The series 11 of Doctor Who is clear about its politics:

It wants to show on the television as much diversity as possible.

We already spent some time on transidentity or skin colors of the characters,

but they aren't the only broached subjects.

Another one is the handicap.

Ryan Sinclair, one of the Doctor's companions, has difficulty cycling.

He tries and he tries again and again, but his progress is slow.

Ryan also has difficulty climbing to the ladders.

He stumbles when he runs.

This is not clumsiness. No.

This is his brain playing him tricks because Ryan has dyspraxia.

In a show going fast

where characters are systematically running,

that sort of disorder can be as difficult as interesting for a script.

And, until now, according to the concerned ones,

it has been correctly addressed.

Following the broadcast of the first episode,

we received several comments about Ryan.

I am talking about our comments,

but I saw the same kind of reactions on social networks.

Many happy comments from dyspraxic people,

recognizing Ryan's difficulties and challenges,

even saying it was the first time they saw a dyspraxic character on TV.

But also some mocking comments,

not really understanding what it is about and responding as often in these cases:

by decreasing the real impact of this kind of disorder on a person's life.

So, why not take this as an opportunity to discover more about this?

Cognitive disorders, what are they?

"The Ryan Sinclair Case: What are the "dys-" cognitive disorders?"

A cognitive disorder is a brain dysfunction

due to the alteration of some brain processes.

That may mean, for example,

to have trouble to pay attention, to read, to write, to talk, etc.

This disorder has no influence on the intellect,

an incorrect leap often made but still wrong.

To have learning difficulties in one domain doesn't mean you can't excel elsewhere.

They are specifically developmental cognitive disorders, or learning disorders.

They appear from childhood and continue into adulthood.

They can be partially alleviated with specific amenities and attentions

that will be more effective if they are put in place quickly.

The sooner the disorder is diagnosed, easier will be the adaptation of the child.

To not diagnose a "dys" disorder is also taking a risk on the uneasiness of the child,

a feeling of lack of understanding, the feeling of being stupid compared to other children

who can write better, count better or manipulate objects better than him.

A part of his brain puts him in a situation of handicap

and makes a task, that seems simple, more complex.

These disorders can greatly ease while growing up, almost even not interrupt everyday life,

but they will remain present.

The problem, for the "healthy" ones (like me), is that we tend to minimize these disorders.

We can not really imagine how this can affect the everyday life.

That being said, just by knowing their existence,

we are making a step towards better understanding.

So what are these famous "dys-" disorders?

There are six categories:

written language disorders, oral language ones,

math learning ones, attention ones,

motor developmental coordination ones

and memory process ones.

Sounds abstract, but do not worry, I will develop.

The best known to the general public are the reading and writing disorder.

There are two of them: dyslexia and dysorthographia.

Generally, if someone has one of these disorders, he is likely to have the other one as well.

They are sometimes topped with a third disorder, dysgraphia,

that makes difficult to write readably enough.

A dyslexic person experiences significant reading problems,

making mistakes, being slow, having trouble understanding a text

and being tired quickly because of the high concentration of reading.

A dysorthographic person has difficulty to apply spelling rules, even by knowing them,

and therefore, have difficulties in writing.

To redo the link with Doctor Who, the show has already presented a dyslexic character:

the young Elliott in "The Hungry Earth" and "Cold Blood" stories.

Specific disorders of oral language development are called "dysphasia".

A dysphasic person has either trouble to express himself

or trouble to understand what is said to him, or both.

He has difficulties to communicate and to be understood so, generally, to integrate.

Math learning disorders are called "dyscalculia".

For a dyscalculic person, numbers do not make sense.

He will have difficulties to count, to solve problems based on numbers,

but especially to calculate, whether it'is mental arithmetic or written calculation.

"Attention deficit disorders (ADD)"... use a name that explains pretty well what they are about.

It makes difficult to focus, to organize,

to finish started tasks, to contain oneself, to apply or to invest oneself.

They sometimes combined with hyperactivity (ADHD).

Specific disorders of mnemonic processes development act on memory.

It is difficult to memorize information of any kind:

what we just did, where we put our stuff, what we planned, what someone said just before;

which makes some exchanges difficult.

Finally, let's talk about the motor developmental coordination disorders,

in other words, the famous dyspraxia that concerns our dear Ryan Sinclair.

A dyspraxic person has not only trouble riding a bike or climbing ladders.

It's a whole bunch of daily activity requiring a motor action that will be hindered:

to eat, to drink, to get dressed, to find one's way in space,

to practice a musical instrument, to practice sport, to cut up, to do precision work, etc.

In short, "dys-" disorders affect a lot of people.

There are no official precise statistics

but, basically, it probably concerns about 1 in 12 people in France.

By introducing a dyspraxic character in Doctor Who,

the production team makes the choice to present a widespread disorder

but yet not really known from the general audience,

and that is frankly to their credit.

I bet most of you did not know what dyspraxia was,

even had not heard the term before the episode.

Nothing better than talking about it to understand better

and according to the concerned ones

Doctor Who speaks well about it, without exaggerating, without minimizing, just well.

The life of Ryan does not revolve around his disability, even if it is impacted.

Nothing seems to stop Ryan Sinclair when he is determined,

and I do not know about you but, personally,

I can not wait to find out what the future holds for him.

because here, in south of Corsica,

for a moment

we have had the same sensations …

We sail through the south of Corsica

aboard "Ala Jacta Est"

is an Amel Maramu

My Bottom Line Key to a Successful Marriage - Duration: 6:45.

We see many articles with three, five or 15 keys to a happy or successful marriage.

I'm going to share with you one bottom line key that I heard from a long time married

husband many years ago.

I heard a nugget of truth years ago during an interview

with a couple who've been married over 50 years.

The interviewer asked the husband, really?

He asked him, he said, what's the secret to having a happy marriage?

His answer was so simple and so profound that it embedded firmly in my memory bank and I'm

going to share that with you.

Amazon and the Internet are chock full of articles, podcasts, and videos that provide

answers to that question.

Authors and videographers from every stripe and background have an opinion, secular Christian,

new age and everything in between.

If you do a Google search on quote keys, successful marriage.

When I did it, it revealed these titles on the first page of results.

Eight, essential for a successful marriage.

15 keys to a successful marriage, three keys to a successful marriage.

Seven, love keys to a successful marriage.

Five secrets of a successful marriage.

So how many keys are there and I have no doubt that if I click to page two, who knows what

other numbers might have popped up, now look at, I'm deliberately not going to share the

hyperlinks because I have no clue if any of these articles are really good or helpful.

Now, I suspect because they ranked so high that many of them contain factual and useful

elements regardless of the spiritual leanings of the authors.

I believe though that all truth originates with the god of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob,

and each writer can specifically embrace or accidentally wander into ultimately what the

Bible or the word of God declares.

In our counseling center, we see many clients both in the office and online.

We're struggling with marriage issues.

That's why they come in looking for help.

Personally.

My approach to helping people is to try to help them simplify complex issues.

Let's get behind the presenting problems and discern the real root of what's going on.

Now look at for every person's life, there can be many concerns that facets and in their

background, but I'm going to share with you my view that most marriage issues stem from

one fundamental sources and that's selfishness.

If you I'm in a marriage, are dealing with too selfish partners.

The situations use the chaotic and the Lord really needs work miracles to bring restoration

there.

If you have one selfish partner and one giver, the Union often limps along in survival mode.

As I say with one person giving any other person which beard better at taking or being

selfish.

Often they seek counseling when the giver has reached the bottom of a barrel of what

they have to offer and give no.

Obviously the ideal situation for any marriage is when both partners choose to live unselfish

lifestyles with each other and focusing on meeting their partner's needs in addition

to their own.

That's one of many simple prescriptions in scripture.

Bottom line, husbands are to love their wives as Christ loved the church.

After all, he gave himself up for the year and for the church and served it well.

Why?

It's artists submit or if you like, serve their husbands and you can see this in Ephesians

five, 22 and 23, Ephesians five, 28, Ephesians five, 33 and others.

Now Look, if you've listened this far, you're probably curious enough to find out what the

husband's answer that I that I mentioned in the first paragraph.

Okay, here it is.

This man gave this response to the question about keys to a successful marriage, to his

successful marriage.

He said this, marry someone who's a better person than you are, and do whatever it takes

to keep them happy.

How's that?

Was that worth the.

Wait, that phrase is the essence of unselfishness.

Don't you think?

Like I say, years ago when I first heard this man's response, I didn't make a conscious

effort to memorize it.

The answer I think just resonated with my spirit and stayed with me over the years.

Um, as a Christian husband with me personally with more than 40 years, log with my, with

my fantastic Wifi.

I knew that he had distilled many truths down to that one single nugget of wisdom.

Okay?

I have no idea, man.

I have no memory of whether that was a man was a believer or not.

There was this much I do know there was no biblical reference or preaching involved because

I believe God's principles work in every situation and I know of many unsaved couples who have

healthy and thriving marriages because they live this truth out day by day.

You may not be married to someone that maybe you're stuck in a tough situation, but let

me ask you, are you willing to do whatever it takes to make your spouse happy and we're

not talking about weird, illicit or illegal stuff, right?

You can begin to make that change in your relationship regardless of where you're supposed

to spiritually.

Gaining encouragement from first Peter Three, one.

Well, it mentions why specifically, I personally have seen husbands and wives receiving Jesus

because of the behaviors, not the words of their partner.

If you're stuck in a difficult marriage, I'm not presenting a quick fix, remedy nor encouraging,

staying in an abusive situation.

Look, if you need help, get it.

If your partner doesn't submit to counseling as a couple, do it for yourself.

God wants marriage, his whole healthy and restored.

He can show you

how to cooperate with him and walk in peace and victory as you made that fabulous.
