Waching daily Jan 24 2018

Ten years ago, Barcelona's progress in LaLiga faltered at San Mames.

Both teams were giving it their all, but a goal before the break from the youngster, Bojan, seemed to have tipped

the encounter in Barça's favour.

The pressure, however, got to Rijkaard's side in the second half, and a goal from Llorente deprived them of

two more points.

The leaders nearly suffered the same fate in their encounter with Villarreal.

Iker Casillas ended his run of 573 minutes without conceding a goal when Rossi put the ball past him

after a quarter of an hour.

Real Madrid then got back on the track thanks to a brace from a sublime Robinho.

Villarreal battled on and Capdevila got an equaliser.

Sadly for them, just a minute later, Wesley Sneijder finally settled the game in favour of los blancos.

When it came to exciting endgames, the match in the Nervion stadium stood out.

Sevilla faced an Osasuna team determined to cause an upset.

Poulsen put the Andalusians ahead in the second half,

but far from giving up Kuko Ziganda's team came back thanks to a goal from the youngster Kike Sola.

However, having conceded a penalty in stoppage time the side from Pamplona,

in the end, came away with nothing.

Real Betis had more luck in their visit to one of LaLiga's fortresses.

Paco Chaparro's side won away to Espanyol, at a ground where neither Barcelona, Real Madrid nor Villarreal had

had any luck.

The three points helped the green and whites escape the relegation zone and climb to a more comfortable spot.

At the Riazor, Miguel Angel Lotina breathed a sigh of relief after his team's win against Real Valladolid.

More than the result, the highlight of the game was the return to the Deportivo side of Juan Carlos Valeron,

the local hero, who had been out injured for a year and a half.

Meanwhile, in the El Sardinero stadium, the ex-coach of Deportivo, Javier Irureta,

had his first game in charge of Real Zaragoza.

His team showed a character that had been sorely lacking in the season up until then.

They came from a goal behind from Ivan Bolado to go ahead against Racing Santander.

However, Meme Tchite, who came on for the Equatoguinean, turned the game on its head

with a last-minute equaliser.

Pres. Moon makes special visit to public daycare, pledges to expand government support for... - Duration: 2:38.

President Moon Jae-in visited a public day care center this morning, promising to expand

government's support for parents with young children.

Our Blue House correspondent Hwang Hojun reports.

It was his first official policy-related site visit since the new year.

(KOREAN) "Good morning, children "

( ?)

(KOREAN) "Hello, Mr. President "

( .)

Under an initiative roughly translated as, "Changing My Life," President Moon Jae-in

visited a public daycare center located in northern part of Seoul on Wednesday morning,

meeting with the children, their parents, and some of the teachers.

According to the Blue House, National and public daycare centers in Korea are known

for their high-quality education in contrast to their inexpensive price, and President

Moon's intent of the special visit was to listen to the needs of parents raising young

children who are utilizing such facilities.

During the meeting, the President pledged he will not only continue but increase government

support for child-rearing.

He said he will triple the proportion of young children benefiting from public centers within

his time in office.

(KOREAN) "The government will have to put great effort

in the childcare sector, but the most urgent task is to increase the proportion of children

using national and public kindergartens and child care centers.

I have set a goal to increase that proportion to 40 percent during my term."

( , ? , 40% .)

According to the Blue House, that proportion stands at 12.9 percent as of last month, as

the Moon administration added 373 new public daycare centers since its launch, and plans

to build an additional 450 new centers every year.

President Moon stressed the budget for childcare this year nearly equals the country's entire

annual budget of the early 1980s; he noted the government has allocated over 8.1 billion

U.S. dollars for childcare alone this year, up more than 216 million dollars from 2017.

The liberal leader also pledged to improve the working environment for daycare teachers

as well.

(KOREAN) "President Moon emphasized the reason behind

the high quality of national and public daycare is the great treatment the teachers receive

as well as their guaranteed status.

He pledged to extend such support to the private daycare as well."

( " .)

(STANDUP) President Moon's special visit to a public

daycare in line with one of his key policy goals by boosting the nation's record low

birthrate, by showing his support to tackle the high cost of child-rearing and to promote

the work-life balance of parents.

South Korea welcomes Japanese PM Abe's PyeongChang Olympics visit - Duration: 2:56.

Japan officially announced Prime Minister Abe will be visiting South Korea for the Winter

Olympics.

Seoul is hoping to the decision will aid in efforts to develop a future-oriented relationship

with Tokyo.

Moon Connyoung has the response from the presidential office.

(Korean) "The governments of South Korea and Japan

have been discussing Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's visit to South Korea for the

PyeongChang Winter Olympics and we welcome Japan's decision to officially announce the

visit."

The Blue House remarks come in response to Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's announcement

that he would attend the PyeongChang Olympics in South Korea next month... after weeks of

speculation that the Japanese leader would skip the visit.

(Reuters 3100) (Japanese)

"If the situation allows it, I want to attend the opening ceremony of the Pyeongchang Olympics.

In 2020, there is the Tokyo Olympics.

I want to attend the opening ceremony of the Pyeongchang Olympics, which will be also held

in Asia, and cheer on the athletes."

Abe's announcement brushed aside concern that he would not take part due to an ongoing bilateral

feud over a 2015 agreement on "comfort women," a euphemistic term referring to the victims

of Japan's sexual enslavement of Korean women before and during World War II.

Under the controversial deal, South Korean President Moon Jae-in's predecessor and her

conservative administration agreed to "finally and irreversibly" end the decades-old dispute

in exchange for Japan's apology and contribution of a little over 9-million U.S. dollars to

a fund set up to support the victims.

The new Moon Jae-in administration declared the deal flawed.

New Year's News Conference Jan. 10, 2018

"Only when Japan acknowledges the truth, makes a heartfelt apology to the victims, and works

with the international community to make sure such history is never repeated, will the victims

be able to sincerely forgive them."

" , "

(Reuters 3100) (Japanese)

"We also want to hold a bilateral summit and convey Japan's stance on the "comfort women"

agreement, while also communicating the importance of the Japan-SouthKorea-U.S. cooperation in

maintaining strong pressure against North Korea."

(STAND-UP) To that end, South Korea's Blue House plans

to maintain its own stance on the issue of Korean victims of Japan's sexual enslavement,

but also closely cooperate with Japan so that Prime Minister Abe's trip South Korea trip

will lead to the development of a future-oriented relationship between the two countries.

How the two leaders work out their kinks and put their heads together to solve another

huge issue facing them - North Korea's nuclear threat - the world will be watching from here

on out.

Korean tennis star Chung Hyeon heads to Australian Open semifinals - Duration: 1:39.

Chung Hyeon continues to write new chapters in tennis history.

At the Australian Open the rising star defeats his American opponent to become the first

Korean tennis player to head to the Grand Slam semi-finals.

For a recap of the match and the road ahead we turn to our Kim Mok-yeon.

On Wednesday, South Korean tennis player Chung Hyeon beat American Tennys Sandgren in the

quarterfinals of the Australian Open, becoming the first Korean to reach the semi-finals

of a Grand Slam tournament, and the first Asian man to make it to the semi-finals of

the Australian Open in 86 years.

The match at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne... took two hours and 30 minutes... with Chung

winning 6-4, 7-6, 6-3.

In the Association of Tennis Professionals rankings, Sandgren was ranked 97th going in

and Chung was ranked 58th,... but the win is expected to push Chung into the world's

top 30 players, which would break the record for Korean men set in 2007 by Lee Hyung-taik

who ranked 36th.

At the age of 21, Chung is now the youngest Grand Slam semi-finalist in eight years, and

the lowest-ranked Australian Open semi-finalist in 14 years.

The Korean tennis star earned prize money of nearly 711,000 U.S. dollars for entering

the semi-finals, and some 40,000 dollars for the quarter finals which amount to more than

40 percent of his accumulated prize money before the games.

With the latest victory, Chung is set to face the winner of the match between world number

2 Roger Federer and 19th seed Tomas Berdych in his semifinals round scheduled this Friday.

If Chung wins that match, he will become the first Asian player to enter the men's finals

in the Australian Open.

Should You Fast? | Little Lessons with David Servant - Duration: 8:27.

Should you fast?

Hi, welcome to today's little lesson.

We're going to talk for a few minutes about fasting.

Fasting is abstaining from eating.

Sometimes it could be considered abstaining from drinking as well.

There's various degrees of fasting.

Perhaps the most common fast is the water only fast.

You abstain from all solid foods and just drink water and no other liquids or beverages

besides water.

That's somewhat of a pure fast.

You could go beyond that and fast both food and all liquids, so no solid food, not even

any water.

You wouldn't want to do that for very long, because your body needs to say hydrated to

stay alive.

You can go without food for weeks, probably.

The average person could.

But you can't go without water for weeks, or liquids going in you.

You could only survive a couple days, so I'm not an advocate of the total fast of no liquids,

no solids either.

But there is such a thing as a partial fast, where you can eliminate some foods.

Some people do, for example, juice fast, where they just drink juice.

Hopefully more nutritious and healthy liquids than you know, like soft drinks and so forth,

because that provides the nutrients that their body needs to function.

They can still kind of go about their daily business because they have strength, something

that you don't have after a few days if you fast entirely from food and only drink water.

You're going to feel a loss of strength.

So there are some practical considerations to think about if you're going to fast.

Fasting is certainly a biblical topic.

Jesus gave some instructions about fasting himself, and He said when you fast, don't

put on a long face like hypocrites do, so everybody knows their fasting, but anoint

your head and so forth and don't try to let everyone know.

Keep it a secret.

Fast in secret.

So Jesus didn't say "if" you fast, He said "when" you fast, and He's giving some instructions

about making sure our motives are right, and basically don't do it to show off how spiritual

you are, or how disciplined you are to other people.

Paul gave a little bit of instruction about fasting.

Not a whole lot in the New Testament, but he talked about husbands and wives not depriving

each other of conjugal rights, but he said unless by agreement you agree to suspend your

conjugal rights for a while, that you might devote yourselves to prayer and fasting.

That's definitely the main reason for fasting.

Fasting just for fasting's sake, from a spiritual standpoint, doesn't have a whole lot of value,

other than the fact that it does require some self-discipline.

Therefore, it's somewhat akin to the kind of self-discipline that we need in other things.

So for that, I suppose, fasting in itself is a good practice.

But the main reason that anyone would want to fast, from a spiritual standpoint, is to

be able to spend more time in prayer.

I would also include more time in The Word.

That's kind of a form of prayer, isn't it?

When you're studying and meditating upon God's word, that's communicating with God.

He's communicating with you His unchanging Word.

So to spend more time doing that, wow, that's a valuable thing.

To spend more time communing with the Lord, and praising and worshiping Him and seeking

Him is a wonderful thing.

If that means skipping a meal, then so be it.

Again, we don't have to think that fasting has to be some long, drawn out thing, that

every fast needs to be at least 40 days.

I would also caution anybody against trying to do a 40 day fast, because that can be medically

dangerous.

Not everybody can handle that.

In fact, the couple of 40 day fasts we read about in scripture, they had a supernatural

element to them.

At the end of Jesus's 40 day fast, scripture talks about how angels came and ministered

to Him.

Of course, He was being tempted by the devil during part of that time.

Moses, during his 40 day fast, he's up on a mountain in the presence of God.

So I just wouldn't recommend that.

If you've never fasted before then I highly recommend fasting, but don't try a long fast.

You know, maybe skip one meal and make it spiritually valuable.

Spend some extra time seeking the Lord in prayer and His Word, and see what happens.

Now I can tell you what's going to happen.

If you've never fasted before, you're going to go, "Oh my goodness, am I ever hungry!

I feel like I'm going to die if I don't eat something."

Then when you finally break your fast, after you skip one meal and then eat at your regular

time at your next meal, if you can wait that long, you're going to feel really hungry and

that food's going to taste really good.

But if you practice fasting on somewhat of a regular basis, it actually becomes easier.

I can't explain why that is physiologically, but it is.

Your body just can become accustomed to it, just like you sleep all night long.

You don't eat while you sleep, and somehow your body adjusts to that.

If you're a person who travels a lot, like I have done, internationally, you're messing

up your sleep cycle and you're also messing up your eating cycle.

You find you're overseas on the other side of the world, during the day time you're hardly

hungry all day long because you're sleeping during the time when you normally eat.

Your body clock doesn't wake you up for some reason, if you're able to sleep all night.

So it's actually easier to fast when you're many time zones away from where you normally

live.

I'd say skip one meal or fast for one day, to see how that goes.

It can be very difficult the very first time you do it.

It's going to take some self-discipline, and you're going to be tempted to break your fast

earlier than what you expected to.

But if you fast, again, on any kind of regular basis, you'll see it gets easier.

If you fast enough, you could fast for a day and hardly even miss food at all.

It's just the simplest thing that your body gets used to.

Once you reach about the third day, that's perhaps one of the harder days of an extended

fast, but maybe the third, fourth day, hunger leaves you.

Of course, you're very weak, don't have much strength, but you don't have those hunger

pangs that you had at first.

If you fast longer than two or three days, when you break your fast you need to do it

gradually.

Don't got to McDonald's and get a hamburger and milkshake.

Just sip on a little bit of juice, or take something that's easy to digest.

The longer that you fasted ... If you fast for a week, oh my goodness, you better be

very careful when you break your fast with just small quantities of easy-to-digest food

or diluted juices or something, because you want to be safe about that.

All right, well that's just a little lesson, a little lesson about fasting.

There's some more information at DavidServant.com, if you're interested in exploring the subject

a little bit further.

Thanks for joining me!

God bless you!

Movements of massive military parade seen near Pyongyang's Mirim Airfield: VOA - Duration: 2:49.

After designating February 8th as its official military foundation day... preparations for

a massive military parade have been detected.

But the CIA believe the event is more than just about displaying weapons.

Oh Jung-hee shares with us the intel agency's analysis.

Satellite imagery shows North Korea could be preparing to hold a military parade about

two weeks from now.

According to Voice of America on Wednesday,... satellite images of a plaza north of Mirim

Airfield in Pyongyang,... which were taken Tuesday morning,... show movements that would

appear to be for a military parade.

Soldiers could be seen moving in rows across the plaza... and hundreds of vehicles are

parked in a corner.

Vehicles are thought to have started massing in the area back in late November.

Mirim Airfield is where Pyongyang has previously held military parades.

And with the North having designated February 8th as its official military foundation day,...

it's widely expected that the movements are in preparation for a large-scale military

parade... on February 8th, the day before the Winter Olympics start in South Korea.

The CIA in Washington says...

North Korea will not stop at showing off its weapons... but will escalate... possibly to

an act of force.

Speaking at the American Enterprise Institute,...

CIA director Mike Pompeo said... the North has proceeded with its nuclear and missile

program at a very fast pace with tests more frequent and successful.

Pompeo said the regime's leader,... whom he called a rational actor, won't stop here.

(English) "The logical next step would be to develop

an arsenal of weapons, that is, one, not a showpiece drive on a parade route on February

8th, but rather the capacity to deliver from multiple firings of these missiles simultaneously,

and that increases the risk to America."

He stressed that North Korea's missile program is not just for self defense, but is meant

to be used coercively by Kim Jong-un... ultimately to reunify the two Koreas under his authority.

Experts in South Korea believe this is one possible analysis, though the possibility

of a real act of force is low.

(Korean) 00:45~00:52 + 1:17~1:37 "The CIA -- as an intelligence agency -- sees

the North Korean threat as an offensive one.

None of us know North Korea's true intentions.

The North says nuclear weapons development is for deterring an attack, but they can still

be used for a variety of purposes."

In terms of the possibility of war, the expert added,... unless North Korea makes surgical

strikes on the U.S. territory of Guam or on America's allies,... related actors will act

very prudently.

Oh Jung-hee, Arirang News.

MONT SAINT-MICHEL (Normandy) - Duration: 4:27.

The sand here still belongs to Normandy.

Not to the landing beaches,

but to Mont Saint-Michel's bay.

Like the Allied advance did on July 1944,

we've reached this impressive place

that every year gets more than 3 millions visitors.

Do you want to see it?

Mont Saint-Michel is a small rocky island.

inhabited for centuries and topped by an abbey

dedicated to St. Michael, which gives the place its name.

It's famous for the great tides that flood its bay

making this mount an island for a while.

Located between the regions of Brittany and Normandy,

during WWII, Mont Saint-Michel didn't have any strategic value for the Germans,

but it did have great touristic value.

Throughout the four years of German occupation

thousands of Germans visited the place,

even though its garrison only consisted of a few soldiers.

During the Battle of Normandy, this sector wasn't threatened until

the Americans launched Operation Cobra on July 25th.

Its main objective was to open a road towards Brittany

to fight the German army far from the complex Normand landscape,

made out of leafy hedges, known as bocage.

Operation Cobra,

entrusted to General Omar Bradley's First United States Army,

caused the retreat of German units in a few days

to the fortress cities like Saint-Malo or Brest.

On July 31st, American soldiers arrived at Avranches

considered to be the entrance to Brittany.

The next day, General George Patton's 3rd Army

was activated and took over, quickly making its way through Brittany.

Throughout this whole time,

Mont St.-Michel wasn't a priority to the Allies.

The German garrison surrendered, without shots fired,

to a group made by British journalists,

and their driver, an American soldier.

There seems to be no images of this curious liberation,

but there are some of the visit, a few days later,

of another group of journalists, this time Americans.

The author of these color images is Jack Lieb,

who we can see posing next to legendary photographer Robert Capa.

After weeks of covering the battle

these journalists were able to enjoy a day of sightseeing,

just like us.

We can confirm that these narrow streets haven't changed much

over the last 73 years.

Like we've seen today,

even if it isn't a place closely associated with the Battle of Normandy,

it's without a doubt, a suggested visit

to disconnect for a few hours

of the always tragic history of war.

You won't be disappointed.

And like it happened to the group of journalists,

while we've been walking around,

the tide has gone up surrounding the whole mount.

We bid farewell with this beautiful scene.

Until next episode!

Trump slaps tariffs on washing machines, solar products - Duration: 2:19.

U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order slapping import tariffs on washing machines

and solar panels.

Kim Hyesung explains how the move could deal a blow to some Korean manufacturing companies.

U.S. President Donald Trump signed a set of so-called safeguard measures Tuesday against

imports of washing machines and solar cells, including those from South Korea.

2266 (English)

"Our action today helps to create jobs in America for Americans.

It will provide a strong incentive for LG and Samsung to follow through on their recent

promises to build major manufacturing plants for washing machines right here in the United

States."

Under the measures, a 20 percent tariff will be imposed on large residential washing machines

for the first one-point-two million units imported, then climb to 50 percent for the

rest, with tariffs to go down over the next two years.

The tariffs on solar products start after the first 2.5 gigawatts worth of imports...

at 30 percent in the first year, and falling to 15 percent by the fourth year.

The move marks the first time in 16 years that the U.S. has issued such safeguard measures.

The administration of then-President George W. Bush imposed a safeguard on steel imports,

but it was lifted in 2003 after it was found to violate WTO rules.

(Korean)- "Safeguard measures can be issued when there's

a radical surge in imports that does great damage to a country's local industry.

But the Trump adminsitration's safeguard measure marks a shift towards protectionism.

It's hard to estimate how many U.S. jobs this could help create for now, but it will definitely

hurt U.S. consumers, who will have to pay much more."

Korean companies like Samsung and LG are expected to be hit hard.

They exported one billion U.S. dollars worth of washing machines to the U.S. in 2016, accounting

for nearly a third of the U.S. washing machine market.

And last year, Korean companies shipped 1-point-3 billion dollars worth of solar cells.

South Korea's trade ministry said Wednesday that it has called on the U.S. to hold bilateral

meetings to discuss the safeguard measure.

.And a day earlier it announced that it will file a complaint with the World Trade Organization

over what it called a violation of WTO provisions.

Kim Hyesung, Arirang News.
