5th Annual ILLUMINATE Film Festival Offers Movies That Stir Your Soul Michael Franti,

Mooji and More

by clnAdrian

Film has the power to illuminate, to make us feel deeply, essentially taking us to a

place beyond ourselves.

As a medium, it opens hearts and minds, and our response to it is both visceral and personal.

Underneath this response lies the unspoken connection between us all, and nowhere is

this more evident than at the ILLUMINATE Film Festival.

Renowned for their groundbreaking immersive approach to the film festival experience,

the 5th annual ILLUMINATE Film Festival returns May 30th-June 3rd.

The premier conscious film festival, which some have referred to as the Sundance of the

conscious film industry, ILLUMINATE is dedicated to elevating awareness and inspiring lasting

transformation through cinema.

Each season, ILLUMINATE searches out the years most compelling, paradigm-shifting, life-affirming

films.

For their 5th annual Festival, they have selected 26 conscious narratives, documentaries and

shorts.

The schedule includes evening spotlights, special guests, post-screening presentations

with directors and producers, filmmaker panels, nightly parties and live musical performances.

Film as a medium has a paradigm shifting power.

Our commitment to audience members is to support them on their own journey. Says Festival

Founder and Executive Director Danette Wolpert, This years lineup answers both micro

and macro-level questions: how do we become the best and fullest version of ourselves?

How do we make a true and measurable impact on the world?

Individually and collectively, how do we rise?

Participants in the festival are able to mingle with some of the renowned thought leaders

of today, as well as like-minded individuals set on being the change they wish to see in

the world.

The festival kicks off Wednesday, May 30th with a free screening of The Push featuring

the inspiring story of the indomitable Grant Korgan.

Opening Night features the Festival World Premiere of the Emmy-nominated Live Your Quest,

which shares the wisdom of Michael Beckwith, Jack Canfield, Lisa Nichols, Tom Chi and others

The festival will close with the latest from musician Michael Franti; Stay Human.

This heart-drenched film reflects on Frantis personal journey facing adversity as a child,

struggling to find his voice as a musician, and how he came to find inspiration through

six stories of extraordinary change-makers across the globe who chose to overcome cynicism

through optimism and hope.

There will be a Q&A with Franti after the film.

New To Makeup Where To Start? - Duration: 49:03.

hi my name is Melissa van Dijk and I'm a professional makeup artist and today I'm

going to show you if you're new to makeup but you have no idea where you

should start the basic information so you need to know and also step by step

how you can reach a beautiful and natural looking eye makeup look and also

with the rest of your base so I'm going to explain it first what it's important

to know and then later on I will show you a really natural makeup look which

you can do at home when you're just new to makeup so I'm just going to share a

quick story with you guys what happened to me when I first started off with

makeup and I just hope that you can learn from my situation and also from my

experience because this is why I wanted to share it with you so back then when I

just started high school I used to do my makeup every day because I had such a

bad skin that I just felt so uncomfortable going outside without

makeup so what I did is I used a lot of products from my mother's back and a few

of them were also my own which were drugstore brands but back then I only

used to have a tinted moisturizer and eyeliner pencil for my waterline of

mascara and that's it later on I got also a pink eyeshadow it was like a

full-on bold pink eyeshadow which I used to apply on my mobile eyelid

so what I did is I had no idea back then that foundations would exist which means

that they have a little bit more coverage than attentive host riser so

what I did is I used way too much moisturizer like the tinted one and I

applied it to my skin as I would do with the foundation because I just wanted to

get a full coverage like foundation but I only did it with a tinted moisturizer

which means that I had such a thick layer on my face so that my pimples and

breakouts will work covered up so this was the biggest mistake that I could do

and skin just couldn't breathe through it

because I used way too much product so this is one thing that I just like to

point out so a tinted moisturizer isn't a foundation so a tinted moisturizer is

something that you apply with your hands are also with a brush but it's a sheer

coverage so do not use it as a foundation because then you have to

layer it way too much and you are just doing a waste of product and it's not

good for your skin so this is also why my skin couldn't really recover from it

I thought it would be a good idea but it was like the opposite it just gets worse

and then I also used to have a black eyeliner pencil which are popped on my

lower waterline a little bit of mascara and later on as I said a pink eyeshadow

which I put on my mobile lid and also a bit above but I had no idea that you

should use a brush to blend it so you can imagine how this like how this was

looking like so I just popped it on with my finger and all the edges were

standing out so it wasn't really blended and it just like looked worse it was

horrible and I don't want to remember this part of my life because I just

regret it and I had no idea and also no knowledge about makeup now I have

knowledge about makeup and also know how you should apply and also how you should

use the different products so that's what I'm going to show you today in this

video this was not a short story and now I just like to share with you a few

informations so before you are buying any makeup or if you have already bought

it and just look after these points if you have analyzed your skin at first and

also the other points which I'm going to list now later on such first you need to

know what skin type you have and to find out what can help you have you just need

to look at your pros so pause everyone has pores in their face and some of them

are very small some of them are larger pores and some of them you can't really

tell because it isn't the changement on your face so this will tell you already

a lot of how well which skin type you have

I for example have a combination skin which means that when I'm looking close

to the mirror my t-zone which is my forehead my nose area from this part

right here and my chin which means that this area has larger pores and then when

it comes to the cheeks there's a little bit drier and you have smaller pores

this is a combination skin so if you can find this on your face then the chance

is like a huge chance that you have combination skin because this is what

your face tells you if you have small pores around your whole face then you

have a dry skin because the moisture which your face needs could just get

sucked into the skin and you can't really see any moisture on the top of

your skin because your body just needs it inside so this is why you have

smaller post if you have an oily skin then you have larger pores around your

whole face and you can also see that during the day that you are getting oily

so that it's shiny don't forget that oil isn't sweat so if you're sweating did

this doesn't mean that you have an oily skin because sweat is water and oil is

oil it's completely different it's also important that if you are washing your

face in the morning and do not really touch it during the day and then later

on when you are getting ready if you are going to bed then just have a look at

your skin if it's shiny on your forehead area nose area chin area you have a

combination skin if your whole face has like a shine on it then you have an oily

skin and if you have like a normal skin and you can't really tell if it's oily

or not then it it's a good chance that you have a normal skin which means that

you don't have to worry about anything you have enough moisture and you have

enough oils on your face and if you have a dry skin then can also get some dry

patches which means that it can also flake so that your skin will flake and

it feels very dry and kind of like a stretching mask so that you can't really

move your face around then you have a drier skin so this is important do you

know what skin type you have then you need to check what it says on the

product so when it comes to the products of makeup you have tons of them which

are on the market so just look out for if you know your skin

type that you're also taking to write products which means that it's a

mattifying foundation it's great for oily skin it isn't a good foundation if

you have dry skin if you have a normal skin you can go with basically

everything because your skin Willie doesn't mind on what you are going to

use so you have no problems with it so this is now the basic information

which I can point out when it comes to your skin type read what it says on a

product and also analyze your face then you need to know that if you are going

to check for your foundation tinted moisturizer and soever then you need to

find a natural lightening if you can find natural lightening then do a

matching test from your cheek area towards your chin area and also neck

area this part right here if this foundation shade is matching with the

rest of this area then it's your shade and if you are testing it in natural

light and you're 100% right with the shade because if you have more like a

yellowish lightening or very cool lightening then this can also just make

a fake shade and then when you are walking outside and it's too light or

too dark so just keep this in mind it's always useful to just pick up some

samples when you are going to the counter and your aren't sure if you

should test this product or not go with the sample because you can try it out

and if you aren't happy with the product and you haven't wasted your money on

that specific product because some of them can be really expensive so now when

it comes to brushes I have my personal brushes which I prefer and I can't live

without them so I'm going to share it with you and these aren't that many

brushes it just gives you a really nice at also like with these brushes you can

use them for different ways on how you can apply your makeup and also a sponge

so it's also important that every time you have done your makeup please clean

your brushes the same day because then you're happy and you can't really get

any reactions with your skin because you have clean brushes every time you are

applying your makeup which is so important

can also get a really nice routine from your daily routine so you just need to

pick this up and do it every day so that you're getting used to it and then it

gets pricked up by the time so I have now my brush right here and the first

brush which I personally find it so important is a big fluffy powder brush

so if you're going to set your face with some powder that say you have an oily

skin and you are getting shiny during the day this brush is so handy so if you

have a big fluffy brush to set your makeup so that it will be locked in

during the day this is a good opportunity and also we'd spend some

money on a brush like this a medium fluffy brush this is a face brush - and

this is for the application of blush and you can apply your blush with it but you

also can do later on if you are getting used to make up doing some contouring or

bronzing with this brush so it isn't only for one thing you can use such a

brush for like a lot of different ways so you don't only have to use it for

blush then a foundation brush when it comes to the foundation blush then you

can choose between foundation brush or a sponge this isn't the Beauty Blender

this is a $5 sponge from Target so it doesn't always mean that you need to

take a Beauty Blender because they are so expensive so if I would go with a

brush or a sponge I personally would use both but when I'm imagining that I'm

just starting off with makeup then I would go for the sponge why because the

sponge just gives you the perfect amount of product which you need on your face

it gives you also a little bit more coverage as a brush and she can't really

get any like lines with it so you just need to dab it onto the skin and you

need to get used to the motion that you are dabbing all the time sometimes and

also in the beginning you might do like this because you aren't used to the

motion but later on when you are repeating it every day or nearly every

day up to you when you're going to use some

makeup then you just are going to do this and this will be just your normal

routine and you don't have to worry or think about what you're going to do

because the dabbing motion is now a routine of yours so with a brush if you

prefer brush then I would recommend taking a rounded brush which is very

stiff so which means that you have a lot of little hairs on it and it isn't like

a fluffy brush so with this product for example if you with this if you would

use such a brush for your foundation we'll get some lights because it's too

fluffy for foundation and if you want to pack on some product because it's a

dense brush the product won't go inside the brush because it's a little bit more

dense which means that when you're applying it you're also going to do some

dabbing motion so that you are not going to get any lines but you're also going

to swipe the brush a little bit so that you can distribute the product on your

face then I have this is fully right here if you have big brows like I do and

I'm going to tweeze them every month then this is a handy brush for you you

can also use it if you are going to separate your lashes when it comes to

mascara so this is for your brows and mascara then you have a smaller brush

like this this one is beautiful if you want to set your concealer so when it

comes to conceal and you want to set it with powder with some powder then you

can go right underneath the eyes and also on top and you can also use this

brush to highlight your cheekbones then I have a dis blending brush right here

and I have also this flat eyeshadow brush right here when it comes to the

eyes and you're just starting off with makeup these two brushes are the main

brushes where I think that you will need them because this is a nice brush where

you can pack on some product and put it on your mobile it and you can also just

wet your brush a little bit so that you can get the full pigmentation and with

this brush you can just go into your crease and also blend the shades into

each other so these two brushes is a must-have when you are doing your

primary then I have this brush right here this

is a buffing brush which means that when you are going to apply some concealer

then you can bust the concealer into your skin so that you are going to blend

it into your skin or if you are preferring this bunch you can go with

the tip of the sponge and also do the same thing so it doesn't matter if

you're using the brush or the sponge will do the same thing so I have no

preference I am using always the both of them so I'm just going back and forth

with the sponge or with the brush to blend the concealer into the skin then I

have this angled brush right here which is perfect to fill in your brows or to

create a winged eyeliner so this brush is also a really nice brush when it

comes to multiple users so you can use this brush for your brows if you want to

fill them in to get also any sharp lines you can also use it with some concealer

underneath to curve out your brows or to do your winged eyeliner and the last

brush is a concealer brush which is a flat brush so it depends on your

concealer if you need to get it out of a little pot then you can use the

concealer brush to Pat it on your skin and then use the sponge or this buffing

brush to blend it back into the skin so these are my brushes where I know that I

can't live without them and I just think that you need to get them these aren't

many brushes but these are perfect for so many uses so for the first step we

are going to apply some moisturizer so this is such an important step so you

can't really skip it because this is the preparation before you're applying any

makeup product so that your skin just will be nice and moisturized underneath

your makeup and that it won't dry out because certain products and it also

depends on your skin type then it can try out your skin a little bit but when

you're using a moisturizer then it won't happen and it's also less like the

chances less that this will happen to you that you have a dry skin later on so

since I have a combinations I'm going to tell you now what I'm going

to use so when my skin is quite dry and I can feel that it's a little bit more

drier as normal and my t-zone area is also a little bit higher since I have a

combination skin then I'm going to take a moisturizer that's a little bit richer

when it comes to any oils so that this can also repair the dryness and when I

have my skin a little bit more on the oily side then I'm going to use this

moisturizer right here and I'm going to just apply it very light handed on my

face so that my skin is prepped when I'm going to apply any makeup product so now

that you know what skin type you have you can just go for the perfect

moisturizer for your skin type and apply it to your face you can also use your

fingers

now before we are going to apply any makeup products I just want to point out

that if you have really dry lips and you're going to do your makeup then I

would recommend doing while using a lip balm at first and apply to your lips

before you're applying any makeup because while you're doing your makeup

your lips can be really nice and moisturize because you have used the lip

balm directly and later on you can just wipe it away and apply some lipstick on

top so for the next step this is an optional step our personal thing because

when it comes to primer then it also depends on your skin type and also what

makeup you're going for so if you are going for a natural lightweight makeup

you can totally skip the primer because you have moisturizer underneath but if

you have a really bad and oily skin then I would suggest you to take a primer

that's oil controlling which are going to apply on your face let it soak in and

then you can move on to foundation so because my skin isn't that oily at the

moment I'm going to skip this step because the last product I can use why

shouldn't I apply a lot more products that I don't really need so if this

makes sense if you have a really bad oily skin and then you can go with an

oil controlling primer but if you have a normal and also a drier skin then you

can also skip this step and also use a little bit a little bit more of a

heavier moisturizer before you're going to apply your foundation so this will

balance it out and you totally can skip this step but if you are going for heavy

makeup then I would suggest you to take a primer before you applying the rest of

your makeup for the next up we are going to move on to foundation so when it

comes to foundation and it also should suit your skin type which means if you

have a dry skin type go for cream products if you have a normal skin type

choose whatever you want it's totally up to you and because this is the easiest

skin tone you can have if you have a combination skin you can have a little

bit more of mattifying products and you can also go for a little bit more shiny

products which means that it depends also on your skin if you have an oily

day go for mattifying products if you have a very dry day then go for a

bit more creamy and also shiny foundations like some of them tell you

that it will give you a nice Sheen and some of them will also tell you that

it's a mattifying foundation so go for like choose one of them and just apply

them as your day is going on then if you have an oily skin and you have a really

bad oily skin go for powder products because there are some powder products

that you can also apply as a foundation so mineral powders which are tinted to

your skin tone and you can also apply them with a very well dense brush like a

kabuki brush and apply it to your face and it will give you a really nice base

and it's similar to a liquid foundation just in a powder consistency and I

personally like to use now a mattifying foundation so I'm going with this one

right here and I'm going to use on one half of my face to brush and on the

other sponge so that you can see how it will look like when you are using the

sponge and when you are using the brush of course you need to get used to the

routine and also the motions when you are using both of them so I'm now going

to use the brush on this side and I have used a little bit of product on the

brush and I'm going to spread it out a tiny bit and also my forehead and when

it comes to brush I personally like to swipe the product at first so that I can

spread it out and then once I have spread it out I'm going to dab it

because this is a little bit more of a dense brush I can dab it and also move

the product a little bit around and it won't give me any lines and if you can

and just blend everything also towards your hairline so that you won't see any

difference between your hairline and where the foundation has done so I'm

using those circular motions I know I'm going to dab it into the skin

and also never forget your neck so if you have also faked add and match the

rest of your body with your face but if you are having the perfect shade then

just blend it also a little bit who what's your neck otherwise you will have

a sharp line when you will II can see that the foundation has stopped so with

the brush you can also do some dabbing motions so that the lines which will

appear if you are swiping the product a little bit around and then it will

disappear and the foundation will also melt in with your skin I'm using the

sponge and as you can see I have some product on a sponge which I'm going to

depth on my face also on my nose and because this is such a large sponge I

just can dab it on top and I can move the product a little bit around but it

is a little bit quicker than the brush well most of the people tell me that I

can't see also why because you're just dabbing the product into the skin but I

personally find that you just might need a little bit more product than with a

brush because you can't really spread it around because it's directly melt in

with your skin so you haven't really even spread it out yet with the sponge

so this is why when it comes to using a little bit more product but it can also

give you a little bit more of a better coverage but I like both am using both

it just depends on the day and also on the coverage you want to get with the

sponge you can get a little bit more of a higher coverage with the brush you can

get a little bit more of a natural coverage now for the next step we are

moving on to concealer so I'm going to choose this concealer right here and I

also would recommend having a skin tone concealer next to you and also and

highlighting concealer which means that I have a skin tone concealer

right here where I'm going to get an even converse above my eyes and also

underneath my eyes but if you're high if you want to highlight some certain

points like the bridge of your nose they bit on your cheek and also so on

then I would recommend using a lighter skin tone concealer so this is a few

shades lighter as you can see as my actual skin tone and this just can

brighten up any things where you just feel uncomfortable with so I'm going to

show you now how I'm going to use both of them so at first I'm going to start

off with this concealer right here this is great if you want to cover up any

blemishes like I have a few pimples right here and I'm going to use the

concealer to cover them up a concealer it has a better coverage as a foundation

which means that if you're using a concealer just on certain areas it's a

little bit more not really happy but the coverage and a pigmentation is stronger

than in a foundation so what I'm going to do is I'm just going to pop this on

this areas where I just need a little bit more coverage because this is all

about a natural makeup day so if you are just starting off with makeup then this

would be the perfect tutorial for you because you just can keep it simple and

learn how you can just connect with some products and I'm also going to use the

sponge to blend it into the skin and this will give me a better coverage so

that I don't have to use a heavy foundation

so and now I'm going to use the concealer under my eyes to brighten it

up a little bit like the blueness which I have under my eyes I'm just going to

use a natural skin tone concealer I'm going to use the sponge to blend it in

this is one way how you can blend it into the skin so as you can see it just

brightens up this under-eye area even though I have used the skin tone

concealer but the coverage is a little bit higher I'm on and I'm only going to

use to consider where I will in need a little bit more of an extra coverage so

now I'm going to use on the other side the brush so this is also what I

explained to you now you can also use a buffing brush to blend it into the skin

and it will do the same thing as the sponge just buff the concealer into your

skin

so and now for my eyes I just like to get

an even canvas so if you have a lot of things going up here like the blue ones

and the red ones and so on and just want to get an even coverage I always suggest

you to take the concealer and just apply a little bit on top of course you can go

with the sponge and blend it out well with the brush so unless you can't see

now I have a little bit more of an even coverage and then later on we can also

move on to your well to the eyes and then you will see that this will work

the best now on the other side the same of course if you have no concealer where

you just need to grab it out of the pan then I would go with the concealer brush

with this one right here we are just scooping it out of the pan and then just

placing it where you will need some extra coverage now with the brush

so as you can see with the sponge or with the brush it's totally up to you

what you prefer now from seeing this video I just like both and I just feel

that the sponge is a handy sponge and also the brushes are really handy to

apply your makeup so now we can move on to set the concealer so now when it

comes to setting the concealer I would recommend using this method for every

skin type so it doesn't matter if you have dry oily combination or normal I

would suggest you to set your under-eye area with some translucent powder and

I'm going to use this fluffy brush from earlier which I've shown you and you can

use this for some powder and also highlighter so I'm going to use this now

to set my concealer so I'm just going to dip into to translucent powder a bit and

I'm also going to set the under-eye area so what I'm going to do is I'm just

double checking if it has increased because if it has already creased and

you will get some lines and they will be there until the end of the day so now

I'm just going to take the brush I'm just swiping the product around take a

little bit of powder I'm going to do the same on the other side it's always good

to double check if it has already creased

or not because if it's creasing which means that the product has already moved

into the fine lines then you can go back in with a sponge or with the brush and

just blend it back into the skin and then place some powder on top so

translucent powder is a really nice product powder because it has no tint to

it of course if you have a darker skin tone you can also take some banana

powder because this is a little bit more yellowish and it also suits your skin so

it just depends on what skin tone you have now on top of my eye I'm going to

blend it back in because that can also create quite a lot because your eye is

moving constantly I'm also going to set this area on the

other side so I hope you can see already these slides this is what it has already

creased and this is why I just like to double check it before I'm going to

apply any powder on top so that I won't have any lines on it now I have set the

concealer on my eye area and now we can move on to the brows so if you're new to

makeup I'm not going to do a full on brow look because this is what this

isn't what this video is about so I'm just going to keep everything very

natural and I'm going slowly to give you an idea of what you can do when you got

these steps and then later on you can improve yourself so what I'm going to do

with my brows is I'm going to use a tinted brow gel you can also get a clear

brow drills it's totally up to you if you want to add a little bit more color

to your brows or not so something like if you have very blunt eyebrows then you

can add a little bit more color with the tinted brow gel so that they are a

little bit more visible but still keep it natural so I'm not going to fill in

my brows with a brow pencil because this is a little bit more of an advanced step

but if you are new to makeup I just would recommend doing it with a brow gel

so what I'm going to do is I'm just going to take the brow gel and brush the

brow gel as I would do with the mascara through my prop

this will place them like I want them to and it will also add a little bit more

color to it so if you have a little bit more of messy eyebrows and you don't

really know how you should lay them down then I would go with a brow gel because

it's similar to hairspray it just will make your eyebrow hair stay in place all

day long so this will now dry down and then it won't move during the day please

don't forget that you have something on your brows because otherwise you can

also smear it around I'm not the same on the other side so it's like a little

mascara won't but it has like a brownish shade to it for my eyebrows and you can

get so many different shades so just pick one that suits your eyebrow hairs

I'm just going to get my eyebrow hairs in place so and this is the only thing

what I'm going to do when it comes to your brows because it just should give

you a little bit of an idea what you can do and also that you get to know some

products so for the more advanced look you can fill them in but if you're new

to makeup I would recommend choosing a brow trail so for this eye makeup look

I'm going to keep it very simple and these just might be two shades so I'm

going to keep it as simple as possible if you're new to also eyeshadow and

choosing it and also applying it to your lips so what I'm going to do is at first

I'm going to take a transition shade and also a crease straight which means I'm

going to take this color right here and I'm going to pop it in my crease

right here so when I'm opening my eyes and you can't see the line this is where

my creases and I'm also going to blend it a little bit above so I'm just going

to show you what I'm talking about so I'm going to take this

so I'm going to take this brush right here and this is a blending brush as I

told you before I'm just going to start from the outer corner to the inside so

from the left to the right I'm not going to press on it I'm just slightly going

to move the product around so now I'm going to dip into the shade just a tiny

bit at first because we are going to build it up so if you haven't applied

any eyeshadow yet onto your eyes then just make sure that you're using at

first a little bit and if you want to add more you always can't have one so

now I'm just going to look into the mirror but I'm going to look a little

bit downwards so that I'm able to see where my crease is and now I'm going to

blend it from the left to the right and I'm going to add a little bit more and

I'm slowly going to build it up

I'm in my crease and I'm also going a little bit above so at first I'm going

to hold my brush like this and then when I'm going to blend it a little bit

towards the eyebrows I'm going to hold it like this which means that the

product will move towards the eyebrows so it's all about how you're holding

your brush this is where the product will be

and now I'm holding it differently to get it a little bit more above my crease

now as you can see it gives me just a little bit more depth to my crease so

that if you have also hooded eyes for example which means that your lid will

be like this then you can always use a little bit more of a darker shade and

apply it also where your hood is so that it isn't that visible anymore

and now with the other brush with the flat eyeshadow brush I'm going to pick

this church right here and I'm going to pop this on my mobile it can also go

Mets you can also go for this normal shape so that this is the only dark

shade that you have but if you want a little bit more Sparkle then you can pop

nowadays a sparkly eyeshadow shade also on your mobile it so I'm going to take

the flat eyeshadow brush which gives me a natural-looking but still very shiny

eye makeup look and I've just used two different colors so now I'm going back

in with a blending brush and I'm going to blend the shimmery shade in with the

map chip and what we are going to do now is just take the flat brush again and as

you can see I haven't used this size but you can also just wipe it on the back of

your hands and then go back into the first shade and pop this on your lower

left

so I know you have just done and simple eye makeup look with two shades and it

looks beautiful and natural and as I said you can also go on your web wallet

with just a natural matte shade it doesn't have to be a shimmery one but

then your eye will pop just a little bit more so now we can move on to

highlighter when it comes to the eyes to finish off the eye makeup look and I'm

going to choose this one right here from the palette so if you have a palette

where you have lovely shades in it where you know that you're going to wear them

a lot some of them and also most of the shimmery shades you can also use on your

cheeks and also in a corner and brow bone and so on as a highlighter so I'm

just going to use my finger to apply it in the inner corner of my eye and also

brow so for my brows I'm just going to pop this so just a tiny bit and then for

the inner corner if you have closed added eyes you should highlight inner

corner if you have white sided eyes please don't highlight inner corner

because otherwise it can look even worse so that you have your eyes even more a

little bit more wide set it so I'm also going to use in the inner corner you

could also go back in with the brush from before clean it a little bit and

also go back into the highlighting shade so you don't really have to use your

fingers but you could

now we can move on to mascara then the whole eye makeup look will be completed

so I'm going to choose a normal mascara and I'm also having a little mirror in

my hand and what I'm going to do is I'm going to look downward into the little

mirror so that I can see myself and this way I won't be able to just mess up my

eye makeup look because I'm going to apply the mascara from underneath and

not straight if I would do it now straight and the risk would be a little

bit higher that I can mess up my eye makeup look but if I'm looking down and

doing a strange like face and also speaking a little bit weird this is when

you're doing it the right way

and then give it a couple of seconds to dry and then you can move on to the

lower lash line so and when it comes to mascara then it's important that you are

not going to pump a lot of air into the mascara tube because then the risk is

higher that it can dry out quicker so if you are buying a new mascara just dig

into it take it out apply to your lashes and

close it back now when it comes to highlighting your face like your

cheekbones Cupid's bow nose and so on that it depends on what product you are

going to use because the liquid ones are willing eyes and also the powdery ones

are also really nice so it just depends on what you are going to do if you are

going to go for the liquid one then I would do it right now other ones that

would set my face and then later on moving to powder products so what I'm

going to do is you can also do some matte highlighting which means that you

can use this one right here which I was talking about before like earlier this

video this one or you can also go for a normal liquid highlighter like this one

right here so you have the matte highlighter which is little bit lighter

than your skin tone while you have two liquid highlighter which you are going

to apply also on these areas and then you can blend it out with the sponge so

if you want to go for liquid highlighters then do it now otherwise I

just would move on to setting my face now when it comes to setting your face

then you have the option which is liquid and this is the setting spray or you can

go in with some translucent powder or a normal compact powder which is a pressed

powder with a little bit of tint to it if you want to warm up your face so

either way it's both are fine you can go with the liquid one you can also go with

the powder one if you know that you are getting quite oily in the t-zone then I

would go with the powder one because you can also get some little compacts with

some translucent powder on it and just powder and touch up during the day

otherwise you can also go with some setting spray for today's video I'm

going to choose the settings play because I wanted to keep the glow and

the natural finish of my face and I have also used a

mattifying foundation so this is also a reason why I'm going to take the spray

have not the powder because then it will be a little bit too dry for my skin so

I'm going to choose the setting spray so now give it a few seconds to dry into

the skin if you have something where you can just get some air then just hold it

in front of you otherwise just sit like this which is strange for a couple of

seconds and then you can also move on to the next step

if y'all would go for some powder then take the big powder fluffy brush and

just dab it into socials using powder and press it onto your face you don't

need that much we are not going to bake or anything else it's just a simple

setting your face and place the powder all around your face now we can move on

to some blush so this is what I'm going to choose this brush right here and also

a little bit of brush and I'm going to place it on the apples of my cheeks and

I'm also going it to blend a little bit towards my ear and hairline so I'm not

going to drag it all the way up but I'm just going to blend it in the direction

of my ear and you can also smile a little bit so that you know where your

apples are but then when you're going to apply it and just keep it simple and

keep like a poker face so that you can apply it naturally and this blush will

also add a little bit of glow so you can get matte blushes you can also get

shimmery blushes you can also get cream blushes if you are going for cream

blushes then apply it before you're setting your face because powdered

powder and cream on cream so as long as you're using cream products do this all

the way before you applying some powder or setting spray if you are using some

powder later on then set your face and do it like I'm doing right now I set my

face and now I can go in with some powder products

if you're adding a little bit of blush this can also sculpt your face a little

bit because we are not going to contour bronze this is just a natural looking

makeup look and now we can move on to the next step for the next time I'm just

going to wipe away my lip balm because for the next step after this one we are

going to apply some lipstick and now I can also highlight so I'm going to take

the highlighting brush or also where I have used it to set my concealer and I'm

going back into this highlighter right here so it's an eye shadow but still it

works beautifully as a highlighter I'm going to swipe the brush around and I

can just add a little bit more of that glow you can also take your finger so

it's totally up to you or you could go in with your finger and your finger will

give you always a little bit more of pigment when it comes to shimmer shades

and we are going to keep it very subtle

like this said that we have a nice and beautiful glowing skin I'm going to do

it a little bit on my nose and also on the Cupid's bow so the way I used to do

my highlighting like on my cheeks Cupid's bow nose and so on this is also

the way how you could just use a matte highlighter and just apply it also on

these areas because this will be also a little bit more brightening and this is

also noticeable so for my lips I'm going to use a normal lip gloss which is in a

natural shade and you could go with whatever lipstick you wanna go if you

have dry lips you just might do not want to use any liquid lipsticks that dries

down so you just want to use a creamy lipstick but otherwise there isn't any

rule of what lipstick you should use or what formula you should use it just

should suits you and you need to feel comfortable with so what I'm going to do

is I'm just going to apply this lipgloss right here because I just find that a

little bit of shine is there it's beautiful and I'm feeling very natural

and also blow it with it

like this it's a beautiful shade and it's a natural glowing shade and when it

comes to lipstick please never forget the outer corners of your mouth always

his little bit of lipstick in the outer corner of your mouths because when

you're talking and this part is missing then this can look a little bit strange

maybe not with a natural shade but if you are going into blues and greens of

lipstick then these areas if this isn't like filled in with some lipstick and it

can look a little bit weird because it isn't a complete that lip look so this

is now the whole makeup look which I'm going to well which I have presented for

you and I hope that you like it it just takes a few steps and it just needs to

be your routine but now I just wanted to quickly get into something which is

really important so I just wanted to tell you something which I personally

feel is really important when it comes to a buying brushes so when it comes to

this punch it really doesn't matter what the price is I mean you can get a little

bit more expensive ones like the Beauty Blender for 20 bucks and you can also

get like this one which was 5 bucks at Target you just need to feel the quality

if it's comfortable for you and if you're dabbing it onto your skin this is

all what it is about so you just need to feel it and if it's nice to you then it

will work for you it doesn't matter what the price is but when it comes to the

brushes and you're starting off with makeup I would recommend buying a kit

which is a kid where you have all the brushes that you need and it can be a

little bit more pricey because when you're investing in something that's it

that's a little bit more price you know so buddy in equality and you're doing

your makeup everyday then it will last you longer what I'm going to tell you is

that when I first invested in some brushes I didn't put any cheap brushes I

bought so if our brushes I bought the first kit where I had all the brushes in

it so these are still the purses where I have like just started off with makeup

and they're still good which means I have them now for nearly three years so

I have to process for nearly three years and they are still doing a great job and

I'm washing every day and I'm cleaning them and I'm

stocking them like I'm using them every day in my daily routine if I'm doing a

video and so on and this is a great investment because if I would use now

very cheap ones and the bracelets will fall out and I have to buy every month

new ones because it was worth the money and then it gets expensive if you have

to spend every month so well less money but it gets expensive because you're

doing it every month then I just would recommend buying a little bit more

pricey brushes and you can use them for so many years then buying cheaper

brushes and you have to buy every month new ones so this was the one thing I

wanted to point it out it's so important to me that you know that because I made

experience that if you are going for the bit more pricey brushes then it's worth

it so now done with brushes so this is now

the final video I know it's a long one but still I just wanted to help you out

with all these steps and all with these information and so on and I just hope

that you like it and also thank you so much for watching and listening to me

and be patient because makeup needs practice so even now with three years of

practicing it I'm not like perfect perfect and I can't and nothing can go

wrong it still happened to me that something goes wrong but I'm keeping

improving it and that's what the way is so still improve your makeup skill and

you're getting better in it each day because you're practicing it this is all

what I wanted to say thank you so much for watching and I'm keeping it now very

short so if you wanna see now an other video for example on how you can apply

your blush according to your face shape then this video is right here and if you

want to also subscribe to my channel then this is right inner corner thank

you so much for supporting me and I will see you soon in the next video bye

9 of the Weirdest Sperm Adaptations - Duration: 10:33.

[ Intro ]

Most people have at least a passing familiarity with sperm.

Like, you're probably picturing a tadpole-like thing with a head and a wiggly tail.

And that's a pretty good approximation of most mammalian swimmers.

Sperm across the animal kingdom all have basically the same job:

getting to the egg and fertilizing it.

But they have the most diverse shapes and sizes of any cell type.

That's because competition doesn't end with finding a mate — sperm duke it out inside

reproductive organs.

And that can lead to some really weird adaptations!

In fact, while researchers have described a lot of strange sperm, we don't always

have full explanations for how they came to exist.

So here are 9 kinds of sperm that might make you think twice about what you know about

reproduction.

All sperm are small — you need a microscope to see them.

But that doesn't mean they're the same size across species.

For instance, human sperm is about 50 micrometers long, while porcupine sperm averages around

28.

But the current record holder for longest sperm is the tiny fruit fly.

In one species, sperm have been measured up to 5.8 centimeters long.

Sure, most of that length is the tail.

But still, that's over 2000 times longer than that porcupine sperm and about 20 times the

body length of the actual fly!

Over the years, scientists have measured sperm in lots of different animal species.

And they've found that sperm size doesn't scale with the size of the animal that's

making it.

In fact, the opposite seems to be true: in general, smaller animals produce bigger sperm.

In larger animals, the females have longer, more voluminous reproductive tracts.

So that means there's a greater risk that sperm might not make it to an egg, or even

get lost in a sea of sperm from other males.

According to the sperm dilution hypothesis, the best strategy in this case seems to be

making a whole bunch of small sperm to compete.

But smaller animal species seem to produce longer or bigger sperm.

Smaller female reproductive tracts make for smaller battle arenas where sperm can push

each other around.

In the case of female fruit flies, scientists have found that part of their reproductive

tract called the seminal receptacle has evolved to be long and coiled in certain species.

So sperm cells have coevolved to match.

The females essentially tilt the playing field towards healthier males who have the nutrients

and energy to make longer sperm.

They're able to successfully beat out the competition and fertilize more eggs.

So, I guess, size does matter for them.

There's also a lot of variation in sperm shape.

Human sperm, for instance, has three main parts: There's the head, which contains

all the genetic material and a packet of enzymes that helps the sperm penetrate the egg.

Then, there's the midpiece.

It's packed with mitochondria — cellular structures that are basically tiny engines.

And that energy powers the third part: a tail that propels the sperm forward.

Human sperm, and a lot of mammalian sperm, has kind of a conehead.

But another common sperm shape is a corkscrew head, which sometimes extends through the

midpiece.

A wide variety of animals have this helical sperm — like, many birds, some beetles,

centipedes, and frogs.

And even though this twisty shape evolved multiple times, scientists aren't exactly

sure why.

One hypothesis is that it might help with movement, letting the sperm swim forward like

tiny turning drill bits.

But not all sperm swim!

Some species of worms called nematodes have sperm without tails.

Their sperm crawl kind of like amoebas do, using pseudopodia, or fake feet.

In amoebas, coordinated groups of microfilaments made of the protein actin extend the pseudopodia,

which stick to a surface and then retract to drag their cells along.

Nematode sperm crawling looks really similar.

But their pseudopodia are formed by filaments made of major sperm protein instead.

By comparing the ways these proteins work, scientists have learned more about different

mechanisms cells use to move.

And they think these sperm might be better off crawling because nematode fertilization

is a tight squeeze.

In nematodes, fertilization occurs in a sperm holding chamber called the spermatheca near

the ovary or ovaries.

To get there, nematode sperm need to make their way past the uterus.

But as they crawl there, they're working against a tide of already-fertilized eggs

that are moving down into the uterus, like bowling balls through a chute.

So maybe an army crawl just works a little better than a flutter kick.

Sometimes those army-crawling nematode sperm get a bit overzealous, though.

In one nematode genus, some species have a lot of sperm competition.

And scientists think that it benefits those males if their sperm get as close to the ovary

as possible, to try and intercept an egg.

This favors adaptations that lead to faster, more vigorously crawling sperm — although

scientists aren't quite sure what those adaptations are right now.

But that intensity can be unpleasant for their partner.

If the sperm overshoot their mark, they might enter the ovary, or even bust out of the reproductive

tract into the body cavity and wreak havoc.

So female reproductive tracts have co-evolved to be tougher and withstand the roughhousing.

But sometimes, things get confusing in a warm, dark compost pile, and nematodes from two

different species accidentally mate.

In a series of experiments, scientists found that if a species with lots of sperm competition

mates with a species with less competition, there can be a mismatch between sperm and

reproductive tract.

In one such cross-species matchup, the aggressive sperm entered the ovary 90% of the time and

broke through the female reproductive tract 7% of the time.

So… ouch.

Other sperm competition involves some tricky tactics outside the body too.

For instance, some flatworms are simultaneous hermaphrodites, which means they have functional

male and female reproductive organs.

They have sex by reciprocal mating, where the partners take turns donating and receiving

sperm.

Which seems pretty cooperative... but at least one species doesn't really play fair.

Frequently after mating, one flatworm will lean down and try to suck the sperm out of

its own female reproductive tract opening to get rid of it.

Maybe it was happy enough to fertilize that other flatworm's eggs to pass on its genes.

But it's saving its own precious eggs for a higher quality mate, or just saving its

energy.

But because of this two-timing behavior, the sperm has a trick up its sleeve too.

This flatworm's sperm has two stiff, backward-facing bristles on the head that act like barbs on

a fish hook.

They snag in the opening and make the sperm difficult to suck out — so it sticks around

and fertilizes those eggs.

Other sperm use teamwork, because, y'know, it makes the dream work.

In certain species of mice, for example, sperm form large swim teams to get to the egg.

These sperm have a hook on their head that can grab onto the head or tail of fellow sperm.

So they make a kind of disordered train-like structure.

Some scientists wanted to put deer mice sperm trains to the test, so they created a mathematical

model and also tested the swimmers under a microscope.

And they found that the sperm trains don't necessarily swim faster, but they do swim

straighter than a solo sperm.

That's because the wobbly movement of one sperm cancels out the wobbles of its partners

— kind of like all the hands on a Ouija board planchette.

So they take a straighter path to the egg spand get there sooner.

But if too many sperm link up, the train gets a derailed and they start working against

each other.

In fact, according to that study, the ideal number for a deer mouse sperm train is a lucky

Now, we tend to think of sperm as short-lived.

In humans, for instance, if sperm make it to the fallopian tubes, they may bind with

the walls and wait for a egg to be released.

But they only hang around for about 5 days max before they get broken down.

That's because sperm are stripped down DNA delivery packages.

They don't have the usual cellular machinery that allows most cells to make proteins and

repair themselves for a while.

But in some species, sperm cells live a long time — much longer than the males that produced

them.

In some insects, like leaf cutter ants and honeybees, the queen usually has one very

brief flurry of mating early in her life and then goes off to found a new colony.

During the nuptial flight, a female honeybee mates with 7 to 15 drones in just a couple

hours — which sounds like a whole lot of love, but it's a little… deadly.

Males only mate once, because when they ejaculate, their endophallus gets ripped off, which kills

them pretty quickly.

The queen stores millio ns of sperm in her spermatheca, and can use it for the rest of

her life — 3 or 4 years later.

In honeybee queens, scientists have found that they nourish the sperm as if it were

part of their own body.

The fluids inside the spermatheca provide the stored sperm with the proteins they need

for repair and maintenance.

Plus, there are antioxidant enzymes that may protect sperm from damaging oxidative stress,

so they have less need to repair themselves in the first place.

Sounds pretty cozy in there!

But if all this sperm is chilling in a spermatheca together, things aren't all fun and games.

The battle continues inside this chamber.

In one species of leafcutter ants, scientists found that if you expose one male's sperm

to another male's seminal fluid, the sperm died more quickly.

They think that proteins in the seminal fluid poison a rival's sperm.

But even with this sperm competition, it probably benefits the queen ant to have her offspring

sired by more than one male.

She doesn't want to put all her eggs in one basket, so to speak.

More genetic diversity is good!

Plus, those sperm need to last her for potentially two decades, so she can't have them all

poisoning each other.

So the researchers discovered that the queen provides an antidote.

When they exposed one male's sperm to seminal fluid from another male and added fluids from

a queen ant's spermatheca, all the negative effects were neutralized.

Sperm competition can definitely lead to odd sperm adaptations, but lack of competition

can also lead to some weirdness.

In species that are more monogamous, sperm of different males aren't usually in direct

competition.

This means that quality control may not be such a priority.

Take humans.

We're generally pretty monogamous compared to many species.

And, according to some estimates, about 90% of the sperm in human ejaculate are deformed

— they might have two heads, two tails, pin heads, or other things.

And this is totally normal.

But, take comfort, because we don't have the worst sperm.

That title probably goes to the naked mole rat… because apparently everything about

these rodents is weird.

Naked mole rats are eusocial animals, which basically means they live in really tight-knit,

cooperative colonies.

Only one female in the colony reproduces and she chooses from one to three males to mate

with for a lifetime.

This means that there's almost no sperm competition.

Scientists have found that only about 7% of naked mole rat sperm are normal and functional

— most have a deformity.

And only up to 15% of a naked mole rat's sperm can even swim.

Despite sounding bad, this wonky sperm is honestly just practical.

Producing perfect sperm is costly in energy — so why bother if they don't need to be

perfect to be successful.

- I don't want to try 'cause I feel like

I'm gonna mess it up.

- It's Noo-yin?

I had a friend in high school named Julian Noo-yin.

- It's not.

- Waynge?

- No.

- It's Noo-wen?

- It's still wrong.

- I feel like I just blew your mind.

- I've been saying Noy-wen since middle school.

- N'wen.

- Alright I'll take that.

- Wen?

Hmmm?

- It's actually Wheng.

- Wang. Wang?

Wheng.

- Oh, I don't want to try again.

- Wheng.

- Wang.

Everybody always says Wang.

It's Wheng.

- What? Can you come closer and say that again?

- Wheng.

- Wayne?

- You're just saying Wayne now.

- I wanna crawl into your mouth and figure out

where you're holding the word.

- Wheng.

- Whang?

- That's actually good.

- So the thing about the Vietnamese language,

is that it's a monosyllabic language,

so every single word is only one syllable.

So Nguyen is one word, so Noy-wen is not correct.

A lot of the sounds that goes into my last name,

doesn't really exist in the English language.

- Nancy told me how to pronounce her last name last year,

and my dentist has the same last name,

so I was able to call her doctor Wheng,

and I could tell it meant a lot to her

that I said her last name correctly.

Thank you, Nancy.

- I've heard my last name butchered in so many different

ways that nothing really phases me anymore.

We're all learning today.

Not really me, but definitely a lot of other people are.

("Blue Danube")

- I'm really sorry, Nancy.

(laughing)

- It's okay, we're still good friends.

You want a hug?

- [friend] Yes.

The Most Savage Celebrity Audience Reactions Ever - Duration: 5:09.

Thanks to the internet, savage celebrity reactions can become viral sensations before the event

they're attending is even over.

From eye rolls to outbursts, it's all fair game for the memeverse.

Whether these famous folks were swept up in the moment or their expressions were simply

misunderstood, these displays of emotion became fertile ground for web entertainment.

Here are some of the most savage celeb audience reactions.

Taylor Swift

When singer Harry Styles was on stage with One Direction presenting at the 2013 VMAs,

his ex, pop star Taylor Swift, was caught apparently mouthing the words "Shut the f--k

up" to her BFF, Selena Gomez.

Savage, right?

Swift's pal Ed Sheeran tried to clear the whole thing up by claiming Swift was actually

reacting to Gomez's speculation that Miley Cyrus would win an award that Gomez was up

for.

Whether it was towards Styles or Cyrus, Swift wasn't holding back that night.

But this wasn't the only time Swift got caught on camera.

There was also the time when Gomez kissed Justin Bieber backstage at The Billboard Music

Awards, and Swift was caught looking totally grossed out.

Oops!

Blue Ivy

Thanks to Beyoncé's internet-shattering pregnancy announcement at the 2011 VMAs, Blue Ivy was

a viral celeb before she was even born.

Since then, Blue Ivy has stolen the spotlight just about every time she's been in it, including

at the Grammys in 2018, when she was caught in the audience apparently trying to stop

her parents from clapping.

Precocious?

Possibly.

Legendary?

Absolutely.

Samuel L. Jackson

If there's any celeb we expect to constantly dish out savage audience reactions, it's Samuel

L. Jackson, and over the years, he has not disappointed.

When he lost the Oscar for his role in Pulp Fiction to Martin Landau in 1995, Jackson

was caught on camera visibly exclaiming, "S--t!"

Speaking with Deadline in 2012, Jackson still seemed just as salty about that loss, saying,

"I was thinking, I didn't know it was a thing where if you get nominated for a few times

you automatically get one.

I thought it was supposed to be about impact."

Faith Hill

After losing Female Vocalist of the Year to Carrie Underwood at the 2006 CMAs, Faith Hill

responded by throwing her arms up in the air and appearing to scream, "What?"

As savage as it may have looked, Hill later told People that it was, quote, "unimaginable"

to her that her joke would be misconstrued.

Underwood herself confirmed all of this to CMT News, saying,

"I knew she didn't mean it.

[…] She called me immediately and said, 'It's no big deal.

I'm so sorry.

I was just messing around, and it was sort of a joke gone bad, and I would never disrespect

you.'"

Leonardo DiCaprio

When actor Leonardo DiCaprio appeared to shrink away from Lady Gaga as she walked past him

to accept her award for Best Actress in a Miniseries at the 2016 Golden Globes, the

internet went absolutely wild.

Entertainment Tonight told him all about the viral moment backstage.

"That's trending, huh?"

"That's trending.

You see how quick it happens."

"I just didn't know what was passing me, that's all, I was like 'Whoa!'"

Fortunately, the "Born This Way" singer and DiCaprio were both good sports about the whole

thing.

The Titanic star told ITV's This Morning,

"We were laughing at it at the after party!"

Bill Murray

When Bill Murray lost his only Oscar nomination to Sean Penn in 2005, his disappointment was

palpable.

Moments before, as he was announced as a nominee, Murray rolled his eyes and looked as if he

already knew the outcome.

Ten years later, Murray told Charlie Rose that he was actually surprised by the loss.

"I won all the prizes on the way to it.

I had some funny things I was gonna say, you know.

I was ready to go."

Murray went on to say that in retrospect, he was glad he lost, noting the trend of Oscar

winners who have struggled for years after they win the big prize.

Brie Larson

Oscar winner Brie Larson's savage reaction came in the form of a sort of silent protest.

After presenting Casey Affleck with the Oscar for Best Actor for his performance in Manchester

by the Sea, Larson graciously accepted a hug, but moments earlier, she refused to clap after

reading his name.

Viewers quickly noticed the snub and leapt to the conclusion that Larson was signaling

her feelings about Affleck having previously been accused of harassment.

Speaking with Vanity Fair, Larson shed a bit more light on the subject, saying,

"I think that whatever it was that I did onstage kind of spoke for itself.

I've said all that I need to say about that topic."

Boom.

Tommy Lee Jones

In an interview with Howard Stern, funnyman Jim Carrey claimed he bumped into Tommy Lee

Jones at a restaurant back in 1995, and Jones allegedly told Carrey that he "hated" him.

"I was like, 'Wow, ok ,well what's going on man?'

And he said, uh, 'I cannot sanction your buffoonery.'"

Cut to 18 years later at the 2013 Golden Globe Awards when Jones was still clearly not a

fan of buffoonery.

This time it was Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig's bit about Jones' film Hope Springs

that seemed to stir up the same unfriendly emotions.

His ice cold glare was all that was needed to express how he truly felt.

Christian Slater

At the 2017 Golden Globes, Tom Hiddleston's rambling acceptance speech was criticized

by some as too self-congratulatory and culturally insensitive - and actor Christian Slater's

seemingly savage reaction to Hiddleston's remarks went totally viral.

Though Slater has yet to publicly reflect on his dumbfounded facial expression, Hiddleston

has since apologized for his remarks, writing on Facebook, in part, "I completely agree

that my speech at the Golden Globes last night was inelegantly expressed.

In truth, I was very nervous, and my words came out wrong."
