Stark industries!

I've got one recommendation! Ready? Ready?

Sell, sell, sell!

Abandon ship!

Does the Hindenburg ring any bells?

Let me show you the new Stark Industries business plan!

Look, that's a weapons company that doesn't make weapons!

Pepper. How big are your hands?

- What? - How big are your hands?

- I don't understand why... - Get down here. I need you.

Hey.

Let's see them. Show me your hands.

Let's see them.

Oh, wow. They are small. Very petite, indeed.

I just need your help for a sec.

Oh, my God, is that the thing that's keeping you alive?

It was. It is now an antique.

This is what will be keeping me alive for the foreseeable future.

I'm swapping it up for an upgraded unit, and I just ran into a little speed bump.

- Speed bump, what does that mean? - It's nothing. It's just a little snag.

There's an exposed wire under this device.

And it's contacting the socket wall and causing a little bit of a short.

It's fine.

- What do you want me to do? - Put that on the table over there.

- That is irrelevant. - Oh, my God!

I want you to reach in, and you're just gonna gently lift the wire out.

- Is it safe? - Yeah, it should be fine.

It's like Operation. You just don't let it touch

the socket wall or it goes "beep."

- What do you mean, "Operation"? - It's just a game, never mind.

- Just gently lift the wire. Okay? Great. - Okay.

You know, I don't think that I'm qualified to do this.

No, you're fine. You're the most capable, qualified,

trustworthy person I've ever met. You're gonna do great.

Is it too much of a problem to ask? 'Cause I'm...

- Okay, okay. - I really need your help here.

Okay.

Oh, there's pus!

It's not pus. It's an inorganic plasmic discharge from the device,

- not from my body. - It smells!

Yeah, it does.

The copper wire. The copper wire, you got it?

- Okay, I got it! I got it! - Okay, you got it?

Now, don't let it touch the sides when you're coming out!

I'm sorry. I'm sorry.

That's what I was trying to tell you before.

Okay, now make sure that when you pull it out, you don't...

There's a magnet at the end of it! That was it. You just pulled it out.

- Oh, God! - Okay, I was not expecting...

- Don't put it back in! Don't put it back in! - Okay, what do I do?

What's wrong?

Nothing, I'm just going into cardiac arrest

'cause you yanked it out like a trout...

- What? You said it was safe! - We gotta hurry. Take this. Take this.

- You gotta switch it out really quick. - Okay. Okay.

- Tony? It's going to be okay. - What?

- Is it? - It's gonna be okay.

- I'm gonna make this okay. - Let's hope.

Okay, you're gonna attach that to the base plate. Make sure you...

Was that so hard? That was fun, right? Here, I got it. I got it. Here.

Nice.

- Are you okay? - Yeah, I feel great.

You okay?

Don't ever, ever, ever,

ever ask me to do anything like that ever again.

I don't have anyone but you.

Anyway...

- What do you want me to do with this? - That?

Destroy it.

Incinerate it.

You don't want to keep it?

Pepper, I've been called many things. "Nostalgic" is not one of them.

- Will that be all, Mr. Stark? - That will be all, Miss Potts.

Hey, Butterfingers, come here.

What's all this stuff doing on top of my desk?

That's my phone, that's a picture of me and my dad.

Right there. In the garbage. All that stuff.

UW HFS | A Dawg's Vlog // A Day In The Life & What's In My Backpack - Duration: 7:32.

Hey everyone, it's Hannah back with A Dawg's Vlog. And in this vlog I'm gonna be showing you what a day looks like here for me

at UW, and also give you an inside look at what's in my bag and

what I carry around in my backpack, just to give you an idea of what an average college student

uses on a day-to-day basis, and maybe even give you some ideas about what you should be carrying around too.

So, let's get started.

Good morning. I just woke up and got ready for my morning class.

I'm really excited to show you guys what I do in a day. First,

I'm gonna head to my morning class and take my midterm.

I just got out of my morning class, and I took my midterm, and now

I'm headed to my FIG, which is a

first-year interest group. It's for freshmen, and it's basically just a general studies class that helps you get adapted to UW and

Seattle. And I definitely recommend taking it, because

all the people that are in my FIG are also in my other classes, so it kind of creates a good study group

and also instant friends.

So the event I was just at was called Pupcakes. And it was in the HUB. And so I got to see some

assistance dogs from the program called Summit Assistance Dogs. And

then I also got to get a cupcake, and I grabbed an extra one to go.

And it was really cool to just get to play with the dogs for a couple minutes and also support a really good cause.

So usually on

Thursdays I eat at Husky Den in the HUB, which is what I did. I went to Crafted, and I got a sandwich. And now

I'm headed to my afternoon class, and I'll see you guys after.

I'm here on West Campus, and I'm about to go into UW Housing & Food Services to get some work done for today.

So right now I'm sitting at my desk over here in the Communications-Marketing area of

HFS, and this is what my desk kind of looks like.

It's where all the student workers sit.

This is where I keep all my vlogs organized. You can see right now, I'm working on number four. So we're gonna put some of the videos I've done today into there.

This is the bag that I keep the camera in, and the mini-tripod, called the

GorillaPod, in, so I keep it in there. And then this is where I keep the ring light,

which is actually right here. It's not turned on right now.

And it just provides better lighting for when I film in my room.

And this is the GorillaPod that I use. So it has these bendy legs,

unlike a normal tripod,

so you can kind of move it around

like squish it together to hold it better or

it can also just be set up like a tripod on a desk. And it's small, easy to carry around,

and it's great for filming vlogs.

I'm here in my room right now. And I just got back from work, and I wanted to do a little look in what I

keep in my bag. So the first thing that I keep in my bag is my laptop. And

so I use it because every day in class my professors go kind of fast, so it's easier for me to

type the

notes on my laptop. And then when I get home, I write them in a notebook for each class.

Speaking of notebooks, here's one of the notebooks I like to use.

Another thing I carry in my backpack is a blue book and a Scantron. And you can actually get these from

the District Market, which is really cool. This is my cute, little

pencil pouch. Here's some, like, gel pens that I like to use. I have this mini stapler

that I carry with me everywhere I go, because during the first week of school here at UW,

an upperclassman told me you will make a ton of friends if

something is due in class, and you're the only one with a stapler. The next thing is my planner.

I love my planner. I use it every day, and it honestly keeps me super organized. It has, like, the

month layout first,

which is really nice. But then it also has like week by week, so I can kind of write what

I have to do every day. One of the things I never leave my room without is my keychain. And it has

my ID on it. There it is, look at my ID. And the cool thing is, it has this

cardholder. It's like super-hard plastic, and

it slides up and, like, puts my card out. And then it's also like more durable than kind of the flimsy, like,

soft plastic. It's awesome. You can actually buy this cardholder from

the

office where you get your ID card, your Husky Card. And last but not least, I carry around my W thermos that

HFS gave us at the beginning of the year. And it's really great because I can fill it up before class with just water, or

I can go to like Husky Grind and fill it up with a discount for using the mug.

And so that's just a look at what's in my bag.

Loree, Cyril and I are making cookies. We're in the lounge right now.

And there's some guys playing some video games. But they left, so it looks really weird right now.

I just took a shower, and I got back from the lounge where we made cookies and studied together.

And we also got to play video games with some of the guys in our hall. And

so every night,

I like to take a shower till I kind of rinse off the day, and then I relax in my room

by playing on my phone or my laptop and kind of just chilling out after my busy day.

I hope you all enjoyed my video today of what it's like here on a daily basis for me, and also an

inside look at what I carry around in my backpack.

And make sure to subscribe below and also give our video some likes. And I'll see you guys next time, bye.

People can Inherit Mitochondrial DNA from Both Parents | SciShow News - Duration: 6:30.

Everybody knows that the DNA you inherit from each biological parent is an even split...

I mean, hopefully everybody knows: you get half from the egg and half from the sperm that combines to make you.

Well, almost.

37 genes are found in your mitochondria, those little energy factories of cells.

And that mitochondrial DNA only comes from the egg.

At least, that's what we thought.

Earlier this week, an international team of researchers announced that they'd found

strong evidence that mitochondrial DNA can be inherited from both parents.

Which could change what we know about not only disease inheritance, but like... human history as a whole.

It all started with a 4-year-old boy that doctors suspected of having a mitochondrial disorder

—a disease caused by mutations in mitochondrial DNA.

They're tricker to diagnose and treat than other genetic diseases because every cell in the body has several hundred mitochondria,

and not all of them have the same DNA.

Because mitochondrial disorders are complicated and don't always show up in tissue samples or fluid tests,

the only way to diagnose one with absolute certainty is with DNA sequencing.

And when they sequenced this boy's mitochondrial DNA, they found a peculiar pattern of mutant genes.

His mother and sisters had the same pattern, which is exactly what you'd expect,

and since none of them have a mitochondrial disorder, the mutations don't seem to explain his condition.

But the pattern just stood out so much that the team decided to test the boy's grandparents, too.

That was when they made a discovery that was previously thought to be impossible:

only some of his mother's mutation pattern matched her mother's.

The rest clearly matched up to the boy's grandfather.

Even stranger, when they tested the grandfather's female relatives,

they discovered that his pattern of mitochondrial mutations could also be traced to both of his parents.

To confirm their findings, the researchers recruited two other,

unrelated families with suspected mitochondrial disorders, and had their mitochondrial DNA sequenced.

And astonishingly, they found similar patterns.

Some family members had inherited mitochondrial variants from just their mothers, and some had inherited them from both parents.

This isn't the first study to suggest bi-parental inheritance of mitochondria.

Back in 2002, Danish researchers published a report of a man with a mitochondrial disorder he appeared to have inherited from his father.

Their results were independently verified by Harvard researchers,

who also uncovered potential evidence that mitochondrial DNA could recombine, or mix just like regular DNA.

But in the past decade and a half, no other cases have been reported despite quite a bit of effort to find them.

So the whole idea of bi-parental mitochondrial inheritance — and especially questions of recombination — has remained a contentious topic in genetics circles.

This time, though, the researchers made absolutely certain that their results were correct:

they looked at dozens of people in three multi-generation families, used incredibly sensitive testing

methods, and had new DNA samples re-sequenced at two other labs, just to be sure.

And they wouldn't have found any of this if they'd stopped looking once they sequenced the boy's mom and sisters,

which is what many doctors would have done since the mutations were inherited as expected and don't appear to be the cause of his ailment.

If the idea that people can sometimes inherit mitochondria from both parents doesn't seem like a big deal,

consider that mitochondrial DNA is one of the best ways we have to trace the history of our species over centuries.

Since it doesn't change much from generation to generation, the small changes that do show up in isolated groups

—like populations of people living on different continents—

can be used to track where people came from and how they moved around.

And the changes are thought to happen at a somewhat reliable rate, allowing us to estimate how long ago groups of people split from others.

But all the math involved assumes that mitochondrial DNA comes only from the egg—which, it seems, isn't always the case.

In fact, based on the findings, the authors of the paper suspect babies might get some mitochondria from sperm as often as one in every 5,000 births.

And if that's true — or if it turns out that mitochondrial DNA can recombine, as those Harvard researchers suggested — then all bets are off.

The study authors, for their part, don't think their findings completely change things—

there isn't enough evidence, yet, to overturn decades of research into human origins.

But it's early in the discovery process, and it could be years before we really understand how all this messes with ancestry analyses or our understanding of human history.

More immediately, this study will likely affect how doctors approach the genetic component to treating mitochondrial disorders,

especially since the team has a hypothesis for how this bizarre inheritance happened.

At first, both parents contribute mitochondrial DNA to a developing fetus, but when the egg is fertilized,

a mitochondrial-killing mechanism makes sure any mitochondria from the sperm get wiped from the slate.

The researchers think that there might be a mutation in a nuclear gene

— that is, a gene somewhere in the main set of chromosomes we think of as a person's genome —

that's stopping that key step in development.

If such a mutation exists, it could be passed down through a family, leading to the mitochondrial DNA pattern they saw.

The researchers are hoping further studies will reveal exactly how the mitochondrial DNA from sperm survives.

Knowing that will help us understand how commonly it happens, and it may help us figure out how to stop it from happening—

perhaps preventing some mitochondrial disorders.

It could even reveal a way to prevent disease-causing mitochondria from the egg from being passed on.

But all of that is speculation at this point.

Until those future studies are done, we won't know whether the new findings will change our understanding of the history of humanity.

But either way, they're definitely teaching us something new about our cells.

help me - Duration: 6:02.

Hi I'm Jake and whoa...WHOA just back up.

Give me some spaceis.cool.

That was just a way to introduce a website.

In reality I have no personal bubble so if you see me in public just come up and pet

me on the face.

Peferably. This actually kinda feels nice. oooh yeah.

Anyways that's a DONG and here are some more DONGs, things you can do online now guys.

Hey it's been a while since I've seen you.

I mean probably only a few seconds since the intro but I love you so much it felt like

4.6 billion years.

But it wasn't.

What really happened 4.6 billion years ago was Earth's formation.

This is timelineofearth.com and as I said it starts off when our beautiful planet was formed.

Scroll through and see when important events occurred or certain species arrived.

Around 3.8 billion years ago, the first single-celled organisms appeared.

This is pretty widely accepted as of now but there have been suggestions of life dating

back possibly even further.

This website spans 4.6 billion years so I'll let you do some exploring for yourself but

it's pretty dang cool to see things like when certain species evolved or went extinct.

For example at a little over 250 million years ago the Siberian Volcano is thought to have

caused the largest known mass extinction to date.

It killed 70% of land species and kept erupting for about two million years.

Now let's skip ahead to when humans evolved to their modern form.

If you look at how thin this line is in comparison to the whole timeline you can see

we really haven't been around very long at all.

And ya know what's been around for even less time?

Morse code.

Ya wanna learn it?

Well I have two options for you.

One, go watch the DONG with Michael from a few weeks ago on Morse Code or go to

Morse typing trainer.

Michael gave a brief overview of visual mnemonics but mainly focused on verbal mnemonics.

This site gives you visual mnemonics by shaping the dots and dashes to a picture that

starts with the same letter you are learning.

For example, A is one dot and one dash and it fits pretty well with this bow and arrow

or archery which starts with an A. You'll be taken through the same letters for a while

until you get pretty good at them. Which you will because you're not only good looking

But you're a genius.

Then you'll be given new ones to learn.

First go through the practice rounds and then on to the tests.

Don't mess this up.

Make Michael Stevens proud.

He's a...he's my dad.

And ya know, I like to make him proud.

And then make me proud by playing an epic song on

Keyboard.

On this site you can choose between marimba, piano, guitar, synth, strings, and choir.

I'll go for choir.

If 5 notes seems limiting, never fear my friends because you can change it to fifteen.

Huh. 15.

That's how old Michael was when he had me.

Now of course you can just hover your mouse over the notes and do things that way but

I'm not old fashioned so I'm gonna use my body to make these people sing.

By my body I mean Hannah's body.

YEAHHH!!! Go Hannah!

It's quite a bit like that previous DONG sound canvas but the sounds are a lot more

pleasant this time around.

Now that you're in a musical mood check out

LanguageGuesser.

To start the game type in your name or an equally cool name like Tiberius Jake Taco Roper the 3rd.

You will then be given a series of music videos to watch and listen to.

Underneath it there will be four language options.

Your job is to guess which language is being spoken in the video.

You get 3 points for a correct answer on the first try and it won't let you move

on until you guess it correctly.

Maybe you've never heard some of these languages spoken let alone sung but hopefully process

of elimination will help.

And even if you don't score perfectly it's a good way to practice recognizing

other languages which is always a good skill.

Now I'm sure your score will be perfect because you are perfect.

Your face shines like the sun.

But where does the sun shine?

More importantly though where is it directly above?

Head to Under the sun to find out.

This website is constantly changing because the relative position of sun and Earth are

constantly changing.

The latitude and longitude are shown here.

It's likely you can't immediately envision where that is but you can look at the little

globe up here in the left-hand corner.

If you wanna double check that it's true, go to latlong.net, type in the coordinates

and you'll see that it matches. Good job.

Now that we've sculpted ourselves into experts on the sun's position let's just sculpt

with this lump of clay.

It's kind of therapeutic not just because you gain confidence when you create something

like this, but also because it really emulates the texture of actual clay.

Now let's try and make Hannah.

On the right you will be given a drop down menu of different tools to make your masterpiece of Hannah

like inflate to thicken it in a certain spot or smooth to fix it when you mess that up...kind of.

Looking pretty good, Hannah! Wow. Share your Hannah's with Hannah.

Just tweet at the DONG thing and we'll see it.

Anyway, look at that Hannah. What's your Hannah look like? Again send it to the DONG twitter. #ClayHannah.

It's almost as beautiful as the music on bellwoods.xyz.

Just click and hold for this little kite to soar through a field of music.

Ahhh that is Tranquil.

Speaking of tranquil, my friend Austin Evans, who you might know

He's a lovely young man. I've known him since he was about this

tall. You can't see it because the frame cuts off there but

my hand's at a very short distance from the ground.

It's Okay - Preston Frederick - Duration: 4:31.

Here in my sleeping clothes

The first breath I breathe is cold

Trying to get out of bed

Escape the nightmares inside my head

I roll to the other side

I search for the morning light

I'm awake so I hit the snooze

Another day with nothing to lose

It's okay if you're not okay

It's okay to be afraid

Every day is another day

Another day means there's time to change

On my way out the door

Left my clothes on the floor

Managed to leave my keys

Brought my anxieties

Clouds got me feeling blue

Sunshine, now, where are you?

So much to figure out. But,

No time to fix it now

It's okay if you're not okay

It's okay to be afraid

Every day is another day

Another day means there's time to change

It's okay

If you're not okay

Because everyday, you got time to change

Deep down you're hurting

You're lost and you're broken

like furniture tossed from

the roof; tearing open

But hurting is feeling

It's rough but it's real and

It's darkest before dawn you know

Oh, don't you know?

It's okay if you're not okay

It's okay to be afraid

Every day is another day

Another day means there's time to change

Fresh Face: Micaela Diamond of THE CHER SHOW - Duration: 2:23.

--My name is Micaela Diamond and I play Babe in The Cher Show.

I danced everywhere.

When I was three years old on, I pretty much was always up and going. I literally

knew that I wanted to do this from when I was a baby. My mom loves theater and

knows nothing about it, which is the perfect combo. She's the most supportive

person in the entire world. When I was about 10, I kind of grew out of all of my

dance companies where I lived so she opened one herself. She's been kind of

supporting this whole thing for a long time now. I moved to the city when I was

10, so I feel like a true New Yorker now. I loved growing up because I had such a

strong passion, and I think I was growing up in the city where there was always

something brewing. I had auditioned for this right before I was about to leave

for birthright. I went to the audition, almost didn't go, wasn't feeling too hot

that day. And I was going to college in a week, so I was like I don't know how I

feel about this. I also don't want to embarrass myself doing a really shitty

Cher impression in front of a really big casting office. But then my agents forced

me to go.

--Playing babe has kind of been a whirlwind of growth, especially just

because of, like, I'm 19 and discovering who I am by myself. So, adding like Cher

to the equation has made it just a rainbow of growth in sequins. I've met

Cher a few times now. She is a legend. It's funny because I feel like she's my

friend because I've spent so much time with her

on YouTube. I'll be at the gym. Every time I'm on the treadmill, I'm watching a new

episode of Sonny and Cher. It's been like a wild year to know Cher...

--Being a female, queer woman in this world is kind of exciting to be a voice for

people who don't have one. I'm like excited that I get to

that platform and tell this woman's story.
