TERRI: Did you know that the average American watches
six hours of television every day. They say by the
time your 60 years old, that's 15 years of your life
glued to the television, or as I like to say, watching other
people live their dreams. I want to talk to you
today about you getting serious about your future,
conquering procrastination and living your dreams.
(Music)
TERRI: Hi, I'm Terri Savelle Foy and you're watching
Live Your Dreams. I pray that as you invest in yourself today,
you'll be captivated and catapulted to live your dreams.
A lot of times, we wait for other people to come along and
encourage us and tell us that we've heard from God, our dream
isn't crazy. I always tell people you have to remember God
hasn't necessarily told them what he's told you about your
future, so you have to build yourself up to achieve your
dreams. In fact, Dr. Daniel Amen has this 184060 rule. He said,
"When you're 18, you worry what everybody thinks about you. When
you're 40, you don't care what anybody thinks about you. When
you're 60, you realize nobody's been thinking about you."
They're too busy thinking about their own life, so you just have
to get serious about what God has put in your heart to
achieve. I heard this story a couple years ago that I thought
was so awesome, and it was about this little boy named Monte
Roberts. Monte grew up a very poor kid. In fact, he grew up
living on the back of a truck. He said his dad was a horse
trainer, and he just went from town to town training horses. He
said he was barely in the same school district from one year to
the next. One day, he's sitting in class and the teacher said,
"I want all of you to write a paper on what you want to be
when you grow up." Monte said he really thought about it. He put
a lot of time and attention into this paper. He wrote on there,
he said, "I want to raise thoroughbred race horses." He
said, "I want to have a huge house. I want to have this big
race track." He said he drew little bunk houses and tack
rooms all over this paper. He turned it into the teacher. She
graded it and handed it back to him. When he got his paper, this
is what it said, "F. See me after class." He was devastated.
He went up to the teacher. He said, "Why did I fail this
paper?" She said, "Listen, Monte, you're a poor kid. You
live on the back of a truck." She said, "It's my job as a
teacher to not let you grow up and be disappointed." She said,
"Do you even know what land costs in the Valley? You say
you're going to have a house in the Valley. Do you even know
what it costs?" He said, "No, ma'am." She said, "Then go back
and rewrite your paper and I'll give you a better grade." He
said he went home. He was devastated. He shared it with
his dad. He said, "Dad, what do I do?" He said his dad said to
him, he said, "Monte, I can't tell you what to do, but
whatever you decide, it's going to affect the rest of your
life." He said he thought about it, went to class the next
morning, and he turned in the very same paper to the teacher,
and he said to her, "You keep the F. I'm keeping my dream." I
love that. Don't you? You can keep the F. Today, Monte Roberts
has that very paper framed in his 4,000 square foot home in
the Valley, where has 200 acres where he raises those
thoroughbred race horses. In one year alone, he made 6 million
dollars. "You keep the F. I'm keeping my dream." What is God
speaking to you about your future? Have you allowed people
to talk you out of it? Have you allowed your age to talk you out
of it? Maybe you feel like you've made too many mistakes.
You've missed opportunities. I believe God's speaking to you
today to get your dreams back. Get that vision back. Get that
fire back to do something with the life God's given you. I like
to study successful people. Every person that I study,
Martin Luther King, John F. Kennedy, Bill Gates. You look at
Jim Carrey, Mary Kay. I never knew she had so much hair, but
Mary Kay, you look at all of these people. What do they have
in common? Every single one of them spent a certain amount of
time thinking, dreaming, and imagining their future. You have
to do the same thing. Do you know that your imagination is a
gift that God has given you? He gave you this gift. In fact, he
said in Genesis 11:6 that nothing you have imagined you
can do will be impossible for you. When people are successful,
everybody wants to know, "What's your secret? What's your
secret?" Like I said, every successful person I study, the
ones I know, and the success I've experienced in my life, it
came about from giving myself permission to dream. You have to
dream, think, and imagine yourself succeeding before you
ever achieve it. Literally, what I mean is going in another room
by yourself and just imagine it. Imagine yourself paying off that
debt. Maybe you have a student loan, and it's 10 years later,
and you're still paying the minimum payment. You got to
imagine that thing being completely paid off before you
ever do it. Albert Einstein said, "Your imagination is
everything." He said, "It's simply a preview of life's
coming attractions." Give yourself permission to dream. I
like what John Maxwell said. He said, "The primary reason most
people don't get what they want is they don't know what they
want." Mark Twain said the same thing. He said, "I can teach
anybody how to get what they want in life. Problem is, I
can't find anybody who can tell me what they truly want." What
do you want? What if Jesus, Himself, showed up today and
said, "Tell me what you want." What is a successful year to
you. I've got this target year. You think about, you've heard
that phrase, "If you aim at nothing, you'll hit it every
time." Napoleon Hill, he did research on the major cause of
failure. He said he analyzed 100 people, and he discovered 98 out
of the 100 had no aim. They had no target. How many people enter
a new year with no target, with no goals, with no vision or
dream for their lives? I always tell people, "Just imagine that
it's December 31st and you've got your party hat on, and
you're with your friends, and you say to your friends, 'This
has been the most amazing year of my life.' What needs to
happen for you to say something like that?" Whatever it is,
write it down. Write the vision. That's how you get clarity on
what you want to accomplish. Number one, imagine your future.
Number 2 is take the time to write your dreams. Think about
that. If you aim at nothing, you'll hit it every time. You
have to write the vision. Remember this. Vision always
comes first. Ideas come later. Vision comes first. Provision
comes later. If you sit around trying to figure out how you're
going to achieve that dream, you'll talk yourself out of it.
You have to take the time to write the vision. I wrote a book
called Imagine Big where I teach you how to stretch your
imagination, how to think outside the realm of
possibility, and how to start going after your big dreams. I
wrote a story about a guy named John Goddard, who he said, at 15
years old, he's just a young boy, and he said so many times
he would hear his father and his father's friends. They'd come
over for dinner and he would hear them talking about all
their regrets, all the things they wish they would have done
when they were younger. At 15 years old, he thought, "I'm not
going to come to the end of my life and have nothing but
regret." He said, "I just got out a piece of paper and I just
started writing everything I wanted to accomplish in my
lifetime." He wrote big things. He said, "I'm going to visit
more than 100 countries. I'm going to meet world leaders,
including the Pope. I'm going to visit the Great Wall of China,
explore the Nile River. I'm going to ride a horse in the
Rose Bowl Parade." He said, "I'm going to learn to fly different
airplanes." He wrote every goal he wanted to achieve, 127 goals.
He's in his 60s now, and he's done 115 of the 127 things he
set out to do. Well Habakkuk 2:2 he says, "Write the
vision, make it plain." This is where you get clear on your
goals. You've heard the phrase that vague goals produce vague
results. It's not enough to just keep it in your head. You have
to get it on paper. Number one, imagine your future. Number two,
write the vision. Make it plain. Number three, keep it before
your eyes. Proverbs 23:7 says, "As a man thinks in his heart,
so is he." That's a principle from the word of God that you
become what you behold. Let me just share this example with
you. Years ago, the Lord put it on my heart to start a women's
conference called Icing. I just thought I was hungry, but the
Lord told me, "No, that's the name of the conference." I
looked up the word icing, and it actually means something added
to something good to make it even better. I like that, don't
you? Cake is good, but the icing makes it so much better. I was
getting ready to launch this vision, and I was meeting with
my team to share my vision with them. I said, "I need a picture
of me preaching to thousands of people because I want my team to
know I don't see 20 women in a little room. I see coliseums
full. I see arenas full of thousands of women. I said to
one of the guys that works with me, I said, "Can you print out a
picture of me preaching to thousands of people?" He said,
"Well, there's only one problem. You've never preached to
thousands of people." I said, "Well, can you make one?" So he
did. He went to Joyce Meyer's Conference and he printed out
this picture of the Joyce Meyer Conference. However, he took
little Joyce off the stage and he put little Terri on the
stage. Then he took Joyce Meyer off the back there and then he
put Icing with Terri Savelle Foy. He even put my head on top
of Joyce's body on the big screen so I'm wearing Joyce's
shirt here. He just chopped her head off, put my head. He
printed this out and we just laughed and thought this was the
cutest thing. Little Terri, little Joyce. I said, "Make
several copies. I want the whole team to know the vision so it's
clear." We printed several copies, passed it out to our
team. Of course, everybody laughed at first and thought
this was so cute. Think about that. I put all of my dreams in
my dream book. I also have a vision board. Every day, when I
look up from my desk, I see vision. Every day, when I pray
over my future, I see vision. The more you look at this, I'm
not just cracking up every time I see this picture. The more you
look at it, you forget it's a fake picture. Then you start to
think it looks real. There's a principle in the word of God.
You become what you behold. Whatever you keep before your
eyes, it will eventually show up in your life. Here's a fake
picture of me preaching to thousands. Here's a real picture
of me preaching to thousands. Whatever you keep before your
eyes, it will eventually show up in your life. When we come back,
I want to tell you the one thing that separates winners from
losers more than anything else. I'll be right back.

TERRI: I heard somebody describe the game
of football as 60,000 people who desperately need exercise
watching 22 men who desperately need rest. They said, "The game
of football is highly indicative of life itself. Most people
watch from the sidelines. Very few people get off the bleachers
and get in the game." I believe you are in the game or you
wouldn't have tuned in to a broadcast called Live Your
Dreams, but I want to teach you not only how to have a vision
and write the vision, but you've also got to keep the vision
before your eyes. You've heard that old phrase, "Out of sight,
out of mind." It really is true. You got to keep the vision
constantly before your eyes. Get a dream book, and every day,
just make it part of your daily routine. It only takes 2
minutes. Get your dream book out and start praying over your
dreams. When your dreams become so real on the inside of you,
when what you see on the inside becomes more real to you than
what you see on the outside, it's just a matter of time.
God's going to bring you ideas, opportunities, resources, and
relationships to achieve your dreams. I've been sharing about
keeping the dream before your eyes, and I want you to know
this came from God's word. This was a strategy that God came up
with, not just man. It wasn't Napoleon Hill. It wasn't Jim
Carrey. This was God's idea. In fact, do you remember the story
in Genesis where Jacob wanted to marry the beautiful girl,
Rachel. He went to his Uncle Laban. He said, "I really want
to marry Rachel. What can I do?" Laban said, "You can work for me
for seven years," so he did. He worked for seven years. The
wedding day comes and his uncle tricked him. He didn't marry
Rachel. He married the older sister, Leah. Jacob was adamant
about marrying Rachel, so he said, "What else can I do?"
Laban said to him, "You can work another seven years." Think
about that. He works 14 years just to marry Rachel. That's
some commitment. Then, all of a sudden, one night, Jacob is
asleep and he has this dream, but in the dream, God begins to
speak to him and He said to him, He said, "Jacob, you've worked
all these years for your uncle. It's time for you to go. Move
off. Take your family somewhere else." He said, "But before you
go, tell Laban that you demand that he give you all the
speckled and spotted cow, sheep, and goat," so he did. He went to
his uncle and he said, "I'm leaving. I'm taking my family.
I'm taking our cattle, but I demand that you give me all the
speckled and spotted cow, sheep, and goat." Laban looks around
the field. All he sees are solid colored cows, so he says to
Jacob, "You got a deal." What Laban didn't realize was God
gave Jacob a strategy. In that dream, He told him, He said, "I
want you to go get a branch." Then He said this. "I want you
to tear off the bark, streak it with a knife, make those
branches look like spots." Then He said this. "I want you to put
those branches in the watering trough so every day when those
solid colored cows are drinking water, they're looking at spots,
looking at spots, looking at spots." Think about that. Then
He said this. "When one of those cows is ready to give birth, I
want you to hold those branches up so that those solid colored
cows are looking at spots." Do you know the solid colored cows
gave birth to speckled and spotted offspring? Think about
that. For no logical reason, other than whatever you keep
before your eyes, it will eventually show up in your life.
Isn't that a powerful principle? When I read that story, I
learned three keys. Number one, this was God's idea. God's the
one who gave Jacob the strategy, so He's the one that wants us to
get a vision and keep it before our eyes. Number two, it ties in
perfectly with the law of attraction, which is basically
Proverbs 23:7. Whatever you keep before your eyes, it will
eventually show up in your life, or some say, "Whatever you keep
before your eyes, you will attract it in your life." Number
3, are you ready for this? If it'll work for a cow, surely
it'll work for us. It's a powerful principle, but you have
to get serious about the dreams and the goals that God's put in
your heart. The next step is you have to take action. I mentioned
before the one thing that separates winners from losers
more than anything else is winners take action. They don't
just sit around and wait for that dream to happen. They get
up and go for it. One of the ways we can start taking action
is just through the art of asking. The Bible says you have
not because you ask not. I read something where the little firm,
McDonald's, where years ago, they trained their staff to ask
one more question when people ordered a hamburger and a drink.
You know what that question was? Would you like fries with that
order? Apparently, a lot of people said, "Sure, why not?"
That single question raised their bottom line more than 20
million dollars, just because they asked. I did a whole
teaching on the art of asking, and there was a guy that I
worked with who heard me teach this. He said, "You know, I have
a student loan." I think the student loan was around $23,000.
He said, "They called and said they were going to start
garnishing my wages. They're going to start taking money out
if I don't pay this thing." He said, "I'm going to ask." He
called them and he said, "What would you settle for?" They
said, "We'll call you back." Ten minutes later, they called back
and said, "We'll take $10,000." Think about that. All because he
asked. One of the reasons or three reasons we don't ask,
number one is ignorance. We didn't know we could ask. We
didn't mean to be ignorant. We just didn't know we could.
Number two is low self esteem. Sometimes we just don't feel
good enough or worthy enough to ask. Number three is a fear of
rejection. We get afraid, thinking, "Well, what if they
turn me down?" I like what success coaches say. When
someone says no, your immediate response should just be next and
you move on. I'm telling you there's certain things you need
to do to take action to get you closer to your dreams. I want
you to think about that in your life. It might mean that you
need to enroll in a class. You might need to start practicing,
taking lessons. You might need to join a gym. You might need to
ask the girl to marry you. Whatever it is, you have to
think about what is it that God's telling you stop waiting,
stop procrastinating. A lot of times, people say, "Some day,
I'm going to get serious about that." I've discovered that some
day is not a day of the week. It doesn't go some day, Monday,
Tuesday. You have to just get serious about it and say, "I'm
not going to procrastinate any longer. I'm going to do what
God's telling me to do." Don't let people talk you out of it.
Don't let your past talk you out of it. Don't let your own head.
There's certain people who will talk you out or drag you out of
the will of God. I'm talking about getting your dreams and
writing them down and keeping them before your eyes, but you
have to be careful who you share your dreams with. Don't share
big dreams with small minds because small minds have a way
of sucking ambition right out of you. You got to be careful who
seems your dreams. The last point I want to say is you have
to expect it. You're going to get in life exactly what you
expect. You think about in the Bible, you remember when the two
blind men came to Jesus, and they said, "Jesus, we want our
sight. Will you heal us?" Jesus put the responsibility back on
them. He didn't just heal them instantly. He put the
responsibility on them and He said, "Do you believe I can do
this?" The Bible shows us that without hesitation they said,
"Yes, Lord." Think about that. Without hesitation, they said,
"Yes, Lord." See, when you get to that place in your life where
you present to the Lord your dreams, your goals, you don't
have a clue how this could ever come to pass, and you just
imagine the Lord saying, "Do you really believe I can do this?"
If you can say without hesitating, "Yes, Lord, I don't
know how you're going to do it, but I trust you," then you've
got the faith to achieve your dreams. The Bible says, "Be it
unto you according to your faith." Not somebody else's
faith, it's up to your faith. Years ago, the Lord said to me,
"Terri, stop saying I trust you with this big question mark.
Start saying I trust you with an exclamation point." You have to
get to that place in your life. If you're not there yet, which I
know some of my big dreams, I want to have that hesitancy to
go, "I don't know how this is ever going to happen," but you
just have to trust the Lord. You need faith. What is the number
one method God has given us to increase our faith. It's faith
comes by hearing. Everything you watch a faith-building broadcast
like this one, faith comes. Isn't that exciting to think
that your faith is stronger right now than it was 30 minutes
ago all because you pushed play, and you're listening to a
faith-building message. Imagine doing that day after day after
day. Just making it a part of your routine. Use your drive
time to build your faith. The most successful people in the
world go to Automobile University. They use their drive
time to grow, to invest in themselves, to build their
faith. You know what? One day, it's all going to pay off. In
fact, have you ever heard of the Chinese bamboo tree? The Chinese
bamboo tree they say that you water it the first year. You
plant the seed, you water it, you fertilize it, and nothing
grows above ground the entire first year. Second year, you
water it, you fertilize it, nothing grows above ground.
Third year, same thing. Fourth year, you water it, you
fertilize it, and nothing grows above ground. However, you ready
for this? In the fifth year, it grows as much as 80 feet above
the ground. Here's what they say. All that time when it
appeared nothing was happening, it was developing this massive
root system in order to handle the growth it's about to have.
The same is happening for you. All the time that you invest
listening to faith-building messages, you're making yourself
read books, like this one, Imagine Big, you're stretching
your imagination, you're giving yourself permission to dream
again. You go in another room by yourself and you start writing
your dreams down. You go on your computer and you print out
pictures of what you're believing God for. Preparation
time is never wasted time. All that time that it appears
nothing's changing, you're developing that massive root
system. Get ready because things are growing to grow at a rapid
rate. You got to be ready for it. In fact, I want to encourage
you. Get my book, Imagine Big. This is going to teach you. It's
unlock the secret to living out your dreams. You're going to
learn how to set goals. There's certain ways people set goals,
and it's the wrong way. The way I used to do it, I used to just
write things like save money, lose weight, get closer to God,
clean the house. Vague goals produce vague results. I'm going
to teach you how to set goals the right way, and then get the
Dreams and Goals Notebook. I've got samples in here of how I
write my goals, how I put pictures in them, and keep them
before my eyes. There's even places in here for you to just
dream as big as you can, imagine five years into the future, but
I want you to fill this out. I want you to give yourself
permission to dream and don't just constantly think of what's
realistic, what could most likely happen. No, dream as big
as you can. God's the one who said, "Nothing you have imagined
you can do will be impossible for you." If you're interested
in getting the entire kit, I encourage you to get this. It
has the Imagine Big book. It has the Dreams and Goals Notebook.
It also has 5 CDs in this little kit. These CDs, I know they're
going to motivate you to go to the next level. One message is
called Can You Imagine. Basically, it's this message,
but in its entirety. There's another one called Clutter Clean
Out where I teach you how to get organized. Years ago, when my
mom and dad, they were just learning about the word of
faith. They had no money, driving a car with, I think it
had over 100,000 miles. It might have been 200. They said they
were living in a house that was just about to be condemned, and
my mom's wearing cut-down maternity dresses. One day, my
mom's got her laundry. She's walking into the guest bedroom
to throw the laundry on the bed. When we needed something, she'd
pull it out. One day, she heard three powerful words from the
Lord. You know what He said? "Finish your laundry." She
thought, "Come again?" The Lord began to teach her. "You didn't
finish your laundry because you threw it on the bed." He said,
"Finish what you start. Take care of what you got, and I'll
bless you with better." That's a powerful principle. I teach you
how to start getting the clutter cleaned up in your life because
when you tackle it in the small areas, it leads to the bigger
areas, like the book maybe God told you to write. One's on You
Get What You Ask For. I teach you the art of asking. One's on
Conquering Procrastination. It's time for you to get past all the
excuses. Then one's on How to Develop Your Desire to Go After
Your Dreams. I'm challenging you today. Someone described me the
other day before they introduced me. They said, "Terri's going to
give you a real sweet kick in the pants," but I hope you're
motivated. In fact, I want to challenge you. Don't look at all
those years you've lost. Look at the years you got left and start
living your dreams. It's not too late. You haven't made too many
mistakes. You haven't missed your golden opportunities. God
is speaking to you today. He's not speaking to everybody else
but you. He's speaking right to you today, and he's saying,
"Give yourself permission to dream," because if you can dream
it, God can do it. It's time for you to live your dream.
