How To Surrender The Ones You Love

I learned how to surrender in love when I met my husband, Kevin.

The first year of our marriage he struggled with his health and we were unable to rely

on western medicine for answers.

He had developed an unexplained lump in his arm that no specialist could identify.

The biopsy results were foreign, and our only answer was that he had an unexplained virus.

His blood work appeared normal, however his physical body was deteriorating before my

eyes.

He was losing weight, complained of chest pain, dizziness, shortness of breath, and

muscle fatigue.

The night I surrendered was the night Kevin was at his worst.

Holding his hand I helped him off the couch where he was lying.

He was so weak he was unable to stand on his own.

Offering him my own strength, he allowed me to guide him to bed.

As I lay beside him I followed his shallow breath.

Unable to leave his side I heard the voice of fear, �What if he takes his last breath

tonight?

I must stay awake so that if that happens I can somehow intercede�.

This had been our bed time routine, but this night in particular broke me.

I could no longer hold it together or cry behind closed doors, it was time to surrender.

I turned to God, the creator for strength.

I recognized that this entire situation was out of my hands, and my prayer became �teach

me how to surrender, I�m listening�.

The answer came to me in four steps:

Let go of attachment

When I let go of attachment I began to recognize that Kevin is a gift.

He is not mine, I do not own him.

He has his own destiny and I am blessed enough to walk beside him on this journey.

Every day I get to share with this beautiful soul I now cherish in my heart.

Remain present

The future is something impossible to hold and solely belongs to God.

When we allow fear and worry to consume us we are trying to live in the future.

By staying present I could remind myself, Kevin is here right now.

He is breathing, he is talking to me, and we are looking for answers.

When worry would creep in I would remind myself to surrender.

Trust

I began to root in the Universal truths I had already experienced.

What I know to be true is that when God closes a door he opens a window.

When I looked back at my past I realized that every loss I experienced, whether it was a

change in location, career, or even past relationships, the change always led me into a better experience.

Everything in life, no matter how hard it can seem at the time happens for the highest

and greatest good of all.

The Universe is on our side.

Remain in gratitude

When I remained in gratitude I could divert my attention away from fear.

I had the power to raise my vibration by focusing on what was working.

I would focus on the joy and awareness that Kevin brought into my life daily.

I would allow myself to become enveloped in the love we had for each other.

I had waited my entire life for Kevin, and I wanted to enjoy every minute.

The lessons of surrendering in love have been the most challenging lessons to learn.

I can happily say that when I surrendered Kevin�s health began to improve.

I was guided to the right practitioner through a dream, and this homeopathic doctor was able

to see what western medicine could not.

I continue to practice these four tools of surrender in every area of my life.

I am grateful for the soul lessons of this experience and it is my intention that you

may find peace through surrender as well.

New Study Finds Marijuana Users Are Happier and

More Successful in Life

Shattering the stereotype of the lazy pothead, new research suggests cannabis users are actually

more satisfied, more successful, and even more likely to volunteer in their communities

than their nonsmoking counterparts.

Last week, the Independent described to its readers how the research was carried out:

�The study, conducted by market researchers BDS Analytics, surveyed consumers and abstainers

across a wide variety of mental, social and financial factors.

These included life satisfaction levels, attitudes towards parenting and employment data.

�The survey analysed extensive data from two US states that have voted to legalise

the sale of cannabis � California and Colorado.�

Among other surprising findings, researchers discovered that weed consumers make significantly

more money than those who abstain, with Californians who use the plant earning nearly $24,000 more

a year.

This could be related to the fact that 20 percent of California pot consumers hold a

master�s degree while only 12 percent of non-smokers in the state can say the same.

Researchers found a similar situation in Colorado, where 64 percent of cannabis users have full-time

jobs versus 54 percent of abstainers.

Given those numbers, perhaps it�s not surprising that weed consumers in the state generally

feel better about their personal lives than non-smokers.

Marijuana consumption is also associated with healthier habits and a more active social

life, researchers for BDS Analytics found.

In Colorado, for instance, 36 percent of smokers described themselves as �very social people,�

compared to 28 percent for those who avoid the plant.

Additionally, in both Colorado and California, those who consume cannabis enjoy outdoor recreation

at significantly higher rates.

Perhaps the most surprising discovery, however � given the cliched image of the slacker

on the couch eating Cheetos and watching reruns of Family Guy � is that users tend to be

more generous with their time.

Nearly 40 percent of California�s weed enthusiasts volunteer in their communities, researchers

found, whereas only 25 percent of abstainers have decided to do the same.

In a press release, head of consumer research for BDS, Linda Gilbert, says all these data

points lead to a very real and increasingly apparent conclusion:

�Cannabis consumers are far removed from the caricatures historically used to describe

them.�

if he doesn't have his little feelers?

DR LYDIA GRAY: Yeah.

SARAH: So this one I think is a painful question.

DR LYDIA GRAY: I think painful.

And that's going to be on a horse by horse basis.

I do like to pull manes.

I will tell you that the horse I have now,

his mane is very different thickness from--

SARAH: You and me both.

DR LYDIA GRAY: So the end I don't pull,

the wither third, and the poll third I don't pull,

but the middle third I have to.

SARAH: Yeah, Cody's very top heavy, not Newman.

DR LYDIA GRAY: Oh, but he's Quarter Horse, right?

SARAH: Yeah.

DR LYDIA GRAY: OK.

So what do I do in the middle third--

well, on the ends--

is I use a SoloComb.

SARAH: Because you're not trying to thin it out.

DR LYDIA GRAY: I'm not trying to thin.

I'm just trying to shorten it in a way that doesn't look blunt.

And I love this thing.

It's got a little blade in here to protect it.

You just-- well, that tells you how to do it,

but you just tease the hair up and pull it,

then you push this thing and it razors it off very nicely.

And you just keep doing that until it

is the length you want.

So I like that.

I have not used this.

This is the SoloRake.

It's got a protective cover-- cause wow.

Yeah, so people like this as well.

I know you can scissor vertically--

a mane looks good.

SARAH: That's how I do my bangs.

DR LYDIA GRAY: Do you?

SARAH: Yeah.

DR LYDIA GRAY: Your own bangs?

SARAH: I do.

DR LYDIA GRAY: OK.

You might want to try this.

SARAH: I do.

It's worth a shot, right?

DR LYDIA GRAY: So it's up to you and why you're

doing it and your own horse.

Some of them really don't like it

and you're compelled to find a different method of pulling.

Others don't mind.

I personally trained mine that--

I'm like, I got to pull your mane

for braiding and other purposes, so it's got to be.

We've got we've got to figure this out.

And so what we did was I used a clicker and a treat--

and there's a blog that I wrote about this.

But basically I just said, head down gets a treat.

And then towards the end of his life, my thoroughbred--

I could not walk past him that he would not drop his head

and go, don't you want to pull my mane?

Because there was a peppermint at the end.

Now, Newman can't have peppermints,

but he has SmartCookies

So both of my horses learn to not--

I don't know if they loved it, but there certainly

wasn't any head up or moving away

or other expressions that they didn't care for it.

The treats made it worthwhile.

SARAH: It's all about that trade-off.

DR LYDIA GRAY: It is, yeah.
