U.S. President Donald Trump has suggested the truce village of Panmunjom as a possible
venue for his landmark summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in the coming weeks.
Kim Hyo-sun tells us more.
The truce village of Panmunjom,... where the leaders of the two Koreas renewed their commitment
to establish peace on the Korean Peninsula,... is being considered as a possible venue for
the U.S.-North Korea Summit scheduled for late May or early June.
After meeting with his Nigerian counterpart at the White House on Monday,...
President Trump said the inter-Korean border would be an excellent venue for the summit.
"We're looking at various countries including Singapore, and we are also talking about the
possibility of the DMZ - Peace House, Freedom House.
And there's something that I thought was intriguing...
There's something that I like about it, because you are there.
You're actually there, where if things work out, there's a great celebration to be had,
on the site, not in a third party country."
He also tweeted on Monday that the Peace House or the Freedom House on the inter-Korean border
could be a more representative, important and lasting site than a third party country.
Until late last week,... Trump had said potential summit locations had been whittled down to
two countries,... including Singapore.
But it looks like President Trump discussed the idea of holding the summit at Panmunjom
during his phone talks with South Korean President Moon Jae-in following last week's inter-Korean
summit.
After their conversation,... which Trump hailed as long and good,... he also added that things
are going well and the time and location of the meeting is being set.
If Panmunjom is finalized as the venue for the first-ever meeting between the sitting
leaders of the U.S. and North Korea,... the inter-Korean border, which has long been a
symbol of division would likely become a true symbol of peace.

Warm but dusty, showers from this afternoon _ 050118 - Duration: 2:13.
Good afternoon.
There's varied weather conditions across Korea on this first day of May, which is also Labor
Day in Korea and China.
Cloudy skies will feature all day with rain expected to fall on Jeju Island and along
the south coast from this afternoon, while the capital area will have to wait until tomorrow
to see some welcome showers.
Until the rain falls, we'll be covered by high levels of smog and fine dust,... the
capital area is likely to be dusty all day while the rest of the country will see the
air quality improving gradually.
Temperatures will remain warm.
Seoul, Daejeon and Chuncheon will all make it to 25 degrees Celsius, Gyeongju and Daegu
will climb to 24.
With that, let's take a look at the international weather for viewers around the world.
South Korea will see some welcome rain from this afternoon into tomorrow, and most parts
of North Korea will also see showers but with mild temperatures.
New Delhi on Monday recorded a high of 40 degrees Celsius, a notch above the season's
average, and another sizzling Tuesday is in store for India's capital.
Those in Wellington will need to grab your scarfs... chilly weather looms for much of
the week.
Heading to North America, it was the fourth coldest April on record in Chicago, but all
is forgiven as Monday was the warmest day of the year so far.
Expect more of the summer-like weather on Tuesday.
As for South America, most major cities will be under mainly sunny skies.
Taking you to Europe,... expect some morning showers if you are in Moscow.
Lastly to Africa, it's getting hotter by the day in Cairo... and temperatures will peak
on Friday.
That's the weather update for now.

President Moon' Labor Day message underscores protecting labor rights is not issue of ideology - Duration: 0:47.
In light of Labor Day, President Moon Jae-in sent out his May Day message this morning,...
pledging government efforts to build a "labor respecting society."
President Moon pointed out his administration has been fighting for labor rights since its
launch.
He said such efforts include raising the minimum wage, reducing the overall working hours,
and kickstarting three-way communication between labor, management, and the government.
However, he also said government efforts alone cannot resolve chronic problems such as the
low birthrate, high youth unemployment rate, and continuing economic polarization.
Calling for social dialogue, President Moon said protecting the dignity and value of laborers
is not and should not be an issue of ideology.

Bumpy road ahead for reopening of Mount Kumgang tours - Duration: 2:03.
Following last Friday's inter-Korean summit at Panmunjom,… expectations are high for
further cultural exchanges between the two nations.
But the restarting of tours to Mount Kumgang may be more difficult, as there are concerns
that such tours could violate UN sanctions.
Won Jung-hwan reports.
In the wake of Friday's landmark agreement between the leaders of the two Koreas, cross-border
cultural exchanges are expected to pick up speed.
But restarting cultural exchanges at Mount Kumgang, one of the best-known mountains in
North Korea,… is expected to be difficult as it's been almost ten years since tours
last operated.
Hyundai Asan, the main business operator of Mount Kumgang tours, has pointed out that
resources and manpower involved on the project has been greatly reduced during the 10 years
that operations have been suspended.
From 1998, South Korean tourists had been allowed to visit Mount Kumgang, and over 2
million South Korean's visited the mountains,… but in 2008, then-President Lee Myung-bak
shut down the tourism program after a 53-year-old South Korean tourist was killed, with North
Korea claiming she entered a restricted area.
Following the incident,...
Hyundai Asan, had to shut down operations of its resort, and cut its workforce by more
than 85-percent from 2008.
And there's also the issue of U.N. sanctions.
Some say restarting inter-Korean projects may not be easy as such projects by South
Korea could violate U.N. sanctions resolutions against North Korea, with the Mount Kumgang
tours being seen as a rare cash cow for North Korea.
Hyundai Asan has been making preparations for the reopening of Mount Kumgang even before
the inter-Korean summit last week,… but there's still a very bumpy road ahead before
tourism exchanges between the two nations can actually begin again.
