so here we are during a very special weekend yes

it's Easter I hope you are having a super-duper Easter coming up today we

have lots of chat about chocolate and other sweet things mr. Steve will be

here for the whole two hours talking all about the uses of the word 'set' and of

course you are more than welcome to join in with the live chat after all it's a

Sunday afternoon here in the UK it's just after 2 o'clock it's Easter Sunday

and this is live English

oh oh hello there hi everybody this is mr. Duncan in England how are

you today are you ok I hope so are you happy I really really

hope so I hope you are very happy today because we have a lot of special things

coming up it's a special two hours of live English of course I am here every

dare you do that whilst I'm talking to you for goodness sake put some clothes

on so here we go it's mr. Duncan that's me it's live English for those who don't

know what on earth this is don't panic there is nothing wrong with your

computer I teach English on YouTube and I have been doing it for over 11 years

and I'm here today live yes it's a live special today it's an extra special live

English because it's Easter and it is also a beautiful day let's have a look

and April has arrived yes the month of April has arrived it is the first of

April today of course it is also April Fool's Day and here we have the view

this morning look at that so there is the view that greeted me as I stepped

out of my bed as I shuffled over to the window

open the curtains that is what I saw the actual view looking over the hills and

the forests into the distance so there it is this morning the view from my

window and it is a very nice day today dare I say that it feels a little bit

like spring today it actually feels very spring-like having said that it's still

quite chilly in fact can you believe it there is a forecast for some snow

tomorrow although between you and me I don't think we will get much snow but

apparently we are going to get some snow over the next 24 hours but I don't think

there will be much of it so there it is the view this morning let's have a look

into the distance towards Shrewsbury there it is in the distance you can see

the Cathedral in Shrewsbury looking over oh yes and as you can see the view isn't

too bad it's a little bit misty but it doesn't look too bad so there it is a

lovely spring-like day and the weather is not too bad I hope where you are the

weather is ok as well I hope you are having a super-duper weekend and I hope

you are having a good Easter day as well because it is Easter Sunday and as if we

needed reminding that spring is here there are some daffodils waving in the

distance with some lovely lovely Heather in front of it as well ah looking very

nice so there it is another view from this morning in the garden and of course

we can't have a spring for you without a lovely close-up of the daffodils in the

garden so it is a nice day maybe later I'm not sure I'm not making any promises

because I know I said this last week and we didn't do it but maybe later we

will go out into the garden I'm not sure so please don't quote me on that don't

say Oh mr. Duncan you said you were going into the garden but you didn't but

would you like to hear the sounds of the garden so there you go so we're not

outside just yet but there is a chance that we will be going outside but there

it is can you hear it the sound of spring can you hear the

birds singing in the distance isn't that nice

ah so a lovely spring-like day today of course as I mentioned it is Easter

Easter Sunday lots of things were going on in this local area mr. Steve and

myself were out and about the other day and we went to a very special place in

Much Wenlock it's a little place where we always like to stop off at and I

would like to show you something today something very special and this is

something that I have created myself it is a little thing that I like to call

the puddle dance

it is a Sunday but it is no ordinary Sunday because it is Easter Sunday so a

big hello to all those celebrating Easter and of course a big hi to those

who aren't you don't have to celebrate Easter it isn't the law you know well I

did mention mr. Steve a few moments ago so I suppose I had better press the big

button that allows everyone in the world to see mr. Steve yes ladies and

gentlemen I give you His Royal Highness mr. Steve hello everyone and of course

unusually mr. Duncan I'm here for the full two hours today we heard instead of

coming on at three o'clock so we hello to everybody out there in the world of

English we have a whole two hours of mr. Steve a whole two hours oh my mr. Duncan

what were you doing is splashing around in that puddle of course that's our

special puddle isn't it mr. Duncan that is our very special place mr. Steve and

that is a place where we always stop off at we always stop off at after walking

in because it takes us about 25 minutes to walk in over muddy fields and our

boots are covered in mud particularly after it's been raining at this time of

the year so we like to wash our boots because of course we're going into shops

and we're going into into the tea shop and we don't like to trudge in there

trying with our boots covered in mud no we

don't like to go into someone's someone's business premises with muddy

boots because they they don't like it and of course you might transfer mud

onto the carpet and so we like to wash our boots in puddles basically that the

biggest puddle in Much Wenlock it is no ordinary puddle it is no ordinary puddle

because that's the place we always stop off

yes and that's where I was doing my little poodle dance did you see that I

think that will actually I think that's going to catch on I think the big thing

of summer 2018 will be the puddle dance and if you can't find a puddle you can

always make your own puddle and then then you can have a little dance in it

so I will show you the puddle dance a little bit later on but of course that's

no ordinary puddle because that puddle belongs to someone very famous we have a

few famous people living here in Much Wenlock don't we Steve well nobody's

more famous than you mr. Dave well of course I'm the most famous person who

will ever see much Wayman lot but there are other people as well there is a lady

who used to be on the TV and in movies and she lives right here in Much Wenlock

now here is an interesting story i won't i won't give too much away straight away

because i just want to mention something else steve there was a very special

service taking place wasn't there for Easter in Much Wenlock yes in fact we've

been here for five years I didn't realize that

of course services are taking place all over churches throughout the UK many

other countries as well too to celebrate Easter and Good Friday bringing one in

particular and but what we didn't realize is that these normally take

place sort of with inside a church but obviously in Much Wenlock they've got

this tradition of having an outdoor service of celebration of Good Friday

hmm and if we happen to be there on that when it happened yes it's worth

mentioning that Easter takes place over more than one day so today is Easter

Sunday but there are special celebrations on Good Friday as well and

we happened to stumble across we happen to see one of the celebrations taking

place in the in the square in the the middle of Much Wenlock and

what we didn't realize is that when we arrived that this part of this service

was going to be involved this film star that lives in Much Wenlock ah but you're

giving too much away there let's have a look first of all shut Stephen let's

have a look first of all at the Easter service that took place and then we can

talk about what happened before it and then we can talk very exciting we can

talk about the really exciting bit

so there it is setting the scene on Good Friday and of course setting the

atmosphere for the whole of Easter and there it was in much Wenlock a special

service that took place and we were there at the time but we didn't know

that all of this was going to happen did we Steve we know we didn't we had no

actual idea that this was going to happen so yes I've never seen that

procession through the streets before like that I think they do it every year

we were very lucky it was just pure coincidence that on that day two special

things happen that was one of them we are talking about the other one later

mr. Duncan is hoping I don't give they give the game away no we can talk about

it now all right don't go so excited it's not an official

secret it links back to that puddle yes that puddle again yes that puddle

dooby-dooby-doo so there it was so that's the petal that I was splashing

around in the other day yes but it's no ordinary purple because it belongs to a

famous celebrity well those can you see notice behind mr. Duncan there are some

very big ornate wrought iron gates yes we do obviously look like they're

leading to somewhere very special and they are indeed leading to somewhere

very special they're leading to someone's home they're also leading to

what was the a part of the old Abbey I was hoping you weren't gonna say that I

was thinking that I thought I hope Steve doesn't say exactly where the location

is but well but the thing is we've been splashing in that puddle every time well

during the winter when it's muddy and we need to wash the boots hmm every time

we've been coming too much one look for the last five years yeah and you can go

on mr. Duncan I'll let you continue the story because you've always wanted to

meet this particular person okay so well it happened so first of all we call we

call the purple Gabrielle's lake as a joke as a joke and the reason why it's

it's a joke is because we are playing on words because the person in question is

a very famous actress called Gabrielle Drake and she was in many TV shows over

the years many big TV shows we remember her don't we Steve yeah many many years

ago I was hoping to get some pictures up from her early days but I haven't got

any on the screen so I'll try and put one on later on hopefully I'll try and

get one arranged but yes a very famous actress would you like to see the

photograph well known in the UK because she

actually came out she came out if I gates as we as you were splashing in the

puggles so when I was splashing around in the pebbles can you believe it

she actually came out of the gates and this was not pre-arranged there were two

other people there at the time and they were meeting her and they were meeting

the vicar all outside but we didn't know that was happening we were just washing

our boots in the puddle outside our gates and suddenly she appeared as if by

magic and so I got very excited about the whole thing and asked if it would be

possible to have a photograph taken with her and that's exactly what happened so

here I am looking very pleased with myself so there is the photograph and

there is the very same lady Gabrielle Drake a very famous actress I didn't

want to say exactly where she is but I think Steve's slightly given that away

now but it says on Twitter look who I bumped into today whilst out

walking it's the one and only Gabrielle Drake I've lived in Much Wenlock for

over five years but this is my first time meeting her it's her birthday today

as well so on Friday it was actually her

birthday and I knew it I knew that it was her birthday but I didn't realize I

was going to meet her you knew it was her birthday because you you're on a

Twitter feed that tells you when celebrities birthdays are yes yes in the

morning of the Friday mr. Duncan said Oh risk its Gabrielle's Drake's birthday

today so we sort of laughed about it and then we went in there we saw her and we

said happy birthday she said how do you know it's my birthday she was she was

quite surprised that we knew it was her birthday yeah so I think she was quite

quite overwhelmed by it but she didn't want to have a picture taken with me

first of all which is surprising but but then she realized that that I was mr.

Duncan she says you're mr. Duncan you're the English teacher off YouTube and I

said yes is it well you're even more famous than I am

and I'm an international movie and TV star so I said okay then so she agreed

she agreed to actually have a photograph taken with me and of course she did ask

that I send a photograph to her just to prove that she actually met me you know

I can understand this this happens this is what happens when you get into you

know the public eye you get people bothering you for autographs and

photographs and I get a lot of it yes of course you do mr. Duncan it happened a

lot in China it used to happen all the time in China people would come up to me

and say mr. Duncan off the television oh can we have our photograph taken with

you I was quite I was quite nervous and embarrassed because I mean bearing in

mind she's very well known in this country and she came out and mr. Duncan

was all can I have a picture with you can i I was getting a bit embarrassed

because and she had like a bouncer with her some some great big surly bloke it

wasn't a bounce I think it was her bounce I told you it wasn't a bounce it

was this great big bloke he was sort of snarling at us he was the grounds man he

was looking after her I think to make sure and then lo and behold just as we

were walking off the vicar turned up with his big cross yes and they were

going to apparently go into the grounds of the of the Abbey and have some sort

of photos takers well we saw that earlier didn't we we saw them in the

square as well with the cross and you could see the The Vicar there yeah

exactly and of course the vicar himself was on television about three or four

weeks ago and we met him after as he came over and said hello how are you hmm

he said are you mr. Duncan from YouTube and I said yes I didn't say that

laughing mr. Duncan's ego is gigantic today no he did say that he said mr.

Duncan a scissor I've heard all about your English lessons and can I say that

you are very well blessed and I so needed and I said who have you been

talking to how do you know that I'm well blessed

so there we go that was a bit of excitement when it's Easter Sunday we

can't be rude today who said I'm being rude I think we all know that you were

being I wasn't doing good maybe you were being rude Steve I wasn't I don't know

what you're talking about anyway we met the famous actress stage

and movie star Gabrielle Drake and you can look it up

you can put it you look it up on Google okay and and but we remember her from

UFO this was a series made late nineteen sixties and she was wearing a purple wig

and a very tight top which let's let's just say it showed off her attributes

yes and that's what she was in a sleeve famous on it we've got it we've got

we've got everything we need there she's almost hanging okay she was known for

her attractiveness yes okay people are now googling it anyway

you know they've all got computers I don't I just said that the people

watching us have computers I know I just said they've literally the moment her

name came up on the screen they were all typing away typing it in that's what I

think perhaps as a new entry now in Wikipedia that says Gabrielle Drake met

mr. Duncan on Friday I'm gonna tell you if as the lady I'm gonna tell you a

funny story Steve I actually on Wikipedia I actually put myself on to

the Much Wenlock page here we go talking about Biggie Gehrig actually

typed on to Wikipedia that YouTube English teacher mr. Duncan lives in Much

Wenlock because I I can edit on Wikipedia yeah

and I put it above Gabrielle Drake because Gabrielle Drake is mentioned on

the Wikipedia page for Much Wenlock but I'm not so I thought I thought well I

live in much when walking I'm famous on YouTube infamous so I put myself on

there and can you believe someone else went on and removed me they took me off

haha very nice so they actually took me off they actually deleted me so I spent

ages writing on the actual page for Much Wenlock tit YouTube English teacher mr.

Duncan lives in Much Wenlock he's very famous on YouTube well there was the

problem you put yourself a but above Gabrielle Drake I said you just put

yourself underneath I think you just stayed on I think more famous than you

mr. Duncan yes I think that may have been the sin I think I I think that was

a step too far I put myself above Gabrielle I think if she'd known who you

were and she came out of her gates she just set that bouncer on you she didn't

know who I was she didn't she said you're the English teacher he's making

that up don't believe that you're the famous English teacher so yes so there

we go so she she of course an autograph was asked for so so I didn't mind I gave

her one I gave her a mr. Duncan I gave her a signed photo east egoist that's a

person with a a gigantic ego who thinks a lot of themselves I know what you're

talking about I am the most modest person on the planet it sounds like it

do you how many modest people put themselves

into Wikipedia but sometimes sometimes you'll be surprised how many people

write their own Wikipedia entry trust me actually you see if enough people do

that if anyone out there is a Wikipedia editor maybe you'd like to put mr.

Duncan in there yes because I can't do it obviously because it's my own entry

but if someone else wants to edit on the Much Wenlock page that mr. Duncan from

YouTube that the well-known English teacher lives in Much Wenlock as well as

Gabrielle Drake who used to be on television in movies they can I'll get

the vicar will be a purview I think it'd be Gabrielle Drake the local vicar who's

been in a TV they've had a TV series about vicars hmm and the vicar in Much

Wenlock has been on I think practically every week yes so yes there's a lot

going on in which when Huck Steve I've just remembered something what we've

forgotten all about the live chat oh how can we forget about the live chat oh my

good I don't oh I'm very sorry to everyone on the live chat we almost

forgot you I was so excited by my meeting on Friday with an actual famous

person who lives here in Much Wenlock so that's the reason we ts has already

looked up that she was born in 1944 but she still looks great she does she's

true film star yes so say yes yes you're right she was born in 1944 she is

actually 74 now she's 74 but looks amazing I must do my I was very

surprised how great she looks still and she was very very beautiful

when she was young I'll try and find some photographs later I have to be

careful because of copyright of course we have to be careful of in go crossing

someone's copyrights Nicole wants you two to play an April Fool's joke on me

oh well it's too late now because you can't play an April Fool's joke after

midday because then it's bad luck and also you become the fool for those who

don't know what April Fool's Day is because some people don't you wouldn't

imagine that would you so you are so funny and interesting to listen to thank

you ute for that have we said what we're gonna do today well well we've got we've

got an hour and a half still I know plenty of time lots of things coming up

today things coming up we are talking about sweet things because of course

it's Easter I have a little surprise for mr. Steve in a few moments as well a

surprise for me yes little surprise for mr. Steve

yes and I'm going to talk about uses of the word set yes the word set as in case

my pronunciation was not very good its s ET set set having people I think I think

we understood that but also also remember that set has one of the most

uses in the English language it has many many uses in fact I think it's almost

the most definitions that can be connected to one word stealing my

thunder it is welcome well there will be people joining us later I have a feeling

that lots of people are celebrating Easter today do you know do you realize

the other thing we sacrificing today hmm where we were on live on teaching

English for two hours which means that's two hours when we're not eating

chocolate yes I could be eating lots of chocolate hybridizes we're making but

instead I am just here with you and mr. Steve is also with us today but a lot of

people may be wondering what April Fool's Day is so here we go here is a

lesson all about that very subject what is April Fool's Day

we all like to have a laugh once in a while I know I do

however some enjoy it more than others one of the ways of raising a titter is

to play a trick on someone or to prank someone into believing something that is

not true or real fortunately for those who enjoy playing the occasional prank

or hoaxes on others there is a special day put aside for just such an event of

course I'm talking about April Fool's Day

April Fool's Day occurs each year on the first day of April on this day people

will play tricks and pull pranks on each other for fun most of the pranks are

harmless and cause no real upset while some create anger outrage and even

mass hysteria there have been some rather adventurous pranks played on the

general public over the years for example in 1980 the BBC reported that

the four clock faces on the famous Big Bend clock tower would be replaced by

digital numeral readouts many people called in to complain before it was

revealed that the whole thing was a big hoax in 1978 a wealthy adventurer

returned from Antarctica to Australia towing a large iceberg with the

intention of selling chunks of the ice to locals this turned out to be an

elaborate hoax in 1998 the fast food chain Burger King

released an advertising campaign to promote a new product the left handed

hamburger amazingly thousands of people fell for the prank by showing up at

burger outlets asking for one of the left-handed meals in 1976 British

astronomer Patrick Moore announced on BBC Radio that the planets Pluto and

Jupiter would align in such a way that here on earth people would experience a

change in the Earth's gravitational pull whilst jumping up and down amazingly the

BBC received calls from listeners purporting to have floated around the

room in 1962 Swedish television viewers were told that if they stretched a pair

of ladies tights over their TV screens the

black-and-white picture would become colour of course it was all a hoax TV

viewers in Sweden had to wait another eight years before they could really

he broadcasts in color so what are the origins of April Fool's Day well it

depends on who you ask there are many stories surrounding the reasons why we

play tricks on April the 1st ironically most of the stories surrounding April

Fool's Day are made up the first written reference of April Fool's Day appears in

Geoffrey Chaucer's The Canterbury Tales published in 1392 where a mixup with the

wording of the dates refers to there being 32 days in March another origin

albeit an unlikely one occurred in France when the Gregorian calendar was

adopted in 1564 which meant that from there on the new year would be

celebrated on January the 1st and not at the end of March those who continued to

celebrate after the change on April the 1st were labeled as fools other theories

are that the date refers to the Roman festival of hilarya or a revolt against

Christianity where an an annual day of chaos took place as a protest organized

by the worshippers of demigods in all honesty it would be fair to say that

there is no definitive reason why April Fool's Day really exists April Fool's

Day is also known as all Fool's Day in some places to many people the act of

playing pranks and hoaxing others for furn seems childish and infantile

however this has not stopped people from falling each other with their creative

shenanigans have you ever played an April Fool's joke on anyone have you

ever been the victim of an April Fool's hoax did you fall for it in this

instance to fall for something means that you were taken in or fooled by the

hoax or prank you were made to look stupid

you are made a sucker of you are made to look a fool quite the April Fool if you

will today's keywords prank to play a trick or to fall someone with a

practical joke hoax a form of joke where someone pretends that something will or

has happened instance the occurrence of something or an example of something

occurring

going to be celebrating Easter Sunday so for some people for some people it is a

very big special day so we might not have everyone here I think some of the

usual people will not be here today but we are here we're here and they'll have

I'm beginning to think that maybe mr. Duncan was just playing an April Fool's

joke on me I would never do that Steve and just to

prove it I'm now going to ask you to do something for me would you like to do

something oh okay okay then never miss so if you look to

your left hand side your left okay yes if you lean over the chair and look

behind you like this you might see something covered with a t-shirt yes so

there is a t-shirt on top of something be careful there is something and that

is my way of saying mr. Steve happy Easter happy Easter it's a bit of a

smelly old t-shirt it's just one that you'd sometimes wear but you chucked it

in the corner nope okay oh should I look can I have a look mister don't ever look

Tata Oh happy Easter oh it's a Lindor egg

yeah look at that so I know that you I know that you really do like Lynn mine

all mine see you later mr. Duncan I'm joking

oh that's very nice that is a surprise I wasn't expecting anything at all okay so

I'll show it again I'll endure well it's an easter egg but that's a particular

time come on oh nice can I let you in on a

secret it's been there for the last two weeks know what I was going to say is on

Wednesday night I actually did show everyone on the livestream last

Wednesday I showed them the egg oh and it's been behind you all the time but

it's been right behind you all the time you know that just for that you're not

having any of it well that's okay I've got plenty here I know because I bought

you one didn't I I've got I've got some little little rabbits look at those

little chocolate rabbits can you see them where can I put this I'll put it

down on the table I'll put it and here have you shown the viewers what

I gave to you this morning mr. Duncan for Easter can you see the little

rabbits there I can see them we always associate rabbits with Easter because

it's the time of year when the rabbits are all breeding they are all chasing

each other around getting very frisky I love that word frisky they are getting

very excited they want to mate sorry Steve what did you say I said are you

going to show the Easter egg that I brought for you yes well it's on screen

right now in fact it can't see it from here

there is one of the Easter eggs are you taking it out of the box I've taken it

out yes because it's too big Oh unfortunately but mr. Steve also bought

one of these look at this so a golden egg and also a golden rabbit isn't it

amazing and I love the Bell can you hear that

the little Easter Bell on the Easter Bunny so there it is there it is so

these were the gifts that mr. Steve gave me let's add up the amount of fat that

we are going to conceive don't spoil it I'm gonna need a magnifying glass for

this here we go right so in here there is nearly 300 grams

worth of chocolate okay and per hundred grams we have 48 grams of fat hundred

and about a hundred and forty something bound in 45 grams of chocolate 145 grams

bearing in mind the annual allowance for chalk as only the daily allows with

death there's no daily allowance with

chocolate in the nutritional world the daily allowance for fact for a man is

about 70 grams is the idea of an amount that's what they should do they

should say that they should make it annual and then you know they can say

you could have you can have a ton of chocolate every year so if I have to eat

all what the chocolate that was in here today I would have double the amount of

fat that I was supposed to have in the entire day and sugar wise that's for

this forty grams of sugar I love the way you are using the magnifying glass this

is very low light is that there's a very bright the light you see it's nothing to

do with that it's because of your cranky old eyes no it's not so there we go yes

so 40 grams of sugar in a hundred grams it says about 120 grams of sugar in here

what's the daily allowance for sugar mr. Duncan it's 77 teaspoons seven just

seven teaspoons of sugar that's all you're supposed to have every day 30

teaspoons in here I have the goodness just just in two cups of tea

every day I have that you've had that already so stand by with you know

diabetes is coming on because that's what you get if you have too much sugar

I know but I'm not going to get diabetes you might do I'm going to be fit as a

fiddle forever you might need what is it insulin that's what diabetics have to

inject yourself with insulin please never ever take my chocolate away from

me never we're going to be seriously ill we'll have to eat that out that means we

are eat it out that means we have to spread it out over a week like just I

just love the fact that you use the magnifying glass the other day can I

just tell you now the other day Steve was using the magnifying glass to look

at his computer screen I was that it's true that just shows you my eyes are

getting quite bad if I've got to use a magnifying glass on the computer

cinnamon in the whole of my life I have never seen anyone use a magnifying glass

to look at their computer screen I'll tell you what it was I was typing

someone's email address in into the into the address bar

and because I'm working off a laptop which has got quite a small screen hmm I

couldn't tell whether I put a dot did you know how people have it so say John

Smith John Smith yes 20 at Yahoo or whatever I couldn't see if I'd put the

dot in between the first name and the surname so I used a Magnum that's up in

the screen mr. Steve was using a magnifying glass to look at this

computer screen I mean if that is not a sign that your eyes are getting bad

Steve I'm not joking but it is a small little laptop screen

and I need to get a big monitor like you've got mr. Duncan I pinched one of

these on your desk you could steal one of mine now we've got some mystery

idioms today one of them is a special Easter mystery idiom and the other one

isn't and one of them features you mr. Steve me yes that's what I just said so

let's have a look so let's have a look at today's mystery idioms here is the

first one so this is a well-known phrase from the English language it's a

well-known phrase a well known expression and it is used quite a lot so

just say what you see say what you see and here is the second one some of you

might have seen this picture already this is another I love this photograph

chocolate in a chocolate Easter egg even I would love to live inside one that's

very clever how you've how you've managed to put me in there mr. Duncan

it's you it's mr. Steve hatching hatching from the egg but this is also a

well-known English expression so do you know what it is so there is the second

mystery idiom and here is the first one again these are well known expressions

in the English language and there is the second one it is an

Easter mystery idiom featuring mr. Steve as well the answers do

eggs the answers coming later on so there I hope you enjoyed those and we

hoping we can go outside later on because the weather is absolutely

gorgeous today it's such a it's such a lovely day

I I can't believe how nice the weather is and of course April has arrived Steve

are you excited for April April the first I went outside this morning to

check how much oil we'd used yes and I've got to say we've used a lot this

winter because it's been very cold and we're down to the last six inches of oil

in the tank do you know I think this is the worst winter we've had for many

years well it's certainly going to be an

expensive winter in terms of fuel bills so we've we've almost used all of our

allowance for oil we've almost used 2,000 liters of oil 2,000 liters of oil

that's incredible since September but it has been very cold it has been very cold

I reckon we've probably got about 300 litres left so don't be enough to last

us over the summer oh I see so but fortunately we won't

have the heating on much during the summer anyway it's going off that's it

it's off we'll have to use we'll have to use candles to heat the water up because

I only buy it when it's cheap in the summer we last even better we just don't

wash we never wash on behind anyway mr. Duncan such a face

reason for me to go to Brazil of course I suppose

that makes sense because I suppose there is a lot of chocolate in Brazil because

they they grow cocoa in Brazil don't know I would imagine they probably do

yes yeah yes it is yes that might be the reason why I I'm just thinking that

that's another reason for me to go to Brazil lovely weather rain forests

beautiful people and now chocolate of course the first famous chocolate in the

world I think probably we'd say comes from Belgium mmm Belgian chocolate yes

or in Europe Swiss chocolate is a Swiss chocolate which of course this is this

this egg you bought me lint lint is a famous Swiss brand of chocolate let's

have a look not for those who are wondering we are not advertising we're

not let's have a look at the front lint surely I'll get closer they all know

it's all that all the focus is all that's called the front that's it yes we

want to see the egg there's the brand lint famous brand of Swiss chocolate and

when I was growing up if you got lint chocolate it was the most expensive

chocolate you could buy in the UK at the time I'm sure this is back in the 1970s

so if mom bought me Lindt chocolate for Easter and she always bought with his

Lindt chocolate Easter egg solid eggs it was a real treat because they were very

expensive now of course chocolate from because we

only really knew Cadbury's mmm chocolate which was made in in in Birmingham it's

an otter ville it's a very big brand in the UK Cabras a very big brand but of

course it's relatively inexpensive we didn't really import as much food as we

do these days so in the 1970s to get Swiss chocolate was quite something hmm

but of course sir Belgian chocolate is probably that's the most famous brand I

would say of chocolate or the region where most of the famous chocolate comes

from in Belgian but but yes Swiss Lindt but I like Lindt chocolate

it's nice hence we've got you bought me that and I've bought you a

chocolate that dr. bunny is Lindt chocolate as well this this bunny rabbit

is the same brand because we both like this particular chocolate we both love

it so much so it is actually a very nice brand of chocolate but we're not

idea of how many of those rabbits that we've eaten how many of those rabbits

we've eaten let me just show you something in the lead up to Easter over

the last four weeks they've been selling these chocolate bunnies and they've all

got those bells around their neck so we've been buying smaller versions of

that yes so let me just show you now let me just

show you something so there it is now this will give you an idea of how

many of these we've actually eaten watch this get ready you've kept all the bells

off they are off the yes Easter bunnies the chocolate Easter bunnies forever zoo

limit can you sing nicest chocolate in the world zoo the rich look look at all

the bells so that gives you an idea think of the fat and sugar of how many

of these chocolate bunnies we have eaten so with a 100 gram bunnies so we had 50

we smashed them up not half each so going back to my assuming it's got the

same amount of fat in which I'm guessing it has here we go

oh my god you ought to look at the fact that the amount of saturates in

this as well that the saturated fat is the really bad acts of what bad run via

via via cholesterol levels that is so we've been having about twenty five

grams of fat hmm which is probably at least probably a third of our daily

allowance of fat while it did notice Steve you were starting to look a bit

fat so I'm getting a bit of a roll around the middle yes I think your fault

I think Steve is putting on weight mr. Duncan's a bad influence nuts because I

could give it all up but then when we do for a while we give it all up and then

slowly it creeps back in no no if we go to the shop we walk in on Saturday and

mr. Duncan says or shall I get a little treat for later and then all right I say

just one let's just get one bar of chocolate but then when we get home he's

thought about four and of course he's like a drug addict so he has it that I

just want a small piece with any oh oh I have this other bit here you go I'll

have another bit of all the things like a drug peddler of all the things you

could have said about me today mr. Duncan is like a drug addict yes

trying to try to get me hooked on chocolate because sugar I don't think

it's the chocolate that's so addictive I think it's the sugar that's an addictive

part well here in the UK of course that there there has been a lot of talk in

the news about sugar or the content of sugar in certain types of food normally

fizzy drinks and of course chocolate and of course junk food as well so they are

going to put a tax on certain foods that have lots of sugar in them so they are

going to introduce a sugar tax yeah here in the UK to actually try and put people

off buying things that have a lot of sugar and of course to also encourage

the manufacturers to put less sugar in their products but between you and me if

you are addicted to sugar you will buy it however much it costs yes yeah it's

just another way of the government making money out of tap

because they've done the same with cigarettes they keep putting the the

price of putting more tax on cigarettes over over many decades and of course

what they say is oh this is to discourage people from smoking but of

course if you just put sort of 10 P on a packet of cigarettes every year then

most people aren't going to notice another 10 P so if they put tacks on

sugar well what how much is it going to put up

the price of a Coca Cola but what do you make me but it won't make any difference

anyway because even if if a bottle of pop if a bottle of fizzy pop cost 10

pounds people would still buy it now I don't think they would then I think I

think they would because they just wouldn't be able to stop themselves they

would they would be selling their furniture they would be stealing they

would become my who said early I wouldn't happen mr. junk but but yes I'm

just supposing though I'm just saying in that situation that you are driving

people into a desperate situation as well but like but over sugar so say a

bottle of pop coca-cola fizzy lemonade cus a pound if they put 5p on top of

that the government are making 5 pence for every one of those bottles sold to

imagine them billion sold every year people are gonna pay that because it's

only 5p they won't even notice that's it well it's going to be more than that but

it's just a way of taxing the average person in the street

yes well it's it's done to make it seem as if something is being done yes so

they are paying lip-service so it's a great expression actually if you pay lip

service to something it means you do something without making any real change

you it's a hollow action but of course it also might be seen as something that

will still be of benefit not to the person buying the things but to whoever

gets the money that is made from the increase so yes yes so yes I think so

it's a very skeptical way of enjoying the Easter Sunday it's not

going to put anybody off do you want to look at while we're on the subject of

sugar and chocolate do you want to look at my some of my phrases and idioms

related to chocolate before we do that I have something I want to show you mr.

Steve you're in charge I want to show you something very quickly they're going

to also talk about sweet things from our childhood now does anyone out there have

memories of their childhood or maybe things that they like eating now so

maybe there is something that you used to eat when you were small or something

you enjoyed eating when you were a child so is there something that you enjoy

eating so on the live chat we will be talking about that if you want to oldest

says I found myself eating chocolate cake in front of the computer this sweet

discussion has made me hungry so because of us Steve Olga is now

eating chocolate cake it's awful amiri said I'm sorry that person's like you

why lose hair and I'm also I'll tell you why

Amir it's because we're v rile we have got testosterone coursing through our

veins yeah it destroys the hair in your head but you're a virile man and I can

see you've got a beard as well yes we're real men men who lose their pair of real

men and then find as irresistible bandwidth is irresistible that's right

irresistible if they lose their hair it's the complete opposite but if men

lose their hair then women find it attractive absolutely I'm really

enjoying the whole that you're digging by the way I haven't dug any hole but

you can you can have bald women yes but you know you cannot board those well you

do get boring but they would wear wigs yes but well not if they're bald you

can't wear a wig and be bald well underneath

about the girl from Star Trek the motion picture well it's difficult even XE she

had well that's it then it can be it can be very it can be it can be that you

know you know who I'm jealous of Steve Patrick Stewart I'm jealous of black

guys oh okay you know why I'm jealous of black guys because they look great when

they ball they do because it that because their skin is dark there isn't

this cutoff between the the pale scalp and the hair at the Sun not even there

it's not even that it's just that if they shave all of their head off and

keep it shiny it still looks amazing it does it does

actually yes I do it I look like an easter egg you look like you're on

chemotherapy if you shave your hair do you remember once I did that we we we

actually decided many many years ago we go on holiday are in the days when we

had hair barely remember that we decided to shave it all off and we went on a

holiday and we met with with some friends of ours and they said oh are you

you all I do you you know you show you well I don't know we just shaved a hair

if necessary you look like you're on chemotherapy huh because of course if

you are on if you've got a severe nasty disease like cancer you're treated with

with that chemotherapy then it makes your hair fall out happy Easter so

normally if you see people in the street particularly women with no hair then you

assume that they're seriously ill and they've had to have chemotherapy so it's

not the look that a woman would usually go for unless she's in space in which

case it looks futuristic yeah talking of hair but it doesn't look futuristic okay

Steve we've got it we've really got another very brave woman that walked

walked down the street yeah all her hair shade that's it it definitely you should

write a book me I haven't got any choice so talking of hair here is the person we

mentioned earlier look look who it is it's Gabrielle oh there she is she is

this Gabrielle I wish my phone would stop switching off in 1968 or something

no 1969 there she is thirty a year

well it's not the right year oh shit that was in UFO which was a well-known

quite - quite forward-thinking series of its time I loved it but there she was

yes a forward-thinking show it was a science-fiction programs fiction for

children so they're adults really wasn't it no it was the kids awesome for kids

kids watch UFO I watched it when I was a kid I know because it was on at that

time yes it was on when children were watching television I don't think with

the children's program was it was on it was on in the early early evening uh

but when we were actually with her in real life I can't see a headband on

there no not on there oh but when when when we were really

with her I noticed she had a headband Oh our and it was purple as well so

that's interesting same color as her hair there don't you think that strange

Steve that looks like a like a doesn't like a real person it

looks like a second it looks like a model or what or a waxworks no it's it's

Gabrielle Drake I know it is her in the TV show UFO I know what it is okay but

she had their little headband on the other day I noticed okay but it was

interesting that it was purple don't you think that's interesting well

it obviously she likes the color purple yes but it was on her head and that was

the color of the week she used to wear in the TV show so I noticed it at the

time but I didn't want to say anything no she probably hates everybody when

they meet her talking about UFOs she probably wants to

be remembered for more more serious productions that she was in yes okay

anyway I believe mr. Steve you have some things to show us now we are talking

about sweets today because it's Easter we are and I think we can't really do

that without talking about this particular item first of all so here is

something that can be sweet and also savory and there it is ah the hot cross

buns hot cross buns hot cross buns one a penny two a penny hot cross buns they're

essentially tea cakes a bit smaller with some different spicing and a cross on

top which of course is signifying the cross of Christ okay but there we go

that the crucifixion that's what that's depicting yeah so you know what it's

saying when you eat it I'm not quite sure but they're very popular and

they're delicious well it's a bit like communion is well isn't it it's a tea

cake with a cross on top it's so you might see it as like communion you know

can be any way you eat a little bit of you eat a little bit of bread and then

you eat a little bit of wine the body of Christ the blood of Christ that's it you

see so eating that eating the hot cross bun probably isn't that unusual I think

it's probably quite normal do you think no it could be it

could Ravi a lot of it like that they're a bit spicy yes they're lovely though

very nice with nice a spicy I don't mean spicy in terms of like curry spice

I mean spicy in terms of cake spice lots of fried nutmeg and cinnamon yes lots of

yes lots of cinnamon in there and nutmeg and I love them in fact I I'm I've made

them in the past do did try to make some in it they were quite nice in fact yeah

it's just like making bread really they have to rise and you stick them in the

oven put a cross on top okay we've got the live chat very busy and Natalia says

the sweets of the childhood were much sweeter than now and there was nothing

tasty as cheap ice cream and also rare oranges were really majestic

so yeah Aurora says look at Aurora is she a doll is she alright she does look

or something like that that's what I wanted to hear that didn't it the UFOs

made that strange sound it was more sort of you know anyone tuning in now will

think there's something wrong with their computer well if they watch that episode

later they'll know exactly what we mean yes exactly

I'd loved to have seen a UFO hovering over a house at that moment yes we do

know that it never was in fact a science fiction TV program it was actually real

okay is it hot in here so childhood sweets things we used to eat when we

were kids and here's something that I used to eat when I was a child do you

remember the fudge I do yes I I never liked fudge I didn't like it it was my

least favorite sweet a finger of fudge and there was a little song that always

went with it a finger referred she's just enough to give yourself a treat a

finger refer cheese just enough until it's time to eat it's filled of Cadbury

goodness and very small and neat her finger effort she's just enough to give

yourself a treat very nice mr. Duncan do you like that song in fact cause if you

ate that before you had you made me your mother would be very angry because you

wouldn't eat your main meal because it would fill you up I like a finger of

fudge I don't it was my least favorite sweet you can't beat a nice finger

offense I couldn't eat like that I remember the

first time somebody gave me a Mars bar the first time I ever tried to eat a

Mars bar hmm I was probably about to try 14 a 13

or 14 and that couldn't finish it I just love this image of you trying to eat a

mars bar was it too heavy it was just Mars bars I don't know

whether they've shrunk as they've got older no you've got bigger or I've got

big of it I could literally could not finish this Mars bar and I felt sick

afterwards okay and but now I could probably eat four but at the time there

are antioxidants is the word I was looking for chocolate in sir but they

say dark chocolate is better for you because that's more concentrated beam

and contains more of the the beneficial components that the chocolate beam has

ingredients yes the factors the factors the factors annoyed so factors around

the components and endless for a moment there I thought you're going to suggest

that chocolate grows on trees good for depression well chocolate you see how

I'll keep saying here I've got lots of little phrases here yes let's have a

look get some of your lovely expression is the first one with that let me just

can I talk now yes this is just a little quick expression they often say that

chocolate is the food of the gods okay yeah they do I've never heard of

that well it's true it's a fact the food of the gods because it's so delicious

and so lovely I always thought ambrosia was the food of the gods well it may be

but chocolate is as well so there we go there's one how about this one mr.

Duncan life is like a box of chalk or for

business so that's from Forrest Gump ah well yeah that'd wait there

I thought I was on now you're butting in with me now no it's split screen life is

like a box of chocolate my mother always said life is like a box of chocolates

you never know what you're gonna get exactly so what that means is that life

is often unexpected so just like a box of chocolates that contains lots of

different flavors shapes sometimes you just don't know what you're going to get

and that expression has been around long before the film Forrest Gump okay but it

was popularized in the film and slightly adapted I didn't expect to lose my job

but hey life is like a box of chocolates so it just means that sometimes

unexpected things come along yes just like a box of chocolate I always say

that life is like a box of chocolates it's full of nuts

well there's one sitting over there it's just like this show you never know

I saw her the other day I met her in Much Wenlock because she lives here and

she asked for my autograph she said she's heard of me she does look

like a doll hello mr. Duncan I've heard of you are you Julian are you on YouTube

I said yes I am I'm an English teacher he's

their expression death by chocolate idea death by chocolate it's a sort of a sort

of flippant phrase I have a feeling that might be off or our fate exactly because

obviously chocolate is is very nice but consumed in large quantities you could

imagine it would be very bad for you because it's high in fat and sugar

mm-hmm so this expression death by chocolate often refers to if somebody

gives you a big chocolate cake like a triple chocolate layered cake so the

chocolate on top the the sponge is made of chocolate the filling is made of

chocolate this there's this chocolate on top and you were to eat two or three

slices of that you would often you would say that that's death by chocolate and

in fact I think there was a brand of of confectionery a brand of chocolate cake

that you could buy that was called literally death by chocolate so

sometimes people use that expression here's another one chocolate box

chocolate box what will a chocolate box is a box of chocolates but if you

describe something that seems to be unreal to perfect and very attractive

you can say that it's got a chocolate box look about it that maybe it looks a

bit like a fairytale so sometimes you go into a village and you see this on

television a beautiful picturesque village and all the houses look perfect

and they look like something out of a fairy tale you say that this lovely

village is full of chocolate box houses so it just means something that's a bit

unreal - perfect oh that's beautiful and what that just looks like a

chocolate box village do you see what I'm saying there mr. Duncan I do see

what you are so really when you disappear off the screen I think you've

disappeared out of the room it's quite strange no it's it I'm still here

something that seems unreal this this live stream feels a bit unreal today to

be honest oh then we were looking at chocolate thing here's something that I

used to eat a lot of by the way Steve it's it when I was a kid and here here

we go did you ever eat gob stoppers I did

gobstoppers do you have any now no idea what should we do

that's a shame but I used to eat gobstoppers and some of them were so big

you could just about get them into your mouth they were massive some of the

gobstoppers were huge and of course the word gob gob means mouth yes a slang

word for mouth a slang word for mouth gob yeah I can't believe you could buy

these they were giant you could just about get them in your mouth and they

would they were made a very very rock-hard sugar and they would take ages

to dissolve and you couldn't speak and I'm surprised I don't know if you can

still buy them because I would imagine you could probably choke on them I would

imagine we've banned them though I wouldn't be surprised if if gobstoppers

have now been banned sweets of course I don't know so much now but certainly

when we were growing up were full of all kinds of artificial flavorings and

colorings which have been proven or proven to cause all sorts of problems

for children yes sort of behavioral problems tartrazine was one of the ones

that was talked about a lot at the time but all those horrible red orange yellow

he dies there was one in particular tartrazine which was sunset yellow

sunset yellow the app and they were they're all they're all industrial dyes

the basic chemicals artificial colorings which are very bad for you anyway back

to something nice eeen umbers sweeties do you remember

fruit salad - I do do you remember the cheese yes and and they only cost one

penny one penny each and of course there was the other Black Jacks

do you remember Black Joe I do indeed yeah they had though they were actually

licorice licorice chews mmm actually no they were aniseed I beg your

pardon I'm wrong they were actually aniseed

flavor they make your teeth go black and a tongue I used to like putting them

over my teeth and then it looked as if I had no teeth yes but of course the they

are still available but they've taken the they've taken the character off the

front can you see I'm not surprised I'm not surprised so a lot of people now

find that particular thing offensive but but you can still get Black Jacks it's

just that the the the chap the guy on the front has now gone I'm not surprised

disappear that we don't offend anyone yes so there we mentioned ice cream

earlier or at least one of my live chatters mentioned ice cream and there

it is look oh now this is one of my favorite treats a nice ice cream in a

cone a little cone a wafer cone but also they put they put a lovely flake inside

do you know what these are called Steve they're called 99 99 99 and I don't know

why they're called 99 at all you would always ask the ice-cream man you would

say hello can I have a 99 I mean I get that yes you get the chocolate in the

top of the car the disappointing thing about 99 s is that they don't that's

obviously the chocolate they put in there is called a flake hmm but the

original Cabrera's flakes of course are very tasty

hmm but when you go to an ice-cream salesman and he puts the the chocolate

flake in he's not using Cabrera's flake he's using so I've got a very cheap

chocolate which tastes revolting and you know that you know the thing that always

disingenuous to religious people yes so we won't do that here but another

is sugar or candy coated you can say you can use it both words if you're American

you would say something is candy coated if you're English you would say it was

sugar coated okay and what that is is it's an attempt to make something appear

better than it really is in order to less lessen the negative

aspects of it so you sugarcoat something you can decode something so you've got

bad news to say but you don't want to straightaway tell them all about the bad

news so you you say a few good things first to try and sweeten it to

candy-coat it do you see what I'm doing there mr. Duncan so for example I've got

a few examples here but you might be able to come up with some as well for

example if you had a lovely company car and your boss wanted to take that away

from you and give you a smaller less expensive car he might he might

sugarcoat it the news the bad news a bit by saying oh your new company cow it's a

beautiful red color our and it does over 60 miles to the gallon

and then you see it it's um beaten up horrible little car but he's tried to

put the positives of it first to try and sugarcoat it

say you were had to move house you had to downsize your house and you had to

explain it to your children you might say oh oh whoa

that the house it's got a a beautiful backyard you'd be able to play football

in it but then he's you know you've got to he's got to share the share the room

with your sister so you're trying to sugarcoat bad news you're trying to put

a positive spin on something that in fact is bad really quite not very nice

can you think of any examples of sugarcoating something there we go you

can also say soften the blow soften the blow yes exactly so soften the blow is

to sugar coat or candy coat something you you try to break the bad news to

them Jen gently gently so you candy coat something or you

sugarcoat something you make it easier to accept so what you say is may be

hurtful or maybe it will disappoint the other person so you sugarcoat it you

candy coat it you say it in a way where they won't be let down too much or too

harshly you forgot to get somebody a birthday present or you forgot their

birthday and you might try and sugar-coated of it by saying or oh yeah

it was just a wonderful birthday you're having today I know it you know you

haven't got them a present but you're trying to you're trying to try and

sugarcoat it to pretend that you haven't forgotten that it's their birthday yes

maybe send them a text in the morning or something like that but you should have

sent them a birthday card so that sugar coating here's another one it's like

taking candy from a baby this is this is slang really for what is an easy task to

take candy from a baby because obviously taking candy or sweets from a baby is

relatively easy so it's often said in a slightly sinister way or it seemed to be

a bit exploitative you've got an unfair advantage because obviously if you're

taking sweets or candy from a baby you've got an unfair advantage because

you're a big adult it's easy to snatch away sweets from a baby so here's some

examples of it look look there's no security at the gate so sneaking in will

be like taking candy from a baby mm-hmm

One of the best things about being in Taipei are its night markets

In today's video, I would love you to come with me to see Raohe night market

Previously, the Keelung River was deeper

and the area which near Raohe Street and Songshan Station was very close to the shore

Becoming a strategic port for the transportng the goods from Keelung and Yilan to Taipei

The sedimentation of the river decreased the number of berths gradually,

making Raohe become one of the oldest night market in the capital
