Tengu 天狗 - Yokai Tales! - Duration: 9:11.

Hey everyone, welcome back, Kappaman here!

Today's yokai was requested by Treismac, who said "TENGU!!

I'd love to see you cover these Japanese heavenly dogs."

Way to start off big Treismac, as the Tengu have a lot of history and influence in Japanese

culture, even to this day!

So let's not waste any time and dive into it shall we?

The Tengu got it's start not in Japan, but China as a creature called Tiangou, meaning

"heavenly dog".

Although they share a similar name, this creature was quite different than the Tengu we know

and love today.

It resembled a dog and was generally considered to be a very dangerous enemy of man.

It was also seen as an omen of violence as it would proceed war and battle.

It was even said that the Tiangou would eat the sun or moon during eclipses, and the only

way to have it return would be to beat dogs until finally it gave in and spit the sun

or moon back out.

Please don't beat dogs during eclipses.

I guarantee this will not bring back the sun.

Something both the Tiangou and the Tengu do have in common is they were both described

as looking like shooting stars.

In one of Japan's earliest books from the year 720, called the Nihon Shoki (日本書紀)

or 'The Chronicles of Japan', there is what many consider to be the first mention of these

deities.

Here it is said that the Tengu appears in a shooting star, bringing with it war like

it's Chinese cousin.

The Tengu's image has changed a lot since then, as it's no longer represented by a comet

riding dog, but rather two popular variations.

It's possible that the Tengu's appearance morphed from a dog to a bird as it came to

Japan because of the Garuda, a type of Hindu creature often spoken about in Buddhist writings.

This mythological race is humanoid in appearance, but mixed heavily with bird features, like

a beak and wings.

Although the Garuda are generally more friendly than the Tengu, the visual similarities are

quite striking.

There's many other beasts with similar appearances and names as the Tengu, so the exact origin

is messy at best.

The kanji for Amanozako, a female deity that was written about in the 18th century, can

be translated as 'tengu deity', and also has a long nose and ears, but other wise is very

different than the tengu.

Theres also the red faced version, which is arguably the more popular image of the tengu

these days.

The thick eyebrows, great pout and suggestively long nose are often sold as masks, snacks

and anything else you can think of in modern day Japan.

The long nosed tengu is often confused with the deity Sarutahiko Okami, who has

many shrines dedicated to him across Japan.

He is often seen as the protector of martial arts such as Aikido, as he is the deity of

strength, guidance and misogi, which is the practice of standing under a water fall to be purified.

Often Sarutahiko is also shown to have an identical red face as the tengu, so it's understandable

why people would confuse the two.

The tengu are no strangers to fashion, and are often times depicted in the same style

as priests.

Because of their connection to the religious group Yamabushi, who practice Shugendo, a

style of training and meditation that takes place in the mountains, the tengu wear the

same robes as these practitioners along with a type of small hat called the tokin,

and a sash called the yuigesa.

They have a priest's staff called Shakujo, which is topped with a metal tip

and several rings.

They also carry ha-uchiwa, which is a fan that has the ability to shrink or enlarge

a person's...

nose.

Pinocchio, eat your heart out.

The Tengu's shoes of choice are none other than the single toothed geta, also conveniently

enough referred to as tengu-geta, which gives them an even taller and overpowering appearance.

The earlier stories of the tengu weren't so flattering, which depicted them as causing

trouble for practitioners of buddhism.

Disguised as priests, the tengu would sneak into temples and steal their goods, possess

women to try and lure priests off their pure paths, they would also carry other priests off, leaving them

stranded in remote areas, and they would encourage others to worship the tengu.

Later on, around the 12th and 13th centuries, the tengu were thought to be the ghosts of

priests who had not properly followed the teachings of the buddhist scriptures, and

come back to cause havoc for the living.

In Hogen Monogatari, or 'the tale of hogen', a collection of tales related to the hogen

rebellion released around 1320, there is a story of Emperor Sutoku.

He had been forced down from the throne by his father, and later played an important

role in the Hogen rebellion in hopes of removing the then emperor go-shirakawa.

But Sutoku was defeated and sent to Shikoku, where he eventually died, but not before swearing

revenge by returning to Japan as a demon, becoming a tengu to haunt the country.

Due to these and other stories, the tengu became synonymous with arrogance and vanity,

and to this day you may here the Japanese use the expression "Tengu ni naru", or

'to become a tengu'.

This is often said about people who are too prideful.

But it must be a bit positive I think, people here say it to me all the time!

Speaking of arrogance, the type of person you were in life could effect the type of

tengu you became after death.

As I said before, buddhist followers that failed to properly follow the scriptures would

often become tengu because they couldn't go to hell, nor ascend to heaven.

This applied not only to priests, but regular men and women as well.

Those with great knowledge became daitengu, or great tengu, who were more human like,

and those that were foolish or ignorant became kotengu, or small tengu, who were more bird like.

They're not all bad though, despite falling into the path of arrogance, some tengu were

depicted as actually protecting buddhism, and these were actually accepted and appreciated

by the priests.

This train of thought continued on through generation after generation, where at one

point in the 17th century came the story of a tengu that changed its form to that of a

yamabushi, and began to train in one of the zen temples.

One of the monks guessed his true form, after a while, and the tengu transformed back, but instead of

being violent, he continued to protect the temple and it's people.

What a nice guy.

There's a lot of fun stories of the tengu, like the boy who was playing with a piece

of bamboo, looking through it pretending he could see far off lands.

A curious tengu saw this and believed the boy

and offered to trade his magic cloak in exchange for the bamboo, which the boy happily agreed to.

It turns out this cloak could turn the boy invisible, which he then used to get into mischief.

Or how about the story of the man who gets the tengu's magic fan, and uses it to secretly grow the

nose of a woman he wants to marry.

He tells her he can cure her now inhuman sized nose in exchange for her hand in marriage,

which she of course agrees to.

One night, as the man was dozing off, he accidentally uses the fan on himself, extending his nose

up into the heavens.

To be honest, I couldn't possibly cover all the stories of the tengu in this video, and

I encourage you to seek some out yourself.

They're usually quite interesting and help you get a better understanding of old Japanese

folk tales and pop culture references.

So, I think I'll leave things at that, now that your tengu whistle is wetted, oh my.

And speaking of wet, in the next episode we'll learn about the viewer requested Akaname,

a yokai that would happily clean up after your bath...with its tongue.

See you then.

I Believe in You - Michael Bublé - A Cappella Cover by Scott & Ryceejo - Duration: 3:20.

Time goes by, and I've been holding everything inside

But now I've got nothing left to hide

When I'm with you, oh you

But I can see, how strong a man I'm gonna have to be

To do for you what comes so naturally

It's in the way you move

And all I want, is a chance to prove

Show all I can do

I believe in starting over

I can see that your heart is true

I believe in good things coming back to you

You're the light that lifts me higher

So bright you guide me through

I believe in you

And I don't mind, if you wanna hold onto me tight

You don't have to be alone tonight

If you don't want to

And all I want

Is to know you're near

You're all I need here

I believe in starting over

I can see that your heart is true

I believe in good things coming back to you

You're the light that lifts me higher

So bright you guide me through

I believe in you

I know that there are times that you feel worthless

Like all the love you get you don't deserve it

Sometimes I feel my faith is just a burden on you, you, you

I believe in starting over

I can see that your heart is true

I believe in love you give me reason to

You're the light that lifts me higher

So high up in the sky

I, I think we're gonna fly

I believe in starting over

I can see that your heart is true

I believe in love you give me reason to

You're the light that lifts me higher

So bright you guide me through

I believe in you

May Wrap Up 2017! - Duration: 8:14.

Hi everyone, it's Sandy and today I will be

talking about all the books that I read

in the month of May. Also, yes, I did get a haircut.

I ended up reading seven books and I

also DNF'd one book. The first book

that I ended up finishing in May is

Starfall by Melissa Landers. This is the

second book to the Starflight duology.

The first book, Starflight follows two

characters who basically hate each other

and they end up on a spaceship and they

have to help each other survive. And

Starfall is a companion book so it does

follow two new characters but the

characters from the previous book are

still somewhat presents throughout this

book. I didn't like this book as much as

I did with the first book. The first book

was really enjoyable and fun and

entertaining to read. I really loved the

banter between the two characters in the

first book but the two main characters

that we followed in this book were just

so annoying. They were constantly on and

off. They had a lot of miscommunication

going on and it was just so frustrating

to read. I ended up giving this book a 3

out of 5 stars. I would have enjoyed it

more if the characters weren't as annoying.

The characters just weren't my favorite

and I didn't enjoy reading from their

perspectives so that is why I didn't

enjoy the book as much as I wanted to.

The second book that I finished is A Court

of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Maas, the

third and final book to the ACOTAR

trilogy, sort of, because I know that

there are going to be three more books

in the series but it won't follow

Feyre. I can't really say much about my

thoughts because it is the third book

and my thoughts would be spoilery. Before

I get into my review, I do want to

address the problematic aspects of this

book. Sarah J. Maas has been constantly

criticized about the lack of diversity

in her books, which is something that she

has never really acknowledged and in

this book you can definitely see that

she tried to incorporate diversity in it.

However, she still manages to include

harmful representation. For example, she

refers to asexual people as soulless and

she also portrays this negative and

offensive stereotype concerning bisexual

people loving threesomes. That's just not

okay and it's really disappointing that

she has never really addressed these

issues. Those problematic aspects are

something that I did not want to ignore

so I did want to mention that in my

review. Going into my thoughts, I did enjoy

the story overall. Since this is like the

conclusion/finale to the trilogy, I was

really nervous to see how it would end. I

was really nervous for the characters.

Pretty much with a lot of Sarah J. Maas' books,

I would become really really engaged

with the last like hundred pages or so.

My emotions were basically like all

over the place during those last 100

pages. My heart was beating so fast

because I was just really scared for the

characters. The middle part of this book

did drag a bit because there was a lot

of planning and scheming and forming

alliances. And even though I know that

there will be three more books in the

series, I felt like a lot of the

characters' storylines were just left

open and I wish they were resolved more

or there was a bit more closure to these

characters. I ended up giving this book

a 4 out of 5 stars. The next book is a

book that I DNF'd and that was Alex and

Eliza by Melissa de la Cruz and it kind

of kills me that I DNF'd it but I just

wasn't in the mood to read it. In case

you didn't know this book follows

Elizabeth Schuyler and Alexander

Hamilton and it just kind of follows

their story as they were like teenagers.

I really love Hamilton so I was really

looking forward going into this book. I

started listening to the audiobook and I

just found it boring. There wasn't much

happening. I just wasn't feeling the

characters. I'm not exactly sure where I

stopped but I was probably like one

third through the book. I do plan on

eventually finishing this book because I

am curious to see the storyline and to

see how it ends but just not this month.

The next book that I read is Queens of

Geek by Jen Wilde. I absolutely loved the

setting and characters. This book takes

place at a convention and it follows two

main characters: Charlie, who is a popular

Chinese-Australian YouTuber who recently

starred in a movie, and Taylor, who has

anxiety and is on the autism spectrum

and really wants to meet the author of

her favorite book series at this

convention. As you can see, there are so

many things about this book that makes it

diverse. This is an own voices book

because Charlie is bisexual and the

author also identifies as bi. Taylor is

autistic and the author is also autistic.

I really enjoyed this book. There was a

lot of great messages in this book

concerning body shaming and slut shaming

and it was just so good. It was a really

great contemporary. I highly recommend it.

I ended up giving it a 4.5 out of 5

stars. If you're in the mood for a

contemporary book that takes place at a

convention, definitely check this book

out. The next book that I read is By Your

Side by Kasie West. This book follows

Autumn, who ends up being locked in a library

with this boy named Dax Miller. That's all

I'm going to say about the plot but

overall, I just thought everything about

this book was just okay. The plot was okay,

the characters was okay, and the romance

was okay. From the plot of this book, it

sounds like it's going to be a really

cute contemporary and it did have its

cute moments but I just didn't like it as much as

I wanted to. If I read this book a few

years ago, I probably would have loved it.

I just didn't like the writing. I wish

there was more depth to the characters.

What I did like is that there's this

portrayal of anxiety. Our main character,

Autumn, does struggle with that and this

is something that she hides from all of

her friends and I really like how

supportive her family is. I also do like

that this book shows a bit of insight

about the foster care system. Since this

book is about a boy and a girl being

locked in a library, I just expected more

from this book and this book just didn't

live up to my expectations, so I ended up

giving it a three out of five stars.

The next book that I finished is On the

Edge of Gone by Corinne Duyvis and this is

an apocalyptic book. Our main character

is separated from her sister and she's

trying to survive with her mother who is

addicted to drugs. I really liked reading

from this main character's point of view

and seeing how she is trying to survive in

this apocalyptic world. This is an own

voices book that follows our main

character, Denise, who is autistic and the

author who wrote this book is also

autistic. The story also includes a

diverse cast. Our main character is

biracial and her sister is a bisexual

trans black girl and there are also

Muslim and Jewish characters. It's just a

really great diverse cast of characters.

Although I did like the main character, I

wish we would have learned more about

some of the side characters. The

side characters were just kind of

there. They weren't really a big part of

the book and I just really wanted to

learn more about them but I know that

that would have made this book super

long. Also, the plot wasn't really my

favorite. I just felt like there really

wasn't much going on in this book. Not a

lot was happening and there really

wasn't a lot of interesting things

happening in the book. The ending also

felt rushed and it didn't leave me

feeling completely satisfied with how it

ended, especially since this book is a

standalone, so I would have liked to have

that like satisfied feeling of finishing

a book but I didn't really get that. But

I still did like the story and I really

liked Denise's character so I ended up

giving this book a 3.5 out of 5 stars.

The next book that I finished was a reread

and it is Lady Midnight by Cassandra

Clare. This is the first book in The Dark Artifices

and I loved it. I have a review on it,

which I will link down below if you want

to check out. I love this book but I

don't think I loved it as much as I did

the first time that I read it. Maybe because

it's a reread and I was expecting a lot

of things to happen because I already

know what was coming but I still love

the characters. I love the Blackthorn family

and their interactions with one another. I

would still give it a five out of five

stars, to be honest. And the very last

book that I read in May is Lord Of

Shadows, the second book to The Dark

Artifices by Cassandra Clare. I'm not

going to say much about this book

because it's the sequel but I will be

filming a review soon so keep an eye out

for that. I literally finished this book

like ten hours ago. I finished it last

night and it wrecked me. I was sobbing,

but again I loved the Blackthorn family.

I love Ty, Livvy, and Kit. I thought this

book was fantastic. It was really

fascinating to see the whole political

climate of the Shadowhunter world in

this book. I think it's very reflective

of our own political state today. One

thing that I really love about the

Shadowhunter world is that there is so

much that can be explored within this

world. There's already more than ten

books in the Shadowhunter Chronicles and

there's just so much that can be written

about this world and I'm never going to

complain about Cassandra Clare

writing so many books taking place in

the Shadowhunter world. She has built

such an amazing world and I'm just

constantly mind blown by her writing, by

her characters, and all the

different plot lines in her stories. I

really love this book. I give it a 5 out

of 5 stars and I'm so, so sad that I have

to wait two years for the third book

because Cassie's next book would be the

first book in The Last Hours, which I am

so excited for but I hate that I have to

wait two years for the third book. Thank

you so much for watching this video. If

you've read any of the books that I

mentioned, please let me know your

thoughts in the comments below. I hope

you guys enjoyed this video and I will

see you next time. Bye!

How to use 'of course'. It's not always polite. - Duration: 10:33.

'Of course.'

This is such a useful English phrase, but be careful.

If you use it wrongly people might think you're angry or when you're not, or they might

think that you think they're stupid.

That's no good!

You don't want to get it wrong, but don't worry.

In this video you'll learn how to use it correctly.

'Of course' is a dangerous phrase because it can be polite or it can be rude.

Let's start by looking at some polite ways to use it.

Are you coming to my party on Saturday?

Yes, of course!

I'm looking forward to it.

Erm…

I was wondering.

Can I bring a friend?

Yes, of course.

Please do.

Thank you.

'Of course' is polite and friendly here.

It's like definitely, certainly.

It emphasizes that what we're saying is true or correct.

Of course I'm going to Geri's party because I REALLY want to go.

And Geri will be VERY happy if I bring a friend.

When we're saying yes, 'of course' can add emphasis.

The most common way we use 'of course' is to reply to requests.

I'm going to lunch.

Oh, can I come too?

Yes, of course.

'Of course' means 'please do – you're very welcome.

OK, here's another way to use 'of course' politely.

Oh.

I'm sorry to hear that.

OK.

Good-bye.

We've lost a customer.

Oh.

I tried my best.

Of course you did.

I did everything I could.

Of course, I know you did.

Don't worry about it.

I'm agreeing with Jay here.

I'm sympathetic and 'of course' is a polite way to agree with what he said.

Now is 'of course' always polite?

No.

So what's an impolite way to use 'of course'?

Let's look at one.

Do you need some help?

Of course I do!

Jay is criticizing me here.

He's complaining that I wasn't helping.

If he had asked for help though, it could be different.

Vicki, can you help?

Yes, of course.

Thank you.

Of course is polite here and we're both happy.

So what's going on?

Sometimes 'of course' is polite and sometimes it's not.

Well, to understand this, you need to know what 'of course' really means.

Double word score.

Ha ha.

We're playing scrabble today.

I love scrabble.

Vicki's winning, of course.

By fifty points.

She always wins.

So what does 'of course' mean?

It means obviously.

I'm really good at scrabble so of course I'm going to win.

It's obvious If something is obvious - easy to see or understand

- we can say 'of course'.

And that's why we often use 'of course' when we say 'yes' to requests.

My battery's flat.

Can I use your phone?

Yes, of course.

Of course means the answer is obvious.

You know I want to help.

Please go ahead.

So when people ask us for something, we often say 'of course'.

Can I borrow these?

Of course!

'Of course' means 'yes' here and it implies you should already know the answer.

Obviously I'm happy for you borrow them.

Now that was a request, but what about offers?

When someone offers us something, can we say 'of course'?

Let's see.

Do you want some more water?

Of course.

Of course isn't polite here.

If an answer is obvious you should know it already.

Of course I want some more water.

Why are you asking?

Are you an idiot?

'Of course' means he thinks I'm stupid.

That's not nice.

So what's the polite way to respond to an offer?

Do you want some more water?

Yes, please.

A simple yes.

That's what you need.

Just say 'yes' without 'of course'.

Let's look at another example.

Suppose I ask about you about the weather.

What's the forecast?

Is it going to rain?

Yes, of course.

Of course is strange here.

It could be a rude because it implies 'Why are you asking me this?

You should already know the answer.'

But I didn't know the answer.

Here's a better response.

What's the forecast?

Is it going to rain?

Yes, it is.

Oh.

I've got my car so I can give you a lift if you like.

Thank you very much.

Now that conversation is polite.

If someone asks a question and they don't know the answer, say a simple yes.

Now one more thing.

The opposite of course is 'Of course not'.

Again, we say it to add emphasis.

Are you wearing my perfume?

Of course not!

'Of course not' means definitely not.

Absolutely not.

So can we use 'of course not' reply to requests in a polite way?

Well possibly.

It can happen when we use the verb 'mind'.

Do you mind if I borrow these?

Of course not.

Thank you.

'Of course not' is polite here because of the word 'mind'.

'Do you mind?'

means 'do you object?'

So 'of course not' means, 'No, I don't object - Obviously I'm happy for you to

borrow them'.

'Mind' is an unusual verb and we've made another video about it.

I'll put a link here.

OK.

Let's check you've understood.

You're going to see Geri asking me two questions.

Are my answers appropriate or not?

And if not, what should I say?

Are you ready?

I love your necklace.

Is it new?

Yes, of course.

Did you hear the storm last night?

Yes, of course Were my answers appropriate?

No!

Geri's questions were normal questions, not requests, and she didn't know what my

answer would be.

Let's look at what I should have said.

I love your necklace.

Is it new?

Yes.

I bought it last week.

It's very nice.

Did you hear the storm last night?

Yes, I certainly did!

Wasn't it loud?

Lots of thunder.

Yes and lightning too.

Did you get them right?

Well done.

OK.

I have one more question for you.

Do you want to see some more of our videos?

I hope you said 'Yes, of course'.

You can subscribe to our channel and if you click the little bell icon too, you'll get

notified when we make a new video.

Thanks so much for watching and see you next week!

Bye!

Why Can't I Just Fit In? - Duration: 28:33.

ANNOUNCER: THE FOLLOWING PROGRAM IS PAID FOR BY

THE FRIENDS AND PARTNERS OF JOYCE MEYER MINISTRIES.

JOYCE: YOU DON'T GO AROUND BEING INSECURE ALL THE TIME

BECAUSE YOU THINK, "WELL, THEY PROBABLY DON'T LIKE ME.

THEY PROBABLY DON'T LIKE ME. THEY PROBABLY DON'T LIKE ME."

BUT I THINK WHEN YOU KNOW THAT GOD LIKES YOU.

GINGER: AS WE WALK THROUGH EACH NEW DAY,

WE ALL HAVE QUESTIONS.

THEY'RE JUST PART OF LIFE, BUT DID YOU KNOW THERE ARE

ANSWERS FOR YOU?

GOD SAYS WHEN WE LOOK, WE'LL FIND HIM.

HE'S NOT TRYING TO HIDE ANYTHING.

SO TOGETHER, WE ARE DISCOVERING LIFE'S EVERYDAY ANSWERS.

GINGER: HI EVERYONE, THANKS FOR JOINING US TODAY

ON "EVERYDAY ANSWERS."

JOYCE HAS SOME GREAT STUFF FOR YOU COMING UP, BUT LET ME ASK

YOU A QUESTION THIS WEEK.

DO YOU LIKE YOURSELF?

NOW, I KNOW THAT MAY NOT BE THAT EASY TO ANSWER, BUT IT'S REALLY

IMPORTANT, AND IT'S A HUGE STEP TOWARD ENJOYING YOUR LIFE.

IF YOU DON'T LIKE BEING AROUND YOURSELF OR FEEL GOOD

ABOUT YOURSELF, HOW CAN YOU ENJOY LIFE?

BUT IT CAN BE REALLY HARD TO ACCOMPLISH, ESPECIALLY WHEN

PEOPLE MAKE YOU FEEL BAD ABOUT WHO YOU ARE.

HERE'S A QUESTION COMING FROM TWITTER.

GABI SAYS, "SO MANY PEOPLE HURT ME, SAY HURTFUL WORDS TO ME,

AND HARASS ME.

WHAT CAN I DO TO OVERCOME IT?" WELL, GABI, YOU CAN'T CONTROL

WHAT THOSE PEOPLE SAY ABOUT YOU, BUT YOU DO HAVE A SAY IN HOW YOU

RESPOND, AND WE'VE ALL BEEN THERE.

WE KNOW IT HURTS, BUT YOU DON'T HAVE TO LET THEM SHAPE WHO

YOU ARE.

JESUS ALREADY DECIDED THAT YOU'RE LOVABLE.

NOW, IT'S TIME FOR YOU TO CHOOSE TO BELIEVE THAT AS JOYCE

ANSWERS THE QUESTION, "WHY CAN'T I JUST FIT IN?"

JOYCE: FATHER, THANK YOU FOR THIS CONFERENCE,

AND FOR ALLOWING US TO SERVE YOUR PEOPLE.

AND I PRAY THAT THE TEACHING THIS MORNING WOULD REALLY HELP

PREPARE PEOPLE FOR WHATEVER IS AHEAD IN THEIR FUTURE.

I PRAY, LORD, THAT EVERYBODY WOULD BE ATTENTIVE TO THE WORD,

AND THAT THEY WOULD RECEIVE SOMETHING THAT'S GOING TO MAKE

A BIG DIFFERENCE IN THEIR LIVES.

HELP ME, BE WITH MY MOUTH AS I SPEAK, AND BRING THINGS OUT OF

ME THAT I DON'T EVEN KNOW THAT PEOPLE NEED TO HEAR,

IN JESUS' NAME, AMEN.

WELL, TODAY, I WANT TO TALK TO YOU ABOUT HAVING THE COURAGE

TO BE DIFFERENT, AMEN.

YOU KNOW, THERE'S PROBABLY RELATIVELY FEW PEOPLE THAT HAVE

THE COURAGE TO BE COMPLETELY AND FULLY THEMSELVES THROUGHOUT

THEIR LIFETIME.

BUT I BELIEVE THAT, AS CHILDREN OF GOD, WE CAN LEARN THAT AS

LONG AS WE HAVE OUR TRUST IN HIM.

DO YOU KNOW ANYTHING AT ALL ABOUT LIVING A PHONY LIFE

BECAUSE YOU'RE TRYING TO IMPRESS EVERYBODY ELSE AROUND YOU?

THAT'S REAL TORMENT, ISN'T IT?

TO NOT BE ABLE TO BE FREE TO BE WHO YOU ARE.

AND YOU KNOW, THE TRUTH IS WE ARE ALL DIFFERENT.

GOD MADE US DIFFERENT ON PURPOSE, AND SO IT'S REALLY

FOOLISH TO SPEND YOUR LIFE TRYING TO BE LIKE SOMEBODY ELSE.

NOW, OTHER PEOPLE CAN BE AN EXAMPLE TO US, BUT THEY SHOULD

NEVER BECOME OUR STANDARD.

OUR STANDARD IS JESUS.

AND IF HE DIDN'T WANT US TO BE DIFFERENT, WE WOULDN'T ALL HAVE

SOMETHING AS SIMPLE AS DIFFERENT FINGERPRINTS.

I MEAN, HE'S GONE TO PRETTY GREAT EXTREME TO SAY,

"I DIDN'T CREATE YOU TO BE JUST LIKE SOMEBODY ELSE."

AND IT WAS HARD FOR ME TO FULLY STEP INTO AND EMBRACE THIS ROLE

THAT GOD HAS CALLED ME TO BECAUSE I GOT A LOT OF REJECTION

WHEN I FIRST STEPPED OUT TO DO THIS.

YOU KNOW, A WOMAN MINISTERING IS MUCH MORE ACCEPTABLE TODAY THAN

IT WAS 40 YEARS AGO WHEN I STARTED.

AND I BELIEVE THAT SOMETIMES, GOD USES PEOPLE, AND I'M SURE

HE WANTS TO USE YOU IN A SIMILAR WAY IN WHATEVER AREA YOU'RE IN,

TO KIND OF CLEAR THE PATH FOR OTHER PEOPLE THAT ARE GOING TO

COME BEHIND THEM.

AND I PAID A PRICE TO DO WHAT I'M DOING.

HONESTLY, I DON'T BELIEVE THAT YOU CAN EVER DO ANYTHING THAT'S

OF VERY MUCH VALUE IF YOU'RE NOT WILLING TO PAY A PRICE TO DO IT.

AND PART OF THE PRICE THAT WE PAY IS BEING MISUNDERSTOOD BY

OTHER PEOPLE.

WE ALWAYS EXPECT PEOPLE TO UNDERSTAND, BUT THEY DON'T.

AND WE HAVE TO FINALLY UNDERSTAND THAT IF GOD HAS

SPOKEN SOMETHING TO YOUR HEART, YOU GET IT.

BUT IF HE HASN'T SPOKEN THAT TO SOMEBODY ELSE ABOUT YOU, THEY

HAVE NO ABILITY TO UNDERSTAND.

AND IF YOU'RE TRYING TO DEAL AS A BELIEVER WITH AN UNBELIEVER,

THEN THEY CERTAINLY DON'T GET IT.

THEY DON'T UNDERSTAND ANYTHING ABOUT OUR WALK WITH GOD.

BUT I LOVE HEBREWS 4 THAT SAYS THAT WE HAVE A HIGH PRIEST

WHO UNDERSTANDS.

SEE, JESUS UNDERSTANDS YOU.

SO, IN YOUR OWN LITTLE BRAND OF UNIQUENESS--SEE, I USED TO THINK

I WAS WEIRD, BUT THEN I FINALLY REALIZED,

"I'M NOT WEIRD, I'M UNIQUE."

AND YOU ARE UNIQUE, AND GOD WANTS YOU TO BE FREE TO BE FULLY

AND COMPLETELY YOURSELF.

YOU CAN SURVIVE REJECTION IF YOU HAVE TO.

YOU CAN SURVIVE THE REJECTION OF PEOPLE, BUT YOU CANNOT SURVIVE

LOSING YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD BY BEING A COWARD AND GIVING

IN TO WHAT THE WORLD IS MAKING DEMANDS ON US FOR.

YOU KNOW, WHEN I FIRST STEPPED OUT TO FOLLOW THE CALL OF GOD ON

MY LIFE, I MEAN, I WENT THROUGH SOME VERY, VERY, VERY

HARD TIMES.

I GOT ASKED TO LEAVE MY CHURCH, LOST MOST OF MY FRIENDS, AND IT

WAS A LONELY AND A HARD TIME FOR ME.

AND TO STAND HERE AND SAY THAT I HAD NO FEAR WOULD NOT BE TRUE

BECAUSE, BACK THEN, I DIDN'T UNDERSTAND HOW TO DEAL WITH FEAR

LIKE I DO TODAY.

BUT I'M SO GRATEFUL THAT GOD GAVE ME THE COURAGE AND

THE GRACE TO WANT TO PLEASE HIM MORE THAN I WANTED TO PLEASE

THE PEOPLE.

[AUDIENCE CHEERING]

JOYCE: YOU KNOW, DON'T GET INTO THINKING LIKE, "WELL, I

DON'T KNOW WHAT I'D DO IF THIS.

OH, I DON'T KNOW WHAT I'D DO IF THAT.

WELL, I JUST DON'T THINK I COULD TAKE IT IF THAT HAPPENED.

I DON'T THINK I COULD STAND IT IF THAT HAPPENED."

NO, WHAT YOU NEED TO BE THINKING IS, "I CAN DO WHATEVER I NEED

TO DO.

WHATEVER COMES AGAINST ME IN LIFE, GOD IS WITH ME, AND I CAN

DO WHATEVER I NEED TO DO THROUGH CHRIST WHO IS MY STRENGTH."

SEE, I LIKE MY FRIENDS, BUT I DON'T HAVE TO HAVE THEM TO

SURVIVE.

WE HAVE TO UNDERSTAND THAT THE ONE THING WE CANNOT DO

WITHOUT IS GOD.

WE CAN DO WITHOUT ANYTHING ELSE IF WE HAVE TO, BUT WE CANNOT DO

WITHOUT GOD.

PEOPLE THAT ARE WILLING TO BE DIFFERENT AND BE FULLY WHO THEY

ARE--MATTER OF FACT, I THINK I MIGHT AS WELL SAY THEY'RE

THE ONLY PEOPLE THAT CAN DO GREAT THINGS.

THE ONLY PEOPLE THAT CAN DO GREAT THINGS ARE THOSE THAT ARE

WILLING TO STAND UP, AND STAND OUT, AND PAY A PRICE.

NOW, NOAH WAS QUITE DIFFERENT.

IN GENESIS CHAPTER 6, BEGINNING IN VERSE 5,

"AND THE LORD SAW THAT THE WICKEDNESS OF MAN WAS

GREAT IN THE EARTH, AND THAT EVERY IMAGINATION AND INTENTION

OF ALL HUMAN THINKING WAS ONLY EVIL CONTINUALLY."

SOUNDS A LITTLE BIT LIKE TODAY, DON'T YOU THINK?

I MEAN, DOESN'T THE BIBLE SAY THAT IT WILL BE AS IT WAS IN

THE DAYS OF NOAH, IT WILL BE AS IT WAS IN THE DAY OF SODOM

AND GOMORRAH?

COME ON, WE NEED TO WAKE UP AND REALIZE WHAT'S GOING ON IN

THE EARTH TODAY.

"AND THE LORD REGRETTED THAT HE HAD MADE MAN ON THE EARTH,

AND HE WAS GRIEVED AT HEART.

SO, THE LORD SAID, 'I WILL DESTROY, BLOT OUT, AND WIPE AWAY

MANKIND, WHOM I HAVE CREATED FROM THE FACE OF THE GROUND,

NOT ONLY MAN [BUT] THE BEASTS, AND THE CREEPING THINGS,

AND THE BIRDS OF THE AIR, FOR IT GRIEVES ME AND MAKES

ME REGRETFUL THAT I HAVE MADE THEM.'

BUT NOAH FOUND GRACE (AND FAVOR) IN THE EYES OF THE LORD."

NOAH WAS A MAN OF INTEGRITY IN HIS COMMUNITY, AND HE WALKED

WITH GOD.

CAN I TELL YOU SOMETHING?

NO MATTER HOW BAD THINGS LOOK, GOD'S ALWAYS GOT A MAN,

HE'S ALWAYS GOT A WOMAN, AND IT ONLY TAKES ONE.

[AUDIENCE APPLAUDING]

JOYCE: AND IT COULD BE YOU.

IT ONLY TAKES ONE.

WHAT ONE PERSON CAN DO.

ONE MAN, ADAM, SINNED, AND SIN WAS PASSED ON TO ALL MEN.

ONE GOD-MAN, JESUS CHRIST, BECAME RIGHTEOUS,

AND RIGHTEOUSNESS WAS PASSED ON TO ALL MEN.

LET ME TELL YOU, IF YOU'LL STAND UP AND PAY THE PRICE AND NOT

CARE WHO LIKES IT, GOD CAN USE YOU TO DO SOMETHING BEYOND

THE ORDINARY.

I DON'T WANT TO BE ORDINARY.

I DON'T CARE ANYTHING ABOUT BEING AVERAGE, I WANT TO BE ALL

I CAN BE IN JESUS' NAME AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

[AUDIENCE APPLAUDING]

JOYCE: YOU'VE ALL GOT GREATNESS ON THE INSIDE OF YOU.

IF YOU'RE A BELIEVER, YOU HAVE A DESIRE DOWN DEEP INSIDE OF YOU

TO DO SOMETHING EXTRAORDINARY, DON'T YOU?

IT'S IN THERE.

IT'S LIKE--AND THEN THE DEVIL WILL COME AGAINST YOUR BRAIN,

"WELL, WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?

YOU CAN'T DO THAT."

IT ONLY TAKES ONE.

AND GOD USE--GOD USES SOME OF THE MOST RIDICULOUS PEOPLE.

I MEAN, 1 CORINTHIANS SAYS THAT HE USES THE WEAK AND THE FOOLISH

THINGS OF THE WORLD TO CONFOUND THE WISE.

WHAT THE WORLD WOULD THROW AWAY, GOD CHOOSES AND USES FOR

HIS GLORY.

SO, LET ME JUST SAY THIS, DO NOT DISCOUNT OR DISQUALIFY YOURSELF.

DO NOT INSULT GOD BY SAYING THAT HE CANNOT USE YOU.

GOD CHOOSES THE WEAK AND THE FOOLISH THINGS OF THE WORLD SO

THAT NO MAN CAN TAKE THE CREDIT.

I JUST LOVE FOR PEOPLE TO LOOK AND SAY, "WELL, THAT'S GOT

TO BE GOD.

THAT HAS TO BE GOD BECAUSE I KNEW YOU WHEN."

I BELIEVE THAT MANY TIMES, WHEN WE'RE GOING THROUGH SOME KIND

OF--THERE'S A TEMPTATION TO COMPROMISE OUR INTEGRITY,

I BELIEVE THAT IT'S NOT ONLY AN ATTACK OF THE ENEMY, BUT I THINK

SOMETIMES GOD JUST KIND OF STANDS BACK, AND IT'S A TEST

FOR US BECAUSE THERE'S SOMETHING ELSE THAT GOD WANTS TO USE US

FOR, BUT HE'S GOT TO TEST US WHERE WE'RE AT TO MAKE SURE THAT

WE'RE GOING TO HANDLE IT RIGHT.

AMEN?

YOU SEE, IF WE FALL APART BECAUSE TWO NEIGHBORS DON'T LIKE

US, AND YOU'RE PRAYING FOR SOME BIG THING, DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA?

SEE, I KNOW--THANK GOD A LOT OF PEOPLE LOVE ME, BUT THERE'S

A LOT OF PEOPLE THAT DON'T.

I AGREE, UNBELIEVABLE.

YOU'RE RIGHT, RIGHT THERE.

[LAUGHING]

JOYCE: I MEAN, I WAS IN A DRUGSTORE THE

OTHER DAY PICKING SOMETHING UP, AND A LADY CAME UP TO ME AND SHE

SAID, "I'M SO SORRY TO BOTHER YOU.

CAN I JUST HUG YOU?" AND SO SHE HUGGED ME AND SHE

SAID, "YOU KNOW, YOU HAVE JUST CHANGED MY LIFE."

AND SHE SAID, "HERE'S AN INTERESTING THING."

SHE SAID, "WHEN I WAS FIRST SAVED, I WAS TOLD, 'DO NOT

LISTEN TO JOYCE MEYER.'" SHE SAID, "BUT I'M SO GLAD I

LISTENED ANYWAY."

AND YOU KNOW, I THOUGHT--I MEAN, STUFF LIKE THAT USED TO HURT ME,

BUT NOW IT'S LIKE, I DON'T KNOW, GOD'S GOT ME COVERED.

I GO OUT AND I JUST THINK EVERYTHING'S FINE, YOU KNOW?

AND EVEN THOUGH I KNOW IT'S HAPPENING, I MEAN, I'M STILL

SOMETIMES KIND OF LIKE IN SHOCK THAT SOMEBODY IS, LIKE,

DON'T LIKE ME.

WELL, SEE, THAT'S KIND OF WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU LIKE YOURSELF.

HELLO.

I SAID THAT'S KIND OF WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU LIKE YOURSELF.

YOU DON'T GO AROUND BEING INSECURE ALL THE TIME BECAUSE

YOU THINK, "WELL, THEY PROBABLY DON'T LIKE ME.

THEY PROBABLY DON'T LIKE ME. THEY PROBABLY DON'T LIKE ME."

AND I THINK WHEN YOU KNOW THAT GOD LIKES YOU.

HELLO, WHEN YOU KNOW THAT GOD LIKES YOU, THEN YOU

DON'T--YOU'RE NOT WORRIED SO MUCH ABOUT WHAT EVERYBODY ELSE

THINKS.

I TELL YOU, I'M ENCOURAGED EVERY TIME THAT I GO BACK AND READ

ABOUT DANIEL AND SHADRACH, MESHACH, AND ABEDNEGO.

DANIEL SAID, "I WILL NOT DEFILE MYSELF."

AND THERE WAS A COUPLE OF DIFFERENT THINGS THAT HAPPENED.

I'M JUST GOING TO TELL YOU ABOUT THEM TO CONSERVE SOME TIME, BUT

ONE OF THE THINGS THAT HAPPENED WAS DANIEL WAS--THEY PASSED

A LAW THAT ANYBODY WHO PRAYED TO ANYBODY OTHER THAN THE KING

WILL BE PUT IN A LION'S DEN.

AND I LOVE WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS.

IT SAYS, "AND DANIEL, WITH HIS WINDOWS OPEN, CONTINUED TO PRAY

THREE TIMES A DAY JUST AS HE ALWAYS HAD DONE."

NOW, YOU SEE WHY THAT'S SO IMPORTANT?

HE SAID, "I'M NOT GOING TO COMPROMISE ONE LITTLE BIT.

I'M NOT GOING TO WORRY ABOUT WHAT YOU THINK YOU CAN DO TO ME.

I'M GOING TO CONTINUE TO BE WHO I AM, FULLY MYSELF.

I AM A CHRISTIAN, I'M NOT GOING TO APOLOGIZE FOR IT, I'M NOT

GOING TO BE QUIET ABOUT IT, I'M NOT ASHAMED OF IT.

[AUDIENCE APPLAUDING]

JOYCE: AND YOU'LL JUST HAVE TO DO WHATEVER

IT IS THAT YOU DO, AND I'LL TRUST GOD."

WELL, SURE ENOUGH, HE WAS PUT IN THE LION'S DEN.

LAID DOWN, HAD A NAP.

GOD SENT AN ANGEL TO SHUT THE LION'S MOUTH.

AND THE KING ACTUALLY DIDN'T WANT TO SEE DANIEL HURT BECAUSE

HE ACTUALLY REALLY LOVED AND RESPECTED HIM, BUT BECAUSE HE'D

GIVEN HIS WORD THAT HE WOULD DO THIS, HE HAD TO DO IT.

AND IF YOU READ THE WHOLE STORY, IT SAYS THAT WHEN DANIEL CAME

OUT, THE KING REJOICED AND HE MADE A RULE THAT NOBODY COULD

SERVE ANY GOD BUT DANIEL'S GOD.

[AUDIENCE APPLAUDING]

JOYCE: SO, WHAT'S THE MESSAGE THERE?

THE MESSAGE IS THAT IF WE WILL STAND UP AND BE WHO WE'RE

SUPPOSED TO BE, PEOPLE ARE GOING TO BELIEVE IN CHRIST BECAUSE OF

OUR WITNESS.

ARE YOU THERE?

OH YEAH, THEY MAY MAKE FUN OF YOU, THEY MAY TALK ABOUT YOU,

THEY MAY REJECT YOU, BUT WHEN PUSH COMES TO SHOVE, HONEY,

THEY'RE GOING TO KNOW WHO THEY CAN GO TO TO GET ANSWERS

FOR THEIR LIFE.

AND WE ARE COMING INTO A TIME IN OUR SOCIETY WHERE PEOPLE ARE

GOING TO BE DESPERATE FOR ANSWERS, AND YOU WANT TO MAKE

SURE THAT YOU HAVE PAID THE PRICE TO BE SOMEBODY THAT THEY

FEEL LIKE THEY CAN COME TO IN A TIME OF NEED.

WHEN DAVE USED TO WORK IN THE ENGINEERING FIELD, I MEAN, HE

TOOK A STAND FOR WHAT WAS RIGHT, AND HE SAID GUYS WOULD COME

ALONG SOMETIMES AT HIS PARTICULAR WORK AREA OR MAYBE

AT LUNCH.

YOU KNOW, THEY'D BE--THEY'D TRY TO TELL HIM A DIRTY JOKE, AND HE

TOLD ME ABOUT ONE INSTANCE WHERE HE SAID TO THE GUY,

"WHY ARE YOU DOING THAT?

YOU KNOW I DON'T WANT TO HEAR THAT STUFF."

AND SEE, YOU DON'T HAVE TO JUST SIT AND LET PEOPLE FILL YOU FULL

OF GARBAGE BECAUSE THEY FEEL LIKE DOING IT.

SPEAK UP AND SAY, "YOU KNOW WHAT?

I REALLY DON'T--I DON'T WANT TO GET INTO THAT KIND OF

A CONVERSATION.

I DON'T WANT TO HEAR DIRTY JOKES, I DON'T WANT TO HEAR

THE GOSSIP."

YOU KNOW, WELL, THEN IF THEY DON'T WANT TO EAT WITH YOU,

THEN JUST GO SIT SOMEWHERE AND EAT WITH GOD.

DON'T WORRY ABOUT THAT STUFF.

AND SO, YOU KNOW, THEY SAID DIFFERENT THINGS ABOUT HIM,

TALKING ABOUT, WHICH DAVE COULD CARE LESS.

I MEAN, HE DOESN'T--HE'S ONE GUY THAT DON'T CARE WHAT

ANYBODY THINKS.

AND BUT HE SAID WHEN THEIR MARRIAGES WERE FALLING APART,

WHEN THEY GOT A REPORT THAT THEY HAD CANCER, THEY WOULD ALWAYS GO

TO HIM AND SAY, "I WAS WONDERING IF YOU COULD TALK TO ME, DAVE.

MY WIFE LEFT ME.

OR I WAS WONDERING IF YOU COULD--IF I COULD TALK TO YOU,

DAVE.

I JUST GOT A REALLY BAD REPORT FROM THE DOCTOR."

SEE, WE NEED TO BE PREPARED TO BE SOMEBODY THAT PEOPLE CAN COME

TO WHEN THEY'RE DESPERATE.

COME ON, WHATEVER HAPPENS, WE CAN DO WHATEVER WE NEED TO DO

THROUGH CHRIST WHO IS OUR STRENGTH.

AMEN.

[AUDIENCE APPLAUDING]

JOYCE: YOU KNOW WHY?

BECAUSE WE'RE BOLD AND COURAGEOUS.

AND BOY, SHADRACH, MESHACH, AND ABEDNEGO, WHOO.

IF YOU NEVER READ THOSE STORIES, YOU NEED TO GO READ

DANIEL CHAPTER 3.

I MEAN, HOW POWERFUL THE STORY IS ABOUT THEM.

MATTER OF FACT, WE MIGHT AS WELL JUST READ IT.

I DON'T SEE ANY REASON NOT TO, DO YOU?

NOW, SHADRACH, MESHACH, AND ABEDNEGO WERE FRIENDS OF DANIEL.

HE NOT ONLY WAS A MAN OF INTEGRITY, HE HUNG OUT WITH

OTHER PEOPLE THAT WERE.

SOMEBODY HERE COULD HELP YOURSELF A LOT IF YOU'D JUST GET

A NEW BATCH OF FRIENDS.

AMEN.

NOW, HERE ANOTHER RULE WAS MADE THAT WHEN THE PEOPLE HEARD THE

SOUND OF THE--ALL THESE MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS, THAT THEY HAD TO

BOW DOWN AND WORSHIP THE GOLDEN IMAGE THAT THE KING HAD SET UP.

AND THE BIBLE DOESN'T SAY THIS, BUT I THINK IT MIGHT'VE BEEN

A PICTURE OF HIM 'CAUSE PEOPLE LIKE THIS KING PROBABLY LIKED

TO WORSHIP THEMSELVES.

AND SO, SHADRACH, MESHACH, AND ABEDNEGO SAID,

"WELL, WE'RE NOT BOWING DOWN."

AND THEY SAID, "WELL, THEN IF YOU DON'T BOW DOWN, I HOPE

YOU'RE READY TO GO INTO THE FIERY FURNACE."

AND SO, THEY SAID, AND I LOVE THIS, SHADRACH--VERSE 16,

"SHADRACH, MESHACH, AND ABEDNEGO ANSWERED THE KING,

'O NEBUCHADNEZZAR, IT IS NOT NECESSARY FOR US TO EVEN ANSWER

YOU ON THIS POINT.

IF OUR GOD WHOM WE SERVE IS ABLE TO DELIVER US FROM THE BURNING

FIERY FURNACE, HE WILL DELIVER US.

BUT IF NOT, LET IT BE KNOWN TO YOU THAT WE WILL NOT SERVE YOUR

GODS OR WORSHIP THE GOLDEN IMAGE WHICH YOU HAVE SET UP.'"

SO IN OTHER WORDS, "I'D LIKE TO KEEP MY JOB,

BUT I HAVE TO--IF I HAVE TO TELL LIES AND HELP YOU STEAL

MONEY TO KEEP MY JOB, THEN I GUESS I JUST WON'T HAVE

THIS JOB."

AMEN?

"OH, BUT I GOT TO KEEP MY JOB.

I GOT TO KEEP MY JOB."

NO, ACT LIKE A CHRISTIAN.

TRUST GOD TO GET YOU A BETTER ONE.

ALL RIGHT, SO.

AND WHEN THEY SAY, "IF GOD IS ABLE TO DELIVER US, HE WILL,"

THEY DIDN'T MEAN IT LIKE, "IF HE HAS THE POWER TO DO IT.'

THEY MEANT, "IF THAT'S IN GOD'S PLAN TO DO THAT, HE'LL DO THAT.

AND IF NOT, WE'RE NOT BOWING DOWN TO YOU."

SO, SURE ENOUGH, AND I'M NOT GOING TO READ THIS WHOLE THING,

THEY TURNED THE FURNACE UP SEVEN TIMES HOTTER

THAN IT WAS BEFORE.

SEE, SOMETIMES WHEN YOU FIRST INITIALLY TAKE A STAND TO DO

WHAT'S RIGHT, SITUATIONS CAN GET WORSE.

AND THAT'S SOMETHING YOU NEED TO KNOW, OTHERWISE THE DEVIL'S

GOING TO SCREAM IN YOUR EAR, "WELL, THAT DIDN'T WORK."

HOW MANY OF YOU HAVE HAD THAT HAPPEN?

YOU MADE A RIGHT CHOICE AND THINGS HAVE GOTTEN WORSE?

SO, THREE MEN IN THE FURNACE.

LET'S LOOK AT VERSE 24, "THEN NEBUCHADNEZZAR THE KING (SAW

AND) WAS ASTONISHED, SO MUCH SO THAT HE JUMPED UP AND SAID TO

THE COUNSELORS, 'DID WE NOT PUT THREE MEN IN THE FURNACE

BOUND?'" SAY, "BOUND."

AUDIENCE: BOUND.

JOYCE: "'INTO THE MIGHT OF THE FIRE?'

AND THEY ANSWERED, 'TRUE, O KING.'

AND HE ANSWERED, 'BEHOLD, I SEE FOUR MEN.'"

[AUDIENCE APPLAUDING]

JOYCE: BUT HERE'S THE REALLY GOOD PART.

"I SEE FOUR MEN LOOSE."

NOW, HERE'S THE MESSAGE THAT I THINK THIS BRINGS.

YOU CAN ACTUALLY--GOD CAN USE THE FURNACE OF AFFLICTION TO SET

YOU FREE FROM BONDAGES.

THAT HAS TO BE WHAT IT MEANS.

THEY WENT IN BOUND, AND IN THE FURNACE, THERE WAS A FOURTH MAN

THAT WE KNOW WAS JESUS.

AND IN THAT TROUBLE, IN THAT PROBLEM, THEY WERE SET FREE

AND LOOSED FROM THEIR BONDAGES.

AND THEN IT GOES ON TO SAY, "WHEN THEY CAME OUT, THEY DIDN'T

EVEN SMELL LIKE SMOKE."

AND I LOVE THAT BECAUSE I LOOK BACK AT EVERYTHING THAT I WENT

THROUGH FROM MY CHILDHOOD, AND YOU GUYS RECOGNIZE THIS,

THIS IS NOT JUST MY STORY.

WE'VE ALL GOT STORIES LIKE THIS.

EVERYTHING THAT I WENT THROUGH, AND MAN, I DON'T EVEN SMELL

LIKE SMOKE.

[AUDIENCE APPLAUDING]

JOYCE: COME ON, AND IF YOU HAVEN'T

ARRIVED AT THAT PLACE YET, YOU'RE ON YOUR WAY, AMEN?

YOU ARE ON YOUR WAY.

AND HERE AGAIN, WHEN THE KING SAW THE GREAT AND MIGHTY THINGS

THAT GOD DID, HE MADE A RULING AND A DECREE THAT NOBODY COULD

SERVE ANY GOD EXCEPT THE GOD OF SHADRACH, MESHACH, AND ABEDNEGO.

NOW, SEE, THIS IS WHAT I'M TRYING TO SAY TODAY.

WE ARE ALIVE IN THIS DAY AND HOUR ON PURPOSE.

YOU DON'T JUST POP UP ON THE PLANET AT SOME RANDOM TIME.

GOD HAS ORDAINED THAT WE BE ALIVE NOW, AND SO WHATEVER IS

HAPPENING TODAY, WE'RE PART OF IT, AND WE HAVE GOT WHAT IT

TAKES TO STAND STRONG AND BE A WITNESS FOR JESUS IN THIS HOUR.

GINGER: YOU KNOW, IT IS A FACT THAT NO MATTER WHAT YOU

DO, SOME PEOPLE JUST AREN'T GOING TO LIKE YOU.

AND IF YOU'RE LIKE ME, YOU CAN TAKE A LITTLE BIT OF COMFORT

IN THAT FACT.

AND SOMETIMES, STANDING UP FOR WHAT WE BELIEVE AS CHRISTIANS

WILL MAKE PEOPLE DISLIKE YOU.

BUT IF WE DO THAT, PERHAPS SOME PEOPLE WILL SEE THE LIGHT OF

JESUS, AND THAT'S WORTH ALL OF IT.

SO, SOMETIMES FITTING IN IS NOT ALL IT'S CRACKED UP TO BE.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW IS WHAT GOD'S WORD SAYS ABOUT YOU,

AND WE HAVE SOME RESOURCES TODAY THAT WILL HELP YOU REALLY MAKE

THAT A PART OF YOUR LIFE.

LET IT SINK INTO YOUR HEART.

SO, THIS BOOK IS CALLED "THE APPROVAL FIX."

THIS IS A GREAT LITTLE HARDCOVER BOOK THAT'S A SIMPLE READ,

AND EVERYTHING IN HERE IS REALLY GOING TO HELP YOU TO GET PAST

THAT DESIRE OF FITTING IN, THAT DESIRE TO PLEASE EVERYONE BEFORE

GOD, 'CAUSE THAT'S NOT REALLY HOW LIFE WORKS.

AND THEN ALONG WITH THAT, WE ARE OFFERING THIS TEACHING

FROM JOYCE.

IT'S CALLED, "BREAKING FREE OF THE PEOPLE PLEASING HABIT."

IT'S A SINGLE TEACHING, BUT BOTH OF THESE TOGETHER ARE LIKE

A POWER-PACKED PUNCH THAT ARE REALLY GOING TO HELP YOU GET

MARY FROM MARYLAND SAID, "I SAY THE PRAYER SEVERAL TIMES A DAY.

IT CALMS ME.

I USED TO SAY IT OUT OF HABIT AND DIDN'T PAY ATTENTION TO

THE MEANING.

I SAY IT NOW AS A BLESSING AND A DAILY REMINDER FOR ME TO LIVE

IN HIS WORD."

THAT IS BEAUTIFUL AND IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT.

New Jupiter Weirdness From Juno - Duration: 4:18.

It's been almost a year since Juno first got to Jupiter, and ever since, the probe's

been sending back incredible photos and data for scientists to analyze.

Now, the mission team has finally announced Juno's first findings in a couple of papers

published last week in the journal Science.

And just these first results are totally changing the way we think about Jupiter.

We're learning more about things like the planet's atmosphere, internal structure,

and magnetic fields.

And a lot of it is totally unexpected!

Part of the reason Juno's results are so surprising is that the probe is studying Jupiter

in ways we've never been able to before.

It's armored against the powerful radiation around the planet, allowing it to skim just

5000 kilometers above the cloud tops.

And unlike most spacecraft, which usually travel around a planet's equator, Juno's

orbit takes it over Jupiter's poles.

From our first good look at these regions, we've learned that Jupiter's famous red

and white stripes disappear completely.

Instead, the poles have a mess of enormous cyclones.

A lot of them are as big as the largest storms we've ever seen on Earth.

Jupiter's poles are also home to the solar system's largest auroras, the beautiful

light displays that happen when electrically charged particles strike the upper atmosphere.

And thanks to Juno, we're learning that some of our assumptions about how they work

were totally wrong.

On Earth, these particles come from the solar wind rushing out of the sun.

Most of them are deflected by Earth's magnetic field, but some leak through and strike the

poles to create the northern and southern lights.

Until now, we assumed that the process on Jupiter was pretty similar.

But Juno found that the particles that create auroras on Jupiter move differently — they

seem to be pulled up from the atmosphere.

Even Jupiter's magnetic field turns out to be full of surprises.

Juno found that it's ten times stronger than the one su rrounding us here on Earth.

We knew Jupiter's magnetic field would be strong,

but we didn't know it would be that strong.

And that's not the only weird thing we've just learned about the magnetic field.

Generally, the farther you are from a planet, the weaker its field becomes, but Juno found

major exceptions to this rule.

Jupiter's magnetic field is kind of … bumpy.

It's stronger than you'd expect in some places, and weaker in others.

Astronomers think the variation comes from the planet's dynamo, which is an awesome

name for the conductive fluids sloshing around in a planet's core.

A dynamo seems to be what creates planetary-scale magnetic fields.

The fluid in Earth's dynamo is molten iron, but the interiors of the gas giants are a

lot different from rocky worlds like ours.

Juno's observations suggest that Jupiter's dynamo consists of an enormous region of liquid,

electrically conductive hydrogen.

You'd normally think of hydrogen as a gas, but the ridiculously strong pressure inside

Jupiter compresses it into a liquid.

It takes more than just measuring the magnetic field to understand the planet's interior, though.

That's why Juno has been mapping out Jupiter's gravitational field.

Just like a magnetic field, gravity generally gets weaker the farther away you are from

a planet.

But if a planet's mass isn't distributed evenly, that'll affect the strength of its

gravitational field in different places.

So, small variations in the gravitational field can point to inconsistencies within the planet.

Astronomers measure a planet's gravity by tracking the speed of the spacecraft itself.

If there's a stronger gravitational field somewhere, the extra pull will make Juno go faster.

By mapping these speeds, researchers can figure out how matter is distributed inside Jupiter,

going all the way down to the center.

And that's where they found another surprise.

Astronomers used to think that if Jupiter had a solid core at all,

it was probably pretty small.

Instead, Juno's measurements imply that the core is much larger and more spread out

than we thought.

It might even be partially dissolved in the liquid hydrogen around it.

Gravity isn't the only way Juno's designed to look deep into Jupiter.

Its microwave detectors can measure the radiation emitted by molecules hundreds of kilometers

below the visible clouds.

And Juno discovered something both remarkably familiar and weirdly different down there:

big looping structures called Hadley cells.

On Earth, air circulating in Hadley cells is responsible for tropical rainforests and

the east-west trade winds that help ships move across the oceans.

On Jupiter, these cells seem to be made up of huge, ammonia-filled currents that move

separately from the clouds that make up the planet's stripes.

They're an early sign that the deep atmosphere is way more complex than we thought.

That's just one of the things that Juno is slated to continue studying into next year.

Eventually, radiation will start to damage the probe's instruments and contaminate

the collected data, and the mission will have to end.

But by that point, we'll have tons of new data about Jupiter — including detailed

maps of what's going on inside the planet.

And that's exactly what scientists need to start solving all these new mysteries.

Steph Curry Debuted His New Sneaker and It Didn't Get Roasted - Duration: 1:51.

Hey everyone, for Complex News, I'm Justin Block.

So while Steph Curry didn't get into an on-court showdown with Rihanna last night,

he did have a pretty good start to the NBA Finals.

Strapped up for the debut performance of his new signature sneaker, the Curry 4, he scored

28 points and hit six three-pointers in the Warriors' Game 1 win over the Cavs.

Curry had a great game and took home the W, and perhaps more importantly, did so in a

pair of sneakers that, for a change, didn't get roasted.

For Curry, that's another win in and of itself.

The new Curry 4 in white looked sleek and clean on foot, and its icy blue sole definitely

helped turn some heads.

In fact, it actually got many positive reviews from fans online, and the timeline deemed

the sneaker good enough to avoid an avalanche of memes ripping on the Curry 4.

One could even say that people were thirsty to get their hands on a pair. which never

happens with Curry's infamously ugly sneakers.

If you don't recall, Curry's sneakers have been dragged twice in two years.

Last June, when the Curry 2 low Chef model came out, memes putting the dad sneaker on

blast came flying onto timelines everywhere.

Symbolically, it became the unofficial sneaker for old white dads across the United States.

Never has a sneaker been dragged in such a savage manner.

That was, until the oxblood leather Curry 3's came out in April.

These were so bad that they were compared to couches, viewed as natural-fitting peg

legs for couches, and even seen as the perfect interior for your crappy car.

A few weeks later, Under Armour decided to slash the price of the disappointingly ugly

Curry 3, because nobody was buying them.

The company said there was an "inventory inbalance," and that its footwear sales

had slowed, in part, because the Curry 3 was so unpopular.

With the Curry 4, however, it looks like Under Armour might finally have a dope sneaker for

their title-winning superstar.

That's the news for now, but for all the latest on Steph Curry's kicks, be sure to subscribe

to Complex on YouTube today.

IF YOU'RE ALIVE IN 30 YEARS, IT'S LIKELY YOU WILL BE ALIVE IN 1, - Duration: 14:49.

IF YOURE ALIVE IN 30 YEARS, ITS LIKELY YOU WILL BE ALIVE IN 1,000 YEARS

It might sound crazy to the masses, but life extension is a real thing. The science, also

known as anti-aging medicine, indefinite life extension, experimental gerontology, and biomedical

gerontology, is the study of slowing down or reversing the processes that create aging.

The result? Maximum and average lifespan extended. The question is, do we need tech? Or should

we begin to look at why our life spans arent already longer?

If you try to envision it, you might find yourself lost in a futuristic sci-fi film

youve already seen. But its more than a concept fit for the silver screen. Life

extension is a very real science, and is currently being worked on as you read this.

According to some scientists, we are mere decades away from moving into life extension,

which could change life as we know it forever.

Among those working avidly on the science is Ray Kurzweil, the chief engineer at Google.

Kurzweil says we are approaching a time when humans will begin to significantly prolong

their lifespans. He suggests that, by the time we have done so, we wont have to worry

about issues like supporting growing numbers of humans, because we will no longer be living

in a world competing for finite resources.

For instance, he says, Well within 15 years, say, well be able to meet all of our energy

needs from solar. And at that point, we will be using one part in 10,000 of the sunlight

that falls on the Earth. He also believes that, by then, we will have worked through

the resource-related limiting factors currently stymying scientists and activists

around the world.

If you think about being younger for longer, its a hard concept to visualize. With cells

and DNA edited, and the regrowth of telomeres bringing back a youthful state, its a concept

many people long for, but believe impossible. But its certainly already happening.

Increasing your life expectancy can be done just by eating the right foods, meditating,

and taking part in regular exercise. Perhaps you would have died at 90, but such lifestyle

changes tack on a year or two. Understanding the way these lifestyle factors, along with

genetic therapy, function, makes maintaining youth and health for much longer a more realistic

goal than you might think.

Will we, then, eventually die? Even this question cannot be answered, as we are bending the

rules and finding new avenues to change what we know about life and death every day. Perhaps

there could be a day when death is not absolute.

The advancement of computer technologies has opened the doors to so many once-unfathomable

possibilities. We have, undoubtedly, seen advancement in ways science once deemed impossible,

like 3D printers providing medicine with coded blueprints.

The explosion in exponential technologies like augmented and virtual realities makes

life extension entirely tangible, according to Kurzweil: Our experiences will be limited

only by our imagination and the very expansion of our neocortex so we can create and experience

more profound music and art and science and literature and relationships. I dont think

life will get boring.

Pay close attention to how small advancements accumulate to make life extension nearer and

nearer, because its happening yesterday, today, and tomorrow, and many scientists swear

by it happening much sooner than one would ever imagine.

Why Our Lifespans Might Be Shorter Than Whats Possible

What if the human body was designed to live hundreds of years, but due to our diets, way

of living, environmental toxins and so forth we deteriorate much more quickly? This is

certainly a thought we must explore before we head aggressively into the tech side of

life extension without addressing what may be

the biggest cause: poor habit, faulty science and information around health and human life.

This is obviously a philosophical thought but

it

has merit given the way our modern lifestyles are. There is much evidence to support this

idea and will be explored in an upcoming story.

Top 5 Easiest Heroes To Play In Overwatch - Duration: 11:45.

Hello, everybody!

Disciple here with Overwatch Curios!

One of the most common questions asked about overwatch by new players is: "What are the

easiest Hereos to play?"

seems simple enough but it's actually a pretty loaded question.

There are some heroes that have a forward kit and are pretty easy to pick up, but then

their skills cap scales quickly when going beyond the basics.

There are some with confusing abilities and ultimates that require attention, but with

some practice become second nature and seem even easier than the previous example.

Today, I want to take a look at the top 5 easiest heroes to play spanning both the pick

up and play mentality as well as the higher tier of that hero's abilities.

Basically a balance between the two extremes.

Just for clarity, easy does not equal bad or useless.

These are just the easiest heroes to play and get to a higher level.

Let's get started!

D.Va is an aggressive flank tank and bruiser that can be great at just about any tier of

play.

Her kit is very direct and focuses on getting right up in the enemy's face, doing some damage,

throwing them off, then being able to mitigate incoming fire and get out before things get

to hairy.

The breakdown of her kit is straightforward.

Short range rapid fire guns with infinite ammo allow the D.Va player to put up-close

pressure on a wide range of targets, especially backline healers and squishies.

They do a ton of damage up close and the time saved by not having to reload them contributes

directly to her dps.

A variable-time cooldown defense matrix for mitigating damage which blocks any projectiles

in its conal range.

Great for reducing incoming damage to the team, D.Va herself, and eating nearly all

of the ultimates in the game since most of them are projectiles themselves; it just takes

some timing work and you'll be golden at it in no time.

Mech Boost for getting the mech in and out of combat as well as knocking enemies back

and around while they are trying to aim.

Also really good for chasing down fleeing enemies.

Her Q is a fire and forget massive explosion that clears areas and takes down anyone bad

enough to not be in cover, great for overtime pushes and combos with other heroes ultimates!

So, what makes D.Va easy to play is that straightforward playstyle we talked about before.

She's got great damage that doesn't take any real concentration or skill to pull of.

Just get close and open up in the targets general direction while melting heroes that

are 200 HP or less with very little effort.

Her boost can be mastered with a little timing practice and is so multifaceted that using

it becomes frequent and easy; get in, get out, ram people off cliffs and while they

are ulting.

Your job is to flank and get in the enemy backlines face and disrupt as much as possible.

Once the enemy team starts focusing you, simply back away with Defense Matrix holding off

the incoming damage, and boosting to safety.

Even if you DO get reduced to 0, you pop out of your mech and you are then given sort of

an extra life as pilot d.va, otherwise nicknamed baby dva.

A small hitbox and surprisingly powerful pistol actually makes baby dva a force to be reckoned

with and while she is fragile, she can dodge and get to cover pretty easily.

Just in time to call down another mech and repeat

the process.

Out of all the healers Lucio is by far the easiest to play, and happens to be one of

the best picks you could make in almost any league or match type.

First and foremost, his heals are passive.

You literally have to turn on the healing song and be within range of the team.

That's it.

You can even boost up the heals with Amp it Up, which enhances the current song lucio

is playing.

When everyone's all healed up, you can switch songs with one more mouse click to make everyone

faster and much harder to hit.

Using that boost in this song makes them super fast and is great for getting into and out

of situations.

His wall riding used to be a higher skill art to master, but recently has been "buffed"

so-to-speak to be much more forgiving on the surfaces it clings to, as well as giving Lucio

a speed buff to boot.

So mobility isn't an issue for the healing dj.

His ultimate ability couldn't be easier; all you have to do is get in range of your team,

press Q, and everyone has a huge shield buff for a few seconds allowing the team to push,

retreat, or wombo with ease.

All these factors combine to make a super easy-to-play hero that synergized well with

any comp.

His damage is even fairly decent if you can hit your targets adding a bit of support to

the overall elimination effectiveness of the team; his alternate fire knocks enemies back

interrupting an attack and even removing threats by knocking them off cliffs and into deadly

cross fires..

Lucio's speed, constant contribution to the team, and overall simple kit design make

him a must-pick as well as mega easy to pick up and play!

Winston is a fantastic tank choice for players who want to be able to easily defend the objective

while not requiring pesky aiming to be a factor in their playstyle.

Winston is a tank whose primary kit revolves around a more stationary type defensive posture.

His shield is a placed-item that forms a dome around a medium-sized area.

It can be thrown down to protect allies from incoming fire, or to cordon off a turret or

stationary defense area that might get wiped by heavy fire.

Winston himself has a ton of hitpoints, yet seems a bit squishier than the other tanks,

and the shield helps balance this out as well.

His weapon is pure EZ-Mode.

The tesla cannon fires in a small arch in front of winston and latches on to enemies

in that area without the need to be very accurate.

Just wave it around in their direction and you are bound to hit SOMEONE and take them

down pretty quickly.

If you need to get into or out of a spot quickly, his leap ability will launch him a great distance

into the air and come down hard on enemies beneath him You just aim yourself and jump!

His ultimate makes things even easier by increasing his hit points, melee damage, and jump damage,

as well as knocking enemies back while he swings his arms around.

Granted, it does remove the tesla gun out of the equation, but makes up for it in sheer

overwhelming presence and in-you-face damage that will disrupt the enemy's push or hold.

There's really not too much else to say about winston.

He is super easy to pick up and play and is a great starting tank for those interested

in the protection role.

However, he's rarely picked at higher levels of play *because* of his simplicity and more

focused style.

Many players have begun to take on a more aggressive role when playing winston which

only takes a bit of skill and adjustment of the placement of abilities, but either way,

he's an easy hero to play and actually a lot of fun once you get used to him!

Bastion's kit is extremely easy simply because he is focused on only one mentality: deal

as much damage as possible while staying alive as long as possible.

This focus extends to his kit which includes his recon form, great for moving around and

doing damage while getting from point A to point B. While not his highest DPS, a mobile

bastion is extremely dangerous and very easy to use.

His other form in the kit is Sentry mode.

He transforms into a stationary gatling cannon with a ton of ammo able to rip through armor,

shields, and heroes like they were made of wet paper towels.

All you have to do is find a good spot, and hold primary fire to make the enemy team scatter

in every direction and look for the best way to kill you.

In either form, Bastion can use his self repair heal to keep himself alive and going at any

time.

It's not the strongest heal in the game, but it definitely keeps the player in the

game longer and is easily supplemented with health packs.

Bastion's ultimate is devastating and direct.

Transform into a tank and lob shells at the enemy until they fall down.

Works great by itself or in conjunction with other ultimates like graviton surge or mei's

blizzard.

The only real challenge to Bastion's kit is his weakness while stationary and the constant

attention the players gets from the enemy for just being bastion.

It's their goal to kill you as fast as possible, so utilizing your ability to quickly transform

and move around after a kill or two is important, but not very hard to master.

Bastion's stationary nature and high damage output make him the target for aggressive

chat, and internet jokes all over the place, but let's face it, he is super easy to play

and get kills on, so it's not really a surprise.

If you want to do a truck ton of damage, get many kills, and probably a play of the game

or two as easily as possible, pick bastion.

The absolute easiest kit in the game to play is undoubtedly Torbjorn's.

The dwarven engineer is built around ease-of-use and supplementing his primary weapon: the

automatic turret.

Simply place it down, build it up, and then chill while your turret does the work.

It's got a decent rate of fire, good health pool, especially if the torbjorn is babysitting

it, and auto locks as soon as an enemy is within line of sight.

If that is too easy and boring for you, then you can step out from behind the turret and

collect scrap, drop armor packs for your team, and fire either a long-range molten shot of

slag, or a close-range shotgun burst right to the face.

Both of which are quite damaging and supplement the turret very well.

In the past, Torbjorn used to have to have scrap for everything.

Building turrets, upgrading turrets, dropping armor… but that's since been removed.

So, it's even EASIER to drop another turret after once gets blown up, making your downtime

all but negligible.

Only real downside: He's got a low health pool.

But as long as you're around the team and giving yourself armor packs, you should be

okay.

His ultimate makes it even easier to work with the dwarf because if amplifies his health,

the turrets health, and the turrets damage output.

Pop this and go haam, or just sit back and swing your hammer at the turret to keep it

alive and maximize its damage uptime during your ult.

There is literally nothing complicated about torbjorn and he's pretty effective in a

lot of situations.

If you want EZ mode to the max, this is it.

And there you have it, folks.
