"My favourite places in Lisbon" by Alice Trewinnard – EF Guest Vlog - Duration: 6:15.
Hi everybody. My name is Alice.
I'm a content creator and youtuber from Lisbon, Portugal.
Today, I'll be guest vlogging for EF.
I was born and raised in Lisbon. I've lived here all my life.
In fact, I think this is the most beautiful city in the entire world. Obviously!
Today, I'm going to show you guys around the city and share some of my favourite spots with you.
Let's go!
Right now, we're at Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara,
which is one of the best and most popular viewpoints in Lisbon.
From where I stand, you can see a huge part of the city, including a castle on the top of the hill.
That castle is called Castelo São Jorge, which means St. George's Castle.
You can actually go up there and, if you do, you will have another amazing view over Lisbon.
Write that down because it's a must-go.
From here, you can also see the Tagus River, which is also amazing.
The EF school in Lisbon is near this area, so you can actually walk from the school to this viewpoint.
This is a great place.
It's free to come here with your friends and colleagues for a drink at the end of the day,
to have a quick lunch, or even just to take some pictures.
One of the best things that this city has is its light, obviously.
Now, since we're so close to downtown, we're going to walk there. Follow me!
We are downtown in "Baixa-Chiado" right now. This is probably my favourite part of the city.
This is always a very busy area with a lot of tourists visiting because it's a very historical place.
Also, if you like outdoor shopping, we have plenty of shops here and amazing restaurants and cafés as well.
I'm a little bit hungry now, so we're going to take a break
and I'm going to show you guys one of the best places for brunch in Lisbon. Follow me!
Now that we're done, I'm going to show you one of the best features this city has, which is the river.
Here we are by the Tagus River and, as you can see, it has the most amazing view,
and it's a beautiful, sunny day, which helps.
This area right here is called "Belém". It's a wonderful place for you to come to,
especially during the weekend and on sunny days like today.
It's the perfect place for you to have a walk, a jog, a work out or,
at the end of the day, you can come here for a drink.
You can find many restaurants, cafés and even museums, like this one.
It's the perfect place to just hang out.
Over there, you can see the most iconic bridge in Lisbon.
It's called Ponte 25 de Abril, which means 25th of April Bridge.
If you cross it, you'll find amazing beaches just 20 minutes away by car from Lisbon.
During the summer, it's the best program.
Also, if you go up that statue over there, which is called Christ the King,
you'll observe the most amazing view over Lisbon, so it's also a must-go.
Lastly, to finish off this video, it's the end of the day, and that means sunset time.
This place is also by the river and it's called "Ribeira das Naus".
It's the most amazing place to have a drink at the end of the day
and observe the most beautiful sunset over Lisbon.
So, that's exactly what we're going to do: have a drink and watch the sunset!
I really hope you liked this video.
Thank you so much, EF, for having me and I hope to see you guys around Lisbon!

3D Printed Ryzen Mini ITX Gaming PC (Avengers Theme) - Duration: 3:49.
Hi guys, In this video I'll be showing the design and build process of a 3D printed Mini
ITX case, themed with the Avengers logo - and then building a gaming pc in it - using the
Ryzen 5 2400G.
This is inspired by a video from a guy called cbutters.
He built a Mini ITX case for a very similar system.
I really liked the look so I started by duplicating his models in TinkerCAD.
Links to his video and all models can be found in the description.
TinkerCAD is really intuitive - it didn't take long to heighten the case slightly and
add the Avengers logo.
After modifying the designs and doing a little research on 3D printers, I took the plunge
and purchased an Anycubic i3 Mega.
It has a solid metal build and a heated print bed, the size of which is perfect for this
project.
I printed a number of drafts and made incremental changes each time to deal with any issues.
I also tried a number of different methods of attaching the the top part of the case
to the lower part.
Ultimately I settled on screw holes as the most reliable option.
The vertical parts of the print came out great - I really like the textured look of the layers.
The top of the case however, was the bottom layer of the print and whatever I tried in
terms of print settings, I couldn't achieve a finish I liked.
I tried sanding and spray painting but it didn't turn out much better - plus I really
liked the idea of keeping it unpainted.
In the end, I decided to try printing it without any bottom layers.
This gave me an outside layer using only infill - and a much more interesting textured finish.
Looks almost like a dark digital camo effect.
For the logo I used translucent red PLA filament.
I was hoping for a nice glassy look, but the result was more cloudy and occluded.
I tried a few prints with different slicer settings but it didn't make much difference.
After a sand and polish however, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.
Build wise, I went for an Asrock Fatal1ty AB350 Gaming ITX board, The Ryzen 5 2400G,
A Crucial P1 500GB NVMe M.2 SSD and 16 GB of 3200 MHz Corsair Vengeance RAM.
I'm also using a One Hundred and Sixty Watt Pico Power Supply, an external power brick,
and a power button.
Links to everything I purchased can be found in the description.
So why did I go for these components?
The Ryzen 5 2400G is currently the best APU on the market in terms of graphics performance.
It doesn't have the performance of a decent discreet graphics card, but at only 65 watts
TDP, it opens up the possibility of a small low power pc that's capable of some light
1080p gaming.
I went for an NVMe drive due to better performance than SATA in most cases while not costing
a whole lot more (for this model at least), and chose fast 3200 MHz RAM because the Ryzen
architecture is particularly sensitive to RAM speeds and I wanted to make sure it had
decent headroom for gaming.
All I required in terms of the motherboard was an M.2 Slot - I wasn't too concerned about
the chipset for this build.
Finally, I threw in some red LED strips in an attempt to give the logo some glow.
...and here's the result.
After setting everything up and installing a few games I was able to achieve ballpark
60 fps at 1080p in Rocket League, Overwatch and Doom using mostly low settings.
I had to drop the resolution to 720p to get similar results from Destiny 2 and Rise of
the Tomb Raider.
The temperature hovered at around 60 degrees Celcius... with the top of the case removed.
With the case fully assembled the temperature would steadily climb to 95 degrees C!
Clearly I need to work on the thermals for this design...
And so concludes our adventure guys, If you enjoyed this video please give it a thumbs
up and subscribe to our channel!
Also, let me know if you'd be interested in seeing any follow up videos, I have a couple
of ideas...
Thanks for watching, catch you in the next one.

The difficulties of being a female orchestra conductor - Duration: 1:57.
-A guest of the Lausanne Chamber Orchestra since 2017,
Simone Young is a star
in the very masculine world of orchestra conducting.
Having trained as a pianist and composer in Sydney,
this career path wasn't always her ambition.
-Becoming a conductor
is rather strange.
You can study music,
but it's not a choice that everyone can make.
Conductors are musicians whose instrument is the orchestra.
-Great conductors need to have knowledge of the music and be able to innovate,
while having a natural authority that depends more on skill than gender.
-I don't see any difference.
There's no natural reason
which would prevent a woman
from conducting an orchestra.
They have exactly the same talent as men.
-And yet just 4% of conductors are female.
Silvina Peruglia left her country to learn the craft of conducting,
which is not open to women in Argentina.
-I don't do things differently
because I am a woman.
You need a thorough knowledge of music.
Then it's all about the way you act.
-This excellence is also important to Simone Young,
guided by the emotions that the music evokes.
-In music, you can find peace, passion and love.
There is space for all kinds of emotions.
-As a conductor of major global orchestras, Simone Young has paved the way.

An alternative photo book for Ethiopia - Duration: 2:06.
The book is here.
Genet Bekele is one of the people who provided photos.
The editors worked for a long time.
Now, Wongel Abebe and Philipp Schütz are quite proud.
I'm delighted, it's a great moment,
when I give the book to the people who are in it.
Their children see it.
62-year-old Bekele appears in a photo from her youth.
From a party, with cola.
My father has never seen this picture.
I wasn't allowed to go out, so I had to hide it.
The history books often show the negative side,
as do the international articles about Ethiopia.
In the 1980s it was the famine, in the mid-1970s the change of power.
But the people tell us stories alongside these events,
from their lives, nice stories.
Carefree people, despite their difficult lives in Ethiopia.
Schütz drove through Ethiopia's capital in an old VW Beetle
collecting stories.
Today, Addis Ababa is a modern city.
A different picture to the retrospective. But there are some parallels.
Both then and now, people have always tried
to enjoy life.
They have the same hopes, dreams, the same lives.
The photographer and designer Schütz had the idea for "Vintage Addis Ababa".
The website came first, then the book.
He's now hoping for lots of readers.
Because it shows pictures that they've never seen before.
Because it shows positive pictures.
And because there aren't that many nice photo books about Ethiopia.
There are plans for a preview in Switzerland in the spring.
But first an exhibition will be making a tour of schools in Ethiopia.
So that everyone can see what things used to be like.

Hi, I'm Chris Jordan
and in the video today, we're going to come back to the BULATS gapped sentence question
that focuses mainly on vocabulary.
In fact, in the next TWO videos, we're going to be looking at a very key vocabulary concept.
In the previous vocabulary question videos, the questions we looked were like this.
In particular, we focused on questions where getting the right answer
depends on paying careful attention to a preposition or similar word.
In this question, only 'out' has the right meaning –
so, the other answers would be considered incorrect English.
In the next two videos though,
we're going to look at a very different type of question in this section of the exam.
In this example here,
we can use the same test technique we used in the previous videos.
First, read the sentence and try to work out what the sentence seems to mean.
What kind of word is missing? Well, here, it's a verb.
Does the missing word seem to have a strong relationship with any other word in the sentence?
Finding this connection can be really important for working out what the correct answer is.
Here, we should notice the word 'price' – which is the grammatical subject of the sentence –
seems to have a big influence on the gap.
Based on our experience of reading and listening to English,
and perhaps we've seen very similar sentences with these words,
we might even be able to think of a possible answer before we look at the options.
So, 'the price X local sales tax', is there a word that comes to mind?
The next thing to do is to look at the options.
Is the word you thought of in the list?
If not, does one of the words seem familiar in this situation?
If you're not sure, start with A.
'the price keeps local sales tax?
That doesn't sound right, does it?
'the price contains local sales tax'?
That's better in terms of meaning,
but we don't really say 'the price contains' in English.
Let's try C: 'the price includes local sales tax'?
Well the meaning is right, and 'the price includes' is a natural way to express this idea in English.
So, it's looking good,
but we should still check D to be sure.
'the price involves' … that's not how we would express this idea in English.
And this means C 'the price includes local sales tax'
is the BEST answer.
This might seem a little different to the examples we looked at in the previous videos where,
because of the 'grammar words'
– especially the prepositions we looked at like 'by', 'with', 'to' or 'for' –
only one answer is good, and the others are not possible.
So, how do we know what the 'best' answer is, if the grammar can't help us?
Let's take a moment to look at this in a little more detail.
To really understand how to work out the best answer for these questions,
we need to understand something called 'collocation'.
An easier way to explain collocation is to think of words having friends.
Some words have close friends and they like to be together
- we often see them working together to make certain meanings.
These are collocations.
However, other words are not friends and they don't like to be together.
Let's look at a very simple example.
For the word 'rain', two very close 'friends' or 'collocations' are 'heavy' and 'light'.
So, we have heavy and light rain.
In other languages though
the words that are 'friends' for 'rain' may be quite different, such as in Mandarin Chinese
where the words for 'big' and 'small' are friends for 'rain',
but the words for 'heavy' and 'light' are not.
So, you can have 'big rain and small rain'
- something that would not be considered natural in English.
In fact, it would sound quite 'weird'.
To be good at a language, we need to know what words mean AND how they're used with other words.
And in this question,
we're asked to show our understanding of how English normally expresses this idea of 'a lot of rain'.
Someone with an A2 level of English
is likely to have seen these friends together enough to know that 'heavy' is by far the best friend for rain.
We can say they're 'close collocations', which is basically the grammatical way of saying
they're best friends - or 'BFFs'.
So, in this case, the BEST answer is B.
Let's just finish with two more quick examples.
This is a lower-level question
and if we read it quickly, we can see that it's about making a time for the sports event.
So, which of these words is commonly used with 'date' for this meaning.
Well the common friend you've probably seen several times is 'set a date'.
And finally, we can work out from reading this sentence
that the company was able to 'get the funding for the factory'.
Which word is often used with 'funding' with this meaning?
Now, in English you can ' get funding' but in more formal English,
a common friend for 'funding' is 'secure'
so 'secure funding for something.'
To sum up what we've talked about so far, to work out the BEST answer in the BULATS vocabulary question,
you often need to find the 'best friend'
or 'close collocation' of the word with a special connection to the gap.
This is because in real life,
part of understanding a language is knowing which words we should use together.
We hope this video has been useful
and that you feel you understand collocation and this kind word relationship a little better.
Remember, if you are looking for help with BULATS or your Workplace English in general,
do check out our other videos in this series. Thank you for watching and good luck.
