It's starting line day
We've got our turtle ready. He's gonna go on top of our tuk tuk.
There was no longer a team of two. We've got a team of three with this badass tortuga.
the supertrash turtle
Have you ever kissed a turtle made of trash? if not, your chance is comin' at ya Sri Lanka!
It was an ordinary day in Sri Lanka and then this happened
Starting line
We've been waiting for this moment for days
Day one we would drive from the starting line in Hikkaduwa, to Midigama.
Hello! What do you make? It's for rope?
So we already accomplished two challenges and got bonus points so far today.
So now we're on our way to visit some Good Travel people
We're going to a school to talk to kids about recycling and I just changed my clothes in the back of the tuk tuk
because I didn't wanna wear my fairy costume to the school.
Thank goodness for rain flaps, it worked pretty well! There's a first time for everything.
Hello
Nice to meet you!
My name is Carrie. You guys see what's on the top?
Can you tell what it is? TURTLE!!!
Good morning. Welcome to Thomas Galle school. My name is Jessica. I'm the principal here
Basically, what we do here is a twice a month recycling project. Any of our families can bring their recycling from home
The kids wash it, the kids sort it, and the parents pay for it with donations
So all the recycling goes to Thalpe Recycling point and anything we can use in school we upcycle or we use in arts and crafts.
recycled means to take an old thing
Crush it up and make it a new thing!
The food, we can't put it in the garbage, we must put it in the compost.
Vegetables put in compost.
So if you saw a box with this sign on it, what can we do with that
We recycle! If you look for the green sign there are three arrows. Can you remember about these three hours arrow?
reduce, reuse
Re....
Recycle!
We reuse something that is called? Upcycle!
And they ask us, do you want a plastic bag? What shall we say?
No, way! So shall we throw everything onto the mat and arrange it?
We're gonna check out Stick No Bills, they make these like pop art posters that are really cool.
We're in the Tuk Tuk
Tournament and we're team Good Travel. So we're teaching people about recycling and helping with like sustainable tourism. Yeah
Yeah, so the turtle is our mascot and he's made out of plastic bottles and all recycled materials
We're you going today? Today we go to Midigama.
So we will have lunch in the fort, then go to Midigama.
Hi, I'm Namal, I'm from Galle. I'm the owner of Pilgrims Hostel.
I stopped the plastic.
all plastic bottle and
plastic straw and most plastic thing and all plastic thing I try to stop use.
I want to stop the plastic, all. At the moment I do refill water,
metal straw.
lot of plastic everywhere and if you go
Any road, walk the road also, so many plastic in the road. If you can stop the plastic, that will never happen there.
When I say to guests, we don't have plastic, actually guests are really happy about that. They say "WOW, thats a good thing"
We stopped along the way in the tourist hotspot of Unawatuna to have a coffee and some cake at Kat's.
Katz has friendly staff, delicious coffee, and it really is an oasis from the busy streets outside
What we do with bottles! They go in the turtle's belly!
The Tuk Tournament, the abjective of the tournament is to collect gems. You collect the gems based off the map challenges that covers the entire country of Sri Lanka
Using the map, you find the challenges, take a selfie with your idol. After taking a selfie
you are awarded the gems. The team at the end with the most gems wins the tournament.
There's also many other ways to earn points besides what's on the map
These can range from taking a picture with a smiling police officer, to drinking a coconut along the side of the road
No straw I have a straw
What was that sound?! Nothing probably...
I totally left our Idol on top, didn't get it down. We drove away.
So now we have no Tuk Tuk Idol.
Pretty much our most important part of the tournament, so we're screwed.
