Malcolm Gladwell is an iconic figure in the Social Sciences for figuring out what makes

people move in a certain direction or gravitate towards certain products.

Gladwell saw the nature of what makes things go viral.

He broke everything down into a few specific principles that help us understand how ideas

move.

Here are few interesting facts from Gladwell's book

One.

Law of the few.

"The success of any social epidemic is heavily dependent on the involvement of people with

a particular and rare set of social gifts."

These people can be very influential in promoting a brand or even making unknown one to become

known.

Two.

Stickiness Factor.

This means a product or idea should "sticks" in the mind of a viewer or consumer.

Gladwell discusses many concepts that just "stuck" better than others due to the

principles that made them undeniably attractive to audiences.

Three.

The power of context.

People are sensitive to their environment and situations that happen within it.

This is why people relate to things that everyone is talking about, like news headlines.

Content creators should give people a surge to continue talking about things everyone

is talking about, just from another angle.

Four.

Find your tipping point.

In a day and age where content overload is rampant, it's a wonder anything gets noticed

anymore.

Malcolm Gladwell's points allow marketers and content writers alike to see the world

in a more simplistic way.

Finding that ultimate balance that makes our own little worlds "tip" can be done by

looking at the principles Gladwell lays out.

The Tipping Point was Gladwell's first successful book, which he adapted from an article he

wrote about the drop in crime in New York City and the social movements that made it

happen.

It's something that social media marketers spend their lives trying to figure out.

What do you need to do to get noticed?

Process Video #30 - Crate Paper - Duration: 7:11.

hello my scrappy friends it's Danie here coming to you with another Scrap Your Stash Process Video

Today I am making a layout off of some photo strips

that me and my son my oldest son took years ago

it was during a birthday celebration

it was the worst birthday that could possibly happen to me (laughter)

BUT

you could not tell it by the pictures

because he made my day worth it!

So, anyway, let's jump into this layout.

What I'm gonna do today is the packaging technique, of course.

And, with this layout, like

I just let go!

Like, I'm like not even caring what I do

I was like okay

if I have colors everywhere

it doesn't matter but I'm just letting you know I regretted it instantly

(laughter)

But it's okay

I kept pushing forward and decided to go on and figure out what I was going to do

So I took these strips and put some craft foam behind them to lift them up

because I didn't want them sitting flat on the layout

So I went ahead and did that and I will start pulling out some pattern papers

that I'm going to go on use on the layout

so I have no idea

no earthly idea what I want to do

usually I research what I want to do

scraplift somebody or something or whatnot

but lately I've been like

I want to scrapbook

but I just don't want to put in the effort

of getting ideas

so I've just been going at it blind

and really been sticking to the traditional layouts

like having pattern paper in the center

or pattern paper on the left or right

or the top or the bottom

like that simple format

no type of thought process in it whatsoever

just did different layering

so I apologize if all my layouts look the same

but, hey, this girl is just in the mood to scrap and get pictures done

because this picture right here these pics right here are at least seven years old

at least on Sunday (my birthday) they will be seven years old

so, yea, I just got I'm just trying to get stuff done

so anyway, what I'm doing is the tearing technique

which, you know is old school

if you don't have anything

don't know what route to go

that's always like one of the steps that I'll go

is just the tearing technique

So, at first I initially wanted all my pattern papers on the top,

but then I looked, and I said "Oh, this is not working."

I even tried

(as you'll see in a second)

I'll try to move the colors around

Not happening

and it's so funny (laughter)

how you can just change the view of something

and everything changed

so what I'm gonna do is

is that I'm gonna flip everything over to the right side

as you can see!

so then, I start, you know, maneuvering my photos

and I just decide that I'm just gonna do the tearing technique on everything

and this is of course after I adhere everything

but I'm gonna go ahead and adhere that polka dot paper

and then I'm gonna place the green paper behind

or underneath that

and then I realize that

yea, I wasn't thinking that through to thoroughly

and so I'm gonna have to cut some of that blue off

because it just extended too far over for my liking

so I just cut it down just a little bit

and I'm gonna position it where I want it.

So, everything's good to go

but I decide that I'm gonna to do the tear the top piece

so everything can be uniform

And here I go,

doing my quotations,

like you guys can see me

Like..you can't see what I'm doing with my hands.

(laughter)

So, anyway,

I'm gonna go ahead and position everything

and today, I am, for embellishment purposes

I am primarily using the Oasis collection

So, yes, I'm gonna go ahead and cut off

all the excess pieces

on all sides

just so

you know I have to have an immediate visual

when it comes to

putting my pages together

So, yea, I'm good to go with where I want everything to be

so, now, I'm gonna start pulling out embellishments

So I pull out some

that one butterfly, which doesn't make it on the layout

I pulled out...just I mean like every piece

from ephemera I still have leftover of the Oasis

I pulled out that piece from the Gather collection

but it doesn't make it

That piece from the Bloom, and that Wonder

That Wonder doesn't make it.

That Bloom piece does make it.

That "2" is from the Studio Calico kit

Both the "2" and the heart

(That I just placed down)

are from a Studio Calico

AND

Yea, what you see now

(minus the feather I'm trying to place in there now)

Everything you see now is going to make it on the layout

So, I'm gonna go ahead and put some white backing

because I just felt like it was getting lost

without anything behind it.

and now I'm just gonna go ahead

and make sure I have all my ephemera placed where I want it to be

and as you can see

I adjusted that small piece from the Bloom collection

So, since I adjusted that once piece

I felt like something was missing

I can layer for days, guys!

I still felt like something was missing

so, I decided to add this frame.

I believe it's from the Oasis

one of the borders from the Oasis.

I added that to the background

and everything is adhered now!

So, I'm gonna go ahead and add my splatters!

and then I do..I think I decide to doodle

Do I decide to doodle?

YEA!

I decide to doodle

So you'll see me doodle in just a second.

Doodle around the board

Just on the white side of the pattern..

or of the layout

So if you like this video

Give it a big thumbs up

If you haven't already,

hit that subscribe button

And of course, I'd love for you to

share this with your friends and family!

And as always stay tuned for close-ups

Crochet Beachy Keen Shawl - DIY Tutorial (It's Peachy Keen too!) - Duration: 7:17.

Hi I'm Donna Wolfe from naztazia.com today I'm going to show you how to

crochet my beachy keen shawl. The written pattern is on naztazia.com I'm using two

skeins of Red Heart's Ombre yarn for my shawl. And have you seen my new hook

holder yet? I received this beautiful organizer as a gift from my friends at

chetnanigans.com We'll use a size H hook for this shawl, scissors, and a yarn needle.

And be sure to click on the subscribe button to get notified of new videos

from me each week. To begin make a slipknot and chain 4. Slip stitch into

the first chain. If you need help with the basics of crochet, please see my beginner

crochet videos on YouTube. Chain 4 - that counts as 1 treble crochet. We're going

to make 6 more treble crochet stitches in this ring. We want these stitches a

bit loose so if H is too tight be sure to go up to an I or J hook.

Chain 3. Make 1 double crochet in each stitch across. Your initial chain will

count as 1 double crochet, so you will need to make 6 more for a total of 7 on

this row.

For the next row begin with a chain 4. That will count as 1 treble crochet. Make

6 treble crochet stitches in the same stitch.

Find the middle of the previous shell. Make one double crochet stitch in the

middle in this last chain stitch. Make seven treble crochet stitches in it.

...and seven.

Chain 3, make 1 double crochet in each stitch across. Remember that first chain

3 counts as your first double crochet stitch.

Next row, Chain four. We're going to make 6 treble crochet stitches in that same

stitch for a total of seven treble crochet.

Find the middle of the next shell. Make 1 double crochet in it.

In that double crochet separating the shells, we'll make seven treble crochet

stitches in it to create another shell.

...and seven. Make one double crochet in the middle of the next shell. And in that

very last stitch make seven treble crochet stitches. This creates another

shell.

Chain 3. Make 1 double crochet in each stitch across. Double crochet over all

the shells as well as those double crochet stitches in between the shells.

Chain 4 and begin your normal shell at the end. Then double crochet in the

middle. Do another shell here. Double crochet. Shell. Double crochet. And another

shell at the end. Chain 3 and make 1 double crochet in each stitch across.

You'll continue doing this for every row for a total of 20 rows. If you're on

social media you can also find me on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and Twitter.

If you want to add fringe onto your shell I like to cut 3 strands of yarn

each about 15 inches long and knot them like this.

And here is my finished shawl. To view this video in other languages click on

the closed caption link on YouTube and turn on subtitles. From there you can

How To Mass Edit Zones | Fleet Productivity - Duration: 3:28.

Zones in MyGeotab can have customized settings like visibility on the map, group assignments,

and types, and mass editing can be used to apply these settings and make changes to multiple

zones at the same time.

To navigate to your zones, select "Zones & Messages" from the left menu sidebar,

then Zones.

Here is a list of the zones in our database.

The mass editing option is available on any screen where there is a check mark in

the upper right

Click on the check mark to reveal options

"Select visible" will select all items in the list

"Select individual" allows you to select assets to edit by clicking on the checkbox

"Select none" will clear out any previously selected assets

In this example, we are going to be modifying zones by assigning them to a group, and changing

their zone type and color.

After making your selections, choose the "remove selected zones" button along the top of

the screen for mass deletion or "edit selected zones" to make changes.

The first option is "publish to groups".

We can either add groups to these zones' current assignments, or we can replace their

current groups with different groups.

In this instance, we will add the selected zones to the east group.

We can also decide whether or not the selected zones should be visible on the map.

If neither option is chosen then the selected zones will retain their current setting.

The next option is zone types.

After selecting "replace with", clicking the text box will give us a list of zone types

in the database, from which we can select one or more zone types.

"Indicate stops within zone" functions the same way as "Visible on map", but

this controls how the vehicle will be represented on the map when stopped inside of a selected

zone.

When set to yes, vehicles that stop inside this zone will be depicted with a star icon.

Under color, by selecting "replace with", we can select a color, as well as a transparency.

This is useful if you want to assign colors to zone types or group assignments.

It also serves as an indicator on the Trips History page, when a vehicle is stopped inside

a zone with an assigned color.

Finally, the end date is when the zone will stop recording interactions with vehicles.

Please note that if an end date is added, any rules tied to the chosen zones will not

be triggered.

By default, this is set to "don't change", but can be adjusted by selecting "replace

with" For more details about the options on this page, select the Show Help button

on top of the screen.

When finished making changes, click the save button, then "accept" to confirm.

You have successfully mass edited zones.

nice guy I'm a pretty good friend I feel like well remembered that grad party we

went to last year while I was away Brad Sydney a ton of messages about how

he felt at first I thought it was it was really weird after a while I realized it

was kind of brave and we started talking again over the summer and realized we

were going to be we're going to the same school once we got here we just kind of

hit it off what's he like so what's he like oh if

you guys never notice I'm actually like the friend type of guy more than like

the jealous or boyfriend ish guy well he's smart and funny and he understands

me something me sometimes they could be a jerk but when it's good is really good

a jerk wait how is he a jerk to you that's not what I would really say that

I didn't really read the bottom one there's probably something do she

usually is I just mean we get into arguments sometimes okay well if that's

the case and everybody's a jerk we're both very stubborn people so we

can get that we go back and forth on like I said when things are good they're

really good I guess that's normal it is normal I mean I guess that's normal as

long as you're okay what it is it's normal everybody gets an argument okay

it's the board the worst you know but especially early relationships like they

said they've been going out for just a few months you're going to have

arguments every once in a while I am we just get loud when we argue is all oh I

wouldn't treat you like that I just really care about you he sounds like an

asshole I just really care about you okay just

no I really care about you there are people who really care about you okay

Emily we'll remember that

listen I think we're fine I don't want to talk about this anymore I'm sorry I'm

sorry I just want you to be happy wait you chose to stop talking about it

saw saws is just oh it makes me lightheaded just seeing people getting

cut up so I'm torn between the bear the elephant and B Incredibles I think I'm

things are going really well that's just so great so how's everything so what are

you up to tonight what are you up to tonight

my name's trooper duper I'm never get to get over that tonight me and Brad are

supposed to go to a party but that's not happening we broke up last week well I'm

so sorry oh Emily I'm so sorry how are you it's okay it's just been really

weird since I'm okay me and him had the same group of friends

so things are messy oh I just feel really alone you know I'm here for you

well you know I'm here for you I'm that guy

I know and thank you for that I just feel really abandoned ah they were

really shitty friends they're a shitty friend they sound like shady friends

just call out her friends well the thing is if they are tore between you and your

and your boyfriend and you break up with your boyfriend and they leave you

because of that they're not really your friends because your friends will stick

by your side no matter what yeah I guess so but they're my only

friends and it would rather be friends with Brad like what did I do wrong oh

man now I'm starting to cry no I meant to say they're not worth it can i redo

okay whatever I'm so sorry em but it's their loss you're amazing

Oh No you're an amazing person escazu that's good it's a spite that's good

that's perfect that's something I would say right there

thanks I'm sorry for being such a mess I'll always be here for you it's okay em

I'll always be here for you yay Emily will remember that all

since.this oh yeah I was good Maggie thank you it's nice to be able to talk

about this I haven't really had a chance to vent yet I know you'd do the same I

no you do the same for me because we're best friends

well we're kind of best friends I want to ask you something about me fraid

you'll hate me after Ashurst your fake person promise you won't hate me I

promise I promise what is it I killed your dog Travis's party senior year

remember when we got bored and went for that walk you stopped at the playground

for a bit and just laid there and looked at the Stars

well why didn't you kiss me and it would screw things up I didn't want to screw

things up Emily we'll remember that I've just

always wondered how things would be if you did well how old are we really I

mean we just got out eyes can we're so College azide age I don't know it's kind

of stupid I guess uh I've wondered that too

I've wondered that too that way she's like oh she doesn't feel stupid because

I've wondered it - hey I have an idea maybe I could come visit this weekend I

could really use some time away from this school and we always said we would

visit each other what do you think yeah come visit please come visit I

would love to see you you chose to let Emily visit great oh man now I'm really

excited Oh what were your plan what were your plans with Emma Oh what about my

plans I'll talk to her about it I'll talk to her about it

you chose to talk to Emma so that's the right thing to do okay I just don't want

to mess things up sheesh I mean what do you want to do this weekend uh we can

just suffer on campus why not just whatever around campus you chose

some stuff around campus sounds good to me

should I bring my alcohol oh we don't need any I'm not really no we don't need

any you'd have fun without it you need you don't know how fun okay I'm so

excited to finally come visit yay very nice

oh shit I actually have to run but I'll see you this weekend okay of course by

that way well so I got way well chapter 4 2005 junior year of college

um Sin City now that was a good movie

it really has signed in hey hey I know it's been a while since we last talked

no worries

I've just been going through a lot lately everything okay is everything

okay guy yeah everything's fine most girls would just stop at that like

that so listen I was hoping we could talk about things of course what's up he

chose to talk with the newly well I mean that's the game you got to get the table

I just feel like things are weird between us

why have you felt like that no I don't think so I think it's because of last

year what happened last year things have been weird since I came to visit but we

just wander around campus with absolutely no alcohol and did stuff like

just fun stuff if you need please be honest with me did you plan that we

would hook up we hooked up I thought it was possible Wow so so that

that's the thing that happened actually I in retrospect it all just seems so

planned out it totally didn't I mean we hang up hung out with your friends

around campus and then we go back to your dorm to spend the night see I

didn't know that part I just want to hang around campus to do fun stuff with

no alcohol like this like that that's the

most innocent thing that was on that list wasn't it you must have known how

vulnerable I was I didn't know I didn't know you seemed fine you wanted to oh

don't say that I don't know Emily we'll remember that

okay I just yeah gee I don't know do you regret coming to visit you chose

to ask about her regrets I don't know if every bitter bad no I don't regret it

bull then was it just happened really a lot happened really quickly it just made

me feel differently in a bad way differently in a bad way

no not bad just different I don't know are we still friends we could still be

friends right yeah at least I think so I mean I didn't don't think I did

Women Small Biz Owners Burdened by Obamacare - Mollie Hoskins, Clinton, TN - Duration: 1:53.

With the new Affordable Care Act it has make some changes.

You know right outside Knoxville, which we're right outside Knoxville, this district and

region has gone down to one insurer in the last year.

And have had word that they're going to be pulling out in 2018.

So I'm not really sure what our patients are gonna do, what they're going to be left with.

Even though we do have more people insured it's the services and the people to provide

the services are not there.

Because they have narrowed the network.

In fact the one insurer that is there, this year, had a very narrow network.

That only allowed two chain pharmacies to provide their pharmaceutical care which obviously

left out all small in the community pharmacies.

We had to challenge that and because Tennessee isn't a provider state we were able to get

back into the network with this insurer

which again allowed us to provide service but those people we were having to send them

to other places where they were having to wait 48 hours to get their prescriptions because

they were so overloaded because one pharmacy in a town of 70 thousand, the whole county,

they cannot fill that many prescriptions.

So that was definitely detrimental.

People are coming back to us saying, I can't get my medicine for two days, can you please

give me my blood pressure medicine to get it through until they can get it ready for

me.

So that was a huge change we say this January with the Affordable Care Act.

We did provide insurance for our employees up until 2014, until the Affordable Care Act,

and then we were just no longer able to supplement to the plan due to the expense of the premiums.

We just could not afford that, so that is something we had to let go.

Therefore that causes us to not retain the employees that we may like to retain.

It at times can make it hard to wait on customers because we have less employees to work with.

Talking Eyes Media: Multimedia Social Activism | Lynda.com from LinkedIn - Duration: 11:16.

(upbeat music)

- [Ed] I always wanted to disappear as a photographer.

That approach to photography has really informed

an aspect of my work now for 40 years.

- [Woman] I'm a word person.

I hear a story.

I hear words rearranged,

whether I'm editing or someone else,

I can hear,

oh, you need to move that passage up here

and this passage down there.

That's all in the writing.

I hear it.

Talking Eyes Media is a non-profit production company

and we produce documentary films,

exhibitions,

photo essays,

pretty much anything that's visual media

and that draws on everything

from words to pictures to video.

We're telling stories about positive social change.

So, we're telling the stories of people

who have invested their lives in fixing problems.

- It is a vehicle to activism.

It's a vehicle to making a difference.

To open their eyes up to something,

to change the way they think.

That to me is thrilling.

- I think I was born a writer.

I was always keeping journals as a kid.

I loved writing.

I always saw it as my main means of expression.

I think I really found my passion for reporting

when I started to look into these issues

around ecotourism and development.

So, that really launched my career writing.

- I moved to San Francisco,

unwittingly I became a Silicon Valley photographer.

So, I was working for Time and Newsweek

and all the big magazines

but I was photographing Steven Jobs

and Bill Gates and the head on Intel.

And one day, I woke up after maybe five, six years of this,

where I'm making more money than I expected

and traveling and being published,

all the things that are "success"

but I realized,

I was not miserable

but this isn't what I wanted to do with my work.

This isn't why I wanted to be a photographer.

I wanted to be a story teller.

(upbeat music)

But if I continued on the route I was going,

I might be richer today

but I would have completely turned my back

on what my true goals were in doing this work.

So, I took control of my destiny

and I spent three years going back and forth

to Northern Ireland.

From the very beginning I knew you had to invest

in your own work.

This is the only way to not only get ahead

but that's where your greatest work was going to come from

because it's coming from your heart,

it's coming from your gut and your soul

and it was like that's where I found my voice.

Visually, for the first time,

I was making pictures and going,

"Wow, there's something here now,"

and that was what changed everything.

After that,

I got my first assignment

from National Geographic Magazine.

All of a sudden,

I was now how I had wanted to be

but I had to go through that other stage,

if you like, or process.

- When I met Ed,

I was working on a film about Malaysia

and a road that was being built through a primary tract

of rainforest in order to facilitate tourism

and I was interested in looking

at the potential detrimental effects of carving a road

through the center of a primary rain forest

and then Ed and I started working on stories together.

Because of the digital revolution,

we were able to buy our first digital video camera

and get Final Cut Pro

and all of a sudden this world opened up to us

to take what we did and translate it into moving image.

- Julie and I began Talking Eyes Media in 2002

and we could already see the inklings

of how the digital revolution

was changing our profession of print media.

I don't think we realized quite what was coming.

- Multi Media as a concept was percolating

and we were really on the foreground

of seeing that opportunity.

We had this skill set between the two of us

that was able to take visual imagery and script

and fuse it together

and be able to edit something comprehensive.

- Without Julie,

none of this would exist,

I'd just be a humble photographer, probably.

Having partner and a collaborator

who has the set of skills that I don't have,

it's a beautiful mix.

- We did a long term project called Aging in America

and that was seven years of field work,

looking at stories around what it means to grow old

and how society is changing as the demographics change.

We had very modest goals in the beginning

that we would have an exhibition of Ed's photographs

and then we would have screens at the exhibition

where you'd get to see the person in the photograph,

come to life,

speaking to you about some topic of interest.

It just dawned on me,

I've got all this footage,

surely I can produce a film.

I taught myself Final Cut

and we made a one hour film

that ended up going on PBS stations nation wide.

When I saw that,

I realized how much was possible.

What I love about what we're able to do,

we're always experimenting.

So, we work in film,

we work in photography,

we work in text

and now we're doing interactive.

We're very flexible

and that's what keeps it exciting and engaging.

- So, its not just about doing a book

or doing a bunch of great photographs.

We're doing film.

That is was really looking at each project

and each issue

and figuring out well what media do we want to create.

- As exciting as a time as it is,

in terms of self-publishing,

I think you always have to be thinking about

how do I find my audience?

And there are multiple audiences.

They are not the same.

I don't think any of it is really far removed from writing.

There's very little that doesn't

have some sort of accompanying explanation.

There are things that a written piece can tell you

that a visual can't

but if you're working like we do,

where everything is working together,

where there are many ways to enter that story,

then the text is nearby,

the text is going to tell you

what happened on the edge of that frame.

- What I've come to understand now,

which I didn't at the beginning of my career,

was the importance of authorship

and having control over your work.

When I work on something that care about

and that I'm passionate about

and I believe in,

the work is gonna be better.

That shouldn't be a surprise

but for a lot of people,

they don't understand that

or they don't feel it,

they don't get that.

So, the way that you stay relevant

and the way you continue to do work

that you genuinely care about,

is to make proposals,

is to write or know someone

or marry someone who writes.

So that way, you can keep pushing ideas out.

As long as you keep pushing ideas out,

the success rate is not high

but you don't need it to be high.

Just a few times a year

and then you're in good shape.

That means the thing's you're working on

are things you really care about.

- Doing this kind of work,

it's made us who we are

and it continues to do that on a daily basis.

I think this work has that potential

to make you a better person

because it has you constantly challenging

what you think you know.

- I kind of came to this realization

that I was only going to become a better photographer,

if I became a better human being.

That maturation process took decades for me,

quite frankly

and the time's I might not have done something

I would have done 34 years ago

because I'm more concerned about my impact on people.

(soft music)

- I feel like there's a lot

of pain, fatigue in the world

and I think there's an opportunity to expose problems

while focusing on solutions.

So, you can do both

and quite frankly most journalism is around suffering.

It makes for far more dramatic and provocative reporting.

Far less is focused on solutions and positivity.

I feel like there's a great opportunity

and I think people are starved for it.

(upbeat music)

It's so hard to measure how impact minds.

That's the hardest thing,

we can measure how many hits you got,

how many eyeballs on a broadcast,

all that kind of stuff,

how many shares.

Those things are all great

because they're empirical evidence

that something happened

but you don't really know what happened.

You don't really know,

did somebody care,

did they take action?

Every time I head somebody took action,

that to me is the real evidence that we succeeded.

20 ADRORABLE AND DISTURBING ANIMAL DATING RITUALS - Duration: 9:30.

Hey welcome back.

There are all these dating sites popping up everywhere.

Well, let me tell you – humans just need to make like animals and follow some of these

adorable yet distributing rituals and they shouldn't have any issues getting the perfect

date.

1.

Adelie Penguins

Adelie Penguins might just win the prize for the most considerate animal mate with the

males habit of collecting rare rocks to present to the object of their adoration.

The female then uses the rocks to line her nest.

2.

Albatross

The albatross takes a different approach performing an amazing dance, preen, dance, beak point,

repeat ritual so synchronized it looks like a pair of albatross have reheresed their moves

in a style only seen in major broadway productions.

3.

Anglerfish

The anglerfish dating deal is just not quite right.

See, male anglerfish are much smaller than the female and once they find a female they

like, the use the well-known anglerfish teeth to latch on – like actually take a bite

– and fuse with the female, forever.

Over time, the male can actually fuse to the female meaning once a male chooses his mate,

she's stuck with him for life.

4.

Birds of Paradise

When a male Bird of Paradise finds an attractive mate, he shows off his ornamental feathers

in an amazing dance performance that actually gives the female a lot of information about

whether he'd be a suitable mate.

See, the color and quality of the male's feathers give clues about his health.

While these birds are known for their amazing dance moves, dancing isn't a natural ability.

Males begin practicing when they are young so when they are old enough to find a female,

they are able to dance to perfection which is totally necessary because if a female bird

of paradise doesn't think the routine is good enough, she watches a different bird dance.

5.

Bowerbirds

Male bowerbirds can't get by with a stunning dance like some other bird species.

They have to build to impress their chosen one.

Males use sticks to build a two-sided structure known as a bower often decorated with brightly

colored bits of flowers, leaves, and human debris which the female then inspects.

Carefully.

The female decides if the male will be a good provider and good daddy based on the beauty

and durability of the bower.

If its rickety or ugly – she moves on.

In fact, the competition can be so fierce its said male bowerbirds will fight, steal

and even destroy the bowers of other males in an attempt to ensure they have the best

bower around.

6.

Burying Beetle

The burying beetle looks for a date who is willing to bury dead birds, mice, and anything

else that might feed their young.

Parents will actually lie on their backs and use their legs like a conveyer belt to move

carcasses up to 200 times their own weight to ensure that their young are well cared

for.

If a male isn't willing to be a human carcass carrier then he's out of luck.

7.

Day Octopus

Day octopus like to keep their distance during dating.

In fact, when a male day octopus finds the female of his dreams, he extends one of his

arms and waves.

If she resonds, they attach and it looks as if they're holding hands.

How sweet except that's as close as they ever get.

Ever.

8.

Flamingos

A flamingo without friends has a hard time finding a suitable mate since flamingos perform

a ritual dance that involves congregating in huge colonies of 5,000 to 100,000 individuals

then moving in sequence to impress the ladies.

These moves can be anything from marching, honking, head bobbing or wing rustling and

often make excellent use of the flamingos long neck.

Either way, the dance continues until the flamingos pair off.

9.

Giraffes

Male giraffes use their impressive necks when searching for a suitable girl too but a little

differently than the flamingo.

See, when there are multiple males who all want the same female companion they will literally

fight by swinging their necks at one another until someone cries uncle.

10.

Greater Sage Grouse

Greater Sage Grouse group together when looking for a date too but they don't work together

like a group of flamingos.

Greater Sage Grouse from miles around all gather in a field called a lek.

The females watch as the males fluff up and fan their tail feathers in a manner similar

to a peacocks then strut around the field with a specialized air sac on their chests

inflated as far as it can go.

The greater sage grouse makes a unique popping sound with these sacs.

The greater sage grouse also rubs its chest feathers together like a cricket rubbing its

leg to offset the air sac popping.

Apparently the male with the best rhythmic pop and rub music wins the female he likes

the most.

11.

Hooded Seals

Male Hooded Seals work to show off strangely attractive pink balloon like sacs right on

their faces.

They accomplish this by closing on of their nostrils and inflating their nasal septum.

These balloon like sacs are bright pink and the hooded seal is able to inflate them to

show his preferred girl that he has the best color balloon.

The lesson – girls like pink and if you go into the wild to check out hooded seals

– don't wear a pink hat unless your goal is an epic battle for supremacy with all the

male hooded seals in the region.

12.

Horseshoe Crabs

Horseshoe crabs take romance to a whole new level, only choosing their mate once a year

on the night of the most perfect full moon they can find.

Each May or June, thousands of horseshoe crabs wait until the moon is full and hit the beach

to romance and pair off.

13.

Nursery Web Spiders

Nursery Web Spiders return to gift giving as a way of winning the girl.

The male finds a suitable treat and wraps it in a bundle of pretty, white silk to present

to his beloved.

The female weighs the bundle to just the males suitability for a date.

Sometimes, if the male is super hungry, he sucks the food out of the bundle and gives

the female nothing but a silk wrapped shell or even a silk wrapped stick.

Males need to be careful though because a female will divorce him immediatly if she

discovers her food gift is a little light on the food.

14.

Peacock Spiders

Male Peacock Spiders skip the food and gifts and just try looking and sounding cool to

attract the perfect girl.

The male Peacock Spider has a decorative abdomen that he shows off while strumming his web

to impress the ladies..

15.

Prairie Chickens

Prairie Chickens go for volume to impress their potential dates.

The males make a loud booming noise that can be heard from miles away while performing

a well-choreographed dance that includes lowering their heads, erecting their neck feathers

and inflating orange neck sacks.

They also drop their wings, point their tails and frantically stamp their feet.

I guess female prairie chickens expect the whole package out of their dates!

16.

Prairie Voles

When Prairie Voles find their perfect mate, they date their whole lives through.

A prairie vole couple stays together for live and they support each other much like your

grandparents do.

When a prairie vole is stressed, its mate will give it the prairie vole equivalent of

hugs and kisses until it feels better.

Not only that, they spend more than 50% of their time just being together and whoa to

any other vole who thinks to intrude because if a strange prairie vole approaches, the

couple will work together to drive them as far away as they can.

17.

Sandpipers

Male sandpipers have a special armpit dance they perform in hopes of attracting the right

woman.

See, the male sandpiper flapped his wings in a double-winged display that shows off

their silvery white armpits to perfection.

The beauty, or lack thereof, of their armpits is the deciding factor for the female.

18.

Tree Crickets

Everyone knows that crickets rub their legs together and make beautiful music to attract

the perfect mate but did you know that some clever male crickets have figured out that

biting holes in leaves acts as a sort of amplifier making their loves songs the loudest around?

Not only that, once the lucky male cricket attracts the perfect female, he actually has

the ability to secrete a tasty goo from his back to keep his mate fed and happy until

the tree cricket eggs are all ready.

19.

White-Fronted Parrots

White-Fronted Parrots are particularly adorable – well sort of.

They cuddle up and kiss.

We non-beaked folk see this beaky make out session as a little painful and apparently

the white-fronted parrot sometimes agrees because the male is known to vomit in the

females beak once the kissing gets to be too intense.

20.

Whooping Cranes

Finally, number 20 on the list of most adorable and disturbing dating habits is the whooping

crane.

These birds have some serious moves performing a dance that includes leaping, wing flapping,

head tossing and even object flinging in hopes of attracting the perfect mate.

I'm not sure how flinging strange objects gets the job done but it must be working because

the whooping crane population is coming back from the brink of extinction.

You know what.

Dating sites are a way better idea than I would have thoguth because some of these animals

are just weird.

Regardless, Don't' forget to click subscribe because I'll be back tomorrow with more

curious facts to share.

In the meantime, if you know something curious, tell me about it.

Maybe I can put it into a video.
