Welcome to Ranger Reviews, a webseries where we look at episodes of the tv show, Power
Rangers and then discuss it!
Today, we're exploring Mighty Morphin Power Rangers the Movie!
We begin this film with a slow scroll of text where a random woman's voice is explaining
us the story of Power Rangers, except she says that there were six from the start.
Lies!
Smash to title.
We see an airplane flying, and inside, all of the Ranger teens are inside as well as
Bulk and Skull.
Aisha tells them to go ahead first, but obviously, the two are petrified.
Kim then reminds them to put on their parachute packs.
Damn it, Kim, we were almost rid of them.
Whatever, it's time for them all to scream random things while jumping out into the sky.
I don't think this is a thing that teenagers just do.
After a length free fall montage, they all hold hands like the nerds that they are before
they start to deploy their parachutes.
We find out that this has to do with the Angel Grove Jump-a-thon which is raising money for
the observatory.
Also, Ryan's Comet is just a few days away.
We meet some stupid kid who tells his dad that he'll never be as cool as these color
coded teens.
Speaking of which, the teens lands.
Well, everyone except for Tommy because he's the coolest.
Of course, they all land on the bullseye perfectly because these kids can't do anything without
showing off.
Turns out, this kid loves Tommy as much as those watching it are supposed to.
Then, they realize that Bulk and Skull aren't there, and Aisha makes a fat joke saying that
since Ernie is serving a free dessert with lunch, they probably landed on the roof.
Jesus, Aisha, you weren't even supposed to be in this movie.
Speaking of which, Bulk and Skull finally jump out of the plane, screaming.
Time for a sweet rollerblading montage!
These kids need to chill the hell out because they start doing flips and stuff for no reason
as they go by the Sydney monorail that's definitely in Angel Grove now.
Then they take a shortcut through a… construction site?
That's not exactly safe.
Bulk and Skull also land in the construction site, and when they're yelled at, they lie
and say that they're from the building inspection office, but the guy gets called away to look
at something, thankfully.
Apparently, the crew has uncovered a giant dog face.
They get a crane in there to take the cover off of the giant grate, and a giant claw holding
a purple egg rising from the mist inside the hole.
Some idiot then tries to touch the thing, getting zapped away onto to the ground.
Meanwhile, rollerblading!
But just kidding.
Their communicators beep, and this is when I realize they even have newer, cooler communicators!
They talk to Alpha who says that they need to come to the Command Center right away.
Time for high budget teleportation!
At the Command Center, there's a lot of lights and the production value has gone up
to tolerable for once.
Alpha tells the teens that a massive surge of evil energy is overloading their sensors.
Zordon then creepily shows up in his tube, explaining to them that the world is in danger
from a morphological being known as Ivan Ooze.
6000 years ago, he was on the verge of completing the the Echomorphicon Titans, which are twin
machines that would destroy the world.
Apparently, a group of six people like our Ranger teens lured him into a hyperlocked
chamber and sealed him away for good underground.
Now, it's been uncovered.
They need to make sure he doesn't escape because his cover is near the ectomorphicons.
Did I mention we're only 10 minutes into this damn film?!
At the construction site at night (which is nice to see because Power Rangers rarely shoots
at night), a guard is sleeping while the other walks by, shaking his head.
Suddenly, Rita, Zedd, Goldar, and….. some….
random pig named Mordant who we've never seen before, appear, talking about how they're
there for the egg.
Rita and Zedd are already arguing about it when the guards trying to talk about it, but
then Zedd zaps them unconscious.
Then, Zedd zaps the egg, which causes the fingers of the fist to unclench, opening it
to show a pool of purple goo.
Rita puts her finger in, mad that Zedd has wasted her time looking for this crap.
Then, the goo grows out of the egg, forming into our lead villain for this film, Ivan
Ooze!
He introduces himself to the others, and Zedd asks if he's ever heard of Zordon of Eltar,
to which Ivan reacts by just screaming and firing lightning from his fingers over it.
Zedd wants Ivan to destroy Zordon, and Ivan says he will to be make sure that it is so
that Zordon has never existed.
Then, Rita says "finally, a real man", which is hilarious because she obviously wants
to trade in the red skinned flute for one dripping in purple ooze.
The villains decide to teleport away, leaving Ivan behind to sniff, claiming that he smells
teenagers.
The six Ranger teens teleport in, landing on rocks.
They go to find the giant egg, and they do, and it's open.
Suddenly, they're stopped by the guard who was knocked out.
Kim asks if he's seen a morphological being lurking around here, and if it were anyone
else, this line would suck, but Amy Jo Johnson sells her dialogue.
The guard says "did it look something like this?", turning into Ivan Ooze.
Part of me wants Tommy to go "yeah, actually, do you know where we can find him?"
Ivan Ooze introduces himself to them, but Rocky tells him to shove off while Kimberly
calls him Mr. Raisinhead.
Tommy then says that they're the Power Rangers, and Ivan Ooze says that Zordon is still getting
kids to do his dirty work.
Well, meet his kids!
Welcome to the Oozemen before Ivan teleports out.
The Rangers decide it's time to jump shit, jumping down while Tommy shows off again.
They then spread out while they each fight the Ooze creatures in fight choreography that
I will always think is amazing.
Then, Billy punches one, getting purple ooze on him, saying "you ooze, you lose", which
is pretty famous.
Then, pretty much everyone starts backflipping into a corner.
All six are trapped.
It's morphin' time!
Time for a lackluster morphin' sequence!
Now, they're flipping around in their new latex suits and helmets and…..
The Oozemen are gone.
Rocky sees them running away, and they decide to follow.
At the Command Center, Zordon tells Alpha that Ivan is on his way to the Command Center.
Alpha says, don't worry, no one can get in here without a Power Coin, but then, purple
goo is seeping through the door.
Turns out, that's just something Ivan can do.
Now, he's in the place, and Alpha attempts to punch him, but Ivan then zaps him.
Zordon and him talk crap to one another a bit about everything that's happened, and
Ivan takes out a flute, and he plays it and uses it almost like a magic wand to zaps everything,
saying he's mad he missed the Brady Bunch reunion?
Am I supposed to be scared or laugh?
I'm confused.
In some giant ass warehouse, the six rangers walk around, looking for the Oozemen, but
nothing so far.
They need light so Aisha just turns on her helmet, I guess.
Rocky activates his Power Scope, looking for them, and he finally sees them, and this is
when we can barely notice that Adam has something on the side of his helmet that helps him hear
better, clearly.
The Rangers are ambushed by the Oozemen, getting truly manhandled on both sides.
Then, Tommy kicks one into a wall, exploding it into ooze.
Turns out, that's that a thing.
Aisha does it, too, and it's kind of disturbing seeing these dudes just explode into goo.
Rocky and Adam both kick one in the head, causing big eyeballs to pop out?
What is happening?
Also, Billy pulls out his…
Stega Stinger, which he uses to come back up to the Oozemen?
Also, Kim has the Pterodactyl Thunder Whip?
These weapons are pointless.
Then, Tommy just flies down, kicking an Oozeman over and over again before Aisha just sucks
it up.
Billy saves her, and the six all come together, landing a platform when Tommy pulls out Saba,
who flies around, allowing a big container to become free as it crushes the Oozemen Tor
style.
Then, suddenly, Saba disappears as do the Ranger suits.
They attempt to get in contact with Alpha, but nothing.
In a panic, they run away.
