Ewan McGregor Talks About Working on Stephen King's Doctor Sleep - Duration: 3:23.

-Your next project is gonna be this again,

taking a young character we know,

playing him as an older person --

Danny Torrance from "The Shining" movie,

the kid from "The Shining" book.

'Cause Stephen King wrote a sequel called "Doctor Sleep."

-Yes, and I'm doing that. -That's really exciting.

-Yeah, I'm really excited about it.

It's a great, great script, and Mike Flanagan's directing,

who's made some really, really good, scary horror films.

So it should be good. It's a wonderful story.

What will be interesting about it is that

there's "The Shining" the movie and Stephen King's novel.

And I don't know that Stephen -- You know, the story is --

he wasn't very fond of the movie.

-Right.

-And so it will be interesting to see --

'Cause this is quite a faithful adaptation

of his novel "Doctor Sleep."

But it will be interesting to see how fans of the movie

take it versus fans of the novel

and if we can please everybody.

We'll see.

-Or if you do it exactly to the book,

and Stephen King's still like, "Nah, I don't like it either."

Yeah. [ Laughter ]

But I'm realizing now, because I think last time you were here,

we talked about the sequel to "Trainspotting,"

which I loved so much.

But, like, that also was you

playing a character 20 years later.

At least it was one you played in the first case.

But this is, like, an era of films that you're doing now,

that you're taking young people

and just showing what they look --

-I'm the guy. -Yeah.

-"Play this guy older. Well, get him."

-Yeah. -"Get the Scotsman."

I don't know why that is, but I quite like it.

I mean, it will be interesting with Danny,

because, again, here, he exists in the novel,

so I have to try and get him right based on the novel

and Stephen's writing and the fans of the book.

And that's slightly different.

In this case, nobody really knows what

Christopher Robin was like when he was 40 [mumbles] years old.

And so it wasn't a pressure on me as such.

-I also think nobody really --

When you think about the "Winnie the Pooh" books,

you didn't really think about his personality that much.

-No.

-You know, you realize like, "Oh, it was more --"

You know, I think kids weren't like,

"Let's see what Christopher Robin was up to."

I think they were like, "Show me Winnie the Pooh."

-Yes, that's right.

He's sort of like the parent, in a way.

-Yeah, exactly. -It's lovely.

It's so beautifully written, the A.A. Milne books.

They're so clever, the way he starts.

He's writing about Christopher Robin

as if he's telling the story to him.

So he writes, "You did this" and "You do that."

And I was reading it to my little 7-year-old, Anouk,

recently, and she was like, "Who?

Who? What? Who? You?"

And I was saying, "No, he's writing it to you,

but you're Christopher Robin."

And it was really clever, because, suddenly,

the child is in the middle of the story, you know.

-That's fantastic. I did not remember that.

-Yeah, yeah.

-Now, so, you start the Stephen -- I'm sorry.

You start "Doctor Sleep" in September,

so you have some time off.

Have you done anything with your time off?

Have you enjoyed yourself? -I haven't worked since this.

I took all of this year off. -Oh, that's fantastic.

-And I've never done that.

And I just needed to, 'cause I needed to stop

and be at home, back in L.A.

And it's been great. Yeah, I don't know what I did.

I was very busy doing not very much at all.

-Is it -- So, if you look back at the year, you feel busy,

but would you say it's safe to say

you have nothing to show for it?

[ Laughter ]

Did you pick up a new skill? Did you --

-No. I just had a chance to try and hone some of the other ones

that I hadn't practiced very much all this time.

You know, I just found I was having time

to enjoy the things that I like to do.

You know I love old motorbikes and old cars.

And I got a chance to putter around in them

and spend time with my kids.

-That's good. That's perfect. I think that's time well spent.

-I do, as well. -Okay, excellent.

Ewan McGregor Reveals Christopher Robin's Movie Magic - Duration: 6:45.

-Our first guest tonight is a Golden Globe-winning actor

you know from such films as "Moulin Rouge!"

and the "Star Wars" prequels

as well as his Emmy-nominated work in the FX series "Fargo."

He stars in "Christopher Robin", which is in theaters tomorrow.

Let's take a look.

-This place is very big.

Do you live here all alone?

-Just now, yes, but usually, no.

My wife and daughter

are in the countryside for the weekend.

-Well, why -- [ grunts ] -- aren't you with them?

-Well -- [ Sighs ]

-Sticky business.

-I had to say for work.

Why are you here and not in the forest with your friends?

That's the question.

-Well, I couldn't find anybody.

I couldn't find anyone, either.

And I looked for them both --

Hello? -[ Sighs ]

Piglet? Eeyore?

Tigger?

Where is everybody?

-Exactly. Where is Tigger or Kanga or Roo?

-That's why I'm here.

-Please welcome back to the show Ewan McGregor, everyone!

-So lovely to have you back.

-I'm glad to be here. Very nice.

-This is very exciting, you are --

For those who couldn't figure it out from the clip...

-Yeah.

-...you're an adult Christopher Robin.

-Yes. A grown-up Christopher Robin.

-That's very exciting. -Yeah, it's nice.

It's nice to take someone that we know iconically like that,

like, a young -- I've done it the other way.

In the "Star Wars" films, I took an older character,

who was iconic, and tried to play him as a younger man.

And this time, it's the reverse.

-Yeah, that's -- -Yeah.

-You'll have to let me how this one works out for you.

-Yeah, we'll see. We'll see how it goes.

-And, obviously, an incredible amount of CGI in this film.

-Yes. Well, yes.

It's so funny, because I remember it like that.

Like, I remember, we had a little Winnie the Pooh

who was like a Teddy bear.

He wasn't a puppet or he wasn't animated in any way.

-'Cause you couldn't get the real Winnie the Pooh, right?

He turned down the project. -He was too -- Yeah.

-Yeah. -He was too expensive.

-Yeah, of course. -That's the problem.

But we had this little Teddy bear,

and then, a Teddy bear for each of the creatures.

And Marc Forster, our brilliant director,

cast this group of enthusiastic young actors,

most of them just out of drama school,

to play each of the creatures.

So when we were playing a scene,

you know, they would be there with the Teddy bear.

They'd move him around and do the voice

and act with us in the scenes.

And then improvise.

We wanted to go away from the text and improvise.

They would improvise with us, and they were brilliant.

And I got used to his little face,

because he looked just like that.

I mean, it was like acting with a little bear.

-Yeah. [ Laughter ]

-So when I watched the film for the first time, I sort of --

I kept having to remind myself that he wasn't there on the day.

[ Laughter ] -Right, yeah.

-'Cause it's just sort of how I remember it.

And because we know the characters so well,

I could imagine how he might be.

But they did him so beautifully.

-It's really wonderful. And the voice is someone

who voiced him in the 1980 "Winnie the Pooh" cartoons.

-Jim Cummings. -Yeah, which is incredibly nice

to hear such a familiar voice.

It would be weird

if Winnie the Pooh sounded different.

-Someone else, yes. -If he had, like,

a thick New York accent, it would be a huge --

[ Laughter ]

-Or Scottish. -Yeah, Scottish, yeah.

-[ Scottish accent ] Christopher!

Christopher Robin!

-[ Scottish accent ] Get your head out of your ass!

[ Laughter ]

-[ Normal voice ] That was very good.

-[ Normal voice ] Oh, thank you very much.

I can't believe I had the nerve to do my B-minus

Scottish impression in front of you.

-That was really good, yeah.

-But now, you would think a child would be excited

to come on set and see these actors holding these puppets.

But some of the puppets

would maybe freak out a child if they came.

-Yes. We had --

The truth is, we had the beautiful finished product,

the lovely bear to act with.

And it was for the visual effects people

to see what he looked like in the light and everything.

But they couldn't animate him on top of that hairy bear,

so we had -- [ Laughter ]

I just said "hairy bear" on television.

-Yeah. -But we had --

[ Laughter ]

-A lot of people who were, like, in the kitchen

and had totally tuned this out, were like, "Oh!"

-"Wait a minute." [ Laughter ]

So they had a gray --

Just a canvas bear with no hair.

And they, I guess,

they would animate him on top of that gray bear.

But they also sometimes needed one without a head.

So you'd do takes with the gray headless bear.

[ Laughter ]

And then, there was a real horror show one

where it was just his torso -- no arms, legs, or head.

And it was like the Guillermo del Toro version.

[ Laughter ]

And then they had an arm on a stick, a Pooh --

A Pooh on a stick. They had an arm...

[ Laughter ]

...on a stick. [ Laughter and applause ]

And they had his little feet on sticks, as well,

for the little footstep shots and stuff so...

-See, that's all haunting. -Yeah.

-Although, they could use the torso and do a sequel

where Tigger comes and says, "Something awful's happened."

[ Laughter ]

-"I lost my mind. I don't know what I --"

-"I don't know." -"I don't know what I did."

-"I did something. I woke up, I did something!"

[ Laughter ]

Have you read the books? Is that something --

-Yes. I mean, I read them to all my girls.

The first one, anyway.

There's a series of four or five books.

But I'm familiar with the first volume.

And then I'm sure I must have been read it when I was a kid,

'cause I'm so familiar with those stories.

-And then this sort of --

this film takes place post-World War II.

And did the timing of when this was happening

inform how you wanted to play Christopher Robin?

-Yeah. I love that era.

I watched quite a lot film --

I watched a lot of early Alec Guinness films.

There's a great film called "Man in a White Suit"

that I watched. -Mm-hmm.

-And there's a British film I watched,

"From Here to Eternity."

[ Proper British accent ] And anything where everyone

spoke like that. You know.

-Yeah. -"Are you happy, darling?"

"Terribly." That kind of thing.

[ Normal voice ] And there was one film

that was very handy to me.

There's a film called "Genevieve."

-Okay. -Which was about

a vintage car race in the early '50s or late '40s.

And that one was -- the main character in that

is quite like Christopher Robin.

-That's nice that you got to -- that's a very wonderful thing

to be able to do research for your work

that is just, like, watching cool old movies.

-Watching old films. -Yeah.

-'Cause I grew up watching those old films.

And so there's -- I feel like I've been waiting

to play this kind of guy for a long time.

-When you were young and watching films like that,

were other people your age watching films like that?

Because that seems a little... [ Light laughter ]

-I don't think -- Well, I don't know.

On the weekends, on BBC Two, they'd have like matinees

on a Saturday and Sunday, they'd play two old films back to back.

And I would always be propped up on my elbows watching them.

But I don't know. I didn't --

-I do think that I, looking back,

I saw a lot of old films because there was nothing else on.

-Yeah. -And Netflix didn't exist.

-That's right. -Yeah.

-So you'd be like, "You tell me, TV."

[ Laughter ]

-Yeah, "What is it?" -"Yeah, it's up to you."

-"What's it gonna be today?"

Yeah, exactly. No, that's right.

Super Fast Zoom Transition! - Duration: 7:41.

Hi this is Jay Haynes for the Film Sensei YouTube channel. Today in this

video we're going to do this zoom style transition, but we're going to

do it in the free version of HiFfilm Express, version 8, we're gonna do it on

the editor timeline only, no composite shot necessary, and we're going to use

only 1080p footage. Stay tuned!

So I've actually done a couple of tutorials on this topic before, but I've

always used a composite shot to do that. And to give credit where credit's due, I

recently watched a very fine tutorial by Aiden Robbins... the very awesome young

youtuber, and he also used a composite shot, but while I was watching his video

I thought, you know, you could do this without a composite shot. And so I

decided to give it a shot, play around it a little bit and here's

what I came up with. So I have some raw footage here. I'm just gonna take this

raw footage and drop it on to the editor timeline. This is 6 seconds of raw

footage, and essentially what I have here is I have this close-up of this tree

that then cuts to a far away shot. And this is all in the same, you know, in the

same clip here. Okay, now can I go ahead and create a zoom transition right here in

this clip without needing any sort of composite shot or anything? And the

answer is yes I can and it's actually quite amazing. So here's what I'm gonna

do... I'm gonna drag this panel over so it's bigger, and the reason is because I

want to click on the control tab and then, this right here is the display

timeline icon, if I click this it's shooom, and now I have this really nice timeline.

I'm gonna go ahead and expand it so you can see the entire timeline here. Okay, but

this shows everything that we have going on in terms of effects and properties. Okay.

I'm going to start by bring in a perspective warp effect and I'm gonna

drop that right here on to this clip. Okay. I'm going to open this up and the Z

distance is what we're going to mess with. Okay. If I take the Z distance from 1

and I make it say 0.5 then it gets closer if I take it from 1 and make it

say 2 it gets further away and you'll notice that it gets further away by, you

know, if I keep going by making it, you know, just repeating it with a tile or

reflective look. It could be a tile it could be reflective, whatever. Okay,

what I'm going to do is I'm going to start it at one, okay, and the actual cut

happens here at the three-second mark. So what I want to do is I want to take it

back to the two second mark. Okay? And I'm gonna keyframe it. Then I'm going to go

to two twenty nine one frame before it makes its cut, and I'm going to back it

out to say 2 okay or I could go even further. Then I'm gonna advance forward

one frame, and now I'm gonna put it at .5. Okay, so it's far out and then,

or far in I mean, and then I'm gonna go to the four second mark and I am going

to put it back at one. Okay, so essentially what I have over this frame

is, and if you watch the screen you'll see as I scrub through it, it's going to

back out then it'll continue backing out. Okay, so the whole thing will have this shooooooom...

like that. Okay? But the secret is going to be in the speed ramping that we do

here. All right, and that's how the interpolation of these frames is going

to happen. So what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna grab all of these frames by

highlighting them like this, and then I'm gonna click. Instead of them being linear

keyframes, I'm gonna make them constant, sorry manual bezier. And then I'm gonna

open up the value graph by clicking here. And you can see how these things are now.

I want them to ramp into and out of this shot. Okay, so I'm gonna take this handle

and just drag it over, and then I'm gonna take this handle and drag it down like

this. Okay, in the meantime I'm going to bring this handle up on the other side,

and I'm gonna drag this one over. Okay, so now if you watch the screen again as I

scrub through you'll see that it stays, stays, stays, and then shooom, quicker. See?

And that's really the secret to making this look really nice. Okay?

Is that little quick sort of thing, and if I get in here a little bit closer...

Right! You can, gosh that's so sweet right now. You can

still see that it's replicating and duplicating, so we're going to hide that

with another effect. And the effect we're going to use is the zoom blur effect. So

I'm gonna drag that in underneath the perspective warp. Okay? I'm gonna come

back to my two second mark. I'm gonna open this up, and the quality of the

strength of that will be zero, and I will keyframe that. Okay, I'm gonna come to one

frame in front of the switch, and then I'm going to zoom it back to negative

100. Okay, I'm gonna advance forward one frame,

and then I'm gonna make it positive 100. And then I'm gonna go to the four second

mark, and I'm going to set it back to zero. And again, like before, I want to

ramp that. So I'm gonna go ahead and capture them all with my cursor and then

I am going to make them manual bezier. And again I want to move these handles

so that they start off slow and then quickly go into the zoom, and then

quickly come out of the zoom, and then move to a slower out of the whole

shot. So from here if you watch the video, you can see, shooom. Right That's what it looks

like. Okay? And so now if we have the entire shot here, and I back up, and I

just... Let me just button that up, bring this over here now what do I have, is

this sort of shoooom, all in one shot. Right? Okay, now can you do this between two

clips? Absolutely! You just have to keyframe them across the two clips. Can I

do it backwards so it zooms in on something? You bet! I can zoom in like

that, or I can zoom out like this. Okay, it's actually really super easy to do

that. Okay? Yeah, and it looks really cool. Now, if you were zooming in, one little

You have to qualify for the Bank of Canaada rate which is about 4.99

today or 2 basis points above what you qualify for.

So let's say you've got a rate 2% for you, you still would have to qualify for 4%

It isn't such a bad thing because, you know, for every $100,000

every percentage up it's going to cost you about $50 a month so if you had to

go up 2 points it's about a $100 a month and if you can't do that

in five years when you renew you may not be able to afford your mortgage.

I agree with you. I don't think it's totally bad.

It just makes it harder sometimes for first-timers in particular.

Well it's interesting you say that because

even if you qualify for a mortgage- if you have a mortgage now and your term that we talked about

before came up and you need to re-qualify for a mortgage or get another term

you're still going to have to go through that stress which unless you stay with

your current lender so that's going to could limit your ability to shop

which could limit your ability to get a better rate.

Yeah it's interesting when

it goes to renew a lot of times you get this automatic letter with a rate and I

think that's just a starting point you should be able to negotiate that down.

Ask for better.

Yeah so there's a lot of different options and it's- I think it's

important- this is such a big purchase, right, or this is one of your largest

assets for many people and I think a lot of us have all been guilty of just

signing it and you know signing five million times on that document and not

necessarily reading and understanding the clauses and I think it's important

that we take the time to do that so those are things to also consider and

deal with professionals, call April and I do what you got to do

so that you can make this work for you.

Blue House evaluates progress 100 days since Panmunjom Declaration - Duration: 2:01.

Tomorrow will be the 100th day since the historic meeting between President Moon Jae-in and

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

The nation's top office looked back Friday at the achievements made so far... to implement

the Panmunjom Declaration.

Park Hee-jun shares with us Cheong Wa Dae's evaluation.

Saturday will mark 100 days since the Panmunjom Declaration was adopted by the two Koreas

at the historic summit on April 27th.

In a press release Friday,...

South Korea's presidential office looked at how much progress has been made since then

to implement it.

The Panmunjom Declaration aims to improve inter-Korean relations.

Since it was adopted,...

South Korea has pushed for inter-Korean cooperation to be enhanced in various fields, including

railways, highways, forestry, and sports,... through a series of bilateral discussions.

There's also the reunion of separated families coming up on August 20th.

One hundred people from each side will participate in the reunion,... and preparations are well

underway to renovate the facilities at Mount Geumgang where they'll be meeting.

A lot of effort has also been made to defuse military tensions on the Peninsula.

Just last year,... things reached a boiling point because of the North's continued missile

provocations.

But the Blue House says...

South Koreans are now completely free from the fear of war,... as the two sides have

halted all hostile acts, restored military communication channels, and are working to

establish a peace zone in the West Sea.

And all this work is aimed at establishing permanent peace on the Korean Peninsula,...

a key agenda of the Panmunjom Declaration.

Seoul is working closely with relevant parties, including Washington,... to formally declare

an end to the Korean War by the end of the year.

North Korea has also taken important steps to gain the United States' trust.

Seoul's presidential office said South Korea will continue to support North Korea-U.S.

relations to achieve peace and denuclearization,... and added that the two Koreas are planning

a third summit in Pyongyang in the fall.
