Done With Bonaparte | Mark Knopfler Songbook | Lesson 38 - Duration: 11:18.
I'm happy to report, that when I was preparing
this lesson, one time late at night I played
a demo version of this song from one of
the bootlegs and all of the sudden
it just made me cry.
Yeah.
I felt a burst of emotions so hard
I couldn't stand it, and this is
after all these years!
It's unbelievable.
It made me cry just like this
poor French soldier this song is all about.
Now this is the song where Mark
got carried away with variety.
The key signature changes a lot
ranging from Bb to D Major with stops…
in between.
It's like two whole steps difference.
Also, he played it on different instruments,
with an Irish band, with the melody
being played on the keyboards, accordion,
violin, he even played it solo.
My favourite version is the demo version
I talked about earlier and the album version,
which is in Bb and a capo on the 3rd fret.
With some amazing electric bass work by…
Paul Moore — Van Morrison's bass player.
I wish Mark would play something like that live
but it's always a double bass instead.
See,
even the bass department went crazy on this one.
Here I'll play it in C, like what Mark did solo
on this talk show special.
And this IS the best way to play it if you
don't happen to have the whole band with you.
Also, there's an open G tuning version,
but more on that later on.
The right hand pattern is like the song itself —
it needs variety.
Basically it's a mix of fingerpicking,
alternating bass with the thumb, and just
straight up 2/4 strumming.
And what's the easiest way to know where
to use strumming and when fingerpicking?
The answer is: there's no way, you have
to learn both and then chose.
The chords, by the way, are
C, F, F, G, C, F, F, G.
Now with the thumb.
And strumming.
And from there little by little you build it up.
Start to add different bass.
The goal is to be able to switch the right hand
pattern any time.
And only then add the melody.
But with only one pattern it sounds too simple,
so that's why you have the choice.
It's really hard to explain the song like this,
because it's a bunch of tricks and
none of which are particularly hard.
Like the saying goes,
the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
By the way, real chords are
C, F, Dm7/F, G/B, C, Fmaj7, F, G. Repeat.
Another necessity is thumb-over-the-top.
If you want to play the song like that,
you have to learn it, and it's one of the crucial
tricks you can learn.
Almost every video I talk
about it and it's because it's REALLY one of
the main elements of Mark's playing.
And if I talk about it in almost every video,
maybe it's something that worth learning.
So you learn this, you learn that, and in
the end you can play something.
At least I can tell what to learn.
Next goes the verse, and it's easier.
Pattern is:
Thumb, downstroke, thumb, up, down, up.
It's your basic strumming,
like many of the songs I reviewed before.
The verses goes like:
Am, C/G, G, Fmaj7.
Am, C/G, G, F, G, C.
Chorus:
F, C, Am, C/G, Dm7, F and to the melody.
Fsus2 chord like this is another one you can't play
other than… like that.
Just lift one finger off and that's it.
Learn to use the thumb!
Now, regarding an open G tuning.
It's cool, but you kind of need a band to play it
in this tuning, otherwise the song simply won't work.
Same thing happens when you try to play it
with a capo on any fret.
Because of this G shape.
And the D chord really
getting a little bit lost in the arrangement, so it just
doesn't sound good enough.
And if you'll try the open G tuning you'll
stumble upon same sorts of trade-offs
which makes it easier, but ridiculous to play solo.
Again, it just doesn't FEEL good.
Technically you can play it in any tuning of course.
And I'll publish the chords for an open G
tuning on Ultimate Guitar if you want to give it a try.
But this minimalistic C Major version feels
really good and it's what I recommend
if you want to play this song.
Thanks for watching!

Super Easy Tape Organizer - How To Make One - Duration: 4:01.
Welcome back to Make Build Modify. I'm Justin and today I need a way to
organize my tape. This is a tape organizer that is probably one of the
easiest and most efficient designs I've ever seen. I've seen a few out there like
this but nothing that uses as a little wood and effort as this one does. This is
1" by 5" or 3/4" by 4 1/2" and I just cut two 30" pieces. Now I'm just
nailing them together. I'm not using glue or screws or anything. It's just for tape
it's plenty strong. Now in order to get the ends I'm just going to line up the
lapped pieces with a 45° until I have one corner at the end and the other one that
matches the 45°. I'm going to draw a line where I need to cut it and there's also a
little nose that needs to get cut off right here. All the parts including these
ends are cut from the same stock.
Just line it up and use the first one for a stencil.
Same thing with the end here just line it up and mark it again. That way you
don't have to think about it.
I'm using a 1 1/2" 18-gauge pin nails.
I'm marking for my countersinks. I'm just going four inches in on each end.
I have plywood on my wall so it doesn't really matter where I run screws. If you
end up countersinking your fasteners in your trough just make sure you pay
attention to where your studs are or whatever fasteners you're going to use
for the wall. Whether it's molly's or anchors. As you can see I made a few of
these tape organizers. On this second large shelf
I used a roll of duct tape to determine whether or not I could actually get the
tape out once it is installed. That's probably the biggest rolled I'm going to
have. These racks can be installed on a sheet of plywood and you could use that
anywhere in the shop and move it around. I hope this video was helpful to you
and if you know someone else that would enjoy it please share it with them.
The tools I used in this build are listed in the description and if you think I
earned it please subscribe.

What is QMB? - Duration: 3:20.
In today's edition of Kathy's Mini Classe, we're going to learn what a QMB is.
And if don't know and if you're accepting Medicare patients, you better know.
So stay tuned.
Hi, it's Kathy Mills Chang.
Today in Kathy's Mini Class, we're going to learn a very important Medicare compliance
issue that has seemingly gone undetected based on the questions that we get.
It's called QMB.
Now, a QMB is a Qualified Medicare Beneficiary.
Now, this is a special kind of a patient.
Why?
Because they're getting some extra assistance from Medicare because they may qualify for
Medicaid.
Now, whether or not chiropractic care is covered under Medicaid in your state, we still have
to identify the patient as potentially having a benefit under QMB status.
Now most importantly, you have to know how to figure that out.
Now it won't be on their Medicare card, it might be on a Medicaid card, up here in the
corner, but not every time.
The fool-proof way to know whether a beneficiary is qualified as a QMB is to go to the HIPAA
Eligibility Transaction System or HETS.
It is the way that KMC University recommends that you verify all Medicare anyway, and the
QMB status is one of the statistics that you can get from there.
Now what does it mean, a QMB status beneficiary is essentially someone who's proven hardship
in some way, either financial hardship or disability.
And Medicare has deemed that they do not pay Medicare co-insurance, perhaps that even includes
deductible and they may even get a break on their Medicare Part B premium.
Therefore, if they're in your office you may not charge a co-pay.
So, if Medicare allows $28 and twenty percent is supposed to come from the patient, in this
case if they are a QMB you must write that off.
If Medicaid covers chiropractic in your state, chances are that under those circumstances
they may be responsible for a small Medicaid co-payment.
But the very most important thing for you to remember, is that if your patient is a
QMB, you cannot charge those additional charges without understanding how that works.
We recommend you verify every Medicare patient through the HETS system, not only because
of QMB, but to make sure they're not a Medicare Advantage patient.
We have a wonderful fact sheet everything about Medicare, QMB's as well as verification
right in our KMC University Library.
It is the most comprehensive collection of Medicare training available in the profession.

Photo reports from China - Duration: 2:34.
Mao Tsetung aged 44 - an absolutely historic picture,
explains curator Peter Pfrunder.
China was at war with Japan
and every photo reporter wanted to meet the already famous Mao.
Walter Bosshard knew some very influential people.
He asked one of the most important party officials
to write him a letter of recommendation
and that's how he got to see Mao.
Bosshard also took probably the very first moving pictures
of the founder of the People's Republic.
Pfrunder realized the significance of these pictures
when he showed them to Chinese people.
They generally laughed, found it really funny
that this stony figure that they have seen in countless monuments
in public places, in various forms,
that this statue also has a human side.
For many people it was quite astounding.
The photo reporters all worked for illustrated magazines.
They were the new media of their time.
The illustrated magazines were like TV before TV existed,
because they communicated important news and events
with words and pictures.
Walter Bosshard was a master of photojournalism.
Early on, he learned how to convey information via photos
and the written word.
And he reached an audience of millions.
But he had stiff competition.
This picture was taken by Robert Capa, Bosshard's friend and rival.
Capa staged his photos in a more dramatic, heroic way.
But it was Bosshard's photos of Mao that caused a sensation.
His works on China ultimately had the bigger impact.
Bosshard was also a little worn out
after around ten years spent in China.
He took a position at the "Neue Zürcher Zeitung".
He went more into written journalism.
Photography took a back seat.
Even in his writing, Walter Bosshard remained
a notable expert on China.
But he is best remembered as a photo reporter.
His works are important evidence
of the dramatic events in China before the Second World War.

Are You Going To Wake Up From Cryosleep? - The Medical Futurist - Duration: 4:39.
Cryonics has been around for more than sixty years, but recently it's been getting more
and more attention as billionaires from the Silicon Valley start to look at it as a real
possibility to cheat death.
The technology to put people into hibernation is not fictional.
Even today, we can freeze people with terminal diseases, and put them in a state of suspended
animation for an indefinite time until a cure is found…
One tiny problem though.
We're not sure if we can wake them up.
The use of cryogenic temperatures is already mainstream in healthcare.
Cryotherapy is used in an effort to relieve muscle pain, sprains and swelling after soft
tissue damage or surgery.
It's a huge advancement in healthcare, just ask any sportsmen.
But the big discovery in cryogenics still lies ahead.
It's cryo-sleep.
Cryosleep seems to be an overused trope and an easy short-cut for sci-fi films and literature.
But if we could make it work, it would really be a gamechanger — from saving terminally
ill patients, to solving one of the main problems of interstellar travels.
And there are many attempts to make it a reality.
An Atlanta based startup, Space Works Enterprises works with NASA to develop a stasis chamber.
The chamber lowers the body temperature to 32 Celsius and creates mild hypothermia.
And with multiple sessions, a chamber like that could be a huge advancement in space
travel.
But it's not suspended animation, it's only a deep sleep.
And in case we want to travel light years, we need to come up with something better.
For that, you need cryogenics.
Originally the idea was simple.
We cool down the bodies close to -200C and place them in a container of liquid nitrogen.
The first person to be cryopreserved was Dr. James Bedford in 1967.
He died of kidney cancer, but his will was to be put into a cryo-chamber, in hopes that
one day in the future, doctors will be able to bring him back.
But there is one big problem.
The trouble with cryo-sleep and cryo-preservation is that our cells are filled with water.
And when you freeze water, it expands and form crystals which irreversibly damage the
body.
The hope is that future scientists will be able to fix that and reanimate people without…
well, basically killing them.
Nevertheless, scientists of today are not sitting around either.
At Alcor, the largest cryonics organization in the world, they already use a process called
vitrification.
They replace the water in the cells with an antifreeze agent.
So when the tissues are cooled to cryogenic temperatures, instead of crystallizing into
ice, the chemicals clump together and become solid, molecularly similar to glass.
And this new glass form prevents the cells from bursting and, theoretically, holds them
in stasis forever.
It's still a completely unproven technology, and it's mostly based on hopes and dreams,
but for those who can afford it, it's at least a fighting chance.
And the number of people choosing to sign up is increasing every year.
Today there are nearly 300 cryogenically frozen people in the US and 50 in Russia.
There are even more than 30 pets at Alcor's chambers.
The irony is, unless we go under cryo-preservation, we won't live to see if it ever works.
Those who do go under… just maybe.
But as for now, as harsh as it sounds, cryo-sleep is mainly just science fiction.
