A megajournal is a peer-reviewed scholarly open access journal.

It is usually more expansive in scope than a traditional journal.

The characteristics of megajournals are usually considered to be: online only, open access

(and therefore funded via an APC or Article Processing Charge), broad in scope, willing

to consider most articles on their technical merit, and usually a rapid turnaround time

to publication.

The first megajournal in many people's minds was PLOS ONE, or the Public Library of Science.

Other certainly preceded PLOS ONE, such as The Scientific World Journal and some Biomed

Central publications.

Many other megajournals have followed such as Scientific Reports, Nature Communications,

BMJ Open, and many others.

The topic of a megajournal can be as broad as science, or medicine, or the like and is

very rarely as focused as subscription journals are.

PLOS ONE has recently been overtaken by Scientific Reports as the largest megajournal.

Mega, is applied more to the size of the journal's subject than the volume of paper's published,

which vary widely from PLOS's huge output to much more modest ones from second tier

journals like Heliyon or others.

The phrase megajournal for some has been, incorrectly, associated with predatory publishing.

The megajournal format has been the focus of other criticisms as well.

At the end of the day, the question many have had in scholarly publishing is what some megajournals

have added to the intellectual discussions in their chosen field?

Have they added more to the conversation or are they simply a venue for an author to publish,

and a source of revenue for the publishers?

Well that's it.

I am a publishing consultant and work with associations, publishers, and individuals

on a host of content related challenges.

The Last March of the Ents | The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002) CLIP 4 (+Subtitles) - Duration: 4:30.

I will leave you at the western borders of the forest.

You can make your way north to your homeland from there.

Wait! Stop!

Stop!

Turn around.

- Turn around. Take us south. - South?

But that will lead you past Isengard.

Yes. Exactly.

If we go south, we can slip past Saruman unnoticed.

The closer we are to danger, the farther we are from harm.

It's the last thing he'll expect.

That doesn't make sense to me.

But then...

...you are very small.

Perhaps you're right.

South it is, then.

Hold on, little Shirelings.

I always like going south.

Somehow it feels like going downhill.

Are you mad? We'll be caught.

No, we won't.

Not this time.

Look!

Osgiliath burns!

Mordor has come.

The Ring will not save Gondor.

It has only the power to destroy.

Please...

...let me go.

Hurry.

Faramir!

You must let me go!

And those little family of field mice...

...that climb up sometimes, and they tickle me awfully.

They're always trying to get somewhere where they...

Many of these trees were my friends.

Creatures I had known from nut and acorn.

I'm sorry, Treebeard.

They had voices of their own.

Saruman.

A wizard should know better!

There is no curse in Elvish...

...Entish or the tongues of Men...

...for this treachery.

Look! The trees! They're moving!

Where are they going?

They have business with the Orcs.

My business is with Isengard tonight...

...with rock and stone.

Yes.

Come, my friends.

The Ents are going to war.

It is likely...

...that we go to our doom.

Last march...

...of the Ents.

You have to maintain limitless happiness.

Do not suppress your happiness under the influence of the vices.

Answer: Those who do the service of making others equalto themselves and give happiness to everyone are lucky.

Those who simply eat and sleep are unlucky. ( Does not do any service )

They continue to cause sorrow for one another.

When something is lacking in their efforts, they become unlucky.

Question: What are the signs of children whose operation of the third eye is successful?

Answer: They do not repeatedly fall in the storms of Maya.

They do not stumble around.

Their behaviour is divine and they imbibe knowledge well.

Song: Leave Your throne of the sky and come down to earth.

Essence for dharna: 1. The directions of the Father, the Teacher, the Guru, the Brother etc. are all merged in the directions of the one Father.

Therefore, only follow His directions. Don't follow the dictates of human beings.

2. Let the past be the past and gallop in your efforts.

Don't become slack, saying, "If it is in the drama."

Do the service of making others equal to yourself.

Blessing: May you be an image of success in serving yourself and others with the original sanskar of paying attention and practicing.

An original sanskar of Brahmin souls is "Paying attention and practicing".

Therefore, never have any tension in paying attention. Always serve yourself and others at the same time.

Those who put service of the self aside and remain engaged in serving others cannot achieve success.

So, keep a balance between the two and move forward. Do not become weak.

You are an instrument soul who has been victorious many times.

For a victorious soul, nothing is hard work or difficult.

Slogan: Become merciful with knowledge and your heart will be able to have disinterest in weaknesses.

To the sweetest, beloved, long-lost and now-found children, who are the decoration of the Brahmin clan

and spinners of the discus of self-realisation, love and remembrance.

However, children spin the discus very little. ( Baba has said always spin the discuss ) . Some of you don't spin it at all.

The Father says to you every day: Children who are spinners of the discus of self-realisation: these too are blessings that you receive.

Achcha. The spiritual Father says namaste to the sweetest, spiritual children.

We spiritual children convey to spiritual Baapdada, our love our remembrance, our good morning & our namaste namaste

Om Shanti !

Centralization vs Decentralization - Duration: 6:14.

In this video, we're going to talk about the difference between centralization

and decentralization in organizations. So let's unpack the details.

Hello again friends. Alex Lyon here. If you've never tuned in to this channel before,

Communication Coach, we put out weekly videos on professional communication and

leadership skills. And today we're going to talk about Centralization versus

Decentralization in organizational settings. I think once you see each of

these in their side-by-side comparisons you'll be able to see your own personal

experience a little bit more clearly and understand how organizations work. and

as we talk about each of these, I would like to invite you to make a comment

below, in that section below the video, about where you see the strengths and the

disadvantages under each of these models. So let's start with the centralized

style of organizational structure. This is where you see all of the power

concentrated in a single individual or a small group of individuals. In fact, the

tell-tale sign you're dealing with a centralized type of organization is

where the top boss is the president CEO and chairman of the board. that's highly

centralized authority under one person. And as a result all of the power

authority and the decision-making power is held in that person's hands. So a lot

of times what you'll see is quite a bit of top-down communication where the

person in the top position makes a decision and hands that communication

down, hands a decision down, and the communication flows down the chain of

command all the way eventually down to the people at their front line of the

organization. So in that way you have what we call the classic hierarchy. You

have all of these levels represented like in a military style where you have

the top general, so to speak, the top officers and then all the middle people

and then finally the frontline supervisors and frontline employees. So

it's a pyramid if you will. And as part of every pyramid you also frequently see

division of labor where each of these jobs is broken up into small little

pieces. So you might do one little thing and then hand it off to the next person.

It's a little bit like an assembly line where everybody just has one little

tiny piece of the job to complete the job overall in the end. Now even if

you're in an office setting, by the way, you can still feel this assembly line

philosophy woven into this hierarchy and this division of labor style that you

often see in a centralized style of organization. So what we end up with is

something that is tightly coupled, a system that has tight coupling. so

everything in the organization is directly connected and if one thing

happens in this department the other departments feel the jolt. so anytime

something happens in an assembly line, let's say you're going from A to Z to

finish your product. If something happens at Step C the whole assembly line

has to stop. And that becomes a really big problem for the organization because

all the work grinds to complete halt. so that's a tightly coupled. Now the upside

of a centralized style of organization is control and stability. In fact the

whole thing is designed for control. So if you consider that an advantage than

it is. the downside is that they're not very flexible. So if change happens

they're pretty bad at adapting to that change especially in the marketplace. And

also they're really bad at upward communication, that bottom-up

communication. So if there's good feedback from employees or from customers, it

doesn't really make it to the top level decision-makers through all those levels

of hierarchy. And if they do hear about something, it's usually distorted or

tainted a little bit. So that's the centralized style. Now let's contrast

that with the decentralized style of organizations. This is where the

control is spread out. So you don't have one person who is the Chairman the CEO and

the president. You have people in different positions like this so that

decision-making power is somewhat spread out. Authority is somewhat spread out.

Just like in the states of the United States. We have 50 states we have a

central government, but let's just pretend for a minute that our country was more

emphasized on the state-level control. that would be a little bit more

decentralized and it's the same way an organizations. When power is distributed

between and among the teams or the units or the department heads, that's a little

bit more decentralized so it doesn't all have to go through the people at the

very very top of the hierarchy. And so as a result you often have decision-making

power as well as communication spread out throughout the groups and the

team. So lots more communication between and among team members on a team and

between it among the teams themselves. So, not a hierarchy and division of labour

but this team-based work. So you have a lot of cross-training. People know how to

do multiple jobs and know how to learn over time through cross-training. how to

work with others outside of their immediate department. You end up with

something called a loosely coupled system. So instead of an assembly line

where it's tightly coupled and everything is directly affecting the

other, a loosely coupled system is where the pieces are still connected but the

connection is more of an interdependent connection. So if one team has a problem

it's not likely to directly affect the other teams. they might feel some

influence eventually but the other teams can keep working. The assembly line

doesn't grind to a halt because it's not organized that way. so the advantages of

a decentralized organization obviously it's flexible and adaptable to changes

in the marketplace. And usually teams produce very high-quality products and

services. the downside is that coordination is not automatic and teams

have to learn over time to get better at communicating between and among the team

so that they're not just working in a completely isolated fashion. they have to

work all together as well at times. so those are contrasting look and a

comparison at centralized versus decentralized organizations. As I put

these side-by-side here, I would like to ask you which one do you most relates

you. Where do you see yourself in each of these in your professional experience?

Again, as I mentioned, I would love to hear you comment in that section below

the video. I look forward to reading those comments. If you have never

subscribed to this channel, I invite you to do so. As I mentioned we put out

weekly content on professional communication and leadership skills. So

until next time, God bless and I will see you in the next video.

Integrate Custom Client Applications with OAuth 2.0 and OpenID Connect - Duration: 5:12.

Oracle Identity Cloud Service provides Identity Management services that can be leveraged

by any application in the cloud, using open standard integrations.

In this video, you will learn to integrate your client and resource server applications

with Identity Cloud Service's federated single sign on and authorization.

In this integration, we use OAuth 2.0 and OpenID Connect open standards.

OAuth 2.0 provides authorization services in the cloud with consent.

OpenID Connect extends the OAuth standard with federated single sign-on capabilities.

By performing this integration, your applications will provide secure access to users, even

without having user data stored in their databases.

All the user data, authentication, and authorization will be provided by Oracle Identity Cloud

Service during real time.

To demonstrate the integration, we will use the demo applications Customer Quotes and

Sales Insight.

Customer quotes is a web application accessed by the sales team to gather information about

their sales performance.

Sales insight is a REST server that provides information about sales to other applications,

like Customer quotes.

Since the sales information is confidential, both Customer Quotes and Sales Insight require

user authentication and authorization to display information.

First let's integrate Customer Quotes with Oracle Identity Cloud Service's federated

single sign on.

With this integration, users can access applications in the cloud with a single login provided

by Oracle Identity Cloud Service.

To perform the integration we first register Customer Quotes as an application.

A client id and client secret will be issued.

These are the equivalent of a credential that the client application will use to authenticate

itself against Oracle Identity Cloud Service.

Finally, we need to activate the application.

Now that the application is active, we need to update Customer Quotes with the client

id, secret, and url from Oracle Identity Cloud Service.

The integration is now complete.

Let's launch the application and log in.

After logging in, notice that the user information is data provided by Oracle Identity Cloud

Service.

Due to single sign on, users also have direct access to their profile information.

Now that the Customer Quotes integration is complete, let's work on the Sales Insight

application,

a REST Service that provides information about sales to other applications, like customer

quotes.

Customer Quotes needs to gather data on behalf of the logged in user from Sales Insight,

while Sales Insight needs to evaluate if the request from Customer Quotes is legitimate.

With Oracle Identity Cloud Service application and scopes, you can protect both applications.

We need to register Sales Insight as an application in Oracle Identity Cloud Service.

This is performed in a similar way as the customer quotes application, except this time

we need to add the allowed scopes for the resources.

Create one scope for each REST API call supported by the Sales Insight service.

As before you will be issued a client id and client secret.

Activate the application to complete the process.

Now let's visit the Customer Quotes application and add the scopes from Sales Insight.

Now that the Identity Cloud Service configuration is complete, we need to update Sales Insight

with the client id, secret, and URL from Oracle Identity Cloud Service.

The integration is now complete so let's access the Customer Quotes application.

After login, click on Urgent Quotes.

With this option, customer quotes needs to make a REST call to Sales Insight.

Oracle Identity Cloud Service receives an access token request from Customer Quotes

to access a Sales Insights REST API, on behalf of the resource owner.

Oracle Identity Cloud Service presents a consent request to the user.

This time, a user can allow Customer Quotes to check their urgent quotes.

After allowing consent, Oracle Identity Cloud Service returns an access token that Customer

Quotes passes along with the REST call to Sales Insight.

Sales Insight validates if the access token is legitimate using a digital signature provided

by Oracle Identity Cloud Service.

If it is, it returns the quotes to the Customer Quotes application that displays the results

to the user.

With Oracle Identity Cloud Service, you can bring your applications to the cloud using

OAuth 2.0 and OpenID Connect standards.

Your applications don't need user data, since this data is provided by Oracle Identity

Cloud Service during runtime.

To learn more about these integrations, you can download the sales insight and customer

quotes applications from github and try our tutorials.

You can also use the applications as a template to create, or update your own.

Thank you for watching.

L.O.V.E. Portugal - Senses - Duration: 1:17.

SENSES

Portugal... a country of poets where poetry can be felt in each place you visit and each moment you live...

The smell of flowers, the texture of plants...

So many churches full of History, so many different echoes…

The unmistakable flavour of traditional dishes...

The feeling of being here is unique, for all the senses.

In Portugal, I've seen many things. All of them, with the heart.

And the best of all is sharing this experience with a great friend.
