Waching daily Jan 28 2018

This is a story about a time traveling boy named Jacob who leads a group of peculiar

children with supernatural abilities and Miss Peregrine, their teacher and caregiver who

is stuck in bird form, from Cairnholm Island to Wales during World War II to escape the

wights who are trying to kill them.

Among the children are Emma, who controls fire, Bronwyn, who has super strength, Enoch,

who can transfer life between things, Horace, who has premonitions in dreams, Hugh, who

controls bees, Olive, who can float, Fiona, who can control plants, and Claire, who has

two mouths.

When they arrive on shore, they only manage to bring with them a trunk that contains a

book of peculiar tales.

The wights chase the children, but they hide in the woods.

The children find a time loop at a nearby lake and on the other side of the time loop,

they encounter a hollowgast, a monstrous creature that likes to eat peculiars.

The children kill the hollowgast and meet Addison, a peculiar dog who is intelligent.

Addison tells the children that Miss Wren, another powerful peculiar, flew to London

to help other peculiars from hollowgast and wight attacks.

Addison warns the children that if Miss Peregrine doesn't get help soon, she'll permanently

become a bird.

Fiona and Claire decide to stay with Addison as the rest of the children travel back through

the time loop to go to London to find Miss Wren for help.

On their way to London, the children encounter a traveling group of gypsies.

The gypsies help hide the children from a search party of wights.

The children get to the nearest train station, but are captured by wights, except for Hugh,

who hides, and Miss Peregrine, who makes it on the train in the trunk.

The children are taken to a small cabin by the wights and are questioned as to the whereabouts

of Miss Peregrine.

Suddenly, Hugh comes back to rescue the children, summoning a swarm of bees to attack and kill

the wights.

The children then make their way to London by train.

When the children arrive in London, the train station is busy and crowded.

After failing to get help from any peculiars over the phone, the children head to the heart

of the city to avoid any hollowgasts and to find peculiar pigeons for help in finding

Miss Wren.

As the city is continuously bombed by the Germans, the children end up at a large cathedral,

where they find a time loop and meet Melina, a girl with telekinetic powers, Winnie, her

peculiar pigeon, and the Bone brothers, little boys who see using echolocation.

Bombs continue to explode around the children as they run away from two pursuing hollowgasts.

The children hide in a nearby house, where they meet two sisters, Sam, a peculiar girl

who can regenerate her body, and Esme.

As the two hollowgasts enter the house, a bomb explodes, killing the hollowgasts and

destroying the structure of the house.

The children are unhurt because they are wearing bulletproof sweaters and Sam and Esme remain

safe, though decide not to join the children to find Miss Wren.

Winnie the pigeon leads the children through another time loop, which takes them to a carnival.

After watching a sideshow at the carnival, the children walk to a building that is encased

in ice.

There, they encounter Miss Wren, who takes them inside the protection of the ice building,

and explains that she's been rescuing peculiars and hiding them in the building since she

arrived in London.

The children meet Althea, who has the ability to produce ice.

Miss Wren is happy to see Miss Peregrine, even if only in bird form, and says that she'll

need time to fix her.

The children meet the other peculiars in the building, including a clown, a contortionist,

and a snake charmer.

They exam a few of the peculiars in the building receiving medical attention and determine

that the wights are extracting peculiar powers and using them on hollowgast, which allows

these evolved hollowgast to travel through time loops.

The children decide to join in the fight against the hollowgast, except Emma tells Jacob that

when Miss Peregrine is revived, he should go back to his time and he reluctantly agrees.

The next day, when Miss Peregrine is about to transform back into her human form, an

imposter, Miss Peregrine's brother, Caul, appears.

Caul says that it's all been a trap and that the real Miss Peregrine has already been captured.

Althea is killed and the rest of the children are captured by the wights.

They are all taken through a time loop that brings them back to Jacob's time.

The children are loaded into a train car, but Emma and Jacob escape.

A sole hollowgast approaches Emma and Jacob as Addison appears and drags them to safety

in a phone booth.

In the end, as the hollowgast attacks them, Jacob speaks to the hollowgast in its native

tongue and it backs down.

[ REPORTAGE ] LA K-POP C'EST UN TRUC DE CHINOIS ?! [ ENG SUB ] - Duration: 10:56.

ioiHello people, today it's a special video

we're gonna meet KPOP fans and ask them some questions

Let's go !

Interview KPOP

How did you know KPOP?

I started with the japanese dramas

Next, I watched korean dramas

By listening to dramas OST

I really listened to KPOP

For me, it's thanks to the AOA in 2013

I continued to listen to KPOP more and more

Thanks to him

By the network, right ?

On the Internet / Same

Thanks to my sister

Thanks to a friend

A friend too

Each time, it's the friends ok !

Some people send me KPOP songs and I listen them

Next, I have been interest by this type of songs. I searched by myself

It's because of young people.

But I was already interested by Korean culture before.

At the beginning, it was more the J-POP because I watched One Piece

The opening was made by TVXQ

So TVXQ were korean and japanese. I discover KPOP thanks to them

I read a fanfiction on a Taiwanese's drama

Next, I started to watch Korean dramas. And then, I discovered KPOP.

She spoke a lot about KPOP to me.

By watching a video, I really discover KPOP.

It's her who initiate you, right ?

Yes

I spoke about KPOP to her during 2 years

At the beginning, she was not very interested

Next, she watched by herself a video

It was "Fire" by BTS

When did you start to listen KPOP?

Since 6 years

In fact, we all did together

It's her who initiate me

Yes, it's often thanks to other people

3 years

Since 1 year and a half

2/3 years

Since 10 years !

But I listen seriously to KPOP since 3 years

It's been 5 years

Oh nice !

1 year

3 years

Since 2013

One month

Since 2009

Right, it's been a long time. 2009...

11 years

11 years ? Waw, it's nice !

What is your favorite band ?

You are real ARMY

Big Bang ! I appreciate what you said

Oh ! A real fan !

Show that in front of the camera !

It's a true fan ! Blackpink aha !

Monsta X ! (the only band that he knew)

What do your family and friends think about you listening to KPOP?

In my friends, I'm the only to know KPOP

For them, KPOP is bad

My parents like a few KPOP songs but just a little bit

I'm the only who listen to KPOP, really

People don't believe me

Because of my age, they ask themselves if I really listen to this type of songs

They see that like something strange

For them, KPOP is all CHINESES

My friends and my family don't care about

My brother is interested by KPOP and this is cool

For them, it's like a common music. Not something specially strange.

My father listen to Metal and he doesn't care about KPOP. He tell me "Listen what you want"

Same for me

Haha !

At the beginning, people were laughing at me because they didn't understand why I listened to Korean music

while I didn't understand the lyrics

But with the time, they have accepted

But some of my friends

are more understanding than others

It depends of people

Now, they really accepted this fact because it's been more than 10 years

Yes, I understand It's cool !

At the beginning...

I don't know how to explain that

They consider you like an alien ?

Yes, a little bit, yes !

But at the end, our friends and family begin to be interested by KPOP

Ok, nice, it's cool that they begin to be interested !

They don't care about

They don't care too. But my parents think this is a little bit strange

They are surprised because my friends don't listen at all KPOP

I'm like a stranger. "Do you really listen it ? Do you understand their songs ?"

It's often how people's reaction...

They don't really talk about it.

Personally, I only listen to 2 or 3 KPOP bands

It's not as if my life was around KPOP

So, my friends don't listen only KPOP by me

I only listen to Big Bang. Next, it's my friend who makes me discover them

My friends and family think this is positive

It's cool if they think this is positive. It's a big step for KPOP !

What is you favorite KPOP song currently ?

It's Monsta X with "Newtown" and Blackpink with "As if it's your last"

I also listen to AOA

FTisland with "Wind", I think this is my favorite

Ok !

It's Winner

with their last album

Their comeback ? / Yes / Ok

One that I really love is "Monster"

"Monster" by EXO

Really good music

I love in this choregraphy that mix between the oriental and occidental gesture

We can see Michael Jackson and martial arts too

Only Monsta X currently

The Winner's comeback

Loco ! Maybe you know him

"Bling Bling" by IKON

You have nice tastes

Currently... hmmmm

Samuel "Sixteen"

I don't know if it's KPOP. But I often listen to Dean.

Ah Dean ! I really love this artist. In fact, it's my favorite Korean artist.

A song in particular ?

Bonnie & Clyde

Really good song

What is your reaction if your favorite band break ?

A member is sick in AOA, she's gonna leave

I can do nothing

Do you cry a little bit ?

Yes, I'm obliged !

They do what they want but I'll be sad

However, it's not as if they die

They will always exist

It's just bad because they won't do music together

Do you cry ?

Yees !

U-KISS is already broke...

I was a little bit sad. But I have the impression that all the bands have to disband one day.

So, I was sad but it's the game...

There is a lot of bands who begin

I listen all

It was already the case

with DBSK

They have been separated in 2

So, I continue to support the 2 parts

To me, it was as if they were never disband

Do you cry ?

Yes, at the beginning yes. We were shocked so...

Yes, we cried ahahaha

It makes me nothing, in fact

Nothing ?

No, because every member does his life by his side

Yes, but it's your favorite band. Do you cry at least ?

No, I think that every member has to take his way. At the end, it could be something nice !

I will find an other

You change to bands just like this !

No feelings ! It's really...

It's the industry !

Yes, if it happens like this it doesn't matter

Do you cry ?

No ! We're gonna bring some benefits to other bands ! AHAHAHA

I will try to follow each member

But I will be very sad

I know that fans hate this type of situation

But we see that there are solo artists that continue (after the disband) their career and do good job !

Thanks for answering

Thanks to everyone who watch this video and thanks to all the persons who have answer to the questions.

Don't forget to subscribe and thumbs up :D

There are some girs who were with us. They recognize you

Really ?

They said "he was dancing at Japan Expo"

[Part 1] How did I ship my Civic to Tsukuba ? Cost, paper, everything you need to know - Duration: 16:58.

Hey, hello everyone !

Those who follow me a little bit, know that this Civic went to stretch their legs in Japan.

On the other hand, what you may not know,

that's all it takes to send your car to the other side of the world

and to be able to actually drive it ...

So if you ever wondered how much it could cost, how long it could take, and all the steps it could take.

Frankly, this video is for you !

You're lucky guys!

For this first part, we will tackle the shipping and it's not a simple matter...

To ship his car to the other end of the world there are not 36,000 solutions.

we can do it by plane as the automakers do with the mules for example,

but hey, it's a little bit overpriced and not at all in my budget.

But above all we can do it by boat

and there by boat, there are 2 solutions

or by RoRo, or by containers ...

I chose the RoRo

But hey ?! What is a RoRo ?

That ! Is a Roro !

A Roro is the diminutive of Roll On Roll Off

in French, "roule dedans, roule dehors".

It's exactly like the huge car park in which I am, but even bigger!

in the sense that the boat that greeted my car could accommodate 8500 cars

it is more than 4 times the total capacity of this underground car park

it is the largest underground car park in the city of Metz.

Roughly, 8500 cars to give you an idea,

it is more than the total capacity of all covered parking spaces in the city of Metz.

all this to tell you that

for your car to reach its slot in that boat,

you need someone to drive it !

and this person on this boat is not you ! Of course !

it's not you who will drive the car in its slot ...

so that's why I had to take some precautions for the trip

for example, removing gauges, the stopwatch, I even replacing the steering wheel.

to put the OEM steering wheel

I had to put little instructions too

because hey, when it's a random car, it's okay,

but when it's a track car, it took you years to build

there may be some special things to tell the person who is going to take the wheel for the 1st time.

so it was the case for the civic, especially for the cut off switch, the water pump and all that

and especially since there was no handbrake, actually it was not lockable

I even put to tell you ...

a flange on the throttle that limited the revs to 2500trmin

so I took all precautions I could !

unfortunately, it was not enough!

that is, when we found her on the kobe port

the battery was dead

the two rear lights broken, and the rear bumper impacted.

so here it is, despite all the precautions taken,

it wasn't enough !

And NOW, you start thinking that containers is not bad actually...

But what is a container?

A container, is that !

And that, we already have a little more used to seeing them

So we can put a whole lot of stuff in it

you can put anything in it, that's how travel almost everything you buy

as it's made in China ...

And the main advantage of these little boxes is that no one has to take the wheel of your car.

You can even put a whole bunch of stuff, spare wheels, tools and even your luggage !

and travel with a simple binder

And as you can see, there are several sizes !

Actually, 2 main, 20 feet and 40 feet.

So in the 20 feet we put generally put only one car, but you can stuff things in it, as far as it safely hold together

and the 40 feets

and the main advantage of 40 feet is that you can put 2 cars in it !

and doing so, sharing the costs, and now that's interesting compared to the RoRo !

So it's safe, more affordable than the 20 feet, slightly more expensive than the RoRo

on the other hand you have to well manage the timing to be with the right person at the right time to the right place for the same direction.

So if there are people who want to leave on the American west coast,

let's keep in touch, I can be interested !

And precisely, price-wise, how much does it cost ?

Good question !

to trace the expenses engulfed in the adventure

we will start at the beginning

So from Metz to Kobe, you have to go through a port, and the nearest port

was the port of Antwerp

which is at 330km (205miles) away

so for that I was fortunate to have a truck that a friend had graciously lent me

it has pretty much limited fees

and the trip went really well until, HERE !

to the port area, the cursed area

so stressed, upset, excited, finally, a mix of all that and lack of sleep too ...

because I had not slept much the night before of course.

I missed this little exit, the number 10 there ...

the problem is that when you miss this exit,

you have to go

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaall around this

this, to come back

So you're going to tell me, it's f*ucked up OK, but not THAT bad either...

except that it's not counting on this little toll right there.

which cost me € 17 one way, € 17 return for absolutely, no reason !

So i were a bit pissed off

but it's part of the game tho.

so I finally took the proper exit to get to, ICO

And, what is ICO ?

ICO is the agent in charge of loading the car on the vessel.

There.

I was all happy, we had finally arrived

and so there was only to unload the car

and we were done...

finally, again, that was on theory

because once arrived with all my papers

Well, I did not have all my papers actually !

after making about 15 round trips between this office and this office and this office and this office and this office and...

and all the floors of this building there

I finally decided to make a call to the person I was in contact from the beginning

The one who followed my file from the beginning

I phone called him in the UK, and gave my phone to the guy in that little house, there

And in about 27 seconds it was cleared...

I still don't know what paper I needed

I steel don't know

But it was done, and at the same time THANKFULLY ! Because the truck drivers were getting impatient !

So I finally had the right to unload the car

in this area THERE !

But once I had unloaded the car here,

I had to get her there.

but for that, you had to have a special card...

and this card, you had to rent it here

so I had to go back here, not very far

Not so far, but it could have cost me 25€ if the guy had not had pity on me.

So it was pretty good

After unloading the car, we returned to Metz, everything went well, and the dice were launched ...

How much did it cost me?

It cost me about 80 € of fuel

34€ of unnecessary toll

1750€ of shipping to Kobe

And at Kobe there has been for a little more as we will see...

2 months later, and a lot of stress because the car had made a stop in South Korea

that the tracking number did not move on the map and I did not know at all what it was about.

In short, 2 months later the car finally arrives safely

and as you can imagine, we did not stayed at Kobe port, far from it ...

We lived in Hirakata

Not that far from Osaka

and to get the car, we had to do all that way !

there are roughly 123km (76miles) round trip

but I think it's the longest 123km (76miles) of my life actually !

I mean... Really ! Because was really nervous !

I remind you that it has been 2 months since the car was gone

I did not know at all in what condition it was going to be there...

We left from Hiraka

And 1st stop, the JAF

We had to go to the JAF to make my carnet de passage Translated

There, it was 9H42 in the morning

because we took a picture

at the Seven Eleven just there

right there, and it was 9h42

So That... took barely 20 minutes !

not even 20 minutes and it was done

so we say "Great !" it's going to be quick, we're pretty ahead of our schedule, it's going to be cool !

And that was the biggest bullshit I could think of at that moment !

after, we had an appointment at the agency, so the one in charge of my file.

to unload the car, and to park it to match its arrival with mine

so this agency was ...

at about 60km (37miles)

Here

exactly

where there is this beautiful crane

so when we arrived there,

It was 11h15

we left the JAF at 9h42

we made about 50km in.... lot of time !

that's where the crane was and we arrived at 11:15

so here I had a nice surprise

that i had to pay 90 € for the storage and the unloading fees fo 2 days.

90€

so then, we had to head to the customs !

the customs was a bit more far...

Here !

in this huge building, which is fairly new

because kobe suffered a huge earthquake in 1995 19951995 19951995 19951995 19951995 19951995 19951995 19951995 1995

all the buildings are quite new here

and so we went there, but we did not stay there for a while as ....

because it was not at all where we had to go !

so we left for again, many expressways and tolls

to get to the right place

and the right place was, much further

much further, not really actually

but when you are tired, jet lagged, very nervous, it's becomming too much !

so we come to the customs office

this time the right one

and then...

and then it was waaaaaaaaaaay too long !

so that people find the right stamp to apply on the Carnet de Passage

it lasted hours and hours

people there took turns

it was hellish

So we went to the Familly Mart to give us a little rest, it was waaaaaay too long !

after that we could FINALLY get the car back

after having moved to yet, another office

but nothing compared to what we suffered earlier

to meet the car in this thing, in the middle of agricultural machinery and heavy duty stuff !

in short, it was pretty epic tho !

it is here that we found the car in a rather sad condition

but hey, I was really happy to see her there!

she did not even start but ... Whatever !

and when we were finally able to get behind the wheel of the car, drive it and refuel it,

it was 2h32pm !

so from the agency office to that point, many hours passed...

then it was time to head to Osaka JDM

to change the engine oil, to fit its new springs,

to fit the gauges and make a full check up

fix up the tail lights

and that had a cost, because you had to move two cars

we had to share the costs, because there are plenty of tolls there ! Between Hirakata and Kobe

roughly...

90 € security fees, and 150 € toll and fuel

which brings us to a total of door to door (From Metz to Hirakata)

just for one way.

for the return it was much simpler,

I just had to drive the car from Hirakata to Kobe

where i've picked up the car

so I did not have to go through office agents, customs or anything like that..

the person who took care of my file did everything for me

I just had to lift the car...

to avoid additional costs

because it was too low and we would have to get a special truck just for my car

so to lift it up I had to go for special shims that I found in a DIY store

It was holding together with too bad quality bolts, it was a joke !

and frankly, on these Japanese joint bridge, I wasn't feeling confident at all !

I drove the car there, it was flawless

the staff there took many pictures of the car, it was nothing like the first time !

it was great !

so I we took 2 cars again, but not as much road as the 1st time,

Including tolls and fuel, I had for 90€ from hirakata to Kobe

From Kobe to Rotterdam,

I had to pay 611€ !

You heard well, 611€ !

From Antwerp to Kobe it was 1750€ !

which is quite a difference.

When the car finally arrived to Rotterdam, I had to bring it back to Metz

I still don't live on there...

so to bring it bag, there are roughly 426km (264miles)

that I've done with a rental truck which cost me 315€

and used 103€ of fuel

I'pick up the car without a single issue, it started like a charm

It was sweat as a Nut !

I could bring it home for 11h26pm exactly

the way back had cost me an amount of 1119€

and 2106€ to get to Japan

for a total cost for the shipping of 3225€

3225 € And will all of this, you cannot even drive your car there !

to be able to do that, you'll need other papers and few more €

but that, will be explained in the Part2 !

to get back to the shipping cost

after having been traumatised by the Roro experience,

I've made many quotations to get the car back in a container

after many quotations, the container was more than twice the price of the Roro !

And you'll notice that the price could have been much higher withou help from friends

I'll never thank enouth, for the truck, or the transportation in Japan

because doing all that in a cab, would have been impossible, and very expensive !

And for all that administration things,

you WILL NEED someone talking the home language there ! You CANNOT do this without a translator.

In Japan no one talk English in the administrations

It would have been impossible !

And just for that, I'll never thank enough JC Pepino who was there by my side during all this adventure !

Examining the Problems of Life is Strange: Before the Storm - Duration: 20:48.

Hi, I'm Hamish Black and welcome to Writing on Games.

Look, I get it.

Between some downright painful dialogue and often wearing its influences uncomfortably

on its sleeve, the original Life is Strange is a tough sell to many.

There's a reason it ended up as one of my favourite games of 2015, however; that dialogue,

for all its high school melodrama and…

Spirits Within apologia, was less about what was being said; focusing more on what it said

about the characters.

Shoving TWIN PEAKS in the player's face is arguably some of the most on-the-nose referencing

you could see in a game but hey, this isn't the first piece of media to be set in a sleepy

town with a seedy underbelly.

No, it's what the game does with this influence that makes it its own thing; using its mechanics

to create a unique sense of place, then using this as a springboard to tell its heightened,

surprisingly dark, borderline magical-realist version of the coming-of-age story.

Time travel feels crucial to the game not as a means of giving the player more choice

in how they might affect the story, but in highlighting just how futile Max's choices

actually are.

It's not a game about time travel, it's not even really about high school drama; it

presents Max with every teenager's fantasy of being able to undo the consequences of

the dumb shit you will inevitably carry out as you coast through your existence, then

rewards that endeavour with death, destruction and the dismantling of the very fabric of

reality.

It's about highlighting Max's fear of the unknown, of consequence, her ignorance

of life outside the bubble of high school.

The conclusion it draws is grim, painting the real world as a cold, uncaring, often

unfair place, but there's a strange sense of hope running through it; both Max and Chloe

truly mature as people in their realisation of this (depending on if you picked what feels

like the one canonical ending here).

All in it was a neatly told story that used its heightened sense of reality and the mechanics

that resulted to explore two surprisingly well-rounded characters.

Now though, we have Before the Storm, a recently concluded prequel series with a new team,

doing away with the supernatural elements of the series to tell a more grounded story

as they see it.

Aaaaand…

Chloe is giving the middle finger to a fence.

Aaaand she apparently just won a conversation with a fully-grown adult by responding to

"isn't it past your bedtime" with "isn't it past yours."

Because apparently that's the main mechanic now.

Oh boy, we're in for a rough one here.

In all seriousness, my time with Before the Storm left me genuinely confused.

Why does this exist?

Why did it need to be episodic?

Why is this character doing what they're doing?

In what world do human beings act like this?

Moreover, why am I the only one who seems to think this way?

For every thinkpiece praising the character of Rachel and her believable relationship

with Chloe, I'd see barely more than a plot device.

For every review praising Chloe's acerbic wit and acute perception of the world around

her, I would see mechanics that seemed to celebrate the worst aspects of her character.

For every commentator commending the game's slower pace and eschewing a more typical plot

to focus on Chloe's day-to-day, I'd see the complete polar opposite; a bafflingly

rushed storyline reliant on contrivances, conveniences and underwritten characters.

In short, I may be in the minority here, and I genuinely hate to rag on people's work

like this, but I just do not understand the praise I keep seeing this game receive.

While it's clear that the new team behind this game had a great deal of respect for

the source material, that just didn't seem to translate into anywhere near as human a

tale as they wanted to deliver.

It feels like a slave to its influences; at once trying to say "me too" and simultaneously

completely missing the point of whatever it's referencing, throwing out what ounce of subtlety

the original had.

For one, while Life is Strange would often, perhaps smugly, nod its head towards its inspirations,

Before the Storm all but smacks its head into a goddamn mirror; going full-blown Fire Walk

With Me in its attempts to characterise the Laura Palmer stand-in of Rachel Amber; the

girl whose abduction acted as a vehicle for the larger plot of Life is Strange.

And while this isn't something that seemed necessary given how cohesive the original

felt as a package, I had no issue with a different team taking a stab at something ambitious

like this.

It's just that the relationship between Chloe and Rachel never feels as convincing

as that of Chloe and Max and that's partially because of the inconsistent nature of Rachel's

characterisation.

The game more than invites the Laura Palmer comparison, but where the darker side of Lynch's

troubled heroine originated from the horrendous abuse she suffered, Rachel Amber… just kinda

happens to be a dick.

She's a dick long before she discovers her father's apparent infidelity towards the

end of episode 1; the kind of entitled asshole to get pissy at you because she lost something

as insignificant as a quarter.

The game hints at the idea that Rachel isn't someone to be admired, as well as the idea

of performing one's identity for the sake of others, but never really follows through

on it, because the next minute we'll be expected to take whatever heartfelt realisation

about her feelings for Chloe that follows at face value.

Nothing is ever "realised" about Rachel across the three episodes; hell, they even

hint at some kind of supernatural shenanigans at play as she controls the wind with her

screams… and then just drops it.

She just is what she is; all things to all people.

The universally popular timid rational straight-A student who is talented at everything and

stays on the straight and narrow but is also a maverick with a hair trigger who loves punk

rock and isn't afraid to fight and ditch school, turning on people in a moment's

notice when the plot decides it needs something else to happen.

Far from being a likeable character, she's an asshole at best and her lack of consistency

makes her as much of a plot device as she was in the first game.

She sends you on missions, telling you to gather this or that for her, clumsily reminding

you that this is an adventure game after all.

And honestly, that was probably the point; it's clear the focus is Chloe here.

Exploring her character dealing with loss at its purest; not only having lost her dad

but having been abandoned by her friends too.

We, very occasionally, get to see her in moments of real vulnerability, peering into her mind

to witness her nightmares; those rare surreal scenarios where she just shuts up because

she's scared and doesn't understand the situation.

She can't sleep without recounting graphic images of her father's horrific death.

In these sequences, the game says more with less, making for some of the best moments

across the entirety of Life is Strange; telling us more about Chloe's character than her

pages of edgy teen comebacks ever could, even if these moments are unfortunately short lived

See, it's just a shame that mechanically, the game seems hellbent on saying less with

more; taking those edgy teen comebacks, no one's favourite part about the original,

and turning them into the game's defining mechanic.

I think it's maybe the worst move the series could have made.

At a few seemingly random points in the story, you'll get the opportunity to enter into

a kind of insult-'em-up where, by picking vague lines based on your opponent's last

verbal attack, you respond with such scathing takedowns as "you're stupid" and "you're

an asshole" or "doing homework is dumb."

There was potential for this to have a similar effect to that of Max's time travel; forcing

Chloe to confront the futility of her petulance.

Episode 2, for example, sees you ostensibly "win" the game of conversation, successfully

defending Rachel and, as a result, you get expelled.

It could have acted as a clever bait-and-switch; your idea of succeeding at a game gradually

being replaced with the notion that you're doing more harm than good; a mechanic conveying

Chloe's narrative arc in the same way it did Max's.

Unfortunately, the backtalk mechanic is used so haphazardly (from playing a game of D&D

to stealing a bottle of wine from the world's daftest couple), that it's difficult for

the system to tell a coherent story.

It more often than not puts Chloe on some kind of pedestal, celebrating what the writers

clearly see as her razor-sharp wit as she takes down bullies and get what she wants.

It's just that when you place that outcome against what she's actually saying to these

people, the writer's image of Chloe as some badass wordsmith and what we're presented

with feel like two very different things.

It's the worst of all worlds; a throwaway mechanic that says almost nothing about our

main character, while simultaneously painting her in the worst possible light.

That's not even to mention the game's main collectable, the graffiti.

Where Max would take photos, Chloe goes full punk rawk, scrawling horrendously unfunny

weed jokes on her wall at the best of times, and at worst being outrageously, uncannily

stupid; like when she infiltrates a certain, highly important person's office in which

it would do her well to keep a low profile, but she just can't help but write "SECRET

BOOZE STASH" on someone's furniture when she spots a wine bottle for some reason.

It's not a "this action will have consequences because it's perhaps the most confusingly

daft thing you could possibly do here" moment; it's just another collectable, a trophy,

a reward, one example of many of your interactions failing to line up with the kind of humanity

the writers were apparently striving for; and when you try to tell a human story and

fail, it's often the little details that stick out the most.

In Life is Strange, the writers clearly viewed it as weird that Max would just go around

looking at other people's stuff in video game fashion, and so they'd have characters

call her out for being nosy; it was written in as a character trait.

A small detail, sure, but one that makes the story better for having not been overlooked.

As groan-worthy and out of leftfield as it may initially seem, Max suddenly cutting to

how she thinks Final Fantasy: Spirits Within is an underrated movie when she's trying

to find secrets in Victoria's room at least makes sense as a stream of consciousness because,

crucially, she's thinking it; she isn't saying it.

As Virginia Woolf would tell you, thoughts are weird and tangential; our minds go to

unexpected places in tense situations.

It's when those internal ponderings turn external, as they so often do in Before the

Storm, that it becomes a problem.

Like when Chloe snarkily shouts at some animals as opposed to just shooing them away, or when

her backtalk mechanic has her referring to her "well of witticisms" that some people

might think about in an argument but no one would actually say, or when she writes SECRET

BOOZE STASH in a situation where it would only put her in danger, or when she climbs

a fence and gives it the middle finger.

Like, who's going to see that?

Who is that for?

Yes, it tells us that Chloe is an abrasive, edgy teen, but we knew that already.

We already had a whole game tell us that.

BtS was in a unique position to more fully explore Chloe's psyche as she deals with

loss and letting her guard down for someone who seems like she doesn't care, but little

moments like this only serve to detract from the game's attempts at sincerity; making

its characters feel lifeless, artificial, underwritten.

But it's not just a problem suffered by the game's characters; the larger plot's

attempts to pull at the heartstrings fall flat because of what I see to be glaring inconsistencies.

My friend Cagey Videos wrote what is still a great piece about how this game, for him,

nailed the feeling of abandonment that so often comes with loss, because in his eyes,

the game doesn't really have much of a plot; instead choosing to focus on Chloe just existing,

being left to her own devices as she is forced to deal with her pain alone.

And while I appreciate that sentiment, I would argue that the game actually does the opposite;

occasionally encouraging you to soak in the atmosphere, before remembering that it has

to get these characters to certain points in the story within a fairly short space of

time, resulting in, without hyperbole, one of the most rushed stories I've come across

in quite some time.

It's really odd; feeling like very little actually happens because it's on such a

relatively small scale, but that "very little" also seems to happen at a whiplash-inducing

pace.

For example, and here's where we'll get into spoilers, take something as seemingly

innocuous as the school play in episode 2.

Victoria will try to drug Rachel beforehand out of jealousy but Chloe finds out, and instead

of, ya know, informing someone, the pair think it'll be fun to force Victoria to drug herself

so that she collapses in front of the play's director and instead of, ya know, postponing

the play and informing someone, Rachel comes up with the genius solution of having Chloe

take over Victoria's role even though she's expelled and hasn't so much as glanced at

the script because "heehee let's put the punk kid in a funny costume," all while

Victoria is passed out on the ground in front of them.

Leading you to take to the stage and charmingly blag your way through the lines to rapturous

applause.

Even in normal circumstances this plot thread would be considered dramatically convenient

at best while perhaps painting every character as a fucking sociopath at worst, but then

you also remember that this whole encounter takes place over the course of a mere fifteen

minutes.

Questions of "why is this happening" were being constantly interrupted by questions

of "why is this happening."

I keep coming back to it but the writers said they wanted to craft a more human story here

and, well, human beings don't act like this.

If this was the one time this happened, though, it'd maybe be understandable as a means

of getting characters from situation A to emotional realisation B. But it's far from

the only example, and what's more, it's far from the worst.

That would come later, in episode 3 (and buckle up kids because this one gets wild).

This is where Rachel tells you to infiltrate her dad (the DA's) office in the Amber household

in order to get information, so you break in and find a burner phone seemingly mid-text

conversation with the friend of your drug dealer who it turns out is working with Rachel's

dad to keep a certain someone quiet but he might be going too far so you adopt the persona

of Rachel's dad to find out where this dude is before uncovering the fact her dad is being

blackmailed and so you end up playing a game of "burn the correct, conveniently-placed

evidence" and "pin the tail on the snitch" oh but not before the aforementioned SECRET

BOOZE STASH bit jesus christ and you find out where he is but before you can go…

Eliot shows up (a character so nothing-y and unimportant I genuinely forgot he existed)

after following you from the hospital and just waltzing into the house of a person he

doesn't know before suddenly exploding into a controlling asshole demanding "you need

to pay attention to ME now" and locking you in before you try to call the cops in

maybe the game's dumbest backtalk sequence which is of no consequence because you escape

anyway, all the while I'm thinking "who the hell is this prick," before you head

back to where it all began, the old mill, to conveniently find the drug dealer friend

about to give Rachel's mum an overdose of heroin but you get beaten up but then Frank

shows up and they start fighting but things fade to black and then you wake up and find

the mum sitting in a chair and she's apparently fine and solemnly tells you that…

Frank killed that other guy I guess and that "Rachel can't know the truth" even though

the whole reason any of this happened was because the mum came back looking for her

and the dad was a sack of shit about the whole thing and for a minute you think "oh maybe

they're going for a Black Lodge surrealist-type deal (just, ya know, without the dazzling

visual metaphors) where things aren't quite what they seem because none of this makes

any fucking sense" but then no because the ending shows that Frank did kill his pal and

the game just… didn't animate it or something?

All of this feels like it should occur over the course of an entire episode, hell maybe

two given the various threads and conspiracies being uncovered and characters at play here.

But no, this all happens in the last 40 minutes of the game.

My mouth was genuinely agape at what I was witnessing.

Combined with the almost universally awful voice acting (besides the new actor for Chloe

who does a genuinely fantastic job), these events brought to mind films like The Room

they were so farfetched.

Sure, the original Life is Strange rather quickly introduced Max's time travel powers,

but was surprisingly measured in establishing what they said about her character in episode

one, before exploring the larger context of the town in episode 2, then focusing on the

murder mystery in 3 and 4, then dealing with the repercussions of the twist in 5; it justified

its delivery as an episodic story because every episode had a distinct purpose.

Before the Storm, on the other hand, feels like it adopted that structure because that's

what the original did, then somewhere down the line forgot that it only had a certain

number of episodes with which to tell its story so had to cram everything in at the

last second.

And the thing is, I can imagine what they were likely going for.

The whole scenario with the play gets Chloe and Rachel to the point at which they truly

figure out the nature of their relationship.

The events of episode 3 get us to the final dilemma: how does Chloe, a person who knows

more about loss than anyone, navigate killing the image of someone close to Rachel?

These should be relatable, human moments and I truly believe the writers' intentions

were genuine, but because these brief occurrences arise from such wildly expedited and convenient

events, it all kept me coming back to the question: "in what world do human beings

act like this?"

The original Life is Strange had its fair share of convenient moments too, for sure;

where Max's powers would just so happen to give way at a point where it would provide

the most tension.

The difference is that Life is Strange was a game steeped in the supernatural; things

could be a little absurd at times because at almost every point, the state of the universe

as we knew it was being brought into question.

Perhaps ironically, the heightened reality of Life is Strange, establishing the baseline

of "things will be weird," is precisely what allowed it to cut more directly to the

core of the characters; examining more closely how they deal with these occurrences.

The writers of Before the Storm, however, place their story firmly in the realms of

reality.

And when you make that claim, the standards to which the resulting story will be held

should be higher as a result.

I genuinely don't like making videos like this; it was the same with the MGS video.

Even what you might think of as bad games often take a lot of work and it doesn't

feel good shitting on that.

I also understand that I'm in the minority here; it's the kind of story that rarely

gets told in games and perhaps people want to celebrate that fact alone, but I don't

think that means we should settle for that kind of story being told badly.

And sure, there are a few moments here that rank up there as the best things Life is Strange

has ever done; it just so happens that they always get drowned out by what immediately

follows.

A useless verbal tug-of-war here, a casual drugging there; all events carrying about

as much humanity and emotional weight as giving the middle finger to a goddamn fence.

So I hope you enjoyed my piece on Before the Storm.

Like I say, I might be in the minority here, but hey, ya gotta be honest about how ya feel.

Black Nightshade Review - Weird Fruit Explorer Ep 244 - Duration: 6:37.

I'm always on the look out for weird fruit when I'm traveling.

and this lighthouse here that is called executioner's rock so

it's got that name just a lot of people have died here boats are notorious for

crashing into the rocks that are still in the water just covered by like a little bit of water

they notoriously would like run into the things and people died there and there's

a serial killer that dumped like 20 bodies over here and he was like torture

people by drowning there's a grisly little place and it's just like in the

middle of the Long Island Sound and the people who own this place they were

telling me that there used to be like no plants at all they just like showed up

this season and now there's plants everywhere and they said "I guess well seaguls brought them"

So all this seagull crap everywhere had seeds in it. So there's all sorts of things

that the seaguls were eating is growing

and one thing that I noticed are these guys

This I believe is Solanum nigrum

which is Black Nightshade

and you can see right here, these little green berries... that's it

But if I were to eat these they would probably make me very very sick

or even kill me. You don't want to eat the green berries

The dark ones in there, well that one isn't perfectly dark but if you get a perfectly dark one

Those are okay. A lot of people think that they are poisonous

So I'm being super cautious about it. I know that some varieties are edible and a lot of them are poisonous

So I've been doing like a lot of research. Luckily like New York City

is not too far so I've been like on Google like trying to figure out if I

can eat these things or not. I think I'm like 90% sure it's okay

10% maybe it'll make me sick but I don't it's not gonna kill me

the deadly nightshade does look kind of similar to these but it's actually a

different genus definitely this is not it this is some sort of Solanum nigrum

because they have a dull color. If they are shiny then they are another one called Solanum americanum

I've been researching online using the website Eat The Weeds. So if I die eating this thing

then its Eat The Weeds' fault. But they have a disclaimer on there.. so even they're covered for idiots like me

but I'm going to find one, I'm going to eat one

and inside there's like a whole hell of a lot of seeds. So yeah here goes nothing.

Um.... its okay! there's a slight tomatoey taste

These are related to Tomatoes which make sense I hear a lot of reports

online that they taste a little bit like licorice and they do they have that kind

of kinda like dark kind of flavor to it it's very like mellow tasting and like

earthy tasting. definitely like a licorice or like another kind of like spicy taste

like a little bit like like a root beer kind of flavor or something like that

the tomato taste in there it's very slight it's like the tomato taste that

you get from like a ground cherry you know it doesn't taste like super like

hearty and savory the way that tomato does it definitely tastes more like a

berry than a tomato yeah they do definitely have like kind of like a root

kind of flavor like like a licorice root or like sassafras kind of flavor like

that that kind of that kind of tastes that kind of like mellow earthy kind of

flavor with a little bit of a berry taste and a

little bit of like a ground cherry or sweet tomato kind of taste actually

quite good you know if I wasn't terrified of these things I mean I I'm

reading all these things that are like you're gonna be okay you're gonna be

okay you're gonna be okay and I'm still kind of like I don't know just the fact

that the green ones can kill you is like concerning but if you take like a whole

bunch of these and we're like mix it with sugar and make a jam.

if you build up your confidence to do that

it would be very unique tasting

but I'm just going to stick with that one to play it safe, but it tastes pretty good

okay only have one minutes we have to make this fast guys click the like

wings so click on it that dislike button don't click that one go to comments

X-Japan - 紅 Kurenai Reaction 1997 Live | Level Blue - Duration: 6:16.

Hey guys it's Mira. It's been a while since I've done X-Japan video. It's been like at least 3 month

And I've been thinking about one song in particular to make a throwback video for... for weeks now

It is 紅 from their Vanishing Vision album, 1988

If you are new to my channel, I've already made a throwback video for Endless Rain

and Forever Love songs. So, it is only right to finally make one for 紅

But before I get into the video, I need your help here guys, especially from my Japanese friends

I kind of want to start a vinyl records collection with like X-Japan, L'arc-en-ciel, Spitz, Gazetto

and all the legends in there. Like I'm not a big collector, quite the opposite

I am an extreme minimalist in terms of my possessions

But music and wine is something I can make an exception for

I've looked up online, but I couldn't find much. It seems like many of them don't have records pressed on vinyl

I have found a couple on Ebay and that's pretty much it. So, if any of you know where I can buy

or order it, please let me know. Like where do you get this kind of stuff?

Do you have it like in music stores in Japan? Or...yeah let me know.

Now going back to 紅, I have found a live from 1997, it's the last live with Hide

I haven't seen it in years. So let's go back in time and watch it together

Like, imagine how it would sound on a vinyl record

Shoot! It makes me very emotional. Every freaking time I watch something old from X-Japan, it's like that

Aaaaah look at that look!

Man, they've started it all

I wish the quality of the video was better

I have to say, instrumental in this songs makes it all for me

See...that's what I a talking about

Yoshiki is the beast

Legit have goose bumps right now

I've read somewhere that it was Hide's favourite song

The band is a legend, this song is a legend and event the red stage for this song is legend.

I also love the version with Yoshiki playing intro on the piano, accompanied by violin

and then Hide plays his guitar solo. Aaah! So good! They left such a legacy.

Smash the like button for X-Japan. Still very much loved and not forgotten

The other day I saw the photo on Instagram of Yoshiki and Hydo from L'arc-en-ciel in the recording studio

sitting together and I kind of freaked out. Like is that a hint from them that something is coming

or is that a wishful thinking I don't know. But, I am still waiting

Let me know in the comments you favourite X-Japan song

the one that get mentioned or liked the most will be my next X-Japan throwback video

Thank you so much for watching guys, subscribe for more j-rock videos

and I will see you in my next one, またね!
