Korea's exports in first 20 days of January up 9.2% on year - Duration: 0:44.
Last year, Korea posted a record amount of exports -- 5-hundred-74 billion U.S. dollars
worth -- and so far this year the boom is continuing... thanks to shipments of semiconductors
and petrochemical goods.
According to the Korea Customs Service, during the first 20 days of January, the country's
exports rose nine-point-two percent on-year, hitting 30 billion dollars.
If the trend continues, January will mark the 15th straight month of gains.
Exports to China and Vietnam jumped over 10 percent and 50 percent on-year, respectively,
while exports to the United States fell six percent.
Imports went up fourteen percent to 30-point-one billion dollars.

In Call the Midwife, we so often have stories focused on new life and birth
And yet at the other end of the nursing spectrum

And I wanted to start this new series with a story along those lines
It's a simple story, it's an elderly Jewish couple
who've lived in Poplar for more than 30 years
And Ruth, the mother of the family is dying of cancer
which has spread throughout her body
You see a part of Poplar's ancient past, if you like
You see a part of the old Jewish East End
Painted in such a beautiful way for me
For me, I absolutely loved this story strand

The Gillens are of course part of a large Jewish community
in Poplar at the time
but who are starting to move out
The daughter in the story has already moved out
It's a sad thing, the breakup of a community
But to form new communities elsewhere
Of course the 60's are a big changing time for Poplar
They won't even discuss the fact that the streets about to be knocked down
We involve the Jewish community in our research
and indeed the Jewish community actually appear on screen
In a beautiful scene involving the Jewish mourning ritual at the end
and they were delighted that we'd featured their community
It's only our second Jewish story in all of these years
But it's also a story about demolition
It's about the tearing down of the old East End
And it felt very important to me that we featured that at the beginning of this series
So much of episode one is about change and moving away
Families breaking down and the Gillens are at the heart of that
