There's not many movies, that so directly, so sharply, and yet in vary attractive way
manifest the need to dialogue and understanding.
In "Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri", Martin McDonagh
presents a complex dissertation about this key aspects of humanity.
We are introduced to the story by Frances McDormand (memorable Marge from Coens' "Fargo")
and her character Mildred Hayes.
She decides to rent three unused, located on the side of the suburbs of a small American town, billboards,
to mobilize the local police for increased action in the matter of her daughter's murder.
Case, which in the last months was in dead end.
The responsibility for this stagnation she dropped on the sheriff Bill Willoughby (Woody Harrelson),
who gets his support from one of his subordinates, impulsive,
crushed under mother's shoe, James Dixon (Sam Rockwell).
At the beginning McDonagh creates a spiral of anger, hate and violence,
to gradually, by showing the situation of the characters and thoroughly exploring their psychology,
capture the complexity of the perspectives.
Mildred has every right to embitter, her family has been hit by a huge tragedy.
The feeling of unjustice additionally emphasizes anger in relation to the aggressive ex-husband
and regret for all the quarrels with dead daughter,
After one of such rows she never again had the opportunity to come back to home.
Also, the sheriff Willoughby, blamed by the women, isn't at all,

attached to a comfortable chair representative of a small-town middle class,
who lazily awaits the end of a working day.
During the first confrontation in front of the Mildred's house, he tries so explain his perspective
and that without any clues, he can't do anything.
This simple gesture of reaching out to the women
becomes the basis for a later attempt to understand different reasons and built mutual respect.
The basis so durable, that even future sheriff's personal tragedy won't destroy its foundation.
The strenght of McDonagh's movie is shapely incorporation of this psychological feature into criminal plot.
while never taking shortcut, mercilessly confronting the protagonists with reality
and the consequences of their deeds.
Through the movie the director supports the suspens, but over time, casually, almost imperceptibly,
starts to subordinate the narration to the main idea, which is the need of mutual understanding,
which allows to establish a dialogue.
In times of great social unrest, which create even greater divisions
"Three Billboards..." express the need to build bridges.
Bridges, which perhaps, could lead to a common goal.
