Magnitude 5.4 quake hits Korea's southeastern coastal city of Pohang - Duration: 1:38.

A 5-point-4 magnitude earthquake... hit the southeastern Korean city of Pohang early Wednesday

afternoon.

For more, we have our Lee Ji-won on the line.

Ji-won, what's the latest on the quake and the aftershocks?

Devin, like you said the 5-point-4 magnitude quake hit the northern region of Korea's coastal

city of Pohang at around half-past-two this afternoon.

People say the tremor was strong enough to have parts of buildings crack or fall off,

and could even be felt by residents in the capital Seoul, which is more than 300 kilometers

away.

While no casualties have been reported yet,... seven people have been lightly wounded, with

over 40 people rescued.

Nuclear power plants in Gyeongju and the surrounding areas are reported to be safe and unaffected

by the earthquake.

The Korea Meteorological Administration says there were smaller tremors of magnitudes of

2-point-2 and 2-point-6 just a few minutes before the main earthquake.

Six aftershocks followed for about 30 minutes... ranging from magnitude 2-point-4 to 3-point-6.

And just over an hour ago, another aftershock with a magnitude of 4-point-6 was reported

in the area.

This is the second strongest quake to have ever been recorded in Korea, after a 5-point-8

magnitude earthquake hit Gyeongju, south of Pohang, last year.

As the government is working to rescue residents in the affected areas,...

President Moon Jae-in, who came back from his 8-day tour of Southeast Asia this afternoon,

just finished holding an emergency meeting on the situation with his top aides.

We'll have the latest on that and more in our later newscast.

No countries reconsidering competing in PyeongChang Winter Olympics: Minister - Duration: 0:33.

South Korean Culture Minister Do Jong-hwan says no countries are having second thoughts

about sending their athletes to compete at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics.

There had been worries that a handful of European countries could decide not to participate

due to safety concerns over the tensions on the Korean peninsula.

However the minister explained that after visiting each of those countries, it was confirmed

that none of them are reconsidering.

He was also confident that North Korea will participate in the Games, although that decision

could be made at the last minute.

"Hey Farmees! Look at Rudolf, the red nosed reindeer!"

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer had a very shiny nose

And if you ever saw it you would even say it glows

All of the other reindeer Used to laugh and call him names

They never let poor Rudolph join in any reindeer games

Then one foggy Christmas Eve, Santa came to say,

Rudolph with your nose so bright, won't you guide my sleigh tonight

Then all the reindeer loved him as they shouted out with glee

S. Korea and Japan at odds over 'comfort women' deal - Duration: 0:48.

South Korea and Japan got into a dispute Tuesday at the UN Human Rights Council... over a deal

struck two years ago concerning the victims of Japan's World War Two sexual enslavement

of Korean women.

According to Japanese media, the two countries' delegates clashed over whether the deal does

enough for the victims, the so-called "comfort women" -- most South Koreans think it doesn't.

Under the agreement, Japan agreed to pay 1 billion yen, or about 9 billion U.S. dollars,

to a foundation to support the victims, now all very elderly.

The Japanese side said the two countries were working together to restore the honor and

dignity of the victims and that much is being done to heal the wounds.

The Chinese delegation also chimed in to demand that Japan apologize.

Global financial Stability Conference 2017 - Duration: 2:34.

Back in 1997, East Asia was gripped by a financial crisis that pulled the rug out from under

the region's stock markets and currencies.

To discuss the best ways of preventing another such crisis, Seoul is hosting a conference

for economists, researchers and officials from the region... who made several recommendations

for a financial safety net.

Won Jung-hwan has more.

The Ministry of Strategy and Finance and Korea Development Institute jointly hosted the 2017

Global Financial Stability Conference in Seoul on Wednesday, looking into ways to improve

global financial market stability amid the current trend of trade protectionism and slowing

productivity.

(ENGLISH)

"Korea advanced the global financial safety net agenda at the 2010 G20 Summit, and this

is the only global financial stability conference on a regular basis".

Under the theme of 'The Asian Crisis 20 Years Later', the conference provided an opportunity

to revisit the policy environments of Asian countries during the crisis.

(STANDUP)

"Twenty years have passed since the 1997 Asian Financial Crisis.

At the time, the Korean economy experienced unprecedented difficulties, watching its foreign

debt-to-GDP ratio rise from 13-percent to 21-percent and then as high as 40-percent."

The conditions of the International Monetary Fund's bailout package meant Seoul had to

carry out tough structural reform, leading to the collapse of many banks and businesses.

According to a survey released by the KDI on Tuesday, almost 60-percent of the one thousand

respondents said the financial crisis was the most difficult period for Korea in its

history.

And, more than half the respondents think the 1997 Asian financial crisis had an adverse

impact on the economy, society and their daily lives,... with only 8-percent saying it had

a positive impact.

In order to prevent a repeat of the 1997 Asian financial crisis, the experts at the conference

recommended measures such as avoiding currency overvaluation, keeping adequate foreign reserves,

and securing access to regional and global financial safety nets.

Twenty years have passed since the crisis, but this conference shows the efforts economies

in the region are making in order to maintain financial stability.

Young Talents: Samu Castillejo, Villarreal CF - Duration: 1:53.

The Malaga CF academy has produced plenty of young talents as of late.

Rough diamonds who began to shine right from the momento they first took to the field.

One such talent is Samu Castillejo.

Aged 19 and having broken through at Atletico Malagueño, Samu Castillejo was given his debut in

the first team by Javi Gracia.

It was Matchday 2 of the 2014/15 season, at Mestalla.

Malaga lost 3-0 to Valencia and Samu, despite his best attempts, was unable to score.

It would be on his second encounter with Valencia that he found the net for the first time.

It would prove to be his only goal in a Malaga shirt,

but was certainly one to remember.

He became a breakthrough player in LaLiga that season and was chosen for the Futbol Draft 'Once de Oro'

that recognises the best young Spanish talents.

Villarreal CF shelled out 16 million euros for him, and he headed to Castellon to continue to develop the talent

he had shown at Malaga.

At 22 years of age and in his third season with the Yellow Submarine, Castillejo is one of the club's most

vital players.

A great start to the present season has seen him have a big impact with the ball at his feet.

China's special envoy to visit N. Korea on Friday - Duration: 2:28.

China will reportedly send a special envoy to North Korea on Friday... to talk about

the the recent Chinese Communist Party's recent Congress.

But because the visit comes after a series of bilateral and multilateral meetings among

world leaders,... experts think the main focus will be Pyongyang's nuclear and missile programs.

Oh Jung-hee reports.

Chinese President Xi Jinping's special envoy will visit North Korea on Friday... and is

expected to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

That's according to both Beijing-based Xinhua News Agency and North Korea's state-run Korean

Central News Agency on Wednesday.

The envoy, Song Tao,... is currently head of the Chinese Communist Party Central Committee's

department for international affairs.

It's the first time since October last year... that Beijing's high-level official will visit

Pyongyang.

(Korean) "The head of the International Department

of the Chinese Communist Party is a very senior, high-level official.

Also, Song Tao is pro-Pyongyang.

Sending him means that China wants to recover its party-to-party interactions with North

Korea... in contrast to how their interactions until now have mostly been carried out via

low-level channels."

China usually sends special envoys to communist states immediately after concluding the Party

Congress.

But, after this year's 19th Party Congress,...

Beijing sent Song Tao as an envoy only to Vietnam and Laos,... excluding North Korea.

Xinhua reports...

Song will inform Pyongyang about the 19th Party Congress that took place in mid-October.

But experts believe... as the envoy's visit to Pyongyang comes after U.S. President Trump's

visit to China,...

Beijing may be looking for an in-depth discussion with the regime... on its nuclear and missile

development.

(English) "North Korea and the U.S. had very different

ideas on how to enter into dialogue from the start.

So the Chinese government has been trying to mediate with both of them.

I think the Chinese government will probably reaffirm to North Korea that Beijing prefers

dialogue over any other measures to denuclearize North Korea."

The experts added... that China might have wanted to show the world that it's still proactively

taking part in the North Korea issue,... after it seemed for a few months that China couldn't...

or was not willing... to exert influence on North Korea.

Oh Jung-hee, Arirang News.

VLOG: my first weeks as a trainee on a ship! | Sandra Bury - Duration: 15:04.

DAY 1 - BODØ 16 OCTOBER

Hi and welcome back to my channel!

as you guys maybe can see, I have a new set up for this video

I am filming with my phone :)

this is a vlog, as you guys probably have figured out from the title

I am going to my vlog my first week as a trainee on the boat

this terminal is literally unattended...

I don´t know where I am at the moment

First of all..

I packed yesterday

it was a pain in the ass, I hate packing

It did not go so well..

I did not know what to pack, I have now idea what kind of clothes I need on that boat

And guys when I walked outside to get here, the wind was so strong..

that I thought it would fly both me and my suitcase on deck

as i said I don´t know where I am, and I also don´t know if this is the right place to be atm

I am sure I´ll figure it out soon

Yess, I was sitting in the wrong place guys. And I had to walk 400 m to get to the right place --

-- I walked 400 m... this is not possible.. for real

so..

thank you Bodø, I know you´re crying because I am leaving you for three weeks but..

yeah..

so

this is my cabin

Im gonna live here for the next three weeks

that´s..

... cool.

I have to change clothing

They got me the wrong shirt

this is actually a waiters shirt..

I just got done with the first part of my first work session

It was fine.

There are so high waves on the sea right now... I think we´re gonna die:)

so yeah, It is going fine so far

Let´s see what´s my opinion going to be after one week here

One thing that´s very positive here is that, even though I am sharing the cabin with someone

Is that I can do this

And I have that selfie light guys!!

3, 2, 1..

´´This is where my *I am sea sick* fairytale started, already the first day:)´´

Day 2 - TROMSØ 17 october

Day two and I´ve already been dunk with ice cold water:)

This is a tradition here, and since I am a new trainee they had to do that to me:)

yesterday, I had to dress out as a troll..

when we we´re in Trollfjorden

I also had to put on ´´troll´´makeup, I literally looked like shit

I am drenched right now, I am going to take a shower

Anyway, I did not sleep at all at night because...

you here that?! it was ten times worse at night

so I heard noises of machines, waves and everything

so I did not get any sleep:) It is only day two..

... and i am already tired of that nothing goes my way

I really hope this is the last thing they are going to do to me..

I know I am a new trainee..

... but everything should not go beyond me

Sandra Bury just got her a new shirt

one more time

there we go

now I finally have two shirts

when one one them get dirty, I always have another one

I feel like I suck at this vlog thing

I have never done it before so it is new for me

I am sorry if..

... you guys are watching this without and pleasure.

I just got done with my first part of my work session today

now I am going to sleep for about 2,5 hours

and then

I am going to go back and work to 19:30

But first I am going to..

they have too much good food here...

the worst thing about these breaks between the work sessions is that

you´re sleeping, and when you wake up..

.. you dont want to get up.

and go up and work again.

By the way, I have the cabin for myself right now

My roomie went home today

I don´t have anyone to share the cabin with atm

let´s see how long it lasts

I am enjoying it right now haha

Day 3 - HONNINGSVÅG 18 octoberI literally went to sleep at 9 yesterday

I was so tired

and thats because -

- I did not sleep yesterday because of the noises so

When we´re in Bergen, I am going to take measures for my new uniform

And I will hopefully get it next time we´re in Bergen

Anyway, I just had a meeting with the head of the apprentice office

we sat down and talked about a few things, and then he started to talk about alcohol and stuff

and he was like ´´yeah you know that alcohol and drugs are forbidden on board´´

´´AND DONT GET PREGNANT´´

and I was just like.. you know what don´t worry I don´t think I am going to get pregnant through these two years here

I am actually going to be showed the security exercise on board

so when I hear the general alarm I am going to meet up at deck F

I died of being sea sick on day one, and day three I am also dying of being sea sick

this waves are actually unbearable sometimes

update: I feel like shit

i have to be back at work in 30 minutes but I think I am going to die

Everything hurts

fu*k you Finnmark you are such a bitch

I still feel like shit..

should have actually been back at work one minute ago but you know..

fu*k..

It is almost like i give up everything... literally everything

OH you want to be so near the mirror okaaay

Day 4 - KIRKENES 19october

Day four and I still feel like shit

I was such a mess yesterday

I went up to the reception at 19:00

the weather got worse

I got a sea sick tablet from the other receptionist

and I ate a little

but it did not help that much

they actually sent me down to my cabin two hours before my shift ended, because i looked like a zombie

the first thing I did when I got to my cabin was to puke:)

that is chill:))

and then I just fell asleep.. I just feel like-

- I want to go home right now.

I this will get better

because if it is like this the whole time, then I don´t know if I am gonna make it through this

I am actually gonna be a housekeeper today

so I am going to clean some cabins today

I am actually excited for how much i like myself there

I hope I am not gonna get as sea sick today as I was yesterday:)

because that was terrible

I am going to try these

I hope they work!!

If they don´t - I am fu*ked. and then I have to buy the tablets they sell here, but they say that you get so tired of them so..

lets just hope the best

I just got done woth being a housekeeper

the time went by so damn fast

and suddenly I was done and was like omg am I going back to the reception now fu*k

I am actually excited for next time

by the way, I got new trousers

this is also actually a waiters clothing

they have literally no reception clothes for me...

so everything I have on me is for the waiters..

maybe I just should begin to be a waiter here then:))

I am going back to the reception now and be there to 13:00

I hope I get to shower today

I did not do that yesterday because I was puking instead:)

Sandra Bury got herself a bike and went to the centre

to get some sea sick tablets

there will be no puking today

the tablets are working

these are working

there are some one hell of a waves outside right now, but I feel nothing

let´s just hope it doesnt get back at me right now

I GOT TO SHOWER

I am finally clean. There are worst waves then there was yesterday outside right now

but I am not feeling anything

everything just goeas forward right now, it went backwards yesterday

as you guys could see but I am happy now

I just found out that the TV is working

- when he TV has better quality then the boat:)

DAY 5 - HASVIK 20 OCTOBER

I actually have a break for 8 hours right now

from 14:00 - 22:00

then..

... I am going to sleep, chill and watch some TV

there are two hours left of my break right now

I have just chilled, slept, talked with people at home and watched TV

this is actually day 5

And I have already made a countdown on my phone for when I am going home

it is not like I am having a bad time here, I HAD A BAD TIME HERE

when I was sea sick a day or two ago

it goes forward right now, I enjoy being here

the time flies by. Tomorrow it is gonna be such a nice weather!

so I cant wait to take some pictures of the views

just like every damn one of us who works at these ships to every damn time

I am going to spam a little..

of nice views and beautiful weather

I lost my chopstick in here

okay, I thought it would be much more difficult to get it out

I thought I would get that vlog footage but nope

DAY 6 - STOKMARKNES 21 OCTOBER

yesss, day..... 6?

new day - new opportunities

I just got told to go to the ship museum

we´re in Stokmarknes

and I am going to get to know the history of ships

cant wait:)

yeah... just got done at the museum

walked a little here and there..

read a little here and there...

I have lots of new knowledge now..

*the irony here*

We have supper here at 17:30

and I was so hungry that

I went up there at 17:30, but none of the food was there...

and I was there alone like...

what am I going to do now

omg I dont know when to go up there again now

it was 10 minutes ago..

maybe its ready now..

I didnt know what to do when I was up there so I just took a glass of water and got back to my cabin again..

I went back up, the food was ready, I ate

I was the very first one to eat:)

I am going back to work now 18:30 and then I am done 22:30

and then I am beginning at 9 am tomorrow

I have already been here for almost a week

thats cool!

DAY 7 - NÆRØY 22 OCTOBER

I just found out that my vlog game is not strong

the clock is 20:10 and this is the first time I am vlogging today..

But this is day 7 which means that this is the last day of this vlog video

Nothing excited happened today, maybe that´s why I havent vlogged

I am done with my shift at 22:00

and then all the employees are gonna play BINGO

I hope I win..

I am not that lucky in games so let´s just hope the best

as a summary:

this first week at the boat has been very very good

I have been positively surprised, i thought I would be so tired of it all and wanting to go home

but it is actually totally ok to be here

it is not like. I WANT to go home.

I feel like 3 weeks on the boat is perfect, it is not too much and not too little

I hope you guys liked the video!

feel free to give it a thumbs up

and I will see you in the next one!

peace out

UN panel condemns North Korea for missile launches and human rights abuses - Duration: 2:07.

A United Nations panel has condemned North Korea for using resources to fund its weapons

programs while its people go hungry.

The resolution was welcomed by South Korea,... and will be put up for a full-floor vote during

the next General Assembly session in December.

Kwon Jang-ho reports.

The UN Third Committee,... which oversees humanitarian issues,... adopted a resolution

on Tuesday calling on the regime to put an end to its human rights violations.

The committee also added new emphasis... on the need to restart family reunions... of

those separated by the Korean War.

The resolution also includes providing foreign detainees with access to diplomatic missions

in the country,... as well as any other arrangements to "confirm their status and communicate with

their families."

Currently, there are six South Koreans and three Americans detained in the North... who

are not granted those rights.

The latest resolution marks the 13th consecutive year... in which the panel has adopted a text

denouncing North Korea's human rights situation.

It cited a UN Commission of Inquiry's report from 2014... that details the regime's record

of arbitrary detention, torture and public executions... among other abuses.

The resolution also called for those responsible... including North Korea's top leadership...

to be referred to the International Criminal Court... for crimes against humanity.

Pyongyang's ambassador to the UN, Ja Song-nam ... rejected the move... accusing the UN panel

of trying to overthrow the North Korean regime.

The envoy said... the measures were a product of conspiracy by the United States and its

partners with hostile intent... before he got up and walked out of the meeting room.

South Korea, a co-sponsor of the resolution, welcomed it in a statement issued later Wednesday

by the foreign ministry.

It urged North Korea to make tangible improvements in the human rights situation, and cooperate

with the UN, as it did earlier this year in allowing a Special Rapporteur for disabled

people to visit the regime for the first time.

The resolution will now be passed onto the UN General Assembly... which is almost certain

to adopt it in December.

Nurturing Anti-Corruption Culture in Asia-Pacific Region - Duration: 2:56.

Governments around the world are working to stamp out corruption... and the negative effects

it has on political stability, economic development, and the well-being of their people in general.

Under the auspices of the Asian Development Bank and the OECD... governments in Asia are

working together to find solutions.

And this week, they're meeting here in Seoul.

Our Ji Myung-kil has more.

The three-day Regional Conference on Anti-Corruption Initiative for Asia and the Pacific kicked

off in Seoul on Wednesday... during which, the 31 participating countries exchanged approaches

to tackling corruption.

(Stand-up) "The so-called 'Anti-Corruption Action Plan

for Asia and the Pacific' was formally endorsed in 2001.

It has three pillars:… integrity in the public service...

strengthening anti-bribery actions... and supporting active public involvement.

The participating governments voluntarily commit to the plan to combat corruption."

During the policy dialogue...

Korea presented an anti-corruption law that came into effect last year...

aimed at preventing bribery among public officials.

(Korean) "The Asia-Pacific nations are very interested

in benchmarking Korea's anti-graft law.

Therefore, the government introduced methods to evaluate transparency and a system to assess

the level and impact of corruption... to countries like Indonesia, Vietnam and Mongolia."

The Asian Development Bank helps participating governments establish a mechanism through

which overall reform progress can be promoted and assessed by providing practical assistance.

"ADB spearheaded this idea way back 17 years ago and it continues to lead the way throughout

this initiative and in bringing countries on board to the anti-corruption fight.

Throughout the year, there are initiatives and other smaller groups that are launched

as a result of this annual conference."

The OECD's Anti-Bribery Convention also establishes legally binding standards... criminalizing

the bribery of foreign public officials in international business transactions.

"We put peer pressure on countries and in some cases we can be much more proactive when

you have reforms that are in the byline in a country.

We can comment on draft clauses in the name of the whole working group on anti-bribery,

so we send letters to governments."

The ADB and OECD hope the conference will help policymakers, civil society and business

sector representatives assess progress and exchange ideas to help fight corruption.
