In today's video, I am going to share with you some braces money saving tips
Because braces are cosmetic procedure
So the insurance will not cover the expense
So you need to pay out of pocket
and the costs of braces range from $4,000 to $6,000

I am going to share how I save money when I got my braces
Now let's get started
The first and the most useful tip
is to get a cash discount if possible
People here in the US finance everything
From the most common car loan and mortgage
to fix car or even buy tires
and lots of other things, you can always finance
So if you can pay all cash upfront when you get your braces
the orthodontist probably would offer you a cash discount
when I got my braces
my orthodontist gave me a 5% cash discount
and that can save you $300 if your total cost of getting braces is $6,000
There are 2 ways that will qualify you for a cash discount
First one is to get a cashier's check from the bank
The second one is to bring all cash
If you want to enjoy this cash discount
normally the orthodontist will not give you the discount if you use your credit card or personal check
because there is a risk if you can't pay your credit card bill
or write a dishonored check
so make sure to either get a cashier's check or bring all cash
The second money saving tip is via Groupon
Groupon is a money saving website
It is similar to the "tuangou" website in China
My orthodontist has a special offer on Groupon's website
I spent around $50 to get the Groupon
and it was $1,000 or $2,000 toward my treatment
so when your pick your orthodontist, don't forget to check them out on Groupon
The third tip is sometimes dentist office has referral program with orthodontist
you can ask your dentist to see if he recommends any orthodontist
there might be a good offer for you from the orthodontist if you get referred from your dentist
but this tip could be hit or miss
sometimes, the orthodontist that your dentist refers to you might be more expensive
so please make sure to do your own research
the fourth tip I want to talk about is sometimes avoiding spending unnecessary money is a way of helping you save money
I got traditional braces
there are brackets adhesive on my teeth
if I don't pay attention to them and bite down hard food
the bracket might break
my orthodontist told me
she would give me free repair for the first three brackets that were broken
but she would start charging me if I broke more brackets after that
might be around $50 each
if I break another 3 or 4 brackets, that would be an additional $200
so please make sure to pay attention to your teeth if you wear traditional braces
and to follow the orthodontist's instruction
avoiding directly biting on certain food
make sure not to break the bracket unnecessarily
and that will cost you more money
