Hey guys welcome back to my channel. My name is Natalie and I blog at NatalieBacon.com.
I'm super excited you're here today because I'm gonna share with you
nine things that you should totally stop paying for. Now the key here is that each
individual item isn't going to be like life-changing or anything but it's
supposed to help you switch your mindset from just buying things because you're
used to it out of habit to asking yourself wait do I really need to buy
that and if you kind of implement that mindset and everything you spend your
money on naturally you will find yourself spending less money and having
more margin in your financial life. Okay let's get started. The first thing you
need to stop paying for is bottled water. If you are on a budget of any kind or
have financial goals that you need to reach wasting your money on bottled
water is just not necessary. You can get a Brita filter or some sort of other
filter that you can use in your refrigerator or on your faucet so that
you can have clean water without spending the money and wasting it on
bottled water. The second thing you need to stop paying for are unlimited
memberships so Costco comes to mind or your gym membership or Spotify or Amazon
Prime - anything that you find yourself paying for routinely and you're not
using now that's the key if you save your family a whole bunch of money with
that Costco membership then keep it. But so many people have these memberships
and don't use them. I actually quit my gym I canceled my membership and it was
only $20 a month but I cannot tell you the last time I went to the gym. That is
a conversation for another time but the point here is that I was literally just
throwing $20 away every month just in case I wanted to go. So if you're paying
for any membership on a monthly or annual basis
and you're not actually using it cancel it and save yourself the money. The next
thing you need to stop paying for is paper towels. You can use a cloth rag or
some sort of dish towel that you wash in your washing machine regularly and stop
having to pay for the disposable paper products that are gonna cost you money
over the long run. It's these little costs in your budget that will add up
quickly that you don't really pay attention to because you just think oh
of course I need paper towels well maybe you actually don't. The fourth
thing you need to stop paying for is warranties. I'm super passionate about
this one. I really have yet to hear people tell me that warranties paid out
in the long run. What I always hear is oh I went to use my warranty and it
actually wasn't covered or oh I wanted to do XYZ but I couldn't because of the
warranty bla bla ba ba ba. The warranties rarely rarely are worth the money
so don't even waste your time. The fifth thing you need to stop paying for is
cable. I haven't paid for cable in years I have lost nothing from it I thought
that I would just die not having access to Bravo but it turns out that I can
live without watching The Real Housewives so if you have that one
channel that you're watching I get it but think about that extra money you're
gonna save every single month and how you can use it to put it on your debt or
save money towards some savings goal you have. It's just you you don't need cable
you just don'. The sixth thing you need to stop paying for are overages on your
cell phone bill. There's just no reason for it. You can actually go into your
cell phone and make it so only certain apps can use data. So for example I
listen to a ton of podcasts but it uses data if I don't have them already
downloaded. So I can go into the settings and turn off access to data for
the podcast app if I wanted to. I have unlimited data for this reason
because I always used to go over my allotted internet usage for my phone so
either upgrade your plans switcher plan something but do not pay for overages on
your cell phone bill. There are just too many ways for you to avoid this and
actually just save that money and have it in your pocket. The seventh thing you
need to stop paying for are cleaners for every little type of thing in your house
whether it's a wood cleaner a glass cleaner a table cleaner a kitchen
cleaner a carpet cleaner a clothing cleaner whatever. Think
of like your parents kitchen sink under there and they're just like crap right
there's so many different cleaners you don't need that. Look of how to create a
natural at-home DIY cleaner that's an all-purpose cleaner.
Often times the right mix of lemon juice water and vinegar will do it. You'll save
yourself a ton of money you just don't need to be buying all those different
types of cleaners. The eighth thing you need to stop paying for is pre-cut food.
Anytime you're at the grocery store and you buy something that's like pre sliced
or pre-cut think of the like slice cheese or sliced veggies or sliced fruit
it's always going to be more expensive buying it that way than if you bought it
as the whole food item. So buying a whole watermelon is going to be cheaper than
if you bought sliced watermelon or some sort of like fruit assortment that
sliced already. So make sure you just get in the habit of not buying the pre
sliced items and just pay for whatever it is as a whole food item and you'll
save money. The final thing that you should stop paying for is anything
that's disposable. So think of disposable baggies or containers or travel products
anything that you are constantly replacing and throwing away it's really
just a way for you know the industry to get you to buy more of these products.
Instead find a way to you know do the same thing
with something that you keep. For example instead of using plastic bags for your
food let's say you pack for work you can get containers like tupperware
containers or those glass ones with the covers on top and then put that item in
the dishwasher when you get home and just reuse them instead of continuously
using baggies and throwing them away. Same thing for disposable items like
travel sized things. You can get those little containers and fill them up with
the products you're already using instead of going through all of the
disposable travel sized products. Again it's about switching your mentality from
oh I need these disposable items to oh there's another way to do this and I
actually don't have to spend money on the disposable products. That's it for
this week's video it's meant to inspire you to shift your mindset from
continuously spending money on things without thinking about hey do you really
really need to buy that. Thanks for tuning in please subscribe it means the
world to me every week I appreciate you guys so much so thank you and have a
great week bye bye!
