Waching daily Jan 29 2019

Hey, guys!

It's Artie O'Daly.

Or Artie O'Daddy.

Or Daddy Artie.

Or Daddy O'Daddy.

I don't know.

[laughs] Hi.

It's good to see you all again, even though I can't see you, but it's just nice to

know that you're out there - worldwide!

Uhh…

I've got more questions for another Q&A.

I will try not to be 17 minutes this time.

And let me ask you right now, truly: Would you prefer I split up these questions into, like,

smaller videos so it's more digestible, or would you rather me just talk and it be

as long as it is?

'Cause I— I— I'm torn, basically, and I would love your input.

'Cause I don't wanna go too long.

I already am.

Look, I said the same thing three times.

And my computer turned off.

Umm…

But then also these are ramblers and I kinda love it because… quick side story before I get

to the questions.

Yes, I'm already going off topic.

Uh…

I had a friend named Addison.

This was when I was in New York, uh, like, twenty years ago.

I had first gone there to go to school.

And email was new.

So I had an email address and he was sick at the time, so he had all this time in the world

and we would send emails to each other.

But the one rule was you start with one sentence or a question or topic or whatever,

and then just go.

Stream of consciousness.

Write as long as you want.

Wherever it leads.

And we would call them "ramblers".

So if he was, like, bored or something or I was lonely, it'd be like,

"Hey, send me a rambler!

I could use a rambler."

And they would be so long and then he unfortunately passed away.

This was many years ago.

He died of cancer.

Um…

And I printed out all of our emails and bound them in, like, this thick ass book of our ramblers.

So now when you guys say, like, talk about me rambling, I'm like,

"It's ramblers again!"

And it kinda makes me happy, so…

I think I should start calling these "ramblers".

Anyway, let me get right to the questions 'cause there are quite a few and they start

with the "Bad Boy".

Uh…

Zachary Dunning wants to know, "What can you say about the next 'Bad Boy'?"

I can say I can't wait to shoot it.

Umm… it's almost done.

This script for episode six has been quite a struggle because I'd already established,

obviously, the Mack and Scott dynamic and now it has to be Scott and somebody new - BJ

- so, it's so hard as a writer to, like, adjust what the new character dynamic is and,

"Oh, what can I throw away and what is too similar to what it was before but how can

I maintain that essence so it's still, like, what people want?"

It's been hard.

And it's also hard for me to find, like, the way through this episode.

I think I cracked it, though.

Just the other day.

So, I'm gonna finish writing it,

hopefully tonight actually,

And then plan to shoot it mid-February.

And the next questions is actually, "When would the next 'Bad Boy' come out?"

That's from Ghost Biologist.

I'm gonna say February.

I'm gonna say end of February to give myself time because January is a bumpy month, guys.

The accident and all that.

So I'm just like…

I don't wanna say it's gonna be a certain date and then I don't make it and then you're like,

[high-pitched voice] "Where's the 'Bad Boy'?"

So… [laughs] That's all you guys' voices.

"Where's the 'Bad Boy'?"

I don't know.

I'm dumb.

Uh...

Ghost Biologist also asks, "Do you have a schedule for when each one would come out?"

I don't.

The plan was once a month.

Um...

I missed this month, but I do have a goal.

I really wanna give five out by my birthday.

And my birthday is May 24th.

That's four months away.

So that'd mean even more than one a month.

If I can finagle the money -- is that the word?

-- um, and just get it together...

I don't know.

I work better with goals and deadlines, so, uh... we'll see.

The Ocean's Wonders asks, "Tell us about the apartment that acts as Scott's house.

Whose is it?

How did you get it?

You said it was free.

What challenges, if any, in filming there?"

That was Tony's apartment that he shared with two other guys.

It was one bedroom and it was three straight guys.

You can draw your conclusions.

I'll tell you actually.

It wasn't clean.

Ever.

Uh...

I mean, oh my god, the stories I could tell you.

Like, the... the bathroom had no toilet paper.

There were no utensils.

It smelled like marijuana.

[sighs] There were fruit flies, which someone pointed out in the "Probation" episode you

can actually see on one of the wine glasses.

So, Tony's girlfriend and I would try to, like, clean that apartment as much as we could

right before the shoot, uh, so it looked like a nice gay man's apartment.

Um...

So that was the challenge, but it was pretty cool.

Like, the windows, liked, help light a lot, um...

But Jaison Blackwater, our D.P., is phenomenal.

Makes the show look so good.

Um, so even without that it would-- the light-- the windows-- it would look good, point is.

Um...

Anyway, so that's how we got it.

But he moved.

He moved out and so we knew he was moving out.

So at the end of the "Gilmore Girls" episode, when Vanessa says, "Move", we were gonna make

the next episode, I'm in a new apartment because she told me I had to-- had to leave.

But also because Tony was moving.

But now I'll be in a new place anyway because Tony's gone, so...

Uhh... [laughs] I make sounds between questions!

Xsari wants to know, "Would you have a Bad Girl in a 'Bad Boy' episode?"

Sure!

Why not?

Uh...

"What about Vanessa Marano?"

The Ocean's Wonders wants to know.

"Did you know her?

Did she enjoy the series and offer to?

Was she just a hire?"

I didn't hire her.

She was a friend because she and I did a play a year ago - the same play that Tony was an

understudy for - and we would be backstage and I was a huge "Gilmore Girls" fan so I

would ask her so many questions.

Guys, I have so much dirt about her time on "Gilmore Girls".

I won't tell you, but!

She will!

Oh my god, she would answer any question I had.

It was amazing.

Um...

So she'd tell me all these stories and she really was just this little girl that had

this awful fan reaction.

So I wrote a "Bad Boy" without even asking her if she would do it and then I reached

out and said, "Hey, is there any chance you would be in my... my... short film series?"

Without even seeing the script, she said, "Absolutely."

And then she nailed it.

She's just the best.

I love her so much, so...

She had not seen the show, but, um, she'd heard about it from her friend and, so...

she did it as a favor.

Uh...

Aldo...

I hope I read this right.

Aldo Man-- Man-- Manulana Akbar?

I'm so sorry if I said that wrong.

"If you had any chance, you should collaborate with BJ Gruber."

I did not know who he was.

I Googled him.

He's super hot.

I would definitely like to work with him.

I-- Ivarenski1 says, "When-- Or What are-- When are we gonna get a video on the full

story about Tony getting out of 'Bad Boy'?"

There's not gonna be a full video about that.

My boyfriend was like, "Tell the whole story."

My best friend was like, "Don't go negative."

And she actually works in, like, social media and those sorts of things, so I trust her.

Here's the thing, guys: It wasn't good because he dropped out 'cause he wasn't comfortable

with how gay it was getting and I took that personally.

You know?

That's not good.

And it-- And it bothered him that I-- He thought he should have creative control and I thought

he shouldn't, so... it di-- it ended, like, in an argument.

No one wants to hear about that.

'Cause the point is we had a good time making it.

And we did have good chemistry.

And that's what should be focused on.

And I don't want you to watch those four episodes and have negative thoughts now,

you know what I mean?

So...

It is what it is.

He-- He-- Hopefully he will move on and make his own stuff that's more tailored to who

he is and his sensibilities.

And hopefully "Bad Boy" can grow and...

You know what?

I think "Bad Boy" can even be more the show I want it to be 'cause I'm not worried about

him being in something that he's not comfortable with, so... it might be better for everybody.

Errr.

Here's another weird sound.

Oh my god, seven minutes.

Eight minutes almost!

It's gonna be too long.

Um...

Mitzi!

She's a former student of mine who found me on YouTube.

She wants to know if I'm planning on just doing "Bad Boy" shows or if I'm planning on

coming up with different shows.

Uh...

I've done previous shows already.

Right now I'm just focusing on "Bad Boy" because that's what you all wanna see, but I have,

like, other sketch ideas and other things I would love to do.

I'd love to do a third season of "Successful People".

Theresa and I have talked about it.

We wanna do a musical season.

Because -- that's actually gonna lead into questions --

because she and I both write songs.

And it would be so fun.

It'd be a lot of work.

A lot of work.

But it would be really fun.

Anyway...

Just "Bad Boy" for now.

Vince Lee wants to know if I-- "I was just wondering if you had any formal education

in screen/fiction writing."

I don't.

I went to school for acting.

Um...and actually I-- I was talking to my dad about this the other day-- I'm kinda self-taught--

I'm not gonna pat myself on the back-- but I'm kind of...

I learn how to do things by watching other people.

I watched so much TV growing up.

I videotaped, guys, like, every sitcom I loved 'cause this was pre-streaming and pre-DVDs.

I would videotape them and I had seasons in my room of, like, "The Golden Girls" and "Friends"

and "Seinfeld" and "Ellen" and just, like, any sitcom and I watched them over and over

and over again.

And I think just watching, you study or absorb rhythms and punchlines and character and all

that stuff, so that was my school.

Classic, amazing sitcoms.

Um... yeah.

And sometimes I resist the idea of, like, learning too much because I feel like when

you have too many rules in your head, you think you can't do something 'cause it's wrong.

I-- I like trusting my instinct and the reaction of someone more than anything else.

Maybe that's naive of me to say, but that's what I like to do so far.

Anyway.

I almost made another sound.

Did you see my face?

It wanted to do it and then I stopped it.

Umm...

Did I skip a question?

We're onto personal questions now.

Gee, should it be a separate video?

Tell me, in the future, should I make a separate video starting now?

'Cause ten minutes is kinda perfect.

"Favorite music?"

That's from Xsari.

Alex J also asks, "Who's your favorite group or singer?"

You know, I'm really not sure who my favorite-- my favorite singer is.

I'd really have to, like, take some time to, like, think about it because there's so

many great singers out there and so much music that I really admire and a lot of really,

like, talented people.

Like, I grew up really loving ABBA.

So that's why I write about them.

Trisha Yearwood is one of my favorite singers.

I think she's an amazing, amazing interpreter of songs.

And I don't know, there's just a lot of great people out there.

Uh...

"Do you have a story about how you learned to play the piano that you can share with us?"

That's from DrQuizzler.

Well, this actually kinda goes into the self-taught thing again.

I started taking lessons when I was five years old.

Uh...

I played...

I took lessons for, like, two years or something.

Hated it.

Quit.

Then I think I started again because I kinda missed it.

Quit again.

We went to a friend of the family's house and they had a daughter named Amy who was

a year older than me.

And they had this beautiful grand piano.

She sits down at the piano.

So she's like 8 and I'm like 7.

And she plays "Memory" from "Cats".

Do you know that song?

Um...

"Memory all alone in the moonlight".

Barbra Streisand sings it.

Anyway...

And I was like, "Oh my god!

She's, like, basically my age and she's amazing!

I wanna play the piano again."

So I went home.

I found that we had the sheet music to that in one of our sheet music books.

And I started learning-- remembering what I had learned, but then, like, learning what

different symbols meant, um... practicing... like, I had learned the basics of how to read

sheet music and then she inspired me.

And so after that, I would just play and, like, I learned that song, then I learned

more songs and then...

I started writing songs, and...

I'm gonna stop 'cause it's already eleven and a half minutes.

But I could go on about that.

See, that could be a video!

This is what I'm saying!

Uhhh...

"Do you do much with music?"

That's from Helion Prestant.

Yeah!

But now I'm running out of time so I can't tell you!

Guys, I've written two musicals!

Like, albums.

I have an album on Spotify, guys.

I don't sing on it.

Theresa does and this guy named Matt.

I'm semi-proud of it.

It's just a bunch of ballads.

But if you listen to one song, that I love, listen to "Alaska".

Theresa Ryan sings it.

I'm very proud of that song.

Uh...

But I've kinda put a pin in writing music

'cause I just wanna do the comedy stuff now.

"Who were your adolescent celeb crushes?

Backstreet Boys?

*NSYNC?"

I love that you think that I'm that young.

No.

Uh...

"Zack from 'Saved By The Bell'?"

Never seen it.

That's from The Ocean's Wonders.

Guys, my adolescent crush -- those of you who might know who this is -- was Dennis Quaid.

He's an actor.

He was in "Innerspace".

He was married to Meg Ryan for a while.

If you're too young, you won't know who these people are.

When I was, like, 13, I got a Premiere magazine.

This was, like, the movie magazine of the time.

It talked all about movies.

And he was on the cover.

It was my first Premiere.

And he looked so fuckin' handsome with his smile.

He had, like, this classic smile.

I'm sure I made out to the magazine more than I read it.

So that was my first celeb crush.

I wanted a man.

Oh my god, and then I worked on "Vegas" -- this was a TV show.

And I was in a van with Dennis Quaid 'cause he was on that show.

So he was sitting up front and I was in the back.

I'm like, "Oh my god, I'm in a van with Dennis Quaid right now."

It's, like, 25 years later.

I didn't tell him that I used to make out with him on the front of a magazine.

But I should've, right?

Just for the story?

Dammit.

Um...

Hm-hm-hm!

"You mentioned you love alcohol" -- who doesn't?

"What's your favorite drink?"

Zachary Dunning.

An old fashioned.

But I go for a Bacardi Diet, like, for, like a nice buzz.

It treats me well.

But an old fashioned, mwah!

"Are you ready for GoT in April?"

That's also from Zachary.

Don't wanna disappoint you, but I don't-- I don't watch "Game of Thrones".

I've tried!

Too many characters!

And they're in different places!

And they have, like, accents!

I don't know what they're talkin' 'bout!

I'd have to, like, ask my friend who read the books to, like, explain to me what's going on

and I gave up.

Came home.

Watched more "Golden Girls".

Um...

Ghost Biologist: "What kind of places would you like to visit?"

The world.

I've seen America.

I haven't been anywhere else, so...

I wanna-- I wanna see Europe.

I wanna see Ireland.

I wanna go to Hawaii.

I wanna go everywhere.

I wanna go to all the Disney parks in the world.

All right, that was the last question.

I'm gonna keep this under seventeen.

Here's the countries.

New countries that you guys commented.

I'm not gonna repeat ones that I've had before.

We got Finland!

Helsinki in Finland.

Uh...

India...

This is the city: Hyderabad.

Hyderabad.

God, I googled the pronunciation.

Hyder-- Hyderabad?

Am I saying that right?

In India.

Brazil.

Kuwait.

Costa Rica.

Vancouver, Canada.

Same country, but new, new place.

Uh... Barbados.

Hi, Rihanna.

Just kidding.

United States, we got upstate New York.

Washington, D.C., which is my favorite city in all of America.

I spent much, much time there.

'Cause when I had a long distance boyfriend before, that's where he moved to!

Love that city.

Uh... District.

It's a city as well.

Uh, Hawaii.

Montana. Oklahoma.

New Mexico.

Belen in New Mexico.

Frederick, Maryland.

Detroit, Michigan.

South Carolina.

Kansas City, Kansas.

And Austell in Georgia.

Guys, I love you so much.

I really do love this.

I love the comments.

I'm sure this time only 200 of you are gonna watch because you realized that these go on

for way too long and that's fine!

Just give me tips on what you want in the future and, um...

Someone commented before that they had Mariah Carey albums as well, and I said next time

I'm gonna make it all Mariah, so that's...

I love her.

And I have a Mariah Carey story, guys.

I met her in 1999.

She was lovely, but it was a... hellish experience.

You want that story?

All right.

I'm wrappin' it up.

Have a great night.

Be good to yourself.

Bye.

Silhouette Studio Inches to Centimeters - Duration: 1:46.

hi guys! Welcome back to my channel Avanti Morocha.

This is a quick video.

Today I'm going to show you how to change the units in Silhouette Studio from inches to centimeters.

I'm going to click on the drawing tool and pick a rectangle.

As you can see the units are in inches.

To change them click "Edit" then "Preferences". Now change "Inches" to "Centimeters".

In this window, you can also change the language.

As you can see they are a lot to choose from.

click "apply" then "ok"

Now I'm going to draw another rectangle.

As you can see, the dimensions are now in centimeters.

One thing to keep in mind is that the dimensions on the mat will stay in inches,

however, the units that you are working with have been changed.

To illustrate the updated units, I'll give specific dimensions to this rectangle.

I'll open the transformation panel

and type the specifications dimensions.

10 x 4

As you can see the dimensions are in centimeters

I hope this video was useful.

Don't forget to visit my blog,

follow me on my social media,

It looks like milk, doesn't it?

No?

Anyway, milk works, right?

You can cook carbonara with milk

But you wanted to buy whipped cream, right?

(Will she be able to cook carbonara?)

How about using the mixer?

It tastes like chocolate

(Party food is finished)

(Chewing)

I like it!

It tastes good

(Soojin's milk pasta was actually great- The staff admitted it)

(Soyeon) You should enjoy the looking of pancakes, not the taste

Got it

It tastes good, though

- Do you like it? - Yes

- Soyeon, you're a good cook - She is

I got better, right?

She's been always good

She's been always good, she just didn't do it

She just didn't do it

(Soyeon) We would bring lunch to the studio, right?

Yes, I remember it

Every Saturday

(Soyeon) Today's is the first day in San Francisco

Right

(Soyeon) What was the best part?

(Minnie) This moment

I agree

I love grocery shopping in a foreign country

It's fun!

(Minnie) We hadn't done it for a while

(Minnie) We haven't done it so often since we debuted

- We always did it separately - Right

When we're finished

Today is the party day

But we haven't taken many photos

We need to take more

(Soyeon) Let's take one more after we finish eating

Okay

(Soyeon's workmanship)

(The crazy party just started)

(They're ready to burn the calories)

(Wow! I'm so excited)

Come here, we'll shot the last photo

Decorate yourself first

Now

((G)I-DLE is here in the party room)

(They're extremely excited)

(High-spirited)

(Thanks to the show, they're giving off their charms)

LATATA, let's get it!

((G)I-DLE- LATATA San Francisco ver.)

Written by Soyeon

Hey, everybody

(What are you afraid of?) (We're afraid of their excitement)

(Professional idol, Minnie)

(Cute Yuqi) (She's a real rabbit)

(The show must go on) ((G)I-IDLE - HANN (Alone))

(Warning: They're too excited)

(Shuhua and Yuqi are the directors on the next day?)

(Yuqi) They really look like fish

They really do!

(Minnie) Do you happen to know an idol group called '(G)I-DLE'?

(Please look forward to the next episode)

>> Rosemary: ON THIS MONDAY

NIGHT... THE U.S. LAYS OUT ITS

CASE AGAINST HUAWEI.

>> WE ARE DEEPLY GRATEFUL TO THE

GOVERNMENT OF CANADA FOR ITS

CONSISTENT AND ITS STEADFAST

COMMITMENT TO THE RULE OF LAW.

>> Rosemary: AS WASHINGTON

FACES OFF AGAINST THE SHINY TECH

GIANT AND MOVES TO EXTRADITE

MENG WANZHOU, WHERE DOES THAT

LEAVE CANADA?

>> NO MATTER WHAT THE SENTENCE

IS, HE HAS TO LIVE WITH THIS FOR

THE REST OF HIS LIFE.

>> Ian: A DIFFICULT DAY FOR THE

FAMILIES AND SURVIVORS OF THE

HUMBOLDT CRASH AS THEY FACE THE

CONVICTED DRIVER.

THE IMPACT OF THEIR EMOTIONAL

STATEMENT.

(*)

>> I DON'T FUNCTION PROPERLY.

I DON'T DO ANYTHING IN CLASS.

I FALL ASLEEP.

>> THIS IS ME TRYING TO STAY

AWAKE NOW.

>> Andrew: TEENS AND SLEEP

DEPRIVATION -- MORE COMMON THAN

YOU THINK AND IT CAN HAVE

SERIOUS HEALTH EFFECTS.

BUT WHAT IS KEEPING THEM UP AT

NIGHT?

THIS IS "THE NATIONAL."

(*)

(*)

>> Rosemary: CANADIANS HAVE

GOTTEN TO KNOW CHINESE TELECOM

GIANT HUAWEI AND ITS CHIEF

FINANCIAL OFFICER, MENG WANZHOU,

ALL TOO WELL.

HER ARREST LAST MONTH HAS

TRIGGERED THE WORST DIPLOMATIC

DISPUTE BETWEEN OTTAWA AND

BEIJING IN SOME TIME.

AND NOW WE HAVE A FULL ACCOUNT

OF WHY.

THE U.S. HAS CHARGED BOTH MENG

AND HER COMPANY WITH MULTIPLE

COUNTS OF FRAUD AND WIRE FRAUD.

TONIGHT WE'LL HAVE THE IMPACT IN

OTTAWA WHERE THE GOVERNMENT IS

STILL REELING FROM A POLITICAL

CASUALTY OF THE DISPUTE, NOW THE

FORMER AMBASSADOR TO CHINA, JOHN

McCALLUM.

AND WE'LL HAVE THE LATEST ON

CHINA'S NEXT MOVE.

BUT, FIRST, WE GO TO WASHINGTON

WHERE THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE

UNVEILED THE CHARGES THAT SET

EVERYTHING IN MOTION.

IN TWO SEPARATE INDICTMENTS

INVOLVING 23 COUNTS, THE

PROSECUTORS LAID OUT THE CASE

THAT HAS KEPT CANADA CAUGHT IN

THE MIDDLE OF A DISPUTE BETWEEN

TWO GLOBAL POWERS.

OUR PAUL HUNTER BREAKS DOWN THE

CHARGES.

>> Reporter: THAT THE U.S.

BELIEVES THAT MENG WANZHOU HAS

COMMITTED SERIOUS CRIMES IS NO

SECRET, BUT THE DEPTH OF THE

ALLEGATIONS AGAINST HER AND

HUAWEI, THE GIANT CHINESE TECH

COMPANY THAT SHE HELPS RUN,

UNVEILED TODAY IN WASHINGTON IS

STUNNING.

>> THE CRIMINAL ACTIVITY ALLEGED

IN THIS INDICTMENT GOES BACK AT

LEAST 10 YEARS AND GOES ALL THE

WAY TO THE TOP OF THE COMPANY.

>> Reporter: MENG, WHO WAS

DETAINED LAST MONTH IN

VANCOUVER, WHILE THE U.S. SEEKS

HER EXTRADITION FACES A LITANY

OF CHARGES.

CONSIDER SOME OF THE LANGUAGE IN

COURT DOCUMENTS MADE PUBLIC

TODAY, "CONSPIRACY, FRAUD, FALSE

REPRESENTATIONS, MONEY

LAUNDERING."

>> THERE ARE ADDITIONAL

TROUBLING ALLEGATIONS IN THE

INDICTMENT AS WELL.

INCLUDING THAT HUAWEI LIED TO

THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AND

ATTEMPTED TO OBSTRUCT JUSTICE BY

CONCEALING AND DESTROYING

EVIDENCE

AND MOVING POTENTIAL GOVERNMENT

WITNESSES BACK TO CHINA.

>> Reporter: AT THE HEART OF

THE ALLEGATIONS, THAT HUAWEI

SKIRTED U.S. SANCTIONS ON IRAN,

DOING BUSINESS THERE THROUGH

BANKS IN THE U.S. VIA A

SUBSIDIARY CALLED SKYCOM.

HUAWEI LONG DENIED LINKS WITH

SKYCOM, BUT SAID THE U.S. TODAY

THAT WAS A LIE AND A BRAZEN ONE.

WHAT'S MORE --

>> HUAWEI ALSO INTENTIONALLY AND

SYSTEMATICALLY SOUGHT TO STEAL

VALUABLE INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

FROM AN AMERICAN COMPANY.

>> Reporter: CORPORATE

ESPIONAGE.

THE ALLEGATION THAT HUAWEI STOLE

TRADE SECRETS, SPECIFICALLY

PLANS FOR THIS ROBOTIC

SMARTPHONE TESTER

FROM A U.S. COMPANY.

BUT BEYOND THE CHARGES THE KEY

U.S. MESSAGE TODAY IS THAT

HUAWEI CAN'T BE TRUSTED.

LONG LINKED TO THE CHINESE

GOVERNMENT AS IT LEADS THE PUSH

TOWARD A GLOBAL 5G NETWORK, MANY

LABEL HUAWEI A SPY FOR CHINA

THAT THREATENS ALL WHO DEAL WITH

IT.

>> WE HAVE TO CAREFULLY CONSIDER

THE RISKS THAT COMPANIES LIKE

HUAWEI POSE IF WE'RE GOING TO

ALLOW THEM INTO OUR

TELECOMMUNICATIONS

INFRASTRUCTURE.

>> Reporter: ALL OF IT A KEY

STEP IN THE U.S. GETTING MENG

OUT OF CANADA AND INTO THIS

COUNTRY TO FACE THOSE CHARGES IN

PERSON.

AN EXTRADITION HEARING NOW LOOMS

AS THE U.S. JUSTICE DEPARTMENT

AWAITS.

PAUL HUNTER, CBC NEWS,

WASHINGTON.

>> Rosemary: MENG WANZHOU HAS

SAID ALL ALONG THAT SHE IS

INNOCENT AND LATE TODAY THE B.C.

SUPREME COURT ANNOUNCED THAT

SHE'LL MAKE HER NEXT

APPEARANCE IN VANCOUVER TOMORROW

MORNING TO DISCUSS HER BAIL

CONDITIONS.

OF COURSE IT'S CANADA'S ROLE IN

MENG'S ARREST THAT HAS CREATED

THIS RIFT BETWEEN OTTAWA AND

BEIJING, ONE THAT SEEMS TO BE

DEEPENING BY THE DAY.

AND IT IS

CALLING INTO QUESTION THE PRIME

MINISTER'S HANDLING OF THE FILE.

KATIE SIMPSON EXPLAINS.

>> Reporter: FOR SIX WEEKS

MENG WANZHOU HAS BEEN HELD IN

THIS VANCOUVER HOME WAITING FOR

THE AMERICANS TO MAKE THEIR

MOVE.

THROUGHOUT IT ALL, OTTAWA HAS

REFUSED DEMANDS FROM THE HIGHEST

LEVELS OF POWER IN CHINA TO

RELEASE THE HUAWEI EXECUTIVE.

AND WASHINGTON HAS NOTICED.

>> WE ARE DEEPLY GRATEFUL TO THE

GOVERNMENT OF CANADA FOR ITS

ASSISTANCE AND ITS STEADFAST

COMMITMENT TO THE RULE OF LAW.

>> Reporter: CANADA'S

COMMITMENT HAS MADE IT CHINA'S

TARGET.

IN THE WAKE OF MENG'S ARREST,

BEIJING ARBITRARILY DETAINED TWO

CANADIANS AND SENTENCED A THIRD

TO DEATH ON DRUG CHARGES.

THESE NEW DETAILED ACCUSATIONS

MAY COMPLICATE MATTERS FURTHER.

>> WHAT IT DOES BASICALLY IS

THAT IT STRENGTHENS THE ARGUMENT

IN FAVOUR OF EXTRADITION.

>> Reporter: OPINIONS ON THE

EXTRADITION CASE ARE A SENSITIVE

MATTER.

JOHN McCALLUM KNOWS THAT AFTER

BEING FIRED AS AMBASSADOR TO

CHINA ON FRIDAY.

HE TWICE PUBLICLY ARGUED THAT

THE U.S. DOES NOT HAVE A STRONG

EXTRADITION CASE, EMBARRASSING

GOVERNMENT BY APPEARING TO SIDE

WITH BEIJING IN THE DISPUTE.

>> WHAT IS IMPORTANT HERE IS

THAT WE STICK TO OUR GUNS, THAT

OUR ALLIES ARE THE AMERICANS AND

NOT THE CHINESE IN THIS CASE.

>> Reporter: ON THE FIRST DAY

IN THE NEW HOUSE OF COMMONS THE

CONSERVATIVES JUMPED AT THE

OPPORTUNITY TO ACCUSE THE

GOVERNMENT OF MISMANAGING THE

SITUATION.

>> THE LIBERAL GOVERNMENT HAS

PLAYED POLITICS WITH THIS

SERIOUS DIPLOMATIC DISPUTE

WITH CHINA FROM THE START.

>> The Hon. Chyrstia Freeland:

THE ONLY PEOPLE PLAYING

POLITICAL GAMES, WHEN TWO

CANADIANS ARE IN A DIFFICULT

SITUATION, ARE THE MEMBERS

OPPOSITE.

AND THAT IS TRULY REPREHENSIBLE.

>> Reporter: THE FOREIGN

AFFAIRS MINISTER SAYS THAT

DESPITE McCALLUM'S FIRING,

OTTAWA'S WORK TO EASE TENSIONS

CONTINUES FULL SPEED.

>> The Hon. Chyrstia Freeland:

THIS SITUATION LAST WEEK IS

UNFORTUNATE.

IT IN NO WAY

CHANGES OUR GOVERNMENT'S

DIRECTION.

>> Reporter: ON TOP OF ALL OF

THAT, THE GOVERNMENT STILL HAS

TO DECIDE WHETHER TO ALLOW

HUAWEI TO BE A PART OF CANADA'S

5G WIRELESS NETWORK.

CANADA'S CLOSEST SECURITY

ALLIES, INCLUDING THE U.S., HAVE

ALREADY BANNED THE TECH GIANT.

KATIE SIMPSON, CBC NEWS, OTTAWA.

>> Rosemary: SO WHY ALL OF

THIS CONCERN OVER HUAWEI?

AND IT'S BUILDING THE HIGH-SPEED

NEXT GENERATION NETWORK AROUND

THE WORLD BUT THE NETWORK TO THE

RULING CLASS HAS MANY NERVOUS.

CANADA IS THE ONLY COUNTRY THAT

HAS NOT BLOCKED OR RESTRICTED

HUAWEI'S PLANS OVER SECURITY

CONCERNS.

THE U.S. AND AUSTRALIA AND NEW

ZEALAND HAVE FROZEN THE COMPANY

OUT FROM THEIR 5G NETWORKS.

THE U.K. HAS SET OUT STRINGENT

SECURITY RULES.

AND SEVERAL OTHER COUNTRIES ARE

IN

THE PROCESS OF DEBATING

RESTRICTIONS OR BAN.

EARLIER THIS MONTH PUBLIC SAFETY

MINISTER RALPH GOODALE SAID THAT

THEY'RE LOOKING INTO IT.

>> The Hon. Ralph Goodale: WE

WILL NOT COMPROMISE NATIONAL

SECURITY.

WE WILL MAKE THE APPROPRIATE

ANALYSIS AND TAKE THE DECISION

ULTIMATELY THAT WE BELIEVE TO BE

IN CANADA'S INTEREST.

>> Rosemary: WHEN ASKED

GOODALE WOULDN'T SAY WHEN THE

GOVERNMENT WOULD MAKE A

DECISION.

SO AS CANADA CONSIDERS ITS NEXT

MOVE, WHAT ABOUT CHINA?

HUAWEI HAS BECOME THE LARGEST

TELECOM EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURER

IN THE WORLD BUT THERE'S A LOT

AT STAKE.

AND LET'S BRING IN OUR ASIA

COORESPONDENT SASA PETRICIC.

HE'S IN BEIJING WHERE IT'S

ALREADY TUESDAY MORNING.

SASA, GIVE US WHAT WE MIGHT

EXPECT IN TERMS OF CHINA TODAY?

>> Reporter: WELL, ROSIE, IN

JUST A FEW HOURS I EXPECT SOME

PRETTY ANGRY INDIGNANT REACTION,

THE SAME THING THAT WE HAVE SEEN

LEVELED AGAINST CANADA IN THE

LAST FEW WEEKS.

BUT TO A LARGER AND A LOUDER

DEGREE.

YOU KNOW, THIS IS CHINA'S

LARGEST AND MOST IMPORTANT TECH

COMPANY.

IT IS -- IT'S BEEN PORTRAYED AS

THAT.

AND IT'S BEEN ACCUSED OF FRAUD

AND SOME VERY SERIOUS OTHER

CRIMES.

THIS IS EXACTLY THE SORT OF

THING THAT THE UNITED STATES HAS

ACCUSED CHINA IN GENERAL, SO IT

IS SYMBOLIC OF THIS LARGER

DEBATE THAT'S BEEN GOING ON.

THIS LARGER BATTLE.

HUAWEI ITSELF IS ALSO SYMBOLIC

BECAUSE IT IS A SOURCE OF

NATIONAL PRIDE HERE.

SO, YOU KNOW, THIS IS GOING TO

PLAY INTO THIS CHINESE THEME

THAT WE'VE SEEN DEVELOP OVER THE

PAST NUMBER OF YEARS WHICH IS

THAT CHINA IS RISING.

THAT IT IS, IN FACT, TAKING ITS

RIGHTFUL PLACE ON THE WORLD

STAGE.

BUT AT THE SAME TIME THAT THE

WESTERN WORLD AND ESPECIALLY THE

UNITED STATES, IS TRYING TO DO

EVERYTHING THAT IT CAN TO KEEP

CHINA DOWN, POLITICALLY,

MILITARILY AND ECONOMICALLY.

SO THAT'S WHAT TO EXPECT.

THE QUESTION WILL BE WHETHER

SOME OF THE VITRIOL NOW THAT IS

BEING DIRECTED AT CANADA WILL

SHIFT SOUTH OF THE BORDER.

ROSIE?

>> Rosemary: SASA PETRICIC IN

BEIJING.

THANK YOU.

>> Reporter: MY PLEASURE.

>> Rosemary: WHILE THIS DRAMA

CAN CHINA PLAYS OUT THE FAMILIES

OF CANADIANS DETAINED THERE WILL

HAVE TO KEEP WAITING FOR

ANSWERS.

LET'S TURN NOW THOUGH TO ANOTHER

BIG STORY HERE IN CANADA,

EMOTIONS ARE RUNNING VERY HIGH

IN SASKATCHEWAN TONIGHT, IAN.

>> Ian: ROSEMARY, THE FAMILIES

OF THE VICTIMS AND THE SURVIVORS

OF THE HUMBOLDT BUS CRASH ARE IN

MELFORT, SASKATCHEWAN.

THIS WAS THE FIRST DAY OF VICTIM

IMPACT STATE MENS SO THE FIRST

TIME THEY COULD SPEAK DIRECTLY

TO THE MAN RESPONSIBLE FOR THE

CRASH.

OUR SUSAN ORMISTON HAS BEEN

FOLLOWING THIS STORY FROM THE

VERY BEGINNING AND SHE'S IN

MELFORT TOO, SPEAKING TO THOSE

FAMILIES AS THEY PROCESS THEIR

GRIEF, ANGER, AND EVEN

COMPASSION FOR JASKIRAT SINGH

SIDHU.

>> Reporter: MELFORT -- A

PRAIRIE TOWN, MUCH LIKE

HUMBOLDT.

FRIGID THIS MORNING AS FAMILIES

OF YOUNG HOCKEY PLAYERS AND THE

HUMBOLDT BRONCOS STAFF MADE THE

TREK TO A MAKESHIFT COURT IN A

COMMUNITY CENTRE.

STILL TRYING VALIANTLY TO MAKE

SENSE OF THEIR ENORMOUS LOSS.

JASKIRAT SINGH SIDHU, THE TRUCK

DRIVER, SPARED THEM A TRIAL,

PLEADING GUILTY TO DANGEROUS

DRIVING CAUSING DEATH AND

INJURY.

BUT STILL NO EXPLANATION IN

AGREED FACTS PRESENTED TODAY OF

WHY HE BARRELED THROUGH A STOP

SIGN AT HIGHWAY SPEED.

NO CELLPHONE DISTRACTION,

NOTHING OBSCURED HIS VISION AND

THE ROAD WAS GOOD.

THE RESULTS CATASTROPHIC.

PLAYERS AND STAFF WERE THROWN

FROM THE BUS, 16 DIED, 13 MORE

BADLY INJURED.

THE TRUCK CAB TIPPED BUT SIDHU

WAS ABLE TO WALK AWAY.

A SCARING FATE AS HE AND SOME

FAMILIES SAT THROUGH HOURS OF

TEARS AND ANGER.

THE BOULETS LOST THEIR SON,

LOGAN.

BERNADINE TOLD THE COURT THAT

SHE'S BROKEN HEARTED.

>> DEATH JUST SEEMS SO FINAL.

AND I KNOW THAT MY SON IS NOT

COMING HOME.

I KNOW THAT HE WON'T COME IN AND

LAY ON THE COUCH.

BUT I AM JUST KIND OF NOT READY

FOR THAT YET.

AND I KNOW THAT HE'S NOT GOING

TO BE THERE, BUT THE WORD

"DEATH" IS FINAL AND IT'S NOT

WHERE I WANT TO BE.

>> Reporter: TOBY SAID HE

CAN'T FORGIVE YET.

>> IT'S JUST A PROCESS THAT

WE'RE GOING THROUGH TO GET TO

PEACE AND TO GET TO PEACE OR

TO COME TO FORGIVENESS.

WE'RE JUST NOT THERE YET.

I DON'T KNOW THAT STRUGGLING IS

THE RIGHT WORD BUT WE'RE JUST

NOT THERE IN OUR JOURNEY.

>> Reporter: THE LUKAN FAMILY

LAST FALL AT THE MEMORIAL, BUT

SOBBING TODAY AS CONNOR'S MOTHER

SAID, "I AM HERE TODAY TO LOOK

AT THE MAN WHO WAS

RESPONSIBLE... I HAVE NO

FORGIVENESS... YOUR SENSELESS

LACK OF CARE CHANGED EVERYTHING.

I WANT YOU TO SEE AND FEEL THE

RESPONSIBLE... I HAVE NO

FORGIVENESS... YOUR SENSELESS

LACK OF CARE CHANGED EVERYTHING.

I WANT YOU TO SEE AND FEEL THE

PAIN THAT YOU HAVE CAUSED."

KERE TODAY TO LOOK

AT THE MAN WHO WAS

RESPONSIBLE... I HAVE NO

FORGIVENESS... YOUR SENSELESS

LACK OF CARE CHANGED EVERYTHING.

I WANT YOU TO SEE AND FEEL THE

PAIN THAT YOU HAVE CAUSED."

KALEB DAHLGREN SURVIVED THE

CRASH.

HE'S NOT HERE.

HIS FATHER SPOKE OF SIDHU.

>> I MEAN, HE'S HUMAN AND I

CAN'T IMAGINE THAT HE WOULDN'T

FEEL THE IMPACT OF WHAT'S

HAPPENED.

AND NO MATTER WHAT THE SENTENCE

IS, HE HAS TO LIVE WITH THIS FOR

THE REST OF HIS LIFE.

>> Reporter: THE FAMILIES DO

WANT RESOLUTION, NOT ONLY A

PRISON TERM BUT STIFFER TRUCKER

TRAINING AND SEATBELTS.

>> I JUST WANT THIS TO NEVER

HAPPEN AGAIN, THAT'S ONE OF THE

BIGGEST THINGS FOR ME.

ONE SMALL ACTION OR IN ACTION

CAN CAUSE SO MUCH DAMAGE.

>> Reporter: TOMORROW IN THIS

SPORTS GYM TURNED COURT, MORE

PAINFUL STATEMENTS, CATHARTIC

BUT INTENSE.

LIKE SCOTT THOMAS' LETTER TO HIS

SON, EVAN.

>> I KNOW THAT HE'S LISTENING

WHEREVER HE IS.

HOPEFULLY NOT A LETTER GOODBYE.

I DON'T KNOW THAT THERE WILL

EVER BE A GOODBYE.

>> Ian: SUSAN, SO MANY EMOTIONAL

MOMENTS FOR THE FAMILIES TODAY.

BUT WHAT ABOUT THE DRIVER OF THE

TRUCK, WHAT YOU CAN TELL US

ABOUT HIM?

>> Reporter: YEAH, SIDHU AT

-- SAT WITH HIS LAWYERS AT THE

TABLE.

HE HAD SEVEN FAMILY MEMBERS IN

THE FIRST ROW SUPPORTING HIM AND

IT WAS AN INCREDIBLY TOUGH DIE

-- DAY FOR HIM AS WELL.

THERE WERE MANY MOMENTS BUT ONE

THAT I REMEMBER PARTICULARLY

CAME FROM MARILYN CROSS, SHE'S

THE MOTHER OF MARK CROSS, THE

ASSISTANT COACH, THE 28-YEAR-OLD

WHO DIED.

AND I WANT TO READ A LITTLE BIT

OF WHAT SHE SAID AND LOOKING

DIRECTLY AT SIDHU.

SHE SAID, "I GRIEVE FOR YOU

AS WELL.

I DON'T HATE YOU.

I SEE YOU AS A YOUNG MAN JUST

LIKE MY SON MARK.

I GRIEVE FOR THE LOSS THAT YOUR

FAMILY WILL EXPERIENCE, FOR THE

LOSS OF YOUR FREEDOM AND YOUR

FUTURE.

I'M SO RELIEVED THAT YOU PLEADED

GUILTY AND I APPLAUD YOUR

COURAGE FOR DOING SO.

IN YOUR FUTURE I HOPE YOU MAKE

EVERY EFFORT TO MAKE THIS WORLD

A BETTER PLACE, JUST LIKE MY SON

MARK WOULD HAVE DONE."

AND WITH THAT SIDHU REACHED FOR

A TISSUE AND BURIED HIS EYES,

BOWING HIS HEAD.

IT WAS AN EXTRAORDINARY DAY,

IAN, ONE THAT NO ONE IN THAT

COURTROOM WILL EVER FORGET.

>> Ian: THIS IS A STORY RIGHT

FROM THE BEGINNING SINCE THE

CRASH THAT HAS BEEN FILLED WITH

SO MANY POWERFUL EMOTIONS AND I

KNOW THAT MORE ARE TO COME THIS

WEEK.

THANK YOU, SUSAN.

>> Andrew: LET'S TURN NOW TO

VENEZUELA, A PART OF THE WORLD

FACING GREAT UPHEAVAL FROM

WITHIN AND FROM THE OUTSIDE.

THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY IS

MOVING TO FURTHER ISOLATE

VENEZUELAN PRESIDENT NICOLÁS

MADURO AND

CANADA IS ONE OF THOSE COUNTRIES

LEADING THE CHARGE.

>> The Hon. Chyrstia Freeland:

I AM TODAY ANNOUNCING THAT

CANADA WILL HOST AN URGENT

MEETING OF THE LIMA GROUP OF

COUNTRIES HERE IN OTTAWA.

>> Andrew: THE LIMA GROUP IS

MADE UP OF 12 COUNTRIES CONVENED

SPECIFICALLY TO ADDRESS

VENEZUELA'S CRISIS.

THEY'RE COMING TO OTTAWA NEXT

MONDAY.

ON THE AGENDA, BOOSTING SUPPORT

FOR MADURO'S RIVAL, OPPOSITION

LEADER JUAN GUIADÓ.

THE U.S. DECLARED SANCTIONS

TODAY AGAINST STATE-OWNED OIL

UNTIL MADURO HANDS POWER OVER TO

GUIADÓ.

>> THE UNITED STATES IS HOLDING

ACCOUNTABLE THOSE RESPONSIBLE

FOR VENEZUELA'S TRAGIC DECLINE.

>> Andrew: IT IS A POTENTIALLY

CRIPPLING BLOW FOR MADURO, BUT

ALSO FOR REGULAR EVERYDAY

PEOPLE.

THEY'RE ALREADY LIVING THROUGH

AN ECONOMIC CATASTROPHE.

AND RIGHT NOW 40% OF THE

COUNTRY'S OIL GOES TO THE UNITED

STATES.

BUT WHILE CANADA, THE U.S. AND

OTHERS THROW THEIR SUPPORT TO

THE OPPOSITION, RUSSIA HAS

PLACED AN AWFULLY BIG BET ON

MADURO.

AND AS CHRIS BROWN REPORTS FROM

MOSCOW, OVER THERE THIS CRISIS

PLAYS VERY DIFFERENT.

>> [speaking foreign

language].

>> Reporter: NICOLÁS MADURO

CALLED HIS LAST MEETING WITH

VLADIMIR PUTIN IN DECEMBER "THE

MOST USEFUL OF HIS CAREER."

AND NO WONDER.

RUSSIAN STATE COMPANIES WROTE

HIM SOME BIG CHEQUES, BRINGING

RUSSIA'S EXPOSURE IN VENEZUELA

TO $17 BILLION.

MUCH OF IT IS AT RISK IF MADURO

GOES.

>> [SPEAKING RUSSIAN]

>> Reporter: THE UNITED STATES

HAS AGAIN ORGANIZED A GOVERNMENT

OVERTHROW, SCREAMED A HOST ON

RUSSIAN STATE TV.

IT'S GONE WALL-TO-WALL WITH ITS

VENEZUELA COVERAGE.

"THEY JUST WANT TO GET THE OIL."

WITH THE LARGEST RESERVES OF OIL

IN THE WORLD, RUSSIA'S GIANT

STATE OIL COMPANY HAS GONE ALL

IN ON VENEZUELA, BANKROLLING A

$6 BILLION LOAN TO BE PAID OFF

DOWN THE ROAD.

LAST MONTH RUSSIA FLEW IN A PAIR

OF NUCLEAR CAPABLE BOMBERS TO

UNDERSCORE THE LONG-STANDING

MILITARY PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN THE

TWO COUNTRIES.

IT INCLUDES BILLIONS OF DOLLARS

OF RUSSIAN LOANS FOR VENEZUELA

TO BUY RUSSIA WEAPONRY.

>> [SPEAKING RUSSIAN]

>> Reporter: RUSSIAN

OPPOSITION FIGURE ALEXEI

NAVALNY,

WHO IS BANNED FROM CHALLENGING

PUTIN IN ELECTION BUT STILL HAS

MILLIONS ON HIS YouTube

CHANNEL, NOTED

THAT RUSSIANS COULD GET A LOT OF

THEIR OWN ROADS AND HOSPITALS

FIXED UP WITH ALL OF THE CASH

THAT'S AT RISK.

>> THERE'S ECONOMIC RISKS FOR

RUSSIANS IN THIS COUNTRY AND

ASSETS IN THIS COUNTRY.

>> Reporter: DIMITRI ROSENTHAL

HE SAYS THAT BY NOW HE BELIEVES

THAT THE KREMLIN IS HEDGING ITS

BETS AND TRYING TO MAKE SOME

DEALS WITH THE OPPOSITION, EVEN

THOUGH THE KREMLIN DENIES IT.

>> I THINK THAT WE HAVE SOME

CAPABILITY TO BUILD SOME DEALS

WITH THE OPPOSITION.

>> Reporter: LOSING MONEY IS

FAR FROM RUSSIA'S ONLY WORRY.

STRATEGICALLY VENEZUELA IS

RUSSIA'S BEST MEANS OF

PROTECTING ITS POWER INTO THE

WESTERN HEMISPHERE.

WITHOUT MADURO, RUSSIA'S GLOBAL

REACH IS WEAKENED.

CHRIS BROWN, CBC NEWS, MOSCOW.

>> Andrew: AND RECENTLY IN

CERTAIN HOTSPOTS WHERE

DENIABILITY AND DISCRETION ARE

NEEDED, RUSSIA HAS USED THE

OUTFIT KNOWN AS THE WAGNER

GROUP.

ACCORDING TO REUTERS SOURCES SAY

THAT AT LEAST 400 WAGNER

CONTRACTORS WERE DISPATCHED TO

VENEZUELA TO PROTECT MADURO IN

THE CURRENT CRISIS.

KREMLIN HAS DENIED THOSE REPORTS

McARTHUR IS CHARGED WITH THE

MURDERS OF EIGHT MEN WHO HAD

CONNECTIONS TO THE CITY'S GAY

THEY WENT MISSING BETWEEN 2010

AND 2017.

THEIR REMAINS WERE FOUND AT A

DISCOVERY OF WHAT SHE'D BEEN

>> IT WOULD BE FAR BETTER TO DO

>> Reporter: OTHERS ARE HOPING

CANADIANS SLEEP, WHY IT'S SO

IMPORTANT AND ELUSIVE.

ABOUT A THIRD OF CANADIAN KIDS

AND ADULTS DON'T GET ENOUGH

SLEEP.

NOW FOR TEENS, ENOUGH IS

GENERALLY AROUND EIGHT TO 10

HOURS.

AND NOT GETTING THAT HAS BEEN

LINKED TO PROBLEMS WITH MEMORY,

CONCENTRATION, MOTIVATION,

SCHOOL PERFORMANCE.

SO NOW FOR THE LAST CHAPTER OF

OUR SERIES ON SLEEP, DUNCAN

McCUE TAKES A LOOK AT THE

YOUNG AND THE SLEEPLESS.

(*)

>> Reporter: SHE'S 18 AND

EAGER TO

GRADUATE FROM HIGH SCHOOL, BUT

HANNAH WATERS IS STRUGGLING TO

CROSS THE FINISH LINE.

SHE LIKES SCHOOL, ESPECIALLY

MUSIC AND ART.

TROUBLE IS ON AVERAGE HANNAH IS

ONLY SLEEPING THREE TO FOUR

HOURS A NIGHT.

>> I HAVE TALKED WITH MY DOCTOR

ABOUT IT, AND MY PARENTS AND

STUFF.

AND WE'RE STILL TRYING TO FIND

WAYS FOR ME TO, LIKE, GET ENOUGH

SLEEP AND WHAT MIGHT WORK.

I DIDN'T REALLY GET ANY SLEEP

LAST NIGHT.

SO THIS IS ME TRYING TO STAY

AWAKE NOW, ACTUALLY.

>> Reporter: THE WHEELS ON THE

BUS ROLL BRIGHT AND EARLY.

7:35 a.m., SHE ARRIVES AT

SMITHS FALL DISTRICT COLLEGIATE.

CLASSES START AT 8:10.

AS HANNAH'S DAY UNFOLDS IT'S NOT

JUST LEARNING THAT'S DIFFICULT,

IT'S STAYING AWAKE.

>> I GENERALLY FEEL PRETTY SICK

WHEN I DON'T GET ENOUGH SLEEP.

AND I OFTEN GET KIND OF SHAKY

AND NAUSEOUS.

I FEEL REALLY ASHAMED BECAUSE I

KEEP SAYING, WELL, I'LL GET THIS

DONE, I'LL GET THIS DONE

COUNTLESS TIMES AND I DON'T.

AND I KNOW WHY BUT I'M NOT

FINDING A WAY TO FIX IT.

>> Reporter: SHE'S NOT ALONE.

TEENAGERS' BODY CLOCKS ARE

NATURALLY GEARED TO STAY UP

LATE.

BUT MANY OF HANNAH'S FRIENDS AND

PEERS GET BY ON SIX HOURS OF

SLEEP OR LESS.

>> I HAVE PROBLEMS WITH ALMOST

FALLING ASLEEP IN CLASS.

LIKE, I'D BE LISTENING TO, LIKE,

WHAT THEY WRITE UP ON THE BOARD

AND I'D JUST FEEL MY HEAD DIP

AND I'D SHOOT RIGHT BACK UP.

IT WAS PRETTY BAD.

>> LIKE, YOUR BRAIN ISN'T AWAKE

TO UNDERSTAND EVERYTHING AND

THEN THEY CALL ON YOU.

AND YOU DON'T KNOW THE ANSWER.

AND THEN YOU JUST KIND OF

FREEZE.

>> SOMETIMES I DON'T EVEN GO.

LIKE, I WILL FAKE SICK AND I'LL

STAY IN BED ALL DAY.

I DON'T FUNCTION PROPERLY AND I

DON'T DO ANYTHING IN CLASS.

I FALL ASLEEP AND I SNAP AT

PEOPLE.

IT'S NOT GOOD.

(*)

>> Reporter: DR. NURANG, THE

DIRECTOR OF SLEEP MEDICINE AT

THE HOSPITAL FOR SICK CHILDREN,

SEES ALL KINDS OF SLEEP-DEPRIVED

CHILDREN, FROM 2 YEAR OLDS TO

TEENAGERS.

HER PATIENTS USUALLY SUFFER

SEVERE SLEEP DISORDERS.

>> THERE ARE REALLY ALARMING

STUDIES IN THAT GROUP.

>> Reporter: BUT SHE SEES A

DISTURBING TREND AMONG TEENS,

WHAT SHE CALLS AN EPIDEMIC OF

SLEEP DEPRIVATION.

>> IT'S NOT UNCOMMON FOR ME TO

SEE TEENAGERS IN MY CLINIC WHO

ARE TELLING ME ON A SCHOOL NIGHT

THEY'RE GOING TO BED AT 1:00

a.m., 2:00 a.m. AND 3:00

a.m.

AND GETTING UP AT 7:00 a.m. TO

GO TO SCHOOL.

AND THOSE GROUP OF CHILDREN ARE

ALSO AT INCREASED RISK OF

CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE,

METABOLIC DISEASE DOWNSTREAM,

AND CERTAINLY DEPRESSION AND

MOOD CHANGES.

>> OKAY, SO FEMALE... AND IN

GRADE NINE.

AND 8 IN GENERAL, I FEEL

ANXIOUS, WORRIED OR STRESS.

C, OFTEN.

>> Reporter: THAT LACK OF

SLEEP AND THE NEGATIVE EFFECTS

THAT IT BRINGS INTRIGUED QUINN

ATKINSON AND

LINDSAY HORSIE.

THE GRADE 10 STUDENTS DECIDED TO

INVESTIGATE WHY THEIR CLASSMATES

CONSTANTLY COMPLAIN OF FATIGUE.

>> WE WERE LIKE WHAT'S GOING ON

AND WHY IS EVERYBODY IN OUR

SCHOOL SO TIRED.

>> WE WANTED TO KNOW IF IT WAS

MORE OF A BANDWAGON THING, LIKE,

EVERYBODY IS JUST LIKE OH,

THEY'RE TIRED AND I'LL JUST SAY

I'M TIRED.

OR IF THEY WERE LIKE GENUINELY

ACTUALLY TIRED.

AND ACTUALLY NEEDED SLEEP.

AND IF THEY WERE GOING TO GO

HOME AND ACTUALLY TAKE A NAP OR

IF THEY WERE JUST SAYING THEY

WERE.

>> I HAVE TROUBLE FALLING ASLEEP

RIGHT AWAY.

>> Reporter: THEY DESIGNED A

QUESTIONNAIRE, INCLUDING A

SURVEY COMMONLY USED TO DETECT

SLEEPING DISORDERS.

AND THEY HAD THE STUDENTS

COMPLETE IT ANONYMOUSLY.

>> THAT'S SO COOL.

>> I KNOW.

WHEN THE JUDGES COME WE CAN BE

LIKE AH-HA...

>> Reporter: THEY GOT OVER 300

RESPONSES AND PREPARED TO

PRESENT THEIR FINDINGS.

>> THAT'S CUTE!

>> Reporter: IT'S THE DAY OF

THE BIG SCIENCE FAIR.

>> I AM LINDSAY AND THIS IS

QUINN.

AND TODAY OUR SCIENCE EXPERIMENT

IS ON SLEEP.

AND WE HAVE CONCLUSIONS AND

ANALYSED OUR DATA AND CREATED

GRAPHS LIKE THESE.

>> Reporter: THE DUO IS PUMPED

TO SHARE THEIR RESULTS WITH THE

JUDGES.

>> THE AVERAGE OF OUR SAMPLE

SIZE GOT 7.67 HOURS OF SLEEP ON

A SCHOOL NIGHT.

>> IT'S KIND OF FUNNY BECAUSE

SOME PEOPLE GOT THREE HOURS AND

SOME PEOPLE GOT 12.

SO IT KIND OF BALANCED OUT.

>> Reporter: AMONG THEIR

FINDINGS, NEARLY TWO-THIRDS OF

THEIR PEERS SURVEYED ARRIVE TO

SCHOOL SLEEP DEPRIVED.

32% REPORTED EXCESSIVE

SLEEPINESS WITH A HANDFUL SO

LACKING IN SLEEP THAT IT COULD

REQUIRE MEDICAL INTERVENTION.

>> NOW I FEEL THAT I NEED TO

SLEEP MORE BECAUSE I'M SCARED --

>> I KNOW.

I'M SO SCARED OF BEING

SLEEP DEPRIVED.

>> Reporter: THEIR SMALL

PROJECT MIRRORS NATIONAL STUDIES

THAT SAY THAT ADOLESCENTS GET

LESS SLEEP THAN EVER BEFORE.

SO WHAT EXACTLY IS KEEPING MANY

OF THESE STUDENTS FROM GETTING

THE SLEEP THEY NEED?

DR. NURANG HAS BEEN ASKING THE

SAME QUESTION.

>> WHEN WE ASKED THESE

ADOLESCENTS WHAT THEY WERE

DOING, IT WAS SOCIAL MEDIA

PLAYED A BIG ROLE IN THEIR SLEEP

DISTURBANCE.

SO THEY HAD THE PHONE IN THE

ROOM AND IT'S VIBRATING AT

NIGHT.

AND THEY PICK UP THE PHONE AND

THEY'RE RESPONDING TO THE TEXT

MESSAGE.

AND THEY WILL FALL ASLEEP AGAIN,

OF COURSE, BUT IF YOU DO THAT

MULTIPLE TIMES A NIGHT IT REALLY

LENDS TO SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF

SLEEP DEPRIVATION.

>> Reporter: SO TECHNOLOGY,

HOW MUCH OF THAT IS A PROBLEM IN

TERMS OF TRYING TO GET TO BED?

>> FOR ME IT'S QUITE A PROBLEM.

BECAUSE I'LL BE ON MY PHONE AND

I HAVE PEOPLE TEXTING ME AND

MESSAGING MY PHONE AND I'LL LOOK

AT IT AND THEN I'LL BE UP...

>> Reporter: INDEED, MOST

TEENS ARE WELL AWARE THAT TOO

MUCH SCREEN TIME SABOTAGES THEIR

SLEEP.

>> I THINK THAT TECH HAS A HUGE

PART OF WHY STUDENTS HAVE

TROUBLE SLEEPING.

IT'S KIND OF ADDICTING.

>> YEAH.

MY GUY FRIENDS STAY UP TO 3:00

PLAYING VIDEO GAMES OR TEXTING

THEIR OTHER FRIENDS.

>> I DO KNOW THAT SOME GIRLS

WOULD PROBABLY DO THE SAME THING

TOO, LIKE BEING ON THEIR PHONES

AND DOING WHATEVER.

>> Reporter: SO TECH IS AN

ISSUE.

WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT HOW THAT

MAY IMPACT YOU?

>> I HAVE BEEN SEEING THAT MY

GRADES HAVE BEEN DROPPING A BIT

SINCE I'M NOT GETTING ENOUGH

SLEEP.

>> MY GRADES WERE BETWEEN 90s

AND 100s AND NOW THEY'RE AT

70s.

>> Reporter: SO THE STUDENTS

KNOW THAT THEIR GRADES ARE

AFFECTED AND THEY KNOW THEY NEED

MORE SLEEP.

BUT WHAT CAN THEY DO ABOUT IT?

>> YOU NEED TO BUILD IN SOME

RELAXATION TIME SO THAT YOUR

BODY CAN SLEEP.

LIKE, YOU NEED TO TAKE CARE OF

YOURSELF.

>> Reporter: THIS WELLNESS

CLASS IS GEARED TOWARDS

EDUCATING TEENS ABOUT SLEEP AND

EMPOWERING THEM TO SPEAK UP

ABOUT WHAT MIGHT HELP.

>> DO YOU THINK THAT THE SCHOOL

BOARDS WOULD HAVE A CONVERSATION

ABOUT MOVING THE SCHOOL LATER IN

THE DAY AND HAVING US, LIKE,

START AT MAYBE, LIKE, 10:00 OR

11:00 AND GO TO 4:00 SO WE HAVE

THAT ACTUAL REQUIRED AMOUNT OF

SLEEP?

>> THERE HAVE BEEN A FEW PILOT

PROJECTS IN ONTARIO, A LOT IN

THE STATES AND A LOT IN THE U.K.

DOING THAT.

AND IT'S BEEN REALLY SUCCESSFUL.

IT'S A GOOD DISCUSSION AND

SOMETHING THAT SHOULD BE UP FOR

DEBATE.

>> Reporter: VERONICA HORSIE,

A CONCERNED PARENT AND CHAIR OF

THE SCHOOL COUNCIL, SAW A NEED

FOR THIS CLASS.

SHE COMES IN AND TALKS TO PEOPLE

REGULARLY.

>> DO YOU KNOW THAT YOU HAVE

HAVE A HORMONAL NIGHT SHIFT AND

WHEN YOU HIT PUBERTY YOU SHIFT

YOUR BODY CLOCK.

SO NATURALLY YOU GET TIRED UP TO

TWO HOURS LATER.

>> Reporter: SHE SAYS THAT

WAKING STUDENTS UP TO THE

IMPORTANCE OF SLEEP IS A START

BUT IT'S PARENTS WHO NEED TO GET

THE MESSAGE.

>> WELL, I THINK THAT, NUMBER

ONE, ADULTS NEED TO MODEL IT.

I THINK THAT US OURSELVES, WE'RE

BAD EXAMPLES.

I THINK THAT WE PUSH THE LIMITS

AND WE DON'T GET ENOUGH SLEEP

AND WE'RE IRRITABLE AND WE'RE

MOODY.

MOST PEOPLE THINK OF IT AS A

TEENAGER'S RESPONSIBILITY TO GET

THEIR SLEEP.

THERE'S A LOT OF TRUTH TO THAT.

THEY CAN CONTROL THEIR DEVICES

AND THINGS LIKE THAT.

BUT I THINK THAT PARENTS, YOU

KNOW, JUST WANT IT TO HAPPEN

OVERNIGHT AND IT'S NOT GOING TO.

>> EVERYTHING CATCHES UP WITH

SOMEONE AT ONE POINT OR ANOTHER.

IT WILL 100% CATCH UP WITH ME AT

A LATER DATE.

BUT RIGHT NOW I JUST HAVE TO

FOCUS ON THE PRESENT AND, SADLY,

NOT THE FUTURE.

>> IT'S NOT THE GREATEST BECAUSE

I DO WANT TO GET AN EDUCATION

AND I DO WANT TO BE AWAKE FOR MY

CLASSES AND

TO BE ABLE TO PASS TO GET INTO

MY FUTURE GOALS IN LIFE.

>> I OFTEN SAY TONIGHT I'LL TRY

TO GET SLEEP.

TOMORROW I'LL BE ABLE TO GET

EVERYTHING DONE.

I'LL REMEMBER EVERYTHING.

BUT, OF COURSE, TOMORROW I'M

JUST GOING TO BE REALLY TIRED

AND I DON'T GET STUFF DONE.

AND I FEEL THE SAME.

I REALLY WISH I COULD GET MORE

SLEEP.

>> Reporter: WHEN THE SCHOOL

DAY IS FINALLY DONE, HANNAH IS

WORN OUT.

SLEEP SEEMS AN IMPOSSIBLE DREAM.

BUT TALKING ABOUT SOLUTIONS IS A

FIRST STEP.

NOW THE HARD PART IS GETTING A

GOOD NIGHT'S REST.

OF THAT STUFF.

SO WE HAVE BEEN GIVEN THESE

HANDY MAPS TO TRY TO FIND OUR

WAY AROUND AND EVERYTHING.

IT TAKES SOME GETTING USED TO,

BUT I THINK THAT WE'LL MANAGE.

>> Ian: AND LATER THIS WEEK ON

"THE NATIONAL," ADRIENNE SITS

DOWN WITH ONE OF "TIME"

MAGAZINE'S PERSON OF THE YEAR.

JOURNALIST MARIARESSA.

HERE'S A PREVIEW...

>> Adrienne: IT WAS ONE THING

TO KNOW THAT SHE WAS CHOSEN BY

"TIME" AS A GUARDIAN OF THE

TRUTH AND QUITE ANOTHER FOR

MARIA

RESSA TO REALIZE THAT EVERY

OTHER HONOURED JOURNALIST, LIKE

JAMAL KHASHOGGI, HAD BEEN

MURDERED OR JAILED.

>> I WAS THE ONLY ONE OF THE

FOUR THAT WAS ALIVE AND FREE.

I WENT THROUGH A LOT OF

EMOTIONS.

>> Adrienne: THERE'S A LOT OF

REASONS TO BE AFRAID.

THE DUTERTE GOVERNMENT IS TRYING

TO JAIL HER.

BUT SHE PUSHES AHEAD, EXPOSING

SOCIAL MEDIA NETWORKS THAT

SPREAD LIES

AND HATE AND DAMAGE DEMOCRACIES.

HER WARNING TO CANADA THIS

YOU'RE NOT IMMUNE.

THE ONLY WORLD LEADER THAT

NOW THAT IT'S BEEN RESOLVED, AT

LEAST TEMPORARILY, THE U.S.

INVITED TRUMP TO SPEAK ON

FEBRUARY 5th TO A JOINT

HE TOLD REPORTERS THAT HE'S

FULLY BRIEFED ON THE

NEW INFORMATION ABOUT THE

INVESTIGATION COMES AS NEW

TODAY WHICH WOULD REQUIRE

MUELLER TO DELIVER HIS FINDINGS

TO CONGRESS AND THE PUBLIC.

>>> IN HOUSTON, FIVE POLICE

OFFICERS ARE IN HOSPITAL TONIGHT

THE BORDER WITH NORTHERN

>> Andrew: SOME CUSTOMERS OF

CANADA'S BIGGEST BANK ARE UPSET

OVER AN ERROR INVOLVING THEIR

MORTGAGES.

R.B.C. TOLD THEM THEY WERE

SIGNING UP FOR WHAT THE BANK

CALLED "AN ACCELERATED PAYMENT"

WHICH ALLOWED THEM TO PAY DOWN

THEIR MORTGAGE FASTER.

BUT NOW AS AARON SALTZMAN

EXPLAINS, R.B.C. SAYS THAT IS

NOT WHAT THE CUSTOMERS

ACTUALLY SIGNED UP FOR.

>> Reporter: WITH TWO YOUNG

CHILDREN AND A VERY FULL HOUSE,

LIFE FOR NATALIE FLOYD IS HECTIC

ENOUGH.

BUT RECENTLY IT BECAME EVEN MORE

COMPLICATED.

>> THIS IS NEW TO ME OF SOMEBODY

SELLING ME SOMETHING AND THEN

TELLING ME, WELL, IT'S NOT

REALLY WHAT WE TOLD YOU.

>> Reporter: LAST SPRING WHEN

SHE AND HER HUSBAND RENEWED THE

MORTGAGE ON THEIR HOME THEY

SIGNED UP FOR WHAT R.B.C. CALLED

AN ACCELERATED BIWEEKLY PAYMENT.

THAT IS A HIGHER PAYMENT THAT

SHORTENS THE AMMORTIZATION

PERIOD, ALLOWING YOU TO PAY OFF

THE HOUSE MORE QUICKLY.

AND THEN LAST FALL SHE GOT A

LETTER FROM THE BANK.

>> IT HAS COME TO OUR ATTENTION

THAT SOME LANGUAGE IN THE

AGREEMENT THAT YOU SIGNED WHEN

YOU RENEWED YOUR MORTGAGE MAY

HAVE BEEN UNCLEAR.

>> Reporter: THE LETTER SAID

THAT

THAT HER AGREEMENT STATED THAT

YOUR PAYMENT TYPE WAS

ACCELERATED EVEN THOUGH THE

MORTGAGE PAYMENT YOU CHOSE WAS

NOT AN ACCELERATED PAYMENT TYPE.

IT EXPLAINED THAT FLOYD'S PAY

PAYMENT

AND AMMORTIZATION PERIOD WAS

CORRECT AND WOULD NOT CHANGE.

FLOYD SAID HAD THEY KNOWN THAT

THERE WAS

A BIWEEKLY OPTION, THEY WOULD

HAVE CHOSEN IT AND SAVED

INTEREST IN THE LONG RUN.

>> THAT'S HOW I KIND OF FEEL

ABOUT IT IS THAT IT WAS

DECEPTIVE.

>> Reporter: R.B.C. DECLINED

AN INTERVIEW REQUEST.

IT ISSUED A STATEMENT SAYING "A

LIMITED NUMBER OF CLIENTS'

MORTGAGE PAYMENTS WERE

INCORRECTLY LABELED.

THE PAYMENTS, TERMS AND

AMMORTIZATION PERIODS REMAIN THE

ONES THEY SELECTED."

R.B.C. WOULDN'T SAY HOW MANY

PEOPLE WERE AFFECTED BUT THEY

SAID IT REGRETS ANY CLIENT

INCONVENIENCE.

THE GOVERNMENT REGULATOR THAT IS

SUPPOSED TO LOOK OUT FOR

CONSUMERS WHEN THEY HAVE

DISPUTES WITH THEIR BANK REFUSED

TO COMMENT, CITING AN OBLIGATION

TO MAINTAIN CONFIDENTIALITY.

CRITICS SAY THAT'S NOT GOOD

ENOUGH.

>> UNFORTUNATELY, IT LEAVES

CONSUMERS THINKING THAT NOBODY

CARES ABOUT THEM.

>> Reporter: THAT'S HOW

NATALIE FLOYD IS FEELING.

>> IT'S REALLY HARD TO KNOW WHAT

TO DO NOW WHEN YOU GO TO RENEW.

BECAUSE, LIKE, WHO DO YOU

>> Andrew: I'VE GOT TO SAY

THAT I JUST FEEL FOR THOSE POOR

M.P.s.

I LOVE THE EARLIER ANALOGY THAT

IT'S LIKE THE FIRST DAY OF

SCHOOL, BECAUSE WE HAVE ALL BEEN

THERE AND WE CAN ALL RELATE OF

STRUGGLING TO FIND YOUR WAY

EXCEPT FOR THEM THE ADDED

PROBLEM IS THAT PEOPLE LIKE US

ARE WATCHING THEM AND FILMING

THEM AND THEN AIRING THE VIDEO

ON NATIONAL TV AND, THEN, SAY,

TALKING ABOUT IT ON "THE

MOMENT."

YOU REALLY FEEL FOR THEM.

>> Ian: I THOUGHT IT WAS

INTERESTING TO

WATCH THE M.P.s IN THOSE CLIPS

AND THEY SEEMED NORMAL.

YOU KNOW, WE'RE SO USED TO

SEEING THE ADVERSARIAL

GIVE-AND-TAKE IN THE SCRUM AND

SO WHAT YOU SEE ALL THE TIME,

ROSEMARY, JUST ORDINARY PEOPLE

IN A NEW SITUATION.

MY FAVOURITE THING ABOUT THE NEW

PLACE THAT THEY'RE IN IS THE NEW

PRIME MINISTER OR THE

TEMPORARY'S PRIME MINISTER'S

OFFICE HAS A SECRET STAIRCASE

THAT ALEXANDER MACKENZIE

PUT IN SO HE COULD SNEAK THIS

WAY OUT OF HIS OFFICE.

I JUST LOVE THE IDEA OF A SECRET

STAIRCASE.

>> Rosemary: AND THE OTHER

OFFICE HAD THIS SECRET AREA

WHERE THEY PUT TVs BEFORE BUT

SOMETIMES THE PRIME MINISTER

WOULD STICK ONE OF HIS KIDS IN

THERE.

Beer Onion Bagels - Duration: 5:55.

Today we're making beer onion bagels.

[ music ]

Come on in welcome to my home

I'm going to make for you one of my favorite lunchtime things which is

A beer onion bagel this is so good

Bagels are so easy to make I've made them before but never done the beer onion until recently and

I've been messing around with this recipe for quite a while

simply because on a cold day what better thing to have is than a beer onion bagel.

These are so good I am using my Cuisinart. you can do these by hand,

but it's really easy in a bread maker because you sort of get that nice

texture to it don't worry about over kneading it because their bagels bagels are chewy.

but let's begin all the ingredients will flash up on the screen

there and they're also listed down below in the description

now remember if this is your first time here.

remember to subscribe hit that like button and also

ring that bell so that we get notifications when I do new videos.

All right let's start with the liquid now you should put your ingredients into

your bread maker the way the manufacturer tells you but I'm going to

start off with my beer.

[pour sound ]

my beer has been warmed.

To that I will add my flour

[ pouring sound ]

I made a little well in there for my yeast

I'll sprinkle the sugar around

these are dehydrated minced onions. Now you can use

regular dehydrated onions, chopped dehydrated onions,

but I found the dehydrated onions work better than just regular onions simply because it adds

more water to the mixture if you do use regular onions you are going to have to

play around with the liquid that you add but dehydrate it it's just wonderful .

So I'm going to pour those in there and then the salt now I used to think that

salt killed the Yeast.

It doesn't kill the yeast it actually just sort of slows

down the whole rising process

Now I'm going to take a good portion of salt and

then sprinkle it around

I'm using sea salt

you can use table salt if you use table salt you'll use a little bit more table

salt than sea salt

I'm going to put this into my bread maker .

Set it on the dough setting

And then start it's that easy now all we have to do is wait for it to

go through the dough cycle

[ mixing sound ]

Our dough is done it's gone through the dough cycle

I'm going to punch it down.

Then take it out of the pan.

You can definitely smell the onions and the beer

I have a lightly floured mat here

Now here's the fun part

I'm just going to slightly knead this

and then divide it into eight about the same size balls

These don't have to be perfect

and I have found that the first time that I made these

I made them too big then

roll them.

Now on my pan I have

cornmeal

I lightly sprinkled cornmeal on the pan so that that way these things

don't stick because they want to stick

I'm going to roll them into a ball

Then taking my finger

poke a hole through the center

and place it on the pan that's all

there is to this part that's why I didn't go through all the big thing of

you know flouring the flouring the counter because this way I can just wipe

off any excess flour

and I'm only going to put four on per pan

simply because these will rise.

these will rise a lot

Yes you can work way harder than what I am

to make these more even

but you don't have to.

Once you have your bagels formed

you're just going to take a cloth

cover them and then put them in a nice

draft-free place for about an hour 45 minutes to an hour it's up to you.

Now I like to go for about an hour simply because...

it's easy to remember an hour

So after an hour we'll come back for the next step

in a pan of boiling water add one tablespoon of baking soda

boil the bagels for one minute on each side.

Then bake them in a 425-degree oven for 15 to 18 minutes.

Our bagels are done now I let mine brown more because all I do is toast mine in the oven when I use them.

The toaster doesn't really get them as brown as they should.

You can let the yours brown as long as you want if you toast yours in the oven

Then you're going to want to go for a less amount of time

wondering why I have the knife? Right.

Well these aren't split bagels normally I let these cool

[ cutting sound ]

However today we're gonna eat this fresh out of the oven and look at that.

That looks amazing

Let me give this a taste

That has the perfect bagel texture

and has this wonderful crunch to it on the outside

Nice and soft on the inside

The beer and onion just mix incredibly well

this is so good

Why pierce ears? Tamil | Channel Om - Duration: 5:29.

Namaste people. Welcome to Channel Om.

I am Uma Maheswarri

In this channel we discuss about our culture and the meaning behind it.

So have you ever thought

Why we pierce our ears?

Women do it ok cool

Coz they wear earings

But what about boys

Why pierce their ears? If you too have the same question stay tuned

To find the answer as I tell you 7 reasons why we pierce our ears.

Let's begin.

So there are some

Religious as well as scientific

Reasons behind it. We'll take a look at both.

So the first one

In our lifetime we do

Recieve a lot of knowledge

And also numerous experiences

It is believed in Hinduism that

If a person does not pierce his/her ears

All that they learnt in this life

Just goes away out from the other ear

Also have you wondered

Why the ear piercing ceremony

Is always carried out in the moe?

Why not in the evening?

This is because it is believed that the sun's ray

Has to enter our ears through the hole pierced

Thus helping us restore our knowledge

And that is the first reason

As to why

We pierce our ears

And that too in the morning.

Let's move on to the second reason.

So another belief in Hinduism is that

A person cannot perform the rituals

Of death when his/her parents

Pass away. It has not been mentioned

What's wrong in performing the rituals when your

Ear is not pierced, but it is a sin.

Inspite of this

If a person without

Piercing his/her ears

Performs the rituals of death

They are considered

As being equal

To a demon.

So it's just better

To pierce your ears!

And that was the second reason

Why you should pierce your ears.

Third one.

In a lot of villages in India, you can find grannys

With a hole larger than the ones in our ears.

The pierced holes are constantly enlargened

From time to time.

Thia is because it is believed that

By doing so we can

Listen to our inner voice better and clear.

Also it helps us to, hear

What our angels and spirits are

Communicating to us.

It helps us to be

Claireaudient.

So that was the thied reason.

Fourth reason.

Now the ones we'll be discussing

Are the scientific reasons.

So the point of ear piercing

Is an accupuncture point

Hence it helps in better blood circulation.

Let's move on to the fifth one.

Now there is a direct connection

Between our ears and our reproductive system

There is also a saying in Tamil!Nadu

That a person cannot get married

Until his ears are pierced.

Also it's proven scientifically

That a nerve in the ear

Is connected to our reproductive system.

Hence piercing our ears

Helps in better reproduction.

It also enables the smooth flow of

Reproductikn to take place.

Not just that but

It also helps to regulate the

Menstrual cycle for women

And as well as it helps in

Regulating the electricity in our body.

Let's move on to number six.

Like the ear is connected to our reproductive organs

Similarly it is also connected

To our brain.

Due to this it helps us

To clear any kind of confusion

And it helps us take the

Right and best decision.

Thus increasing decision making power.

Number seven.

This is a very simple one.

Piercing our ears protects us from

Diseases like hernia and hysteria.

With that we come to the end of the video

I hope you liked it

How to Use Peerless Safety Release Lever Load Binders - Duration: 2:58.

Lever binders are known for their speed and simplicity. However, they aren't the safest to operate.

The Safety Release Lever Load Binder offers a much safer alternative to users due to its unique design.

In today's video, we'll talk about the Safety Release Lever Load Binder, its features, and how you can safely operate it for your application.

The Safety Release Lever Load Binder features a unique design that eliminates the possibility of kickback from the binder when releasing the load.

Unlike traditional lever binders which can kickback violently when released under tension,

the Safety Release Lever Binders design allows the user to easily release the load since the center of the binders body independently rotates free of the handle.

The Safety Release Lever Binder has a yellow powder-coated finish with drop-forged hooks which have size and grade markings forged into the hook.

The working load limit of 5,400 pounds is marked on the handle.

The binder is available to fit chain sizes 5/16 to 3/8 in both Grade 43 and Grade 70 chain.

Before operating, be sure to check and follow your equipments manual and all transportation regulations for the jurisdictions for which you'll be traveling.

We've also posted a link to the Federal Drivers Handbook for Cargo Securement in the description below.

To begin operation, open the lever binder and attach the binder to the binding chain while taking up as much slack as possible.

With your arms fully extended, use two hands to grab the top of the binder handle and pull the handle backwards until it has been completely closed and sets into place.

This process may need to be repeated if the chain is not at the desired tension.

Wrap any remaining chain around the binder handle and secure the loose end with a zip tie.

To remove and release the binder, slowly pull upwards on the binder handle until the tension has been released, and then remove the binder from the chain.

For a full video with more information on proper load binding techniques, please click the link to the video that we posted below.

You can also visit our website and view the blog post that we've made on there.

As always, we hope this video has answered any questions or concerns you might have about the use of the Safety Release Lever Load Binder.

We'd also like to give special thanks to Chauvin Brothers Tractor located in Belle Chasse, Louisiana for allowing us to film at their facility.

I'm Tyler with E-Rigging.

Thanks for watching.
