The Power of Music To Reduce Stress

The soothing power of music is well-established

It has a unique link to our emotions

so can be an extremely effective stress management tool.

Listening to music can have a tremendously relaxing effect

on our minds and bodies

especially slow, quiet classical music.

This type of music can have a beneficial effect on our physiological functions

slowing the pulse and heart rate

lowering blood pressure,

and decreasing the levels of stress hormones.

As music can absorb our attention

it acts as a distraction at the same time

it helps to explore emotions

This means it can be a great aid to meditation

helping to prevent the mind wandering.

Musical preference varies widely between individuals

so only you can decide what you like and what is suitable for each mood.

But even if you don't usually listen to classical music

it may be worth giving it a try

when selecting the most calming music.

When people are very stressed

there is a tendency to avoid actively listening to music

Perhaps it feels like a waste of time

not helping to achieve anything.

But as we know,

productivity increases when stress is reduced,

so this is another area where you can gain vast rewards

It just takes a small effort to begin with

To incorporate music into a busy life,

try playing CDs in the car,

or put the radio on when in the bath or shower.

Take portable music with you when walking the dog

or put the stereo on instead of the TV.

Singing (or shouting) along

can also be a great release of tension

and karaoke is very enjoyable

for some extroverts!

Calming music before bedtime

promotes peace and relaxation and helps to induce sleep.

Tearful Olivia Finds 17th Century Family Portraits | Who Do You Think You Are - Duration: 8:32.

So here we are in Scotland quite different I think you'll agree to

Calcutta so what I've learned now now I've spent some time in Calcutta taxi so

the only way to drive is like that so I've made contact with another

descendant of the slicers and I'm hoping he might have more information about

Harriet's grandmother and her family so we're on our way there now

come on thank you very much loved it yes it was amazing

no Livia come with me I've dug some stuff out for you which I think you will

enjoy thank you give me old cake there and do you know

how we're related because I well that's because I've dug up these documents it's

done me a good turn because I have to look at him all the game and um I think

I'm pretty sure this now but we're both five generations down from Harriet

Elizabeth okay because Harriet Elizabeth she changes the course of my

great-great-great grandmother Harriet's life brings her to England when her

father dies but she's sort of in the background yeah doing things that are

about I've got a portrait of her for you know I can tell you a lot about faded

but she's very much fair isn't she beautiful verbs on it and her fishy with

us it's so lovely to see her she had a very extraordinary life

Harriet Elizabeth lived most of her married life in Portugal where her

husband was serving in the army she left a series of Diaries and letters starting

in the late 18th century which were later typed up a bit I think you'll be

really interested in is when Harriet Elizabeth brings her two sons William

aged nine Harry father yep and his elder brother John

Henry and aged 11 to school in England she spent nine months trying to find the

right school and you get the sort of complete devotedness she had to and here

we are these letters are written to John her son okay you and William will come

to an age for school how to reconcile the act of separation and here is a day

she leaves and she has to say goodbye to them and return to Portugal to her

husband and their three younger siblings mrs. Gerard Oh

Oh mrs. you I do so I know her name that's Harriet grandmother's sister

Louisa she read oh because she left a small fortune for India Harry she left a

small fortune yeah oh I love that mrs. Gerardo was the only sister I might

venture to hope might take you home for the holidays the shays was at the door

to take us away oh that's the coach I could not resist the impulse we were

both crying in each other's homes this is awful I exclaimed look at my dear

boys that's the same age as my boys do but say you will be kind to them if you

knew the pang I feel at parting with them no you will not refuse some comfort

by the answer I so anxiously wished for you might have to carry on mrs. yarrow

seemed as much afflicted as I was she promised all that was kind and strictly

she kept her word yes well I didn't know that it's obviously it's very

distressing but it does come across how much she loved them sort of always

assumed that knew that people have told her put it all together turn up stick up

Elaine it's so nice to see her it's not nice that she but they've

obviously suffered the same pain as we didn't they didn't always keep their

mouths shut she's telling she's really expressing how she felt yeah at least

she had her sister there it's wonderful that she had her there

so one painful departure is very tough for you but I'm afraid you got another

one here she was also saying goodbye to her mother carried Elizabeth's mother

yeah who she didn't see very often because she lived in oporto and I marvel

lived in London she was an old lady she was 81 and she was say goodbye Kate

it's probably easiest if you actually read from here you will not have forgot

the distress of parting with my mother so still talking to John Williams

brother and how difficult it was to tear ourselves from her last embrace

oh she lamented that she would never see us more I think I see her sitting in her

wheelchair with a little black bonnet pulled over her eyes to hide her tears

but she was crying bitterly oh so this poor woman do know more about

her and what her name was indeed and I've got a portrait of our upstairs

would you like to see come away let's go open this just you never know how long

you might need to follow me all the ancestors up here and the one you're

interested in is her up there and we're going to get a proper look at her yes

she is and Judith Britton Wow we left her the old lady with the bonnet

to hide her tears mash ease when she's married I 1740s I think that's her and

that's our husband John Bristow MP in Norwich Norfolk coz my dad's family all

from Norfolk so Han Judith Bristow is my great-great-great

great-great-great grandmother Wow Anne and Judith she wasn't born British

she was naturalized and this is the document that explains her

naturalization very shortly after her marriage in this present Parliament

assembled and Judith Bristow wife of John Bristow Esquire and daughter of

Paul Roth Singh for the Sforza by Louisa his wife born at Paris in the kingdom of

France French yes 100% Oh so she's the Frenchwoman the god why was

she having to be you're wanting to be naturalized well she was a French

Huguenot she was Protestant she was a French Protestant yeah from the late

17th century tens of thousands of Hyuga knows fled oppression in Catholic France

and sought refuge in Britain fact the French Huguenots were the first refugees

who carried the name refugee yes yeah at the very beginning of this my mom said I

think that somebody was French once but I thought it was more recent I love the

idea that families remember things miss long back we then write it down that

anyone was Indian but they've said once how exciting Wow

it had it's been it's been an incredible journey of discovery

find out about the family that I never would have known about and I have loved

that feeling of feeling like her it students like we're honoring them I

thought there was nobody exotic in my family ever I was so wrong spread over

the world Portugal India France and sent Alina

then I had to look up on a map because I have no idea what it was yeah I had no

idea and it is it so fragile what should gone you don't to be

forgotten I suppose I've always considered myself not adventurous but

then I've never been tested like they were tested when they're up against it

they did what they had to do it's really humbling I'm still incredibly proud of

being from Norfolk that will never go but it's so exciting finding out this

stuff it gives you a little bit of confidence I've got to jump in little

braver now I'd say that letting down

you

PART II - Surprising My Wife With A Log Cabin! - Duration: 8:12.

let's see if I can pull this off today I'm trying to surprise my wife

we've had to do a bunch of stops navigate downtown one ways pay for

parking all this stuff we don't like and now we don't have to I'm happier going

out into the well there yes green means go

so we've reached the point now where we're about to head up into the hills

and go towards the camp spot and Taylor's nervous that we're not gonna

have cell phone service which normally I wouldn't care but it's the end of the

month and for my job so the last like two days

are the busiest things of the month for you yeah if we don't have cell phone

service at the camp spot then we'll come back down the mountain until we find it

that's a plan here we go

we still have a cellphone service and Taylor thinks we're gonna be okay

we're about one minute away

I think you got to go back maybe turn around its it says it's like up the hill

there so you got to turn around yeah just go go right down here

you're good away were like closest to it see if there's a trail or road or

something pull in pull in on this road right here

I know pull up there

okay stop what don't you like I know I'm just gonna go check it out okay so we

have a gate here okay I think we need to go a little bit farther I think we need

to go a little bit farther farther down the road but you understand that this is

private property right yeah this right here but there were signs I know okay

we'll figure it out I like this grassy area yeah that's nice well it's a little

bit farther than we Hollies come back and check out the grassy area pull up in

here here go up to that

so we're at another gate this gate looks very similar the last one yeah I'm going

to say okay let me just check it out

looks awesome so it's got a there's a padlock here underneath so Taylor has no

idea that I have the key I'm gonna pull the the lock down on the ground like

that so she can't see it and then I'm gonna open the gate just like that okay

now we got the gate open okay come on come on hurry before before the bad guys

get here

what are you thinking this is private property I know but we'll drive up this

way just a bit all right just pull up again pull up like 20 feet so I can shut

the gate we're looking for a chance okay just pull up like 20 feet okay she's

gave mad she knows her own private property so this locking the gate okay

let's go

it's such a cool spot and going that way

what is this is that a log cabin said a lot cabin oh my gosh where are we yeah

this is where we're staying for the next five days you thought you thought we'd

drive around private property what we are I'm private property so this is my

friend's house yeah then really yeah he said we could stay here is he here

no this is their like get away I told you five days I guess we'd better see if

the garage door opens yep haha

ah you hit that really well what do you mean you were just so like yeah we'll be

there yet and I was like can't for five days and no showers oh you're like we

shower enough it's fine yeah you're welcome

yeah I thought I'd surprise you with something fun because I know that you

don't enjoy campaign as much as I do and thought this would be something special

so Dan thank you so much for letting us stay up here at your cabin we're super

excited I didn't realize it's actually a log cabin and I grew up in the log house

and so this is super special for me too and this is kind of like our dream is to

have a log cabin that's in the spot like this this is amazing so thank you so

much for letting us stay here and let me surprise Taylor I was really surprised

DIY Last Minute Halloween Decorations: Packing Tape Ghost - Duration: 21:24.

Let's make some last minute DIY Halloween decorations, shall we

Yeah, hey trainwreck, how are you today I am the Lawrence trainwreck Moe

On this channel, we don't give you a puppy in a safe space we give you sarcasm and humor

Today we are making a DIY tape ghost now

I've seen the popularity of my last-minute body bag video that I did last year

You guys are eating that thing up and if you're a train wreck like me you waited till dark hundred to start decorating. So

What we're gonna do today is really simple. It's I mean, it's one of the easiest things that I've ever made

I made them a couple years ago

And they're actually pretty sturdy and just things in my garage got a little crazy over the summer and yeah

so after like three years the tape goes that I made a couple years ago are now

Terrible balls of sadness and disappointment. So what we're gonna do is I've got my beautiful model here the bunny

Entire package, that's your Italian mom moment for the baby by the way, so what we're gonna need

Yeah, you might think that a tape ghost requires just tape but you'd be wrong because you're gonna need plastic wrap first because we cannot

Tape this beautiful porcelain skin. Look at this. She it would hurt. Have you ever put tape on your skin? Don't do that

It's bad. It's like a bunch of band-aids. Yeah, don't do that. That's bad

okay, so

Stick spot. That's a whole lot of

inappropriate, I think that's a girl card so

All right kid. So what you're gonna do is you're gonna get person any person's gonna plug their arms

And yeah, you're probably gonna want to check it out because this is where it gets fun

And you can do this

Pretty much anywhere on the body. You can do it across the torso

You can do it across the legs. You can make individual legs. You can make individual arms

I've seen them where they make like full dresses and things which I'm going to go for it to today

No, don't

I'm just gonna go to the knees on this one and you just keep going

And this is where you have to hope that you didn't feed your kid too much sugar before you started doing this

No Starbucks

This is why I'm not using the TRX

Yeah spin around this would have been way smarter to do it like this

Step Oh return soon do it again

One two and three, okay

Yeah, we got this portion of the program here

Yep

Just like that in the nights

Have you seen the new ones?

They have the the side zip the slide cutter thing who came up with that that person needs a Nobel Prize. It's frigging quality

You're on top of that though. We still need to get zip locks and cereal bags

Now this is where the tape portion of the program comes in you chose now

Lift up Travis

Okay, so you're gonna take off the white part first, oh

no, teeth feel

Sad the truth

Okay

And you just start this anywhere and much like we did

That's gonna be so wonderful

Okay, she's getting dizzy so I'm gonna manually take care of it now

I'm gonna leave a little at the ends because I'm actually going to be attaching

strips of tape and cheesecloth to parts of us, too

So when you get one layer on you're gonna

Tape it off. Now. There are parts that I missed

This is where we get to do this portion. Now, you're gonna do three layers of tape. Those three layers is gonna get it

Really almost too like a hard plastic kind of consistency to the point where your child cannot breathe

I

Think that should be good

Okay, now we've got

Our victim I mean our model all taped up and ready to go

So now what we got to do is get her out of this thing

And you might be asking how are we gonna do that? Because she's pretty well taped in there. So I'm literally

I'm

Going to tape her. I'm gonna cut up all the way from top to bottom bottom to the top on the back

And this is a Porsche program you're like, please don't let me cut the clothing

Yeah, it's got a good show on it

You should be starting to be able to breathe any minute now

You wanna make sure that you're cutting all the layers and not the shirt

Because if your kids are anything like mine, they'll never let you live it down no even though

Okay

Okay, so we've got this thing that does not look like a human being and

But it's okay because what we're gonna do is we're gonna tape up the back now

So this is obviously the most frustrating the portion of the program here

because you literally have to sit and try to make ends meet and

When your gut one hand with tape and one hand

And you're just trying to get it together so

But this is also a chance to be able to reinforce some of the weaker spots

And this is where

You know

Don't be cheap with the tape, even though the shape of the teeth. The tape ain't cheap. Just knowing that three times fast

You're going to want to tape it on the inside and the outside

Just to make sure is you are putting this outside. Most likely they don't get it step on any of the plastic wrap

So you want to make sure that this thing is gonna hold up yeah, you're probably if you got weather like us

And I've learned the last couple of years

Yeah, the first two weeks around here in October is nothing but rain and wind so it really does me no good

To put anything out

Because it's just gonna fall it it's gonna fall apart it's going to get wet it's gonna be terrible

You know this 70 years always a good time of year to you know, make new friends last year I made the tape the

trash bags

Ghost, I made two more this year with you know with the with the bottles and trash can or trash bags

Really gonna put this together

And each other like you have three days out from hugging nothing says last minute, right

Almost done and then I'll show you how you can really make this look pretty creepy and cool

Inside of this last part

So you get space a ghostly form here, yeah, it's actually pretty good I think

Ain't obvious I guess. Yeah. Guess you know, it's a little wow that shit arms dude this sauce it kind of sounded

There's actually wait

So now let me show you how you can kind of dress this up to make it look even skewed here

Where's the cheese? Okay, so

next thing you're gonna do is

get some more packing tape and

You put this on the inside the outside. However, you want this to go but you're gonna get strips of it

And it can be long strips short strips, whatever you want, you know, it's up to you what's your thing

Now there are no mistakes you're just happy accidents. Thank you Bob Rose

And you just want to get enough to

Where you have a couple of all around and they're gonna fall around they're gonna do their thing

That's okay. Because in this kind of thing, you're literally basically making a skirt

You ripped make the skirt. It's up to you

But you make a skirt

if you want

And the worst part of this is when you don't have nails trying to get the edge of the tape

Like I said, there's I mean you really can't screw this part up, but you can't screw this whole thing up I mean

Like I said, there's no right or wrong actions, there's nothing that you can really mess up like this I

Mean this ghosts this who's to say that your ghost doesn't look right?

I mean seriously if they ever see me go like who are they to judge? Yeah

Yeah, let's your name's Peter Venkman, you know back up

Ah

Then it's the worst thing ever with the table you kidding. Okay, wait, oh

My god me and this day we're gonna have some work

But you just want to get this like a theory old kind of like thing

And that's exactly what this is going to do

now when you hang it up outside

You got a couple options

One of the options would be to light it and it would be super cool with like a green or blue

Yeah something I mean like

If you got like an evil thing going on with your with you yard yard horn or whatever you got going

You know get a red light get orange, you know something that kind of denotes the you know

Greg beyond that that eeriness that just makes people like uncomfortable. Yeah

okay, so now you're gonna take your cheese cloth and

Take some cheese and you're do

Yes, see that, that's what I'm saying right there you think you're cool and then the chief get the feet of my cheesecloth and

That right. There is the essence of trainwreck. Okay, I can relate to that

Okay, so we got a couple strips

So you're gonna get yeah, yeah, you're gonna get it just like this and

you're gonna find a strip of tape and

See if it's sticky enough and you're just literally gonna put it on there just like that

Because you want that

Raggedy blowing in the wind, you know

creepy dress that's like been buried for years eaten by moths worms or whatever else and

Time and moisture and all that now the good thing

It looks really clean and white right now, trust me, I understand that

This is one of those things that if you keep it

Together if you keep it safe

As it were this is one of those types of things that will only get cooler with age

Because it's gonna be outside

It's gonna be out by the road by the dirt and all that so it is going to get things like leaves

It is gonna get things

Stuck in it. It's going to be dirty. And like I said, it's just gonna get cooler as it gets older. So yeah

See this is my house guys. Okay, seriously, um

Anyway any more it's one of those. Could it be a squirrel? Yeah, it could be a squirrel

Could it be dead dropping by and saying height totally could be that too?

Kind of thing going down. Yeah, the hardest thing is trying to figure out how to hang it

Typically you can put

You know punch a hole through it get some fishing line. Hang it from a tree. That's always great

Hang it from wherever I've seen people who have it rigged where they put sticks and they have them

Over lights in their yard. So they're coming out of the ground like a ghost rising from the grave kind of thing

So it's up to you, but that's how it's done. And I would love to see yours

If you do a video like this tag me in it

Share it with me. I would love to be able to see your stuff if you like this video

Throw me a like throw me a comment because yeah, it's it's it's no sharing you scaring guys, okay?

Well, that's all I got for today train wreck. They said earlier. This is your first time here

Welcome aboard train wreck. Glad to have you here

Go ahead and hit that subscribe button. So you can see all the train wreck goodness on a regular basis and don't forget to

So you can see more of this kind of stuff on a

Fairly, well, it's been about six months, but it's okay

What we're trying here guys, we really are like that in the way

So my books platitudes of gratitude all your fault mister Christmas

And now the teachers ghosts are all available on Amazon go check them out because they're really good. And it's Halloween

You need a good spooky story the teachers ghosts. That's it

I'm speaking from personal experience, but there's a couple reviews that agree with that as well

If you have any questions comments concerns

I'd love to see them in the comments below and as always that's all we got for today trainwreck. So holla bard

Обзор беспроводных наушников Sony WF-SP700N - Duration: 4:14.

Hello!

At CES 2018, Sony surprised everyone mobile projectors,

TVs, smartphones, and also showed new

wireless headphones.

In them, the Japanese made a bet on sound quality and several

noise reduction modes.

Let's check how everyone This works in SP700N.

Headphones look stylish and bright.

What's more, the headset is available in four colors:

black, white, yellow and pink.

Quality materials, assembly, all at the highest level.

What I immediately noted, so This is the weight and size of the headphones.

But when doing sports it did not interfere, but rather

headset is clearly fixed in the ear.

This is partly due to the horn on silicone inserts.

And no matter how I tried to throw off headphones, I rather

head ached than at least one fell out of the ear.

Also included two bent clips

and four pairs of ear cushions.

They are different in size and they are enough for everyone

I could choose for myself the best option.

Regarding noise reduction in headphones, then there are as many of them

3 modes.

The first is a complete shutdown from the whole world around.

No car noise, no voices passers-by full immersion

to your favorite music.

In the second mode will be heard the voices of others.

In the third mode, noise reduction completely off

It will come in handy during jogging when to hear

passing cars.

Each earpiece is on the control button.

Button on the left earpiece modes change as well

turns on and off headset.

The button on the right can control playback

music where one tap pauses.

Double tap switches next track

Return previous song You can press the button three times.

As for the sound, here the manufacturer applies

two proprietary technologies Sony Extra Bass and Ambient Sound (Ambient

Sound).

I listened to different music styles and everything was lost

OK.

The tracks sounded volumetric, juicy and clean especially

it was felt in the tracks with vocals.

No distortion or artificial sound.

In different styles of music clearly traced all

frequency levels.

Headphone volume is enough but at the maximum speed

did not lock.

By the way, they are discharged I have after 3 hours of continuous

play on average volume.

And with noise suppression enabled, at full volume, stretched

2 hours.

Battery life can be extended up to 8 hours

if periodically recharge Headphones in this case.

The cover is light and compact, I liked the way

unusually it opens.

With full battery case enough to go twice

charge headphones.

But reveal all the functionality headsets can only

taking advantage of brand Sony app.

Moral Implications to Cremation vs. Burial - Duration: 2:54.

When somebody dies, can they be cremated, or do they have to be buried?

I'll give you my thoughts.

When a person dies, what's the right thing to do with the body?

Classically, Christians have buried the body and given the body a so-called "Christian

burial."

A lot of people are looking towards cremation nowadays as kind of an easier way out, more

economical, whatever.

And let me give you my point of view on this since the Bible does not weigh in one way

or another directly, okay?

When a body is consumed after it dies, it's a process called oxidation.

I'm chuckling because in either case you have oxidation.

You can bury the body, and it's slow oxidation, you can burn the body, and it's fast oxidation.

But it amounts to the same thing.

Over time, pretty much everything disappears, okay?

So, the question is, morally, does it matter?

And I don't think it really does.

But I want to toss in another thought.

There's a reason why traditionally, Christians have given a particular kind of burial.

And the reason they've been given that kind of burial is because they understand that

a human being is made of two different things: an immaterial self and a material self.

A soul and a body.

And this soul bears the image of God, not the body, and that soul was united with a

body for the lifetime, the natural lifetime, of that individual.

And when that person dies, they go away, but the body is still, in a certain sense, ennobled

by that which inhabited it.

And so by way of showing respect for the body, which will eventually be reunited in its more

natural state with the soul at the resurrection, Christians have had a ceremony and a burial

that they thought brought dignity to the notion that the soul and the body, the tent

so-to-speak, and the spiritual man would be united for a significant period of time.

And I think there's something to be said for that.

Maybe it's just aesthetic and not strictly-speaking moral.

But I used to think it doesn't matter what you do with the body.

Burn it or bury it.

Now, I'm thinking a little differently, and I haven't totally settled my mind up.

But I think it's clear to say that both options are morally acceptable, but with a so-called

Christian burial, we make a different kind of statement, and the statement itself may

be valuable.

Anyway, that's my point of view on this one for what it's worth.

Tree Pro Tree Tubes Review - Duration: 8:22.

so good morning everybody you're having a great day today just out here in the

ducts it's nice and chilly 30 degrees when I came out here and changed the

duct water this morning as you can see it's all frozen in a recent video that I

did about planting trees a lot of you had questions about what the deal is

with all of these quote unquote PVC pipes well they're not actually PVC

pipes they are tree tubes when you have baby trees one of the biggest risks you

have to deal with in the early years is contending with animals specifically

deer and rodents far as the deer go they will browse down and they will eat your

plants apart and they will just brutalize them they just love to eat

that stuff especially in the winter they lead all the buds so that the tree can't

grow that next year and they do a pretty nasty job they will also rub against

kind of intermediate aged trees and that also can really significantly damage

them it can rip up their bark it can cause a lot of problems the other

problem you'll have are rodents so specifically voles but also mice to a

certain extent love to you tunnel in and around the trees especially eat at the

base of the the trunk of a baby tree and eat around the bark

do something known as girding when they do that they can actually kill and dry

out a tree so that is another reason why you'd want these tree tubes so I put the

tree tubes on our more high-value trees so for example so if you look at these

black locust trees right they've got some grisly thorns so not all that

worried about a deer or something coming in

eating on those but as far as the chestnuts ago I feel like they are a

much more delicate tree and they're actually much more important to our

long-term plans so to do that I protect them with these tree tubes I opted for

the 72 inch tubes they're actually just a little bit taller than me actually a

lot of bit taller than me I'm a short guy the idea is that the tree grows

undisturbed in the tube for the first couple of years it starts to pop out of

the top and it's at a height that is much much harder for the deer to browse

and graze on you can actually see in this mulberry tree it's actually just

started to pop up over the tube I'm over the course of this year that was about

18 inches tall when I planted it a year ago and now it's already popping up over

the top of the tube I expect a lot more of these trees to do that next year

I only had a handful that did that this year I ordered tree tubes from a company

called Tree Pro it's specifically their Miracle Tube model I'll leave a link to

it if you want to find them for yourself I bought a whole bunch of them in bulk

so I got a pretty good discount and I keep them stash over in our barn see

look this is my secret stash it was financially advantageous for me to buy

more than I needed and stash them here in the barn for future use keeping guard

for mice, Pablo good thanks buddy I am NOT doing this as a commercial for them

they have not paid me they have not given me anything free so in full

disclosure I am just a guy trying to grow trees trying to teach other guys

and gals about how to grow trees and I found them to be a very helpful product

so these things are pretty well made they're just a solid piece of some sort

of plastic they are translucent so they actually let light in according to the

manufacturer they let in about 95% of the sunlight so they're not going to

create issues for you as far as light blocking goes you'll notice here and

it's got little holes to those holes are allowing them to vent because the other

thing that these tree tubes do is they create what's known as a

greenhouse effect they trap heat in it's really nice especially at this time of

year because I have a theory that it's extended the growing season maybe a

couple of weeks on the front end and a couple weeks on the back end as I try to

protect against Frost's here on our farm so especially here in northern Vermont

having that a little extra growing time is really useful they're very easy to

install all you have to do is you use like a post driver to put in the the

garden stake you can buy the garden sticks from the manufacturer or you can

just find your own they come already pre-installed with these zip ties you

know the zip ties are actually adjustable too so you can change the

size to make it easy to pull them off or you can tighten it this is actually a

two year old chestnut seedling we put it in last year right around this time it

was about this tall it's now growing up to here I'd actually hoped that by the

end of next year it's probably up to the about the height of the garden stick you

always want to be careful when you put the tube back on make sure you're not

pinching any branches I also find it's pretty important to push really hard to

make sure that they're firmly down in the ground in here the the tight

placement to the ground makes them much less attractive to voles and other

rodents the tube stay up pretty good this whole hill gets pretty pretty windy

especially in the winter and there were only a couple times that we had to put

tree tubes back up after a bad windstorm or a blizzard so it's a pretty low

maintenance there is one downside though that I discovered the other day while I

was actually checking on trees and replanting some trees so one of the

things I've noticed is especially in the spring and summer birds love to like sit

on the top of this and nest you can see like this whole tube is covered in bird

crap and I don't particularly care about that part of it but I have made a couple

of discoveries of what can happen with these tubes with birds one of the things

I noticed was this getting closer here see this feathers it is a rotten dead

bird carcass right here by my count I found seven dead birds trapped in these

tree tubes and even a couple of weeks ago I was actually walking through here

checking on some stuff and I heard a bird struggling to get out kind of

jumping up and down what I think happens is these small birds they're just like

little small songbirds they get they jump down to the bottom of the tube to

try to find food or whatever and they end up getting stuck because they don't

have enough space to flap their wings enough to fly out and so they get

trapped at the bottom of the tube so I guess the upside though would be that

this dead bird is now going to be a fertilizer for this little tree seedling

a little chestnut so uh guess the circle of life right so

it's not a deal breaker for me I mean I feel like the overall net benefit that

the trees are gonna do for the land outweighs the cost of a few birds but it

is something to be aware of and it is something to watch out for if you guys

want to learn more about how we built our 600 tree permaculture orchard with

about 6,000 feet of swales and berms be sure to watch this video over here or

you can learn more about our farm by watching this also feel free to hit that

Challenge: Wearing Only Handmade Outfits for a Week - Duration: 22:13.

This video is supported in part by Skillshare.

What's sewing on everyone?

So I'm currently still dressed in my pajamas for reasons that will become clear in just a second.

So basically, I want to make a video where for an entire week

I wear nothing but handmade clothes.

So what you see here on this rack is everything that I have either made from scratch or

significantly up-cycled over the last couple of years excluding some of the more...

"Interesting" make-thrift-buy items,

and there's a couple of things that I haven't kept because I didn't wear them, but this is all the handmade

stuff that I like and have kept. I was actually pretty impressed. There's like maybe 30 or 40 items here

so I'm going to wear handmade outfits for an entire week excluding socks, shoes, and

underwear because I just I haven't made enough of those for an entire week's worth of outfits.

Things would get pretty grimy pretty quickly. And I am allowed to repeat items in outfits

and one of the main reasons that I'm doing this

is to see what my handmade wardrobe is missing, what items I need to make more of, as well as what items

I'm choosing to wear again and again. Items I should make more copies of in different fabrics.

Hopefully I can keep this up for seven days. Let's get started!

So today is Saturday, it's a kind of mild temperature outside 20 degrees.

It's been raining on and off and the sun's been coming out now and again

so I probably want to find an outfit where I've got like a light shirt

but also a sweater or something in case it gets colder later on. Okay, so

here's like a little brief flip through of my

handmade stuff. You'll get to see more of this in the coming week,

but I think I'm gonna wear today is this top that I-

no I'm not because it needs washing!

Okay, I'll wear that another day. What I'm going to wear today is this cute t-shirt and I'm gonna find some pants...

I really haven't made that many pants. I think I'm gonna find that that's something I need to make more of.

These are probably my favorite comfy pair of pants that I have made from a Tilly and the Buttons pattern and

I'm going to layer with this sweater in case I get cold and you know what?

I think this outfit would look cute with a beanie as well so. Gonna throw that in there as well.

I didn't sew it, but I crocheted it so it definitely counts. Okay. Let's see what the outfit is gonna look like.

[Funky music]

I'm mostly just working today answering some emails,

editing some videos, and this is a very comfy outfit-

This is a very comfy outfit to do that in.

These lounge pants are very good for lounging in. I also have not bothered with

makeup 'cause I'm not going out anywhere.

But if I do go out later

we'll do some matching makeup to my hand-made outfit and show you all. By the way

in case you couldn't see it clearly before this is what it says on the front of my shirt.

Yeah, I added this with fabric transfers. I don't know why but it works.

Hello. We're going out for dinner.

Mum: Why does it every trip out with you become a filming opportunity?

Annika: ...'Cause I'm just brilliant and creative!

Mum: Gets it from me.

Both: Laugh

Okay good morning good morning.

We have to pick an outfit. We're going to the markets today and it's going to be about 21 degrees

so we have to pick something warm and

comfy. Okay 21 is probably warm if you live in like England or something

but that's kind of cold for Australia and it's

15 to 21. 21 is the maximum so it probably won't even get up to that.

So I'm probably gonna wear something with tights.

Okay, so I have realized

that I am gonna be wearing this a lot because it's the only warm thing that I have actually made ever.

Yes, the only sweater top that I've ever made so I'm gonna wear that layered over

this is one of my favorite dresses that I've made which is from one of my tutorials.

I'm gonna wear this and finally I'm gonna wear this handmade beret

as well and I'm gonna wear some tights under the dress, too. All right, let's see how that looks.

[Funky music]

I decided that I'm gonna wear my fanny pack too 'cause that just seems like a useful thing to have at a market.

It's easy to access money and

because it's a food markets I'm going to bring my "hand"bag with me because it's just a big good-sized

canvas bag.

We're off to the markets woohoo! And I forgot to mention earlier

I actually handmade these earrings too.

I thought they were appropriate for food markets because they're little forks.

Oh my gosh- wah!

Are you the sweetest thing? Ah, I'm so happy right now!

Oh, you're gorgeous, yes you are.

What a successful trip.

Annika bought so much fabric didn't she Ella? She bought a whole bag of fabric. Oh no. Ohhhh no.

Morning everyone so um, it is Monday and it is raining a lot today, but it's kind of warm?

So I'm like, I don't know what I'm gonna wear. I don't- I haven't made anything that's waterproof.

So, let's see what I can pick out today to wear. I actually realized that I have a cardigan or two in here

so I'm not gonna have to wear the pink jumper every single day.

Although it is pretty cute, but that's gonna get a bit boring after a while.

Okay, so let's choose something to wear. Remember this make-thrift-buy?

It was like make-thrift-buy 35 or something?

I'm gonna wear this t-shirt today. It's actually not too cropped. So my belly's not gonna be freezing. Yay!

I really need to make myself some non crop tops. What else am I going to wear?

[Funky music]

I'm not having a great day.

I'm soooo tired, but

you know what? These pants are great for layin around in. Lounge pants! I'm on the lounge. Mm-hmm. Oh, that wore me out.

Hello everyone, today it is Tuesday, and I just attempted to dye my hair purple, but I didn't have enough dye

so I diluted it a lot with conditioner and now it's very silver purple. I'm not sure if it's gonna work.

Anyway, I'm gonna choose a hand-made outfit.

It is...

The forecast said it'd be raining, but it is very warm and sunny. It's very nice.

So I think I'm gonna wear like a top like this. I upcycled this in the challenge I did

with April a couple of- last year? Year before that? And it would look pretty nice with this skirt.

So I'm gonna go ahead and throw that outfit on. I'll be back in a sec. Okay, sad news: the top is good

But this skirt hella doesn't fit since I changed weight. It looks alright. I tried to belt it up

but then at the back it's like all bunches up at the back there, which doesn't look awesome, so

I'm gonna change. I'll try and find something else that goes with this top.

[Funky music]

And just in case I get cold I'm taking with me this cardigan that I up-cycled for an art show a

year ago. It says the future is accessible on the back.

Quote made popular by Annie Segarra who is a disability youtuber on YouTube -

obviously. Well, okay my hair dye didn't work that well,

but my outfit's very cute, so I'm gonna go out and

sit in the sun somewhere because I need some sunlight.

Vitamin D. And here's what it looks like with the cardigan on. Cute cute cute outfit I think and-

sparkly shoes! Sparkly shoes!

Well, hello, it is Wednesday and it's time for another

morning of trying to figure out what to wear.

So let's try find something. Now, it's annoying because I've made lots of dresses but

It's only 23 degrees. It's not super warm.

I want to keep my shoulders covered but a lot of the dresses I've made do not have sleeves.

I'm definitely going to have to make more pants and more skirts and more dresses with sleeves.

That's something I am noticing. Ok.

I decided on a off-shoulder crop top, a white one that I made. I made a tutorial for this recently,

it's make-thrift-buy 65, and this floral pinafore, which I made for a make-thrift-buy like some years ago

And for some reason I have not worn this enough like at all.

So this is actually a pretty cute combo I think. And with the beret too - I like it.

And then to go full granny-chic because

it is forecast to rain today, I've got this floral cardigan that I can put over the top

so basically it looks like a granny cardigan over your grandma's couch.

[Funky music]

Annika: We are so cute!

Luci: Hey guys, welcome to Luci's vlogs,

the behind the scenes expose of Annika's real studio.

Who does she have in here making the clothes for her?!

[Annika laughs off-screen]

Hello everyone, it's Thursday and

I'm really grumpy today. I was in pain all last night and it's just put me in a real angry state

I've been listening to Nirvana and Rage Against the Machine all morning.

So I think today I feel like more of a

neutral-toned outfit, not something super pink and dolly-like, like yesterday.

I think I'm gonna put on something with black and

grey, I'm thinking maybe this.

This black lace singlet top layered over a shirt like this or another t-shirt. It'll be good. It'll be very...

angsty.

[Funky music]

I like this little sneaky boob alien kind of like poking out from underneath there. Like did I see an alien? Okay.

Here's my final

outfit for today, it's quite different from every other day's outfit, but it suits my mood, man.

I've got greasy-ass hair today, but I also decided that just goes with the aesthetic. I don't have to shower.

[Heavy metal music]

At uni.

Luci: Uni?

Annika: You-knee! I'm going to class now. Bye.

Luci: Byeee.

[Funky music]

I'm not grumpy anymore because I had a really good class.

Gooood morning! It is Friday, which means it is the last day of the challenge!

So initially

I thought this challenge was gonna be hard

But now I'm actually bummed about the things that I didn't get to wear including banana dress,

gingham dress made from bed sheets, popsicle dress, these overalls.

Today's gonna be a warm 27 degrees. It's hot. It's sunny.

I'm also on a bunch of extra medicines today because I'm having my wisdom teeth taken out tomorrow.

Yay! If this video is being uploaded the surgery went well.

Anyway, I want to wear something light, comfortable, colorful, and cute so -

Let's get the outfit!

[Singing] Da da da daaa! Remember this t-shirt from day one?

I washed it and I'm going to pair it with these shorts which we have already seen with an outfit.

But they're very comfortable and they have pockets so.

[Funky music]

Today I have done a lot of...

Hashtag laying but slaying. I'm not feeling great from the medicines, but that's okay,

and I feel like because I'm vlogging my week

I have to be busy and always doing things every day so that it's interesting -

but actually that's just my anxiety.

Anyway, my outfit's very cute, and I look very cute and I'm just gonna lay here and

then I'm gonna have some dinner and then I'm going to watch a movie

and that's all I'm gonna do tonight. And that's okay.

Here's my outfit. It's very comfy for laying around in. [Laughs]

Looking back at the items I chose to wear for the week

I have realized that I mostly wear things that either have no pattern on the fabric

or just a subtle pattern on them, like these

plaid pants. Now,

this is at odds with most of the things in my handmade wardrobe,

which are covered in patterns and novelty prints.

This suggests to me that I should be making more things out of plain fabrics

or at least using more subtle prints that go really well with a lot of other colors.

So no more making things out of bright obnoxious statement fabrics,

at least not as much because I won't wear them.

I also chose to wear this pink sweater two out of the seven days

but I would have worn it more if I wasn't worried about it getting boring.

I love this sweater. It's really easy to layer

so I'll probably make more sweaters using this pattern, which is a self drafted pattern.

I also think that I need to make more outerwear in general.

I'm gonna get a head start now for winter, which is a whole eight months away for us here in Australia

so I've got plenty of time to work on that.

I also think I should make more pants with this pattern (A Tilly and the Buttons pattern). Again,

I wore these pants two out of seven of the days and I would have worn them a lot more if I'd have them in

other prints. The subtle tartan print on these pants goes with a lot of different outfits

so I need to make another pair or two or three using fabrics that are similarly versatile.

Also, I rediscovered how cute these shorts are!

I made a pattern for these shorts almost two years ago

And I'm totally gonna use it to make more of these shorts

maybe with a pastel pink or a subtle plaid or gingham fabric.

Because they're super comfortable and most importantly - they have pockets!

I also noted that I mostly chose to wear clothes that were loose-fitting

and comfortable so I should continue making things that are

loose-fitting. I shouldn't be adding any tight-fitting things to my handmade wardrobe.

Oh and I need some more tops. As much as I love crop tops, I need to focus on making some tops that are

not cropped. I really need to make myself some non crop tops. Oh also more fanny packs!

I definitely need to make fanny packs in colors other than pink.

This one only goes with a few different colors of outfits

But I want to make a wider range in different colors

because they're really handy and they also I just really like how they look

So this challenge has allowed me to figure out what clothes

I actually like and wear the most which has been really enlightening

because now I know what I should focus on actually making.

I always thought that I was someone who really loved

novelty prints and loved wearing novelty prints

but now that I know what I know, I should stay away from the whole novelty fabric

print section at the fabric store or

the thrift shop because while I am drawn to them at fabric stores, in practice

I actually don't wear them that much-

always learning things about myself!

And now a message from our sponsors. In the spirit of learning something

new, learning more about yourself and what you can do,

I have a sponsor to bring you today who aims to do just that -

which is to teach you a new skill. Whether your passion

is in fashion and design or something totally different like animation, film production, music, illustration,

crochet, photography, social media, running your own business,

Skillshare has the resources to teach you how to do it. So here's a fun fact about me:

I have learned pretty much everything that I know about sewing, about fashion, about design from the internet.

I have never taken a course or a class.

I am totally self-taught. What I like about Skillshare is that it takes the work out of searching for

different quality tutorials

online and instead it brings all the resources that you need to learn a skill into the one place on its website and that website

is called Skillshare! What I really like about Skillshare is that it is not

expensive. A premium membership is just under $10 a month

which in most countries is literally thousands of times less than enrolling in a college course to learn essentially the same skills.

It's also flexible. You can do it in your own time at your own pace, which is another great thing about it.

They even have some free classes on there too! I believe strongly in affordable accessible quality

education and that is what Skillshare believes in too.

Education is a really empowering thing and Skillshare can give you the skills and tools that you need to unlock your

opportunities and do the kind of work that you want to do. So Skillshare has given me a link so that the first

500 people who use it will get not one but two free months of premium membership.

So that gives you access to all of the videos on Skillshare

for free for two months so you can try out Skillshare

totally risk-free. You can cancel at any time for two whole months

All you got to do is click the link in the description box below to get started.

Thank you so much to Skillshare for supporting this video and thank you so much to all of you for supporting the companies that support

this channel so that I can continue to bring the internet free fun and mostly educational content.

I'll see you all in my next video, which I promise will be the make thrift try challenge!

Thank you to everyone who entered for being really patient with me while I got that video up and running.

I am very excited to show you all of the super cool makes that this community has made. That's it for me.

I hope you enjoyed this video and I hope you're all having a really good day.

Bye! Thank you to all of my supporters on patreon and Ko-fi for making this video possible.
