Waching daily Dec 1 2018

Let's start at the G20 Summit in Argentina.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in and U.S. President Donald Trump have held talks on

the sidelines of the summit.

North Korea dominated most of their discussion.

Shin Se-min has our top story.

The leaders of South Korea and the United States in tune on North Korea.

Presidents Moon Jae-in and Donald Trump sat down on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in

Argentina on Friday for a frank discussion with just their translators in attendance.

They vowed to align their policies to ensure the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula

remains on track.

"President Trump, while affirming his commitment to hold a second North Korea-U.S. summit early

next year,... asked that South Korea and the U.S. maintain close cooperation so the summit

will be another historic milestone in the process of denuclearizing North Korea."

President Moon's chief press secretary explained that President Trump reaffirmed his pledge

to hold a second summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un,... and noted that Kim's

planned reciprocal visit to Seoul may create new momentum in efforts to denuclearize Pyeongyang

and establish peace in the region.

Although the two did not go into details on when Kim might travel to the South,... it's

viewed that Kim's visit would help the ongoing push for peace.

The Blue House official said the question now is on whether the North Korean leader

sticks to his pledge.

On North Korea sanctions,...

Presidents Moon and Trump agreed that keeping the regime under already imposed sanctions

is necessary until the Korean Peninsula is completely denuclearized.

While the two allies share the goal of complete denuclearization,... their approach on how

to achieve it isn't in lockstep.

Seoul has been pushing to improve ties with Pyeongyang through economic engagement,...

while Washington has been pursuing a dual policy of pressure and dialogue which has

caused friction between the North and the U.S.

"The meeting between Presidents Moon and Trump was a chance to reopen the possibility of

Kim Jong-un visiting Seoul by the years' end-- in the hope that it could give the stalled

denuclearization process another push.

Shin Se-min, Arirang News, Buenos Aires."

How to Say "it's Greek to me" in Chinese, Japanese and Korean? - Duration: 2:54.

What's up everyone? This week's Youtube video for 3 Languages in 3 Minutes

would be an expression for "It's Greek to me or Talking to a Brick".

Let's find out how each of the three East Asian countries

expresses "It's Greek to me" in Chinese, Japanese and Korean.

对牛弹琴, 對牛彈琴 (Duìniútánqín)

In Chinese, "对牛" is to face a cow

"弹琴" is to play the piano. So the four

words put together, the expression means playing the piano to a cow.

During the Warring States Period, a musician named

"公明仪, Gōngmíngyí" came outside to play music.

He found a cow grazing on the grass,

and he started playing his best music piece, yet the cow

went away after grazing about a few minutes.

To the disappointed musician, people said

"It was not because your performance was bad. It was

because your music was played in the ear of the cow."

Thus, the expression"对牛弹琴" came into

being to describe a situation or someone

where no matter how much was said, people do not simply understand.

馬の耳に念仏, うまのみみにねんぶつ (Umano Mimini Nenbutsu)

In Japanese, "馬の耳に念仏"

literally means reading a Buddhist scripture to a horse.

As you would already have guessed,"馬" means a horse

and "耳" means the ear.

"念仏"is a Buddhist word for reading Buddhist scripts

while thinking of Buddha.

Buddhist script is difficult enough for any person to understand.

And someone is trying to read Buddhist scripts to a horse,

and how is the horse supposed to understand?

Thus, this expression came to denote something that is totally not understandable in Japanese.

소 귀에 경 읽기 (So gwie gyeong ilg-gi)

In Korean, "소 귀에 경 읽기" literally

means reading a Buddhist scriptures to a cow.

It is exactly the same structure as Japanese

in that "소" is a cow

"귀" is the ear and "경 읽기"

is to read Buddhist scripts in different wording.

Korean is just a bit different from the Japanese in that

it is reading Buddhist scripts to a cow instead of horse.

It is also very similar with Chinese in that cow is the audience.

Well, the three countries really do share similarities.

We have covered how "It's Greek to me or Talking to a Brick"

is expressed in the three East Asian countries.

"对牛弹琴" in Chinese,

"馬の耳に念仏" in Japanese and

"소 귀에 경 읽기" in Korean.

Remember that Koreans and Chinese use cows as the audience of reading scripts

and playing piano while Japanese read a Buddhist scripture to a horse!

Next time, I will cover "The End Justifies the Means".

SCP-611 Parasitic Toothpick | Euclid class | parasite / insect / body horror scp - Duration: 5:31.

SCP-611 Parasitic Toothpick - object class euclid

Item #: SCP-611

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-611 must be sealed within its specified enclosure at

all times.

SCP-611 should be provided with one piece of rotting meat per week, as per dietary standards.

Current information suggests that beef tongue, aged at room temperature for roughly two weeks,

provides the best nutritional results while limiting breeding.

A technician specializing in insecta must maintain the enclosure.

Technicians performing maintenance on the enclosure must wear full biohazard suits to

prevent possible infestation.

While performing any maintenance, the temperature should be lowered to 10°C, which will lower

the activity level of SCP-611 significantly.

After maintenance has completed, biohazard suits must be completely sterilized and cleaned.

Following Incident 611-1, SCP-611 has been relocated to a lower level.

No food products may be allowed on the same containment level as SCP-611.

Description: SCP-611 was first discovered in ██████, New Mexico in 20██.

A group of tourists recently returning from ███████ contacted a local dentist

concerning severe tooth and jaw pain.

The doctor, discovering the infestation, contacted the Center for Disease Control, at which time

the Foundation stepped in and took over.

After extracting the larvae from the tourist group, Foundation operatives traced SCP-611

back to the ██████████ restaurant, which had unwittingly played host to them

for over a month.

Class-A Amnestics were administered to all restaurant employees and all infected patrons

that could be located.

Most larvae were removed in time, though some had already caused extensive damage.

Over ██ deaths caused by subsequent infection were believed to have occurred.

SCP-611 is a previously undiscovered subspecies of Dermatobia hominis, the human botfly.

It camouflages itself, appearing as a common toothpick, and will attempt to land near or

actually in a supply of the objects, at which point it will shed its wings and enter a passive

state.

It can remain in this dormant condition for up to forty days before cessation of life

signs.

SCP-611 will lay eggs in the gums of a subject when used.

Hosts notice no signs of invasion until four to seven days later when the eggs hatch and

burrow into the jaw, causing severe discomfort.

The larvae cause sharp, continual pain and, if left untreated, can cause death by opening

wounds for infection.

The larvae will eventually consume enough to enter a pupae stage unseen in other botflies.

Its body will harden and lengthen, eventually punching through the skin of the host.

At this point, SCP-611 will take to the air and search for others of its kind with which

to mate.

The primary adult stage of SCP-611's life only lasts 72 hours at maximum, suggesting

that there may be a larger presence of SCP-611 in ███████ than previously thought.

SCP-611 appears to be hermaphroditic, with no discernible difference between male and

female members of the species.

This is largely unheard of for insects, adding to the suspicion that SCP-611 might not be

a naturally occurring phenomenon.

The highly specific nature of SCP-611's adaptation to an invention only in use for

a few hundred years is also highly suspect.

Further testing is recommended to determine if this is a natural case of expedited evolution

or a case of an engineered species.

Incident Report 611-1: On █████ ██, 20██, proper sterilization procedures of biohazard

suit were not fully observed, and three members of SCP-611's enclosure escaped containment.

Two were discovered tapping against the enclosure's glass observing room, apparently attempting

to rejoin, but the third was not discovered until it had already made its way to Break

Room 13.

The subsequent population generated by the initial infestation caused █ deaths and

over ██ cases of severe mandible trauma.

SCP-611 was subsequently relocated to a lower level with no break rooms or mess halls to

limit possible accidental exposures.

Individuals who suspect a possible breach should immediately report to Dr. █████ for

oral examination and anti-parasitic treatment.

N. Korean soldier defected to South Korea early Saturday: S. Korean military - Duration: 0:31.

A North Korean soldier has defected to South Korea, crossing the Military Demarcation Line

in the Demilitarized Zone.

Seoul's Joint Chiefs of Staff says the soldier was spotted by the South's military surveillance

equipment at around eight AM, Korea time.

The soldier is in good health and the relevant authorities are investigating how and why

he fled.

This comes as the two Koreas are in the process of reducing tensions at the border by removing

20 front-line guard posts and land mines.
