Is Trump signaling changes in policy toward N. Korea? - Duration: 2:08.

After sharply escalating tensions through months of verbal sparring with Kim Jong-un...,

Donald Trump's latest comments raised eyebrows again.

This time they seem to suggest the American president may be taking a different stance

on the regime and its leader.

Lee Jeong-yeon turned to some experts for their take on the change in tone.

Judging by recent comments from U.S. President Donald Trump, Washington might appear to be

taking a more open stance toward Pyongyang.

Trump said on Thursday, in an interview with the Wall Street Journal, that he probably

has "very good relations" with Kim, stressing that he does indeed have "relationships with

people."

This raises questions about whether a shift is underway in America's North Korea policy,...

since the comments are in stark contrast to his more provocative choice phrases like "fire

and fury," or calling its leader, "little rocket man."

But experts say the latest comments, though different, do not signal a change in policy.

(Korean- ) "Trump changes his words according to the

situation.

So if North Korea refuses to negotiate the nuclear issue or makes another provocation,

his attitude could flip 180 degrees and then we'd see him play the 'more pressure and sanctions'

card."

The expert adds that since the upcoming 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics could be used

as a platform for peaceful dialogue,... Trump's latest comments might be a strategic way of

bringing North Korea to the discussion table.

Also, with the inter-Korean high-level talks that took place on Tuesday, experts think

Trump is choosing his words more carefully.

(English) It doesn't look like President Trump changed

his mind on North Korea... but tactically he doesn't want to antagonize North Korea

this time, because South and North Korea, the talks between the two countries are in

progress.

In the interview, Trump said his past attitude toward Kim Jong-un was all part of a broader

strategy.

But the general opinion of pundits is that Trump plays it by ear and that his latest

comments were what he deemed strategically necessary in the current situation.

Pres. Moon congratulates completion of Terminal 2 of Incheon Airport - Duration: 2:19.

Let's start things off with a grand opening ceremony for the second passenger terminal

of the nation's main gateway.

President Moon Jae-in who was also in attendance... pledged to support the airport further to

become a world-class global hub.

Hwang Hojun has our top story.

It took nine years of construction work and over 4.6 billion dollars in investment.

In Friday's opening ceremony, President Moon praised the expansion of Korea's main gateway.

(KOREAN) "Congratulations on the opening of Incheon

Airport's second passenger terminal.

Today, I witnessed the vigorous spirit of Incheon Airport as it soars into the world."

( 2 . .)

The new terminal will play an important role in getting people to and from the PyeongChang

Winter Olympics in just a few weeks.

In view of that, the South Korean President attended the ceremony along with the minister

of transport and big-name Korean celebrities.

He emphasized that a country's airport is a measure of its national strength and level

of international exchange.

He praised it for making real the concept of a smart airport by implementing cutting-edge

IT technology, including artificial intelligence and automation,... making the airport much

more passenger-friendly.

President Moon also noted that with the new terminal, Incheon Airport can now accommodate

more than 72 million travelers a year; with just the first terminal it was 54 million.

However, he warned against complacency and called for the airport to reach beyong Northeast

Asia and become a global hub.

(KOREAN) "We now have to prepare for the era when we

will host 20 million foreign tourists.

And with our per capita national income soon to top 30 thousand dollars, more Koreans will

travel overseas.

We aim to become an open trade country, so creating a logistical hub is a national task."

( 2 . 3 , . .)

President Moon pledged to support Incheon Airport's expansion so that it can accommodate

about 100-million passengers a year by 2023.

And regarding the upcoming PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games, he urged the airport workers

to give their warmest welcomes to the visiting athletes and tourists and to give their full

attention to safety measures and anti-terrorism readiness.

The second passenger terminal is set to open to the public next Thursday.

'Adulkids' in Korea adopting adults' beauty practices - Duration: 2:21.

Kidult refers to adults who continue to maintain their love and interest in items that were

designed to appeal to a younger demographic.

A new, opposite term is on the rise in Korea.

'Adulkids.'

Chidren that wear make-up and adopt traditionally grown-up practices.

Park Hee-jun zooms in on this unique phenomenon.

Young girls applying make-up, getting their nails done, and enjoying a foot spa.

These are the scenes that are becoming increasingly common in Korea.

Referred to as the 'adulkids' trend,... young children are imitating adults by adopting

their beauty and lifestyle practices.

(standup) ed: Mark "The cosmetics sector best reflects this

growing trend.

Here, at a chain cosmetics store in Gangnam,... there's even a separate corner just for

children's make-up.

From skincare products to color make-up products,... the store offers a wide range of choices for

younger customers."

To suit children's tastes, some cosmetics products are designed to resemble popular

characters.

And of course, they're made of ingredients that do not pose any harm to infants.

According to local e-commerce platform SK Planet,... sales of children's cosmetics

on its website increased 29 percent on-year in 2017.

Lipstick sales shot up nearly 550 percent, nail polish 233 percent, and make-up boxes

101 percent.

(Korean) "I like my daughter trying on make-up because

it's nice to see her enjoying it and recognizing how beautiful she can be."

The 'adulkids' trend is on the rise partly due to parents wanting to share their experiences

with their children.

This department store has allocated a whole floor for children and their parents to enjoy

a variety of activities.

Not only is there a kids' playground,... but there's also a spa corner where little children

can get manicures and a foot spa.

(Korean) "We prepared this floor to focus on the trend

of families shopping not only to buy products, but to share experiences.

We plan to expand areas like our cosmetics corner for these families."

While there are concerns that certain beauty products could be harmful to children, and

that placing too much emphasis on appearance could negatively affect their cognitive development,...

the 'adulkids' trend will continue to expand at a rapid pace.

And this trend is likely to extend to fashion, lifestyle, and other categories.

Cold snap causing rise in hypothermia, frostbite - Duration: 1:59.

Freezing weather conditions across Korea made more and more people fall prey to cold-related

illnesses.

Thankfully though... temperatures are forecast to rise over the weekends.

Cha Sang-mi give tells us more.

Amid an extended cold snap, Korea is seeing a rising number of people going to the hospital

for emergencies caused by exposure to the cold.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, around 260 people have been diagnosed with

cold-related conditions like frostbite and hypothermia this winter through January 11th.

The figure is up 55 percent from the same period last year.

(KOREAN) - "There are two main kinds of cold-related

illnesses.

One is hypothermia and the other, frostbite.

80 percent of the people diagnosed had hypothermia.

And as of Thursday, we had recorded seven deaths."

Hypothermia occurs when body temperature drops below 35 degrees Celsius and does not return

to normal.

Those affected by hypothermia and frostbite have mostly been over the age of 65.

The recent extreme cold in Korea and other some other countries is said to be from the

North Pole.

(KOREAN) - "As the jet stream weakened, cold air was

able to escape from the Arctic and it's trapped now at lower latitudes."

Southern Korea has been the worst-hit by freezing temperatures and strong winds.

Some water pipes and sprinklers in Busan froze and burst.

Authorities especially called on the residents of Jeollanam-do Province and Jeju Island to

be careful since many streets and roads are still covered in ice.

In Gangwon-do Province, where dry weather advisories are in effect, the authorities

have called on residents to be careful with any potential source of fire.

(Stand-up) "Seoul's Hangang River is also frozen,...

and authorities are urging the public to avoid the risk of cold-related illnesses and conditions

by dressing up warmly and keeping hydrated.

Cha Sang-mi, Arirang News."

Abe rejects Seoul's position on 2015 'comfort women' deal... foreign ministers to meet in Vancouver - Duration: 2:19.

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe reiterated Tokyo's stance: Seoul's decision to denounce the controversial

2015 agreement on wartime sex slavery is unacceptable.

The focus now shifts to a potentially frosty meeting between the two country's foreign

ministers in Vancouver.

Kwon Jang-ho provides a glimpse of what's to come.

For the first time since South Korea's announcement of follow-up measures to the 2015 Seoul-Tokyo

agreement on Japan's wartime sex slavery issue earlier this week, Japanese Prime Minister

Shinzo Abe has made remarks... denouncing the decision.

(Japanese) "The 2015 Japan-South Korea agreement is a

promise between two nations.

Keeping this promise is an international and universal principle.

We cannot accept South Korea's unilateral demands for additional measures."

He also said Tokyo has sincerely carried out the deal thoroughly, and that Seoul needs

to do the same.

The South Korean government declared on Tuesday that the 2015 agreement was not a conclusive

resolution to the issue of Japan's wartime atrocity, and although Seoul decided it will

not seek to renegotiate the deal, it did call on Tokyo to offer a voluntary and sincere

apology to the surviving victims.

Japan has strongly maintained that the 2015 deal was* an official apology, and that the

issue has been settled by the landmark agreement.

The dispute is expected to carry on till next week, when the foreign ministers of both countries

will meet in Vancouver, Canada, for a special international summit on the situation with

North Korea.

Although a bilateral meeting has not been confirmed by either government, Tokyo's foreign

minister, Taro Kono, has been quoted saying that a meeting definitely will take place.

Seoul's foreign ministry said that a trilateral meeting among South Korea, the U.S. and Japan

is also being considered on the topic of North Korea and the latest inter-Korean talks.

A separate South Korea-U.S. meeting has been confirmed after Seoul's top diplomat Kang

Kyung-wha, spoke with her U.S. counterpart, Rex Tillerson on the phone on Friday.

The two are said to have discussed Tuesday's high-level talks between the two Koreas, the

first in two years.

Tillerson described the development as encouraging... while Kang thanked Washington for its efforts

in pursuing denuclearization on the Korean peninsula, and for playing a role in supporting

Tuesday's inter-Korean talks.

Kwon Jang-ho, Arirang News.
