Hello everyone! Welcome to my channel Books&Bobs, my name is Rob and today
I am bringing you the accents book tag! I saw this tag over on Sajed's channel
Books are my Social Life so I will leave a link up in the I to him there if you
are interested in finding more out about him. He is a booktuber from the Caribbean
I want to say and he has a really interesting accent! And one comment that
I get a lot on a lot of my videos are the fact that people love my accent and
I'm from Ireland so Irish people tend to be known for their accents and that's why
this tag was pretty interesting to me! Because you know obviously I can't hear
my accent but I thought it'd be interesting to kind of do something to
see, you know, colloquial terms that we have here that other people might use. I
feel like a lot of them are quite funny particularly in Limerick and also just
to say things the way that I say them and compare them to other people. So
without further ado let's get started! Okay so this is quite a long tag and
it's separated into two parts. The first part has a bunch of words that are kind
of just strung together that you are to say so I'll list them over here while
I'm saying them so you can see exactly what I'm trying to say. In case I say
them in a really odd way. And the second thing is kind of like a string of about
seven questions describing a thing without saying the actual thing so
basically finding out what we call like things here colloquially. So I am
definitely gonna get started so let's start with the words! I'm gonna be
looking at my iPad as well so forgive me if I'm looking down.
So the list of words wash, oil, theatre, sure, data, ruin, crayon, toilet, spitting image,
syrup, Aunt, roof, route, iron, salmon, caramel, fire, water, New Orleans, pecan,
both, again, probably, Alabama, lawyer, coupon, mayonnaise, pyjamas, caught,
naturally, aluminium and envelope. I definitely know a few of them that
people say differently particularly like aluminium and aluminium so that's
interesting. So the questions, what is it called when you throw toilet paper on a
house? teepee'ing! you teepee a house! Isn't that what that's called? when you throw toilet
paper on it, as far as I remember, it's teepee a house. What is the bug that when you
touch it, it curls into a ball. Now this is one that I have a bit of a problem
with. It curls into a ball, a pill, is it a pill bug? I just remember that from
Animal Crossing that like if you walked over them they curled into a ball and
then you couldn't catch them so I think it's a pill bug. What is a bubbly
carbonated drink called? A fizzy drink! That is literally what we call it here, a
fizzy drink! I know people call it like a soft drink
or soda or pop but yeah a fizzy drink! What do you call gym shoes? Runners!
Literally, runners. Or if you're really looking for the Limerick slang, tackies!
We call them tackies here! What do you call your grandparents? I knew my grandma
like until I was about five years old, so I'd call her Nana. And then granddad
would probably have been granddad so Nana and granddad. What do you call the
kind of spider or spider-like creature that has an oval-shaped body and
extremely long legs? So I'm pretty sure that this is a daddy longlegs and that's
what we call it here a daddy longlegs! So I can't think of any other creature that
that could be! What do you call the wheeled contraption in which you carry
groceries at the supermarket? A trolley! And people like to steal trolleys. What
is the thing you change the TV channel with? I call it the remote or the remote
control for the TV. But a lot of people here in Limerick and
in Ireland pretty much call it the switcher. Like the the switcher for the,
for the channel you know. What do you call it when rain falls when the sun is
shining. Sun shower... I think Sajed said a rainbow, but yeah a sun shower!
What do you say to address a group of people? Hey guys, as i always say at the
start of this video! Hey guys or ya know even if it was a group of girls i'd be
like guys, guys, hey how are you?
So thatis it guys
it was a quick tag and pretty interesting. I really like Sajed's
answers but mainly just because I love his accent so much. I'm probably saying
his name really wrong as well so Sajed, if you're watching this I apologize! And
I found that some of your like, colloquial terms were hilarious! I
couldn't stop laughing! So that's what made me want to do this video as well! I
know that Joules over at from page-by-page would love this tag so
I'm going to tag her! I'm gonna tag Cece over at problems of a book nerd and I'm
actually gonna tag Barbara Nalewko who I know from knitting I love. I'm
