Waching daily Jan 12 2018

hey, welcome to 12tone! as a music theorist, I spend a lot of time thinking about why people

like particular songs.

what is it about those compositions that makes them enjoyable?

what do people like hearing? it's a lot of work, and we've been trying to figure it out

for centuries, but wouldn't it be easier to just, like, ask? that was the idea behind

the People's Choice.

no, not the award show.

the album.

this was the work of Dave Soldier, Vitaly Komar, and Alexander Melamid.

Komar and Melamid are painters who, in 1995, began to experiment with creating paintings

based on public opinion polls.

they'd conduct surveys in different countries to find out what people liked most in paintings,

asking about things like people's favorite colors, favorite styles, and whether they

preferred people or landscapes.

once they had that data, they'd use it to create what they called the "Most Wanted Painting"

for that country, which contained all the things that people said they liked, making

it, in theory, the most popular painting possible in that country.

The United States, for instance, got an outdoor scene of a lake featuring George Washington,

some children, and a couple deer. as a control, they also created a Most Unwanted Painting,

which was designed to feature as many unpopular elements as it could which, for a lot of countries,

apparently means just a bunch of colored squares.

Soldier, on the other hand, is a neuroscientist and composer who joined forces with Komar

and Melamid in 1996 to expand their ideas to the world of music.

he put together a survey with questions like "what are your favorite instruments?", "what

tempo do you prefer?", and "what are you looking for when you listen to music?"

If you're curious, the entire survey is linked in the description.

it's fairly in-depth, and covers pretty much every compositional element you'd expect a

non-musician to have opinions about.

it doesn't ask about scales, chords, or anything like that, but it uses other questions about

emotions and styles to try to tease out those connections as well.

they surveyed around 500 people, and used that data to construct a model of the Most

Wanted Song and, unsurprisingly, it turns out it looked quite a bit like the popular

music of the time.

it consists of a moderately sized orchestra with 3 to 10 instruments, including guitar,

piano, and saxophone, with a medium tempo, moderate to loud volume, and lyrics about

love.

they decided to feature both male and female vocals, each singing in one of the two most

popular vocal styles, rock and R&B. as for the words, lyricist Nina Mankin described

it as what she would imagine a duet between Whitney Houston and Bruce Springsteen would've

sounded like.

using their statistical models, Komar, Melamid, and Soldier concluded that combining all the

popular elements from their survey, and I'm quoting here, "even to the point of sensory

overload and stylistic discohesion, will result in a musical work that will be unavoidably

and uncontrollably "liked" by 72 plus or minus 12% of listeners."

that is, assuming their survey represented the population at large and assuming that

there were no hidden dependencies between various preferences, a significant majority

of people would wind up liking any song that had those elements, regardless of its compositional

merit.

so how'd they do?

well, there's a link in the description and it's… ok. it's certainly not bad.

there's a couple weird parts, and the Bruce Springsteen impression feels pretty out of

place to me, but mostly it's just utterly inoffensive.

it sounds like, for lack of a better word, elevator music.

it's trying to please everyone, and it's not taking any risks in doing so, which means

that while it's probably not going to bother many people, it's also not likely to be anyone's

favorite song. and that's the point: it's a messy amalgamation of pop cliches, designed

more to reflect on the musical preferences of the era than to make any statement of its

own.

in short, it's not trying to be good.

it's just trying to be wanted.

but any good scientist will tell you that every study needs a control, so to prove that

their methods were valid, they also used it to create the Most Unwanted Song, a piece

of music combining everything that people said they didn't want.

the orchestra is much larger, featuring accordions and bagpipes, the two most unpopular instruments

in the survey, along with a banjo, a tuba, a flute, which, personally, I love the sound

of, and a synthesizer, which had the distinction of being the only instrument featured in both

the least and most popular lists.

apparently people in the 90s had very strong opinions about synthesizers.

the song is also a stylistic nightmare, featuring an operatic soprano rapping about cowboys

as well as a group of children singing about Christmas, Ramadan, and Walmart.

plus it features some outright atonal sections, where various unpleasant instruments just

play seemingly random noises on top of each other.

the whole thing is over 20 minutes long, with sudden, unprepared shifts in style, tempo,

and volume.

in fact, the transitions are so abrupt sometimes that I think it's a stretch to call the whole

thing one song, but either way, it's pretty clear that it's not going to be popular.

in fact, the artists concluded that, with the same statistical assumptions as earlier,

the song would be genuinely enjoyed by a total of less than 200 people worldwide.

if you want to find out if you're one of those 200, there's a link to this one in the description

too. of course, while Komar, Melamid, and Soldier

often discussed the project in terms of statistics, democracy, science, and philosophy, it's worth

recognizing that, at its heart, it's largely a work of satire.

whether it's a commentary on popular music, polling, democracy, or science in general,

the entire thing is clearly a bit tongue-in-cheek, and it's probably worth taking their claims

with a grain of salt.

it's not a joke, exactly, but it's also not quite serious either.

they're having fun and making art, but along the way they're also teaching us a little

bit more about how music works, and if nothing else, that's pretty cool.

Time travel [SMU 5] | السفر عبر الزمن - Duration: 7:11.

Hi and welcome to Draw My Science, more precisely in Science Me Up.

And this is how everybody died in Mars.

Who are you?

I'm Baha, who are you?

No, I'm Baha, who are you?

When did humans even go to Mars if you're saying they died there

Oh, I think you're still living back in 2018

Let me go back to where I came from.

By the way, be careful of that camerman.

Why? He's nice

Nice? You'll see what he's going to do to you at the end of the video.

Today we're going to talk about time travel

We did a vote on Instagram and asked you

If you want to travel through time, would you rather go to the future or back to the past

If you missed the vote, follow us on Instagram so you no longer miss these stuff

64% of you want to travel to the future,

and 36% want to travel back to the past

I want to tell those who voted for the future, congrats.

Because traveling to the future time is possible

It is quite simple, and it was done by a Russian astronaut named...

We'll talk about that later, and tell you about what he did and how he did it

If you want to travel to the future

All you have to do is to get into a rocket ship called DMS-62

In which you will have a small ride, for about 10 years

And then when you come back to Earth, you will find out that 51 years have passed.

Which means that the 10 years you've spent in DMS-32 is the equivalent of 51 years on Earth

In other words, if you were 20yo when you got into DMS-62

and your girlfriend was 20yo

You go for that ride and will come back 30 years old and your girlfriend would be 71 yo

This difference in time is called Time Dilation

about which Einstein talked and summarized it in this equation

It's not as complicated as it looks

t' is the time that will pass on Earth

t is the time that will pass on the rocket ship DMS-62

v is the speed of the rocket ship, c is the speed of light

The secret of this rocket ship DMS-62

Actually, for this to work, the rocket ship needs speed around

98% of the speed of light

which is really nothing.

98% of the speed of light means that the rocket ship needs to do about

293 796 KM/S only

Which is not that hard really...

Of course it is not easy at all,

because the fastest thing created by Humans is this guy

that goes 194 KM/S

Which can cross Tunisia from north to south in only 5 seconds

It is quite good that we created something that fast

but it is disappointing to know that

this speed only represents

0.064% of the speed of light

not even 0.1% !

If you really understand,

we're still a little bit far away, just a tiny bit far

The second thing is this curve

I call it the arrogant curve that kills hopes

why does it kill hopes?

because it simply it tells us that we can do nothing unless we surpass 75% of the light's speed

it was really hard to get that 0.064%

this curve tells us that even if we get to 50%, it won't be enough

nothing is going to happen that we can notice with our eyes

So seriously, let's forget about it for now

Einstein knew that this thing takes a lot of time, so he gave us another solution

He said that even you cannot creat something that fast,

there is another way.

Einstein tells us "If you can't reach that speed, then juste stay there."

what does that mean? It means that if we cannot create something with very high speed

we could stay beside something with high gravity

beside of a black hole for example

or a neutron star or whatever

and when you come back, it's the same case, you'll be 30yo and your girlfriend 90 or 150

The only problem about this thing, is that the nearest black hole to Earth is 2800 light year away from Earth

and with nowadays technology, it will take us at least

.....

I don't know really

A big number that I cannot count, and don't know how to count, it will not even fit in the computer's screen

But let's say that a miracle happens and we get to the black hole

There are other problems even if we get to it

because it will probably swallow you. We know that the black hole swallows everything

even photons

To summarize what I've been talking about,

If you want to travel to the future, you have two possibilities

either you have a very fast speed, or you stay beside something with a strong gravity

You're free to do whatever you want

In the beginning of the video we talked about this man

and we said that he is the first astronaut that has travelled to the future

this guy turned around the Earth for about 803 days 9 hours and 39 minutes

with the speed of 28000 KM/H

so he was able to travel 0.02 seconds to the future

Bless you.

It's true that I said it in a funny way but this guy proved to us

that our equations are real

and he proved to us once again that this guy is

one of the best humans on earth

if travelling to the future is possible but really hard to do

travelling to the past is even harder

We have two solutions to travel back to the past, or rather two problems

The first thing is to surpass the light's speed

I don't know how we could possibly get there if we didn't even reach 1% but..

we need to surpass the light's speed

but these are only words, because my friend Einstein said that nothing can surpass the light's speed

of course the thing he's talking about has mass, because there are things with no mass that can surpass the light's speed

Don't worry, I won't talk about it, it takes too much time

the second thing is the Wormhole

that are very very very complicated

but the easiest way to understand them is the

thing they used in Interstellar movie

which I recommend to you.

The Wormhole is like a portal

that takes you from a space time to another

In other words, from a time to another, for example

this paper is the space time and you want to go from here to there

the Wormhole wants to create a shortcut

so he deforms it this way

in order for you to move from point B to point A in about an hour

the Wormhole created a shortcut

and not only he enabled us to move fast from one point to the other

he also took us back to 70 years earlier

To be clear, the Wormhole is still theoretical, because it still has no proof in space

Scientists have created a Wormhole of a magnetic field in a laboratory

but still, it's abstract

For those of you who are interested, I'll leave the link in the description

Till now, we've talked about the problems of travelling back to the past

we're talked about the theoritical problems

now let us talk about logical problems

If we can travel back to the past, and suppose that you were able to to travel back in time

and killed your grandpa when he was young because he wasn't a good guy

since you killed your young grandpa, he didn't marry your grandma

and your mom wasn't born, so you too won't be born, do you didn't really exist

so how did you get back to the past to kill your grandpa in the first place?

It means that your grandpa didn't die, your mother was born and so are you, so you can travel back in time to kill him

This is known as the Grandfather Paradox

To conclude,

if travelling to the future is something really hard,

travelling to the past is impossible

Are you serious? Why did you even make this video then?

This is really messed up

Wow wow, wait, what's happening?

I told you the cameraman is not that nice.

2018's youngsters...

If you liked the video, like it for him

and share it, and follow him on Instagram

See you soon!

( BL ) 勢不可擋 Advance Bravery 12/23/2017 Shanghai Fan Meeting Part 3 ( Eng Sub by Kiyoshi Ryota ◕‿◕ ) - Duration: 42:51.

Hsu Feng AKA Yuan Zong is singing a song called " Finding You In Loving Memory " by Raymond Lam ( English subtitles by Kiyoshi Ryota ◕‿◕ )

in this life time, who is capable of being nicer to you than me?

you and I are almost together forever

the time and location of our encounter, with similarity to good drama

how do I even begin with these? wow ho

too much love with deep breath without room to breath

love is too beautiful yet lightly, unable to withstand

when love comes, it is like a bright shiny weather

once it is gone, the weather turns into horrific snow storm

if able to hate you, fully despise you

need to avoid ( you ) even when we met

though wanting to end this relationship, but still unable not to think about you

who can be as sad as I am

always afraid people mentioning the depressing past

no matter how hard I try with extending arms

there is going to be some distance within us

thank you

can you guys understand what I am singing?

Yes! we understand!

pretending ( to understand )?!

how to apologize when you are so far away

within proximity, you disappear by turning around

happiness may be too short just like meteor showers

within blinks of eye(s), seems like hallucination yet afraid of remembering

if able to hate you, fully despise you

need to avoid ( you ) even when we met

though wanting to end this relationship, but still unable not to think about you

who can be as sad as I am

always afraid people mentioning the depressing past

no matter how hard I try with extending arms

there is going to be some distance within us

seems like someone know how to sing this

if able to hate you, fully despise you

need to avoid ( you ) even when we met

though wanting to end this relationship, but still unable not to think about you

who can be as sad as I am

always afraid people mentioning the depressing past

no matter how hard I try with extending arms

there is going to be some distance within us

I wished I am the one who truly hated you

I will still search for you in my memory

thank you...thank you

Gong Jun AKA Hsia Yao is singing a song called " Cruel Moonlight " by Yoga Lin

let me love you and then dumped me

I just want initiation, not destiny

I will always think about you, forget how to breath

being lonely till the end, made me fallen into coma

if hating you means not to forget about you

I will not resist any facades of appearances

if not sad enough, then unable to fly around

but without dreams, why distance matters

I've been roving around

but I've never seen the ocean

the forgotten memory of what I think it is

actually laying on your hands

I've tried hard to kept the smiles on and acted strong

loneliness has built a wall

still unable to defeat the nights

the most soothing moonlight

if hating you means not to forget about you

I will not resist any facades of appearances

if not sad enough, then unable to fly around

but without dreams, why distance matters

I've been roving around

but I've never seen the ocean

the forgotten memory of what I think it is

actually laying on your hands

I've tried hard to kept the smiles on and acted strong

loneliness has built a wall

still unable to defeat the nights

the most soothing moonlight

if you know how to sing this song, why don't you sing with me?

yeah!!!

I've been roving around

but I've never seen the ocean

the forgotten memory of what I think it is

actually laying on your hands

I've tried hard to kept the smiles on and acted strong

loneliness has built a wall

still unable to defeat the nights

the most soothing moonlight

thank you

Minh En AKA Xuan Da Yu is singing a song called " Be A Little Brave " by Zhao Ke

my tears have not been found

will slowly disappear by hiding among people

getting used to it after acting strong for a while

quietly standing up with stepping toes

not knowing the distance

running toward the unknown tomorrow

don't be afraid of dangers per youth

memory will connect everything

be a little brave and wait for the starting point

some of the changes will happen instantly

want to prove the promise right next to you

be a little brave and let bravery runs its course

facing the quick changes in the world

time will reappear with indulgence in youth

the picture of bravery

be a little brave and wait for the starting point

some of the changes will happen instantly

want to prove the promise right next to you

be a little brave and let bravery runs its course

facing the quick changes in the world

time will reappear with indulgence in youth

the picture of bravery

this is not real fur, it is fake ( Xuan Da Yu is referring to the coat that he is wearing )

we refuse fur coats

Liang Xue Feng AKA Wang Zhi Shui is singing a song called " Light Seeker " by Yoyo Sham

if saying, you are the fireworks on the ocean

I am the bubbles stem from the waves

for a moment, your light has shine through me

if saying that you are the milky way far far away

making people want to cry for being so bright and shiny

I am chasing after the beauty of your eye(s)

always starring at the night sky during loneliness

I can follow behind you

just like the shadows chasing after light in dreams

I can wait at the road intersection

don't really care if you will ever come across

every time when I raised my head for you

even the tears felt free

some loves have fallen like sunshine

possession meant losing them all

if saying that you are the firefly in the summer night

children will sing for you

then I want to draw your hands

take a close look at me to see how minuscule I am

because of you so now I can dream

perhaps you will not stay because of me

then allow me to stay behind your back

I can follow behind you

just like the shadows chasing after light in dreams

I can wait at the road intersection

don't really care if you will ever come across

every time when I raised my head for you

even the tears felt free

some loves are like pouring rains

but still believing in rainbow

I can follow behind you

just like the shadows chasing after light in dreams

I can wait at the road intersection

don't really care if you will ever come across

every time when I raised my head for you

even the tears felt free

some loves are like pouring rains

but still believing in rainbow

Host : Jun Jun, why don't you answer it? ( fans would like to know who can sleep with Gong Jun AKA Hsia Yao )

Yuan Zong : you need to ask me first, ask me first, okay?

Host : now everyone knows that ONLY with Feng Ge's approval first in order to sleep with Jun Jun ( Hsia Yao )

Yuan Zong : ask me first ( before you can sleep with him)

Host : alright, we'll consider they pass this question. Big brother has stood out ( on behalf of Jun Jun )

Host : next question...next question we'll ask directly

Yuan Zong : this...what's going on? ( they are answering a question on why Hsia Yao put his entire body on Yuan Zong at the end of film production feast )

Host : what's going on? I want to know what's going on either

Xuan Da Yu : that scene, we are definitely not there...we are definitely not there

Yuan Zong : alright, that's enough

Xuan Da Yu : sorry...sorry

Yuan Zong : actually that scene is the last scene when we are at the end of film production

Yuan Zong : only Jun Jun and I were present

Yuan Zong : we were at the end of our film production

Yuan Zong : so why do you bother answering this question?

Yuan Zong : what actually happened?

Yuan Zong : actually I did not realize what happened till the end

Yuan Zong : that day, I actually drank a lot ( of alcohol ) and you drank a lot too ( referring to Hsia Yao )

Hsia Yao : actually the film ending feast was already done and everyone were eating there

Hsia Yao : the film ending feast took place in Tian Jian after we were done with the series

Hsia Yao : but Feng Ge ( Yuan Zong ) and I have other scenes at Yellow River so our little team just went there

Yuan Zong : yes, we have scenes at Yellow River

Hsia Yao : and then...actually, I did drank too much ( alcohol ) that day

Hsia Yao : it's like..I've drank so much to the point where I have no idea what's going on around me because ◕‿◕

fan girls are like OoooOOohhhh

Host : so what happened between both of you after waking up in the morning? ( sexually insinuated question

Hsia Yao : how do I say this? After spending a month..no..nearly 2 months together in the film, we have developed very closed relationship

Hsia Yao : feeling the intimacy of close work partnership

Hsia Yao : it is...sometimes...errr...

Hsia Yao : it's how he perceived other's deficiencies or how I perceive other's negative traits

Hsia Yao : both of us will raise our opinions toward them

Hsia Yao : so let others improve to the point of perfection

Hsia Yao : so it's like....in the past couple months, it has been really exhausting

Hsia Yao : actually it is really exhausting and tiring

Hsia Yao : from either the perspective of time or the amount of filming

Hsia Yao : everyone has been really exhausting including Feng Ge and I and everyone else

Hsia Yao : everyone of us encourages each other

Hsia Yao : especially the time of filming took place in the summer yet the scenes are actually in the winter...during the duration of filming in Tian Jin

Yuan Zong : just focus on important point and say it

Host : I was about to say...saying all these and no important points were mentioned

Yuan Zong : the whole point is....why did you hug me so close to you and put your entire body on me?!! ◕‿◕

Hsia Yao : the whole point is...err.. we have very closed relationship

Host : so after having excessive alcohol, the feelings became really close to the point where ( you hugged him really close to you *_* )

Hsia Yao : yeah yeah yeah right...that's what happened..with all the speculation

( the feast at the end of film production with Hsia Yao put his entire body on Yuan Zong and refused to let go...and Yuan Zong is pampering him ◕‿◕ )

Host : what is the first sentence that Hsia Yao said to Yuan Zong explaining his true feelings toward him?

Host : what's the first sentence? don't worry about the part explaining the true feelings..I added that part...what is it?

Host : what did he said?

Xuan Da Yu : He's Mine!!!

Yuan Zong : why are you raising your hands for?

Host : what did he said ( to Yuan Zong ) ?

( this person is so tall ?! )

( all the fan girls are yelling " He's Mine!!! He's Mine!!! " )

Host : right over here

Wang Zhi Shui : I like you!

Xuan Da Yu : the first sentence?!

Host : that is way too direct..what is it?

Yuan Zong : He's Mine!! ◕‿◕

Host : no, not when he is revealing his true feelings toward you

Host : what's the first sentence that Hsia Yao said to Yuan Zong when they first met? the first sentence he said to Yuan Zong?

Host : the first time they met...what did Hsia Yao said to Yuan Zong? is what? is what? is what?

Xuan Da Yu : just waving and greeted with hello

Host : is what? is what? here

Hsia Yao : let me say it...He's Mine!!! ◕‿◕

Hsia Yao : huh? wrong?!

Host : wrong! you need to fold in half

Host : here, what is it? what is it?

Hsia Yao : need to fold in half?

Host : you can fold it later...fold it later

Host : what is it?

Xuan Da Yu : Hi...

Host : earlier someone said it...this question is too hard

Host : be quiet..be quiet

Host : the first sentence that he said ( to Yuan Zong ) is " bro, what's going on? "

Host : here...so all 3 teams need to fold in half

Yuan Zong : fold in half

Host : but in which scene has the special focus?

Yin Fei: I know....at the scene when they got into fights

Yuan Zong : in my gym room

Host : at the gym room, that is correct!

Host : here, our other two teams need to fold in half

Yuan Zong : fold in half

Yuan Zong : why do I feel that the way they fold is so special?

Host : how are they going to stand on top of that?

Yuan Zong : fold it this way

Host : you guys need to stand on top of that...hurry up and save time

Host : must stand on top of that newspaper

Host : here..now is the time when you need to stand on top of that with just one foot

Host : step on your toes...that does not count..you were standing outside

Host : your other foot is outside

Host : here, next question, if any team steps outside the newspaper will be eliminated

Host : next question, when did Xuan Da Yu study abroad?

Host : when?

Xuan Da Yu : he was already study abroad since the beginning

( I know...I know )

Xuan Da Yu : when he kidnapped ( Wang Zhi Shui ) after being released from jai

Host : when? think about it

( fan girls are yelling " after high school " )

Wang Zhi Shui : three years ago!

Host : in order to save time...when did he graduate?

( fan girls are yelling " high school...high school " )

Host : after graduated from high school

Xuan Da Yu : I know the answer...didn't I say that I study abroad since the beginning?

Host : fold in half

( the correct answer should be graduated from high school )

Host : here...fold in half...this team ( referring to Yuan Zong and Hsia Yao ) needs to fold in half too

( you guys did not answer the question correctly so you need to fold in half too )

Host ; okay..next question

Host : listen well..here...what do everyone called Yin Fei's in the show?

Xuan Da Yu + Wang Zhi Shui : Instructor Shi

Host: this does not count, everyone knows that

Yuan Zong : it's strange that he did not answer ( referring to the actor who played instructor Shi in the show )

Host : Yin Fei, what's going on with you? you don't even know your own name in this show? and let the other team answered the question on your behalf

Yn Fei : well...I was trying to let them call my name..well Jun Jun did not answer the question correctly either

Hsia Yao : I did answer the question correctly

Host : alright, next question is

Host : how many times did Wang Zhi Shui lied to Xuan Da Yu?

Xuan Da Yu + Wang Zhi Shui : three times!

Host : how many times?

Xuan Da Yu + Wang Zhi Shui : three times!

( four times?! twice? once?! )

Xuan Da Yu asked Wang Zhi Shui : how many times did you like to me? *_*

Host : what do you guys think?

Host : how many times? I'll count three, two and one and everyone will show how many times by hands

Host : three..two one

Yuan Zong : twice

Host : twice

Xuan Da Yu : normally con man will not lie to the same person twice

Host : the correct answer is twice

Host : alright, the last question will determine who wins so listen up

Host : what is instructor Shi's full name in the show?

Xuan Da Yu : Shi Tian Biao

Host : he is the fastest...he is the fastest

Host : Shi Tian Biao

Host : at last, why don't both of you fold one more time? ( referring to Yuan Zong and Hisa Yao's team )

Hsia Yao : seems like the way we fold this is not right

Host : can't fold it anymore...just leave it like this..leave it like this

Host : can't change it...can't change it

Host : you can hug him close to you

( fan girls are yelling : " hug together " " you guys need to hug each others " )

Host : here, I am going to count 10 seconds of time

Yuan Zong : use one foot...just one foot

Host : here, ten seconds

Host : finally, you guys' claps will determine which team has won

Host : ten, nine, eight, seven, six..six..what's after six..seven?

Host : getting tired? after six is seven..six..five..four..three...two..one...alright..we won't give them hard time anymore

Host : at the end..which team has won in this stage?

Host : without a doubt, Yin Fei's team has won this round again...without any difficulties

Xuan Da Yu : I don't know how to be pampered..I am a real man

Host : Xue Feng ( Wang Zhi Shui ), take a look at this sentence

Yuan Zong to Xuan Da Yu : why are you facing me for?

Yuan Zong : I can help you prepare for the upcoming script

( on the paper, it says " take baby fits and hit you on the chest " )

Host: alright? ok

Xuan Da Yu : I don't know how to ask to be pampered...why are you looking at me for?

Yuan Zong : do you want me to teach you?

Host : okay, you can start writing

Host : it's alright, you can face him directly

Xuan Da Yu : facing me directly?

Host : these words can be quite complicated, a bit difficult to write

Host : what is the first word?

( write it again )

Xuan Da Yu : the first word is " yes "

Host : that's wrong

Host : the second word

Host : this is an easy word

Xuan Da Yu : small?

Host : that's right

Wang Zhi Shui : I forgot the third word

Wang Zhi Shui : how do I write the third word?

Xuan Da Yu : he did not bring his brain here

Host : next word

Wang Zhi Shi : I forgot after seeing it

Host : the third word

Xuan Da Yu : " yes " and " small "

Host : the first word is wrong..the first word is wrong

Wang Zhi Shui : let me write it again

Host : think about what the word is... this word is a bit complicated

Host : what is that word?

Xuan Da Yu : " take "

Host : that's right..so the order of the words are " take " and " small "..what's next?

Host: you've already guessed. here...don't write it anymore

Host : what is it? what is it?

Xuan Da Yu : take small fits and hit you on the chest ( literal translation of hitting your chest with my baby fists

Host : I think you need to add some babyish sounds to those words

Host : this is the time...here..Xue Feng is waiting right here

Host : this should be a movement plus facial expressions

Yuan Zong : that's right.. without movement is not going to work

Xuan Da Yu : can I throw up after saying these? =)

Yuan Zong : hurry up and record this

Host : yes, hurry up and record this or else you'll miss out

Xuan Da Yu : don't record it...don't do it

Host : no one is going to record this, no one has any ( cell phones with them ) to record this

no one is allow to have cell phones here

Host : so none of you have your cell phones with you right?

Xuan Da Yu : my life is gonna change after I am saying these

Xuan Da Yu : I'm not going to be able to overcome this afterward

Host : you need to say it louder

Yuan Zong : use both hands...both hands

Xuan Da Yu : my baby fists are gonna hit your chest *_*

Host : that's not right, is that hitting?

Host : you gotta do it again

Yuan Zong : you need to ask what others want

Xuan Da Yu : I am gonna take my baby fists and hit you on your chest ◕‿◕

Host : good...good..we'll count this as a pass

Hsia Yao : then I am going to guess it

fan girls are saying : by feelings

Hsia Yao : what?

Hsia Yao : I can't feel it

Host : what is it? what did you write?

Hsia Yao : you?!

Yuan Zong : that's the first word and the second word is

Hsia Yao : write it again...write it again

Hsia Yao : also...also

Hsia Yao : no

Hsia Yao : write it again...write it again

Hsia Yao: what is that word?

Hsia Yao: you also did not...you also did not...you also did not

Hsia Yao : pamper

Yuan Zong : the next word is the same as the previous word

Host : Jun Jun knows the answer already?

Hsia Yao : how come you don't even pamper...pamper?

Host: what is it?

Yuan Zong : there are more words

Host : not done yet, there are still a couple words

Yuan Zong : this should be an easy word

Host: this should be an easy word...what is it?

Yuan Zong : what's next?

Host : be quiet...

Host : coming up next...we'll need to have Jun Jun say these words completely in a spoiled way with babyish tone of voice

Host: of course, if he is unable to act babyish enough, you guys don't need to clap and we won't consider him passing this stage

fan girls : sure!!!!

Host: here, Jun Jun

Hsia Yao : just don't need to look at me, alright?

look at each other with the revelation of true love

Host : here...here...here

Hsia Yao : how come you don't even pamper me? ◕‿◕

Host : does that count?

fan girls : no...it does not count

Host : oh no...you suppose to act coquettishly

Host : one more time

Yuan Zong : you need to be more coquettishly

Host : a bit more coquettishly

Yuan Zong : you can use your body language

fan girls : face to face...face to face

fan girls : harder!!!

Host: here, one more time

Yuan Zong: let me do it

Host: be quiet..start..start

Hsia Yao : how come you don't even pamper me? ◕‿◕

Host : alright, we'll consider this one a pass

Host: here...slowly

Host : you guys don't try to conceal your identities by your height

Host : think about it

Host: so who is going to start first?

Host : stay at the same spot

Host : here...first one

Host: actually touching nose is quite difficult because can't really feel anything

Host : stop squeezing his nose

Wang Zhi Shui : that's Feng Ge ( Yuan Zong )

Host : you can even guess that! so amazing

Yuan Zong : don't want to reveal the upcoming scripts...felt that he is a fortune teller

Host: it's like fortune telling by bones...okay next..who is this?

Wang Zhi Shui : that's Jun Jun ( Hsia Yao )

Yuan Zong : spent a lot of time on this one

Wang Zhi Shui : that's In Fei ( instructor Shi )

Yuan Zong : don't kiss it...can't kiss it

Wang Zhi Shui : Minh En?

Host : who is it? who is it? who is the last one?

Wang Zhi Shui : that's Minh En...Minh En

Host : we have one last one

Wang Zhi Shui : this is Minh En

Host : you can take the ( eye patch ) off

Yuan Zong : there are so many Minh En

Host : who is this?

Host : who is this?

Xuan Da Yu : the feeling of this...feels like pig's ear

Xuan Da Yu : this should be Feng Ge ( Yuan Zong )

Host: who is it?

Xuan Da Yu : Hsu Feng

Host : here, the next one

Host : raise your hands

Host: can't touch clothes

Host : move his hands

Host : who is this?

Xuan Da Yu : this? this should be Yin Fei ( instructor Shi

Host: okay next

Xuan Da Yu : this ear has ear hole so it should be Xue Feng ( Wang Zhi Shui )

Xuan Da Yu : let me tell you, I have never made a mistake on these because I've made careful observation

Xuan Da Yu : this one has an enormous ear

Xuan Da Yu : how come this one is on the opposite side

Xuan Da Yu : can I only touch the left ear?

Host : you can touch any of them..who is this?

Xuan Da Yu : this one has an enormous ear

Xuan Da Yu : earlier should be Xue Feng?

Xuan Da Yu : eh...this feels like Xue Feng's ear

Host : whose ear is this?

Xuan Da Yu : that's Xue Feng

Host: then who is that earlier?

Xuan Da Yu : earlier is...earlier is Yin Fei

Yuan Zong : alright, congratulation..just answer one correctly

Host : let him wear it himself

Host : careful...alright, we'll began now

Host : switch the position...switch the position...switch the position

Host : how are you going to touch it? the butts need to be raised?

Yuan Zong : come over here...come over here

Yuan Zong: eh? where is it? this one..

Host : which one is this? who is it?

Yuan Zong: this one is instructor Shi, right?

Host: who?

Yuan Zong : Yin Fei

Host: right? fan girls are yelling, right!

Host : here, second one

Yuan Zong : where is it?

Yuan Zong : this one is really flirtatious

Yuan Zong : you guys don't think I am cheating, right?

Yuan Zong : this one is really flirtatious....that's fine...next

Host : who is this one?

Yuan Zong : oh yeah, I did not say who's that yet

Yuan Zong : everyone knows who is the flirtatious one...big brother Minh En

Yuan Zong : sister Minh En

Yuan Zong : next one..next one

Yuan Zong : without surprise, it should be Xue Feng

Yuan Zong : without touching, I already knew

Yuan Zong : where is Xue Feng? come over here

Yuan Zong : no, I can't see

Yuan Zong : this one...this one sounds really familiar

Yuan Zong : actually I am doing this on purpose... this one is Jun Jun

Yuan Zong : Xue Feng, come over here and let me touch you just for the heck of it

Yuan Zong : Xue Feng, come over here and try it out

Host : next one..next one

Yuan Zong : Xue Feng

Host : so who is the first one

Yuan Zong : the first one is Yin Fei, the second one is Minh En

Yuan Zong : there is another one?! who?

Yuan Zong : everyone has a butt

Yuan Zong: oh there is another one..that's me

Yuan Zong : is it okay now? can I take it down?

Yuan Zong : another one? okay..here here

Yuan Zong : I am a professional in touching butts ◕‿◕

Xuan Da Yu : Feng Ge, stop grabbing!

Yuan Zong : this is still Jun Jun

Yuan Zong : why are you here twice?

Host : okay, now you can take eye patch off

Host : okay, tell him who is the one in the middle

( fan girls are yelling : the host! )

Yuan Zong : what?!

Host : who is this?

Hsia Yao : hey you guys...don't close your mouth..

Host : open it up then...who is it?

Hsia Yao : this...Minh En

Host: who is that?

Hsia Yao : it's Feng Ge

Host : one more

Hsia Yao : if it is one more, then it should be Yin Fei

Hsia Yao : I felt that he is kneeling

Host : who is it?

Hsia Yao : should be Yin Fei

Hsia Yao : right? or wrong?

Host : right......

Xuan Da Yu : you have wiped off my lipsticks

Hsia Yao : so I've made mistakes on everyone..oh but I got one right

Xuan Da Yu : you got Feng Ge right

Host : just got one right

Fogging Glasses While Biking How Do You Stop It? Commuting Bike Blogger - Duration: 6:35.

Oh my gosh this hill is steep!

Oh, up!

Up!

Up!

Up!

BikeBlogger here! It's cold!

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

My glasses are fogging up!

Probably can't hear me so well since I have my mouth covered.

So what do you do to prevent your glasses from fogging?

Well

Hey, maybe don't cover your mouth. I find covering your nose makes it even worse

But the best I find is if you're gonna use a balaclava, something that covers your face,

is to get a tight-fitting one, one that doesn't have openings

To allow your breath they escape up into your glasses

I am thinking maybe trying some ski goggles maybe some

cycling specific goggles

They even got ones that you can fit glasses underneath your goggles you know like eyeglasses

But for those of you

who like to ride with glasses or sunglasses or maybe you have prescriptions you know eyeglasses you gotta wear

Undeniably you're gonna have to deal with fogging, what do you do about it?

You could maybe try putting some

anti fog spray on them maybe, I've heard that could maybe work

You could maybe try using some toothpaste

Something with uh, I think there's some chemical in some toothpaste that might help

Try spitting on them

I've heard that's what swimmers do

Oh my gosh this hill is steep!

Oh up!

Up!

Up!

Up!

You could uh

Wow I just lost my momentum. Alright, you could

Maybe use a full face helmet, I mean

Obviously this has to be an issue

Motorcyclists have to deal with

Those who ride in the winter at least, but hey there's motorcyclists in Alaska

But uh

Motorcycle helmet that's got to be probably at least a couple pounds a lot of weight to have on your head

And you can get some with built-in radios I know though, and heated ones I think

That's getting kind of expensive, so yeah, what have you found works best for you?

I'm throwing some ideas out there, and all I'm saying, is that I just haven't found anything that really works. I

I just basically try to cover up as much of my face as I can but I still

Don't really cover up my nose or my mouth

Going back to goggles though. I have tried some snow goggles in the past. You know like for snowboarding

And they did not fog up right away, but as I got going

I don't know, my sweat or whatever

moisture got in there

And it started forming wasn't exactly fog

It's not closed, the road's not closed!

It was like a condensation or something that was forming inside so

I'm gonna try another pair that have more vents.

This road is horrible.

Horrible!

They need to fix this road.

It's like they go through here, and they fix all the pipes, but guess I'll fix the streets in the spring

So what else what else could you do

Like I said what seems to work for me is find a good snug balaclava.

Something that keeps your breath in but also is thin and

breathable

To let your air out or your breath out and away from your face

Otherwise suck it up

Otherwise, suck it up and

just let your nose and your mouth get cold, I guess.

I suppose in that sense

another solution

is to just

not wear glasses. You never wear glasses and they'll never fog.

So

Anyway, that pretty much does it for me. Let me know in the comment section below

What you do?

about fogged up glasses

See you next time

Doodles + Accents | BuJo, Planner, Lettering - Duration: 18:45.

Hey all you hand letterers and bullet Journalers out there! Today's tutorial is for you

because today we're going to focus on those little doodles and accents that

you can use to adorn your hand lettering projects and your planners now these

little doodles they go way beyond pretty sketches because you can use them to

create space and divide space within a project so let's get started

Hi guys I'm Shayda Campbell and on this channel I do art tutorials like bujo and hand

lettering so if that's your thing consider subscribing and I want to take

a sec to thank everyone who's chosen to support me on patreon you guys are

awesome and I appreciate it so much there's lots of arts available on my

patreon site for a two dollar monthly donation including this coffee shop

shelfies print and tons of other downloadable printable media that i

think you guys are gonna love so go check it out if you haven't already so

I'm starting today with my bullet journal which is filled with dot grid

paper and that just means that on the paper there is a grid of tiny dots and

it really helps me keep things aligned and then of course I'm using my artist

pens my Pigma Microns from Sakura and I'm just gonna jump right in and I'm

gonna start by creating a title from the doodles and accents and I've gone in

pencil here and I've used the grids to help or the dot grid to help me you know

put this rectangle right in the center of the page and I'm just casually

drawing a rectangle not worrying about getting it too straight I just think

that's such a waste of time I like to just make things as straight as they can

be by hand drawing it and then I'm hand drawing a secondary rectangle just

behind the first one and I'm just gonna fill that in with a bunch of tiny lines

and again these lines do not need to be all the exact same distance apart or

anything like that and then I've got this nice sort of punchy box that I can

put my title in and I've just written the title in pencil first and then I'm

going over it with my artists pen and once I've got that I'll grab the

smallest nib the 003 micron and I'm gonna go in and on the cursive font or

the cursive lettering I'll do a thickening of each downstroke to give

that faux caligraphy look. Okay let's jump right into our accent so the first one

is one that I use all the time and that's just a simple hand-drawn line can

be horizontal or vertical and then you're gonna draw a leaf at one end and

then little pairs of these oval or round leaves all along the length of that

hand-drawn line and that just gives this great botanical accent and another one

is just a hand-drawn line and I'll often double this up always pull the pen

towards your body and that helps to keep it steady so that you get a nice fairly

straight line here I've marked two spots in pencil and then I'm just going along

and adding dots so just mark where you want the length of this to continue to

and then you can just put little dots or X's and this is a great way for

underlining or just creating a division on the page and this works for just

about anything you just do little angled lines like I'm doing here and the key is

really just to mark off where do you need it to start and end and that'll

help you sort of keep it straight and of course a little hand-drawn arrow is

always nice for dividing up space so these are different things that I would

call like breaks and lines this is great for keeping things organized and

creating some division within a page next let's talk about banners and flags

and one that I'd go back to again and again because it's simple and easy is

just to draw a little flag coming off from the side of the page or the top or

bottom of the page so it doesn't need to have a starting point and it's very hand

drawn anytime I don't quite like the shape of something and I've done it in

pen I do a double line that is my big secret weapon the double line it helps

you to sort of reassess what you've done go over it and it still

looks like you meant to do that all right let's try another banner here this

one simple rectangle and then you just indent slightly there and then finish

off the end and it can be with a little flag or it could just be a straight end

next one is a little bit trickier you're going to start again with that

hand-drawn rectangle then drop down a little on the top and

draw two little lines going out from your rectangle then on the bottom you're

gonna come in and draw two small very small but angled lines and then you can

take those out as long as you want the back of the flag to be and match them on

the top there I think you can see where this is going and then again you can end

that flag however you like could be straight could be flag like with the

indented triangle and again don't worry about getting it perfect

a few little lines there for shading can really add some nice depth as well oh

and here's one that I love this is great if you sort of put a title off-center

and you're like what do I put over on the right or left of the page now doing

a little drop-down flag here that sort of hangs off a little hand-drawn pole

yeah see again I sort of missed there so I'm just gonna do my double line and

everything as well that's a nice one for adding in a little detail and of course

you can always just do a little hand-drawn box a single line or double

line and that will just help create space create a spot for another bit of

text or whatever it may be moving on we are gonna cover some flowers and plants

this is a subject I've gone over many times on the channel and I will link

some good videos about drawing succulents drawing flowers but we'll

cover a few bullet journally types here today

I always start for succulents with a little flower pot very simple rectangle

and then just draw the bottom of the pot there this is my favorite succulent he

has three sort of soft rounded triangles across the front and then two coming out

at the back so he has sort of these five fingers and just a few little dots give

him all the detail he needs to come to life as a cute little succulent let's

try another so rectangle to start the pot a little bit of shading there across

the bottom and then this little cactus is just made up of these two sort of

lumpy shapes that fit together and then you can just put some dots on him to

sort of give him that cactus detail and we'll do one more again pot starts with

the rectangle and then square across the bottom I see

I missed that corner so I just double lined it little line shading everything

looks good and for this this is my favorite cactus to draw he sort of gets

this spiky hair on top or crown on top and then draw a couple lines down the

middle of his bulbous shape and then put little X's going down each line and try

to keep those X's in line with each other as best you can and it'll give a

great little cactus look and how could I do a section on flowers and plants

without doing a Shayda classic a laurel and that is just these two

crossed lines here and I always thicken them at the bottom to give the look of a

stem and then start at the top with a little leaf and then again like we did

at the start pairs of leaves going down the length of the stem and you can get

slightly larger as you go down or you don't have to and these leaves could be

any shape I tend to go for sort of a pointy oval but you could do round you

could add some little flowers in there berries but those are great for

surrounding any title and just a stem with a couple leaves on it is always

great for dividing up a little space on a page and adding some visual interest

and you can be as detailed with that as you want just start with that loose

hand-drawn line and then you could make those leaves any shape so whatever suits

your style whatever suits the the style of the page that you're working on

another way to divide space and add some visual interest is to do little

groupings of flowers and these are sort of my funny little lumpy flowers they

seriously could be any shape and then just put that little X in the middle and

they always look like a flower and here's one flower that I do over and

over again I start with a lot of dots in the middle to represent the stamen and

then I do sort of these lumpy petals first the top and bottom then the side

ones and again here if I'm not quite happy with the shape of those petals

I'll do the double line I want to change something make one slightly larger

double line and that's how I get through drawing in pen and I'm gonna add some

small leaves there a line down the middle and then making one side of the

leaf a little darker is a nice detail when you're drawing in pen

and of course just a little stem with some small buds can be a nice way to

divide up space and of course you can put things either on a horizontal or

vertical access as you need them and flowers and leaves are such simple items

to draw and I think so many of us are so comfortable with them you could make a

nice little pattern by just doing flower leaf or what have you and that's another

great way to help divide up a page all right I think that's pretty much it for

flowers and leaves think groupings think patterns and just draw from what you

have around you next we're gonna do a section that I

call geometric stuff so this is very bullet journal-y I think these

geometric drawings I've seen a lot of them on Pinterest and I want to try to

sort of pass some of that along these ones I always start in pencil

strangely they're very simple and yet I find them a little bit tricky you have

to get them just right so we're gonna start with a diamond and you can see me

sketching it out here in pencil and sort of it's giving me a little trouble but

that's why you start in pencil sometimes and I'll talk you through it as I go

over it and pen so you start with a line down the middle across a high cross and

then you sort of make a kite shape around that then you're gonna add two

more sections to the bottom of the diamond there keep the line straight

across the section of the cross and then you're just gonna finish off that

diamond shape at the top and then you can add some little detail in those left

and right hand sections there and now let's try a simpler one so this one you

start with a triangle a nice wide upside-down triangle divide it into

three sections at the top bit of the diamond and then just add a couple

zigzag zigzag line across the top so that's a real simple diamond next I've

sketched out a paper crane this is a drawing I used in my January bujo

layout I'm starting it in pencil as I always do and I find if I start in

pencil it comes together as long as I'm looking at an image so if you're gonna

do a crane I suggest looking them up on Google Images and then just make sure

start in pencil make sure all the shapes that make up the crane are triangles and

you just want to work on just trying to get those lines nice and straight pull

the pen towards your body whenever possible to get a nice you know

perfectly imperfect straight line and try your best to get all the lines and

corners and points to line up and then you can add some simple line shading and

that will really make that crane drawing pop okay now we're gonna do a fox so you

can see me doing a quick sketch in pencil here and this is one that I found

online and I thought it'd be fun to do so you start with a v-shape and then add

two lines on the side of that V and then you sort of want a rounded area for the

head two little triangular ears and then the body is sort of this coffin shape

and you're just gonna put a point there line for the feet a line for the legs to

represent the legs this little triangular section represents the body

and then you can make the tail sort of any shape and you just want it off to

the side and you can add as much detail with your lines here as you want so it

could be very super geometric if you add a lot of lines or keep it quite simple

like I've done all right let's do one more paper airplane comes together

pretty easily you just start with a triangle and then you add that little

middle section so you break the triangle into a section of two and then draw that

line going down to give it some depth and then you just add that little bottom

bit and that's it that's your little paper airplane I think a whole line of

those would be very cute and then I'm trying my best to do the geometric heart

I've seen a few good ones on Pinterest but I don't think mine was overly

successful but I started with a heart shape I went around and sort of made it

into a more geometric heart and then I just divided it up with lots of lines

and points and all kinds of crazy stuff coming together in the middle but that's

that's basically how it came together started with a heart shape went around

and made that heart much more angular and then divided it up but I'm sure

surely you guys could do a better job dividing it up there okay so that's the

geometric stuff I think I could practice

those but I actually really really like where they're headed and there are a lot

of fun to put in your bujo and now that's what I wanted to show you guys

and I thought over here on the left hand page I'll just sort of show you some of

these ideas in practice so first of all I love doing corners and just some

simple lines on the corners there and then you could sort of add any motif

inside this corner area once you've drawn it off with lines or marked it off

with your lines and here I'm just adding a little leaf or botanical motif and

I've got a great corner for the edge of my page next we're gonna take the

diamond and make it into something useful not that a doodle isn't useful in

a journal as they do add so much decoration and help divide up space but

we're gonna turn this diamond into a sort of date stamp so again I missed the

line there but just doubled it up so that's the trick and pen if you miss

your point if you don't get things just so just double up your line so here I've

drawn the diamond but I've kept the bottom part blank and then I'm just

gonna put the date in there so that's just one way you might use one of these

doodles to your advantage here in the center of the page I'm going to employ a

technique that I often do and that is to do some hand-drawn lines and create a

box and then I'll add my title or my writing or whatever in the box and then

I'll do sort of a doodle around the edges of the box but I'll keep the

inside nice and plain and blank and minimal so I'm writing vacation ideas in

here and I'm gonna put a whole bunch of a sort of leaf motifs around the box but

I never let anything enter that nice white space so I might go in pencil and

then later on I'll erase that but all the pen stays on the outside and I'm

just sort of doing some different leafy doodles and trying to make this have

sort of a tropical fun vacation-y feel now this page layout this blank box with

the drawings around it I think this is a great sort of way to draw a title page

and I think if you haven't tried it before you'll find you're very

successful with it just that blank box gives this great minimal simple design

and then the drawings around it it's just fun and it always comes together

and looks really nice and I often do botanical drawings because that's just

me I love the way they look but you could use anything you could do fruit or

I did paper cranes for my January bujo so let's move on to our last doodle

and this one again is something that is nice to adorn a page to fill in some

space but it's also a great way to break up the space of a page and my idea here

is to do a sketch that sort of hangs down on to the page so you're gonna do

that hand-drawn line coming down and then you have something hanging there

and in this case I've done feathers but you could do light bulbs or paper cranes

there's all kinds of stuff you can do with this and it just creates a nice

vertical illustration so that's it that's it for my bujo accents and

doodles and these are also great for your hand lettering projects and I hope

this has given you a sort of foundation especially if you're getting into bujo

or we're sort of running dry on ideas I hope you'll find there's a lot

of inspiration here and a lot of doodles that you can take and really make into

your own and before I go I'll leave you with one last thing that I sort of

doodled out last weekend and this is a January layout it's sort of a whole

lifestyle layout I saw this on Pintrest and you just start with the month title

in the middle and you can do a little sketch around it and I did a snowflake

and then you've got all the different aspects of your life here and you can

make little lists for them so under career I have you know daily social so I

want to put stuff on Instagram and under self-care I have like daily affirmations

and journaling and this just sort of keeps you you know accountable through

the month under health I have like don't eat any candy which is just such a lost

cause and I have a bunch of Reese's peanut butter cups to thank for that but

this is just a really fun layout so I thought I would show you guys what I'm

working on this month thanks for watching today guys if you haven't

please hit that subscribe button hit the like button and leave me a comment I

really appreciate your interaction and if you haven't seen the video

description last week's giveaway winner is written there so check that out

$17,000 PC from 1990: IBM PS/2 Model 90 XP 486 - Duration: 8:07.

Greetings and welcome to an LGR thing! And this thing is the IBM Model 8590, or

the PS/2 Model 90 XP 486, which was IBM's first system built from the ground up

around the 486 CPU.

Announced in October of 1990 and costing anywhere from $12,500 on the low end to

$17,000, or more, fully equipped. Seriously. At the time of recording this, that is

the equivalent of paying $23,000 to $31,000 dollars

all for a computer running a 33 megahertz 486! And sure, all 486 PCs were

costly in 1990 but the model 90 from IBM here was at the very high end. For

example, for $57.99 you could buy a complete PC from Northgate with the same

33MHz 486 as the $17,000 PS/2... which didn't even come with a monitor by

the way. It was another $1000 for the IBM 8515 you see here. So what gives? What

kind of person was the Model 90 built for and why was it so ridiculously

expensive when competitors might cost a third of the price? Well let's take a look

at what it comes with and see if we can make some sense of it. And of course we

gotta go over some specs -- starting with the CPU, which was either a 25 or 33

megahertz 486 and it came in the SX or DX

varieties. And this one in particular has a 66MHz 486 DX2 from around 1993

installed. It also came with 4 megabytes of DRAM standard, up to a maximum of 64

megabytes. And my particular unit was configured with 32 megabytes, which is

still an insane amount for 1990. Integrated into the motherboard are a

PS/2 keyboard and mouse port, and yes this line of machines is why they are called

"PS/2" ports. As well as two serial ports, one parallel port, and one XGA video port.

XGA is the extended graphics array: a backwards compatible upgrade to VGA,

equipped with 512K of RAM and supporting up to 1024x768 resolution

at 16 colors. And of course mine has been upgraded, this one with a dedicated XGA-2

card complete with a full megabyte of memory, an upgrade that cost $1500. And it

allowed it to have the full resolution at 256 colors at once!

On the quite attractive front of the case there is an oddly standard three and a half

inch 1.44 meg floppy disk drive and a five and a quarter inch drive bay which

could be filled with either a floppy drive or this single speed CD-ROM.

Cutting edge stuff! And it added another $1,250 to the price. For peripherals, you

get the classic PS/2 mouse with its amusingly satisfying yet mushy buttons,

and the even more classic Model M keyboard which is just as wonderful to

use today as it was when it launched 33 years ago. A SCSI interface was

provided as well which controlled a 3.5 inch half-height hard

disk with 80, 160, or 320 megabyte capacities. Mine has once again been

upgraded to the 1 gig drive, which was indeed an option at the time. This one

obviously is a later drive but if it had been done in late 1990 it would have

been around $2500. Installed on the disk was IBM PC

DOS 5.0 as well as the optional Microsoft Windows 3.0! Of course it would

be quite appropriate to put OS/2 on here being that this is the PS/2 but I find 3

oddly charming so I like it this way. There were also four expansion slots

inside of the case, and nope that is not PCI or ISA you're seeing. This is one of

the PS/2s that used the 32-bit Micro Channel Architecture or "MCA."

Not only was MCA more expensive, of course, but it was also completely

proprietary to IBM. And that was very much intentional. With their earlier PCs,

IBM largely used off-the-shelf components like Intel processors and

Microsoft operating systems -- stuff that was available to anyone. So this meant

that manufacturers like Compaq could come along and clone the PC BIOS and its

internal bus architecture to make their own PCs for less money,

leading to IBM quickly losing its grip. And they weren't having it. So not only

did they release their own operating system, the aforementioned OS/2, but they

made a new proprietary 32-bit architecture that it could run on: Microchannel.

This is a super abbreviated version of the story of course, and the

entire "MCA versus ISA" battle is one that is well worth a dedicated video of its

own. But the gist of it is that MCA was a bid by IBM

try and take back control of the PC ecosystem by force in pretty much the

most heavy-handed, cynical, IBM way possible, which was to uninvite everyone

else from the 32-bit PC party unless you paid IBM for the pleasure. And not many

people did. Unfortunately that also means that MCA cards are tough to find,

especially for things like sound cards. So I stick to using external devices

like the OPL2LPT for Adlib support if I want anything beyond the PC speaker.

Another proprietary thing in here is that the MCA bus logic, CPU, and related

circuitry are installed in what IBM called the "processor complex." This was a

single board that could be upgraded or swapped out entirely as tech improved.

After all the Model 90 XP was also built with future-proofing in mind, with the "XP"

in the name standing for "expandable processor." Not only was it ready for the

upcoming 50MHz 486 but you could install a 256K RAM cache daughterboard

to the complex for *just* $2,000. The problem with all of this though is that

its high price simply wasn't justified by the performance compared to other

systems with similar specs. The model 90 XP and other PS/2 machines simply held

their own without really pushing well beyond the competition. Sure it would

have been mind-bogglingly quick for a home computer, but the 90 XP was never

meant for that. IBM sold machines like the PS/2 Model 30 in the PS/1 Color System

for home users, and those had much more reasonable specs and price tags to match.

But the Model 90? No. No, that instead was meant for professionals and businesses,

people that needed workstation performance for things like CAD work and

financial modeling. You know, nothing fun like Commander Keen, boring IBM stuff!

So keeping those particular uses in mind, as well as all of the ridiculous amounts of

cutting-edge tech in here, the price actually wasn't *that* exorbitant. It was

just this was expensive tech, and coming from IBM it was gonna cost even more.

Then, it could do so many different things for so many different types of

users. For example it could also act as a

capable server machine, which is even more apparent with the closely-related

Model 95 series. And you thought the 90 XP was expensive! This big beast is on

another level. But that'll have to wait for another day, and for now I hope you

enjoyed this look back at the PS/2 model 90 XP 486. If anything it cracks me up to

have a computer that cost nearly as much as three 1991 base model Honda Civics

and I'm just sitting here using it to play SkiFree. And if you enjoyed this

video on the IBM PS/2 Model 90 then perhaps you would like to see some of my

other PS/2-related videos -- or any number of other retro hardware and software and

tech things that I cover here on LGR. New videos every Monday and Friday and as

always, thank you very much for watching!

Why Does Vladimir Putin Walk So Weird? - Duration: 5:42.

While there is no single correct way to walk, most of us have a gait where we swing each

arm forward when its opposing leg moves forward; likewise, as with the length of the stride,

which is generally the same for both legs, the distance of the arm swing is usually about

the same for both the left and right arms.

While exactly why humans do this hasn't yet been definitively proven (with the most

popular theory being that, while not essential, it's mostly about improving balance and

decreasing angular momentum of the body), the fact remains that this is how the vast

majority of humans all over the world walk…

But not so with Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation.

For those who've never seen Putin's rather odd walk, as is more common, when Putin walks,

his left arm swings freely forward with his right leg stride.

However, when his left leg strides forward, his right arm barely moves at all, remaining

nearly still and close to his torso.

This has resulted in some idly speculating that maybe there is some neurological cause

for the gait, perhaps even a sign of Putin being in the early stages of Parkinson's

disease, as reduced arm swing is a potential early indicator (though generally with tremors

in the limb or other such additional indicators as well).

(Incidentally: The Man Who Parkinson's Disease is Named After Was Implicated in a Plot to

Assassinate King George III.)

Others have speculated Erb's palsy or even a minor stroke might be the underlying cause.

The problem with all of these hypotheses is that Putin not only has full use of his right

arm and hand for day to day activities like writing, eating, etc., but even likes to show

off his prodigious Judo skills, as well as strength in weightlifting.

In both cases, the right hand and arm seemingly show no sign of weakness, tremors, etc.

Combined with the fact that Putin's had this gait for many years without change, this

all seemingly rules out any of the aforementioned potential causes.

So what's going on?

Well, thankfully as Putin himself has never commented on it as far as we can find, a team

of doctors, led by movement disorder specialist Dr. Bastiaan Bloem, decided to look into the

matter, publishing their paper on the subject in the British Medical Journal in 2015.

In it, they came up with an intriguing and quite probable hypothesis as to why Putin

walks this way.

In their paper, titled "Gunslinger's gait": a new cause of unilaterally reduced arm swing,

They noted that Putin was once a long-time member of the Soviet Union security agency

known as the KGB (1975-1991).

(In fact, he eventually rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel within that organization

before leaving it during the brief August Coup attempt against President Mikhail Gorbachev.)

Showing off their research skills, the doctors dug up the book, KGB Alpha Team training manual,

which, if you go read through that manual, contains the following text (Chapter 2) concerning

the proper way to move:

…it is absolutely necessary to keep your weapon against the chest or in the right hand.

Moving forward should be done with one side, usually the left, turned somewhat in the direction

of movement.

You should crouch to stay concealed.

Lean the body forward slight and keep the knees bent.

While Putin forgoes crouching and the like when walking around in public, his gait otherwise

very much mimics the one recommended in the training manual, with presumably his right

hand staying mostly stationary at his side holding an imaginary gun or otherwise prepared

to draw such a non-existent weapon at need.

In other words, perhaps because it was so grilled into him in training, or simply because

he thinks it looks cool when he's walking with that so-called "gunslinger's gait,"

he seems to have chosen to keep the walk long after his KGB days ended.

Now, on its own this reference in the training manual doesn't definitively prove anything.

It's still just speculation by the doctors in question.

To give more credence to their hypothesis, the researchers presumed that if it was really

the KGB training that cause this peculiar walk, Putin wouldn't be the only one that

walked this way.

Thus, they examined the walks of other Russian military and/or former KGB officers, finding

several Russian officials today that also displayed the seemingly bizarre walk.

Most notable among this group are Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, former ministers of defense

Anatoly Serdyukov and Sergei Ivanov, and a military commander of high rank, Anatoly Sidorov.

Like Putin, Ivanov was a KGB official, and thus this seemingly supported the hypothesis

that strict adherence to KGB training led to Putin's now lifelong habit of walking

with one arm more or less fixed at his side and body ever so slightly turned.

In addition, although not KGB, Sidorov was a member of the Russian military and Serdyukov

had served at least one year in the Soviet Army where this particular type of movement

was similarly taught.

In all of these cases, these individual's walks aren't quite as extreme as Putin's

can sometimes be, but they definitely display the same basic pattern of movement.

The one that doesn't fit the mold, however, is Medvedev, who has no direct links to the

military or intelligence services, but still walks this way at times.

That said, in his case, he seems to have very actively been coached to mimic Putin's iconic

walk, expressions, and even speech patterns during the process of being groomed to potentially

follow Putin as President, which he subsequently did from 2008-2012.

Of course, without confirmation from Putin himself, nobody can really know why he walks

this way, but given the lack of any other signs of a neurological issue that might cause

such a gait, that the movement pattern is described well in the KGB training manual,

and that at least some other ex-KGB operatives also display a similar walk, this certainly

seems like the most compelling hypothesis anyone's come up with so far.

Free yourself from your filter bubbles | Joan Blades and John Gable - Duration: 9:19.

Joan Blades: Do you have politically diverse friends?

What do you talk about with them?

I'm a progressive; I live in a town full of progressives,

and 15 years ago, I didn't have any conservative friends.

Now I have a wonderful mix of friends,

and they include John.

John Gable: I am not a progressive.

I'm a Republican who grew up in a Republican family

in the conservative South,

and even worked in Republican politics, locally and at the national level.

But the last 24 years, I've been in technology

and living in a very progressive area.

So I have a lot of progressive friends,

including Joan.

JB: I was born in Berkeley, California,

a notoriously progressive college town.

And I live there now.

In 1998, six months into the Monica Lewinsky-Clinton impeachment scandal,

I helped cofound MoveOn.org with a one-sentence petition:

"Congress must immediately censure the president

and move on to pressing issues facing the nation."

Now, that was actually a very unifying petition in many ways.

You could love Clinton or hate Clinton

and agree that the best thing for the country was to move on.

As the leader of MoveOn, I saw the polarization just continue.

And I found myself wondering

why I saw things so differently

than many people in other parts of the country.

So in 2005, when I had an opportunity to get together with grassroots leaders

across the political divide,

I grabbed it.

And I became friends with a lot of people

I never had a chance to talk to before.

And that included leadership in the Christian Coalition,

often seen as on the right the way MoveOn is seen as on the left.

And this lead to me showing up on Capitol Hill

with one of the Christian Coalition leaders, my friend,

to lobby for net neutrality.

That was powerful.

We turned heads.

So this work was transformational for me.

And I found myself wondering:

How could vast numbers of people have the opportunity

to really connect with people that have very different views?

JG: I was born Oneida, Tennessee,

right across the state border from a small coal mining town,

Stearns, Kentucky.

And I lived there for the first few years of my life,

before moving to another small town, Frankfort, Kentucky.

Basically, I grew up in small-town America,

conservative at its heart.

Now, Stearns and Berkeley -- they're a little different.

(Laughter)

So in the '90s I moved out west to a progressive area

to work in technology --

worked at Microsoft, worked at Netscape.

I actually became the product manager lead for Netscape Navigator,

the first popular web browser.

Now in the early days of the internet,

we were just moved and inspired by a vision:

when we're connected to all these different people around the world

and all these different ideas,

we'll be able to make great decisions,

and we'll be able to appreciate each other

for the beautiful diversity that the whole world has to offer.

Now I also, 20 years ago, gave a speech

saying it might not work out that way,

that we might actually be trained to discriminate against each other

in new ways.

So what happened?

It's not like we just woke up one day and decided to hate each other more.

Here's what happened.

There's just too much noise -- too many people, too many ideas --

so we use technology to filter it out a little bit.

And what happens?

It lets in ideas I already agree with.

It lets in the popular ideas,

it lets in people just like me who think just like me.

That sounds kind of good, right?

Well, not necessarily,

because two very scary things happen

when we have such narrow worldviews.

First, we become more extreme in our beliefs.

Second, we become less tolerant of anybody who's different than we are.

Does this sound familiar?

Does this sound like modern America? The modern world?

Well, the good news is that technology is changing,

and it could change for the better.

And that's, in fact, why I started AllSides.com --

to create technologies and services to free us from these filter bubbles.

The very first thing we did was create technology that identifies bias,

so we could show different perspectives side by side

to free us from the filter bubbles of news media.

And then I met Joan.

JB: So I met John outside of Washington, DC,

with an idealistic group of cross-partisan bridge builders,

and we wanted to re-weave the fabric of our communities.

We believe that our differences can be a strength,

that our values can be complimentary

and that we have to overcome the fight

so that we can honor everyone's values

and not lose any of our own.

I went for this wonderful walk with John,

where I started learning about the work he was doing

to pierce the filter bubble.

It was powerful;

it was brilliant.

Living in separate narratives is not good.

We can't even have a conversation or do collaborative problem-solving

when we don't share the same facts.

JG: So one thing you take away from today

is if Joan Blades asks you to go on a walk,

go on that walk.

(Laughter)

It changed things. It really changed the way I was thinking about things.

To free ourselves from the filter bubbles,

we can't just think about information filter bubbles,

but also relationship and social filter bubbles.

You see, we human beings -- we're not nearly as smart as we think we are.

We don't generally make decisions intellectually.

We make them emotionally, intuitively,

and then we use our big old brains

to rationalize anything we want to rationalize.

We're not really like Vulcans like Mr. Spock,

we're more like bold cowboys like Captain Kirk,

or passionate idealists like Dr. McCoy.

OK, for those of y'all who prefer the new "Star Trek" crew,

here you go.

(Laughter)

JB: Don't forget the strong women!

JG: Come on, strong women. OK.

JB: All right.

John and I are both "Star Trek" fans.

What's not to love about a future with that kind of optimism?

JG: And having a good future in mind is a big deal -- very important.

And understanding what the problem is is very important.

But we have to do something.

So what do we do?

It's actually not that hard.

We have to add diversity to our lives --

not just information, but relationship diversity.

And by diversity, I mean big "D" diversity,

not just racial and gender, which are very important,

but also ...

diversity of age, like young and old;

rural and urban;

liberal and conservative;

in the US, Democrat and Republican.

Now, one of the great examples of somebody freeing themselves

from their filter bubbles

and getting a more diverse life

is, once again, next to me -- Joan.

JB: So the question is:

Who among you has had relationships lost or harmed

due to differences in politics, religion or whatever?

Raise your hands.

Yeah.

This year I have talked to so many people

that have experienced that kind of loss.

I've seen tears well up in people's eyes as they talk about family members

from whom they're estranged.

Living Room Conversations were designed

to begin to heal political and personal differences.

They're simple conversations

where two friends with different viewpoints each invite two friends

for structured conversation,

where everyone's agreed to some simple ground rules:

curiosity, listening, respect, taking turns --

everything we learned in kindergarten, right?

Really easy.

So by the time you're talking about the topic you've agreed to talk about,

you actually have the sense that,

"You know, I kind of like this person,"

and you listen to each other differently.

That's kind of a human condition;

we listen differently to people we care about.

And then there's reflection

and possibly next steps.

This is a deep listening practice;

it's never a debate.

And that's incredibly powerful.

These conversations in our own living rooms

with people who have different viewpoints

are an incredible adventure.

We rediscover that we can respect and even love people

that are different from us.

And it's powerful.

JG: So, what are you curious about?

JB: What's the conversation you yearn to have?

JG: Let's do this together.

Together.

JB: Yes.

(Laughter)

(Applause)

JB and JG: Thank you.
